I viscerally hate how the Duffers treat most of their non white or queer characters and I hate even more viscerally, how y'all big byler blogs in your circle jerk of other 5 big byler blogs casually like to ignore many red flags the show has.

Y'all like to say: "tHe DufFeRs ArE gReAt WrIteRs" and it's like girl, who are you lying to??? They aren't top shit writers at all. The Duffers are pretty mid imo. Yeah, they run a good show that's fun to watch and theorize abt , but that doesn't mean they're good writers cuz they're not.

1. they completely side lined Will during s3 for the sake of their straight romances: lumax, jancy, mlvn, duzie and partly stobin (even if stobin wasn't endgame, thankfully, Steve's intentions were clearly wanting to date Robin and they gave it a lot of screen time). Will was sidelined bc he didn't fit the straight romance plotline bc they planned to make him gay or whatever. Now in s4 Will and his feelings have been used as mlvn toilet paper. Yes, we like to say this is build up for byler but canonically, Will's feelings have been used to clean the shit mlvn leaves behind.

2. Billy was sympathized a lot during the last 2 seasons. They gave him the sad backstoryTM in order for ppl to feel sorry for him. Billy's backstory is literally Jonathan's but whatever.

3. El's anger issues are constantly girlboss-ified. They down play her bullying situation and literally just use it for El to be a ''girlboss" without realizing how triggering that is. As someone who has lived bullying, seeing it be ignored by canon and fanon is super sad. The whole Rink-O' Mania experience must have been so traumatizing for her yet, everyone absolutely forgets abt it 🤷🏻‍♀️

4. Robin, Erica and Argyle are stereotypical characters. Robin is the quirky lesbian with social anxiety, Erica is the badass black woman and Argyle is the Latino stoner that sells weed to white kids and works as a pizza delivery guy.

5. Altho Argyle and Eddie both do drugs, (Eddie actually sells K-12 to a minor and nobody batted an eye. He has a huge fan base). Eddie is held in a pedestal bc "poor thing 🥺 he lives in a trailer with his uncle 🥺". Tell me a single fact you know abt Argyle that isn't "he smokes weed", "he is Jonathan's only friend", "drives a van" and "he works at a pizzeria". Exactly, Eddie is given a useless backstory and Argyle isn't.

6. Dustin stopped being important to the plot sometime around s2 and s3. He is only there to curse and be mildly funny. My guy needs to hangout with ppl his age cuz he only hangs out with seniors.

7. El needs to stop having so much "I'M THAT BITCH" screentime like I need in s5 for El's arc to not just be her becoming more powerful and falling in love with Mike. I need the Duffers to explore her trauma and problems.

8. Angela should have been run over by the van.

9. Patrick should have been given a backstory that isn't the basic "strict black parents that hit their kids cuz they are a disgrace". Patrick's backstory is actually racist af, fight w the wall.

10. As Lex already said, they didn't trigger tag the ep where Jason and his friends assault Lucas and Erica. Like wtf? Why was that necessary? Why did I have to see a black boy being held at gunpoint by some white guy?? Was it relevant to the plot?? I don't think so. And then I've got to see ppl online be like "Jason wasn't that bad. He was just mourning" like bitch you can stfu. This is what happens when you make the racist assholes conventionally attractive.

Also the fact that Lucas's arc is fulfilled by him fist-fighting Jason and "embracing his weirdness" aka accepting he is black. His arc was not fulfilled at all cuz that ending spoke so loud to me. It showed how little empathy ppl have towards the struggles poc ppl living in the Midwest have. Y'all circle jerks can only see racism when it's super obvious.

Furthermore, parents complained when ST showed "an excessive amount of smoking" yet nobody batted an eye when Billy tried to run over Lucas, when Erica (an 11 y.o ffs) was chased by white kids or when Lucas was held at gunpoint by Jason.

All of this happened while they focused on Max's guilt and mourning that, yeah, are important but certainly not less important than racism!!!

11. In s3, they gave us that whole Nancy vs The Bigots arc that was honestly just triggering and useless. It didn't help Nancy's character at all, quite the opposite it put unnecessary angst.

12. Lonnie being presented as an abuser just for him to never be spoken of again. Can we please get to explore the trauma he left the Byers's with?

13. The fact that both queer relationships are considered "sloppy seconds" is extremely sad. Both Vickie and Mike are rebounding from their failed relationship with Robin and Will. These 2 ships have caused more commotion than Jancy and Jopper together! (These last ships are technically sloppy seconds too but everybody forgets that. Shocker!!)

14. Last but not least, ppl blame Argyle for being the one to get Jonathan into smoking weed as if Jonathan probably wasn't the one looking for it. Let me tell you, that you only find weed if you look for it.

so. Dream gets cursed by an spurned admirer/ex/random vindictive magic user which he pays absolutely no mind to because he's definitely been cussed out worse than that.

But suddenly anyone and everyone he encounters becomes a simpering mess/fawning idiot around him. in the Dreaming, everyone acts so horrendously out of character that it becomes so so awkward for him. absolutely tanks his productivity. the earthquakes (dreamquakes?) may or may not facilitate in some necessary physical distancing. someone lobs the L word at him and he nearly rips a hole through space and time to get away. it's better/worse in the Waking world. he doesn't know these people trying to seduce him. but they are still trying to seduce him so he does the Endless version of power walking away from this problem.

and he makes his way to The New Inn where he knows Hob is. he has absolutely no idea what Hob can do but going to a friend is a better alternative to just going from realm to realm, power walking away from a collection of people convinced they are in love?? with him????

Hob is definitely at his usual place in the New Inn and can absolutely feel the change in atmosphere the moment Dream enters. suddenly everyone zeroes in on Dream and Hob...has never seen that expression on his friend's face. like a cornered animal, if only in the form of a more than a god, no less than a goth that is Dream of the Endless. so Hob manages to shoo away the crowd from Dream, using his extraordinary powers of being the owner of the inn everyone is in to good use.

they hole up at Hob's place and try to figure out what the actual fuck is going on. Hob concludes that yes Dream, someone saying that "your lack of understanding of love is obviously caused by the scarcity of it in your life," and "that can be solved easily," is at the v least a red flag and at most the reason why there is a horde of people on your walking aphrodisiac ass rn. Dream points out that it's mild criticism not a curse. Hob does not have the training or time to unpack that one today.

hijinks that occur while they're trying to uncurse Dream:

call in Constantine for back up. the house call goes very badly for everyone involved. there was a sultry come on. a creature older than humanity lowkey scrambling up the kitchen shelves. an immortal testing his immortality by throwing a hissing magic user out the door. anyway. the consultation goes on much better on the phone. everyone promises never to talk about this incident ever again.

Dream contemplating on whether he should call on his siblings because they might know something about this or even causing it. but what they also get affected by this curse. would Dream be able to handle that?? and his thoughts spin out of control until Dream wordlessly just lies down on Hob's living room floor. Hob panics because is this the next part of the curse??? no it's just Dream borrowing trouble which is it's own curse but one at a time please and thank you.

Hob fighting off a delivery person who nearly breaks the door down when they catch a glimpse of Dream still on the living room floor. no one was hurt, no dumplings were forsaken, a huge tip was placed on the delivery person's face before closing the door.

the nature of love is discussed over dimsum. it's mostly how Dream deserves to be loved and respected (Hob) vs huh what a concept (Dream)

Matthew tries to sneak in so Hob and Dream have to find new hiding places in the Hob's place. the current favorite is under a blanket with a flashlight on

At some point Dream realizes that Hob is just. the way he usually is around Dream. no throwing himself af Dream or flowery declarations or anything??? Dream concludes (wrongly) that Hob's immortality might be making him immune. Hob is just sitting there, wondering if going "lol no, it's too late for that!! i've been down bad for you for centuries!!!" would be an appropriate response. it's not but god is he tempted. he gives in to his other temptation and lets Dream think that "yes immortality has anti-curse properties i guess, you really do learn something new everyday (cue nervous laughter)" 👀👀👀

Now all I can think about is Prey!Papa-Naruto because it would be the wildest funniest thing ever! ok i’m so tired of all the people who defend kyle in this episode with the same half-assed argument of “yeah ofc kyle didn’t wanna be around stan bc it can be hard to be around someone with depression!1!!1” like yes i agree with that and i can DEF understand why kyle didn’t wanna be around stan when he was depressed. it can be hard AF for me too to be around someone who’s negative and wants to mope around and be miserable all the time LOL. it’s one thing to be there for someone depressed bc they just experienced something rlly difficult and traumatic (bc i mean we ALL go through shitty times and get depressed at some point) like that’s just being a good friend imo, but it’s another thing to completely enable someone who just wants to be miserable and play the victim instead of trying to overcome their depression. in that case i aint gonna feel bad for u and i’m prob gonna wanna distance myself lol. so yeah it DEF was realistic and understandable why kyle didn’t wanna be around stan anymore bc it can be draining AF to be around someone THAT negative. however, what us kyle haters had an issue with is the HYPOCRISY from kyle lol. like rlly you’re saying KYLE BROFLOVSKI the absolute king of codependency and martyrdom doesn’t wanna be around stan bc he “can’t save him” and is “bumming him out” like ok sure jan lol. and what i rlly have a problem with is kyle saying he doesn’t wanna be around stan but then has no problem hanging out with cartman instead lol. like um cartman is wayyy more toxic and annoying to be around than stan. so you don’t wanna be around or help someone with depression, but you’re fine being around and helping someone who’s a racist murderer????? THAT’S why kyle seemed fake af and a shitass friend to stan in these episodes lol. it just seemed like kyle was looking for an excuse or waiting for his opportunity to dump stan as a friend to hang out with cartman and wanted to do that for a long time but never had a valid enough reason to before without it looking sus on his end. bc we didn’t even see kyle make any effort whatsoever to get through to stan, it’s like the MINUTE he found out there was a problem with stan he was like BYE. i hate that shit, kyle is like that one friend who just waits for you to screw up or make one tiny mistake so they can stab you in the back and abandon you lol, yet is fine hanging out with other friends who act wayyy more toxic who do worse shit. not to mention kyle himself is negative and whines 24/7…so i mean LOL. that’s a HUGE red flag to me is if a friend only wants you to be perfect or only likes being around you during the happy times, but the moment something goes wrong in your life they aren’t there. he can get petty sometimes, and is also very stubborn. it can be hard to change his mind, and he can sometimes get offended, thinking that u dont trust him or that u think hes incapable

it will usually start off as something small, like for example ur worried ab him overworking himself

aaravos will jump to conclusions and blow it out of proportion, he'll think that ur losing faith in him and that ur going to leave him

tbh hes his own worst enemy cuz his fear of losing u just makes him act nasty and cruel during fights which only pushes u away

during the heat of the moment, aaravos might say some things he doesnt mean

he can be pretty scary when angry, hes like a cornered animal and gets defensive over anything

afterwards, he will feel esp bad

if he made u cry, the guilt will be eating at him for hours

aaravos will sit silently beside u and be going over what to say, but when he opens his mouth he just gets really anxious. after fights and when ur really upset with him are one of the only times u will ever see him unsure, normally hes always so calculating and put together but he is not good at apologizing

he will try his hardest to apologize tho

hes a firm believer of the "dont go to sleep angry" rule and will talk to u as soon as hes calm

once aaravos isnt angry, hes pretty levelheaded and mature when communicating ab an argument u two had

but only if he was in the wrong

if U were wrong, he will pout and be bratty ab it

hes too clingy to ignore u, but will literally be hugging u cuz hes scared u'll leave while pouting and side eying u while saying hes angry (he isnt, hes just a little bitch)

if he was wrong, he'll dote on u and be very sweet and gentle for the next few days

the worst thing u can do is ignore him, aaravos loves attention, ESPECIALLY ur attention and u ignoring him lets him know that he fucked up bad

if u were wrong, he will want to be pampered and will wait for u to apologize on ur own time

depending on whether or not ur a hot-headed person, arguments can last for as short as a few minutes to lasting a few days of the both of u being petty

after any argument, no matter how small or who was right or wrong, aaravos always ends up being clingy and needy

hes afraid u'll leave, he doesnt want to be alone again and doesnt want to lose u

however he will poke fun at u cuz hes just like that 🙄

aaravos could never get physical in fights, he sees that as a huge red flag

if u flinch in an argument, he immediately stops, there is nothing more important to him than making sure ur safe and that will break through any level of anger that he has

if hes being a pouty little bitch after an argument, it's honestly so easy to cheer him up

overall, aaravos overthinks things, and that leads to most of ur arguments but he will recognize when hes wrong and take responsibility. he can be difficult and downright irritating at times, but he tries his best to be a good person (elf???) for u and loves u unconditionally

Atsushi Nakajima is like an inverse Holden Caulfield. He’s a homeless runaway orphan who sees the good in others and is compassionate, and reluctant to express his emotions while Holden’s a trust fund kid who’s misanthropic and stuck in his own ways, open about his emotions. Both have a little sister figure whose wise beyond her years: For Holden, it’s Phoebe and for Atsushi it’s Kyoka.

I would kill to see JD Salinger as a character in BSD, though I doubt that’ll ever happen because Salinger was vehemently against any sort of adaptation of his work, and he’d turn roll in his grave knowing he was made to be an anime character and shipped with other authors. I was also obsessed with the book when I was in high school and had a huge crush on Holden Caulfield bc I was an angsty cynical af teen and he made me feel understood, but am now well aware that Holden’s a walking red flag and wake up every morning grateful that I never dated a guy like him.

Jerome and Atsushi interacting. It would be kind of similar to the relationship between Atsushi and Akutagawa, but I don’t think Jerome’s ability would be that strong and I imagine that he’s got a special baseball glove that turns gigantic and he never fails to catch stuff. Atsushi calls him out on how sorry for himself him he is and how judgmental he is towards everyone around when he’s lived a life of privilege and that he isn’t always right about everything like he thinks he is. I think he’d take his words into consideration a lot more than Akutagawa. They definitely wouldn’t be friends but would at least be able to have a level of respect for on another as acquaintances.

Alright tumblr folks if anyone even reads these, Ive started working on the character sheets and i decided to put in fictional places as part of their info, however tumblr dont have the context for the silly floating place yet so im just gonna drop this here real quick

This post oughta be a bit long. Written in November 2023, copypasted from my Deviantart (dont go there)

This is The Crystal Isles, its where The Scarlet Manor's story takes place in and its cool

originally a sunken landmass that resurfaced from the rise of gigantic seamonsters centuries ago, it sits in the Oceania continent , got marked as us territory, its a wild place

one half of the country is populated with humans, and the other is populated with vampires (or mutants if youre a science nerd but just call them vampires)

the yellow white + red blue represents the division between humans and vampires, with the white+ yellow representing the sun and sky, and the red + blue representing the bloodshed and deadly oceans vamps are associated with

the two races are in a truce though bc the only way to combat the ocassional leviathans invading their country is by working together

Making for some very interesting dynamics.

This whole country is still a draft , so things are expected to be changed and expanded in the future, but thats still in the future . Anyway-

First we'll start off with the human zones:

Emeralis- this is mainly more of a military headquarters area but theres the One (1) city in here that residents live in , theyre middle class and working class, and some are homeless from other regions that had no other choice but to move here, this region is also one of the main two barriers that divide the humans from the vampires, outside the wall you enter Lazule

Carneli- now this ones BIIGG its the second biggest region in the human portion and its thriving, main agricultural grounds and the source of food, has a very diverse cuisine culture raging from cool garden salads to seafood by the region's edge

Quartzfort- home to the richest mfs of the isles, very pretentious and extremely wealthy region , also home to very shady and crappy people . claims themselves as the main representative of humans in the entire isles, so everyone has to look their best all the time, No Exceptions, none, ever

Amethys- the one gateway to Crystal isles to the rest of the world, you cant enter from anywhere else. theres lots of planes here !!! and airline stations, and a super diverse population of people because they come from all over the globe (whats left of it, anyway) . because of so many people living here, its also beome a huge entertainment center, showbiz, bootleg crystal hollywood, whatnot

Opalis- a fifth region that i didnt include here because it doesnt have its own flag currently. but its still a crucial part of the country, the second barrier of the isles. once a thriving region turned into the experimenta. grounds of this mega science corp called SCI-REN , absolutely deplorable company that endorses child experimentation and killing for the name of science, its awful . but what can anyone do about it ? theyre powerful af and has built themselves up to the top where noone can plummet them down

Now onto the vampire regions (or if you want to be fancy; Mutant Zones)

Lazule- the main setting the story, the flag is designed after a moonflower because its all over the place and they like that. The region is the main source of entertainment amongst vampires so you got the arena, vampire hollywood (if they named it vollywood im gonna do something bad to myself) and other cool celebrities, its also very tech savvy, you got the tech bros in here and Perlas

Ruby- hellhole. thats it Ruby is a hellhole, its very impoverished next to Tanzan and has extremely high crime rates and child abuse cases, unethical labor, trafficking, very corrupt government, further screwed over by the higher ups from the richer regions. you get noodles and chilli here also

Tanzan- another hellhole, also impoverished and is the origins of the most brutal sport of vampires named "dogfighting" which is basically make hungry vamps attack each other to the death while you place your bets on them , they have a tough warrior kind of culture around these parts, very into solving things with violence

Perlas- Richest and also biggest region in the vamps portion , also has a lot of factories and mass produce, partners with Lazule in their tech bizz, pretty shady though , theres jerks here who profits off of the suffering of Tanzan + Ruby and pays trashy big corps

Sapphire- the token vegan region , theyre cool here and they want to prove that vampires can still live without abusing the animals in the meat industry and just. not eat meat at all , considered "progressive" in their time, they eat more legumes because honestly as much as they crave blood they just need the protein . popularized blood and meat alternatives, go green , blablabla

Azur- buddies with Sapphire ! though they still eat meat but theyre more of omnivores, Sapph encouraged them to eat more leaves. good for them , there economically on the down low and have the smallest population but honestly ? theyre the chillest region by far, theyre vibing. oh also they popularized eating bugs

Spineless af, no personality but 'horny' for the mc. pretty shit at being a parent. Literally cheated on their fiance, but the fiance is made out to be the 'bad guy'. Character is gender customisable but is written so white male coded urgh. is terribly jealous but not in a cute way. just really annoying. much rather choose their ex wife or fiancé over them any day

He (like it was said before customizable but white man coded) was so bad when I played the game. He’s the only love interest of the story, but after a single chapter I decided I wasn’t interested in him. I went out of my way to avoid any romantic options with him. For me the game was just “The Nanny”. But, despite all my romance dodging, I ended up with a scene where he says word for word “My hands aren't clean, [character name]. How can they be, when I think about you every time I touch myself? Or when I want to murder the next man who touches you?”. BIG RED FLAG. Also at one point, Sam can give you the option to DITCH HIS 9 YEAR OLD SONS BIRTHDAY PARTY and hook up with him!

Look. I’ll admit I have not personally romanced solas. I am baffled that anyone would WANT to romance solas. I know we all love a waify little elf wizard with questionable motivations but jfc look at him like im trying not to say anything demeaning about bald dudes but he does not wear it well. Also iirc you can only romance him if you’re also an elf and then he’s weirdly rude and dismissive if your character is Into Elf Culture.
