I find fascinating that no one in the games calls Alucard by his birth name, not even his own father.
If you never read the manuals, you will never learn that his birth name is Adrian Fahrenheit Ţepeş, and has been ever since Dracula's Curse. He calls himself Alucard, everyone around him calls himself Alucard, and even Dracula accepts his son's new name. He greets him as such in SoTN and in Julius Mode in DoS, and the latter instance is even more striking, because by then he goes by Arikado - but to Dracula, he's still Alucard. Not Adrian.
And you'd think that he'd insist on calling his son by his birth name, right? As a way to control and demean him. "Oh, you chose that cute nickname for yourself? Charming. But you are still my Adrian, the boy I raised, and you can't escape from that." But no. Dracula has fully accepted that his son is so against him that he used his own name backwards: and I think that it's a sign that he has completely disowned him. He has no desire of pretty pleading him to join him by reminding him of their family ties: he will do so once Dracula has killed Lisa's last influence on the boy. It speaks of his utter coldness, and how estranged the two have become - after all, Alucard accuses him that he has completely lost his ability to love. (and, as a reminder, in the Japanese version of SoTN, Dracula doesn't even say farewell to Alucard before dying)
There is only one exception to this:
Tumblr media
This is a different writer so take this with a grain of salt, but since it's the only instance we see Dracula's thoughts during the 1476 battle, it's interesting. Perhaps he still hasn't learned that his son has changed names, but I can believe he hadn't accepted yet, hence why he's so emotionally distraught. By the time of SoTN, his heart has hardened enough that he no longer cares, and he calls his own treacherous son with the name he has chosen to indicate that the two are enemies.

Everyone adapting Dracula: so what do you think of our adaptation?
Me: I don’t love all the toxic sexist stuff you put in ngl.
Them: no no it’s fine. the book was written in the 1800s so....
Me: ok but was any of this stuff you added actually in the book?
Them: ... no
Me: Wasn’t the book about the 1800s version of a gnc power couple with their poly coded friend group fighting the embodiment of assault and toxic relationships?
Them: hm yeah idk. it was written in the 1800s so like. it’s gotta have strict gender roles and slut shaming! woot!
Me: ... yeah dude i think this is a you thing

One of the funniest things about Count Dracula is that, yes, he's a vampire with unfathomable supernatural power, and almost everyone who's aware of him fears him for it. But also, whenever given the chance, just about every human he's had direct interactions with show him absolutely no respect. He can't even use fear to force people to respect him. Even the Romanian villagers who cower at the mention of him know how to ward him off. Just to name the ways other characters have disrespected the Count so far:
The Romanian mother went all the way up to his castle to personally kick his ass for killing her child
His three roommates who defied his order to not eat his pet solicitor
Jonathan hitting him on the head with a shovel
The Firstmate of the Demeter trying to stab him
The zookeeper calling him a little creep
Renfield, his 'follower' who pracically worshiped him, threw hands the minute he tried to hurt Mina
Jonathan running at him with a kukiri knife
The sailors making fun of his stupid hat
Like, he's such a scary dude, but he's also so hateable that all the people around him can't help but insult/physically attack him. He's just so pathetic.

Started yesterday reading about how Jonathan Harker has decided his life is tied to his wife's - he's working so hard to save her, but if she beomes a vampire he will follow her and and they will both be undead.
Started today reading about how Ishmael's life is quite literally tied to Queequeg's - he's working to keep him above the water, but if he falls Ishmael will follow him and they will both die.

It seems to me that all Dracula Lives sequel novels and movies do not want to explore the consequences to the actual main characters and the world at large that such an ending would entail, but to have Dracula as the protagonist and their OCs (and when any of the book characters still are there, they are practically OCs). Personally I'm tired of him returning, bring on other vampires or undead or werewolves and ghouls if you want new monsters in the same universe. But it's time for the survivors to shine, not their tormentor, for once.
No, no, Dracula can still show up! He just has to be in a little dirt jar. With a cape.
But yeah, seriously, there's so much more fodder to work with than just "Somehow Dracula has returned :/." Countess Dolingen's there, the Pretty Girl in Piccadilly, the sailors of the Demeter, the Bloofer Lady-bitten kids (we don't know if all her victims were reported and/or if they lived), other supernatural bogeymen, and oh, hey, yeah, all the implications of Literal Actual Demons hanging around in the mountains giving out sorcery lessons...
But nooo let's just hit the rewind button on Dracula turning to dust, it's cool, it's fine, 11/10 very original

I'm dying. I'm dead. I'm dead and in heaven. Crispin Freeman slays absolute cunt as Dracula and I'm kicking my legs in the air 🥰
At 1:56 he even quotes his best line in CoD: "The powerful always juge the weak. The humans made their judgment of me. Thus, I sentenced them... to extinction"
and this is peak this is so fucking peak the cinematic parallels the cod love this is a gift to me and me in particular 💖

Some attempts at a design for Selena :3. The second image is inspired by the wedding in Haunted Castle, but I changed Simon’s outfit cause idk I just can’t picture him being comfortable in a suit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last two of these are way more headcanon-y lol. They’re under a cut mostly in case my headcanons and story ideas change d(^^ ). One of them was inspired by a Kikuo song I was listening to while drawing lol, the song “Let’s Go to Heaven”.
#castlevania#castlevania games#selena belmont#castlevania selena#castlevania ii#castlevania 2#castlevania simon’s quest#simon’s quest#castlevania ii: simon's quest#haunted castle#simon belmont#akumajou dracula#akumajo dracula#art post#my art#I remember seeing someone make a post somewhere about how it was weird that#a lot of the cut items from the first Castlevania were things like high heels and a love letter and stuff#I wonder if Simon’s wife/girlfriend was supposed to be a character at one point in it and she got cut for some reason#idk it’s interesting to me that she’s only ever appeared in like deliberately noncanon content ya know?#like Haunted Castle was even called not a Castlevania game by its own lead director#the two novels with Simon girlfriends in them were never intended to be canon just fun side stuff#especially the ones that were choose your own adventure books lol I love the art style in one of those#anyway I’ve been trying to think of ways to write her lately but its so easy to end up accidentally falling into annoying tropes alas 💀💀💀#especially ones the series has already used before oof#currently my idea so far is since Simon himself is kinda the chosen one hero guy trope in CV1#and ends up subverting that trope by genuinely failing a ton getting hated by the public and possibly dying at the end#maybe Selena might work as initially the damsel in distress and call to action trope and subverts that later????#I also have always thought she ends up the Mysterious Woman somehow hmmmm#it’s a hard headcanon to incorporate without just pulling a Dracula X chronicles and oh no she’s a vampire aaaaa but that’s been done 💀#I am also aware that not everything you write has to be 100% completely new and original and perfect but aaaaaaa

More I start to look at Lisa and Elisabetha, they have few difference in their design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First their the hair are blonde: Lisa's is an intense blonde, while Elisabetha's is pale blonde.
Second are eye's color: Lisa has light blue eyes and Elisabetha has (if we look closer) gray eyes.
Third is their hair type. At first we could see that they have wavy hair but...
Tumblr media
According to this chart, Lisa's is 2a and Elisabetha's is 2c
And lastly is thier skin tone. Both indeed have fair skin, but Elisabetha's is much paler then Lisa's (because Elisabetha was born from a noble family)

wait, let me do a tarot reading for you! your cards are... oh no. this looks real bad.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
YO WHATH EFUCK WHERE'D THESE COME FROM??
YOU TAROT ME??? IN MY HOUSE???
I don't know what these cards mean aside from Jojo stands... but yeah regardless of the meaning it looks foreboding. Jonathan, I would not go through that door... I mean, I would. But I would urge you not to.
From what very little I know, the Fool is the protagonist of Tarot. And that's all, folks. These are cool though.

The love people show for the pink-haired BDSM vampire lady is proof that Isaac could’ve gotten fans who love him with his og design. Or maybe the world is still too homophobic for that.
Literally enrages me. And I'm someone who discovered Isaac first on NFCV and went "ew he's ugly wtf" when I first saw how he looked in the games. It didn't take me too long to actually take a liking to the design and realize how much more compelling it was thant N!Isaac though :) (no one would be shitting on G!Isaac as much as they are now if there wasn't N!Isaac to compare him to. there would still be people, but less)
I mean at least Isaac's design have a sense. There is meaning behind his tattoos, his half-covered face, his clothes (and the lack thereof) all up to his sharp nails. N!Isaac has nothing, even his Devil Forgemaster UNIFORM is a downgrade and lose the sense it was supposed to have by not even having the Devil Forgemaster's crest on it to begin with. (I saw someone say that he looked "mysterious" because of his tattoos and no. No he doesn't. It's a few dots and two lines. It's the laziest tattoos, G!Isaac has the Devil Forgemaster crest embedded in his skin and his tattoos actually have forms and complexity you can try to interpret. what is there to interpret in N!Isaac's dots and lines?? MORSE CODE?? IT MEANS "MEIIIE" JUST SO YOU KNOW)
So it's already insulting that they changed his design because "bohoo he too slutty and BDSM-y he wouldn't fit" (even though you just had to give him clothes or smth), but it's even worse now that they literally took a HUMAN OLD LADY character (that could have been fun to have fight, to change from all the young-looking people) and turn her not only into a VAMPIRE, but a vampire with PINK HAIR, PINK EYES, AND A BDSM OUTFIT. And why? Because it's hot I guess. :) There's no other reason. I mean I'll give NFCV the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe they'll give an explanation in-universe as to why she is the way she is (just like it was explained in-universe what happened to Isaac to make him look and act the way he does. But no N!Isaac fans care about that since they couldn't keep shitting on G!Isaac otherwise). But yeah, I don't have much hope. NFCV was never smart enough to have characterization as deep and complex as the games could have. In the best way I could describe it... it's literally so american. It REEKS of america and it's culture and it's own view on things such as religion and gender and sex and politics. Friendly reminder that CV is originally a japanese franchise. So ofc the non-japanese creators had to force their own culture on it (consciously or not).
But honestly it looks borderline sexist to me. NFCV forced a male character to conform to the american standard of masculinity, and sexualized and slutiffied a female character that did not have any sexy trait before (since it wasn't the point of her character). And thus for no apparent reason. And people are literally applauding them... what the fuck.
