due to the nature of our relationship, i don't have an s/i (unless you count my fursona) but i'm more dating him IRL if that makes sense. so there's no story or s/i lore that i can share. but i can share my irl selfship backstory ^^

i was a self shipper way before i even knew that dmc is. i'd say i usually had around 10-15 or maybe 20 f/os at the same time with my main f/o switching every couple of weeks or months, but no one staying in that position for more than 4 months then i eventually met vergie and at first i thought i would hate dmc (which is funny bc it's my special interest now) but he still pretty much immediately became an f/o like any other. didn't think he would last very long and back then i would count the months he was my main f/o, even saying stuff like "he's not gonna make it far into 2023" and stuff well as you can tell he never left what makes this better is that back when i thought he was a regular f/o i got a tarot reading that said we are or might be soul mates. made me happy at the time but i didn't think it's gonna be this serious lol (but i'm happy abt it) i eventually removed all my other f/os from the list bc i just lost feelings, and i never gained a new f/o after him because since meeting vergil i've just never been able to catch feelings for any other characters there was a bunch of stuff that happened that led to me eventually accepting him as my irl boyfie which i'm not gonna talk about but what matters is that it happened :3 he makes me very happy and we love each other a lot 💙

Sure! So selfshipping is the action of shipping oneself with a fictional character! This usually involves some form of writing, art, or daydreaming, which either places the self shipper into the fictional reality or places their preferred character in actual reality. Like any form of art, it can be used as a coping mechanism. Its most common positive effects are improving self-esteem, comforting oneself, and decreasing loneliness. Some people may worry that self shippers could become isolated due to substituting human relationships with fiction, but in actuality, most self shippers are very active in the community of self shippers, which is populated with real people!

Now, some terms!

F/O stand for fictional other, and it refers to the character you self ship with. F/O's can be romantic, platonic, familial, etc! Most often they are romantic.

S/I stands for self insert, and it is a version of oneself that is written into the fictional media that your F/O is from

Headcanons and Imagines refer to things you imagine to happen in a fictional reality, even if they didn't happen in the original media.

A comfort character is any character that brings someone comfort, whether or not they self ship with them.

Yumejoshi is the Japanese name for female self shippers, translates to dreaming girl.

Yumedanshi is the same thing but for boys.

An antishipper is someone who fights against ships involving pedophilia, incest, or abuse.

A proshipper is someone who does not fight against ships involving pedophilia, incest, or abuse. These people also often ship those ships themselves.

Hiya! First off, I don't want to be a bother so please do not feel pressured to answer or give any advice if you aren't feeling it. As a warning, this involves feelings of insecurity and poor self image.

Picture the following scenario: You selfship with a character who doesn't have a canon love interest. However, another fan of that character ships either their self insert or oc with your f/o. You are more than fine with sharing them, but this person's oc is beautiful, and I mean incredibly more beautiful than both your irl self AND your self-insert. You start getting a small but persistent feeling that your f/o would canonically be way more likely to love this character than your s/i. You do not want to block this oc's creator. They are cool and you like them. But the feeling is still there.

What would you do in that situation? Apologies in advance if this makes you uncomfortable. I have no-one else to ask such a thing to. I hope you understand that the reason I'm asking this is because your blog makes me feel safe enough to do so. Even if you have no advice to give, I am thankful that you took the time to read this. I love your blog and the positivity it makes me feel. Keep being you. 💖

Anon, to be honest, I struggled trying to answer this because I do understand these feelings of not being good enough for an f/o or the idea of them choosing either a canon character, oc, or another self shipper. And I wish I had a good answer for this problem, but I don’t. The only thing I can say is that when it’s come to comparing yourself/self inserts with others, you have to remember to think about what makes you/self insert special and unique. And find things that makes you stand out and how a fictional character would find endearing about you. Because when it comes down to it, we are all exploring different dynamics and discovering ourselves through these ships. Self ships with the same characters are always gonna be different from yours and one of a kind, and that’s how you have to see it. Everyone’s self ships are catered to what they like and how that f/o would interact with them. One way that can help is seeing those who also ship with the same character as an AU (which is what I tend to do for sharing and canon ships most times). Like a multiverse sort of thing. And the good thing about having a f/o who doesn't have a canon love interest means they technically don’t have a type, so then you can play around with the idea of you being their’s!

A good exercise is to write down some positive traits and things about yourself/your self insert or oc and what would make someone fall for them. And honestly we tend to be harsh on ourselves when it comes to self love and what we look like compared to others sadly. But you will always have traits and features that will be attractive to someone, and with a character who doesn’t have a canon love interest, why not let them be the ones to find you attractive? Because at the end of the day these characters bring us comfort, and you need to allow it to comfort you, because then it will be miserable trying to enjoy these characters that are supposed to bring you joy by only worrying and overthinking about the negatives.

Again, I wish there was more I could say to help, but I’m still figuring out these feelings myself, so I hope this helps a little.

so domino is my fon.taine s/i <3 he's been one of my favorite s/is to work on. he was originally from kha.enri'ah, and was a member of the guard. his original name was ruere, and we will ignore that gen.shin now has a character named peru.ere. he worked under dain.sleif, who often aided in his training. as colleagues (and friends) they had a good amount of respect for each other. ruere, especially, looked up to dain.sleif a lot, and hoped to become an impressive fighter like him one day

after khae.nri'ah fell, they were both very much in shambles. while dains.leif eventually found his purpose in hunting down the abyss, ruere was much more lost. he ended up in fon.taine and secured another job with the gardes through a lot of lying and forgery. despite this, he did not enjoy his job all that much. like dain.sleif, he was angry and resentful about the gods destroying his kingdom. but he needed a job to give him a reason to wake up in the morning. even if that reason was one step in a plan to topple a god's kingdom out of spite. after all, the gods gave them time. why not use it?

when dain.sleif found him again, he was lord domino of font.aine. domino developed a network of informants and used it to secure a place at the arc.hon's inner circle with the iudex. he's. very ambitious 😭 there's something very interesting to me about him and dain.sleif meeting again after all that time, and they have this distinct memory impression from the days gone by that they only share with each other,, and the way they are such different people now. do these memories even matter anymore? after everything?

i imagine them meeting again at a low profile bar in fon.taine. it seemed like an accident, but really, it isn't. they're both too careful. they both know it. dainsleif heard rumors of fon.taine's new "king" and came to see if they were true. domino got reports of a strange man in exotic clothes moving around his kingdom and came to have it dealt with. dain.sleif asks domino for help to stop the abyss. he says no. and it is so painful to me when you look at it through dainrue lenses because it could be so easily read as dain.sleif just wanting his friend back. to have someone in his corner again,, especially since they would know how to protect each other,,,, like the last living piece of a past he misses so dearly just rejects him so so easily like 😭 😭 😭 😭 nooo,,,,,

like it HURTS. dain.sleif Knows ruere. NO ONE will know ruere like he will. no one will ever have met him and no one would ever recognize him like dain.sleif would. where lord domino is cold, dain.sleif sees and knows ruere is hurt but he can't do anything about it,,,,,,,, they're basically strangers now,,,,,,, ruere is dead to everyone but him

and domino is honestly just filled with so much guilt over what happened then. he never allowed himself time to process or express himself over it, and got so used to playing a part in fon.taine's constant masquerade that when he finally sees dain.sleif— literally his last living friend. the one single person in teyv.at that he cannot possibly hide from— he just loses his composure and lashes out. but he can't behave like this. he has an image to keep up. a plan to carry out. dain.sleif needed to leave

i have begun to entertain thoughts of domino going after him after the fon.taine arch.on quest. the original plan was to have him be captain of the gardes (which, he is though) after he and fur.ina step down, and i might stick to that. but dainrue is very fanon-ish to me hdsgkfshfsh i can easily see fanfic of domino leaving fon.taine and making out with dain.sleif in the crevice of a mountain 😭 😭

tldr if domino were a canon character i Know in my heart that dainrue would be popular i just know it. they would have at least a little pocket fandom of people obsessing over them and i would be right there with them

Like a lot of people in the Self Shipping community I've been Self Shipping sense I was VERY young, obviously before I knew what it was. I'd put my first conscious thought of Dating Fictional Character around 2nd grade probably? Summer after 1st, more specifically.

I found out about self shipping through a friend I had in 2017-2018 named Ven. I'd met them through the Little Nightmares OC fandom and was OBSESSED with their little Slime Person S/I and made an OC to ship with them (not knowing what an S/I vs OC was at the time)

They explained Self Shipping to me and encouraged me to pursue Fictional Crushes I had at the time that I wasn't confident in Self Shipping with for conflicting identity reasons, something I'm much more chill about now. (Ginko who I headcanoned as AroAce, Scorpia who is a canon Lesbian, etc)

I'm very thankful to them honestly! Even if they eventually decided they didn't want to talk to me anymore, I still think of them very fondly. I hope they're doing well.
