i need more after war levi x onyankopon fics tbh show me how that happened, hange asking onyankopon to look after levi after their death, levi hating the idea and eventually giving in, they becoming close friends or maybe even more, i NEED it
YEESSSSS they’re literally the definition of a rare pair. i feel like onyakopon has hange and erwin’s traits combined if that makes sense? he’s a charismatic charmer but also silly and goofy, and very smart. yk this man is a passionate lover…
levi is so jaded after the war and he won’t touch his past with a ten foot pole anymore but onyakopon doesn’t ask. doesn’t even reference it, unless levi mentions something about the good memories and onyakopon beams and asks all demure for the story. he’s the type to help levi out with simple tasks his disabilities make a lot harder without asking. and he’s so patient. i just. i just i just

*MY Opinions on dating the Obey Me! brother's*
Couldn't find someone to write it for me so I'm doing it my self(I've never written before, especially on Tumblr, but this idea is driving me insane so I'm putting it in words for my own sake)
Like i said this is mostly for my sake but if anyone can relate or has they're own thoughts on it pls tell me, would love to talk about this more. 😊
This is my opinion/reasons why i personally would never by romantically involved with any of the brothers
English is not my first language so excuse any/all Grammer mistakes cuz I'm also on mobile while writing this lmao
Warning: Slight NSFW (mostly talk), cursing, talk about hitting/hurting someone
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I still would be friends with them, i wouldn't treat them differently but when it comes to being romantically involved with them I would a hundred percent say no, regardless if I like them or have been with having sex with them for a while and feelings arose (so fwb or whatever).
So this is kinda my take on how would I be/explanation if the brothers sin got to much for me or if they were to ask me out and i said no and they were to ask me for the reason.
Lucifer - I (personally) would not date this man bc he's the embodiment of Pride itself and he refuses to be wrong(even if he is) and I'm way to stubborn so we'll clash a lot. Also something I've seen is Lucifer getting mad at mc for failing grades or whatever and MC apologizing like??? I'm sorry but who do you think you are?! Like I struggle with my memory and that frustrates me a lot so if i fail and this man starts to shit on me for it acting like he's a saint I'm gonna drag him out of anger. I'm talking about I'm gonna bring up every single thing he's done wrong, especially how he's the reason all he's brothers fell bc they followed him after he fell(this is mostly based on a other headcanon/theory i found a while back that really intrigued me). Like he'll have to kill me to shut me up bc I hate people criticizing others as if they're perfect or ignore their efforts to do good(like how they all bully mammon despite how they all use there sin as an excuse just like he does)
Mammon - so i wouldn't date him cuz he'll steal from me and if he does I'll brake his ankles without hesitation. Also while i do feel bad for this man being bullied despite greed being his literal sin if he were to steal from me(i collect a lot of stuff like Levi lol) i would make this man wish he died in the war or I would either make him get my item back, buy me a new one or pay back i spent. And honestly? If that were to happen, him stealing, i wouldn't really trust him anymore or at least have the same level of respect for him bc how can you be a thousand year old demon and not have a sure way to have money? Like? My man you're freaking greed! There are humans rn that are a thousand times more greedy than you'll ever be like wtf? How can you be outstaged like that? And he doesn't even really buy stuff(besides cars) he just spends it the minute he gets it but again how can you not know how to make money already?
Levi - sooo oof this is like so hard bc while Levi has almost the exact same taste in everything as me i wouldn't date him bc of his insecurities and hear me out. I know that makes me sound bad but i also have similar insecurities if not the same but i don't use them the same way i feel Levi does? Like i genuinely feel he uses them as a guilt trip bc he wants you and only you and doesn't want to share? Idk if that makes sense but i personally cannot be with someone that needs constant reassurance everytime you even breath near another person and i have my own issues to deal with so i can't be with him
Asmodeus - so here's the reason i won't date him and i stand by it a 100%. This man will cheat on you literally all the time and also he will make you insecure. I'm sorry but i refuse to believe that a single human can keep the avatar of Lust satisfied like that makes no sense to me? The minute y'all finish fucking he's gonna go out and get with some succubus bc he's still horny and ik for a fact he'll say it means nothing bc he loves you and you should understand bc of his sin. Now onto the insecurities, humans have a lot things that causes wrinkles or blemishes hell even ageing a year can change you a lot so i feel like Asmo would point that out A LOT as small comments like "mc try this new cream for your face" or whatever like at first it might seem sweet but it will bring you down.
Satan - okay so I'm actually very 50/50 with this man bc i feel like he'll be a good partner and he's the only one that actually tries to be in control of his sin but that's not always the case. Here's the reason i won't date him, i feel like it'll be a lot of like walking on eggshells with him bc from what I seen it's the small things that make him angry and i wouldn't want to be with a partner that might possibly hurt me for something i couldn't control you know?
Beel - again another character I'm very 50/50 with bc i genuinely see no issue with Beel or his sin. He does seem like a good partner that cares for them and his loved ones. The only issue i see is slightly similar reasons to Satans, that i might be in danger so it's like a gamble with them. Bc Beel goes full demon mode if he's to hungry or you eat his food(even though he's always eating your food), so that's dangerous bc he can hurt you/eat you.
Belphie - so I wouldn't date him for two reasons. One i truly believe this man is a narcissist or just plain psychotic. He'll gladly hurt you bc he knows with a few words you'll forgive him and come back. Two Just his sin. If you want to date this man DO NOT except to go out or celebrate ANYTHING bc he won't care/try to do anything. He'll sleep through it and not feel bad bc i feel like he'll say that you should know who he is by now and not be mad so yeah. Also he killed us so fuck him for that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
So yeah that's that. Lol i only wrote this bc i saw some writing about the brothers sin and how MC would react but they seemed so sad?(on MC's part, like how MC handled it) Idk if that's the correct word it just seemed to basic? I'm aware that everyone's writing is different and how they interpret the brothers/MC so this is my take on the whole thing and how i would be.

Demigod MC Series: Demeter
Have I been using this series to vicariously punish Belphie for the events of Season 1? I cannot confirm nor deny that statement.
Demigod MC Series: Intro, Aphrodite, Hermes, Hades, Dionysus, Demeter
Lucifer
Didn't think too much of the "human" when they popped out of the portal. Sure they had a straw hat and a huge basket full of produce but it wasn’t like they were… Wait… No… Were they…?
Oh no. Oh nonononono, this is not good…!!
Demeter is notoriously doting and protective of her children (see her freakout and breakdown after Hades abducted of Persephone as proof) and they've pretty much done the EXACT. SAME. THING. here!!
It was a mad scramble by him and Diavolo to contact and appease their godly Mother Bear before she came roaring down to Devildom herself to turn them all into barley. Thankfully, Zeus must have intervened at some point because though she was indeed PISSED, she didn't threaten to barge in… yet.
She made one thing very clear. Bend so much as a single hair on her precious child's head and there would be WAR…
The MC received a 24 hour security detail after that. Just Mammon wasn't going to cut it, he needed NO chances. It was a full rotation of Mammon, him and Beel for the entirety of their stay (Asmo and Levi both threw hissy fits at the prospect of babysitting, Satan couldn’t be trusted not to kill them just to irritate him, and Belphie was out for… obvious reasons).
In some ways, it wasn’t so bad. The MC was a very mild sort of person, rather even tempered. He’d dare say they were pleasant, mostly content to just tend to their gardens and be out in the moonlight…
But the problem was, he just could not convince them to stay OUT of nature. Including the forests, which were full of hellish beasts fully intent on gnawing their flesh from their bones… and their specialty was plants, not animals, sooo…
Their habit of sneaking out to wander the woods got so bad that he very nearly considered pulling a Belphie 2 and locking them in the basement for their own good. But Devil knows what damage their mother would do if she found out…
At least they make for pleasant company… And Diavolo seems to like them quite a bit himself so the mortal gets a pass from him. Now if they’d only consider their own safety for a change…
Mammon
They make him a KILLING.
Like, no seriously. Their produce is insane!! He’s never tasted food so good, especially stuff that’s come fresh from the ground! It only took a few berries for Mammon to throw on a straw hat himself and start harvesting! He’s a farmer now, baby!!
Weeellll not quite. He’s still absolutely only in it for the money, but anything he brings to a farmer’s market goes so fast that he can hardly care about the labor! He’s never made this much Grimm in his life!! And it’s totally legit for a change!
He bought himself another car, paid off half of his debt, and even got Levi back that 2 or 3 grand he leant him centuries ago. Really, Mammon’s living his best life and it’s all thanks to MC!
It’s a good thing his blatant grifting doesn’t hurt his relationship with them at all, in fact they seem to enjoy having his help regardless. They bring him drinks on hot days or invite him on picnics and stuff, it’s… it’s really sweet. They’re very nice to him and he appreciates it…
But… COULD YA JUST STAY PUT ALREADY???
It drives him INSANE that they won’t stay out of dangerous places!! After he started caring about them for more than just a meal ticket it only got even worse!!
He’s not usually one for monitoring someone’s every move (that kind of control freak behavior is more a Lucifer thing) but he eventually had to set up familiars around the House just to keep them from sneaking out at night...
What was so interesting out there anyway?? There wasn’t any kind of plant that he could bring them himself! They didn’t have any need to be out there!!
They’d keep telling him they’d be fine but it’s not like he’s going to actually buy that. They were too… nice to be dangerous or anything so why would he believe them?
No more running off, MC! Please, he’s beggin’ ya!!
Leviathan
Wait, gardening? Like, being outdoors and stuff? Ew. No thanks, he’ll pass.
That was more or less his first reaction when they showed up and it never really got much better than that…
He admits that they’re friendly and it’s not like he dislikes them or anything, but their thing so far from his thing that they just don’t have a lot in common… you know?
For starters, they get So. Antsy. when they’re inside for too long! He tried to invite them to a marathon once, but they could hardly keep still and kept looking around like they were searching for a window… He said, “to jump out of.” They insisted just for some fresh air, but he didn’t buy it...
They’re nice enough to listen to his rants, but they’re barely ever inside for him to do so and like HELL is he going to leave his room and stand around out there for that long. Ranting is at least a one to two hour engagement! What if he gets hot out there? And have you SEEN Devildom bees?? Hell no!!
He has, however, asked them on multiple occasions to reproduce flowers he’s seen in different anime, especially ones that have a very unique look and they’ve done some real wonders with that!
He can now claim to be the only person to ever own a Ruby-Jade Vine plant, straight from the pages of TSL when it was used to brew tea for the Lord of Lechery during his brief illness and-is anyone even still listening anymore?
The point is, it’s a flower so rare it was imaginary but now HE has it!... or had it for about a week until his utter incompetence of all things plant killed it…
He begged the MC for another but they were out of the plants they needed to make it and would have to go back to the human world to find more… He’s still mourning his loss… Poor Henry 4.0…
Satan
Well… He’s called this MC “salt of the Earth” and he does truly mean it. Take of that what you will.
He doesn’t get much in the way of intellectual conversation out of this mortal UNLESS he’s talking about plants, farming, or botany… Interesting topics and complex in their own right to be sure, but that’s pretty much their wheelhouse and they like it there.
That being said, the feats that they can perform are genuinely mind-blowing! They are the ONLY person he has ever met who can cultivate the Devildom’s own ultra-rare Phantom Orchid, a plant only blooms when it reaches a perfect state of undeath (i.e. both taken care of and neglected just enough so that it's only barely alive. The balance is so tricky to master that one hasn’t bloomed down there for centuries!)
There’s also something just genuinely relaxing about watching them work or helping them in the gardens… More so than he’d ever expected from such a simple activity.
He admits that he’s taken quite a few strolls through the flower-filled courtyard of the Demon Lord’s Castle just to admire its beauty... But anything that they can grow just blows all of that out of the water!
They even taught him several magic botanical techniques so now he can grow some pretty mad plants himself. Lucifer never expected to find that giant Venus Flytrap in his closet, but one was there regardless. 😏
Just… out of curiosity one day, he asked the MC if they could make him a new kind of catnip. Not for any nefarious reason! You know… just for research purposes…
The nip they made was so effective that the House grounds were FILLED with nipped-up cats for a whole month! He was in Heaven!! (and Lucifer practically wiped those plants from existence so he couldn’t get any more… asshole...)
That must have inspired them because they apparently made a demons-only version that they told him about WELL after the fact. Had he known, he probably would have burned the stuff on principle... Do you know how dangerous demon-nip could be to them? Experiment responsibly, MC!
Asmodeus
Ehhhh, gardening SOUNDS like one of those things that should be super Devilgram-able, but then you realize how sweaty and dirty you get in the process and it’s a huge turn off… Sorry MC.
When they first came down to the Devildom, he thought two things: 1) Such a sweet little flower child, as adorable as they were, would never survive; and 2) even if they could, he would never ever see eye-to-eye with them on the “wonders” of getting all up in the dirt.
Well, he was right about 2, but certainly not 1. Personally, he thinks his brothers worry about them too much, they ARE still a demigod.
At one point he saw a pack of hellhounds almost trample one of their vegetable gardens and they lost it. Word to the wise, never try to take on a child of Demeter in their own garden. Those hounds were wrapped up in rose vines before they could even yelp...
Yeah, the MC would be fine.
That being said, while everybody else clamors over their produce, he thinks that their flowers are really where it’s at!
Taking just five minutes in one of their gardens is something else... He’s never seen blossoms as healthy and immaculate in all the Devildom before! Their beauty could (almost) rivals his own! What they do isn’t just a hobby, it’s an art.
He’s taken multiple pictures with their blossoms and they go viral every time. It’s so rare to actually see gorgeous, petal-filled flowers in the Devildom, most of the native plants are of the man-eating variety.
His only complaint about this MC is that they seem to feel much more at home in work clothes and dirt than they do in any sort of party-look he tries to give them… Cute as they are, they can afford to gussy up sometimes can’t they? Mud and grass stains don’t make for a good look, sorry.
Beelzebub
Beel gardens and the MC gardens as well. Add on that they seem to be able to grow all manner of fruits and veggies and he likes this one. A lot.
They had just finished apple-picking when the portal nabbed them so they had a massive basket of apples at the time. Naturally, Beel more or less stole the thing on sight, but the apples inside were so juicy and good that he almost shook them down for more on the spot!
Imagine his surprise when they, half pleadingly, explained to him that if he got them some seeds they could just grow more… and it wouldn’t even take that long.
To be clear, the formula he saw was this: Get seeds > bring seeds to mortal > mortal grows seeds > mortal makes endless supply of food….
Congratulations MC, you’ve now earned the sixthborn’s eternal loyalty after a grand total of… two minutes. He didn’t even know their name, but he was willing to take a bullet for them (provided he got more of those apples).
The next several months were spent with Beel attached to them to the hip in some way, but honestly? It was just so wholesome anyway…
If he’s helping in the garden, he never complains. He does most of the heavy lifting and actually likes being out there with them (unlike others...)
Many afternoons were spent sitting under fruit trees and talking. Sometimes, they go to the trouble of preparing a picnic or something but it would always inevitably end with Beel plucking the whole tree clean of whatever ripe (or unripe) fruit he can get his hands on with a smile.
The MC never minded though. That’s just another excuse to grow more, right?
His only problem was when the MC would sneak out to the forest… especially when they get too antsy and just go alone.
He HATES it when they do that! How is he supposed to keep them safe if they just wander off?? He knows that they have a special connection to nature and all, but it isn’t safe…
He’s flown in and scooped them back up to the House on numerous occasions and his “talking tos” get sterner after every rescue... Please stay put, MC! He’d have so many reasons to be sad if you were eaten… 😔
Belphegor
Okay, he was looking for a capable, if not gullible, human. Not a shoeless flower hippy!
He honestly wasn't expecting much out of this one... Damn their little heart because they did genuinely believed his lies, it’s just that they weren't… well… They were really good at gardening.
… And it grew kind of hard to keep hating them whenever they'd show up just to give him fresh berries or a bouquet to see him smile… He may claim that his heart is made of nightmares and orphan tears, but who doesn’t enjoy being given a batch of flowers?
Damn their sweetness too… Right to here.
When it came time to kill them he had a heavier heart than he thought he would, but kind of saw it like putting down the sacrificial lamb. Gotta be done to reach better goals... Stiff upper lip and all that.
Unfortunately for him, they had taken to carrying packets of demon-nip with them as a self-defense measure…
He wasn’t exactly sure what he expected when they shouted “Get nipped!” at him mid-attack, but it wasn’t a face full of some smelly herb! Like, really smelly…! Actually, that smelt kind of good… Hold on.
Turns out murderous rage really doesn’t last long after you get what is effectively ultra-strong catnip thrown in your face. They ended up having to go and tell Lucifer what happened themselves because Belphie was way too blissed out on the floor to do anything... They were legitimately worried they might have fried his brain...
He’s told the effects of the demon-nip lasted three days. He doesn’t know, because he hardly remembers any of it... They described him as like he was high on “weed” and “ecstasy” at the same time but he doesn’t know what either of those are either so it wasn’t helpful…
Truthfully, they were so nice to him while he was recovering that he couldn’t even be mad afterwards so all's well that ends well? Either way, he’s sleeping under their orchard trees from now on. It’s peaceful out there...
They burnt all that nip though. It’s some strong stuff...

Hey✌️ I was wondering if you could do cuddles and kisses with Leviathan, Beel and Mammon? Headcanons if you would? Thank you! Have a nice day!
I WANNA SMOOCH MAMON SO BAD PLS
also!! ty for requesting this!! I had sm fun writing it and it's been a long time ever since I wrote for obey me🥺
Kissing and cuddling - Obey me! headcanons (Mammon, Levi & Beel)
Mammon
He’s one of the clingiest brothers, if not THE clingiest one. He’s a man that has been starved of proper affections for far too long, so the moment he has you within arm's reach, you can bet that he’ll always be touching you in some sort of way. Arm around your waist, fingers gripping your sleeve, hand reaching for yours, whatever is fine as long as there’s some sort of contact. This habit of his comes out in particular whenever your attention isn't on him. If you’re talking to someone, he’ll just come behind you and give you a back hug, resting his chin on your shoulder as you go on with the conversation.
The first few attempts at intimacy make him blush like crazy, but he gets better over time (not that much but at least he’s not on the verge of passing out each time). Still, his cravings for affections make him naturally drawn to you, so he can’t help you but trail after you most of the time (whenever he’s not out gambling or causing mischief yk). This said, his happy place is definitely between your arms. In fact, a daily part of his routine consists of laying on your bed, snuggled close against your chest. Cuddle sessions mostly take place in your room because the moment you get close to Mammon that will automatically become his room too. It’s like living in a shared apartment, since he strolls in without much care, showers in your bathroom (he has his toothbrush, cologne and everything else there) and keeps his shirts in your closet. He does all this because he believes you’re okay with it, but if you tell him to stop he’d remove all his traces from your bedroom and distance himself with a slightly broken heart. It’s part of his love language, and denying it can kinda damage your relationship.
Back to the fluff though! He’s the smallest spoon ever and no, I do not accept criticism. Go argue with the wall or fight me. The only time he’ll be a big spoon will be when you need comfort. Any other time he just wants to be held.
His kisses can start off slow and be sometimes shy, but they all soon turn into eager, sloppy kisses. He enjoys it so much he drowns in the moment, unable to think of anything but you and your lips. It’s not like he’s an inexperienced kisser (quite the contrary actually) but anything that involves you makes his head spin and stomach flutter with feelings he has never felt before.
This man accepts any and all types of kisses you wish to give him, but if he had to choose a favorite one then that’d be the flurry of smooches you fire at his face as you squish his cheeks in a burst of love. Not even his skin tone can hide the massive blush that blooms across his profile with every peck; but no matter what he tells you, don’t stop. Never. If you do he’ll catch your wrists and pout like a kid deprived of his favorite candy until you continue with your cascade of pecks.
Levi
This man wishes he could be as smooth as all those otome protagonists, but no matter how much time passes and how comfortable he gets with you, his blushy cheeks will follow him everywhere, anytime. What changes though is that despite the embarrassment, as time goes by he indulges and initiates intimacy more and more. Moreover, he’ll never deny you; even in public, he might squirm and protest but in the end you can always get away with whatever you want (as long as it’s not too “hardcore”).
One of his favorite cuddling poses that he fantasizes about for days, consists of you sitting on his lap, encaged between his arms as he plays with his videogames. When he finally finds the courage to pull you close, he’s trembling so much he absolutely cannot concentrate on the screen in front of him, failing every mission/level of his current game; he won't move though! He's kind of like petrified.. It took him so long to get into this position in the first place, so he's not letting go now, that's for sure. The position in itself isn't anything too particular or scandalous, but that's why he likes it. It's something so ordinary that it's a special thing for someone like him.
Sleeping is a good countermeasure to his shyness, because his unconscious body will chase after yours no matter how far apart in bed you are (in BED because you aint sleeping in a damned bathtub??). He’ll hug you to his body and entangle his legs with yours, basking in the shared warmth of your bodies. (please please PLEASE sneak under his oversized hoodie and snuggle in there while the two of you sleep!!! He’ll have five consecutive heart attacks once he wakes up but he’ll find it the cutest thing ever).
Kind of a big spoon but he’s too shy to initiate anything. Lean into his touch like a cat (maybe purr too) and he’ll be putty in your hands, letting you hug and kiss whatever part of him you want.
Just like any other display of intimacy, kisses aren't his forte, but still, he tries. He's a bit clumsy and might throw in some signature phrases worthy of any tsundere afterwards, but he can get serious too! There are times when he wants to demonstrate you his "manly" side (why would it have to do with gender levi?) and that he too can be a proper lover! During those sudden spurs of confidence turn his kisses into really pleasurable experiences, and truthfully, they are his best ones.
Beel
You guys know those gigantic teddy bears right? 2 meters tall of pure fluff?? That’s Beel.
This man is,,, where do I even start. It’s as if God made him with the sole purpose of creating a professional cuddler. Beel gives the best hugs and cuddles in all three realms. His hugs are warm and soft, and they have the power of making even the most obstinate of insomniacs fall asleep within mere minutes under the right circumstances. Of course the duration of your sleep is not guaranteed, as you’ll probably awaken at the sound of munching or his stomach’s roars. Still, he won’t move unless he’s literally on the verge of unleashing his demon form out of hunger, as he doesn’t want to interrupt your sleep.
His kisses are as soft as feathers but full of love, always accompanied with a toothy smile or a fond giggle. He doesn’t mind going for deeper kisses (particularly after you’ve eaten something so he can directly taste it from you), but Beel generally remains a big softie most of the time. Smooch him all you want, cradle his face with your hands, pinch his cheeks and tickle his sides, he’ll let you do anything you want as long as you’re enjoying it!
He’s kind of scared of hurting you seen the size and strength difference, so he’s usually very gentle when touching you, although he really really likes enveloping you in a bone-crushing embrace every now and then. Sometimes, as a playful manner to show his affection towards you, he’ll bite whatever spot of skin he finds nearest. You’re sitting next to him? He’ll target your shoulder. You’re chomp. They don’t really hurt, it’s just a genuine gesture for him! He’s munching on food all the time and he loves food, and since he loves you too… *chomp*
All cuddle sessions with him must involve three things, and they are fundamental: you, him and food. The more food you have, the longer you’ll cuddle. When the inevitable happens and the mountain of snacks you prepared is nowhere to be seen anymore, he'll gently wrap your arms and legs around his torso and walk you both to the kitchen, carrying you around like a big baby that doesn't want to leave its parent's embrace. He'll keep you there for as long as your muscles let you, supporting you with an arm as he ravages the fridge with the other.

Levi woke up early, as usual, however, he skipped his usual workout in favor of deep cleaning the house for the third time this week. Just as he was putting his broom back into the closet when the doorbell rang. He anxiously smoothed out his cotton dress shirt, tugging at the seam as he tried to tuck it into his pants.
“Hello-” His shoulders slumped when he found a young suburban housewife on the other side of the door instead of the gloomy social worker.
“Oh hi there! So sorry that it’s taken me so long but…” She held out a bottle of red wine with a neat ribbon tied around the neck.
“You didn’t have to,” Levi answered tensely as she beamed politely at him.
“I know but...it just felt like the right thing to do.” She shrugged, her strawberry blonde hair swaying, the strands just barely touched her shoulders.
“Well...thank you.” He thanked her, hoping that she would take the hint that this was a bad thing.
“No worries! By the way, my name is Petra, my husband and I live across the street.” She gabbed her thumb towards the house across from his.
“I’m Levi, nice to meet you.” He said, fighting to keep from grinding his teeth. It wasn’t that this woman was in the wrong, no it was simply the timing of her gesture. He was already on edge and he was never a fan of new people.
“Nice to meet you too! If you’re ever interested, we have a book club and-”
“Look, I appreciate the gesture but this isn’t the best time.” Levi cut her off and he felt a small pang of guilt at the way her expression dropped.
“Oh no of course! Anyway, you know where to find me.” She chuckled anxiously as she began her hasty retreat. It couldn’t have been soon enough, because a silver honda accord pulled into his driveway. Levi swallowed thickly as he watched Michelle climb out of her car and brave the icy sidewalk.
“Hope I’m not interrupting anything.” She said curtly as she pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose and waited for Levi to step aside. When she crossed the threshold, he shut and locked the door behind her. She immediately began checking out the front room and the living room. The house had a nice open floorplan, so the first thing that anyone saw when entering was the living room and kitchen.
“Not at all,” Levi responded as she slowly wandered into the kitchen. He followed helplessly behind her as she began jotting notes down on a clipboard.
“Well, I must say that I am impressed with the hast you made these arrangements.” She complimented as she paced down the hallway, poking her head into the room that Levi had prepared for Mikasa.
“I don’t like to leave projects unfinished.” He responded as he waited in the doorway.
“Admirable.” She scribbled a quick note before finding her way back into the kitchen. Levi chewed the inside of his cheek as he waited with bated breath for her next words.
“Everything seems in great condition here. I don’t see any reason that she can’t move in by Monday.” She placed her clipboard on the counter and faced him with a tense smile.
“Monday?” Levi couldn’t hide the nerves in his tone and she smiled genuinely.
“Of course, we try to keep kids out of the homes as much as possible. Have you figured out what you wish to do for child care?” She moved seamlessly onto the next topic and Levi nodded, motioning for her to take a seat at the island.
“Uh, there’s a daycare that I was looking at. I’m also looking for a nanny.” Levi said as she settled into her seat and he sat a chair away from her.
“Excellent, my only concern with the daycare is that she has been attending the same one for some time now. It’s not far from here, I would highly encourage that you keep that the same.” She went back to her clipboard, jotting down some more notes as Levi contemplated what she had said.
“Makes sense.” He mumbled as she placed her pen down with a soft sigh.
“I got to say, I’m very grateful for your enthusiasm with this, makes my job a lot easier.” She smiled at him and Levi nodded curtly.
“Anyway, I’ll drop her off Monday morning, I believe that her current foster family uses the same daycare that she’s attending, Carla is the mom’s name. She’s made it clear that she is more than willing to lend a hand if ever needed.” Michelle jotted down a number on a scrap piece of paper and slid it across the counter to Levi who blinked stupidly down at her chicken scratch.
“That’s all I need from you.” Michelle stood and gathered her things, Levi trailed behind her to the front door and watched her leave. It was already Thursday, meaning he had less than five full days to finish preparing for Mikasa’s arrival. He felt like a tortured spirit in his own home, wandering the halls hallowly, he had never lived in such a large space. Not that his past homes had been small, but rather, he had always lived with someone.
Kenny and he had shared a small trailer all through his elementary years and well into his high school years. Then in college, he had roomed with Erwin and Mike, first in the dorms and then in shitty apartments. But now, he was alone. At least it was only for a few more days, but could you really count a four-year-old as company?
He found himself once again outside of the empty room, standing right on the threshold. The mere sight of the room made his stomach sink, from the subtle baby pink comforter to the dresser that was filled with tiny clothes. He turned and shut the door softly before marching back into the living room. The mid-afternoon sun was drifting in through the front windows and he pinched the bridge of his nose.
His phone rang obnoxiously and he scrambled to dig it out of his pocket. Hange’s contact lit up his screen and he inhaled sharply, preparing himself for whatever it was that Hange found important enough to share with him at one pm on a Thursday.
“Levi, is this a good time?” That was his first red flag, Hange was never considerate of his time when she called.
“It’s fine why?” He sighed as he began pacing the length of his living room.
“Well, I’ve got excellent news.” Hange couldn’t contain the excitement in her voice.
“What is it?” He encouraged her and she let out a muted squeal.
“I’ve found the perfect nanny for you! She just graduated last semester, I’ll send you her contact info.” Levi felt a small weight lift off of his chest, even though it wasn’t set in stone, at least he was making headway.
“She’s done this before, ever since she was a senior in high school actually. She told me over lunch that her usual employer doesn’t need her anymore so she’s on the hunt for a job!” Hange babbled on and Levi nodded along as he dropped onto the leather sofa.
“Got it thank you.” He confirmed as the ping of her sending the contact info came through his phone.
“Have her over for dinner, or maybe go out for tea. Ask her some questions and I’m sure you’ll find her more than qualified. She has no commitments so I bet if you can make her like you, then she’ll stick around for a while.” Hange chuckled deviously and Levi clicked his tongue.
“I have no idea what criteria I even have to look at to see if she’s qualified.” Levi scoffed and Hange snorted.
“Mikasa’s four years old, she has school and such, I mean as far as I’m concerned your nanny just needs to be able to drive and cook.” Hange shrugged as she flipped through her lesson planner.
“There’s got to be more than just that.” Levi bit the skin on his knuckle as he began wracking his brain for what makes a good nanny.
“Sure there is, I’m just brainstorming.” Hange chuckled and Levi rolled his eyes.
“I’ll make a list.” He concluded and Hange hummed her agreement.
“That’s a great idea, I mean in the end she’s going to be working for you so just put down qualities that you think make a good worker. Or something.” Hange seemed rather indifferent and Levi felt his jaw tick in annoyance.
“Right, well thanks.”
“No problem, catch ya later!” And with that, she hung up.
--
Levi stood outside of the coffee shop. He snuck one last glance at the shortlist that he had made. His brow creased when he read through it, the first point he had put down was: in-state driver’s license. Closely followed by good hygiene. Frustration bubbled into his chest as he wadded the paper up and shoved it deep into his pocket. He finally pushed through the door and approached the familiar counter. He ordered his usual and went to sit in one of the secluded booths in the back.
He had arrived a good ten minutes early, hoping to gather himself before meeting the nanny. As he watched the steam rise off of his cup of tea he savored the few moments of silence. That was until the bell on the door chimed. He knew it was you, Hange had described you in-depth when he had told her he reached out to you that evening she sent your contact.
Your hair was pulled back off of your face in a half up half down style. You wore a pair of fitted jeans and a knitted sweater. Levi watched you as you ordered your drink, you seemed so sure of yourself, the way your shoulders were pulled back and your jaw set in determination. Already off to a good start and he hadn’t even heard you speak. Levi watched you grab your drink before doing a half-turn, eyes scanning the small cafe. They landed on him and Levi knew he’d been caught staring. He did a small tilt of his head, inviting you to join him, you smiled warmly and took quick steps in his direction.
Levi stood and extended his hand to you, which you accepted with a firm handshake.
“You must be Mr. Ackerman.” Your voice was smooth and honeyed, immediately putting him at ease.
“Levi is fine.” He said as he sat back down in the booth. You slid down into the seat opposite of him, clutching your purse in your lap.
“I understand that you have some...experience.” Levi started a bit awkwardly. You nodded eagerly and pulled out a folded piece of paper.
“Of course, in the past, it’s mostly been under the table, but we can work around that of course.” Levi examined the typed-out document. A resume of your past jobs and a few recommendations from past employers.
“Under the table is fine…” He mumbled as he thumbed through the pages.
“So, Hange told me a bit about your...unique situation.” You pressed and Levi stilled in his motions.
“What’d she tell you?” He asked, grey eyes boring into you from over the tops of the papers.
“Just that you were a new parent and you needed a hand. Takes a village you know.” You chuckled a bit tensely and Levi felt some tension leave his shoulders. At least Hange had given him the liberty of explaining himself.
“She’s not wrong, I’ve taken custody of my distant cousin, I know nothing about child-rearing,” Levi admitted point blank and you weren’t sure if he was kidding or not. When his expression remained as cold as stone, you realized that he was in fact not.
“I see...I’ll admit that I don’t have much experience with...well stuff like this either.” You smiled at him in an attempt to diffuse the tension between the two of you. Levi’s eyes narrowed and he reclined back into the booth, eyes never leaving yours.
“We’ll just come up with it as we go.”
“So you’re set on me as your nanny?” You beamed and he scowled, although you were right. Levi knew from the moment he shook your hand that he would choose you.
“Yes, Mikasa arrives on Monday and I expect you to be there when she does.” Levi scoffed, lifting his teacup by the rim and taking a long sip.
“Be where exactly?” You were getting smart, something that simultaneously annoyed and intrigued him.
“My house, I’ll send you the address the day before,” Levi answered with a roll of his eyes.
“Sounds perfect.” You hummed, lifting your coffee cup to your own lips.
“What are my hours going to be?” You asked as you placed your cup back onto the tabletop.
“Mikasa goes to half days at preschool, so I’ll need you to drop her off and pick her up from that. She needs to be dropped off at eight am and picked up at noon.” Levi tapped his finger on the rim of his cup and you nodded.
“I can do that, so I’ll fix all three meals then?” You asked and Levi felt a tinge of guilt. He knew that he wasn’t completely prepared to be a parent, but he still felt ashamed for seeking help. Kenny had raised him to be independent. It had taken so much to reach out to Hange, and now he was relying on a strange young woman.
“Yes, that’s preferred. I don’t have any rules besides keeping the house spotless.” His finger was planted on the tabletop now to emphasize the importance of his only rule. You nodded in understanding.
“You can set the boundaries for Mikasa, I trust that you have enough experience in this area.” Levi continued and you tensed. Never had you ever had so much responsibility riding on a nanny position. Your employers set the rules and you enforced them, but now you were expected to be both parties. But when Levi slid a paper across the table your eyes widened. On the notepad was a range of wages that he was willing to pay. You struggled to contain your shock as you clutched the paper.
“T-This is way too much.” You squeaked as you pushed the paper back to Levi.
“Seems reasonable to me.” He shrugged and you felt your face flush.
“Well...it’s your money after all.” You reasoned as you grappled internally to regain your composure.
“But if at any time and for any reason you need to lower it that’s fine too.” You waved your hands in front of you and Levi’s brows pinched together.
“Don’t worry about it.” He assured you and set his empty cup aside.
“Was there anything else you wanted to cover?” You asked, sneaking a glance at your watch.
“That’s all from me, I’ll text you my address and get you set up to pick up and drop off with the school,” Levi said as he pulled his coat on over his shoulders. Your cup was still full so you remained seated as you watched him straighten the fabric of his jacket.
“Alright, see you Monday morning then.” You said as he marched towards the door, his posture rigid. As soon as he disappeared through the door, the doubt swirled in your chest. You had never worked this many hours and the added pressure of Mikasa coming from a traumatic past made you uneasier. But you weren’t one to shy away from a challenge, you pulled your phone out and began to dive headfirst into the internet. After about twenty minutes of scrolling through countless tabs and foster parent forums, you felt at least somewhat prepared.
You ended up ordering three more cups of coffee, by the time you were halfway through your third cup, your hands shook as you held your phone. The screen was beginning to put a strain on your eyes as you squinted at the black font. With a heavy sigh, you placed your phone screen down on the table and tossed your head back against the booth’s cushion. After a few deep breaths, you collected your things and made your way out into the chilly air, determined to continue gathering information and preparing yourself for the task at hand.
--
Levi did some research of his own that afternoon. Sitting in his desk chair, he clicked through tabs, a simple google search had shown him your Instagram. He had been relieved to find it public, your page seemed average, nothing too out of the ordinary. But he was disappointed to find it rather small, with not a lot of posts or followers. It seemed that you, like himself, were not too fond of posting every small movement that you made for the world to see. In fact, your most recent post was from almost a full year ago, right around spring break. The post was a compilation of photos you had taken on a biology trip that Hange had organized. He closed the tab and pulled up a new one, the official website for the daycare that Mikasa had been attending. He found the phone number and dialed it into his keypad on his phone. He needed to register you as one of Mikasa’s emergency contacts and as her primary source of transportation.
The process was easy and he was relieved to be able to check it off of his list so he could at least attempt and get some of his work done. He needed to savor these last few child-free days before Mikasa became a permanent and very prominent factor in his life.
__
As promised, Levi sent you a text with nothing but his address and the time he expected you there the next morning. Your sleep that night was fitful, tossing and turning well into the early hours. You only ended up sleeping a grand total of six hours before having to get up and get ready for your first day of work. You sifted through your closet in search of an appropriate outfit, as badly as you wanted to wear a sweatshirt and a pair of jeans, you knew Levi would likely frown upon it.
So you ended up choosing a plush sweater and a pair of jeans. Pleased with your appearance, you then left your small apartment and made the twenty-minute drive out to the suburbs where Levi was located. The roads were icy the sky was dark with promises of more snow, by the time you had arrived a few fat flakes were already dwindling from the sky. You parked on the side of the road, careful to not block his mailbox, and trudged up the slick driveway and up to the front door. It only took one soft knock for him to pull the door open. He was as handsome as you remembered, his hair was damp from a shower and his hands were busy as he finished tying his tie. He stepped aside and walked back into his house as you kicked the snow off of your shoes.
The space was remarkably clean considering a single man occupied the space. Levi gestured vaguely with his head for you to follow him into the kitchen and you obliged. He pulled out a neon green piece of paper and handed it to you, Mikasa’s name was written in stark penmanship.
“That’s your tag to pick her up, don’t forget it.” He said as he shoved a set of keys into his back pocket.
“Is she here?” Your voice was hushed and your eyes strayed to the hallway which was dark.
“Not yet, the service worker should be here any minute now,” Levi said as he folded his collar down over his tie and finally turned to face you.
“Oh, alright. So what time are you usually off of work?” You asked, setting your purse on the island in the kitchen. Levi sighed and licked his lips thoughtfully.
“Depends...I normally stay late but technically my workday ends at 5:30 but I probably will be at least an hour later than that.” Levi said and you nodded along in understanding.
“That’s not a problem, do you have any idea of what time Mikasa goes to sleep at?” You asked, and judging by the way his shoulders tensed up, he did not.
“Not a clue, but I’ll ask the social worker.” He assured you and you nodded, allowing your eyes to scan over the kitchen. The marble countertops were so white and obviously well kept, you knew that they would give you grief, the oven and microwave looked fancy, as did the fridge. As Levi reached up for a cup from one of the deep navy cupboards, you noted that they were the kind that shut quietly. Your staring was interrupted by the shrill ring of the doorbell. Levi sat his cup aside and walked briskly back towards the front door.
“Good morning Mr. Ackerman, may we come in?” An unfamiliar voice could be heard, followed closely by the sound of two new sets of footsteps on the hardwood floors.
“Of course.” Levi’s voice was even lower and harder to make out as the newcomers shuffled in. They rounded the corner and your heart felt like it was beating out of your chest when your eyes landed on the small girl. She wore a white dress paired with a pink cardigan and a scarlet scarf. The older woman helped Mikasa out of her plush pink coat and draped it over her forearm.
“Who is this?” The woman asked, eyes slightly widened as they landed on you.
“This is (Y/n), my nanny,” Levi said vaguely and the woman nodded slowly before gently pushing Mikasa out from behind her legs.
“Honey, why don’t we go take a look at your new room?” The woman asked and the girl’s brows knitted together, but she let the social worker guide her down the hall and out of sight. Levi tailed behind them, you almost followed as well, but you feared overwhelming her. Levi hauled the small suitcase down the hall and you heard the soft chatter of the two adults. A few moments passed before they returned, the social worker shook Levi’s hand and knelt down to give Mikasa a tender hug.
“We’ll be in touch.” She promised as she showed herself out. Levi’s shoulders drooped once the woman left and he looked down at the small girl who stood near his side.
“Mikasa,” He cleared his throat and the small girl looked up at him, eyes swimming with tears and lip quivering. A rush of panic flooded his chest but you were quicker than he was.
“Mikasa, my name is (Y/n), we’re going to be spending a lot of time together.” You had crossed the room to kneel before her with your hand outstretched invitingly. The girl gripped the edge of her dress and swayed it anxiously as she avoided your eyes.
“I know this is really scary and confusing, but we’re going to work through this together.” You assured her when she remained closed off. Levi watched with wide eyes as tears slid down her face and rolled off her chin. You leaned forward and swiped them away with your thumb and Mikasa whimpered unsurely.
“Tell you what, I was just about to make some breakfast. Have you eaten yet?” You asked, after a moment of contemplation, Mikasa shook her head no shyly.
“What would you like? I’ve been told that I make a mean waffle.” You smiled wryly and Mikasa’s lip quivered as it quirked up in an unsure smile.
“I wanna make cinnamon rolls.” She spoke softly and you nodded with wide eager eyes.
“Totally.” You agreed, still holding your hand out as you slowly stood. Mikasa accepted your outstretched, her small hand was easily enveloped in your own as you led her around the island.
“Hey Levi, how much time before you’ve got to leave?” You asked as you stopped to hoist Mikasa up onto the counter.
“About 30 minutes.” He said, trying to contain himself from scolding you for putting the child onto the counter.
“Want to help us?” You invited and Levi sighed, knowing it would be wrong to decline.
“I don’t have cinnamon rolls.” He said instead of answering the original question.
“Oh that’s not a problem. Do you have flour? Yeast, eggs?” You asked as you turned and began rummaging through the cabinets.
“Of course, I’m not an animal.” He scoffed and you chuckled as you pulled out a bag of flour.
“That’s all we need.” You sat the bag next to Mikasa who reached out and touched it experimentally. Next you pulled out the carton of eggs from the fridge, Mikasa opened the carton and gently held an egg. Levi could easily imagine her losing her grip and dropping the egg onto his freshly cleaned wood floors.
“Where’s your cinnamon?” You asked, back turned and arms outstretched as you held the cabinet open.
“Here.” Levi slid past you, opening the neighboring cabinet and held the spice out to you. With a smile you accepted it and added the container to the growing pile of ingredients.
“How long does this take?” Levi asked, glancing at his watch.
“Not 30 minutes.” You answered wryly as you handed Mikasa a wooden spoon, she accepted it happily. Her small hands wrapped around the handle and she placed the spoon against her cheek, basically hugging the utensil.
“What else do you need?” He asked as you perused his kitchen.
“Just yeast and sugar.” You answered as you crouched to look for a bowl.
“It’s over here.” He opened a cabinet near the one you were inspecting and pulled out a bag of sugar and a handful of yeast packets.
“Do you cook a lot?” You asked and he shrugged.
“Enough, I hate eating out.” He answered and you hummed in understanding.
Levi watched as you began making the dough and Mikasa leaned on your shoulder as you kneaded the dough. Her grey eyes widened when you motioned for her to join in. She poked the dough and you smiled as she splayed her small hands over the surface of the squishy dough.
Once again, all Levi could think about how dirty her hands were as she began kneading the dough as you had previously.
“That’s great! Now we can let it sit for a while before we roll them up!” You explained as you gathered the dough back up into the bowl and laid a kitchen towel over it.
“Want an apple while we wait?” You asked and Mikasa nodded enthusiastically as you turned to grab the fruit. Levi looked at his watch once more, he still had about 10 minutes before he had to leave. But he felt the pressure and reality of his newfound responsibility weighing heavy on his chest. So he went to get his shoes and retreat like the coward he was.
“Leaving?” You asked as he pulled his shoes on, you had already cut the apple and Mikasa was watching with curious eyes as she crunched on a slice.
“Yeah, I’ll be back before 8.” He promised and you nodded.
“See you then.” You called after him as he slipped out of the garage door, throwing up a careless wave of acknowledgment as he went. You then turned back to Mikasa and sighed exasperatedly and she giggled as you returned to making her breakfast. This was going to be a long day.

Love Story
Levi Ackerman x reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲; Levi's and Y/n love isn't accepted by many specially Y/n's parents, an Eldian and a Marleyan? a great represention of Persephone's and Hades love.
𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬; profanity, angst, scene of smut (not explicitly described), violence, blood, being called whore (by her mother), homophobia (also used by her mother), spoilers.
Taglist; @icedkoffees
Note; she/her pronouns used for the reader as well as female anatomy. Also I'm using what Isayama said about how Levi would act shy around his crush and him being uncomfortable with sexual intercourse. And I also want to add that I don't know much about what happens when the Marleyans invaded Paradise, and I also added my own thing to help with my plot so this could be call a cannonverse!au.
Tumblr media
PERSEPHONE a young women who's innocence was taken from her the moment she was kidnapped by her uncle, who fell in love with her. Despite her mother's (Demeter) attempts to fully get her back right away from the hands of her brother, it was too late that wasn't going to happened not after Hades persuaded Persephone to eat four seeds of pomegranate, which forced someone to have a connection with their captor, making them come back to them.
Each spring time Persephone would be living with her mother on earth, while in winter she was with Hades in the underworld.
Levi was the Persephone to Y/n's Hades, she being the one who used him and their love for each other was the pomegranate making Levi come back to her.
It's ironic how their love story started with y/n getting taken away from Marley, a place she called home.
Even though she wasn't necessarily kidnaped, she was sent away to accomplish a mission in a place called Paradise, she found it ridiculous how it was named that way when that land was full of devils.
Tumblr media
Y/n was shipped to Paradise along with the warriors. She was going to infiltrate into the Survey Corps where she would hopefully sabotage every expedition without getting caught.
Her mission was to make sure none of the warriors get too cozy in the foreign place, and to focus on their mission, but it was impossible to do so when all the people who were described as devils, were actually just like them. Humans.
She was older than those kids being 22 when they were still 15, y/n loved them, they were like little siblings to her and it hurt when they lost Marcel, the jaw.
"Oi brat! Stay focused" the voice of her captain took her out of her train of thoughts
Captain Levi, he was called humanity strongest and was also what everyone called their only hope. At first Y/n didn't understood why he needed such a big tittle, but after being in his squad and witnessing him showing his skills and his hatred towards titans, she got why.
"I'm sorry captain" she saluted, which was dismissed by him
"You called what you did back in the kitchen, cleaning?" he asked pointing towards the place he just mentioned "There is dust everywhere, go and clean everything again, I don't want to see any dust in there again. That's where our food is made, you idiot"
Without another word he left, and when she felt like he was out of earshot, she kicked a chair, breaking it. He might be Humanities strongest, but he was soo irritating, so obsessed with cleaning. That's what they always did for the most part of their time.
"there is dust everywhere my ass" she mocked Levi's voice while looking around the kitchen she just finished cleaning minutes ago
She had made sure everything was left without a spot of dust, how in the world did Levi saw dust anywhere.
After she had cleaned the kitchen area, Levi had send her to clean the stables which took a lot of time since he told her to clean alone. It was already sun down when she had finished.
She was exhausted, her clothes were pooled with sweat and glued to her skin making her uncomfortable, she really needed a shower.
"Go take a shower" the sudden voice of the raven man scare the hell out of her
"Fuck Captain!" y/n yelled, putting a hand on her chest as if that would calm her speeding heart beat
"Go now, and then come to eat dinner with us" he continued, the blank stare he gave her when they made eye contact given her chills
"Yes, sir" she saluted, before leaving
The mess hall was well a mess, the cadets eat like animals. The same soup and bread they always eat, Y/n found it extremely annoying how the Military Police get all the meat when the Survey Corps were the ones doing the only brave work inside the walls.
"Y/n if you're not going to eat your soup can I have it?" Sasha asked
Oh, how much she wanted to say no, but she had a reputation to hold and she didn't want the soup anyway.
Y/n faked a smile, (one that everyone thought that was genuine) before saying "of course, Sasha" passing the bowl full of hot soup to the girl
"Thanks!"
Y/n felt how eyes were burning through her skull and turned her head to look down the table, just to see Captain Levi staring at her with a suspicious look in his eyes.
Oh shit, if he in some way found out about who she really was, she was fucked. The young women tried her best to stay seated, but her nerves didn't let her making her stand up.
"I'm exhausted, I think I'm going to sleep"
It wasn't a lie she was tired from all the cleaning, but she didn't want to sleep, she just needed to desperately get out of there.
When she was finally outside, y/n leaned against the wall, sliding down while taking a deep breath.
"You know, it isn't good to fake smile to your friends"
Y/n immediately turn around at the sudden voice of her captain, he did it again, he scared the living shit out of her.
"Captain!, Stop doing that!" her face felt warmer than usual for some reason
Was she blushing?
"Why did you do it? Are you sad?" Levi asked putting down a handkerchief on the ground before sitting next to her, looking over at her examinating her face
"Oh it's just stress" Y/n replied, praying that he would just believe her
"I see.." he turned towards the sky where the moon shined brightly along with the stars
What Y/n thought that would be a awkward silence, turned into a comfortable one. They just stared at the sky above them, it remind Y/n that she had a family waiting for her outside the walls and she was not going to disappoint them by getting comfy with the captain, even though she didn't know what his intentions were.
"I'm going to take a nap" she stood up, and called over her shoulder "Have a good night, captain" before proceeding to walk towards her room
"Good night, cadet..."
Tumblr media
Y/n didn't know when it happened, was it when they continued sitting together and looking at the sky in complete silence, or was it when in some of those same nights they spoke more and more about each other's personal life (in none of those conversations she mentioned Marley, but still talked about her family). She didn't remember how her feelings for him changed, but they did.
Right now she was there, in the same spot on the wall with Levi next to her. They were even in first name basics with each other.
The raven man cleared his throat catching her attention, turning her head to the side to look at him she noticed how he was blushing.
"I.. I think is pretty obvious what I feel for— about you by now"
A surprised noice escaped Y/n mouth, she expected to have that talk with him some day, but not today or Levi being so straight forward with the subject.
The women could only nod, her brain still processing what he just said.
"I was wondering, if you felt the same.." his voice dropped to a whisper, while he looked down
"No" she shaked her head, making Levi looked up at her eyes widened with embarrassment at the rejection "Look, Levi.. it's just that I have done terrible things that you're not aware of. You don't want to be with me"
"Then tell me what terrible things you have done and let me be with you after your done" Levi said
"No, Levi you don't understand" tears pooled in her eyes, y/n didn't even remember the last time she had cry "I can't be with you"
"Why? Is it because of the terrible things you have done? Well guess what everybody has their own flaws, everybody in this world is an angel, at least until they get tired of the cruelty in it and let the demons take over" Levi grabbed her face between his hands, wiping the falling tears from her face "I want to be with you, wether you have let your demons take over or not"
Y/n felt the man lean in to place his lips to hers, they stayed pressed together without movement, before Levi pull away and kissed her again this time letting his emotions be known through the kiss.
Passion. Love. Care.
This is a moment in her life she would never forget not even when hers and the warriors mission is over.
Retaking of wall Maria
"I let you. I fucking let you in!"
Levi stood infront of her heartbroken, she told him, now he knew everything..
"Levi-" however she wasn't able to continue speaking since she received a kick right in the face making her fall on her side
She looked at Levi surprised, he had kicked her. Y/n knew she deserved, but it still hurt to have someone you loved hit you.
"You lied about everything didn't you? For what, to get information?" his voice was cracking slightly with each word he said "Was it necessary to use me for your stupid plans?"
"I didn't use you!, What I felt for you was real" y/n said defending her feelings
"I don't even know what is real about you anymore, is Y/n actually your name? Or is it just another lie?"
"It is my name.." she weakly murmured tasting blood in her tongue, she figured that her lip might have been split open from the impact
"Oh good to know"
Sarcasm tried to cover his hurt voice, which actually didn't work, since Y/n could clearly hear his shaky breath and it made her feel soo guilty.
"I hate you"
Those three little words were enough to make her world come crashing down, he hated her. Of course he did, it hurt so much but she had seen this coming, and she still didn't felt ready for it.
"I'm sorry, Levi"
That was all she said to him, before she was grabbed by a titan being controlled by Zeke, taking her away from the place where she meet someone who meant so much to her.
One thing that she was sure of was that
She will never forget Levi Ackerman.
Tumblr media
Screams, that was what was heard everywhere. Kids either with their parents or alone were running desperately trying to find shelter, and that broke Y/n's heart.
She was tired of all the fighting, she was tired of pretending to be stronger than she felt. For once she just wanted peace and happiness, something that she didn't quite have the past four years.
How did they got here? That was one of the many questions going through her head, but one that she paid more attention to was the most important
Was he here too?
"There you are, piece of shit."
That voice, it was him. It might have changed, but she could recognize it everywhere, the same voice who used to startle her everytime they saw each other, the voice that bought her comfort, the voice of the man she fell in love with.
It was Levi.
Slowly she proceeded to turn around, the fear for what might happen next running through her veins. She was ready to be killed by him.
Finally she look up and saw the same man she fell in love with, the only change that she saw was the uniform, apart from that he still seem like he had the same height as before and from the look on his face he still had the same temper.
"Nice uniform, I like it" she told him quietly not knowing what to say
Levi scoffed at her statement, taking his blade out. So he was going to kill her.
"You can go ahead and kill me, might as well add another ghost to haunt you"
Did she felt fear? Yes she did, but she wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of seeing it.
"Shut up" that was his response, before he connected his blade with her cheek leaving a long but not deep cut "You're going to come with me"
"I'm not going anywhere!"
The last thing he told her was that he hated her, why would he want her to come back to Paradise?, Was it to use her for information? Or because he missed her? It was stupid to think of the latter question, but she was still hopeful.
"I'm not asking, you brat"
That was the last thing she heard before he knocked her out.
"How could you be with a devil?!"
Her mom's scream hurt her eardrums, Zeke had told them about how she had been in a relationship with a so call devil. That seem like the only thing Zeke could do apart from throwing rocks, snitch.
"You were send there for a reason Y/n! No child of mine should've or should be with one of those devils!"
"Mother, I'm so sorry it's just that it would be easier for me to get the information about them that I wanted"
That was a lie. She loved Levi, even though she didn't get the chance to say it to him. She did, and that feeling wasn't going to go away anytime soon.
Her father stood next to her mother quietly looking at her with disgusts as if she was the trash people get rid of because of the smell, she hated that, it hurt to have your own parents hating on you.
"So what? For a piece of information, you had to go and whore yourself in there?"
Y/n gasped looking at her mom shocked "What? No mother, I didn't do anything like that with him!" she argue
That wasn't a lie, Levi was uncomfortable with sexual intercourse, since his own mother worked in a brothel and he had been the witness of how much that act hurt his mother, he had trusted her enough to tell her that.
"Good, you still have your purity." her mom nodded, before letting out a sigh "At least it wasn't with a women, you would've been completely kicked out of this house young lady"
"Now go take a shower, make sure to wash away every memory in that land while doing so." her mom smiled softly her hand reaching out to touch her cheek, before hugging her "My poor baby, having to live with those devils for so long. Don't worry you're home now, you're safe with us"
What once was her home didn't feel like home anymore, her house was just a place, her home was the person she left behind in Paradise.
Tumblr media
Y/n didn't remember how many days have passed or what was going on outside of her cell. She didn't know in what prison she was in, but just a few days ago it had seem like there was a whole damn war going on outside.
She hasn't seen Levi since he put her into the cell, and she was scared that something might have happened to him. She heard the door of the corridor open, Y/n stood up walking towards the bars to see who it was, it was Hange.
"Y/n" Hange nodded at her as if they were saying hi "He said your name, so we think it would be good if you saw him"
"Who are you talking about?" Y/n asking looking at them confused
"Levi"
Her heart immediately speed up, something happened to him. Her anxiety grew each passing second as she took step by step through the halls, Hange having a hold of her arm to make sure she didn't try to run away.
"What happened to him?" Y/n questioned scared for what the answer might be
"Explosion" was all they said, before entering a room that seems to be Levi's, there was only a nurse sitting in a chair probably just there just in case Levi needed something
"Thanks, you can stand outside. We would call if we need you" Hange told the nurse who nodded and walked out of the room, closing the door behind her, but not before throwing Y/n a look of disapproval about her being there.
Y/n ran to Levi's side as soon as the nurse was out, he had bandages in one side of his face, and on his hands. Tears started sliding down the young women's cheek while Hange looked at her with pity, but also cautiously not wanting her to do anything that might hurt Levi.
"Levi.." she whispered, even though
y/n felt bad about disturbing him from his sleep knowing how difficult it was for him to do so, she wanted to hear his voice, reassuring her that he was going to be ok "Everything it's going to be fine, right Hange? Tell him"
“Yeah, I agree with you y/n”
She didn't knew who she was trying to convince herself or Levi, but that didn't matter, because she felt a squeeze in one hand and immediately look down to see that Levi was the one holding it. Y/n look back up to his face seeing how his eye was open and he was staring directly at her.
Y/n smiled "Hey darling, you're okay now" she let out those word between sobs "— I'm sorry for everything Levi, for not telling you where I was really from, for letting you fall in love with me when I knew how it was going to bed. I'm so sorry for every misery that I have put you through"
Levi squeezed her hand again "- 's ok, I f—orgive you" his words came out has a whisper and he struggled to speak but she heard him clearly
Hange watched the scene playing out infront of them, they could see how much those two loved each other. They were like a puzzle, that could figure each other out, knowing each piece of themselves like the back of their hands.
It has been a month and a half exactly since Y/n had seen Levi in the bed witnessing how helpless he looked, she had never seen him like that and wasn't planning to anytime soon, since then she hadn't left his side.
He was currently touching her bare back leaving kisses down her neck, their naked chest pressed together, hot and sweaty.
"Levi..." she moaned softly
This was their first time being intimate, and she didn't want him to feel pressured into anything.
"I know what you're going to say, and I want to how much as you" he said before continuing marking her, claiming her as his
Each move of his hips against hers, reminded her of who she was with. The gentleness in his touch making her forget about the world around them. The softness of his lips against hers taking her breath away.
It wasn't just the pleasure that made Levi take the decision of doing this with her, this was his own way of showing how far he would go just to be with her, to come out of his comfort zone just to shower her with intimate kisses and touches that he and neither would she forget.
“I love you Levi”
Her skin was the canvas, and his lips was the brush painting each part of her body.
“I love you too...”
Tumblr media
“You will come back with us immediately young lady!" her mother said trying to remain calm infront of the devils
The rumbling was over, Eren Yeager was killed. Paradise and Marley were allies, but that doesn't mean they have forgiven each other for what each have done. Many Marleyans and Eldians from Marley came to visit out of curiosity, while people from Paradise went to explore the world (if we are talking about visiting the outside world and finding new things as much as possible), but they never want to visit Marley afraid that they might get turn into titans and angry for what those monsters have done to other people.
"I'am old enough to make my own decisions, mother" Y/n had answered, wanting to remain as calm as she could
"His manipulating you isn't he?"
"How dare you!—" Y/n yelled, before regaining her composure, her voice going back to calm but being loud and firm at the same time "I love him, he didn't manipulate me into anything. It's bold of you to assume that, mother"
"We're your family, your place it's with us!"
Some of the Military Police who were there scoffed along with some of the scouts, they have warmed up to Y/n already, but the Marleyans didn't seem to accept that one of themselves loved an Eldian, specially from Paradise.
"You're my family? Then where were you when I needed you the most?, All I needed when I returned to Marley four years ago was my mother!, The one who an illusion of my mind created, a sweet mom who would love me for being her child, and not see me as an object" Y/n couldn't remain calm anymore she needed to let everything out "— The time I spent with him, I got to truly know what comfort was, what being loved and being needed felt like! And you—" with tears in her eyes she turned to her father who was quiet, like he always was "You're so afraid of mom that you don't even dare to speak for yourself!, You did nothing to help your own daughter!, You just watched as she was raised to be something she didn't want to be!"
She spoke out her mind finally letting out those built up words that haunted her, needing to be said "— I thank you for everything though, despite not given me the love that I needed, your own choices took me to where we are now. Without those decisions, I wouldn't have met Levi so I thank you, for what you both did" she smiled at them
Her mom stood there quietly, before turning around and walking towards the door, her father following close behind "Don't bother returning home" was all her father said
"I won't"
She was already home, she was standing next to it. Holding his hand, Levi Ackerman was the safe place she will always and forever need.
Tumblr media
“— And they lived happily ever after”
Y/n closed the book, looking at the twins, her daughter and son who had fallen asleep half way through the story.
“Please tell me you didn't read to them the explicit parts”
The voice of her husband scared her and she turned to him, who stood by the door leaning into it.
“Of course not you idiot!”
She stood up turning off the lamp and given both of the children kisses on their head, before going out of the room with Levi.
“I still think we should publish this book” Y/n smirked, a mischievous look in her eyes
“Absolutely not”
Yeah, their Love Story had a happy ending after all.
Tumblr media
This was so much fun to write! I wrote 4k words and I'm proud of that! I feel like my writing has improved in the past few days, and this might be one of the works that will show it, and I hope future ones show the progress too! Also I want to punch y/n's mother in the face.
Thank you so much for reading, you can support my work by hitting reblog or liking! But don't repost to other platforms!

As long as we share the same moon, you’ll never be far away from me
ft. levi ackerman
genre: angst
cw: death, mention of death, grief, spoilers of no regrets (levi’s backstory summarised)
now playing: take me to church
a/n: hi, i hope you all are doing fine! after a long time i finally made it to post something again. have fun <3
A missing piece in his life took it all to ruin him completely. How long was he able to bear that? How long could he bear that?
Tumblr media
Four months, seven days.
At some point of life, it would always come to an end. There was no escape, no cheating, just the pure truth. Facing hell was never easy, not in this life. It was hard, almost unbearable. How much can a heart take until it breaks under the heavy weight of distress? How long does it take to lose strength and to finally capitulate? When every breath feels hard to take, when fear controls the mind. How long are you able to keep living?
He came out of hell and continued on the surface. Growing up in a dirty little room - a kid watching his mother losing the grip to life, trying to wake her up when it was already too late. Being saved by his uncle before he died of hunger, growing up with him until he was left alone again, at least knowing how to defend himself. Making two friends, living with them, learning how to survive in the underground. Getting a chance to join the Survey Corps, seeing for the first time in life the day light, feeling the fresh air and the warm sun on his skin. Going on the first battle, facing titans; kill, watching comrades die, finding his two dead friends, have been betrayed - hell continued. He was alone again. His life has never been easy. He stopped questioning himself what was the reason that he was even alive. Maybe there was no reason. Maybe it was his fate to be damned. But life continued, it doesn’t take any consideration. He continued watching his comrades die, he continued killing titans, he continued with shutting his emotions down. The longer it went, the harder it got. He never thought about happiness, he wouldn’t dare. Maybe it just should be like this and that’s what he had to accept, until this one day, that started to change his life completely.
You. A person, who was completely different than the others, walking through the hallway so confidently, giving a genuinely smile to everyone who crosses your way. A person, so beautiful in all ways, that it wasn’t even possible for a human being. And this was the moment, when everything felt different.
He never allowed himself to feel, he never allowed himself to love, to let his emotions free. But you showed him how it was possible to feel, how to perceive the different waves of emotions. With the one moment life suddenly felt as light as a feather. You let him see what life could actually be, what it could also feel like, bringing him the peace and comfort he ever needed.
It was dangerous, everyone of you had sat death right in front of you, but this didn’t seem important anymore. He knew this was wrong, he knew he shouldn’t be able to experience this luck and peace, but there was no way back anymore. You made his life better, you were the person who made him smile, you were the person who was there with him when his heavy emotions started to overflow him, when he completely broke down. He let you see him like this, he trusted you, he cared for you, his feelings for you started to grow more and more, with every second you both share together. You were his safe haven.
“Hey”, you whispered quietly, enjoying the feeling of being held by the person you love. “When this is all over..”. His eyes looked down, meeting yours and waiting for you to finish your sentence. “...I want a family with you”. You could see how his pupils started to grow wide, his mouth slowly opened, what made you smile. “I want to live with you for the rest of my life”. The words felt unreal, he never thought about life after the war, but with you it had to be the best life he could ever imagine. To look in your brightened eyes, knowing that the soft smile on your lips is just for him made his heart skip a beat. “I couldn’t imagine something better”. Maybe this time life was really fair. Maybe it was a mistake to believe in the good, but he wanted nothing more to be with you forever.
You both shared every second with each other and for the first time in his life he felt truly happy. Holding you in his arms, placing kisses all over your skin, worship your body, enjoying the time with you and feeling your warmth presence. But he knew it was just a matter of time, he knew that life wasn’t grateful to him, it never was. The realisation came fast.
His head hung down, carefully placing the flowers in front of the gravestone. “Here lies our beloved Y/N L/N”. He didn’t know how many times he read your name over and over again, but he did know that on some day it had come to this moment, because this is how life works. He wasn’t allowed to love, he wasn’t allowed to feel, he never was and he never will be. It was a mistake to think he had a chance of happiness. It was his fault, everything.
Your death was now four months ago and no day passed where he didn’t blame himself for everything. It was his fault that you died, because of him. Because he allowed himself to feel, because he loved and cared for you. That’s why you had to die. Because of him. It was everything because of him. And there he stands now, in front of your grave, staring at the bottom and let the silence overcome his thoughts, never forgetting the moment when he found you, holding your dead body in his arms and screaming your name to wake you up. Why did you have to die? You, his only hope, the only one who could light up his dark world. Everyone he cared, he loved was gone. Why was he so naive? He had to know better.
“I love you, Levi”. It was the last thing you said to him, before you both got separated. It was the last moment, when you glanced at him, with a confident smile. He couldn’t protect you. He failed, again. With you, he lost everything in his life. He was alone, again, as always.
A stoic gaze on his face, a heavy heart and a broken soul was all that was left. “I love you too”.

lets just talk about the levi squad and how they must've all ACTUALLY changed by the time it's almost s4
levi, who's just beginning to understand that he doesnt cause death everywhere he goes and is much easier to understand the feelings of, even if he still doesnt vocalize it. you can tell in the way his gazes arent as harsh anymore depending on the person, and how he brings armin tea that's actually supposed to help him sleep, or how he tries to make sure sasha's plate always has a little extra because he knows food makes her feel like she's at home. he hasnt changed much, but if you know him well, you notice the difference letting go has done.
hange, who's erratic nature has simmered down after moblit lost his life to save theirs. their best friend, commander, and nearly every scout gone. hange is quieter, and its noticable, but what's more noticable is how they desperately try to find something to remember their loved ones with in case they pass unexpectedly. any outside world technology yelena, niccolo, or onyakopon could provide. cameras, if they exist in aot. hange still gets extremely excited about studying titans, or testing an idea out, but it's not their main priority anymore. not without moblit.
historia dreams of her cadet days constantly. of giving sasha food and water after she's gotten into trouble, of eren being genuine with her and not trying to coddle her after what happened in s2, of punching levi and making both him and mikasa actually smile from that, of ymir. she understands her duties, and she loves her daughter, but she can't help but feel trapped in control when she didnt have control over anything in her life. she looks into her husband's eyes, but knows that as good as a guy he is, she just can't swing that way in more than business.
eren is self explanatory. he sees the future, he closes himself off and is stuck between enjoying what time he has left before the war takes over and he has to pass on his titan shifting, or escaping and finding a way out. he knows what happens now, but he didn't know whether lying was better than the looks he'd get if he admitted the truth. he's so tired.
armin doesnt sleep, not when he can help it. he's so caught up in this web of proving to himself that him being saved wasn't a mistake, that he needs to prove hes everything erwin said he was despite already being there. he knows his childhood dreams are true, but he also knows that when he saw that ocean, his childhood ended too. he doesn't know what to believe anymore, let alone who.
sasha, before she died, wondered if she was really the heart of the group like her friends probably said, or if she meant that much to people as eren claimed, or if she was just loud to assure others she was still there. to assure herself. she doesn't know whether she's a good person or not, but she's beginning to think that there's no good people, not even herself, and not even her friends.
connie tries not to change. he tries to continue being who he was as a trainee, as his early cadet days. but he knows that nothing he does will bring back 10-15 year old connie springer. he's scared, but no one needs to know that yet. he wants to at least give his friends one less person to worry about.
mikasa knows who she is, and she knows that holding a leash against her friends won't stop bad things from happening. she doesn't want to talk about the nightmares, or her own self doubt lingering at the back of her head. she wants to be strong, and she wants to trust that her friends will call for her when they need her. but why does it still feel so wrong to be alone?
jean wants to be dependable. he wants to give the impression that he's unbreakable, that he'll be someone who you can rely on fully without any doubt. marco....reiner...he doesn't want more regrets. he just wants to be ready, but being ready also includes being ready to lose everything you have. he isn't sure if he's the kind of person who could keep on going after that.

When MC first arrives at Devildom they warn Lucifer that the only way to keep them in line is by providing them with incentives, and that he will be wise to heed their warning because they tend to go a bit wild if not kept in check.
They warn Lucifer that punishments will not work, they will only accomplish the opposite because they will make MC want to retaliate. Out of curiosity Lucifer asks what kind of incentives; Grimm, food, clothes, jewels, merchandise, books, free passes from chores and other obligations, all things his brothers treasure.
MC responds with a simple shake of the head, they're much easier than that and with a small smile they reply.
"Gold Stars."
Lucifer intially believes they mean actual gold stars, he doesn't understand how that's any easier, in fact it seems very in line with what Mammon would ask for. He's about to call them insane but MC notices the look of disbelief on his face, their add on comes in late.
"Stickers, I mean." MC clarifies.
"What?" Lucifer asks.
"Gold star stickers. It's how my friends and loved ones get me to behave." MC explains. "I get a gold sticker for every time I do something good or helpful, and an even bigger sticker for whenever I hold back on doing something impulsive or 'dumb'." They continue to explain. "The small stars are worth 1 point and the big ones are worth 3."
"You're kidding, MC." Lucifer deadpans. "Isn't this what a teacher would use on a child?"
"I'm really not, it works on me too. I need consistency and to feel like I'm working up towards something rewarding in order to actual do anything."
"Rewarding, how?"
"I'm glad you asked. Remember how I said that the normal stars are worth 1 point and the big ones worth 3? Well, by the end of the week if I've acquired at least 30 to 40 I get treated to an ice cream sundae on Sunday, I can only get 5 small stars per day with the exception of a big star every now and then. If I go over 30 or 40 I get extra toppings."
"That seems oddly simple." Lucifer states still looking MC up and down quizzically.
"It is!" MC exclaims pulling out a chart from behind their back. A chart large enough to fit multiple stickers on it, the chart is divided into six sections: Monday through Saturday. "Here." They hand him the chart. "You're in charge of stickers."
Dumbfounded, Lucifer takes the chart sheet in his hands. He has the passing thought 'if only my brothers were this easy.' Before dismissing it completely, knowing that there are easier things wished for.
"This will ensure you behave?" He asks once more for clarification.
MC only simply nods.
"You put it up there." MC continued pointing to the refrigerator. "so that everyone sees and I feel a sense of accomplishment."
"Are you sure you want it up there?" He asks tiredly. "Won't the others tease you?"
"Yeah, probably." MC answers matter o factly. "But you won't be buying them a fancy Sundae at the end of the week, or will you?"
"So, now I'm the one buying you ice cream? When did we agree to this?"
"I mean... I thought that was implied by you being my assigned sticker giver. Besides it's a small price to pay for my good behavior, don't you think?"
"Are you threatening me?" He asks looking up at them with a quirked eyebrow, even if so it's not like they're asking for much. He wishes his brothers asked only for the same to ensure their well behavior... but unfortunately life is not that easy.
"No." They answer with such genuinety that he almost thinks they're messing with him. "I'm just trying to make life easier for the both of us; the idea is to ease me into a new environment and eventually I won't need the stars anymore to ensure I behave. If I don't maintain consistency I let my environments shape me and that's not always a good thing but like this I keep myself in line regardless of my new environment."
"Very well, all be it for my peace of mind." Lucifer sighs pinning up the laminated sheet on the fridge.
At first the brothers do tease MC about it, but MC doesn't really seem to care all that much as they do their chores happily with the promise of ice cream in mind. Eventually the teasing stops, after all, how fun is it to tease someone who doesn't really care?
But it starts with Beel noticing, MC gets treated to a sundae from Madam Screams every Sunday that leaves him watering at the mouth. Well, now Beel wants in on the action. He asks Lucifer to do the same for him.
Lucifer doesn't really care, Beel is probably one of the most well behaved of his brothers save for when he goes on his hunger rampages or acts out because of food. He doesn't think much and accepts to do the same for Beel upon his request.
Now it's not just MC and Lucifer going out very Sunday to Madam Screams but also Beel and the fact that they're all going out in a group makes it feel somewhat exclusive... that mixed with the fact that MC has to separate from Mammon every Sundaybto go pick up their Sundae and we all know how much Mammon hates being apart from MC add into Mammon demanding that Lucifer do that same for him.
Things have just become interesting. Mammon is the brother that needs this the most in Lucifer's eyes but he doubts his brother can completely behave, regardless he doesn't stop his brother from trying after all it's to his own benefit (Lucifer's) maybe now he'll be able to get some more work and rest in.
Well the said is done, it doesn't completely work but he has noticed Mammon behaving a lot more than he usually did. Not to add that he's gotten competitive with the other two about who can earn more toppings on their sundae than the rest... even if he ends up losing every time.
Asmo is the third to fall into the trend. After all, a Sundae by Lucifer's treat and by side MC!? What could possibly be better!? Besides the game looks really fun, and now Asmo is eager to join in on the fun.
It's not like Asmo is ill behaved or boisterous in any way, so he doesn't have to make much of an effort but some times he will slip up and it's only then that he makes an effort.
Levi is the fourth to fall into this game. As always it's his envy that causes him to get involved in MC's and his brothers game, and who can blame him? I mean who likes feeling left out, right?
The following Monday during dinner he starts to pout and complain about how he isn't being included in the most indirect round about way.
"After all what did I expect, it's not like you guys would include me in your game..."
"It's not a game Levi, MC and the others have to earn their ice-cream." Lucifer clarifies putting down his eating utensils.
"You don't have to lie to me, Lucifer." Levi pouts. "Its not like I want to be included in that normie game you guys are playing anyway!"
Lucifer lets out a tired breath as he asks himself whether he really wants to deal with this right now... well, the answer is that he doesn't but he isn't going to leave his brother sulking about not being included, after all, it'll only get worse the longer he leaves him sulking.
And just like that Levi's in.
Those left are Satan and Belphegor and, of course, he doesn't expect either to willingly participate. I mean they won't obey him or behave on a regular basis, in fact it's the complete opposite; they usually go out of their way to make his life harder, so why would they participate in a game that requires them to do something that is supposed to make his life easier?
He won't bother with them, after all, he's far too busy with the work he has from Diavolo as of lately.
But then Satan surprises him by announcing that he to will join this game. Of course, Lucifer is suspicious of Satan's intentions after all why would he willingly chose to make Lucifer's life much easier?
Satan claims he just wants to feel involved, and since everyone is already doing it he might as well too.
Lucifer's on guard with Satan, he's trying to figure out what he's scheming but Satan genuinely seems to be doing what he should.
Still, Lucifer can't help but check his drawers and closet when he finds Satan leaving his room after having claimed that he was only sorting the clean laundry to its appropriate places, and he can't help not double checking his drinks, or looking over his things when Satan brings them to him.
Satan is behaving and he takes pleasure in how uneasy that makes Lucifer. The look on Lucider's face whenever Satan does something good or helpful with a smile and nothing more is priceless. Of course, it's not like Satan is going to let Lucifer get to comfortable. If Lucifer does get too comfortable Satan won't have any trouble playing a small and subtle prank on Lucifer to keep him on his toes.
Not to add that Satan does cheat regularly when participating in the game, usually playing Mammon out of his points or taking credit for his work, or using Mammon in order to enact his pranks on Lucifer so they won't get traced back to him... yep, poor Mammon.
Lastly, is Belphie. He shows the most resistance to the game, it takes to much energy and effort neither of which he cares to spare on a silly game.
But as much as he hates to admit it. He hates waking up to an empty house on Sunday; there's no Beel or MC to greet him and the fact that everyone else is also playing along with the game makes him feel excluded. It's not bad enough that he was locked up in the attic for the longest time and only came back after all the other brothers had already formed bonds with MC but even now they get to spend more time with them all because of that dumb game.
So in the end, as reluctant as he might be he announces in the most nonchalant and anticlimactic way that he too will participate in the dumb game.
Much like Satan, he'll either mooch of Mammon's points or use Mammon to get out of trouble for certain things. He'll petition Lucifer about being able to share points with either Beel or MC because that chore was a "combined effort".
In the end all the brothers end up participating, it doesn't 100% solve the occasional behavioral problems and shenanigans that occur within the house of lamentation but it does help placate them if even by a small percentage.
And it's only when he gets to sit down and breathe after a long day of paperwork and meetings that Lucifer notices what a good influence MC has been on his brothers.
Of course, by this point MC no longer needs the gold star sticker system to keep in line but at this point they don't have the heart to end the game... not when everyone has come to have fun with it so much.

♥ 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘬𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘯 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 ♥
Tumblr media
such a cute request! i was going to do only levi at first, but i couldn’t help but do the rest of the brothers because of how adorable your request is. thank you so much, and i hope this hc cheers you up extra ! ♡
✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
♡ 𝘭𝘶𝘤𝘪𝘧𝘦𝘳
✧   Your first kiss with Lucifer is explosive.
✧   Lucifer is hard to pin down. Constantly, infuriatingly, he seems to conveniently miss your attempts to make things official. You know that the romantic tension between the both of you could be cut with a knife, but Lucifer proves too prideful and stubborn to let you have what you want. It’s as if he’s having his fun making you chase him or deciding when you get your way.
✧   The study was quiet, the dusk fading behind the stained glass windows, and you had finally caught another moment alone with Lucifer. He takes off his gloves and smiles at you. “It’s late. You should be preparing for bed.”
“Enough,” you mutter, pressing yourself against his front. You had had enough of his games, of him thinking that he gets to decide when you make your move, as if the relationship between the both of you was nothing more than a chess game.
“Excuse me?” Lucifer asks, crimson eyes alight with amusement and a fire that you’ve never seen before. You find yourself cornered with your back against his desk, almost pinned in place by that gaze. He rests a hand on your waist almost expectantly.
“Enough of your excuses, Lucifer.” The kiss you pull him into by his collar is fiery. Immediately, both of Lucifer’s hands grip your waist to pull you close, his lips deepening the kiss with an almost frightening intensity. The facade he had put up crumbles immediately; he’s waited for this for too long, he’s wanted you for even longer. The control he clings to like a lifeline relaxes, and it almost seems as if he lets you take charge this time, as if you’ve proven yourself worthy.
And there are no more excuses from him.

✧   Neither of you expect your first kiss with Mammon. It’s an impulsive decision, easily the best one you have ever made.
✧   Mammon doesn’t tiptoe around the issue, and it’s clear that he fully expects himself to be your man. However, it isn’t easy for him to fill the role when he thinks consciously about it, getting flustered the moment he thinks too hard about the affection you give him— it’s insanely endearing. You just wish something could give him that push to really pursue you.
✧   “Unbelievable! The way that jerk thinks he can talk to ya!” Mammon’s chattering is incessant, still obviously incensed about the way other demons had treated you earlier. Diavolo’s transfer student idea was genius, but it would take more than a couple of humans and angels to convince most demons to treat them with respect.
“Well, The Great Mammon was there to save me, at least.” You smile, wrapping your arm around his.
Mammon laughs proudly. “Damn right! Maybe you should give me a little reward for it, hm?”
“You’re the one who’s supposed to give the people he likes free money,” You poke at him, but can’t help but admire the way his eyes shine with triumph, and the way his grin is just so goofy and handsome. Thoughtlessly, you lean in until your noses nearly touch. “But I think I can do that.”
His cheeks flush red, but before he can stutter something out, he closes the distance between you with an eager smile. His lips are greedy, claiming yours as he throws an arm around your shoulders to show everyone around you just who you belong with.

✧   Your first kiss with Leviathan makes his heart nearly collapse whenever he thinks about it.
✧   There was always that barrier between you and Levi; being the embodiment of envy makes him unintentionally drive you away when you want nothing more than to show him that he is just as good as those he envies. His skittishness around topics of romance and physical affection is the sweetest thing, but you wonder if either of you would ever be brave enough to take the leap.
✧   “Look at them,” Levi laments, and you cross your arms, knowing what was about to happen. It was fairly easy to predict when he would start his pity parties, especially after the two of you had begun to grow closer. You had suggested watching something together to de-stress after a long day at RAD, but maybe the rom-com you had chosen wasn’t the best idea.
“They’re… holding hands,” you say blankly.
“Yeah! It’s not fair, he’s such a shitty nerd but the hot girl likes him anyway, it’s not realistic! That never happens in-”
You hold his hand. He goes quiet.
Levi huffs, a soft blush spreading across his face. Under the blankets, his leg starts to jiggle out of nervousness as he looks away. “Okay, now- now you’re just making fun of me. But seriously, they’re kissing! That kind of stuff doesn’t just happen to nerds.”
“Why not?” You smile at him, leaning into his side as you continue holding his hand. Sometimes you wished he could see himself like you see him, or feel the way his antics and his smile makes your heart instantly melt. Stifling a laugh, you watch as his blush grows and his Adam's apple bobs as he swallows nervously. “Some people like that.”
“But who would like a-” The rest of his complaint is muffled as you close the distance between your lips and his, throwing your arms around the back of his neck. You wouldn’t want to hear it anyway. Too stunned to fight it, Levi is still for a moment, before he starts smiling into the kiss and running a hand through your hair. He’s crushed on you for too long to let his shyness hold himself back this time.

✧   Your first kiss with Satan is possessive and pyre-like.
✧   Satan has a thousand facades— but you see through them all. He certainly has never met someone like you, a mere human with more audacity than most demons. That audacity to touch him and get close to him is what makes you so attractive to Satan. You see him for what he is beyond his rage, and he can’t handle the thought of letting anyone get as enamoured with you as he is. He wants you to be his.
✧   You watch Satan with gentle eyes as he talks. Moments where he puts the masks away are rare but consistent when he’s with you, and you hold his hands as he talks to you about everything that’s on his mind. The smile he gives you is enough to make your heart sing.
“Ah, but I’m talking too much, aren’t I?” He gives your hands a squeeze, bringing them both up to kiss your knuckles gently.
“I like it,” you say quietly. “You aren’t like this with anyone else.”
“What can I say? There’s just something about you…” Satan chuckles, making your cheeks flush pink. He’s enamoured, charmed, devoted, so much so that he can hardly find the words to describe his feelings toward you, and your sweet blush makes him lean forward to gently grasp your chin between his fingers. “Are you… like this with anyone else, ______?”
You lean into his touch with a smile. “Only you.”
Barely a moment passes before his lips are on yours, pulling you into him like the undertow of a rough sea. Satan devotes himself to containing his emotions, his devastating wrath and desires, but with you… he allows himself to show who he truly is. And with the way you do nothing but kiss back just as hard and clutch at the front of his shirt, he knows you can handle it.
♡ 𝘢𝘴𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘶𝘴
✧   Your first kiss with Asmodeus makes your heart ache like nothing ever has.
✧   It’s all too easy to worry when you start falling for Asmodeus. With the way he acts around other demons and the succubi he’s so popular with, there’s hardly a reason to think that you would be special to him in any way. It frustrates him when he tries to prove time and time again how genuine his feelings are towards you, but you simply never seem to get the point. He wants you. He wants to be with you and can hardly bother looking at anyone else, he just wishes you could see that.
✧   “You’re always so gorgeous, you know that?” Asmo threads a gentle hand through your hair, brushing locks away from your face as you smile at him skeptically, brow cocked. It wouldn’t surprise you if he was sucking up simply because he needed your help with something.
“Alright, you can stop with the flattery. What do you want?”
Asmo giggles and wraps his arms around you. The familiar scent of his perfume and the warmth of his embrace still makes your heart race, no matter how many times you’ve told your heart to stop reacting that way every time he pulls you close. “Just you.”
“How many witches have you used that line on today?”
“If I wanted a witch,” You feel Asmodeus kiss your head and rub your back tenderly, and all you can do is gaze up at him through your lashes as his voice softens, his bright amber eyes giving you such a deeply yearning gaze. “I would go to one. I want you, ______, is that so hard to believe? I don’t want to look at or touch anyone else anymore.”
When he leans in, you don’t have it in you to resist. His soft lips fit perfectly against yours, as if the two of you were meant to be from the beginning, and your heart aches.
♡ 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘻𝘦𝘣𝘶𝘣
✧   It feels like it was just meant to be; your first kiss with Beelzebub feels as natural as breathing.
✧   Beelzebub has always been the brother you felt the most comfortable around, and the two of you seem to just fall into a routine as you get closer. You don’t need him to say the unspoken feelings between the both of you to know how much he cares for you. Beel says it enough in the way he always wraps an arm around your shoulders, or gives you a slice of his favourite cake during dinner, or lets you lean on him during movie night.
✧   “______… It needs more sugar,” Beel mumbles as he licks some cookie batter off his finger. You had enlisted his help with baking since Luke had shared an easy recipe for the human world cookies you were craving, but you’re beginning to think it had been a mistake.
But you’re weak, and it’s all worth it to be able to watch Beel adorably taste the batter whenever he can.
“You’re going to get a tummy ache.” Smiling, you come over to take the mixing bowl from him.
“No way,” Beel mumbles. He pats his stomach with the sweetest smile. “Iron stomach.”
“It didn’t save you when you ate Solomon’s cooking, did it?” You can’t help but tiptoe to ruffle his hair, before offering him a bottle of cocoa powder and a silver sieve. “Wanna help me with the cocoa? And then we’re all done!”
“Of course. Anything for you.” Beel takes the items and leans down, and before you can think about it, you lean up to give him a sweet kiss in thanks for his help. Beel hesitates in pulling away for a moment, only to return to leaning down to give you kiss after kiss, and you can’t help but let out a giggle. Maybe he’s finally found something other than food to be obsessed with.
♡ 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘩𝘦𝘨𝘰𝘳
✧   The way Belphegor first kisses you is magnetic, the slow kind of kiss that makes time slow and your mind drift. As far as you’re concerned, the world around you might as well not exist.
✧   There is hardly a spark between you. Belphegor’s feelings for you start as a slow burning candle flame that ends in a wildfire. The both of you give yourselves time to heal and time to understand each other. You spend your days apart before you drift back to each other, until it’s hard for the both of you to contain your feelings. Belphie’s feelings for you consume him, and he struggles to find the right time to reveal them to you.
✧   You throw your leg over Belphie’s hip with a sleepy smile as you snuggle into the sheets with him. He returns the smile in an equally sleepy but adoring fashion, fingers slowly tracing patterns into your back.
“Clingy,” he mumbles, as if he isn’t the one with his arms wrapped firmly around you.
You mumble, “You’re so warm, I can’t help it. Maybe I should just stay like this forever.”
“Fine by me, ______.” Belphie chuckles teasingly. “Just know that I’m never ever going to let you get up again.”
“Yeah? I think that sounds like heaven.” Your joke makes Belphie laugh, and in the quietness of his room, he leans in to press a gentle kiss to your lips. It starts as an innocent brush of his lips against yours, but you’re quick to press your lips against his firmly. The way his legs tangle into yours and the way he kisses you like you’re the only thing keeping him breathing makes you forget the world around you. Belphie keeps you like that, refusing to let you go.

Petra was a nice girl. Truth be told, she was very nice. Delicate and petite, soft-spoken and graceful, Levi felt like he could have easily fallen in love with her.
However, she had one small, but very significant flaw – Kenny was the one who had set them up on a date. Even if Levi liked her, even if she definitely seemed like his type, he refused to have a second date. Maybe, she was nice and pretty, but Levi couldn’t shake the feeling that introducing them to one another was one of Kenny’s numerous schemes, that his uncle once again tried to somehow make a fool out of him.
“Why don’t you find yourself someone, Levi?” Kenny would always ask him. “Maybe, some pretty girl will finally make that ugly scowl of yours disappear! And if you find someone rich and influential, it would even elevate your status!”
“Yeah, great advice,” Levi would always sneer back. “From a lifelong bachelor.”
Sitting in a small café next to Petra, listening to her talk about her work, Levi couldn’t stop imagining the moment, when he would return from his date and tell Kenny to just fuck off already and leave him, and more importantly, his personal life alone.
On his way back to the office he thought of dozens different curses and obscenities to yell at his uncle. But the moment he crossed the threshold to his cabinet, the moment he met his mother’s hopeful gaze, Levi’s anger momentarily disappeared.
“How was your date, honey?” she asked with a smile.
Looking at that smile, Levi felt like the biggest asshole in the world. Unlike Kenny, his mother genuinely worried about him. She feared that he was feeling lonely and she wanted for him to find someone, to fall in love and be happy.
And even though, Levi didn’t feel lonely at all, the thought of disappointing his mother, of worrying her, made Levi regret his actions. Maybe, he shouldn’t have rejected Petra? Maybe, he should have agreed to a second date? Maybe, he should at least try to fall in love?
But no, Levi thought. If he started to date Petra, or any of the other girls Kenny had tried to set him up with, he would admit that his uncle was right. There was no way Levi could ever do that. And, besides, he didn’t have time for a relationship. As a vice-president of Kenny’s company, Levi was a very busy man. Especially, since his uncle liked to damp all the work on him. So no, relationship definitely wasn’t for him.
“It was fine, but there wouldn’t be a second date,” Levi finally replied.
Kuchel’s expression immediately changed. Her eyes filled with sadness and the corners of her mouth slid down.
“Why?” she asked quietly. “You didn’t like that girl?”
There wasn’t nothing wrong with her, relationships just aren’t my thing, Levi almost said. But he knew that those words would upset his mother even more. Suddenly, an idea popped up in his mind. It was stupid, completely ridiculous, but. It could work. And it certainly would make his mother happy. So before he could stop himself, Levi said:
“There wasn’t nothing wrong with that girl, mom. I’m just already dating someone else.”
“Oh?” Kuchel was definitely surprised by this revelation, but she quickly overcame her shock. A big, happy smile appeared on her lips and she clasped her hands in delight. “Levi, really? You found someone? Why didn’t you tell us before?”
“I didn’t want to jinx it,” he lowered his head, trying to avoid his mother’s gaze. He felt like a jerk for lying to her, but seeing her joy, Levi almost felt like it was worth it.
“Honey, I want to meet them so much! Can you invite them over for dinner? I’m sure uncle Kenny wants to meet your significant other as well!”
Shit, Levi immediately wanted to take his words back. But it was too late. So he nodded, hoping that his mother would mistake his panic for shyness. “I don’t know if she’ll agree, but I’ll try.”
“Great!” Levi didn’t remember the last time when his mother smiled so widely. “Then I’ll start organizing the dinner right away! Oh, I’m so happy, Levi!” she soundly kissed him on a cheek and then, still smiling happily, she left his office.
As soon as the door closed after her, Levi shakily exhaled. What kind of a mess he just got himself into?
He went to his desk and turned on his computer, opening the craiglist. It was possible to find any kind of weird shit there. And weird shit was exactly what Levi needed.
Almost an hour later, when Levi’s eyes started to burn from the amount of stupid ads he had read, he found it. The perfect ad, which was weirdly offering exactly what Levi needed.
Do you have homophobic or otherwise annoying relatives? Are they inviting you to yet another family event, and so you desperately want to piss them off? Then I’m just the person you need ;)
After reading that description, Levi clicked on the ad without hesitation.
Hi, I’m Hange Zoe, and I have an incredible offer for those of you, who are tired of your irritating relatives! Just for a small fee, I can accompany you to any kind of event (weddings, birthdays, various holidays) and make sure to annoy the hell out of your family! If you dislike your parents, aunts, uncles or anyone else and want them to hate you, then don’t hesitate! Call me and I’ll be your ‘plus one’ that they will never forget!
Levi immediately added their number to his phone. However, before he dialed it, he hesitated, rereading the ad one more time. Was he really going to do it, he wondered, as he stared at the screen. Was he going to call some stranger and ask them to pretend to be his girlfriend? Just because he wanted Kenny to leave him alone? Just because he didn’t want to upset his mother?
Yes, Levi decided finally. No matter how ridiculous it sounded, it was a good plan. He’d pretend to be in love with this girl for a month or so, and then he would ‘break up’ with her. He’d feign a heart-break, act sad and depressed, and everyone would leave him alone. Not for long, Levi knew that, but just enough for him to catch a break.
It is a good plan, Levi reminded himself before taking a deep breath and dialing that number.
After long five beeps, his call was answered.
“Hello?” a deep woman’s voice said. It was husky and confused, although its owner had just woken up. Levi glanced up at a clock – it was 4pm. She couldn’t really be sleeping at this time of day, right? “I’m sorry, but do I know you?”
“Um, no, I… I’ve found your ad. O-on the internet,” damn it, Levi had never felt so embarrassed before.
“Oh, right!” the woman laughed. “You need me to pretend to be your girlfriend, huh?”
“Something like that, yes, but could we discuss the details in person?”
“Sure! I’m free this evening, so we can meet,” she said. “Where do you live?”
“Just text me the address of some coffee shop near your house. I’ll be there in an hour.”
“Alright! And how do I recognize you?”
“I’ll be wearing a black shirt and pants.”
“Great!” the woman chuckled again. “Then I’ll see you in an hour!”
And before Levi could say anything else, she ended the call.
He stared at his phone screen for a long moment. Not for the first time he wondered what the fuck he was doing. But then he received a message, containing the address of a coffee shop. Signing, Levi shook his head. It was a stupid idea, but it could work. He just had to remember that.
 ***
Levi was sitting in that stupid café for almost half an hour. He had finished two cups of tea already. Maybe, he entered the wrong café? He checked his phone for the tenth time, but, no, the address was definitely correct. So where the fuck was that shithead, who had agreed to meet with him?
Another ten minutes passed, and Levi already prepared to just get up and leave, but then somebody joined him at his table. It was a young woman, probably in her mid-twenties. Her brown hair was pulled up in a messy ponytail and her big glasses were almost slipping from her nose. So that was Hange Zoe? Levi would need to pretend to date that for a whole month?
Suddenly, his idea didn’t seem so good anymore.
“Hi!” the woman energetically waved her hand. “You’re the guy, who is looking for a fake girlfriend, right? I’m Hange Zoe,” she outstretched her palm towards him.
“I know your name,” Levi said, staring at her hand with slight disgust. There were black smudges on it. He would rather die than shake it. “You’ve included it in the ad.”
“Oh, right!” she laughed boisterously. Levi felt a headache forming. “And what is your name?”
“Levi Ackerman,” he answered, making no move to shake her hand.
The woman hummed and lowered her hand, seemingly undisturbed by his apparent rudeness. “It’s nice to meet you, Levi!” she smiled widely. Was she always so annoyingly friendly, Levi wondered. “So what kind of event do you need me for? Wedding, birthday or—”
“Nothing of the sort,” he interrupted. “Truth be told, I have a rather unorthodox situation.”
“Oh?” Hange raised an eyebrow. “Do you need me to accompany you to the funeral or—”
“No!” Levi immediately answered. “Fuck, of course, no. I…” he took a deep breath, thinking how to say it. Maybe, he should explain everything first. “My uncle always sets me up with people, and I’m sick of it. I can’t just tell him to fuck off, because it’ll upset my mother, so… I want you to pretend to be my girlfriend for a month. It won’t require a lot of work!” Levi assured her. “Every Friday we have family dinner, and you’ll just have to come there with me.”
“And that’s all?”
“Um, no…” Levi paused. “I also need you… to move in with me…”
“What?!” Hange cried out, obviously shocked.
“I know how it sounds! But I promise I’m not some kind of a weirdo,” although, that was still open for a debate. He was asking a stranger to be his girlfriend, after all. “My uncle is just very nosy. And he won’t believe that my relationship is serious, if I don’t start living with you. We won’t be sharing a room or anything of the sort!” Levi added, seeing hesitation on her face. “And I’ll pay you as much you want!”
“I’m…” Hange trailed off, picking at her fingernails. “I admit your offer does sound a little bit weird. I’m willing to agree to it, but I need to talk with my roommate first. We share the rent, and if I’m not going to pay my part for a whole month…”
“I’ll pay your part!” Levi hastily offered. “And your roommate’s part as well!”
“Wow,” Hange chuckled. “You’re either crazy rich or really desperate.”
“I’m both,” Levi sighed.
“Fine, I agree then,” Levi couldn’t believe how relieved those words made him. “But I do have to warn you – I’m a scientist and tend to work at odd hours.”
“I don’t care about that,” Levi was suffering from insomnia himself, so a little noise at night wouldn’t disturb him.
“Alright…” Hange trailed off with a hesitant look on her face. “But there is another thing. My laboratory exploded a couple of months ago, that’s why I posted that ad – I’m trying to gather some money for a new one. So sometimes I perform experiments at home. Nothing dangerous!” she quickly assured Levi. “There won’t be any explosions, I swear! And no toxic chemicals too! Most days, I’m just watching my two mice, and I won’t be dissecting them in any foreseeable future, but yeah… I still need to study them.”
“It’s fine,” Levi waved his hand. Of course, he would have preferred to pretend to date someone more ordinary, but it wasn’t like he had a lot of choices. “As long as you don’t destroy my apartment, I don’t care what you do.”
“Excellent!” Hange beamed. “And the last thing,” Christ, there was another thing? “My roommate is also my lab partner, so can he sometimes come to visit me? To help with my experiments?”
“Alright,” Levi sighed. “But that’s everything you need, right?”
“Of course! And all I have to do is to live in your apartment and come with you to family dinner each Friday?”
“Pretty much.”
“Then that’s a deal!”
“Great,” Levi wasn’t feeling as happy as his ‘girlfriend’, but he, too, was satisfied with their arrangement. “If we discussed everything, then I must go. I’ll text you my address later. You can bring your things tomorrow.”
“Cool! Then I’ll see you tomorrow!”
  ***
The next morning, Levi’s breakfast was interrupted by a very loud, and very insisting knocking.
And there goes my hope for a peaceful day, he mentally complained.
He walked up the door and looked in the peephole. At the other side, he saw a large box.
“It’s me, Hange!” the box exclaimed.
Levi sighed. He almost forgot that she agreed to bring her things today. He opened the door, and Hange walked in, a man, who carried an even bigger box, trailing after her.
“Good morning!” she was as cheerful as yesterday. Levi feared it was her constant state. “I hope you don’t mind that I brought my friend Moblit? He’s the roommate I told you about.”
“Nice to meet you,” the man put the box down and smiled at Levi.
He absentmindedly nodded, not sparing that Moblit another glance. He had no interest in meeting Hange’s friends. They weren’t actually dating.
“How much shit did you bring with you?” he asked Hange.
“There are two more boxes in the car,” Moblit answered for her.
“Alright,” Levi nodded. “Then start unpacking all of your stuff, your room is at the end of that hallway,” he pointed in that direction. “I’ll bring the rest with your friend.”
“Great, thank you, baby!” Hange said cheekily. She winked at Levi, before turning around and beginning to inspect his apartment.
Levi stared after her for a moment. His plan was starting to look worse and worse with each passing minute.
  ***
“So, you’re not some kind of a murderer, right?” Moblit asked, while they were climbing the stairs, each of them carrying a box with Hange’s belongings.
“I’m not, don’t worry.”
“Oh, that’s good!” Moblit chuckled in relief. “Although, I do have to warn you – sometimes Hange gets too… intense.”
“Yeah, no shit,” Levi rolled his eyes. It was hard to miss that part of his ‘girlfriend’s’ personality.
  ***
“So,” Hange asked after she finished unpacking and said goodbye to Moblit. “What do I do now? Do I just sit around or do you need me for something?”
“Now, you’re going to show me your wardrobe. If you’re going to be my girlfriend, you’ll need something more presentable that this,” Levi’s eyes were filled with disgust, as he looked at Hange’s oversized t-shirt and her dirty, torn jeans.
“Mm, if you’re hoping to find something better,” Hange chuckled. “Then I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed.”
Levi cursed under his breath. His new girlfriend was proving to be much more troublesome than he expected. “Get ready then. We’ll go shopping. I can’t let you walk around, wearing such trash.”
Shopping with Hange was even more difficult than Levi expected. As though trying to annoy him, in each shop Hange picked the ugliest, most outrageous outfits she could find. Levi couldn’t quite understand if she just wanted to irritate him, or did she actually like those clothes. Somehow, he felt like the latter was true.
In the end, after browsing through ten different shops, Levi managed to buy Hange a couple of normal jeans, a few shirts and hoodies. He also picked a few suits for her, because Levi quickly understood that dresses and skirts weren’t Hange’s thing. It didn’t really matter for him, though. He was fine with whatever she decided to wear, as long as it was clean and her outfits didn’t look like a blind person had chosen them.
  ***
After that first day, however, Levi’s life had almost returned to normal. Sure, Hange was still living with him and occasionally he heard her mutterings or the sounds of her computer, but for the most part, she kept to her word. She was always busy with some work and didn’t bother Levi much.
The only place, where their paths crossed, was the kitchen. Levi would often see Hange, sitting on a countertop with a notebook in her hands, scribbling something down, while she waited for her coffee. Sometimes, they spend their breakfast together. And a couple of nights, when his insomnia acted up, Levi even invited Hange to share a cup of tea with him.
Unexpectedly, Hange wasn’t quite as annoying as Levi first thought. Sure, sometimes she talked a little too much, but Levi quickly learnt that she didn’t really need for him to participate in those conversations. She just liked to talk, especially about her work, and she didn’t expect any kind of an answer. And, truth be told, her blabbering had a strangely soothing effect on Levi.
He was surprised to realize that living with another person wasn’t that terrible.
Maybe, Levi thought fleetingly, he could even get used to it.
The whole week was spent in that manner, as Levi and Hange learnt how to co-exist together, getting to know each other better one day at a time.
But Friday was approaching, and so was the Ackerman family dinner. And neither Kuchel, nor Kenny let Levi forget about that.
His mother called him every day, asking what food Hange preferred and making sure that Levi hadn’t changed his mind about introducing his girlfriend to them.
Kenny smirked every time he saw Levi in the hallways of their company. He patted his shoulder and reminded him that if his girlfriend wasn’t actually real, now was the best time to reveal it.
Naturally, it pissed Levi off. Not that Kenny was that far from truth, but really? Could he have some faith in his nephew?
  ***
Friday came much faster than Levi expected. Before long, he found himself sitting in a car, dressed in his favorite blue suit. Hange was sitting beside him, wearing a dark green pants and white shirt that Levi had bought for her earlier.
She didn’t seem nervous in the slightest. Levi envied her.
“I think it’s time for us to talk strategies,” she said, as Levi began driving.
“Huh?”
“Well, we have to think of a legend. Our first meeting, our first date, when we realized we’ve fallen in love,” Hange waved her hands around. “That kind of thing.”
“Oh,” Levi didn’t think about it.
And judging by Hange’s mischievous gaze, she saw right through him. “Jeez, you’re lucky to have me. So I’ve been thinking about our first meeting, and we can tell that we’ve met, when my car broke down. I needed help, and you, as true gentlemen, offered to fix it.”
“I don’t think my family would believe this whole ‘true gentlemen’ crap,” Levi grumbled, earning a soft chuckle from Hange. “But alright, what happened next?”
“Well, naturally I decided to invite you to dinner to express my gratitude.”
“But I’ve refused?”
“Yes, you refused!” Hange threw her hands in the air, so scandalized, as though it actually happened. “But, luckily, I’m very stubborn, so I literally followed you, until you agreed to go out with me.”
Levi almost smiled. He could quite clearly picture that. “And then you’ve begged me to give you my phone number.”
“I didn’t beg,” Hange protested. “It was more like I forced you to give it to me.”
“And then you’ve started texting me practically non-stop,” Hange definitely seemed like a person, who would do that. “So I had no choice, but to agree to a second date.” “Mm, yeah. We started going out and on our fourth date, you literally couldn’t resist my dashing looks anymore, so you kissed me, whispering how much you love me right into my lips.”
Levi gave her the most unimpressed of his looks. Hange burst out laughing.
“What?” she asked. “It’s a cute story!”
“Let’s hope my family believes it,” Levi sighed.
Five minutes later, Levi stopped in front of his mother’s house.
“We’re here,” he announced.
He walked out of the car and hurried to Hange’s side, opening the door for her and offering her his hand.
“If you keep acting like this,” she giggled, taking the offered hand. “No one will believe that our relationship is real. Don’t worry,” she said softly. “Just be yourself.”
Levi rolled his eyes. He would never admit it, of course, but, maybe, Hange was right.
“Wait!” Hange widely opened her eyes. “We haven’t discussed one very important detail!”
“What are you talking about?” Levi furrowed his eyebrows.
“Our pet names, of course, silly! How do you want me to call you? Babe? Honey? Little kitten?”
Levi cringed. Then he looked at Hange closer. Her shoulders were shaking, as though she was barely holding in her laugh.
“You are such a jerk,” Levi mumbled. “Let’s go already. I hate to be late.”
“Mm, as you say, kitten,” Hange giggled, as Levi sent her his scariest glare. She didn’t even flinch. Instead, she wrapped her arm around his waist, making it look so casual, as though she was doing it all the time. Meanwhile, it took every part of Levi’s willpower to relax and put his own hand around her shoulders.
Walking up to his mother’s house, Levi knocked. In less than a second, she answered, wearing a bright, happy smile.
“You came!” she exclaimed, her eyes immediately locking onto Hange. “I’m so happy to meet you! I can’t believe Levi was hiding you from us for so long!”
“I’m pleased to meet you, as well, Mrs. Ackerman,” Hange tucked a lose lock of her hair, blushing slightly. Levi wondered if it was genuine or just an act.
“Oh, please, just call me Kuchel!” she squeezed Hange in a tight hug. “We’re almost family, after all!”
“Mom, please,” even if all of it was a lie, Levi’s embarrassment was quite real. “If you continue to act like this, Hange will never agree to visit us again.”
“Ah, don’t listen to that shorty,” Hange chuckled. “You’re so nice!”
“Shorty?” Levi cursed, as he heard that particular voice, followed by a hearty laugh. “I already like you, my dear!”
“She’s not your dear,” Levi glared at his uncle.
Kenny’s smile grew wider. “Uh-oh, someone is jealous. Don’t worry, kid, I won’t steal your girlfriend. If you promise to treat her nicely.”
“Shut up, old man,” Levi growled.
“Boys, stop it!” Kuchel gave them both a disapproving look. “Levi, show Hange the dining room, and, you, Kenny, go and help me in the kitchen.”
“Maybe, I can help you with something, too?” Hange offered.
“Oh, honey, absolutely not,” Kuchel shook her head. “You’re our guest tonight, so just relax and let us handle everything.”
“Well, if you insist,” Hange said with a soft smile.
“She’s not only pretty, but polite, as well!” his mother whispered to him, before Levi walked away. “I’m so happy you’ve found yourself someone so nice!”
Levi quickly nodded and turned away, feeling the guilt eat at him again.
  ***
“So, Hange,” Kenny began, taking a sip from his glass. “Tell us what you do.”
“I’m a scientist,” Hange said. “I study the regeneration process and ways of enhancing it.”
“You’re not just looks, but brains too, huh?” Kenny winked at her. “So what did you find in my nephew?”
“Well, I couldn’t resist his charmingly grumpy attitude,” Hange shrugged.
Kenny and Kuchel burst out laughing.
“Levi, I really don’t envy you,” Kenny said. “With tongue as sharp as hers, you surely can’t catch a break.”
“Tell me about it,” Levi rolled his eyes.
The conversation continued after that, and, as he watched Hange discuss politics with Kenny or talk about books with his mother, Levi couldn’t quite shake the feeling that Hange belonged here. She surprisingly easy got on with his family, and both Kenny and Kuchel already seemed to adore her.
His family kept talking about something, but Levi didn’t exactly pay attention. Instead, he was focused on Hange, as his eyes followed her every movement. Suddenly, their gazes met, and Levi hastily looked away, taking a large sip of wine from his glass. Trying not to act like he was caught staring at his ‘girlfriend’ like some kind of a creep. Reminding himself that all of it was just an act.
  ***
In the end, he drank a little too much wine. He wasn’t exactly drunk, but he couldn’t drive either, so his mother persuaded Levi to stay the night at her house.
“We have a guestroom,” she said. “And it’s pretty late already. I will feel much better, if you sleep here tonight.”
“I…” Levi never really could say no to his mother. “If Hange’s okay with it, then so am I.”
“Well, I don’t need to go to work tomorrow,” Hange replied. “So yeah, let’s stay.”
“Great!” Kuchel smiled. “Then you should go and relax in the living room, while I prepare the bedding for you.”
“Please, let me help,” Hange said.
“No, no,” Kuched refused again. “I’ve seen the way Levi was staring at you the whole evening,” she winked. “I’m sure he can’t wait to spend some time alone with you!”
“Mom!” Levi exclaimed, scandalized.
“Oh, honey, there is no need to be ashamed,” Kuchel ruffled his hair. “You’re a big boy already.”
“Big, but not tall,” Hange joked.
“Shut the fuck up,” Levi growled, grabbing her hand and dragging her to the living room.
Once there, away from the prying eyes of his family, Levi finally let himself relax. In the meanwhile, Hange took out two glasses and filled them with wine.
She held one glass out for Levi. “To the success of our little act,” she smiled.
“We’ve really managed to fool them,” Levi agreed, drinking from his glass.
“Yes,” Hange drew out, smiling lazily.
Levi suddenly realized how close they were sitting. Their thighs were pressed together, and when Levi turned his face to look at Hange, he was almost nose to nose with her. She seemed to realize that as well, but, unlike Levi, their proximity didn’t seem to freak her out.
On the contrary, she leaned in closer, until their lips were almost touching. “Your mother is watching,” she whispered, before kissing him.
It wasn’t a long kiss, it lasted for no more than five seconds, but those five seconds seemed like an eternity to Levi. He was shocked by Hange’s actions, but for some reason, probably because he was drunker than he thought, Levi didn’t even think about pushing her away.
He didn’t think about their lie, about his mother or Kenny. No, he thought only of Hange and the feeling of her surprisingly soft lips against his.
As soon as Hange moved away, Levi pretended to look behind her shoulder. “My mother is still here,” he lied, kissing her again.
His mother wasn’t there, of course. If Hange had strained her ears, she would quickly realize that Levi’s mother was in the kitchen, talking with Kenny. Maybe, she wasn’t actually watching them, when Hange had kissed him too, but Levi couldn’t care less. He was slowly losing himself in that kiss, and he wanted nothing more than to continue.
“So what about that promised guestroom?” Hange asked when they broke apart.
Levi nodded, his mind too blank to think of proper words. He got to his feet and Hange followed his suit. He led her to the bedroom and then closed the door, hoping that neither his mother, nor especially Kenny would disturb them.
“Are you sure?” he looked closely at Hange, taking pleasure in watching the rapid rise and fall of her chest and the way blush painted her face. This sight was making him drunker than the wine.
“Yes,” Hange breathed out, her voice husky and so, so sexy.
This was all Levi needed. He swiftly closed the distance between them, connecting his lips with hers. Hange put her hands into his hair, and when Levi moved from her lips to her neck, sucking at the delicate skin there, her fingers started to play with his strands, pulling at them and moaning softly.
They were just drunk, Levi kept telling himself, when he took off her glasses and began unbuttoning her shirt.
They couldn’t think straight, he reminded himself, as he pushed Hange down onto the bed.
It didn’t mean anything, he tried to persuade himself after they’ve finished and he slowly drifted to sleep, hugging Hange close to his chest.
  ***
Levi woke up with a groan. The fucking sun was shining right in his eyes, and he turned away from it, covering his face with a blanket.
He was ready to go back to sleep, when suddenly it hit him.
The sun, it was already high enough to shine through the window. He shot up and looked at the clock.
10:39.
What the fuck?
He had never, ever slept for so long. Usually Levi slept for no more than four hours. What the fuck happened?
And then, oh, the memories of last night began to resurface. He remembered his mother’s smiling face, as he introduced her to Hange, he remembered Kenny’s annoying smirk, as he continuously teased him, he remembered Hange, acting shy, but pleased, as she talked with his family. He remembered the kiss and everything that followed.
Levi sat up on the bed, hands in his hair. Shit, what did he do last night? Why did he decide it was a good idea to sleep with Hange? Why didn’t she stop him? Why didn’t he stop himself?
And as Levi glanced around the room, another important question appeared in his mind – where was Hange now?
Was she disgusted by him? Did she regret last night so much that she ran away? Was it the end of their arrangement?
Levi hurriedly got up from the bed. Putting his clothes on, he rushed downstairs, all the while thinking of how he would explain all of it to his mother.
He also needed to find Hange. Maybe, he should apologize to her? Explain that he was drunk and couldn’t think clearly?
Levi practically burst into the kitchen.
And then he promptly stopped, looking at the scene in front of him with wide, confused eyes.
Hange was sitting there. She held a cup of coffee in her hands and there was a small smile on her lips, as she listened to whatever his mother was talking about.
Hange. Was. There.
She didn’t run away, didn’t abandon him. She was there, so relaxed and joyful as though last night didn’t happen.
“Good morning, honey!” his mother was the first one to notice him. “Did you have a good night? You’ve been sleeping for much longer than usual.”
Yes, he did. He slept for almost ten hours. The last time he slept for so long was when… No, Levi couldn’t even remember when he had such a good night sleep. He couldn’t explain it to himself.  Of course, he had some faint idea, but no. Even the notion of it was ridiculous. He probably slept for so long, because he was drunk (although, he didn’t have the smallest sign of hungover, but Levi promptly ignored this fact).
He had drunk too much, and that’s why he was sleeping for so long. Hange, sleeping in the bed beside him, had nothing to do with it.
“Hey, sit down,” Hange pointed to a chair next to her, “and have this.”
Levi skeptically looked at the mug that Hange put next to him. It looked like tea and smelled like it, too. He narrowed his eyes suspiciously.
“Oh, c’mon!” Hange rolled her eyes. “It’s tea, I didn’t poison it or anything.”
“It doesn’t hurt to be careful with you, four-eyes,” Levi grumbled. He did as she asked, though, and took a sit next to her. He lifted the mug and gave it another critical look. “It’s not another experiment of yours, right? I won’t grow a second head after drinking it?”
“Have some faith in me,” Hange playfully punched his shoulder. “Besides, your mother was there, when I made it. I couldn’t have poisoned you in front of her.”
“I guarantee that this tea is completely harmless,” Kuchel said with a smile.
“Alright,” Levi gave in and then took a small, tentative sip.
It was tea, just as Hange said. Strong and bitter with a heavy herbal scent. Exactly as he liked it.
Levi looked up in surprise. He glanced at Hange, and then his eyes focused on his mother.
“Don’t look at me like that, honey,” Kuchel chuckled. “It wasn’t me who told her how to prepare it. Hange knew it herself.”
Levi turned back to Hange, an intense look in his eyes.
“I watched you prepare tea the other day,” she explained with an almost shy smile. “Is it good?” if Levi didn’t know better, if he didn’t know that it was just an act, he’d say that Hange was nervous.
But. It all was just an act. Even if he started to wish that it wasn’t.
“That’s exactly how I drink it,” for some weird reason, he felt tense. Hange’s eyes on him made him uncomfortable. But not in a bad way. “Thank you,” he whispered more softly than he intended to.
“Ah, a good cup of tea is a sure way to our Levi’s heart,” Kenny chuckled, coming from behind to ruffle Levi’s hair. Levi didn’t even notice him entering the kitchen.
“Are you going somewhere?” he asked, noticing that Kenny was already dressed.
“Got some business in the office,” Kenny put his hat on, grinning at Levi. “You can take a day-off, by the way. Rest and relax, spend time with your lovely lady,” he winked at Hange. “Don’t think about the work.”
“B-but—”
“No buts!” Kenny chided. “I’m not doing this for you, kid. I’m sure Hange will get lonely, if you continue to work like a madman.”
Levi gritted his teeth, knowing perfectly well that it was pointless to argue with Kenny. Well, his apartment needed cleaning anyway.
“Oh, and by the way,” Kenny said, before walking out. “You didn’t forget about the Gathering this weekend?”
Levi barely stopped himself from groaning out loud. He did forget about that stupid shit.
Hange kicked his leg under the table, a silent question in her eyes.
“I’ll tell you later,” Levi whispered to her, before turning back to his uncle.
“Do I really have to go?” he asked him. “You know I hate it.”
“As do I, kid,” Kenny smirked. “Bring Hange with you, you won’t feel so miserable then. Well,” Kenny tipped his hat. “I’m off to work now! Adios!”
  ***
“So what was Kenny talking about?” Hange asked, as soon as they said goodbye to Kuchel and got inside the car.
Levi sighed. “It’s an annual event. Gathering, as they call it. Basically, it’s a banquet for the richest, snobbiest shits in this city.”
“Oh,” Hange smirked. “It’s for the people like you!”
“I’m rich,” Levi glared at her. “And sometimes I can be quite shitty, but I’m not a snob.”
“Keep telling yourself that,” Hange chuckled. “So, you need me to accompany you there?”
“I know it wasn’t a part of our deal—”
“No, I’m fine with that,” Hange carelessly waved her hand. “I can’t abandon you in the time of need, right?”
“Thanks,” Levi said, feeling more relieved that he probably should be.
  ***
The following week Levi spent drowning in his work. Even though, Kenny became strangely productive, there were still a shit ton of things that needed his attention. And, of course, the Gathering was approaching, so Levi had to help with organizing it, as well.
As a result, he was coming home close to midnight or even later, and almost didn’t see Hange. Sometimes she texted him, asking what groceries she should buy, and sometimes she left a dinner for him with a little note on the fridge.
But their communication was kept to a minimum, and Levi was glad that it was.
During the day, his mind was occupied with financial reports, income statements and other paperwork. There were a thousand of workers he needed to keep in check, dozens of problems he needed to solve. There was no time for him to think of anything else.
However, once he came back home, once he lay in his bed, having nothing to distract himself with, his treacherous mind began to fill with unwanted images.
He saw Hange’s flushed face, as she asked him where the bedroom was. He felt her needy and passionate kisses, he heard her quiet moans and gasps. He remembered how good it felt to hold her in his arms, how sweet his dreams were, as Hange slept beside him.
It was hard for Levi to admit, but he desperately wanted to repeat that night, wanted to feel the warmth of Hange’s body once more.
But he knew that he couldn’t.
Hange acted as though nothing happened between them. In front of Levi’s family, she pretended to be his girlfriend. When they were alone, she acted like they were friends. Not even once did she speak of that night.
Maybe, she was drunker than she seemed and didn’t remember it. Or, maybe, it wasn’t such a big deal for her. Either way, she didn’t seem uncomfortable.
And Levi would really, really like to follow her suit. To forget about it and continue with his life. But maybe, he was spending too much time working and not enough sleeping. Maybe, the guilt from lying to his mother was making him crazy.
His life would probably return to normal, once the month was over.
But as for now, Levi could only hope.
  ***
“Wow,” Hange breathed out, as she and Levi moved through the crowd of extremely rich-looking people. “That is one hell of a fancy party.”
Levi didn’t answer, too busy glaring at the disgusting pigs, surrounding him. Their fake smiles and overly polite words made him sick. However, he had to admit – Hange’s presence somewhat managed to lift his sour mood.
“What should we do?” she continued, undisturbed by his silence or scowling face. “Do we come up to say hi or—”
“Absolutely not,” Levi protested. “We find the emptiest corner we can and hope no one notices us.”
Hange’s chuckled, the sound filled with relief. “Yeah, works for me. I don’t think I’ll be well received by this particular crowd.”
“And neither will I,” Levi replied, dragging her to the most secluded part of the room.
They stood there for almost half an hour, with Hange providing hilarious commentary on every guest and Levi barely resisting from laughing out loud.
“Oh, no,” Hange suddenly said, her voice urged and tinted with panic. She grabbed Levi by the hand, squeezing it almost painfully. “He is here.”
“Who?” Levi asked, trying to see who the fuck managed to worry Hange so much.
“No, no,” she whispered. “Don’t look at him. Maybe, he won’t notice us then.”
“Who did you—”
And oh, now Levi saw him too. Zeke fucking Yeager.
“You know him?” he asked.
“Yes,” it wasn’t hard to notice the distain in her tone. “We’ve attended the same university. He was the second most successful student. After me, of course. We were rivals, of sorts. Wait,” Hange looked at Levi with wide eyes. “You know him too?”
“Yes,” Levi sighed. “His company rivals my uncle’s.”
“Shit,” Hange said. Levi couldn’t agree more.
“Shit,” she repeated, more urgently this time. “He saw us. And he’s heading our way.”
If Levi wanted to escape, it was too late now. In a matter of seconds, Zeke was standing right in front of them.
“Who do I see? The brightest mind of our generation,” with a sweet smile on his face, Zeke grabbed Hange’s palm and planted a kiss on it. “Miss Hange Zoe, it’s been awhile.”
“It’s Doctor Hange Zoe,” she corrected. “And I’m sure you know it.”
“Ah, as fierce as ever,” he chuckled. “I’ve missed your passion.”
“And haven’t you missed me, Zeke?” Levi interrupted, glaring at him.
Zeke chuckled again. “Levi, I didn’t notice you. I think you’ve become even shorter.”
Levi had to summon all of his willpower to stop himself from punching that arrogant asshole. Hange’s hand, which was squeezing his almost painfully, did a great job of keeping him grounded.
“And I think you’ve become an even bigger piece of a shit than you were,” he gritted through his teeth.
“As vulgar as always,” Zeke rolled his eyes. “What else could I expect from an Ackerman?”
Zeke continued to show his overly sweet smile, but his eyes filled with some confusion, as he saw Hange and Levi’s joined hands.
“Don’t tell you’ve come here with him, Miss Zoe,” he said, pointedly ignoring Levi.
“I haven’t come with him,” Hange replied, her smile so big, she almost bared her teeth at Zeke. “I am with him.”
“You’re dating?” Zeke’s eyebrows went so high, they’ve reached his hairline. “So you didn’t take pity on that pathetic friend of yours? The one, who was always following you like a faithful dog?”
“I don’t know who you’re talking about,” Hange said, her voice cold and her gaze sharp.
“Oh, so you don’t even remember him? That foolish guy… what was his name? Mob— Mobit?”
“Moblit,” Hange corrected him through gritted teeth. “And there is nothing pathetic or foolish about him. He’s ten times better person than you are.”
“Really? He’s so good? And yet you’ve chosen Levi Ackerman over him?”
“I don’t have to explain myself to you,” Hange sneered. “But if you haven’t noticed how amazing Levi is, then I don’t think I can persuade you.”
Unfortunately, before Levi could relish in the sight of Zeke’s dumfounded face or process what Hange had just said about him, he was quite rudely dragged away.
“What a fucking asshole, what a jerk,” Hange muttered, as she led Levi through the crowd of guests. “How dare he talk about Moblit like this, and how dare he shit on you as well, I just—”
Levi stopped so abruptly, Hange had no other choice than to come to a stop alongside him.
“What?” she asked. “Do you see another annoying asshole?”
“No,” Levi shook his head, wondering if he actually understood Hange clearly. Was she pissed off at Zeke not just for offending her friend? Did she try to defend him as well? “Everything’s fine, let’s go to the balcony. I need to get some air.”
“Yeah, good idea,” Hange nodded.
As they stood at the balcony, each lost in their own thoughts, Levi couldn’t help but stare at Hange. Illuminated by stars and city lights, she looked different than usual. Almost surreal.
“Oh, for fuck’s sake,” she suddenly cursed, breaking Levi out of his reverie. “That fucker is still staring at us.”
Levi looked back and saw it too. Zeke was standing in the main room, looking right at them and smirking arrogantly.
An idea popped up in Levi’s head.
“Hey,” he said before he could stop himself. “Do you want to piss him off?”
“Of course,” Hange agreed without hesitation.
Levi smirked, laying his hands on Hange’s waist and bringing her closer. The voice inside his head cursed and protested, begging Levi to stop. He didn’t listen.
Instead, he leaned in even closer, until mere centimeters were everything that separated Hange and him. He gave her last careful look, searching for the smallest signs of discomfort. There wasn’t any.
So Levi connected his lips with hers, instantly losing himself in the kiss. His hands gripped her waist tighter, as he deepened the kiss.
Zeke probably wasn’t watching them anymore, but Levi continued to kiss her. Just to be sure.
And he would have continued to kiss her for much longer, but suddenly Hange pushed him away.
“Not that I’m not enjoying it,” she chuckled, her voice husky. She was enjoying it? Levi wondered if she meant the kiss or the act of pissing Zeke off. “But I think we should stop. Otherwise we’ll get kicked out of this fancy party.”
I don’t care, Levi almost argued. If he looked around, he’d see dozen of people staring at him. He’d see Zeke and his friends, watching them with disgust (and with poorly hidden envy), Kenny, smirking proudly, and all the other guests, giving him confused looks, not actually believing that Levi Ackerman, a known bachelor just as his uncle, was kissing some unknown, nerdy-looking woman.
And still, he didn’t care. None of it mattered, not really. Not as much as Hange did.
But he couldn’t tell that to her, couldn’t reveal what exactly she made him feel.
So he took a step back, letting go of her, and nodded, still looking a little bit dazed. “Let’s go home, then. I’m sick of this stupid shit.”
As soon as they got home, Hange headed to her bedroom, claiming that she was exhausted.
Levi couldn’t decide if he should feel relieved or disappointed.
  ***
The next Friday, it was Levi’s turn to host Ackerman family dinner. He spent the whole day in the kitchen, preparing the food and slapping Hange’s hands away, whenever she tried to help him.
He had witnessed her once, cooking an omelet. He swore to never let her come close to oven ever again.
Amazingly, but that dinner was even more successful than the first one. Levi’s mother and uncle seemed to like Hange even more, as her bright smile and warm eyes managed to charm them even further.
As he watched the three of them talk, Levi remembered that he planned on ‘breaking up’ with Hange soon. Initially, Hange agreed to be his girlfriend for a month. Levi didn’t believe that he’d endure her for so long. But now it felt like it wasn’t even nearly enough.
He liked living with Hange. Even though, all of it was an act, just Hange doing, what he had paid her for, Levi started to wish that all of it was real. That Hange was actually his girlfriend, that all of her signs of affection were genuine, that she actually liked him.
He started to wish that he could stop pretending that it was all just an act for him.
  ***
Levi just returned back to his apartment after walking his mother and Kenny to their car, when he heard a strange sound. It sounded like four-eyes didn’t fucking listen to him and decided to wash the dishes.
“What the fuck are doing?” he asked, walking into the kitchen and scowling at Hange.
“Well, what does it look like?” Hange shrugged, undisturbed by Levi’s hard gaze. “I’m doing the dishes.”
“I told you I’m going to do it myself.”
A smirk appeared on Hange’s lips. A very mischievous and evil smirk. “Then come here and stop me, shorty.”
Levi growled and started moving. That was his mistake. As soon as he was close enough, Hange took the faucet in her hands and directed the flaw directly at him.
He cursed, as he realized that his favorite shirt was ruined, but didn’t stop. He reached Hange and put his hands on hers, trying to push her away. She redirected the flaw from his shirt to his face.
Spurting and gritting his teeth, Levi used all of his force to press her to the countertop. Without looking away from her face, he turned off the faucet.
“So?” he said right into her lips. “What are you going to do now?”
“Oh, Levi,” Hange rolled her eyes, looking relaxed and quite content. “You should know that I always have an ace up my sleeve.”
Before Levi could really process her words, Hange surged forward, claiming his lips in a passionate kiss. Instantly, Levi’s mind was turned off, just like that faucet moments ago. He forgot about his wet shirt, about his annoyance and anger. All that was left was Hange and the feeling of her body in his arms.
“A-ah, Levi!” Hange moaned, as Levi moved away from her lips to bite at her earlobe. That sound was like music to him. “W-wait, wait!”
She put her hands on his chest, pushing away. Confused, Levi instantly took a step back.
“Are we really going to do it?” Levi became even more confused. They’ve done it before, two weeks ago. And they’ve kissed again at the Gathering. Why was Hange against it now? “I mean,” she trailed off, her gaze constantly darting to his lips. “Wouldn’t it be better to move to the bedroom?”
Oh, Levi couldn’t believe, how relieved he felt.
Without wasting any second, he kissed Hange again.
“It’s the smartest thing you’ve said to me,” he whispered, before taking her hand and hurriedly leading her to his bedroom.
  ***
And so… they’ve fucked again. And as Levi woke up (again, much later than usual), again his bed was empty.
So it was just sex after all. Levi knew he shouldn’t be surprised. But his heart still squeezed painfully, as that realization hit him.
  ***
After taking a shower and putting his clothes on, Levi walked out of the bedroom, searching for Hange. He knew that he should leave it and her alone, try to forget about last night, but he felt almost physical need to see her. Just to make sure that she was still there, that she didn’t leave him.
But as Levi walked up to her room, he saw that Hange wasn’t alone.
Her friend Moblit was sitting in a chair, as Hange stood close to him, her right hand pointing at something on the computer screen. Her left hand was at the back of Moblit’s head, as her fingers absentmindedly played with his hair.
As he watched that overly sweet scene, Levi’s jaw tightened. Anger began flowing through him like hot lava.
Without saying anything, he shut the door closed and turned around, walking out of his apartment.
So for Hange it really was just sex? She really didn’t feel anything for him? Levi knew, he knew that he shouldn’t have expected anything else. It was just a job for Hange, and who could blame her for deciding to have some fun, while at it?
It was Levi, who was a fool. He made a mistake, he got attached. He should have known better.
But he didn’t.
Levi spent almost three hours, wondering the streets. Trying to get those annoying thoughts about Hange out of his head.
Thankfully, he knew just the right remedy for that.
So he headed to his office, determined to throw himself head-first into the work.
  ***
And threw himself he did. He was pushing himself to the point of exhaustion, sitting in his office till early hours of morning. He slept for less than two hours and he came home only to shower and change clothes. He avoided Hange completely, ignoring all of her texts and calls.
It was just one more week, he kept telling himself. One more week and this whole idiotic charade would be over. His life would return to normal and he would forget about that stupid woman.
Hange would disappear from his life. And maybe then, his heart would stop aching.
  ***
Levi kept that crazy schedule for four days straight. And, unfortunately, but naturally, it had quite negative effects on his productivity.
He cursed, as he was getting ready to a meeting with investors, and realized that he had forgotten important documents at home. He had two hours until the meeting started, but it was the middle of the day. If he came home now, it would be impossible to avoid Hange.
Levi cursed again, thinking, if he had any alternatives. Of course, he could ask someone else to pick the documents for him. One of his assistants, for example. Or he could just suck it up and do it himself.
After all, it was his apartment. And, maybe, Hange wasn’t even awake right now, or, maybe, she was too absorbed in another one of her experiments. She probably wouldn’t even notice his arrival. And even if she did, Levi would be gone, before she could start a conversation.
And with that in mind, Levi headed out of his office.
  ***
As he entered his apartment, Levi found it to be blessedly quiet. So, his guess was right – Hange was sleeping. It wouldn’t be so peaceful, if she wasn’t.
Satisfied that he wouldn’t run into her, Levi decided to brew himself a cup of tea. The one he was drinking at the office wasn’t as good as the one he had at home. Levi missed its exquisite taste.
However, as he walked into the kitchen, he found out that he wasn’t alone at his apartment. No, that fucker, Moblit, was sitting there.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” he said, putting down the book he was reading. “Hange said you wouldn’t return until evening. She went out to grab us a lunch,” he hurriedly explained.
“Whatever,” Levi grumbled, taking out his favorite cup. Just the sight of Moblit’s face made his anger resurface, but Levi decided to ignore it. He wouldn’t lose his cool because of some idiot Hange was evidently in love with.
“You’re breaking her heart, you know,” Moblit quietly said. Levi froze. “You’ve been avoiding her and Hange noticed it,” Moblit continued, staring into his cup. “It makes her sad.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Levi looked away from him, determined to finish brewing his tea. Deciding to ignore those stupid words and how they made him feel.
“You really don’t?” Moblit asked. The earnest tone of his voice made Levi clench his jaw. He didn’t know what he was talking about. And he didn’t want to. “Do you really not care about Hange?”
“I don’t,” Levi said, hating how untrue he sounded even to his own ears. “And besides,” he took a step closer, glaring furiously at Moblit. “Why are you so worked up about this? Even if it’s true and I’m breaking Hange’s heart, why are you so upset? It could be your chance, you know. If she’s sad, you can be the one to soothe her pain. Be her shoulder to cry on. Maybe, then she will finally see you.”
Moblit shot to his feet, his hands clenched into fists and trembling with barely conceived anger. “If it weren’t for Hange,” he gritted through his teeth. “I would have punched you. God knows, you deserve it. You’re lucky she cares about you.”
He pushed past Levi, heading to the entrance door. “Tell Hange I’ve got some urgent business.” He said before walking out.
Levi watched him go, his shoulders shaking from anger. He wanted to smash something, to take something in his hands and fucking break it. Maybe, Moblit really should have punched him, Levi would have punched him back. It would be a great outlet for his frustration.
But as the moments went by, Levi’s anger at Moblit, and at Hange, disappeared. Instead, as his mind began to clear out, Levi understood what he had done, what he had said.
Moblit didn’t deserve such cruel words. Clearly, he was a good man, who cared about his friend. It wasn’t his fault that Hange cared about him too. It wasn’t his, or hers, fault that Levi wanted her to care about him instead.
Levi sighed, slowly lowering himself onto the chair. He was going crazy, that’s for sure.
One week, he reminded himself. He needs to survive one week, and then it would be over.
  ***
He was still sitting there, trying to regain his composure, when the front door of his apartment opened. Hange walked in, carrying a box of pizza in her hands.
“Levi!” the surprise was evident in her voice. Levi looked up at her and instantly regretted his decision. His treacherous heart skipped a beat at the sight of her face. He didn’t realize that he missed her so much.
“I didn’t expect you to come home so early. Something happened?” she asked, staring at him worriedly.
“Forgot some documents at home,” he murmured absentmindedly, unable to take his eyes away from her.
“Oh, did you have lunch already?” she put the pizza down. “Want to join Moblit and me?”
“Moblit went home,” as he said those words, he was once again filled with guilt and shame. “He needed to take care of something.”
Hange’s face fell. “I brought his favorite pizza…” however, a moment later, a smile returned to her lips. “Well, then you definitely have to share it with me! I can’t eat it all by myself.”
Levi wanted to refuse. He even had a reason to – he had to return back to work. But looking at Hange’s hopeful eyes, he felt his resolve slipping.
“Fine,” he said, trying to sound as annoyed as possible. “But don’t you dare to bore me with your scientific rumblings.”
“As you wish!” Hange laughed. “Besides, I want to hear about you too. What have you been up to these days? You work so much, I barely see you anymore.”
Levi hated the genuine worry in Hange’s voice. It tugged at his heart. It made him feel like the biggest jerk in the world. It filled him with remorse and regret.
“I… I just had a lot of work.”
She shook her head. “You should take it easy. Your mother worries, you know.”
“You talked with her?” Levi raised his eyebrows. It was news to him.
“She visited me yesterday,” Hange shrugged. “She probably wanted to see you, as well.”
“Oh.”
“Your mother is very nice,” Hange chuckled. “I’ll miss her after our break-up.”
Of course, they were going to ‘break up’ this weekend. Their arrangement was coming to an end.
Levi knew he should feel relieved. But he didn’t.
“You should probably get her ready for our break-up,” Hange took a bite of the pizza, oblivious to the effect this particular conversation had on Levi. “So it wouldn’t seem like it happened out of blue.”
Levi nodded, looking away from Hange. He knew that all of it was a lie, that their relationship weren’t real. But for some reason, his heart still ached and just the thought of saying goodbye to Hange made him sick.
“I need to go,” he suddenly rose to his feet, hastily finishing his slice of pizza. “I have an important meeting.”
“Will you come home this evening?” Hange asked, her eyes boring into his. “Or will you spend the night in your office again?”
“You’ve been avoiding her and Hange noticed it,” Moblit’s words rang inside his head. “It makes her sad.”
“I have a lot of work,” he answered helplessly. Then, before he could stop himself, he added. “But I’ll try to finish earlier.”
“Yay!” the obviously happy smile on Hange’s face made Levi’s mouth go dry. “Then I’m cooking dinner tonight!”
“Don’t you dare,” Levi hissed. “I’ll order take-out on my way home.”
“Still don’t trust my cooking skills, shorty?”
“I just want to keep my apartment,” he retorted before leaving the kitchen.
As he was heading to the office, a small smile was on his lips.
He didn’t even notice.
  ***
“Honey?” Kuchel softly knocked on the side his office’s door. “Are you busy?”
“No,” Levi shook his head, putting his papers away. There was no work more important than his mother. “Is everything alright?”
“Of course. Just brought you some sandwiches,” Kuchel laid them down on his desk, taking a seat across from Levi. “You’ve been working a lot these past few days.”
“Yeah,” Levi ran a hand through his hair. “There are a lot of things that need my attention.”
“So responsible,” Kuchel smiled. “You look exhausted. And stressed,” she looked at Levi, her usually soft grey eyes turning sharp. “Is the work the only thing that worries you?”
“N-no…” Levi looked away, feigning distress. “We’ve been fighting with Hange…”
“Oh?”
“Yeah, I think…” he sighed, lowering his head. He couldn’t lie while looking his mother in the eyes. “I think we’re going to break up, mom.”
Levi carefully looked at his mother beneath his hair. He expected her to be shocked, or, maybe, saddened. Her shoulders indeed were shaking, and Levi was ready to get up and comfort her, but then he gave her another look. She covered her mouth with a hand, but there were no tears in her eyes. No, instead, his mother seemed to be trying to keep herself from laughing.
Levi stared at her, utterly confused. “Mom?”
“I’m sorry, sorry,” a small laugh escaped her lips. “I just didn’t know that you can break up with someone, if you’ve never actually dated.”
“What?” Levi’s eyes widened. “You… you knew?”
“Of course, I did, honey,” Kuchel covered his hand with hers. “I knew it from the moment you’ve told me about this mysterious girl of yours.”
“Then why… why didn’t you tell me?”
Kuchel shrugged, a look of mischief in her eyes. “I wanted to see what you were going to do. Truth be told, I thought you’d just confess that it was a lie. But I guess I should have known that you wouldn’t give up so easily. And then you brought this girl,” her grin turned into a fond smile. “I watched you two together, bickering and teasing each other, and I saw… potential.”
“Potential?”
“You were comfortable with her. And she didn’t seem to care about your insults and constant scowls. You were good together, you seemed happy. And then I saw you kissing on the sofa in our living room. You were quite passionate, that’s for sure,” she winked. “So I decided to keep quiet. To see where it can lead to.”
“Shit,” Levi covered his eyes. “So you knew all this time…” he couldn’t wrap his head around it. “Kenny knows too?”
Kuchel chuckled. “Of course, no. Your uncle is a smart man, but he’s not quite as sharp as I am.”
“Thank fucking god he isn’t.” If Kenny knew about his idiotic plan, Levi wasn’t sure that he’d be able to survive the humiliation.
“Levi?” Kuchel looked him in the eyes. “You like Hange, don’t you?”
“Yeah… but it doesn’t matter.”
“Why not?”
“Because she doesn’t like me back.”
Kuchel smiled, getting to her feet and coming to stand in front of Levi. She put her hand on his cheek, gently caressing it. “Are you so sure about it, dear?”
“Of course I am,” Levi turned away from his mother’s eyes. “She already has someone.”
“She does?” Kuchel’s asked, her voice soft as silk.
“I… I think so.”
“Honey, why don’t you go and talk to her?” his mother proposed. “You won’t know how she feels about you, until you ask her.”
“But what if she doesn’t feel the same as I do?” Levi whispered.
Kuchel shrugged, ruffling his hair. “You accept it. You try to move on. You’d feel a lot worse if you don’t use this chance. Believe me, you’ll be regretting it for the rest of your life.”
“I… yeah, you’re right,” Levi nodded, feeling much better now. His mother was right, it was better to get rejected than tormenting yourself with ‘what ifs’. “I’ll go and see her now. Thank you,” he tightly embraced his mother.
“I’m always there for you, honey,” Kuchel smiled, squeezing Levi once before letting him go. “Now go. And call me afterwards! I’ll be waiting!”
“Of course,” Levi said and then left his office.
No matter the result, he was determined to tell Hange how he felt about her.
  ***
When Levi arrived at his apartment, Hange was in the middle of packing her things. Moblit was helping her with that, and when Levi showed up, he narrowed his eyes and clenched his jaw, glaring at him.
Well, Levi wasn’t blaming him. After their last conversation, the guy had every reason to hate him. Levi needed to apologize to him.
But that could wait, he had to talk to Hange first. While he still had his resolve.
“Hange? Can we talk?” he asked her quietly. “In private,” he added, glancing at Moblit.
“I… of course,” Hange smiled. She turned to Moblit and they looked at each other, having a silent conversation. Hange smiled and squeezed his elbow. Moblit sighed, but evidently agreed to leave them alone. Before he walked out, he gave Levi another disapproving look.
“So? Did you tell your mother about our break-up?”
Levi shook his head. “I didn’t really need to.”
“Huh?” Hange frowned.
“She knew that all of it was a lie.”
“Ouch,” Hange winced. “What gave us away?”
“Nothing,” Levi said. “She knew it from the very beginning. Even before she met you.”
Hange chuckled awkwardly, scratching her neck. “You must be embarrassed.”
“Yeah, it sucks,” Levi agreed.
“So?” Hange put her hands in the pockets of her pants, looking as relaxed as ever. But Levi knew it wasn’t true. Her shoulders were tense and she was biting her lip, her eyes darting from one corner of the room to another. Never stopping at Levi. “This is a goodbye?”
“If you want it to be.”
“Huh?” Hange finally looked at him, confusion swirling in her gaze. “What do you mean, Levi?”
Levi clenched his fists. It was now or never.
He was going to do it, he was going to confess to Hange. Right fucking now.
However, as he looked into her eyes, he began to lose some of his courage. He turned away, coming to stand by a window.
“Before I met you…” he began, his voice quiet, but steady. “My life was quite miserable. I was so lonely and I couldn’t even admit it. But when you showed up, when you moved in with me, I started to realize that maybe I was wrong. That maybe I didn’t want to be alone. And when I was with you, I realized that I don’t have to be alone. I finally understood how good it felt to be with someone. And I know it was a lie, I know we’ve just pretended, but I’ve spent the whole month, desperately wishing for it to be true. I know that this is inappropriate and I know that you probably don’t feel the same, but I—”
“Levi,” Hange came up to him, grabbing his elbow and turning him around to look at him. “I have feelings for you too.”
“What? What kind of feelings? Do you m—”
“Levi,” Hange pressed a hand to his mouth, silencing him. “I have never thought I’d tell you that, but you’re talking too much,” she smiled, as she saw his glare. Now that was the Levi she knew. “And to answer your question – romantic ones. I like you, Levi.”
“Oh,” Levi was so surprised that he forgot to be annoyed by the fact that Hange pressed her probably dirty hand to his mouth. He could lecture her about it later. Now there was a more pressing matter. “So you like me? Not Moblit— or anyone else, but me?”
“Yes, dumbass,” Hange rolled her eyes. “I like you. Wait,” she looked at him closely, a sly grin on her lips. “You thought I liked Moblit? Were you jealous?”
Levi looked away, a stupid blush appearing on his cheeks. “I may have gotten into a fight with him. I… said things to him that I… that I shouldn’t have.”
“Oh god!” Hange doubled over with laughter, clutching at her sides. “That was why he was so angry with you! I knew something happened between you two, but he refused to tell me about it! I thought he had broken your favorite mug or something, but you were just jealous! Oh, Levi,” she straightened out, cupping his face in her hands. “You’re so adorable!”
“No one had ever called me that,” he replied gloomily. However, he didn’t move away, staring up at her.
“You know,” Hange leaned in. “This is definitely the part, where you kiss me.”
“Really?” Levi wrapped his hands around her waist. He rose to his tiptoes, so he could reach her lips. And then, finally, he kissed her.
It was a slow, languid and gentle kiss, different from the ones they’ve shared before. Those were needy and passionate, Levi liked them, but this one – oh, he could spend an eternity kissing Hange like this.
“Wow,” Hange breathed out, when they broke apart. She gingerly pressed her fingertips to her lips. Levi enjoyed the dazed look on her face. “That was… really good.”
Levi frowned. “You didn’t like our previous kisses?”
“No!” Hange hastily protested. “Those were awesome too! But this one, well, I didn’t know you could be so gentle.”
And, truth be told, neither did Levi. As it turned out, there were a lot of things he didn’t know about himself.
But with Hange by his side, maybe, he could figure it out.

Personal thoughts on Open Heart Second Year, Chapter 18
Note: As the title says, these are just personal opinions on Choices books and chapters. Of course, you may agree or disagree with them, I only use this platform to express my thoughts on what I read every week and what I’d like to see in the next chapters, because none of my friends play Choices so I have no one to comment the books with.
Last week I was so, so overwhelmed (in a good way) for everything that happened at that gala that I couldn’t even begin to write a post. My head was a mess! I had so much information on my mind that it was impossible for me to get one nice paragraph. Luckily, this means this week I have so much to say! So get ready, because this post is a long one!
First of all, let me tell you that after what happened this week, I’m betting for a 20 chapter book. It’s the only way I can see them making a proper closure to the story (with chapter 19 focused on saving Leland Bloom’s wife AND Edenbrook, and chapter 20 focused on fixing our own mess with our LIs).
I have mixed emotions on this chapter. At first, I absolutely loved it. It gave me such a rollercoaster of emotions that I just couldn’t help loving it. I went from being surprised to see Aurora back, to laughing with Zaid and Baz treating a patient together, to almost crying with the night out scene. I was really hyped! But then I replayed the chapter and I began to notice all those small details that you don’t notice when you first read it, and yeah, I have to agree with a lot of people who are as invested in this series as I am: something is not adding up after the rewrites.
As a person who’s romancing Ethan, Chapter 17 was a HUGE step in the relationship with the MC. The guy finally got rid of all his morals and his visions of what’s ethically correct dismantled the diagnostics team (aka “he’s not our boss anymore”) and decided to make things public with the MC (not “official”, but “public”). Now that I look at that moment in retrospective, I might understand the scene made sense so that the writers could finally level the field with people who are romancing Rafael, Jackie and Bryce. But this is when the first problem arises: the relationship with Rafael, Jackie or Bryce has never been public either. Sure, there has been some PDA between them and the MC throughout the whole series, but it’s not like our friends can say “oh, they’re a thing”, it’s not something evident. Why didn’t they use the gala for that? I simply don’t get it! They didn’t need to be “official”, just “public”. It was so easy, and I think it would have made things easier for the rest of the book.
And then we have this time jump… which now I’m beginning to realize it wasn’t as huge as we originally thought! Sure, we skipped Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year, and we went from winter to spring in, literally, one screenshot. So it may seem it’s been a long, long time since the gala… BUT… the book has been settled on winter since forever now (there was already snow in Chapter 13 when we returned to work!), so even though we know it’s been over a month since the gala (because, and here I quote Ethan Ramsey, “this will actually stretch our budget for much longer than we expected”), it’s not like we’ve been on that limbo for a really, really loooong time!
Of course, this doesn’t justify the fact that the relationships with the LIs were affected by this time gap. And this is where I think the writers made a huge mistake. I actually said something about it already, but the fact that we’re not staying in Boston to continue our residency (even though we know in the end we’ll stay) may be the thing that it’s delaying the fact that we’re not official with our LIs. Again, Rafael is staying in Boston… after the Panacea scandal, Jackie will go wherever she’s accepted… Bryce was looking at a hospital in Chicago… and the more I replay the chapter, the more I think Ethan is overworking to avoid thinking about his own future (yup, he is a mess and he’s delaying the inevitable… as usual). But this doesn’t mean we don’t want to know what’s going on with our relationship… like… long distance? breaking up? enjoying it while it lasts? Chapter 18 was the right moment to have “the talk” (there were at least two moments in the chapter that would have worked perfectly: those free individual scenes that we had with our LIs… or during the night out, after Ethan joined the gang at the helipad) and it didn’t happen… and yes, it’s disappointing and frustrating. They missed a HUGE opportunity.
Despite all this, this chapter gave us a bunch of good scenes:
1. The hospital scenes. This was a brief moment, but it was simply beautiful. In Chapter 17, we realized that “everything was about the mission” and that seemed to be a breaking point for everyone at Edenbrook. Seeing all of them working as the huge team they are, everyone overworking and helping each other just to help as many people as possible gave me all those community vibes that we constantly hear about in this series. I definitely need more of this in Book 3. The fact that they also connected all this madness with the closure of our interns plots was a nice detail. Can you believe that Gary Garrison was definitely the “last man standing”? Also, did you notice that Sothy and Elijah’s plot changes depending on the choices you made in past chapters? And I want to think that Sienna and Mitch finally talking about what happened will give her the peace of mind she needs and deserves.
2. Bryce’s diamond scene. I had so much fun with the Lahelas in Book 2. I love these two… I just can’t stop making puppy eyes every time we have a chance to witness such a wonderful relationship between these siblings. And Keiki leaving to boarding school was the happy ending they deserved. I’m so glad to see that there won’t be a new drama for them and that their parents agreed to send Keiki to boarding school. I loved to see how much Bryce grew in Book 2 (you know that I’ve always loved him, but now I came to consider him a “national treasure” type of guy) and how he really made his biggest effort to become the best version of himself we’ve seen so far. I’m so proud of him that it hurts!
3. Esme’s plot. It was nice to see that the relationship with her actually changes based on our choices. It still bothers me that we won’t know if she did it on purpose or not (I really hope we get to know the truth by the end of the book), but I felt proud of defending her after seeing how she seemed to be the only one who actually cared about Levi in that negotiation between his parents and the board, where everything was about “how much is Levi worth”. And I have to say that I fully agree with what Esme tells us if we don’t defend her… let’s be honest, the main reason why we got away with all Mrs. Martinez stuff was because PB was already planning a Book 2 of what Ethan did for us at the hearing.
4. The night out with our friends. We asked for it for a really, really long time. Book 2 was so focused on the hospital stuff that we missed those moments with our friends. It was so different from Vegas! It was intimate, it was emotional, there was this much needed bonding between the gang… there was a heart to heart that was long overdue! It was definitely a proper temporary goodbye to them. Besides what I mentioned before about “the talk”, I don’t think I would’ve changed anything about this scene.
By now, the final chapters of the book seem pretty obvious. I mean… Leland Bloom is a BILLIONAIRE and he loves to negotiate. Will he save Edenbrook if we save his wife? Absolutely, there is no question! We know the man is an ass****, but we also know how much he ADORES his wife and how genuine their marriage is (it’s 100% true love). She is also a caring woman, so I definitely don’t want to see her die. But how will they approach it? And here is where I want to see something HUGE happening (fingers crossed!). We know that the diagnostics team has been reduced to three people: the MC, Baz, and Ethan. BUT, at the same time, we have a full staff of people available to help (in the words of Ethan, “The other departments have taken the diagnostics team’s lead”... which leads to an inconsistency because the team is supposedly dismantled). So not only I see our team solving the case, but also everyone at the hospital involved on it. I can see Caroline Bloom taken by the paramedics to be admitted to Edenbrook, the nurses taking care of her, our friends helping to solve the case as part of the diagnostics team, Bryce, Harper and Tanaka performing some surgery, Kyra working on the paperwork… I’d love to see that, in the end, saving Edenbrook was a group effort and not only something like “the diagnostics team saved the hospital from closing”. That would be so, so nice to see and it would give every single character in this book the recognition they deserve!

By my side - Levi x reader
Tumblr media
A few months had passed since you had broken up with Levi and you genuinely felt better. Your small inferiority complex had subsided and thanks to Hanji you felt like everyday was a small adventure on its own. It kinda pained you to admit that you felt much safer by her side than when you were alongside Levi’s squad.
But if you felt that much better...then what was that empty feeling you couldn’t get rid of?
The answer was simple, but you didn’t want to admit it since you felt like you had no right to actually mourn what had happened. You were the one who wanted to end it all after all. Levi begged you not to do it and tried apologizing to you countless of times, but no matter what he did or said, you just shook your head and remained silent.
“(Y/N)! Are you even listening?”
Hanji’s cheerful and loud voice interrupted your train of thoughts, making you realize that as of right now the two of you were sharing a table in the Survey Corps’ lunchroom while having a small meal before starting your day.
“Sorry Hanji, I was just thinking about something. Would you mind running that by me again?“
With a small pout on her lips she obliged and answered: “So, as I was saying...Erwin asked us to go out today and examine a titan they caught a day ago.“
It was hard to not get hyped up for the mission while observing the big grin on her face.Instead of answering, you nodded multiple times, excited to finally be able to go out again which just resulted into you being teased by your comrade ending with the two of you laughing loudly attracting all kind of looks from the cadets.
But there was one look in particular that differed from any other.
Levi...
He looked at you from the corners of his eyes while silently drinking his tea. Seeing you smile like that made him feel relieved, he had always known that a smile suited you way more than anything else, but knowing that you were able to smile like that because he wasn't a part of your life anymore only made him feel worse.
Every time he looked at you, Levi couldn't help but remember the fight you guys had back in his office. The moment you jumped at him and began punching his face, he was quite startled and even if he could have protected himself he decided against it, knowing that you weren't that type of person to randomly throw punches without a good reason.
After you had broken up with him, he himself was quite depressed and even if he tried hiding it it was taking a toll on him. It all started with small mistakes like being slightly late or forgetting to tie his shoelaces, but it all took a turn to the worse when his mistakes began getting in the way of his missions. Erwin had then called him to his office, he didn't ask any questions since he already knew what the reason behind Levi's change was. All he did was promise to tell him everything what happened around and with you in exchange for Levi reverting back to his old self.
That idea seemed good at first and it even motivated him to a degree, but after some weeks he realized that he might have been better off not knowing anything. He was in constant worry for you and gruesome scenarios just kept on entering his head and dominating his thoughts, the worst part of it all was that up until now you've only been on missions inside of the walls, but never outside...not up until now.
Yesterday Erwin had left him a small note on his desk that said Hanji and you would be leaving the walls to examine a titan, he almost fainted then and there but the thought that he'd see at least see you one more time before that made him worry less.
Suddenly Hanji's loud voice interrupted his train of thoughts. She was standing right besides his table, wide grin on her face and next to her was none other than you...smiling. Smiling? Yes, you were smiling. At him no less. Even if this wasn't your most brightest smile, his heart was still thumping hard against his chest, but thanks to his permanent poker face he was able to hide his excitement quite well from the both of you.
"What do you want shitty glasses?"
The woman completely ignored his harsh comment and proceeded telling him about your mission. Not only was your former capitan good in hiding his emotions but he was also pretty good in acting. The whole time Hanji talked he simply nodded and took several glances at you which you failed to notice. She couldn't finish her entire repertoire, thanks to Mike who came over urging you two to get yourselves ready for the departure.
You whispered a quiet 'goodbye' to your former capitan, but before you could follow your superior, Levi suddenly grabbed your wrist. His hold was firm, but also gentle at the same time, it made you unintentionally remember the times he had held you and that only caused your heart rate to quicken.
"(Y/N)...please be careful"
His gentle voice didn't help you with your embarrassment, the only thing it did was worsen it. You refused to look into his face so you just nodded.
Levi sighed, letting go of your wrist as walked past you. The only thing you could do was close your eyes, praying that he didn't see how red your face was.
——
How could this happen?
All you did was turn around in order to look at the countless notes Hanji had thrown on the ground. Who could’ve thought that the Titan would use that short moment to actually grab you?
A small shriek had left your mouth when you felt the enormous hand tightly wrap around your body. Fortunately Erwin had sent you out with some soldiers (just in case) and they didn’t hesitate to come to your aid before the titan squeezed the life out of you. You were saved quickly, but you didn’t come out of that situation unharmed.
——
“What the hell happened?”
Levi was fuming.
The moment he saw Mike and some other soldier carry you on a stretcher, he dropped everything he was working on and was running after them asking question after question, managing to convince Mike to explain everything that had happened.
Seeing humanity’s strongest soldier sitting in front of the nursing room completely hunched over, face buried in his hands was something no one would’ve dared to even dream about so seeing exactly that was beginning to make some soldiers question either their vision or their sanity.
But Levi couldn’t care less about all of that, right now the only thing he cared about was your health. He still had a lot of questions for Mike, but Levi figured that he’d like to hear the rest from the doctors. He didn’t want any motivational lies...all he wished for right now was the hard truth.
“Captain Ackerman, our work’s done.”
Without looking up the captain just let his hands sink and he stood up, eyes still fixated on his shoes. He didn’t utter a single word, but the doctors knew what he wanted so they provided him with exactly that.
“Everything’s fine now. Luckily (Y/N) was brought here quite quickly so we were able to prevent any fatal injury that would’ve resulted from her broken rib.”
The tension immediately left Levi’s body after he took a deep breath, eyes finally facing forward. Once again words weren’t needed, the soldier just walked towards the nursing room’s closed door and opened it as quietly as he could.
——
You slowly came back to your senses due to a sharp pain in your chest, your whole body felt like it had been hit by a gigantic truck and when you recalled what actually got you in this situation in the first place, it wasn’t that much of a surprise.
But there was something else besides pain. You felt a gentle warmth envelop your left hand, making you wonder if that was just your imagination.
So you slowly began opening your eyes and the first thing you saw was the familiar ceiling of the nursery room. With slow movements you turned your head to the left and what you saw stunned you.
The person who was holding your hand and gently circled your knuckles with his fingers was Levi. He seemed to be lost in his thoughts since he still hadn’t noticed you glancing at his profile.
“Levi...”
The sound of your raspy voice immediately made him turn his head and look at you, worry contorting his normally calm facial features.
“(Y/N)...you’re awake. Oh thank god”
Seeing him wrap both of his hands around your own while silently whispering ‘thank you’ multiple times made your heart ache and you could feel how some tears were slowly making your eyes glassy.
“I can’t do this anymore (Y/N). Every single day I’m worried sick when I hear that you’ll be on a mission without having me by your side and today I even warm you to be careful and look what happens! Your broken rib could’ve perforated your lungs or even worse your heart! What would I have done if that happened, huh?!”
Levi raising his voice like that was something you had never seen happening and additionally to that he himself looked like he was about to cry and that made you feel even sadder.
You watched him completely lose his calm composure, watched his poker face being substituted by countless other expressions you had never seen, watched his whole body tremble like a leaf that was being shaken by the wind, watched how his lips moved quicker than ever before and the only thing you could do was slowly get up and embrace him.
Even if your chest still hurt you just ignored the pain and held him tighter against you. His trembling body began calming down until he finally wrapped his arms as carefully as he could around your body to show you that he was now calm enough and that it was fine to let him go, but you refused.
“You’re being unfair (Y/N), embracing me like that and then refusing to let me go. How am I supposed to forget you under these circumstances?”
“Said the person who waited for me to wake up.”
He placed his forehead in the crack of your neck and sighed in defeat, you on the other hand just giggled and gently caressed his back. Somewhere deep inside of you you had missed that warm feeling of his embrace.
“(Y/N)...I love you, I’ve never stopped loving you. Since our fight I’ve been thinking nonstop about you and the things you said to me, made me realize that it was completely wrong of me to use you as my punching bag and I regret it...I really regret it. I even thought that it really might be better for you to not be by my side since I saw how much more cheerful you were compared to back then, but please let me be selfish about one thing. I want you- no...I want us to be back together like before, laugh with each other like before, spend time together like before and most importantly...love each other like before. P-Please...allow me to change everything I did wrong by myself so that I can make you happy again.”
He had no idea just how much it pained you to find out his true feelings, but you were more overjoyed to actually find out that he still loved and wanted you back as much as you wanted him. So you decided to answer him by simply kissing his lips, letting the kiss do all the talking for you, Levi afraid that this would be your last kiss just cupped your face and returned it with the same passion.
When you wanted to separate yourself from him, the man simply whispered a low ‘one more time’ and continued kissing you until his and your lungs gave out.
It was now your turn to answer him, but first you had to catch your breath while he simply continued kissing your face and neck.
“Levi, you have always been on my mind, even after our fight, but I kept on thinking that I had absolutely no right to mourn since I was the one suggesting a breakup. I realized just how lonely I felt without you by my side, but I tried to mask it with fake smiles and laughter, hoping that it would be easier for me to let go of you..but I just couldn’t. And no Levi...I’m not going to allow you to change yourself on your own.”
The man didn’t know if he should be happy or sad since your last statement gave him mixed feelings, but the wide smile you showed him was answer enough.
“You are going to change yourself while standing...by my side.”

a/n: wheee thank u anon for requesting this! hope you enjoy it!
summary: when emily comes back from the death, Y/n can’t be anything except happy, because her girl is back. she can come hom again.
Tumblr media
It had been a week. Seven days. You never knew time could pass so fast, yet so slow at the same time. It felt as if time wasn’t anythng more than a concept you had escaped. You felt utterly numb, and while it was better than the devastation you’d expected, it felt wrong. Everything felt wrong. Your home felt too big, without Emily. The fridge too full, without her snacking at two in the morning, the couch needed more pillows.
It was stupid, and you knew that. Emily had been gone for cases longer than seven days. A week. And yet, this felt so different. It was different, because, as much as you hadn’t yet accepted it, she wasn’t coming back. Every day would be a day without Emily. When you thought about it, it was worse than a nightmare. Your nightmares had always been plagued with her getting hurt, but you’d never imagined her…
--
It had been a week, since you’d buried her. A little more since she had died. You wished you’d lost count, or wished you had the strength to go to her grave. You didn’t have the energy to do anything, didn’t feel the need to do anything. Your friends came with food, they switched shifts, but they all did the same.
They made you food, you ate together, them talking about funny things that happened, until they weren’t even sure if you were with them, mentally. Then, they’d hold your hand, whispered encouraging things, like: “the pain will ease”, “time heals all wounds”, “if you want to take your mind off of things, I’m free”. It was useless, but you’d smile, squeezing their hand back, and said “thank you”, like you were supposed to.
You felt numb, were still waiting for that feeling to change into sadness. You felt like the pain would crash in, you were waiting for the cracked glass to break. Your breaking point was near, and in a way, you hoped it would come. It felt like you weren’t mourning enough, as stupid as that sounded.
You couldn’t sleep, it was always filled with her, which made waking up even worse. You couldn’t eat, not when she couldn’t anymore. You weren’t even hungry. If it weren’t for your friends, you would not eat, drink, or shower. You supposed it was a bit better than crying for days.
But, life goes on, and on the eight day, you went back to work. They gave you simple tasks. You needed to get out, your mom came to clean your place for you. It was routine, but it did take your mind off things, even if it was just for a moment. At the end of the day, you offered a coworker a genuine smile, when she handed you a thick file that needed to be processed before the end of the month. It was more time than she should have given you, so you were grateful. You could spent your sleepless nights going over files, now.
As you walked home, you began to think that maybe that was your life without Emily. Empty. It felt like it would always be like that.
You unlocked the door, the smell of lavander coming towards you. Your mother did use nice smelling products. That’s what you thought, at least. As you dropped your bag and moved further into the house, the smell got stronger.
There were flowers on the table. Your mother thought flowers were a dumb gift, as much as you’d always loved to have them in house. She wouldn’t buy you these. With trembling fingers, you reached for the note, feeling like your heart might beat out of your chest.
It was a simple, handwritten note, with ‘flower subscription Levi’ on the back. As fast as your heart was beating, it suddenly stopped. Emily paid for this, paid them to deliver flowers every two weeks. She must’ve paid for the month. You opened the note, tears springing in your eyes for the first time since the funeral.
“Because you make me the happiest woman in the world, love Emily”
A sob so loud it almost couldn’t be human, left your mouth as your knees threatened to give out under you. You chocked on your own breath, a hand clasped in front of your mouth to keep the sounds in as tears rolled over your cheeks. You couldn’t see anything, it was like everything, the past eight days, came at you all at once.
She was never coming back.
She was gone.
She was under the ground.
She wasn’t with you.
She’d never be with you again.
You clutched the note to your chest, not bothering to get a chair and just let yourself slide on the ground, until you were sitting there, head on your knees, crying your eyes out. It could have been ten minutes, it could have been ten hours. You didn’t know, and you didn’t care. The tears finally stopped enough for you to sniff, move to the bathroom and get dressed for bed. The note was still in your hand. You couldn’t stop the occasional tear from rolling over your cheeks, but you were in one of her sweaters and your pajama bottoms. You entered the bedroom, but stopped in your tracks.
On the bed, was a stack of pictures. Your mom must have found them, thought you might like to look at them. But you knew those pictures. They were all with Emily, had been in a small box in your closet. You’d taken selfies and pictures of her every date, hoping to one day make a picture book. That was never going to happen now. You weren’t even sure if you could look at them. At least, not now.
You backed away slowly, closing the door and moving to the couch instead. Under a blanket, with the note pressed to your chest, you cried yourself to sleep, into the first dreamless night in eight days.
--
After that, it started to get better. Three weeks later, you looked through the pictures, four weeks later, you hung them up. Week six, you went through her stuff. You couldn’t throw any of it away, not just yet, but you put it in the attic, with the help of JJ, who had ended up on your doorstep.
Week seven, Derek and Spencer asked if you wanted a ride to her grave. You went for the first time since the funeral. A week later, you went by yourself, a small bouquet of daisies with you. She’d brought you daisies on your first date. Desîte the flower subscription, she sometimes still brought back daisies with a kiss. “You deserve them unexpectedly, too.” She’d say, and you’d smile for the rest of the day.
Time went on, and while you missed her everyday, life started to gain some color again. You knew for certain that you’d never see some colors again, though. There were colors that had only been Emily’s, and you’d lost that. But the orange of a sunset came back, the blue of the lake, the green of the grass, and the stars eventually began to sparkle a bit brighter again, too.
You were far from fine, but you were dealing, coping, learning how to live with a wound that would forever be there. You were learning how to live without a part of you.
--
“Hey, what’s up?” You said, leaning back against the wall of your office building. You wanted to go on a lunch break with a coworker when Derek called. You went outside to take it as he dealed with the last things before he could leave. “Haven’t heard from you in ages, you’re better calling to go to a club or something, I have the weekend off, so if you’re in town-” You rambled, before Derke stopped you.
“Y/n,” He said, and your smile dropped. you recognized that voice. It’s the same one he used when he said what had happened.
“Oh god, is everything okay?” You tucked strands of hair behind your ear that weren’t even loose, pushed yourself away from the wall and began pacing, light panic settling in you.
“Yeah, but… you should come. I can’t really… explain on the phone.”
He seemed at loss of words, and you began fumbling for your keys. Why would he need you, not even a cop, to come to the office? “I’ll be there in fifteen.”
“Okay,” He said, hanging up. No teasing, no banter, nothing. Nothing, nothing, nothing. Something had to be very wrong, then.
You passed the speed limit a few times, had to stop yourself from going even faster. You were scared, anxious. You didn’t know what was going on, but it couldn’t be much good.
Derek was waiting for you, letting you in.
You rushed into the elevator, unable to stand still, but unable to move at the same time. your heart was racing in your chest, and you pressed your nails in your palm, anything to stop your mind from going from bad to worse. Derek just looked at you, not sure if he should say something. If he was being honest, he was speecheless himself.
The doors, after what felt like an eternity, slid open. No one of the team was in sight, you guessed briefing room, then. You hurried up the stairs, your breath stuck in your throat, your body shaking ever so slightly, although you couldn’t say for sure why.
The blinds were closed, and you shifted on your feet before knocking. Hotch opened the door. “Y/n,” He said, his expression not telling much. “Good. Come in.”
He let you in, and for a moment, you didn’t understand why you had to come. But then, you thought you saw a ghost. You could feel the color drain from your face, a violent shake setting into your limbs. You couldn’t even find the words the describe what you were feeling, it was everything all at once.
“Y/n,” You hadn’t even believed she was real in the first place, having a brain tumor that made you see things seemed like a more logical explanation. But when she spoke, you knew it was her. You’d lost touch of her voice as time had passed, although you’d never forgotten how it made you feel. But now, it was too much. She spoke, and she said your name in her tone. She moved, it was only a step, but she moved. And she was alive. Alive. You took a step, slowly, tasting if your legs could still carry you. Then, you realized you didn’t care. You would crawl, would drag yourself forwards with you teeth, if you had to. You bolted, it was only a few steps, but you’d never moved that quick in your life.
Her arms opened right in time for you to stumble into. Your arms around her neck as you pulled her closer. She was here. You hadn’t felt the tears until you couldn’t see anymore. You buried your face in her neck. She smelt the same. You’d forgotten what she smelt like; her shampoo was still branded in your memory, but it didn’t smell the same in the bottle.
You wished you could say something, anything at all, but you’d swallowed all your words, and none wanted to come out. You stayed like that for a long while. The team left the room, giving you some privacy.
Eventually, you found words. Or, only one, at least. “Emily,” You whispered, your voice breaking. “You’re-” How were you supposed to finish that?
“I’m alive,” She said softly. You pulled back a bit, bringing your hand to her chest. She was alive, her heart was beating fast and steady, and your breath hitched. Tears rolled over your cheeks, and you were sure you’d drown in them.
“But, how?” You managed to get out, not ready to let go yet.
“I- it was too dangerous to stay.” That didn’t answer anything, but your mind wasn’t ready to ask those questions.
“You’re back?” You whispered, leaning your forehead against hers, giving her time to pull away. Seven months was a long time, a lot could have happened. But she didn’t pull away, she threaded her fingers through your hair, it felt familiar.
“I am,” She said, letting a tear slip. “I’m not leaving you again, I’m so sorry.”
You sniffed, realizing you felt relieve, happiness. “Can I kiss you?”
She looked at you, glancing for only a moment, but it was so familiar and new at the same time you wanted to scream. Then, she connected your lips. It tasted like tears, your lipbalm, and the lipstick Emily couldn’t be spotted without. Your hands moved to her face, pulling her even closer. You couldn’t imagine letting her go, not anytime soon.
“I’ve missed you, I’ve mourned you,” You began, not knowing how to finish as you closed your eyes. Emily wiped at your tears, and her hands were warm, they were warm, and pulsing with blood, and were alive.
“I’m sorry.” She seemed at loss of words, too. It was okay, you could talk later. She was alive, and she was back.
“I’m just glad you’re back.” You chocked out, sniffing before smiling softly.
She smiled, too. Your heart and stomach made backflips, and it was as of you were falling in love all over again. “I’m back home.” She said, looking you in the eye, and it was hard to miss what she meant.
You kissed her again, not able to put all the emotions in it. “I-” You tried, but failed. It was too much; you were feeling too much, and too little at the same time. The only thing you were aware of, was that your chest felt too small for your heart.
“We can talk later,” She muttered. “When we’re… recovered.”
You chuckled, your grip not faltering. “Give me a year, then.”
She closed her eyes with a smile leaning into your touch. You could sense the million sorry’s she wanted to say, but couldn’t yet. You wanted to say that it wasn’t okay, but you couldn’t. She was back, and that was all that mattered.
“I love you.” You said. Your voice surprisingly strong. “I can’t wait to give you flowers instead of…”
“We’ll talk this out, okay?” She took a step back, and instantly, you could think a bit more clear. “I love you too, just… I haven’t stopped loving you.”
“Are you coming home?” You whispered, not sure if you wanted to know the answer. “I still have your stuff. Most is stored, but-”
She looked surprised, as if she hadn’t expected you to. “You- you want me to?”
“Yeah,” You looked at her in disbelief. “You’re alive, I missed you in the house. Missed you in the kitchen, missed you when I slept-” As your emotions were settling, you began to realize you maybe weren’t so okay. But how could you be mad when she was right in front of you? When she was breathing and well?
“I’m-”
“Don’t,” You closed your eyes, fighting the tears. “I love you. Come home, please.”
She hesitated, before she nodded. “Okay, I’ll come home.” Home sounded foreign on her tongue, and you were curious about all the what’s, why’s, how’s… but now wasn’t the time. You didn’t know when would be the time, but you were so relieved, happy, shaken, by her being back. It felt as a gift, as if someone wanted you to see all color again, as if someone wanted you to have the life you pictured you’d have. And now, maybe you could.
You smiled at her, a smile you should have given her earlier; love, admiration, relief, sadness… everything was in your smile, but it only told Emily how much you cared, even after all this time, even after what she put you through.
She was thankful; thankful for you, for waiting, in a way. She was thankful, that she could come back home. You might see it as a house, but to her, being in a room with you was home, although your house was better than the briefing room.
It wasn’t okay yet, but when she smiled back, you knew it would be. Everything would be okay again. You’d follow her to the end of the world, would never let her go again. She was okay, and that meant you were okay. There were things to talk about, but they had to wait. You were just glad to have her back; to have that extra pint of color back, that extra dose of smiles, and that extra dose of love.

Petra can’t even remember what they were fighting about. Nowadays, it seems like they fight about everything and nothing at all. They fight over the most trivial of matters, things that she can’t recall when she wakes up the next morning. It’s never violent, but it always hurts.
It didn’t use to be like this. It used to be easier when they were young and dumb and still in love. When they first moved in together, Petra was ecstatic and she knew Levi was too even if he was too emotionally stunted to show it. He sat beside her as she flipped through the furniture catalog, nodding at every piece she pointed at no matter how ridiculous it was. She accused him of not really paying attention, laughing at him and saying there was absolutely no way that he was okay with the horrific leopard-print bean bag chairs she jokingly picked out for their living room. He only backtracked then, saying that he didn’t particularly care for it but he’d find a way to like it if that’s what she absolutely wanted, and she laughed at him even more. They ended up not buying anything that Petra had chosen, opting for a more contemporary theme rather than whatever ridiculous piece she could find in the catalog. It ended up quite nice - more monochrome than she had been hoping for - but there were a few touches here and there that made it a little cozier. She liked the fuzzy beige rug that they had put in, the one Levi complains about because he thinks vacuuming is a bitch, and the plush pillows decorating the otherwise plain gray couch with their zig-zag patterns. Petra honestly hadn’t liked it very much at first. She preferred a more traditional look while Levi leaned towards more modern pieces, but contemporary felt like a good compromise between the two. At first glance, it looked more cool than cozy, but nothing felt more like home when she and Levi were on the couch, their limbs lazily entangled after eating leftover Chinese takeout from the night before.
She can hardly stand to be in their apartment now. She hates its muted tones, its lack of color, the sharp lines, and the lack of curves. It’s been a month since she’s been home before nine, and she usually leaves early in the morning before the sun even has a chance to rise. The apartment that was once her home - their home - is now merely a place for her to sleep and shower. Even on the weekends, she’s found excuses to be out, choosing to work in the office during the weekend on made-up projects instead of resting at home. It’s probably the same for Levi, she thinks, because she’s hardly seen him at all. She can’t complain though. It’s easier to avoid someone if they’re avoiding you too.
A year ago, she never would have imagined willingly being apart from Levi for more than a day or two. She would have missed him too much. She liked resting in his arms after a long day at work, and she knows he found comfort when she curled up against him under the sheets. Even his presence was enough to soothe her, and she felt solace in knowing that he would be waiting for her at the apartment when she returned. A year isn’t even that long ago, but it feels like such days happened in a different lifetime.
She can’t say for certain when all this fighting had begun, but she knows how it started. It was probably a little less than two months ago when she told him her work was giving her a promotion. He didn’t smile - Levi was never really one to smile even when he was happy - but the corner of his mouth twitched upward and he reached up to brush a lock of hair from her face.
“It’s in Manchester,” she told him.
“Manchester like …,” he said, eyes widening slightly.
“Like … England,” Petra said slowly. She was ecstatic at first when she heard the news and she was even more excited to share it with Levi, but looking at his expression made her regret not keeping the news to herself. It was a little painful looking at him, but she did genuinely believe it was a good opportunity for the both of them. It just made sense for her professionally and financially and Levi … well, he had been holding onto this city for so long. The only things left for him were memories of people that had already gone. She was hoping that she wouldn’t be another person to contribute to that list.
Levi was silent for a moment, looking at her but his thoughts were a million miles away. “Manchester …,” he repeated. He withdrew his hand from her face. “Are you taking it?”
“Of course,” Petra replied without hesitation. She saw him flinch the tiniest bit and she swore at herself inwardly. She should have paused for a second or two before giving a reply. Desperately, she reached out for him, taking his hands gently in hers. “I think it’s a wonderful opportunity. It’s a lot better than my current role at the company. Is that … bad?”
Her words seemed to snap him out of his reverie. “Of course not,” he said hastily. He squeezed her hands just a little too hard. “It’s great. It’s what you’ve wanted right?”
Somehow, the truth felt like the wrong answer, but she couldn’t bring herself to lie to him. “Yes,” she breathed, and she could see his face fall just the tiniest bit before he looked away.
“England’s pretty far away,” he said after a moment.
“I guess so.” She never had to pick her words carefully around Levi before, but speaking to him now felt like walking on eggshells. No, this was much more difficult than walking on eggshells. Eggshells were much less easy to break. Cautiously, she asks, “It’s nice, isn’t it? It would be nice to go together.”
He didn’t answer, not right away. It was difficult to gauge what he was feeling. His face could be unfathomable when he wanted it to be. What was he thinking about now?  His mother? His uncle? His friends? Her? “It’s what you deserve, Petra,” he says. His eyes flit downward before looking over at her with a gaze that’s almost wistful. “Still, it’s far.”
“We’ll make it work,” she told him, but she felt as if she were pleading. “It’ll all work out, Levi.”
“Of course,” he said, but she detected hesitancy in his voice. He leaned toward her, brushing his lips against her temple, but he pulled away too soon. If she had known it would be their last moment of tenderness, she would have pulled him closer and held onto him tighter, but he slipped away from her a little too easily, disappearing into the corner of their apartment to spend time on a work project that Petra’s not even sure existed.
He hasn’t really talked to her since then, but she’s never really talked to him about it either. Really, they were both at fault. Maybe there was the possibility of resolving it all if they only took the time to talk about it together, but there was a slim chance that it would only widen the distance between them even further. In the end, Petra decided that it was better not to talk about it. When the time came, they could work it out together, she thought, but now it’s a week before her flight and she’s not certain of anything anymore.
That night Petra came home early, or at least earlier than usual. The sun had just set and she had decided to take off for the night. As much as she wanted to, she couldn’t keep putting off packing just because she was afraid of bumping into Levi and shoving the topic of Manchester in his face. Besides, there’s a chance that he would be out late again just like all those other nights. Somehow it doesn’t surprise her when she turns the key to their apartment and opens the door to find him in the living room, but all the boxes and suitcases lying on the floor do.
“What’s … going on?” Petra asks. She takes a cautious step forward. The entire space is unfamiliar to her now even though it’s exactly the same, only emptier. She had thought it was unfriendly before with all of its black and gray and white, but now it looks even more so with all of Levi’s things gone. When she turns to look at Levi, he just sits there on top of the coffee table they had picked out. His expression isn’t angry, isn’t sad, isn’t anything except … tired. It makes Petra want to scream and cry and beg all at once, but she can’t find the energy.
“I’m leaving,” Levi says warily. He pushes himself off the coffee table and reaches for the handle of a suitcase, pulling it out and dragging it behind him as he walks towards her. It’s scary to her how little emotion he has in his face. “I can’t stay here anymore.”
She should at least ask him why, but they’ve been through enough for her to know the answer without asking. It’s a little bit unfair, she thinks. He should have let her leave first. She’s not used to it like he is. Then again, maybe that’s why he’s leaving in the first place.
Out of everything they’ve been through, Petra thinks this is the worst. She would rather he had left with more of a fight. She wants screaming and fighting and crying. She wants him to slam the door behind him only to come back the next morning, crawling onto the side of the bed she had left open for him. He would stay far enough away that they couldn’t reach out to each other, but at least he would be close enough for her to know that he was there. And that was all the apology he would ever give her, but that was the only apology she ever needed.
He stops right in front of her, the suitcase still behind him. “I’ll come for the rest of my things tomorrow. It’ll be early in the morning, so you don’t have to worry,” he says. He pauses for a bit, choosing his next words carefully. “You don’t have to worry … about all of my things.”
She’s not worried about any of that - his things being in the way or bumping into him again when he came to collect the rest of his items - but she was worried about one thing. “What about you?” Petra asks. She tries to ask it as calmly as she can. She tries not to step in front of him, her futile attempt to stop him from leaving. “Where will you stay?”
Levi sighs and looks up at the ceiling, tired, before looking back at her. It looks as if he hasn’t slept in weeks. He’s never been much of a sleeper, but he looks especially tired now. “I’ll crash at Mike and Nanaba’s for a bit before finding a new apartment. I’d stay in this one but…” Levi gestures around them, at the apartment they once called home now only half-full. “It’s a little too big for just one person.”
She knows exactly what he means, but that doesn’t mean her heart doesn’t break anyway. She hadn’t really thought of what would happen to the apartment when she left. It was stupid of her to believe that he would continue living here even after she was gone. There are too many traces of her - of them - on every surface, every corner, every crevice of this space. It’s why she feels the smallest bit of relief knowing that she’ll be able to escape it soon. Why, then, does it hurt to know he feels the same way?
“I guess you’re leaving then,” she finally says.
“Yeah.” He takes one final look at Petra before pushing past her and reaching for the door. He turns the handle too abruptly, steps out too suddenly, leaves too quickly.
Wait, Petra wants to say. She should burst through the door and chase after him. She should be gripping his wrist so tightly that her knuckles turn white. She should be on her knees, begging him to stay while tears stream down her face. Please don’t leave me.
But it’s too late and he’s gone already, leaving her empty like the room she stands in. She doesn’t know how she gets through the rest of the day. The sun sets and night falls, but Petra doesn’t notice the time passing by. She’s not sure what she ate for dinner, if she even ate at all, and she’s not sure how she ended up in bed or how she managed to fall asleep. Vaguely, she recalls setting an alarm, 5 AM or some other ungodly time, in the hopes of catching Levi before her flight at the end of the week, but when she stumbles out of the bedroom, she finds the apartment vacated except for the things he had left behind.
The days after that become more and more painful. Everywhere Petra looks, she finds a reminder of him. The kitchen that he cleaned meticulously every night. The bathroom sink where he cut himself shaving once because he was too busy looking over at her from the corner of his eye. The living room couch they slept on half the time because they were too tired from work to walk to the bedroom. It becomes so unbearable that she briefly thinks about renting a room at a hotel for a day or two, but she knows leaving this place will be even more painful. Instead, she wraps herself up in the sheets where his scent still lingers and sleeps as often as she can.
Somehow she makes it to the end of the week, even makes it to the airport, all her belongings packed and their old furniture picked up yesterday by the thrift store on the corner of the street. She didn’t have to worry about the apartment or their lease. Levi had already worked it out with the landlord before he left. Of course, he did. She has tried to hate him, but she’s found it impossible. It might just be easier for her to keep remembering until she finally forgets the curve of his cheek or the way his bangs fall in his eyes. Yes, she thinks as she closes her eyes, letting the escalator carry her to her next destination. It can’t hurt to remember him for just a little while longer.
It wasn’t supposed to end, but there are some things that are beyond their control. But at least she has memories. When she’s lonely, she can remember them with their fingers interlocked, her leaning over and whispering in Levi’s ear. When she’s sad, she can remember the way it felt when he stroked her hair, tucking it behind her ear so that he could see her face better. When she’s close to sleep, she can dream of him, the way he said his name with the slightest hint of a smile on his face.
Petra.
For a moment, Petra thinks she hears his voice and, although she knows it’s impossible, she turns anyway. She searches for Levi’s face in a sea of strangers, and she feels the hollow in her chest grow even deeper when she comes up with nothing.
Petra steps off the escalator and takes a few steps before stopping. Closing her eyes, she takes a deep breath. She clears her head of Levi, but she knows he’ll return in her thoughts later tonight. With a sigh, she opens her eyes and takes a step, finally leaving.

Hello there! I couldn't help but notice that salty anon asking about your stance on Levi so I'll ask again because it sure sounds interesting! Do you mind telling us how you feel about him?
Tumblr media
Okay, so the original question from a dumb hater was how I could even support a romantic ship between Eren and Levi if I am not a Levi fan*.
*If a ”Levi fan”, like that idiotic anon meant, is someone who excuses all of Levi’s bad behaviors, then no, I am not a fan.
Premise no.1: I’ve loved Levi for so many years, he’s been part of my twitter handle in the past, is in my Tumblr url, icons on various social media, I have a lot of merchandise and not only for “the sake of the ship”. I genuinely used to love him to the point that he was my favorite character alongside Eren, I couldn’t pick one. So I guess I am a bit of a fan, after all.
Premise no.2: I am a gigantic bag of salt about this topic so tread carefully if you’re easily offended. I won’t sugarcoat my VERY BIASED opinions, and if you strongly disagree, that’s perfectly fine. I won’t change my opinion with the information we currently have, because this isn’t a gut reaction I spent two seconds on, I actually soul searched (lol) for the reasons as to why I felt so negatively about Levi. He was my fave, and I felt deeply hurt and confused and frustrated, so I thought long and hard about it. I am open to change my mind if anything else comes out of him in the future.
Also, I have already spent a lot of words on how I feel about Levi’s character as of late, here, here, and here, here, here and here for example, also here and here (I haven’t exactly been silent about it lol) but let me reiterate it into one incomplete post. It’s really freaking long, and a wall of text at it. I don’t expect people to put up with this messy rant, but suit yourself if you want to.
@ the people who sent these new questions almost a month ago, I’m sorry this isn’t the reply you hoped for. If you guys want a more positive take on this, just look through my ereri meta tag.
Levi as a character can be simplified in 3 points, in my opinion: 1) the deep, caring feelings he has for his comrades and as such the responsibility he feels for them and their deaths; 2) his violent side and how he resorts to violence to solve situations. These 2 merge together into 3) what used to be his main goal, free humanity. He lent his strength (that at times he uses for violence/to get his way) to the cause: helping in freeing humanity inside the walls because the sense of freedom is worth everything.
So, harsh opinion: I believe he has lost sight of his goal – as Isayama has stated in the past even though I didn’t wanna believe it because it made zero sense and cheapened everything I loved about Levi – and he has fallen back into his worst behaviors. Add to that a lack of active presence and engagement in the actual story, and you get this predictable, background character that I can’t for the life of me enjoy currently. Because apparently, he forgot how to live on his own without Erwin’s guidance (and here I’d have another bag of salt to pour but this would get too long, and I don’t have the patience to word it in a way that wouldn’t bring me the ire of his fans).
I don’t know if Levi is really supposed to be seen this way, but at least to me, the focus has been mostly on this: his anger/violence/flaws, and his lack of involvement.
I never liked the way he resorted to violence to “resolve” not life-or-death situations or simply to vent his frustrations, in the first place. It’s something Eren had to let go of, he was rewarded when he used his wits, abandoning pure rage for the sake of revenge, and it’s always been Isayama’s intention, imo, to show as much with the story in general and with Levi as well, as Levi has never been rewarded for it either.
So, witnessing his character revert AGAIN to kicks and straight-up sadism, as a fan, has been a big disappointment. Then, the shift of his goal because “saving humanity” wasn’t Erwin’s goal, after all, has been another point of disappointment – but this happened way before the current arc. His obsession with “making the dead soldiers’ sacrifices worth it” can be commendable, but the way he’s going about it is totally blind and dictated by anger and loss of hope, in a way, so I don’t see it as something positive either. He lacks vision, he lacks a voice in the things that are happening around him as if he doesn’t care whatever happens to all of them, as long as he can make Zeke suffer and kill him. I know it’s not totally the case, because we have seen (and I want to believe) that he still cares about his comrades who are still alive, as seen during the battle in Liberio and his reticence at following direct orders to kill Eren, but at the same time, the obsession with “repaying the lives of the dead” is making him being absolutely heartless for the sake of his “hope” (like, I’m paraphrasing here but he literally went “let’s go to war again and let Historia become a shifter if she so wants to, who cares, more deaths, yay”), though he himself doesn’t seem to care about hope and freedom and all this stuff that much anymore, or he would’ve spoken up about the mess Paradis and Hange were throwing themselves into, like Eren did.
Another point of dissatisfaction is that it seemed to me like he was forming stronger bonds with the 104th and he was becoming better at voicing his opinions without becoming violent, but I guess he either regressed, or I always read him wrong. His violence in 114 was downright revolting to me, I felt nauseous and, in a way, I’m glad he got k.o’ed. It put a stop to his metaphorical downfall, at least — I see post-timeskip Levi as a cheapened, worsened, “hyperfocused-on-just-one-side-of-him” version of the Levi I used to love in earlier arcs and he was only getting worse, imo.
And, as a special mention re: his violence and his relationship with Eren… It was interesting to observe how he slowly changed in regards to Eren, learning how to lift him up and get the best out of and for him, caring about and paying attention to Eren’s emotional state when no one could or would. It was also very interesting how he opened up to Eren just because he wanted to help him, always, from the beginning. THAT’S what really made me fall for the ship and for Levi.
Also, he thought that violence wasn’t the answer with Eren, and I guess I can excuse him for his behavior in Shiganshina because it was a charged challenge of sort for every character. But he really did think that nobody could make Eren submit with violence, yet he’s the one who tried to do exactly that as soon as they met again in ch.105. I was so disappointed that their relationship seemed to have regressed so much, I kept being hopeful only because of his face/words after the kick: he felt betrayed and saddened by Eren, so it meant he still cared deeply about him. And yeah, he does, but the reasons are also partially…bad.
Don’t get me wrong, I believe he cares about Eren as a person, the boy he met and decided to protect all those years ago, but now saving Eren has become deeply intertwined with saving his last remaining goal: making it up to the dead soldiers (and I’ve already explained why I think it’s not a “positive” goal). And it’s unfair and a skewed view, imo, because Eren really didn’t have much to do with every single death. But I think it’s Levi being desperate about it all, he clings to it or he’d lose it if he had to, um, reconsider his current mindset. He’s like…grasping at straws, I feel. Like he was doing with Erwin when Erwin revealed his true colors. Levi ended up reconsidering his own ideals and goals, back then, but in a bad way (he had no goals of his own, he just blindly followed Erwin, who cares about humanity, right? Even though he seemed to care oh so much before).
I guess it’s the downfall of the “Hero”. @/Isayama, was this necessary? Is this entertaining? I am personally not a fan of this, there were so many ways to challenge Levi’s belief & trust in Eren, and to still have Levi be an active player. This just feels like a cheap way to get him out of the picture and turn him into a really secondary character. He doesn’t feel like a main player in this arc.
So long story short, I’m very disappointed in his development. I was willing to go along with it in the hopes that it would be leading us to something very interesting and it seemed it could go into a good direction as I stated here. But when he seemed to be confirmed basically dead (literally, or anyway when it comes to his importance in current events), I’ve kind of lost all hope in regards to his character, and I felt so done about it. He is either gonna stay this way, or there’s gonna be some small, cheap, background-ish closure (though atm I fail to see how, seeing as the story is about to end) and if that’s the case, I fail to comprehend the purpose of his arc, then. I don’t think his is an unreasonable development, I just fail to see how the direction Isayama has decided to “develop” him in has any relevance to the story and its themes, as he used to be a major player with some good-ass, relevant presence in the story. As I said in some posts I linked above, Isayama may have lost motivation to develop Levi any further and dropped it from the “main players” roaster, probably when he decided to change Levi’s motivations halfway through the story (because yes, the problems I have with Levi started towards the end of Uprising).
I used to be a great Levi fan, if my username and icon are anything to go by, and I still like him when I reread some parts as I stated elsewhere, because I really, really love when he interacts with the 104th or like, with his subordinates or even Hange. It’s fun to watch and even cute, when he’s not being a violent arsehole. So it’s really a shame that it’s come to this.
And yeah, I’m sure some people may have noticed already, but the ereri content on my blog has become quite scarce, S3 and the shitfest that went down there in regards to Eren&Levi parts also dampened my hype for the ship, my dissatisfaction with Levi’s character and the way his interactions (or lack thereof) with Eren went recently just pissed me off. But I loved this ship for like 5 years, I’m attached to it, and I am capable of separating the good parts of it from the bad ones (though it’s become increasingly difficult). And most importantly, I still love the way their canon relationship was developed up until before the serum bowl. Almost nothing has happened with them since then, so that’s why I was still really hyped for the next 2 years, but recently, and with Levi’s return, I’ve just grown more frustrated and bored with it.
After all, I fell in love with the romantic fanon ship BECAUSE the canon relationship was so interesting, had potential, and seemed to be going some incredibly cool directions, as both the characters seemed to be similar, had the same goals and understood each other on a basic level. It turned out to be almost nothing in the end, but alas.
So, how can I ship them if I don’t like one of them?
I still like Levi, especially when I reread the early arcs. This doesn’t mean I have to accept the worst sides of him that have apparently taken over his whole personality. His violence ISN’T a flaw I - or anyone, imo - should accept. Snoring IS a flaw we can/have to accept if we love someone. Violence is something that must be overcome. My annoyance with people implying they are better fans because they accept and embrace and excuse him and his violence, compared to those who don’t like that, is also a factor in my frustration. Understanding why exactly he’s the way he is is part of being a fan of a character, wishing for him to become a better person and ultimately letting go of toxic (yeah) acquired behaviors, imo, is better than defending and hyping them up. Some people even LOVE and WISH that violence will be his downfall because it’s violence for the sake of avenging [redacted] so it’s sooo romantic. lmao, ok. And I won't even get started about the ones who SERIOUSLY say that adult characters don't need to change, because I'm gonna start laughing for 3 hours straight. Dudes, there's not an age where you stop changing. If you stop trying bettering yourself at age XX, then I already know you're a shitty adult irl, goodbye.
Anyways, back on track. As I said in another post I may have linked above, I thought his encounter and resolution with Kenny would have amounted to something in this regards, since Levi used violence to get acknowledgment and to feel like he was “worth” something, imo, but it was only a set up for serumbowl. Wasted chance.
And I get it that violence is the way he was taught to deal with things, but 20 years have passed since then and he had a whole character arc in Uprising about opening up, trusting, feeling trusted in return, and feeling good and grateful and happy about that BECAUSE he was open with his squad and learned that it was better to use words rather than fists. So I thought he had grown out of it at least a bit. But I mean, there are other characters who have regressed or haven’t changed at all after their supposed character arc, and that dampened to a great degree the enjoyment of such characters for me (Historia, Ymir, Reiner), so whatever I guess? I can definitely see it’s something of a “cruel” way of storytelling Isayama really seems to like, maybe because he wants the characters to suffer. I guess you can’t have a story if all of your characters become better people and overcome their flaws…well, actually you can, but I guess Isayama doesn’t want this to be that kind of story.
But anyway, just to be clear, it also ties in with wanting the characters you love to better themselves and let go of things that ruin their lives or that have roots in trauma. Wouldn’t you want that for someone you love, even and especially in real life? So, if his violent tendencies have been portrayed as “wrong”, Bad Coping Mechanisms, and rooted in childhood trauma, why is it so frowned upon in this goddamn fandom to wish for him to let go of them, since it’s something that has caused him and characters around him pain or distress or downright failure. Overcoming these flaws would mean he’d feel better about himself, and others, and his past, etc. Why is it SO wrong to wish him the best? Lmao, I don’t get it.
So when his “real fans” be like “Levi’s violence is a part of him, you don’t love him for real if you can’t accept that part. anyway he’s perfect the way he is”, I’m like…that’s actually bullshit. I just want him to be a better person, just like I wanted to be a better person when I had detrimental (for me and for the people close to me) behaviors due to mental health stuff.
It’s not even on the same level of wanting him to stop being rude, that’s part of his charm. Violence…is not a cool personality trait, and it’s something you should want him to get over.
I still love lots of things that were shown in the manga in regards to Eren and Levi, so I don’t get why I should justify myself for liking them together just because I don’t like some parts of one of them. I still think some of Levi’s best personality traits came out when he interacted with Eren, and I like the Levi who cares about Eren the most. Hence why I ship the goddamn ship. That’s all there is to it, really. Here I talked about what I loved about their relationship, though now I feel like a bit of a hopeful fool.
