Scarian is the classic <3 ive only written them once for a friend and it took me… months… got stuck on one scene and avoided it for ages (and then got into taurtis x grian but that’s another story)

Cub and Scar being brotherly and inseparable is soo <3333 everything to me. Have you read “closer to another shore”? Oh my god. Changed my life. And scar and Cub within that book… absolute peak. I have this whole scale AU for Scarian that I'll write one day. it's bound to be my hardst work yet (yeah including the historial research and mapping nightmare that is Dealing Despair), because Splinter is one of those fics you have to plan every single scene out to make it all come together in the end.

My goal with Splinter) whenever I get around to writing it, it is to have like a fraction of coolness Birrdie's as above, so below has?? It's still one of my favorite fics of all time and I strive to write an AU like that one day. Splinter isnt the same thing? it's like a past life kind of thing, but the part im trying to emulate from aasb is the "oh something is happening here...I am scared of it" vibe.

Obi-Wan, who was laying back in the grass, snorted, “This past month has never happened to me before. Usually I’d have maybe a week between missions.”

“A week? That’s it?” Cody tried to imagine that—only a week of downtime—but couldn’t. “How does your council let that happen? And your jaieh?”

“Qui-Gon is the reason we’re sent out so often. He’s one of the best negotiators in hostile political situations. He’d certainly prefer more downtime, mostly for my sake, but there’s no feasible way for that to happen in the current climate of the Republic. The Senate claims his skills are in too high of a demand.”

Cody tried to breath through the outrage on Obi-Wan’s behalf—and the other Jedi. “And if you’re injured?” It came out sharper than intended.

“Well of course if one of us is injured we have enough time to recover," Obi-Wan said, "But I’m not in the habit of calling time in the Halls of Healing ‘downtime.’”

Cody settled himself back against the tree. “Fair enough,” he said as he watched Obi-Wan for a minute. The Jedi had relaxed and closed his eyes. His auburn hair was spread out in a halo, with various twigs and greenery stuck from the hours they had spent sneaking through the bushes playing hide and seek with the Krayt clan initiates.

Obi-Wan looked over, “Cody?”

Cody had definitely been staring longer than generally considered appropriate. “Fuck the Senate,” Cody finally said, after another pause.

Obi-Wan’s face spasmed in the I’m trying to not smile because I don’t think it’s allowed way he often did, “I couldn't agree more, Cody.”

Y'know, thinking about how much of the fandom totally fails to recognize that half-truths and lies by omission are in fact still lying makes me think about the Crows. Because the thing is, nothing in DAV actually contradicts what we've seen previously? Or at least not in ways that can't be easily explained by the fact that it's been twenty years in-universe since Zevran described what his training under the lowest of the eight Talons as a no-name fledgling probably a decade before that was like and we're currently hanging out with higher-ranked Talons and their immediate family in the base of a known reformer and if we're playing a Crow we're playing one who's blatantly favoured by two Talons. I suspect a lot of people miss that "the Crows don't do anything particularly bad in front of Rook" doesn't mean "DAV made the Crows nothing but heroes and freedom fighters and removed all the bad things they do". Like they kind of are freedom fighters at the moment what with how they're fighting to free Treviso from occupation (because protecting Antiva and by extension trying to remove the occupying army and at least making sure they can't do things like y'know gas the city is in fact part of their job and yes I do need to point that out every time the matter comes up because people taking Ivenci's claims at face value makes me despair for the state of critical thinking in this fandom), that's a job they are doing and it does make them look better regardless of why they're doing it, but I think maybe Bioware expected us to grasp that the Crows currently having the more or less noble goal of removing an occupying army, being polite to the outsiders they're working with—even if you're playing de Riva and have Lucanis in your party there's gonna be a non-Crow present—and keeping the messiness behind closed doors because it isn't the Veilguard's business doesn't mean they're suddenly saints. And in terms of the Crows not sharing the exact details of the bad things they're doing... if you're going to complain about Viago, Teia and Lucanis not talking about the Crows' darkest aspects in front of outsiders you'd better get just as pissy about Davrin, Antoine and Evka casually telling Rook the sort of Warden secrets Duncan killed to keep in DAO and the latter two allowing people to go through the Joining to save them from blight without forcing them to become Wardens, because those are the exact same level of retcon (by which to be clear I mean not a retcon at all because things change and individuals make different choices).

I have rarely felt so bad about watching/enjoying a show as I do about watching/enjoying Hawaii Five-O???

I'm trying to tell myself it's okay because the fact that I have all these issues with it clearly means that I'm engaging critically with the media I've been presented but.... well, most of the time I would drop shit that sucked this hard. Also.............. I'm pretty sure it's going to cause me to develop an eye twitch.

The racism is nooooon-stop (especially towards Arabs, like, if my brother-in-law caught me watching this, I would be both embarrassed and ashamed... there are three times - so far - that we get to see Muslim/Arab men not be the villains and each time is so wrapped up in white savior narratives that it's entirely moot), the sexism (Danny listing how great his team is and then just goes: and Kono's a fox I had a crush on, that's not a personality trait, that's not even an action she performed, that is literally just what she looks like which SHOULD BE the least important thing about any human you know??? let alone someone you've worked with for seven years. She is also made to consistently be around men who are disgusting and creepy with her - could be anyone's job, somehow is Kono's - and then the show eventually tries to redeem these men by giving them more complex backstories than Kono gets to have... if not for her mother/surfing, her only backstory is her relationship [*coughs*what Max praises her for when he leaves.... also not a personality trait*coughs*], NO BUT THE SEXISM (there's a group of girls locked in the cargo area of a truck and Steve is fighting their (1) captor and he knocks his gun away, has him completely distracted, and you don't think any of those girls might.... help? Join in? Want to shoot this fucking dude with the gun that has been dropped practically at their feet? Nope, nuh uh, they're just there to watch Steve be heroic, to be audience to his epic masculinity. EW. JUST EW.), these specific examples are all from season seven too so what should be improving is literally nose-diving into even deeper depths of misogyny. There's also classism in nearly every episode in some fashion and fatphobia almost every time Jerry or Kamekona or Flippa make an appearance. Plus, y'know, the police brutality that the show is built on.

I'm also pretty sure Peter Lenkov (based on the articles that have come out about his on set abuse, particularly in regards to Lucas Till) really has a chip on his shoulder about Scott Caan/Danny (who is short, blond, has attractive qualities that rely more on bone structure than ruggedness) and regularly tries to back him into traits he considers more 'feminine': wanting to stay out of danger/wait for back-up/you know... use brain rather than brawn, makes him more fashionable (including that scene about the lingerie that definitely could be read more than one way), making him be 'the nag,' etc. I just REALLY HOPE it bothered the fuck out of him that Scott Caan has more of the traditionally masculine qualities than his rock hard ode to masculinity that is Steve McGarrett/Alex O'Loughlin.
