I’m not trying to attack you, but do you know that proshipper means someone who supports and romanticizes pedophilia, incest, and abuse? Your reblog on that post seems to read that you think antis just hate on people for having ships they don’t like. But it’s completely different than that. Just looking on the proshipper side of Tumblr and the internet and you can see people happily shipping children and adults and making nsfw content of such things.

i appreciate that you're not being outright hostile, but i have to say, that on its own put you above basically every anti i've interacted with.

i understand where antis are coming from, i really do. there are a lot of things on the internet that make me deeply uncomfortable, including the minor/adult ships that you mention. i don't want to anything to do with those kinds of ships and i would be happiest if i never saw them again. which is why i'm proship.

nine times out of ten, if i see that kind of ship brought up on my dash, it's because i was following an anti without realizing it, and they brought it up unprompted and untagged, to talk about how bad it is that they exist. they are the ones putting that kind of content in front of my face and making it harder to avoid.

the thing about people who ship those ships is that they're generally very aware that not everyone wants to see that kind of content, and so they tag it. they make sideblogs to talk about it. they don't go out of their way to shove it in people's faces. that means i, and everyone else who doesn't like it, can avoid it.

what antis want is for it to not exist at all. they want the tags to be purged and blocked, and for anyone who uses those tags to have their accounts deleted. and sure, that might get rid of some of it, but do you know what would happen to the rest? it would stop being tagged. people who don't want to see it wouldn't have the tools to avoid it. this isn't just a hypothetical, that's what's happened any time a fan space has tried to do that.

that's not even getting into the rabbit hole of what should be banned and what shouldn't. obviously any content that depicts real children or real life abuse shouldn't exist and shouldn't be allowed to be posted, but basically any platform that people use already enforces those policies, and there's not much of a slippery slope to go down there. if it involves real living breathing people being abused, it's bad. end of discussion.

but the same can't be said for fiction. ask ten antis for a specific list of all the content that should be banned, and you'll get ten different answers. what about kink? what about roleplay? what about horror and murder and anything that involves fictional characters being graphically tortured? what about people using art to process terrible things that have happened to them? what about art that uses dark themes as a horror element? if you just want to ban anything questionable to anyone, that's the line of thinking that gets any mention of lgbt existence banned. and again, this isn't just a hypothetical, this has happened before, and that's generally where it leads.

i know, from personal experience, that antis do, in fact, send harassment to people just for shipping things they don't like. i've gotten accused of absolutely vile shit for shipping two fictional characters who were both consenting adults. i've seen ship wars turn into moral battlegrounds, over ships that an average person wouldn't bat an eye at.

the thing about "romanticization" is a whole other can of worms. the anti logic goes like this: if someone sees something (even if it's very obviously fictional) in a positive light enough times, they will start thinking it's okay in real life, and go on to hurt real people. the problem with that is that it's just. blatantly untrue.

if it were true every horror movie fan would be a serial killer, every person that studies dark media would be an unhinged psychopath, and everyone who is into ddlg would be a pedophile. but they're not. they just aren't. people have directed movies just as fucked up as the darkest shit on ao3, and are still capable of being normal human beings who know right from wrong in real life.

even if someone is that impressionable, scrubbing away the existence of every piece of questionable content isn't going to solve their problem, because they're still going to be vulnerable to con men, scams, and cultists. the only thing that would actually materially help someone like that is developing their own morals and critical thinking.

children are also more impressionable, and there's a lot of content that's not suitable for them, but that doesn't mean that content shouldn't exist. it just means that they should stick to spaces designed for them (which most social media sites, tumblr included, are not) or, if they're old enough to be responsible for their experience online, they, or a trusted adult in their lives, should block and filter out things that they aren't comfortable with.

which is what everyone on the internet should be doing. it's what i do, and it's made the internet a much more pleasant place to be. and it's why i sometimes worry for antis mental health, especially teenagers, because they're being told it's right and moral to seek out content that makes them uncomfortable and to engage with the people making it. and that's just. really bad. it's not good for the creators that they're harassing obviously, but it's also really bad for them! it's not healthy to seek out things that make you feel bad, and it's a terrible internet safety lesson to teach minors that it's okay for them to seek out and engage with people making adult content.

individual harassment and crusading is never going to succeed at removing dark content from the internet. it just isn't. at best you might get a small percentage of people who create that content to stop sharing it, at worst you're just going to make people stop tagging it, and either way, you're exposing yourself to things that make you feel bad, when you don't have to.

if you want to materially change the type of content you see, you can. the block button is your friend, use it liberally. same with content filtering and tag blocking.

so first, you decided to play a game that is very much known for being a horror game about inc3st, demon summoning, murder, and cannibalism.

I get why you're scared to use main fandom tags for posting darker stuff but remember that antis are essentially a very loud hateful minority. Unfortunately % of them are higher in some fandoms, especially newer fandoms on places like tiktok.

I'm a content creator of relatively 'messed up' stuff (although in relatively old fandom) and thankfully hardly ever encounter those haters. Ofc it's bit on luck's side plus fandom being niche and uninteresting to teenagers but here are few tips that helped me throught the years:

- block antis on sight. No discussion, no debate - hard block. And not only that but scroll through anti tags, blogs, comments etc. scroll through notes and block anyone exhibiting anti typical behavior. Rake through their blogs and block those who reblog posts from antis. I know it's time consuming and can't be done overnight. I've been doing that for 2 years and 9/10 times when I see someone complaning about antis I'm happy to realize I have that anti blocked

- ommit using proship tag on posts that aren't about general fandom attitudes (meaning posts like how people should ship and let ship etc.). 90% of all hates I've attracted had been from social media posts using word proship. Truth is antis aren't too bright, they react to buzzwords like proship, age gap, anti anti etc. Plus are bullies that are seeking target via those tags. In case of just tagging art of darker ship with ship name and no proship tag you'd possibly have just antis from that fandom on your back, not all antis. Sadly proship label has been dragged through the mud over the years and people are known for jumping the gun. There are legit younger folks out there who think it's a synonym with a child molester or something. Unfortunately most antis fall into cognitive bias, hence trying to tell them their views on certain things are off-mark would fall on deaf ears

- when joining new fandom rake through tags and blogs for search of hateful individuals in that particular fandom. Block them and anyone with proship dni in bio that you can find

- never respond to hate where said hater can see. Talk about it with friends on DMs or somewhere you're sure antis can't see. They're like leaches, they feast on negative energy they create in fandoms. All they care about is winning an argument, no matter the cost. Responding and explaning yourself does sounds intuitive but in actually is counterproductive as it creates more drama which adds more fuel to the fire. Block anon who sent hate, block whoever leaves hateful reblogs or replies and act like that person doesn't even exist

- best remedy to a callout post or controversy is to ignore it and let it die out. Close anons and go private on social media for time being until dust settles down. Block the drama starter and all of those who interact with drama post. Don't post anything for few days if drama really gets out of hand. Haters are in for fast burning drama, source of drama being unresponsive won't be of interest to them. In a week or two they won't even remember what has happened, they'd move onto a new thing or target cuz capitalism consumption of internet stuff - nothing can hold their interest for too long

Hello! With all the discourse going on in the Kirby tag I'd like to clarify some things. I've seen a lot of arguing without actually saying what or why this is I think a lot of people are confused, I'm going to try to help.

What is "pro-shipping"?

Proshipping is the idea that disliking a ship does not mean you have to be against those who ship it. It's used as a way to say that everyone is entitled to their own ships and opinions and that's okay!

Hold on... why is that bad? Everyone seems to hate that.

While the premise is good, unfortunately "proship" is a term that has been adapted to excuse inappropriate and harmful content. For example, people who ship incest, pedophilia, abusive ships, and more have been using "proship" as a way of saying "Hey it's all fictional, I can do whatever I want!" This is not okay.

Wait! I support people's rights to ship whatever, but I definitely don't support that!

Then don't use the term proship. Do not be a proshipper.

But I want to use the term anyways! If it's used correctly enough we can reclaim the term.

No. The best way to deal with people who ship incest, pedophilia, etc, is to block, report (where appropriate), and ignore. If you believe people have the right to ship whatever they want but you do not support this harmful content, then you're just a decent person and you don't need a term for it. Save yourself the trouble and detach yourself from the term.

But my therapist/doctor/parent/friend said that it's okay...

We cannot expect every person to understand the nuanced meaning behind words and terms we invented in specific contexts. This person may be trying to help you, but they don't actually know how the word is used. That's not always their fault, especially if they learned it from someone who doesn't understand how it's in harmful spaces either.

This is your sign to move away from the term proship for good. If you misunderstood the meaning and you had good intentions, it's alright! You can move on! The internet is complicated and it's easy to get the wrong idea from something.

If you see a proshipper, block and move on! Stop harassing people, they do not need more exposure.

But from here on out, know that the proship term is used to excuse shipping incest, pedophilia, abuse, and more. It is not acceptable. We do not support proship in the Kirby community.

Not sure what I am in terms of it (pro/com, highly unlikely to be anti from what I've seen.. I'm too new to this kind of thing to make a label identity) but something I've been wondering in relation to "antis" for this is "do you like EVERY aspect of every fiction you watch? do you want to do it in real life or do you approve of it happening?" because I see so many people who go for whatever reason (likely because they were told it's the "right thing to do"?) who are filled with intense hatred towards pro shippers and they will like medias which have these illegal aspects and might post they like the characters and stuff. If the difference isn't "I find it gross so I'm against it" , what is then? If the murder in these is enjoyable to you, there's this "moral" being implemented into fiction and then what decides what is okay and what isn't if not disgust? And then why would it be okay for person who finds incest or whatever disgusting and thinks it shouldn't be allowed to exist and the person who thinks that about homosexuality? I'm NOT for either of those, obviously (the "shouldn't be allowed to exist" part specifically, I don't have anything against people's personal preferences on likes or dislikes). The only argument could be "but in real life" but it's NOT real life. And then if that argument is used for the murderer in fiction enjoyer, what's up with that? I'm not saying that "antis" approve of some actions if they don't think fiction is a big difference from real life. But I don't get the logic. And then the application of these beliefs if it is to be anti any "problematic" thing in fiction... are horror movies not allowed to exist anymore? artistic expression? and what's the limits for what is okay or not? is it wrong to draw it in your own room and nobody else sees it? what's the big difference between that and someone who shares it online in a specific place and tagged appropriately (which if I'm not mistaken is the pro shipper belief)? should anything that may be controversial be removed from the internet? and I see some "antis" hate what's going on with KOSA? This isn't a rhetorical or a "antis are so weird" thing. I genuinely don't get it. I'd ask publicly but I don't want people to be mean to me or harass me.. (or worse) and then if anyone thinks "yes its biased but i dont care and I hate it anyways" sort of thing, sure. but that isn't a genuine argument you can make against something. since no opinion is more important than another. and other person could say the opposite.

"Rules for thee but not for me" seems to be one of the biggest anti vibes.

Honestly, it's probably better off not digging yourself into the trenches and outwardly choosing a side to label yourself with. Proship is really just believing that harassment over fiction is wrong - but truth be told, that's pretty much the normal person mindset anyways.

Smacking on the label unfortunately just makes you a target. So only bother with labelling yourself if you're prepared to deal with the assholes.

Big Ol' Post About Proshipping, Problematic Shipping, And Antis

Being a proshipper and being a problematic shipper are in no way the same things. Antis, a message to y'all about how you guys need to chill, please. Proshippers? Thanks for being cool people.

Proship basically means "Ship and let ship". You're cool with people shipping whatever, and wait wait wait, here's the really cool part:

IT IS ALLOWED TO MAKE YOU UNCOMFORTABLE. You heard that right. You can see someone make a Madrigalcest post and it makes you feel weird as hell but you don't do anything about it. Being a proshipper just means that you are respectful of other peoples likes and interests and opinions.

Being a problematic shipper means that you, well, as the name implies, ship problematic things. This is normally what people think of when you say "Proshipper", but they are different things.

It's kinda best put in the way that saying goes;

"A square is always a rectangle, but a rectangle isn't always a square."

A problematic shipper is most always gonna turn out to be a proshipper, but not all proshippers are problematic shippers.

Antis. A message for you guys. I will say this respectfully, because I don't wanna argue and fight, please.

Y'all, you're too aggressive. Like, worse than politics aggressive. It makes a lot of us feel very uncomfortable and hurt for you to suicide bait us or insult us, because these are our opinions. Regardless of how we react, we are still probably gonna feel hurt by it.

DM the proshipper/problematic shipper and ask them politely to block you so that you cannot ever see their posts.

Block blogs you know are proship positive.

Make sure you don't follow and tags like "Proship" or "Proshipper"

As far as I'm aware, there is a feature on here where you can block certain tags. Use this feature, please. Some tags I would recommend starting off with are: Proship, Proshipper, Proship Positive, Incest, Incest tw, Pedophile, Pedophilic, Pedophile tw. Feel free to do things as well like blocking the names of specific ships you don't like.

Consider what you're sending/typing before you post it or send it.

Don't actively pursue proship blogs. Don't go out of your way just to be a shitty person to someone else.

I want to say this, antis, before you think I'm out to get you:

I AGREE. INCEST AND PEDOPHILIA AND THOSE THINGS ARE HORRIBLE. THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING IN REAL LIFE. IN. REAL. LIFE.

You can find them disgusting in media, too. That's your right as a human. That's fine.

And if you've ever been in a grooming situation or been raped by someone, I am so fucking sorry that happened to you. You have gone through horrible experiences that I can only imagine. But please, why would you actively pursue someone who shows those things? Those could bring back horrible memories. Trying to get rid of every problematic thing on the internet is impossible. LITERALLY. IMPOSSIBLE. Because for every post you report, there's 10 more of the same sort of thing.

But please. Let me say this: Even if you got rid of every problematic thing on the web, there's still the entire world, which is a hell of a lot more difficult to control than the internet. Blocking all of those problematic posts isn't going to stop the person from liking the problematic things. Getting rid of problematic media isn't going to stop someone from grooming a child or raping someone way younger than them. Problematic media spawned from problematic stuff in real life. You guys are attacking a branch, when the root is still thriving. And maybe if the root is killed, the branch will die. Or maybe it'll still exist. But I would think I'd rather live in a world where people ship problematic things in media than a world where people deal with those things in real life.

Proshippers, thank every single one of you for being cool people and respecting other's opinions. I don't know what else to say. Just, thanks, y'all.

I'm sorry you never heard of the tags. I understand "comship", but "shipcest" is common in all fandoms and it's well known, that's why I use it.
