This starts a pattern of you rationalizing that maybe, just maybe he'll feel your concern for him somehow and start realizing that what he's doing isn't what's best.

Then it hits you that maybe he just doesn't know. I mean you sometimes push yourself past the point of what's healthy without even realizing what's going on until it's too late. You wouldn't be surprised if he was like that too.

So, in your defense, you do try and help him live a better life. He's very sweet and polite when you tell him that he should get more sleep, and he never really is rude when he declines going on walks with you. But he doesn't study, and you see him slipping in classes. Then he stops talking to his friends. Still, he won't eat. You peer through his window each night, growing more and more worried.

Why? Why? Why?

Does he not understand that you care about him so much? Does it mean nothing?

There's something else that clicks once again, and you know that there's only one way that you can soothe both of your suffering.

ok here we run into some interesting questions. for the other ones ive been kind of waffling between whether im putting the character in the death note universe but borrowing their contextual abilities from their own universe, vs putting light yagami/kira/etc into the character's universe... i think due to baldur's gate being the way it is we have to put light in bg3, because astarion's backstory is so contextual and historical you cant really remove him from it while preserving all the relevant factors. what im talking about is two things

can light yagami figure out astarion's surname

what happens if you write an undead person's name in the death note

which are linked - because does light know that astarion is a vampire and therefore undead? the most straightforward way to find astarion's surname is to find his tombstone, but in order to do that light would have to know that astarion had died.

more to the point, the first rule of the death note is:

The human whose name is written in this note shall die.

where we run into TWO problems. the death note takes place in the 'real' world where there are only humans and obvious non-humans (ie animals and shinigami), so there's really no need to make any finer distinction.

but astarion is 1) an elf and 2) a vampire. so does the death note work on elves?? maybe? but an undead vampire ISN'T a human, not in the normal sense and also not in the extrapolated sense where you can assume elves and humans having similar personhood probably have the same rules apply. vampires are undead! that's very different! you cant kill a vampire with a heart attack!!! his heart isn't even working!!!

ALSO

You cannot kill humans at the age of 124 or over with the Death Note.

if we say aging stops when vampires die the first time, then astarion was 39, but then we're saying he's dead, in which case he probably can't die again. if we say aging continues as a vampire, then he's over 200, and he's excluded by this rule.

nah. they're really touchy amicas, tho. probably because im always touchy with my friends and it just kinda rubs off on my art. ravage is my Me character so i do end up giving him traits i have. one of those is being touchy with people he cares about 🤷‍♂️. he's especially touchy with drift as when they were grouped together in the dead end (which is where they met in my brain), ravage spent a lot of hours curled up in drift's car alt with laserbeak and buzzsaw for shelter. that touchy aspect never really left their dynamic.

and besides,

drift/deadlock's candle has always been lit for someone else.

lightly touching upon this post in particular, but i feel like people tend to forget that rocky really is someone who does make his own choices more often than not. yes, his circumstances are tragic, and personally i can’t fully blame him for being so desperate to keep his newfound home to the point of taking up violent crime to maintain it … but these are still choices he makes of his own volition, over and over again. same as every other character in the narrative. rocky is the one who decides to go after the pig farmers for revenge and doesn’t tell mitzi or viktor about it, which winds up costing the lackadaisy devestating consequences! he’s the one who ( rather gleefully ) decides to try and kill fish and wes, and was maybe considering this plan from the moment he saw them adorning the marigold flower on their lapels. he threatens and scares wick. he convinces freckle to join the lackadaisy crew due to his own fear of losing his job. etc etc! rocky also shows a streak of hiding his pain / bad situation to others, due to not wanting to be seen as a burden, and wanting to bounce back all on his own to prove his worth. again, this is all very sympathetic! but i do wish more people acknowledged that rocky isn’t some puppet on everyone else’s strings and that he’s, in fact, someone who can and has made his own choices multiple times within the story itself.

i KNOW it's been talked about to death but. the haikaveh research project. it literally haunts my mind. i cannot get over the implications. alhaitham going through his school life as someone that most people dont even really know about because he keeps to himself and doesn't socialize, with kaveh being the one exception to that, finding his way into his life as his Best Friend, and then leading to alhaithams one and only time he participated in a research topic. his bio says he only ever did ONE joint project!!! one!!! the one with kaveh his best friend and i think also his only friend at the time!!!! and then it ended in not only the project falling apart but also alhaithams only friendship. kavehs best friendship. they were each others closest person. they had no family around - alhaithams parents having died when he was young and his grandmother dying before he joined the akademiya, and kaveh's dad dying when he was young and his mom having moved to fontaine. like even if you dont look at it through a romantic lens it's still undeniable how important they were [and are] to each other..........

i'm getting off track but my point is very specifically for alhaitham, the one time he got close to someone, made a friend, even agreed to join one(1) group project ever, it ended in disaster. it led him into a fight so bad that his one and only friend said he regretted that friendship!!!! it was so bad alhaitham left the project and he and kaveh didnt speak for ages until they just happened to run into each other again at the tavern!!!!! like obviously it has to be incredibly awful for both of them but i just think how this probably had alhaitham in the cynical mindset that friendships and collaborations like that might just never work out for him because the one time he let someone into his life, it blew up on him and he was all alone again. even though alhaitham never seems to care much if people dont like him, that clearly cant still apply to someone he was exceptionally close to. like if he didnt care he woudlnt have been the one to take his name off the project and mutually not speak to kaveh...... kavehs words are the ones that hit the most significantly to alhaitham.......... kaveh is said/implied to have had at least some other friends while at school / people knew who he was, but not so much alhaitham. people didnt know him and the ones that did just knew he didnt socialize/he was not easy to get along with. he only had kaveh and then, for a while, he lost him too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
