so murderbot assumes that three offered its armor because it doesn't understand that the armor can belong to it and thinks mb taking the armor is just good resource allocation.

but if it assumes it doesnt have control over the armor, it would probably let whoever it sees as in charge (maybe ART?) handle it, or at least make the suggestion directly to that person. even newly freed in NE, it's willing to give its security advice (on hostage situations being undesirable) even if it doesn't expect to be taken seriously. it doesn't make sense to me that it would have so much trouble expressing the offer if it were just a security suggestion.

and then i think about how murderbot says later in the book that even if three felt fondly toward its fellow SecUnits, the govmod would prevent it from expressing that care or knowing it was returned.

so-- imagine you're three, and you havent yet internalized that you can just say "i care about you and dont want you to get hurt" to another SecUnit; but you can make sure that it has every resource it might need; you could probably do that even before the govmod was hacked.

you can't explain why, but you can hope that the gesture is explanation enough, and you can look for similar caretaking gestures in return; things like being given code and advice to do your job better, and being reassured when you express that you're finding said job difficult.

i think *murderbot* isn't aware of this language of care, because it hasnt had much opportunity to bond with other constructs. but three probably is, and probably knows how to read between the lines and guess that murderbot is starting to care about it, too.

Some weirdo: YEAH! Stolas is HORRIBLE to him!!! Not listening to Blitzo at all, and then throwing the blame on him - he’s manipulating the situation! What he did was absolutely unfair!

Me: oh well no that’s not really- Stolas has his own faults, sure, he could learn to listen to Blitzo more- but he’s also hurting so much. Blitzo hasn’t been very mindful of Stolas’ feelings lately- that plus the fact that he’s not very good at communicating. Stolas has his own traumas with the yelling-

Some other weirdos: YEAH I HATE BLITZO! He’s TERRIBLE! I’ve always hated him! He’s always so mean to Stolas and Stolas does NOTHING but just LOVE HIM ALL THE TIME my poor baby bird boy-

[spoiler free 'sinsmas' leak discussion!]

regarding a discussion i saw about the sinsmas leaks, i'm going to be so angry if octavia is actually slammed both in canon and fanon for standing against stolas. the fandom seems to be on her side for now, as stolas is starting to be portrayed in poor lighting and hasn't been a particularly great father as of season two, but the fandom is very fickle; all it takes is stolas crying about how hard he has it to make half of them change their minds.

furthermore, while it makes sense that asmodeus and fizzarolli have/would take stolas' side, i dislike that there's not a large range of characters that seem to care about stolas being a cheater, despite loyalty being something that quite a lot of characters take seriously in this show. everyone either supports stolas 100% or has no thoughts about the situation, and those that do hate stolas don't hate that he prioritized some imp and bdsm fantasies over his wife and child but that he diverted from his social class. octavia is the only one who seems to care about the fact that stolas played a part in breaking the family, and i'm quite annoyed with that.
