[ one day ] j. hughes
Tumblr media
paring : Jack Hughes x fem!reader
summary : (Y/N) accidentally distracts Jack while he’s being interviewed in their home for a day in the life of a Devils player documentary that's being filmed, and Jack brings up the idea of a proposal
warning(s) : a quick mention of suggestive content but no actual sex
author’s note : i don’t understand how this plot came to be and tbh it's kinda stupid but i’m taking it and running with it
༺═──────────────═༻
Jack being one of NHL's most popular players has it's pros and cons. Today is one of those cons that they both hate. Jack is being followed around for the day to film a Devils documentary that follows players during their off days. Jack being one of the Devils' star players means he had to do the documentary.
That was before (Y/N) talked him into it. She didn't realize how intense it would all be. An entire film crew has set up in their living room with big cameras and lighting. They have made themselves very much at home after knocking on their door at the crack of dawn.
The two of them were having a really good morning in bed together when the film crew came knocking. Lots of naked cuddles and kisses were exchanged when a knock rang out through their apartment. It ruined both of their moods.
They stand in their kitchen and watch the crew finish setting up from the island counter. Jack is now dressed in a dark grey Devils hockey t-shirt with black sweatpants that have a Devils logo on the pant leg.
"Do you want me in this?" (Y/N) questions. Jack looks over at her with a confused look on his face. "I mean, we've been mostly quiet about our relationship so I completely understand if you don't want me to be apart of your episode of the documentary."
Jack shakes his head as soon as the words pass her lips. "No, I want you in this, (Y/N)," he tells her. "It's a documentary about a day in my life and you're a really big part of my life so of course I want you in this. Just let me do the interview really quick then we can act like it's a normal day."
The woman doing the interview is one of the Devils reporters, but (Y/N) can't remember her name at the moment. She sits opposite Jack in the comfy chair. The camera over her shoulder is pointed at Jack.
While Jack is being interviewed, (Y/N) goes to her room to get ready for their insane day ahead. She needs to put on some actual clothes too. All she's been wearing since she got out of bed is one of Jack's t-shirts and a pair of really small shorts. Not exactly what she wants to be wearing if she's going to be followed around for most of the day by people that work for the Devils.
She can hear some of the questions being asked while she's getting changed. They're the usual questions. Asking about how the season is going for him, how he's been recovering from that shoulder injury that kept him off the ice for a handful of games, and how it's been having his brother on the team with him. Sometimes Jack's sassy side comes out. He's never been the one to hide how he's feeling when answering questions.
To mess with Jack a little bit, and to kind of surprise him when he's done with the interview, (Y/N) grabs Jack's Devils hoodie that he wears to practice sometimes. His number sits on her chest and it's a little too big. She pairs the black hoodie with a pair of jeans that are ripped at the knee. She throws her hair up into a high ponytail and puts on light makeup just to cover any blemishes or pimples that'll pop out on camera.
When she leaves their bedroom, Jack is talking about how amazing it is to be considered one of the league's best players.
"It's always the goal to be one of the best in whatever sport you play," Jack is saying as she walks through the living room. "I, um, didn't think it would happen, uh, so early on in my, um, career." (Y/N) looks over and sees that Jack has his eyes on her. "Sorry. Got distracted." There's a smile on his face when he sees what she's wearing.
The reporter turns and looks at (Y/N). "I didn't know your girlfriend lived with you, Jack," she says as she turns back to him. (Y/N) smiles and starts to make some coffee.
"One of the best decisions I have ever made," Jack says from the living room. "Getting to fall asleep with her in my arms and waking up with her wrapped around me is an honor. We've been together for over two years now and it's been incredible. My parents and brothers all love her, but not nearly as much as I do."
(Y/N) smiles to herself as the coffee brews. Her back is to him at the moment so he can't see the smile.
The way Jack talks about her sometimes makes her fall in love with him a little more. She talks about him like that all the time to friends and family, but knowing he's saying all of this in front of a camera for a documentary makes what he'[s saying a little more special. He isn't holding back because he's on camera.
"That's so cute," the interviewer says. "Could we be expecting a Jack Hughes proposal soon?"
"We'll see what happens," Jack replies. That causes her to spin around immediately and look at Jack. The smile that was on his face is still there as their eyes meet from two different rooms. Her smile grows bigger.
They've never talked about marriage. Both of them are very happy with where they are at in their relationship so they both not rushing to walk down the aisle. Plus, they're 21 and 22 respectively so they're still really young. They don't have to get married right now.
The interview goes by without another mention of marriage, or (Y/N). She's okay with that because this is about Jack and his accomplishments as NHL's rising star. He's come a long way since his rookie year.
(Y/N) was around that year but they weren't together. They were close friends at that point so she saw every day how Jack struggled his rookie year. He struggled with hockey and he struggled with what people were saying about him online. Calling him a NHL bust despite being drafted first overall.
They grew closer that year and it was during his sophomore season when they got together. She's been super supportive of him since he got drafted, but especially after his rookie year.
Jack quickly excuses himself before he gets mic'd up for the rest of the day. She's pouring coffee into two mugs for both of them when Jack comes up behind her and wraps his arms around his girlfriend.
"I know we never talked about it but-"
"Yes, I'd like to get married to you one day, Jack," (Y/N) interrupts as she turns in his arms. He presses her against the counter with one hand and takes his hot coffee in his other. "We don't have to rush into anything though. I'm happy with where we are and you're still trying to prove yourself in the NHL."
"So one day?" he asks.
She leans forward and kisses him softly and quickly. "One day."

classmate au | sim jake
Tumblr media
❝ i’m sorry we only got 26/30 on this worksheet ❞
heeseung | jay | JAKE | sunghoon | sunoo | jungwon | ni-ki
jake…
oh jake.
student athlete and math genius jake
you’re in the same class but he feels so far because he hangs out with his rly pretty friends
u can only look from afar
he’s always a tiny bit late to class
always drawing attention to his pretty boy face 😞
at 7:30, the bell rings and classes start
at 7:31, jake walks into class late
but the teachers always give him a pass bc how could they not when he smiles at them like that and apologizes like that
even ur teachers are down bad
he probably becomes your class representative for that one strict teacher’s class bc they always have a soft spot for jake
u want the deadline of the homework extended? ask jake to message them
he sits in the middle seats
not too prim and punctual to be at the front
but still likes school enough not to completely goof around at the back
sometimes your math teacher lets you do quizzes and worksheets by pair
(it’s the only way some of you can get a passing grade)
by statistics and some type of sampling, you end up getting partnered up with jake
“hi, good morning,” he’d greet with his infamous smile
now you get why all the teachers swoon for him
he’s so cute. this is going to be a problem
this is going to be a BIG problem
you were already bad at math, and now there’s a big pretty distraction sitting next to you
though, tbh, you were also relieved when you heard your name with his bc he’s ltrly known as a math genius
he’s one of the students that teachers excuse for their math contests
and wait 😭 did he just say something to u? did he ask about a formula bc u honestly have no clue
“(name)?” he’d shake your shoulder gently and it’s enough to bring you back on earth
“sorry, did you ask something?”
“oh, i’m done … if u wanted to compare answers? or if u trust me enough?”
you trust him enough
he’s ltrly THE carry
jake will speedrun differential calculus like he’s writing the alphabet
uh oh.
why does he look so HOT with his pencil and the way he writes numbers
you’re going insane
you should never be paired with jake ever again
but by some twist of fate, you always end up as jake’s partner in numerous activities
lab work and experiments and communication reports?
“jake and (name),” the teacher would announce
ofc… typical of friends, they HAVE to push you around as you walk to your seat beside jake’s
while you’re of great help with anything else, you’re starting to feel bad about his literal carry in math tho
“are you sure it’s ok? i’m just rly horrible i’m sorry,” you’d apologize
he would just laugh and dismiss your concerns
“nooo, it’s okay. i’m fine! i can tell you didn’t get enough sleep last night”
(you spent the night binging a new show that came out)
your stomach doesn’t feel so good after that one.
who gave him the right to NOTICE things now???
when your teacher returns your paired worksheets, he has the GALL to apologize
a big fat 29/30 will be written on top and he’d say “oh i’m sorry we had one mistake 😕” like BOY SHUT UP !!!!
after your partner shenanigans, you’d start talking more in the classroom
he’d give u a fist bump if u bumped into each other in the hallways while walking with ur respective friend groups
sometimes even shout your name to get your attention only to wave at you
“why are you smiling like that?,” sunghoon would ask accusingly
and you know what? jake has no shame
“(name). she’s pretty cute, no?”
BYE absolutely no shame
so now, when he speedruns an activity, you’ll find him hovering around you until he starts to make conversation
if the teacher leaves early ?? suddenly he’s transported to the seat next to yours and flirting
being friends with jake is chaotic…. bc that would automatically mean being friends with HIS loud ass friends
pretty friends have upgraded to pretty LOUD friends
they’re so annoying too
“jake and (name), can you buy us water?”, heeseung would ask
WHY R U BUYING WATER FOR HEESEUNG
but jake’s already taking your hand and dragging you away bc he will take every opportunity to hang out with you alone
BTW computer science god idk i just got the vibes
during valentines that year, he codes you a little website please end me
mind you, you aren’t even together yet
he just codes for you as a friend 😂😂😂 as if anyone’s believing that
oh and he also avails those anonymous services so you’ll just be receiving flowers from the student council throughout the day
“oooooh, who are those from,” he would be smiling like it’d be so painfully obvious it’s from him
“do you like them?” NOOOOOOO he just wants to know ok!!! tell him you love them please
OK back to normal no more valentines
when class dismisses, you’d find him lounging around the basketball court with heeseung
sweaty….. wet hair…. oh dear
jake is a sight to see when he’s playing basketball
u usually sit at the bleachers anyway bc ur friends enjoyed watching
he is SOOOOO annoying esp now that you’ve grown closer over the months
he’d make stupid plays and draw attention to you 100%
“if i get this shot in, will you go on a date with me?”
cue the screams and the teasing and the fake vomiting as you’re pushed around
OFC he makes the shot
he’s sim jake, math genius AND student athlete
“so, tomorrow after class?”
“huh?? i thought you were joking??”
“what? no! have i not been obvious? i ltrly flirt with you evry chance i get??”
“well… idk! maybe you do that with everyone!”
“only you”
OK WISH I WERE YOU THEN 😒😒😒😒😒

Rub Her Nose In It
Eddie doesn’t realise Chrissy has been flirting with him until he does... or more accurately, until it’s pointed out to him. So, he and his girlfriend come up with a way to put it to a stop… and have a little fun along the way.
Request fill for @slightlyvicked hope you like it 💕

Contains: Dom!Eddie/Sub!Reader, Uncharacteristically Bitchy Chrissy, Hints of Domesticity, Public Sex/Van Sex, Unprotected Sex, Sex Toys, Honorifics/ Petnames (Sir, Baby, Sweetheart, Princess), Oral (Female Receiving, Hints at Male Receiving), Cum Eating, Spanking, Slight Exhibitionism
Tumblr media
Gareth had been looking for Eddie to ask something about their upcoming campaign, when he spotted them. Eddie and Chrissy huddled over by his locker, she was standing on tiptoe, whispering in his ear and giggling. Eddie laughed along too, when they parted, she pressed a kiss to his cheek and waved goodbye.
He spots Gareth and trots over to him, “Hey, man what’s up? Dustin said you needed to ask me something.”
“Man, what the hell was that?”
“Whatta ya mean?” He looks puzzled by the question.
“That, there with Chrissy Cunningham. She was all over you, what’s y/n gonna think about that?”
“It’s not like that, she’s just being friendly.”
“Don’t know about you but I don’t go around kissing all my friends on the cheek, batting my eyelashes at them and whispering in their ears. She was flirting with you.”
“No, she wasn’t. She’s just looking to score some weed. I’m sure she’s like that with everyone, anyway.”
“Looking to score with you more like and she’s not like that with everyone. Don’t think y/n hasn’t noticed either, why do you think she’s always so passive aggressive with her?”
“Really?” He gasps eyes widening in disbelief.
“Yes! For Christ’s sake are you honestly that dense Eddie?” He hisses.
“But… but Chrissy’s dating Carver…” He protests weakly.
“No, they broke up. How did you not hear about that? How did Chrissy not tell you first fucking chance she got?”
“I dunno, d’ya think that’s why Carver’s been extra hostile as of late?”
“Yeah probably, man.”
“What… what should I do?”
“Well, you gotta talk to Chrissy for a start, lay it all out for her. Tell her it ain’t happening… I mean it’s not, is it?”
“Jesus, how is that even a question? Of course not!”
Gareth holds his hands up in surrender, “Just checking.”
“I gotta let her down easy…”
“Do you though? I mean it’s not like she doesn’t know you’ve already got a girlfriend and ‘til recently she had a boyfriend. So, I don’t know what she was thinking.”
“Still, I don’t wanna hurt her though.”
“Whatever, just do it sooner rather than later. In case you haven’t noticed this is really hurting y/n.”
Tumblr media
He’d gotten to the picnic table early, first time in his life he’d ever been early to anything. He’d gone over it in his head a million times, what he’d say to her when she got here. And then right on time she emerged through the trees, with a wave and a broad smile calling his name.
“Eddie, hey you’re on time. You’re never on time.”
“Yeah, uh take a seat.” He gestures to the bench across from him, but she ignores that and sits right up beside him.
He scoots back a bit before continuing, “Uh… so… before we get to business, there’s something we gotta talk about.”
She pouts up at him, batting her eyelashes, “Yeah, what’s that Eddie?”
He shakes his head, Jesus, how had he not seen it before.
“Umm… it has been brought to my attention that you have been flirting with me… and well it needs to stop.”
She slaps him across the arm playfully, “No, I haven’t silly… that’d be naughty.” Her voice drops into a teasing, sultry tone.
“Right… anyway, please stop it, I’m with y/n. We are happy together and I don’t want her to be upset.” He shifts even further back along the seat.
“Oh, is that what this is? Is she telling you lies about me, getting in your head? She getting possessive of you? You’re allowed to have friends, you know?” Her tone shifts, becoming defensive and accusatory.
“No. No, you know what, how about we leave this deal for another time and we both just cool off for a bit, ok?” He attempts to placate her.
She rises in a huff, “Whatever, Eddie. Let me know when your girlfriend stops being a controlling bitch, so I can get my weed then ok.”
Eddie sits there in a stunned silence watching her storm off, that was not what he expected at all. He rises in a daze making his way back to his van and beginning the journey home.
Tumblr media
You’d decided to stop by Eddie’s to surprise him, making a start on dinner while you waited for him, listening to one of his cassettes as you work.
He enters his trailer to see you dancing around at the stove to one of his mixtapes, it brings a smile to his face.
“Honey, I’m home.” He calls out jokingly.
You spin around to face him and he holds out his arms for a hug. The two of you meet in the middle, arms wrapping around one another. He kisses the top of your head and murmurs, “Whatcha making? It smells good.”
You look up at him to reply, “Spaghetti and meatballs.”
“Oh yum, can’t wait.” He hums back at you.
You pull away moving back over to the stove “It’s almost done, just gonna add the pasta back in the pan. Also made some garlic bread, that’s just in the oven keeping warm.”
“You are an angel, don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“You’d manage, you’re more capable than you give yourself credit for Eds.”
You plate up the food, packing away a portion for Wayne, and set the two plates down  on the coffee table. Eddie takes a seat on the sofa and you sit beside him on the floor, leaning against his leg.
Tumblr media
The two of you get stuck in, after a few mouthfuls Eddie breaks the silence, “Hey, uh not to spoil the mood, but there’s something I wanna talk to you about.”
“Oh, that doesn’t sound good. Everything… everything alright?”
“Yeah… no… I don’t know.” He seems conflicted or maybe confused, you’re not sure which.
You bump against his leg, “Alright just tell me”
“So, um Emerson brought it to my attention that Chrissy has been flirting with me… and that it’s been going on for a while.”
Your face drops into a frown, “Mhhh, yeah I’d noticed.” You respond bitterly.
“Why… why didn’t you say anything about it?”
“I dunno, ‘cause I trust you I guess.” You shrug before taking another bite of your food.
“But it was hurting you, wasn’t it? You should’ve said something.”
“Of course, it hurt Eddie, but what was I going to say… ‘No, Eds you can’t spend time with her she’s just trying to get in your pants’. All that matters is that I trust you to do the right thing at the end of the day. You can be friends with whoever you want I’m not about to stop you-”
“Don’t really think we’re friends anymore. I tried telling her to stop with the flirting and she blew up on me started calling you names too. Somehow, I’m still not sure the message got through though.”
“So, what’re you gonna do now then?”
He shrugs, “You got any ideas?”
You pause for a moment in thought before giggling.
“What? You got something?”
“Well, maybe…” You begin hesitantly.
“Come on tell me.” He whines.
“Umm… I mean it’s not… it’s not the nicest thing in the world, but maybe we could… rub her nose in it a little.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Well… what if, and you can absolutely say no, but what if you tell her to meet you somewhere and we ummm…”
“Go on…” He encourages.
“We let her catch us going at it, the way we do when we really lose it.”
He chuckles darkly, “You’re right it’s not nice, it’s fucking brilliant.”
“You think?”
“Yeah, let’s show her who I really belong to.”
“Awww, Eds that’s sweet in like the weirdest way.” You laugh.
“Alright, I’ll uh… let you know when I’ve set it up.”
Tumblr media
“Hey, Chrissy I spoke to y/n and cleared everything up, she’s cool if I deal with you. You still after that weed?”
Her eyes light up and she nods eagerly, “Sure am Eddie, when you free?”
“How’s tomorrow around five?”
“Yeah, that’s good.”
“Can… can we meet by Lover’s Lake this time? You know Skull Rock?”
“Sure do. Why’d you wanna meet there?” She smirks slyly.
“Oh, no reason. Just gonna be in the area.” He shrugs trying to seem nonchalant.
“Ok sure thing.” She beams at him popping up on tiptoe to kiss his cheek.
He can’t suppress the shudder of discomfort but somehow, she reads it as excitement adding, “Can’t wait! See you there!”
She wiggles her fingers in his direction as he turns to leave wordlessly.
Tumblr media
Eddie had asked you to wear your flowery little sundress. It was his favourite, yours too because every time you wore it the two of you ended up fucking at least once.
That’s how you ended up with your feet propped up against the dash, bottom of your dress hiked up to your waist, panties dangling off your ankle. You had one hand on your vibrating dildo shoved deep inside you, panting and moaning while he drove through the secluded forest.
“That’s it sweetheart, want you all nice and wet, stretched out and ready to go when we get there. Remember you’re not allowed to cum unless I say so.”
You nod your head mumbling in agreement.
He lets one of his hands drift away from the steering wheel, trailing his fingertips over your hand on the toy. Slowly he rests his hand over your own guiding the motions of the toy, in and out at a lazy pace. His fingers dip lower still running through your juices as they dribble out around the toy. Collecting your wetness, he brings his hand up to his mouth licking it away.
“Fffuuuuck… focus o-on the road.” You try to sound stern but it’s hard to manage with the pitiful moans tumbling out of your lips.
He chuckles, “There is no road baby, only trees and dirt.”
“Watch the fucking trees then… ughhh, fuck please… please need to cum…” Your hips raise from the seat, muscles pulling taut.
“Ah, ah not yet. Just a little longer.”
His hand drifts back to your quivering thighs, kneading and squeezing the soft flesh.
“You can do that can’t you, be my good girl… make me proud.”
His deep, rumbly voice washes over you and you feel your walls begin to flutter with a groan, your eyes squeezing shut, biting on your lip.
“Please Eddie… please sir… please…” Tears begin to run out of the corners of your creased eyelids.
“Not yet.” He taunts, drawing out each syllable. “You’re doing so good for me.”
Your eyes snap open, tension building and mounting ‘til you snap. It’s too late you’ve already started pulsing around the toy, “Fuck… no, no, no …I’m sorry, I’m sorry…”
Head thrown back with a scream, thrusting against the vibrator desperately, “Fuck, Eddie! Feels so good!”
Tumblr media
As your body goes lax, sinking back in the seat his grip on your thigh tightens, “Was that what I think it was?” He leaves a light slap across your thigh in warning, “And don’t lie to me.”
You nod your head, ashamed, “Yes, sir. I’m sorry it was just… you… your hand, your voice I-I couldn’t hold back.”
“You know what that means?”
“Yes, sir… means I get a spanking.” You move to pull the toy out but he stops you with a word.
“No. Leave it in.”
“Wh-what? Please ’m sensitive.”
“Ok, you can turn off the vibrations, but leave it in. I want you to keep it there until I take it out and replace it with my cock.”
“Even when-.”
“Yes, even then.”
“Oh god.”
“Don’t worry we’re almost there and with time to spare.”
Tumblr media
You squirm in your seat, acutely aware of the toy between your legs. He’s parked the van, pulled up right next to Skull Rock. He gets out circling over to your side opening your door. He runs a hand down your leg, still propped up on the dash, when he reaches your panties he slips them off your ankle. Stuffing them in his back pocket he mumbles, “I’ll hang on to these.”
His hands encircle your waist lifting you out of the van and setting you down in front of him. You squeeze your legs together to keep the toy in place. You know what’s coming, hanging your head bashfully you stutter out, “H-how many?”
He lifts your chin turning your head up to face him, he lays a gentle kiss to your forehead before answering, “I’ll go easy on you this time, I was pushing you very hard. Only ten this time and I’ll count them out for you, mmkay.”
“Thank you, sir.”
He tucks a stray hair behind your ear, hand dropping to your arm before continuing, “Need you to turn around for me.”
You spin around facing back into the cab, his palm presses between your shoulders guiding you down. You brace yourself against the passenger seat and push out your ass towards him.
He runs his hand down along your back slowly, pausing to rub one of your cheeks, continuing ‘til he reaches the hem of your dress. He scrunches the bottom of your dress, flipping it up to rest on your back, exposing your bare ass and dripping pussy. You let out a soft whine as a gust of wind cascades over your exposed flesh and he brings his hand back to your plump rear, kneading it firmly.
Tumblr media
“You ready?”
“Y-yes, sir.” You answer shakily.
“Good.” He rears back his hand, brining it back down across your ass leaving a sting in its wake, “One.”
You whimper in response, tears welling in your eyes as he repeats the action.
“Two.”
He pauses for a moment, you can’t see what he’s doing, but you realise when the next hit lands. He’s spun his rings around on his fingers, you can feel them leaving an imprint on your skin.
“Three.”
He rubs his hand soothingly over that side of your ass before switching to the other and giving it the same treatment.
“Four.”
Your hands squeeze tight around the fabric of the seat beneath you, panting in soft, shallow gasps readying yourself for the next slap as tears run down your cheeks.
“Five. Halfway now, sweetheart. You’re taking it so well.”
You gasp as your walls clench around the dildo inside you in response, thighs trembling.
“You like that don’t you sweetheart, such a dirty little slut for me. Get ready, here comes six.”
He’s swapped sides again, you feel the toy slipping as your body jolts with the force of his hand. You clench down around it trying to keep it in place but it pushes you closer to the edge.
Before you know it seven and eight have come in quick succession and your head is falling forward into the seat, moaning into the material there.
“Thought you were gonna be a good girl today, you started off so well too. Wearing your pretty little dress for me. Didn’t think I’d have to punish you.”
“‘M sorry.” You wail, squeezing on the toy again your walls beginning to flutter.
“I know you are sweetheart, you’re such a good girl. I’m so proud of you, taking your punishment so well.” He croons as he soothes over your abused flesh with his hand.
“Ohhh fuck… Eddie, Eddie, Eddie.” You chant like a prayer as your next orgasm crashes over you like a tidal wave, your walls gripping the toy inside you like a vice, your cum dribbling all around it. He lands hits, nine and ten as you do so, counting them out.
“Did you just cum again? Fucking hell so impatient today, can’t even wait for me to give you what you really want. You wish that was my dick you were cumming all over, don’t you?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Well, then why don’t I give it to you, you took your punishment so well after all, even if you did cum again without permission.” He twists the dildo around giving it a few thrusts as you whimper.
Tumblr media
He flips you over suddenly, leaving you a little dazed, your back now pressing into the seat. You’re not sure when he did it, but he’s got his jeans and boxers rolled down to his knees already, cock flushed, bright red and leaking precum.
“Wanna see your face when I split you open with my cock.”
You gasp as he grabs your legs pulling you closer, ‘til you’re teetering on the edge of the seat. Hooking his hands under your knees he hikes your legs up over his shoulders, resting your calves there. He pulls out the dildo from where it sits, buried within you, tossing it into the van and replacing it with his own thick length in one swift motion.
He rests there for a moment, his hands hooking around your thighs squeezing them tight. Slowly he begins moving, shallow thrusts in and out, a steady rhythm.
You breathe in and out harshly still trying to catch your breath. You gaze up at him in admiration, taking in the flush that creeps up his neck, dusting over his cheeks. “You’re so pretty, Eddie.” You whine.
“Fuck, princess why you gotta be so nice?”
“‘Cause I love you and ‘cause it’s true.”
“L-love you too… but ‘re you sure you’re not just sayin’ that ‘cause you got my dick all up inside you?”
You giggle, “Ask me again later then.”
He groans, “God, it feels good when you laugh when I’m inside you… it makes your little cunt just ripple around me.”
You whine as he gives a more forceful thrust.
“Play… play with your tits for me.” He pants out.
You move to obey, kneading your breasts in your palms and twisting your nipples. His thrusts are getting sloppy and he loosens his grip on one of your thighs. Running that hand down the inside of your leg ‘til he reaches the bundle of nerves at the apex of your thighs he begins stroking it in tight little circles.
Your wetness seeps out around him, running along his length and down to his balls, your combined whimpers and moans ringing out through the trees.
Tumblr media
“‘M gonna cum.” He growls, “You want it inside so when she gets here, she can see it fucking pouring out of you?”
You’d almost forgotten why you were even here in the first place, a little too cockdrunk and blissed out at this point. “Th-thought we were supposed to be showing her that you b-belong to me… not the other way around.” You manage to gasp in response.
“Yeah well, you belong to me, I belong to you, same thing. Now scream for me, cum all over my cock like you’ve been dying to since the beginning. Be a good little slut for me.”
He knows just what to say and you’re being swept away again, for the third time now crying out, “Fffuuuck… Eddie! Yes… God… fuck…”
You can feel his length twitching within you as he paints your quivering walls with his warm cum, crying out along with you.
He falls against you limply, forcing your legs up to your chest along with him, his curls falling forward into his face, panting heavily. You brush his hair aside to look into his eyes, “Sooo pretty.” You coo up at him.
“Christ that was something fucking else.” He exclaims.
“Fuck I know…but… she’s still not here. What time is it? Unless maybe she’s been and gone and we just didn’t notice?”
He props himself up with a hand by your shoulder, twisting the other to look at his watch, “Five ‘o three. I mean she could just be a little late, besides there’s something else I wanna do and if she hasn’t been and gone, this’ll be that much better for her to walk in on.” He grins mischievously.
You look up at him curiously, “What did you want to do?”
“I’m gonna eat my cum right out of you and if you just so happen to cum on my tongue, all the better.”
“Oh my god! Munson you will actually be the death of me!” You slap his chest.
“So, ‘re you saying you don’t want to do it?” He teases grinning down at you smugly.
You look away bashfully, “Well, no I didn’t say that.”
“Well, then let me get to work.”  He chuckles and pushes himself off the seat, letting his cock slip out of you, your legs fall back down on either side of him.
Tumblr media
He moves to kneel amongst the leaf litter on the ground. Pulling your hips to the edge of the seat he brings your thighs to sit by his ears. You pull yourself up with a hand on the headrest, sitting up to watch as he laves his tongue over your folds. He collects the remnants of his release with a low groan, probing at your entrance with his tongue.
It’s then that you hear it, cracking twigs, someone moving around outside. Then comes the call, “Eddie you here yet?!”
You make eye contact with her as she comes around the open passenger door, her mouth dropping open, frozen in shock.
“Oh my god, Chrissy! Shit, we forgot you were coming.” You slap on his shoulder but Eddie continues his ministrations between your thighs not letting up. You barely even have to play up your next reactions, “Oh, shit… fuck, Eddie like that… hmmmm… sorry, my boyfriend here is just insatiable. It’s not enough that he fucked me so hard I can’t walk, now he’s gotta eat his own cum out of me.”
Eddie refuses to relent, moving to suck on your clit hard, shoving his fingers in deep. He’s grazing over that soft, spongy spot that makes you see stars and just like that you’re cumming all over his tongue with sharp breathy gasps, head thrown back, eyes squeezing shut and thighs constricting around his head.
That snaps Chrissy out of it, she’s scrambling backwards, struggling not to trip over. God forbid, she ruin her revealing little outfit. She calls back, “Sorry! Fuck I’m sorry.”
You collapse back into the van laughing. Eddie’s head pops up, his chin slick with drool and cum, grinning at you, “So, how was that? Think she’ll be bothering me again?”
“That was perfect, somehow I think she got the message.”
“Good… you uh… wanna go again? Try for number five, I’m um… hard again.” He drops a hand to rub over his cock lazily.
“Jesus Christ you really are insatiable, come on I’ll just blow you instead.”
“Fuck, yes please.” He groans happily.
Tumblr media
Chrissy had avoided the pair of you since then, never meeting your eyes in the halls. Until one day you see her at the grocery store and decide to have some fun with it.
You approach her from behind before she even realises you’re there, nudging her shoulder, “Hey, Chrissy! Eddie tells me you haven’t been buying from him anymore, you still smoking?”
She spins around to face you discomfort evident on her face, looking anywhere but your eyes, she replies, “Uhhh… yeah, um I get my stuff from Reefer Rick now.”
“Oh, cool. That’s good, I mean Rick doesn’t have a girlfriend now, does he?”
“Ummm no, not that I know of.” She shifts uncomfortably on the spot.
“Anyway, nice seeing you. Bye.” You wave over your shoulder smirking to yourself.

change of plans
Liam Mairi x reader words: 1.6k 🏷: no book spoilers. she/her reader who Imogen calls a "girl" once. technical part three to the spider and one too many, but can be read as a standalone. these two are getting closer to getting together... I'm on hour 22 of this headache, and it made me think... ✨ riders getting migraines from using their signets too much ✨ and our sweet boy just needs to be taken care and cuddled of for once.
“Good morning, soft one.”
You groan, turning over and burying your face in your pillow. “Too early. Come back in an hour.”
She makes a sound like a laugh. “I thought you wouldn’t want to miss breakfast.”
You blink through the sleepiness, realizing how hungry you are. Did you eat dinner last night? How did you get back from the tavern? Maybe that whole thing was just one of those weird dreams you have when you’re a little too tired — you’re still recovering from that terrible virus that had swept through the quadrant earlier this month. But you must have been completely exhausted if you fell asleep still in your daytime clothes. You’re incredibly picky about that — you don’t even like to sit on your bed in anything you’ve worn outside your room.
And why does it smell like… man in here? Oh, gods…
“Yes, this is your own bed,” she says before you can ask. “And no, you didn’t sleep with anyone. Deigh’s boy walked you back here and made sure you were safe. We are in his debt.”
Deigh’s boy… oh, gods, she means Liam.
You still can’t believe that you fell asleep in your flight jacket. How drunk were you? You yawn into a too-long sleeve, pulling it back and inspecting it. Well, that’s definitely the source of the cologne smell. Oh, shit. Is this Liam‘s jacket?
“Indeed it is. I suggest you freshen up before returning it to him.”
You flop down against the pillow again, groaning.
“I’ve had enough riders to know that you need hot food after a night like that. And coffee. Up you get.”
She’s right. You scrape yourself out of bed, going through the motions of a shower and heading down to the cafeteria for breakfast, Liam’s jacket draped over your arm in case you run into him there. Hot food does indeed make you feel better, but you don’t see him there, nor any of his usual companions.
You’ll try the gym, maybe. A guy as muscled as him has to be spending his weekend mornings training, too.
You spot Imogen first, taking a breath before you approach her — she’s intimidating as hell. The twin daggers in her hands don’t help.
“Hi. Uh, is Liam around?”
You regret the question instantly as she looks you up and down shamelessly, unamused. You shouldn’t have assumed she’d know where he was — yeah, they’re friends, but not all Tyrrish move in packs. They aren’t really allowed to, outside of the common areas, anyway.
You’ve always thought that was a bullshit rule.
She finishes inspecting you, turning her head and yelling for him. “Liam! There’s a pretty girl here to see you!”
You burn with embarrassment, thankful that the gym isn’t too crowded. At least it’s a reassurance that you’ve cleaned up well enough if she called you pretty. That might be the nicest thing you’ve ever heard her say.
Liam appears in a split second, out of breath and a little sweaty as he smiles at you. “Hey! I’m glad you’re okay.”
Imogen leaves before you can thank her, clearly not deeming this conversation worth her time.
“I wanted to return this,” you begin carefully, “and to thank you for getting me back to my room in one piece, and to apologize for whatever dumb stuff I probably said last night when I was super out of it. I swear that’s never happened before, and I won’t let it happen again.”
“Nothing too dumb,” he says, but there’s a twinkle in his eye that tells you otherwise. “And it’s not a problem at all. I’m just glad you’re okay.”
You said that already, Deigh reminds him dryly.
There’s an awkward pause. You rock back and forth on your heels, Liam rubbing the back of his neck — both wondering who should speak next, and what to say.
He tries something first. “Do you want to study with me for the physics test tomorrow night?”
You weren’t expecting that.
“Sure,” you squeak. “Meet you after dinner?”
“Sounds good,” he manages, looking like he wasn’t expecting you to say yes.
As if you’d ever decline an invitation to do anything with Liam Mairi.
You offer him another smile. “Thank you again, really. I’ll get out of your hair now — your friend is waiting,” you excuse, nodding toward Garrick, who stands twenty feet away, looking impatient. He gives you a slick grin from his corner of the room, raising his eyebrows once.
Maybe his reputation for being a shameless flirt is true.
Liam manages a goodbye, and waits until you’re out of sight to take a whiff of the jacket — it smells like your perfume.
“You’re down so fucking bad, dude,” Garrick laughs, clapping a hand onto the younger boy’s shoulder. “She’s cute, though. Let me know if it doesn’t work out.”
Liam turns to glare at him.
“I’m kidding,” he says with a grin. “Not about her being cute — she’s a total catch — but I wouldn’t do that to you. Bro code and shit, y’know.”
Liam still looks unamused.
“You should see the look on your face. You wanna hit me soooo bad. Are we gonna fight, or are you saving your energy for later?” He asks, wiggling his eyebrows.
The jacket is dropped rather unceremoniously as Liam lunges forward, intent on tackling Garrick to the ground — easier said than done.
“Attaboy,” Garrick laughs, pushing back. “Knew that would get you to stop mooning over her and get back to work.”
Liam blinks, realizing that his friend was just messing with him. His moment of hesitation earns him a swift blow to the stomach, winding him. He doubles over, wheezing. “Fuck, Gare! What was that for?”
Xaden laughs from the sidelines. “It was a clean hit. Be glad he chose not to go for the head — don’t want to bust up that cute little nose before your date.”
Liam groans. “Not you, too.”
“Li’s going on a date? Our baby is all grown up,” Bodhi coos, reaching up to pinch his cheek, but his hand is quickly swatted away.
“Guys, seriously. We’re just studying.”
“That’s what they all say,” Garrick teases. “But physics can turn into anatomy very quickly if you do it right.”
“You would know, wouldn’t you?” Imogen asks.
“Sounds like someone’s jealous that I have more game than they do.”
The two of them continue their bickering, showing no signs of stopping any time soon, but Bodhi tries to make peace anyway.
“Hey,” Xaden says, touching his brother’s shoulder gently. “She seems nice. I’m happy for you.”
“She’s great. She… she sees past this, y’know,” he says quietly, looking down at his arm. “Most people don’t.”
“Yeah.” Another small silence. “Wanna fight?”
—————————————————————
You know something is wrong as soon as Liam walks in your door — his usual relaxed and cheery demeanor is gone. His bookbag is dragging him down like an anchor, his shoulders slumped. His eyes squeeze shut for a second as he adjusts to the bright mage light of your room, brighter than the dark hallways.
He visibly relaxes when you wave a hand to dim it; further evidence of your suspicion.
“Migraine?” you ask softly.
“Migraine,” he confirms, sounding utterly exhausted and a little embarrassed. “I always get them after Carr’s class. Hurts my eyes to use it too much.”
Poor thing.
“M’sorry,” he mumbles. “Know we were supposed to study tonight, but I feel like shit and I probably wouldn’t be good company. Can’t even think right now.”
“You are always excellent company,” you say gently. “But if you just want to lay down for a while, that’s fine. I feel pretty good about the test, anyway.”
He gives you a few slow blinks in response, like he’s wondering if you mean for him to leave and go lay down in his own room, or…
“C’mere,” you offer, patting your leg and scooting down a little to get more comfortable.
He kicks off his boots, shrugs off his jacket, and climbs up with you without hesitation, resting his head on your stomach and wrapping his arms around your hips with a cute, sleepy sigh, tucking in his legs so that they don’t hang off the bed.
You bring a hand up to stroke his hair, combing your fingers through the soft blonde strands.
“Thank you,” he murmurs. “Feels nice.”
“Did you take medicine? Drink some water?”
He makes a lazy sound of affirmation, muffled by your shirt.
“I’m assuming that’s a yes. I don’t speak mumble,” you tease quietly.
He nods his head yes against your stomach, cuddling into you further with a soft hum.
“Alright, sweet boy. Get some sleep if you can, hm?”
Your hand stills, and he whines softly, complaining that you’d stopped. You shake your head in amusement, starting up again. “Sorry, baby.”
Baby indeed — it must hurt pretty badly for the Liam you know, who’s big and tall and tough, ranked first overall in Emeterrio’s challenges, to be this soft and small, letting someone take care of him. Letting you take care of him.
You feel a little swell of pride that he’s okay being vulnerable with you — you suppose it’s warranted after he’d walked your very inebriated self back home from the tavern two days ago. You can trade embarrassments.
Still, you wish he didn’t have to be in pain to come to you like this, to curl up with you like a fully-grown hound who thinks he’s still a lapdog. It’s adorable.
You stay like this until the sun goes down, petting the soft blonde strands and lightly massaging the base of his neck to relieve the tension, even after he’s sound asleep. When your hand slips from his hair again, it’s because you’ve fallen asleep yourself, comforted by the weight of his body against yours and the slow, deep rhythm of his breathing.

“Do It For Us.” Pt.2
Summery: A quirkless girl tired, sick and tired of being helpless, tired of being weak. Bullied all her life along side her best friend and longer term crush, Izuku Midoriya. Happy she isn’t alone…but he gets in to UA? Leaving her behind…what’s left for her? Seems a blonde takes pity on her.
M. Izuku x AFAB! Reader x B. Katsuki
Pt.1
Tumblr media
The morning with katsuki Bakugou was, weird to say the least. He wakes you up bright and early, his face a bit pink, you were confused into why. You two waited for each other to change, you two brushed your teeth together. It felt weirdly domestic.
Breakfast was wonderful, Mrs. Bakugou made some special Omurice for you and Bakugou and it was delicious! And surprisingly Bakugou barley spoke this morning just the few remarks here and there. Guess he’s not a morning person.
Walking to school with Bakugou was even weirder, it was awkwardly silent. You never tried to start any conversation, except you just wanted to thank him. And ask why the sudden change of heart? Why help you after putting you through so much? Did something happen?
“Hey, I just wanted to say-“ of course the timing couldn’t be worse, his lackies and more boys bombarded him, pushing you out the way. You simply shrug, glancing at the blonde boy before making your way into the school to wait for Izuku. Realizing that Izuku is probably wondering where you were.
Tumblr media
“Where were you Y/n!? I was worried sick!” Izuku ran to your desk, worry in his face. You were currently staring into the distance for what seemed like ever.
“I was…not home..so I walked to school in a different path.” You smile, grabbing Izuku’s hand to try and soothe his worry. “Oh…why? Why weren’t you home!” He proceeded to grab your hands with both his.
“Uh…just some personal stuff, nothing too serious !” You laugh, giving him a soft look. You loved whenever he worried for you, it made your heart soar and your serotonin levels went off the charts.
“Oh…well if you have more trouble. Please, come to me…I would hate for you to get hurt. Again.” He looked at your hand dejectedly, “oh! I have something great to tell…” as soon as his smile was up it faded as soon as it came. It’s like he realized something.
“I’m going to get into UA…I will. I have a chance now!” He gave you the most determined look, a look you haven’t seen since you were young. One where you knew you couldn’t argue against.
“Good luck Izu…work hard! Do it for…do it for us! We quirkless people need a rep too!” You let go of his hands as the rest of the class came flooding in. You couldn’t help but think. What if he really got in? Am I a bad friend for not believing in him? Is it bad to hope?
What if he leaves me behind?
Questions and thoughts raced through your mind, not even noticing you were staring at the back of Izuku’s head.
Don’t go…
Don’t leave me alone…
Tumblr media
Being so stuck in your head, you never even noticed the day ending. Until you finally heard Izuku calling out your name.
“Y/n! Are you okay? I’ve been calling out your name for ages!” You turn to Izuku, noticing the almost empty classroom. “Oh! Sorry just lost in thought!” You laugh sheepishly, scratching the nape of your neck. Izuku shook his head chuckling.
“Oi! Y/n…hurry yer’ ass up.” The familiar hot head was standing at the classroom door way, you quickly get up to gather your things. Izuku was clearly confused by this. What did Bakugou mean? Are you two hanging out? How and why?
“Wh-what? Why would she-“ he stops, seeing the smile on your face when you look at Bakugou, the same smile you always give him. That friendly and loving smile.
“See ya Izu! I gotta go but we’ll talk later!” You giggle waving him goodbye as you make it to Katsuki’s side. The two of you making your way out of the classroom leaving the green-haired boy with so many questions.
When did you two become friends…?
Tumblr media
It had been a few months since you’ve been staying in the Bakugou family households. You’ve never been happier, you felt as if they were your own family! They helped you with everything, you almost forgot about your old family. Almost.
That is until you were walking to the school with Katsuki one day, talking about breakfast and how katsuki wakes you up way too early.
“No! Katsu-…you really wake me up way too early I always have an hour left of free time!” You protest to the boy, playfully shoving his shoulder.
“Yeah yeah whatever, you wouldn’t wake up at all without me!” He argued, he grabbed your bag throwing it over his shoulder. Katsuki had made it a habit to carry your bag. How sweat. You thought. Everything finally felt right, the bullying almost stopped, you had a nice family! You’re ere finally happy!
“Y/n?” The voice made you freeze, like a dear in headlights you stopped in your tracks to see your father standing at the school gates.
“Y/n! Oh my gosh we’ve been worried sick!” Your father reached out for you only for Bakugou to slap his hand away, putting himself in between you and your dad. Giving you a chance to compose your self, something strange happened, katsuki grabbed your hand. And tightly at that.
“What do you want old man!?” Katsuki shouted anger my glaring at your father. “Y/n!? You’ve been running off with some boy while your mother suffers!?” This caught your attention. What? What happened to your mother?
“What…? What’s wrong with mom…?” You peek from behind Katsuki, righting your grip on his hand. “She’s sick! In the hospital all because you’ve gone missing! I can’t believe it!” You could tell he was getting angry, really angry. Your heart started racing, continuing to cower behind katsuki never letting go of his hand.
“Don believe him…it’s a trick. They all always use the same excuse. Cmon Y/n.” Katsuki pulls you along with him making sure to keep distance between you and your father.
“You’ll regret this Y/n! What if your mother dies huh!?” This made you stop katsuki from walking, turning to your father. You didn’t know what to do, you didn’t know what to say.
Shall you return to save your mother?
Or stay where it’s safe.
You look back up at Katsuki, the boy who’s given you so much.
“If your mom cared about you wouldn’t she go searching? They don’t love you Y/n. I know you love your mom…but she doesn’t love you anymore. And if she did she’d want you to stay where it’s safe…” he fully turned around to steady you. Cupping your face in his hand, you could tell he was worried. You trusted him.
Your father couldn’t be trusted, katsuki who had changed so much for you. You’ll believe him. “S…sorry dad…but you are no longer my father! I’ve been happy! Tell mom…I love her and hope she finds happiness herself!” You scream, quickly pulling Katsuki along with you as you run away. Run like your life depended on it.
Katsuki let out a sigh of relief.
Tumblr media
At school you and katsuki always parted ways. But he left you alone for the most part! Especially not wanting to be around Izuku.
“It’s the last day…and the exams are in 3 more months…” Izuku mumbled to himself. “Really? I’d didn’t even notice that…” you’ve been having such a good time lately you didn’t notice it was your last day of jounior high.
“Hey…Izu…what if you do get in? Where…where would I go?” You finally said it looking into Izuku’s eyes, looking for a sign, anything for him to stay with you.
“I…I don’t know…but I’m doing this for us!” He gave you his signature big smile, the smile that you loved. But you knew that loving him will give you nothing, it’ll only hurt you.
You knew you could never keep up with him.
You were his past. Not his future.
You knew you had to push these feelings down, you had to look to your own future. You just didn’t know what. It’s always been with Izuku. It’s always been him. You felt your words get stuck in your throat as you try not to cry.
“Yeah…do it…I’ll cheer you on from the sidelines. Just don’t forget about me when you become number 1 Izu.” You give him a big smile, tears streaming down your face, Izuku embraced you, you breath in his scent for one last time.
Goodbye, Izuku Midoriya, my first love.
My everything.
As you hugged him you noticed something different, he was a lot musclier than normal.
“H-have you been working out?” You sniffle, leaning away from him. He lets out a long laugh at your sudden statement.
“Uh…yeah! Yknow heros, they can’t just be smart.” You two share on last laugh together.
Tumblr media
AN: Part 2 is a little shorter! I might drag this out for 3-4 more parts! Because I love this little story <3 I hope you all enjoy! Get ready for part 3! What will the reader be? How does she live without Izuku by her side anymore!?

Tumblr media
As you enter, you try your best not to make too much noise. You set the bags down lightly and ease the inner door shut. You can hear your dad and the soft sound of puzzle pieces meeting the table.
“Ya know, thirty years almost, but I can see her just like yesterday,” he says.
Your heart clutches. You never heard him talk about your mom. When you were a kid and didn’t know better, he just ignored all your questions about her. When you got older, you stopped asking. You figured it’s easier for both of you to pretend she never was.
“I’m sorry, hon,” Leslie comforts, “you know, in my line of work, I’ve seen it over and over. It’s a wound you can’t heal.”
“Oh yeah,” he grits, “yeah, I’d say…”
You swallow and lean back on your foot, crinkling the bags behind you. You cringe as you hear sudden movement. You turn and work to slip off the white loafers. You pretend like you weren’t listening as Leslie’s shadow looms from the archway.
“You’re home,” she proclaims, “we didn’t think you’d be so early.”
“Me either,” you say as you face her.
Her lashes flick and her mouth opens, “oh my, you look so good! Weren’t you working today?”
“Uh, did some work,” you lie, “I got a few hours off so I… did some running around.”
“Oh, gosh, come on, you have to show your dad,” she takes you by the wrist and tugs you around, “Charles, look at your girl.”
She presents you with her hands on your shoulders. You can’t even look at your dad as the couch creaks and he grunts at your appearance. He snorts and pushes another piece into the puzzle.
“What am I looking at?” He sneers.
“Charles, don’t be like that. Look at her hair, and this dress,” she touches your hips, “must be a nice job, huh?”
“It’s alright,” you shimmy out of her grasp, “I just… needed something more presentable–”
“Something shorter,” your father scoffs, “so when she’s bending to tidy the floors you can see right up.”
“Charles, that’s gross,” Leslie reprimands.
“Truth can be like that,” he snickers, “think some man’s buying her fancy clothes so she can sweep? We both know how she pays for you.”
“No… it’s not…” you shrug and give up, “I’m gonna put my stuff away and start dinner. If you want, you can head off early too.”
“Oh, I don’t mind sticking around,” Leslie says as she once more sits beside your dad, “let me know if you need any help with dinner. Don’t wanna get anything on that nice little dress.”
You nod and hesitate. You can’t tell what she means by that. For as much as she can call out your father, she often speaks with an edge of her own. Just like the cigarettes, she must assume his insults are your fault.
You leave the room and grab the bags. You carry them up the stairs to your room. You shut the door and sit on the end of the bed. You bend and cradle your head, trying to set it straight after the dizzying day.
👠
The bus provides a momentary break from your hostile world. There is no safe place for you. Home is barely that and work is… confusing. Your only escape is to focus on your tasks and get through them. Get through Mr. Laufeyson’s list then come home and the chores left untouched.
Your look at the time on your phone and black the screen. You get a glimpse of your reflection off the glass as you do. You didn't do too bad with the makeup. It looks okay. You tried not to use too much as you recalled Eliana's instructions.
You shake off your doubts and airy feeling around your legs. You're not use to the skirt or the pretty fabrics. You feel overdressed and out-of-place, but the latter is so new to you.
Through the gate and along the edge of the drive, you hear your name flutter in the air. You stop short as you see Frigga strolling along the hedges, caressing the petals of a rose. She draws away and strides towards you, an ivory skirt paired with a golden brown blouse and nude heels.
“You do start early, don’t you?” She approaches and takes your hand, “come, let’s have tea.”
“Oh, uh, I…” you let her tug you along the walkway towards the front door, “the carpenter is coming today–”
“Ah yes, Loki mentioned you were working on restoring the gazebo. That’s lovely. We used to have tea there, me and… his wife. She was a laugh.”
“Mm,” you hum. Whoever this woman was, she must’ve been very special. You imagine a beautiful woman with silky hair and long legs like Frigga. She must’ve fit right in.
“I suppose if it was meant to be, it would be. I only hope my son can find happiness again,” she squeezes your hand before she lets you go.
She opens the door and waves you in ahead of her. You slip out of your flats much easier than your usual lace-up sneakers. She steps out of her heels and sighs.
“That’s his problem, you know? He’s lonely but too proud to admit it,” she sidles around you and leads you down to the kitchen. You follow and watch as she goes to the counter and pours from the waiting teapot. “Though I haven’t seen him today. I suppose he’s sleeping in, it is the weekend.”
You tilt your head but don’t comment. For as long as you’ve worked for him, not very long at all, he’s never slept past your arrival. Well, not so far as you know.
“I do love this skirt,” she comes back around the counter and touches the tweed, “wonderful pairing,” she touches the blouse with the petal shaped cutouts around the high-collar, “you’re learning.”
“Um, yeah, all the clothes are so pretty,” you say.
“Please, have your tea. I’m sure you have time before the carpenter,” she urges.
“Right, er, I’ll just take my bag upstairs first,” you say, “out of the way.”
“Sure,” she accepts with a kind smile, “how about I take this out to the patio, we can enjoy the sun?”
“Alright,” you agree and hike up your bag, “thank you.”
You quickly flit off and head upstairs. You weren’t expecting her to be there. You just hadn’t thought of it. You only dreaded facing your unbendable boss and his persistent stare.
You go into the library and tuck your bag under the writing desk. You double check the schedule in your phone; Ronan, 10. You have an hour before he arrives.
Your mind is already on the gazebo as you scurry back into the hall. As you shut the door gently, you hear a groan. You peer down towards the unusual noise and blink at the slightly ajar door. The main bedroom. Mr. Laufeyson’s. It rises again before a drawn out exhale, his timbre rumbling low.
You quickly set back to your path and flee downstairs. Maybe he’s talking in his sleep, or more likely, stretching out a few kinks. Your curiosity quickly dissipates as you pass through the dining room and out into the patio.
Frigga sits with large pointed sunglasses over her eyes. She tilts her face up to the sunlight as you sit before the other cup of tea. You pull it close and look out at the yard. A streak of green catches your gaze.
You watch the hummingbird hover over fuchsia petals. You stare dreamily, lulled by the peace of the moment as Frigga merely sips and basks. This isn’t so bad. The bird zips between flowers before disappearing behind a tree. In his stead, the skittish chipmunk scrambles along the railing of the patio. You smile at his fluffy tail.
“I’ll be off tomorrow,” Frigga states, “my husband will be expecting me. Oh, but I’ll miss you, darling.”
“Is it very far?” You wonder.
“Four or five hours,” she answers, “not very far but enough. It’s so lovely up where we are. I wish you could see. Perhaps one day. When things are better.”
Before you can answer, there’s a subtle click behind you.
“Morning,” Mr. Laufeyson’s voice is unleashed onto the scene as the patio door swings inward, “mother,” he pauses before he enunciates your name, “beautiful day out.”
Your shoulders stiffen and nearly touch your ears as you sit straight. He pulls out the chair at your other elbow and sets down another teacup with a clink. He sits and smooths back his dark hair, tucking the spiralled ends behind his ears.
“Late morning,” his mother remarks, “any tea left?”
“Some, shall I–”
He puts his hands flat, moving to stand but she shoos him as she’s quicker to rise, “I’ll get it myself. And you darling,” she dips her chin in your direction, “more?”
“Oh, no thanks, I’m still… working on mine. Thank you, Frigga,” you say, mindful of each syllable.
She leaves and the door clicks shut behind her. You stare at the brim of your cup, turning it slowly between your hands as Laufeyson raises his own to his lips. He drinks carefully before putting it down again.
He’s quiet. He shifts and plants an elbow on the table. He turns his attention to the yard and watches. You dare to look up as well, the chipmunk poking his head out from the bush where he hides. He ran away at Mr. Laufeyson’s arrival.
“Cute little fellow,” he remarks as he faces you again. You quickly lower your eyes.
“Uh, yeah…”
“Mmm,” he drones and taps his fingers on the porcelain teacup, “you… that’s a nice shirt.”
“Thanks,” you lift your cup and drain most of it, gulping painfully as you put it back down, “I should go start. Ronan will be here shortly–”
“The carpenter?”
“Yes, Mr. Laufeyson, I have him penned in–” You explain.
“And? He is a carpenter, he knows what he’s doing. I doubt he needs you watching over his shoulder.”
“I know, uh, but I should be there to let him in,” you slide your cup off the table.
“You’re not even done your tea.”
“I’ll finish on my way in–”
“You’re avoiding me,” he accused and you wince.
“What?”
“You’re running away? Why?” He challenges.
“I’m not, I– I have work to do.”
“Work I give you. I’m your boss, you may sit and finish. I’ll permit it.”
You falter and set the cup on the table. You lower yourself back to the seat and fold your hands. You look at your lap and push your shoulders back. He is back to his haughty demands, you find that part of him easier to handle.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Laufeyson, I wasn't running away.”
He scoffs thinly and his nostrils flare as he stares off at the hedges that edge the patio, “I wonder why you can be so quick to flee me when you sat and let my brother feel you up.”
“Huh?” You blanch, stuck by the accusation. “Mr. Laufeyson, I–”
“I know him well and I’m not as blind as my mother. I saw it. You didn’t say a word. You just let him do it,” he clucks, “why?”
Your eyes round and you bat your lashes. You nearly choke, the acidic flavour of the tea drying on your tongue. Was it that bad? You tried not to think about it, to let it affect you, even as the memories flashed in your head, you just tried not to feel anything about it.
“I didn’t… well… he’s your brother, Mr. Laufeyson, I didn’t want to assume… to offend–” you stammer.
“So you let him do what he wants?” He snarlss as he turns his sights on you, a brow arch tritely. “You do not work for him, you work for me.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know what to do,” you sputter, confused by his anger. “I tried to…”
Your voice trails off. No, you didn’t try. You were too afraid too. He’s right, you let Thor keep touching you and you didn’t say anything, you didn’t move, you just froze up.
“It makes me wonder,” he cups his chin, leaning on his elbow, “how far would you let him get, hm?”
“Mr. Laufeyson,” you whimper, “I’m sorry–”
“Did you like how he touched you?”
“N-no, Mr. Laufeyson, no, of course not,” you plead.
“You do not want him to touch you?” He prompts.
“No, I… didn’t know how to say—”
“Shhh,” he hushes you, lifting his chin from his hand and pressing his finger to his lips. He pulls his hand away to point at you, “I’ve a better question…” He reaches towards you and you flinch. You quiver as he traces the cutout along the top of your blouse, “how far would you let me go?”
You squirm as he hooks his finger inside the teardrop window in the fabric. His fingertip brushes you as he gives a slight tug, looming closer as he draws you towards him. He smirks as you stare dumbfounded. What is he doing?
“My brother will not touch you again,” his voice is low and rocky, “I will make sure of it.” He tickles you slightly and rescinds his hand, “and you will make sure to remember who you belong to.”
He sits back and hooks his fingers in the handle of the porcelain mug. As if on cue, the french doors open behind you and Frigga trills as she emerges, “oh, just enough tea,” she announces, “I added a dash of honey this time.”
She places the cup by her empty chair but does not sit. She twirls and paces around the patio, going to the flower boxes along the rail. She leans in to examine them.
“Perhaps the carpenter could have a look here, it’s crooked,” she declares. “And I dare say the guest room has a loose floorboard right near the bed.”
“Mm, perhaps, mother,” Laufeyson drawls as he once more raises his cup, his eyes stuck on you, “my house manager will be sure to ask, won’t she?”
“Yes, Mr. Laufeyson,” you wisp out through your constricted throat, barely registering his command.
You can only hear his previous words echoing, over and over; remember who you belong to. Belong to… No, you only work for him.

awkward (c.yj)

ʚ♡⃛ɞ you let your best friend see your body, and now it's awkward
☆。.:*·゚wc 5251 angst + suggestive ౨ৎ // repost ୨୧ yeonjun x fem!reader, college!au, best friends to lovers to ??? [masterlist • reblogs + feedback appreciated]
Tumblr media
of all the friends you have at college, you’ve known yeonjun the longest. your mothers grew up together and were those best friends that dreamed of raising their kids together. you saw each other through snotty noses and scraped knees in elementary school and through first heartbreaks and senior prom dates. he was even the one who convinced your parents to let you move from your small suburban town to the big city for college.
tonight, you’re sitting on the couch in one of his friend’s apartment, nursing another red solo cup, watching him suck the face off of some random girl.
you feel a pit in your stomach.
anyone would think that because you had known each other for so long, seen each other at your absolute worst, there would be no way your relationship would ever cross that platonic-romantic line. but as you watched yeonjun become the confident man that he was today, the image of that bratty little kid who always tried to get you into trouble faded away, and you just couldn’t help but develop these weird feelings about your best friend.
there have been many times where you have actually brought up the idea of you guys getting together. jokingly, of course. because lord knows that you would never seriously tell him how much you wanted his soft lips against yours. especially not after he laughs whenever you bring it up.
so now, you just watch him, as he leaves you in a corner at the house parties he drags you along to, flight with other people.
you chug the remainder of the drink in your hand, wincing at the warm taste. you hate the taste of beer but it’s the only thing they have at these stupid parties. you get up a little too fast, and the wind almost knocks you back down. you didn't think you were that drunk, but then again this was your third drink in the last hour.
you walk over to the kitchen and tap the black haired boy on the shoulder. he moans against her lips, not even acknowledging the fact that you were right next to him. you feel the blood rush up to your cheeks as you tap him again. this time, the girl pulls away from him. “can i help you?” she asks.
you don’t even look at her, just at your best friend, who looked annoyed at the fact that you just interrupted him. his arm was still wrapped around her waist.
“jun, i want to go home.” he looked between the two of you, hesitant in his response.
“right now?”
“yeah, i’m kind of tired.” you looked at the rest of the party. “i don’t really want to be here right now.”
“do you want me to call you a car?” he ran his fingers through his hair. are you really trying to cockblock him right now?
“i think i’m going to throw up.” you lied.
“fuck,” he mumbled, “seriously?” you slowly nodded in response. “okay, shit,” he turned to the girl, his arm still around her waist. “i’ve gotta go.”
“you’re seriously leaving me right now?”
“i need to take her home.” his voice sounded sad. “but, uh… i’ll see you around?” it sounded more like he was trying to convince himself that he would ever speak to this girl again. she pushed him away from her and walked out of the kitchen.
his arm supports your back as he walks you to your apartment. his friend’s place was already small, but the fact that it was packed like a can of sardines made you feel a little claustrophobic. the night air definitely sobered you up. but you still feel a little woozy as you make your way into your apartment. yeonjun carefully walks you over to your room and lays you on the bed.
“do you want to stay the night?” you ask him in a small voice.
“no,” he is already halfway to the bedroom door now. “i have to work in the morning.”
“i’m sorry.”
“for what?” he walks back to your bed.
“for making you leave early.”
“it’s all good. you should go to bed though.”
“can you please stay?” you ask again, a little more desperately this time.
“i’ll see you later, y/n.” he bends down to kiss your forehead. “good night.”
Tumblr media
it was the last day of finals and you and yeonjun were celebrating together in his apartment. “i can’t believe we’re finally done. this semester was rough.” he was double majoring in music business and dance and he had a lot of final projects to complete in those last few weeks of school and this was the first time you had seen each other since last month. “how should we celebrate?” he asks you with a smile on his face. you missed him.
“i think,” you begin, an evil grin appearing on your face. “we should play truth or truth.”
“that’s not a real game.” he interjects.
“yes, it is. and we are going to play it, but every time you do a truth, you have to take a shot of this.” you pull out a bottle of fireball from your bag.
“that sounds like a recipe for disaster.”
“true.” you shrug. “but c’mon. it will be fun.”
and he agrees.
you are both three rounds into the game now and your throat is already starting to burn. the questions started out easy and light but now your head is starting to feel a little fuzzy and the air is starting to get a little tense. you sit cross-legged on the couch opposite yeonjun, the bottle of fireball between your two bodies. maybe it was the way he was looking at you or the fact that you had been drinking knowing that the last meal you ate was a nutella sandwich before your last exam five hours ago. whatever it was, it was making your stomach do flips.
“it’s your turn now.” you giggle.
“ok… when was the last time you made out with anyone?” he asks you.
fuck. why did he have to ask you that? you were a little embarrassed that it had been a minute since you had been remotely intimate with anyone. “i don’t know…” your voice trails off sheepishly, you try to hide your face with one of the cushions on the couch.
“what do you mean “you don’t know?”” he is surprised. he always had friends asking him to set them up with you. “what about that guy from that party we went to?”
“what guy at what party?”
“the one guy who you were talking to all night. i thought you guys hooked up.”
“well, we didn’t.” you pour your shot and immediately drink it. “can we move on? please?”
“well, would you make out with me?”
“it’s my turn to ask the question, yeonjun.” you feel the blood rush up to your face.
“okay, but would you?” he moves the bottle to the coffee table, and inches closer to you. he was right; this game was a recipe for disaster.
Tumblr media
“i can’t believe you had sex with yeonjun.”
“yell it out for the whole world to know.” it is a week later and you are having lunch with one of your friends. you told her what happened with yeonjun and she cheered, gleefully, saying that she was happy it finally happened. it seemed like all your other friends had an ongoing bet about your relationship with your best friend, and she just made twenty dollars.
“so are you guys finally together now?” she leans forward, her palms supporting her chin, invested in your love life.
“god, no.” you sigh. “i haven’t talked to him since then. i actually left when he went to the bathroom and he’s been texting me but i don’t know what to say.”
“you left when he was in the bathroom?” she exclaims, causing you to groan.
“i made things so awkward now. i don’t even know what to do.”
“so you’re ghosting him? and i thought he was the fuckboy.”
“i’m not ghosting him. i just don’t know what to say to him.”
“so you’re ignoring his text. y/n, that is literally the textbook definition of ghosting.”
“what do you want me to say to him? “i’m sorry i’ve been ignoring you after i snuck out of your place after we fucked?” and through text? i sound like such a fucking asshole.” a woman passing with her child glares at you. you groan again.
“you kind of are an asshole, y/n.” her phone vibrates on the table and she looks at it, a smile forming on her face. “looks like you don’t have to say that through text?”
“what?”
“yeonjun is throwing a party to mark the end of the school year. his friend just invited me and you’re my plus one.”
“he didn’t tell me about that.”
“well, how do you expect him to tell you that when you’re ghosting him?”
“i’m not ghosting him!” you try to defend yourself. “and i don’t think i’m going to go. what if he doesn’t want to see me?”
“if he didn’t want to see you, i would not have been invited. and besides, i don’t want to go by myself.”
with one final groan, you put your head against the cold diner table.
Tumblr media
you and your friend arrive at the party and thank goodness, you hadn’t seen yeonjun yet. she promised that she would stay by your side all night and you’re very grateful that so far she has kept her promise. the two of you walk into the kitchen.
you’re making small talk with some mutual friends when someone comes in and asks if you know where yeonjun is. right then, he comes into the kitchen laughing with his friend. his smile drops when he sees you. you wave at him, with a small smile. he turns the other way to answer the person who asked if he wants to play beer pong.
“well, that was embarrassing.” you say to your friend, trying to push your tears back.
“y/n we can leave if you want to.” she tells you, rubbing my arm.
“no it’s fine. i’m fine. besides, we just got here and you promised me we would have fun.”
“okay, but if you want to leave, let me know.”
you couldn’t even try to have fun that evening because you spent the entire party trying to avoid yeonjun. when he was in the living room, you were in the kitchen. when he was in the kitchen, you were on the balcony. when you were sure he was on the balcony, you escaped to the bathroom.
this is so ridiculous. you think, staring at your face in the mirror. you sit on the toilet scrolling through your phone until you hear faint voices outside the door.
“did you know y/n was going to be here?” you could recognize that voice anywhere.
“no, but she’s always at these things. aren’t you guys best friends?”
“uh… yeah, i mean.” you can hear him groan. “something happened and she ghosted me and now she’s at my fucking party.”
why does everyone think i ghosted him?
“what is “something”?”
“if i tell you this, you have to promise not to tell anyone.”
“damn, did you guys fuck or something?” there is a pregnant pause on the other end of this conversation. “fuck!”
“and she fucking ghosts me. complete fucking radio silence for a whole fucking week and then she shows up at my place again.”
“maybe she’s just scared. i mean, your relationship changed overnight.”
“then send an emoji or something. don’t just ghost your best friend.” he stops for a second, sighing. “and, our relationship wasn’t supposed to change. we know each other. we don’t judge each other.”
“do you regret it?”
“regret having sex with y/n? no. i just wish we were still friends now.”
 me too.
you clear your throat and take a look in the mirror. he’s still outside the door but it is starting to dawn on you that camping out in his bathroom all night is neither sustainable nor serious. also, why are you trying to avoid him? it’s better to talk it out once and for all than have him hate you forever. you walk out of the bathroom and see him standing there with his friend. when they hear the door click, they both turn to look at you and his friend makes a face at him. yeonjun grimaces back and they begin walking back to the living room to join the rest of the party.
fuck, okay maybe that’s why you were avoiding him?
your heart is racing now and something in the back of your mind is telling you to just walk back into the bathroom and save yourself from further embarrassment that evening. but then you remember that this is your best friend. he couldn’t really be that mad at you, could he?
“hey, yeonjun.” you call after him and he turns around with a groan. “can we talk, please?” his friend pats his back in encouragement and yeonjun walks towards you.
“now you want to talk to me?” he spits at you.
you feel a chill down your spine at his tone. only he could make you feel so small with such a simple comment. “i was never ignoring you.” you reply. your voice is quieter and more strained than you wanted it to be. you clear your throat and repeat yourself.
he laughs at your attempt to gain confidence. “really, because i was this close to sending a carrier pigeon to your house to get you to talk to me.”
“i’ve just been busy.”
“busy?” he raises his eyebrows in disbelief, his voice dripping in sarcasm.
“yeah, i was busy. i have a life, you know?” you cringe internally at how defensive you sounded. why are you getting so riled up?
“you don’t have to try and convince me. i believe you.” you are standing against the bathroom door and he is still at the end of the hallway. silence fills the gap between the two of you, until he clears his throat and begins to speak again. “so, what did you want to talk about?”
“seriously?” you scoff. “there’s a massive elephant in the room, jun.”
“i mean, what exactly do you want to say y/n?” he looks behind him to the rest of the party. you feel like you were wasting his time.
“i wanted to say i’m sorry for leaving, but–” you begin but you couldn’t get far because he chuckles. “is something funny?” you ask.
“you know when people apologize, like give a sincere apology, there are usually no buts.”
you run your hands through your hair in frustration. you’re trying to clear the air and he’s interrupting you. seriously? “i am apologizing, but–”
“you’re doing it again.” he smirk. he always did enjoy getting you flustered.
“it was awkward.” you blurt out, not giving him a chance to interrupt you again.
“not to me,” he says under his breath, quiet enough for you to almost miss it. but you don’t.
“c’mon jun, we’re friends.” you reply, plainly.
“you and i both know that we aren’t just friends.” he moves closer to you and your breath hitches in your throat.
“yes, we are,” your voice cracks. “ you’re my best friend.” you’re lying through your teeth, trying harder to convince yourself that your feelings for him were made up and he most definitely did not reciprocate them.
“so, why did you leave?” he asks, arms crossed, completely unmoved by the fact that you were about to burst into tears.
“because,” you push back your tears. “because, we’re friends and friends don’t fuck. but we did and i felt so awkward. i made it awkward.” you’d humiliated yourself in front of him too many times in the past week and you were determined to not cry in front of him and have him pity you.
“now what?” he asks, his arms folded in front of his chest.
“what?” you look up at his face, really examining his eyes. the eyes that looked at you fondly and made your stomach do flips were gone.
“you left my house right after we had sex and then you ignored me for a week. you show up to my party uninvited with your “apology” so what now? what do you want from me?” he never raises his voice at you, but he can still manage to make you feel stupid and small.
“i want us to go back to normal.”
“you want us to go back to normal?” he chuckles, not so much in a mean way but more in a confused way. like you just told him that the sky is actually green and grass is blue.
“is that so much to ask for?”
“y/n, you left.”
“but i’m here now.” your voice cracks again.
“and that’s supposed to mean something.”
“yes, yeonjun. it means that i’m here and i’m trying. i want us to be friends again, okay?” you plead. “i’m sorry for leaving and i’m sorry for ghosting you after but i’m here now. i’m trying.”
he sighs and massages his forehead before looking at you. he’s never had a great poker face, but right now his face is blank and you can’t read him at all. “i don’t think we can be friends anymore. not the way we used to.”
“we can try, please.”
“no, we can’t. you were right. it’s awkward now. you made it awkward now.” he starts leaving but turns around. “you shouldn’t have come.” and with that he disappears back into the party.
you sit on the floor for a minute before you feel your phone vibrate in your back pocket.
where did you go????
you look at the time. it had been almost thirty minutes since you told your friend that you needed to go to the bathroom.
im by the bathroom can we leave now
Tumblr media
you took a week to mourn the end of your longest friendship and then you spent the rest of the summer pretending that you had accepted it and distracted yourself with work. you didn’t see a lot of people over break because many of your friends were actually yeonjun’s friends and he got them in the quasi custody battle. now you weren’t getting invites to all the parties you once did, you had to find a distraction in being a straight-a student.
you’re working on a homework assignment when your parents call, asking what your plans for the holidays are.
“i’ve just been really busy, mom.” you tell her when she asks why they haven’t seen you in months. the truth is, you knew yeonjun was going home for summer break and as much as you tried to convince yourself that you were completely over everything that happened between the two of you, you really weren’t. and the last thing you wanted to do was see him everyday for two months.
“you always say that honey.” you roll your eyes at your mom’s passive aggressive comment. “but we will see you in a few weeks, right?”
“you will?” you rack your brain to see if you forgot whether or not you invited your parents to come visit you at your university or something.
“it’s winter break honey.” you had been stuck in a routine of going to work, going to class, and doing your homework in your room. you had completely forgotten that the semester was coming to an end and you couldn’t avoid going home anymore.
“oh, right.” you reply before your mom proceeds to drone on about the annual dinner your family has with your neighbors, which you absentmindedly listen to. “i don’t think i will be able to make that.”
“what? why not? we do it every year!”
she gives you half a second to come up with an excuse. you couldn’t just outright tell her that you didn’t want to see yeonjun and that’s why you haven’t come home since last winter and why you did not want to come home. because that would just be absurd. “i probably have to work on christmas eve. i’m not sure i can make it back home.” not very effective but you’re internally praying to the universe that she believes you and doesn’t push it any further.
but, alas, the universe has not been on your side lately.
“it’s the holidays! i’m sure you can call out.”
“mom, i still have a lot of work to do for school so i still might not make it even if i can get out of work.”
“honey, you know we have this christmas eve dinner every year. and your dad and i have already started planning this year. you can’t say you just can’t make it.”
you sigh. she’s so annoying when she’s trying to persuade you. “i know mom but it’s just that i hate being the youngest person at these things. it’s so boring for me.”
“that won’t be a problem this year. you won’t be the youngest because a new family moved in over the summer, i think in june. they have kids around your age.” she perks up. “and yeonjun is going to be there too.”
“oh, right.” as if you could forget about that.
“we were wondering why you didn’t come home because he was home for a month over the summer.” your mom broke you away from your train of thought.
“i had to work mom.” you respond, dryly. since you told her that you weren’t coming home at the end of last summer. she’s been bringing it up everytime she talks to you. “and i still have to work so i’ll let you know if i can come home for the dinner.”
“oh, you’re coming home.”
“i’ll see, mom.” you’re trying to quickly get off the phone. “i have a lot of homework to catch up on so i’ll call you later. love you! bye!” you hang up.
you know she’s right and you are going to go home.
Tumblr media
from being your mother’s daughter you have learnt two fundamental truths: the salad fork goes on the outside of a plate setting and you need to learn how to lie. you have been at your childhood home since nine in the morning, trailing behind your mom as she prepares for the annual dinner. she made you stay with her the entire day, save for the two hours she allowed you to get ready before the guests arrived. even afterwards, she stayed by your side, forcing you to mingle with guests.
right now, you are in the kitchen with your mom as she gives you a quick rundown on what had been going on in the neighborhood since the last time you were there. other than your family and yeonjun’s, there was a new family at this dinner. according to your mom, they had moved in over the summer and they had a daughter your age who was going to the local university in your town. “it would be nice to have another friend in the neighborhood.” she says, prompting you to talk to her.
rolling your eyes at your mom, you move over to where the girl was with her little brother in the living room. before you could get to her, the front door opens and yeonjun and his mother step into the house. your mom rushes to greet her old friend, as if they didn’t see each other just the other day. you greet her too before escaping to the bathroom under the guise of freshening up before dinner actually begins. you had made plans to avoid yeonjun by any means necessary.
by the time you return downstairs and dinner actually starts, you realize once again that fate (or your mom) had other plans for you. when you get to the table, you see that the only empty seat at the table was between yeonjun and the girl your mother so desperately wanted you to be friends with.
this is just perfect.
you try not to make eye contact with him as you engage in small talk with the girl beside you. you find out that she’s a freshman at the local university and she’s majoring in english literature. you tell her about your major and your classes.
“what about you?” she speaks over you, to ask yeonjun. “do you also go to the same school?”
you turn to face him for the first time that evening. “yeah, i do.” he answers, coolly.
“are the two of you studying the same thing?”
“no.” you answer quickly, trying to keep him out of this conversation.
“i can speak for myself.” his tone shifts when he talks to you. “i’m doing a double major in music business and dance,” he replies to her.
“whatever,” you scoff.
“is there a problem, y/n?” he asks you, snarkily. the girl beside you turned away to play with the food on her plate. it seemed to her that she might have pulled a little too hard on a sensitive trigger.
“oh, you’re talking to me now?” you parrot the words he said to you that night outside his bathroom. the last time you saw him.
“i never said that i wasn’t taking you.”
“then what exactly did you say?” even though the two of you are not having the loudest conversation at the table, you are sure that the other people at the table can feel the tension rising.
“i said that i didn’t know if we could be friends the same as before.”
“so stop trying to act like everything is fine.” you say a little too loudly. the other conversations at the table stop.
“i’m not–” yeonjun begins but someone clears their throat and you both look up to see your mothers glaring at the two of you.
“maybe you two should have this conversation on your own time?” his mother suggests. you feel him shrink in his seat beside you, quietly apologizing.
Tumblr media
after dinner, your mom drags you into your childhood bedroom. your room was adorned with discount furniture, an old bookcase you took from your grandparent’s house in high school, and lots of fairy lights.
“i don’t know what’s going on with you but your behavior tonight is completely unacceptable.” your mother scolds you. you are sitting on the edge of the bed and she is standing across from you with her hands on her hips.
“my behavior?” you respond.
“you’re being rude to your friend and the rest of my guests, arguing at the dinner table, embarrassing yourself. what is wrong with you?”
“i wasn’t arguing with anyone.” you mutter, rolling your eyes.
“so what exactly was going on then?”
“god, mom! this is like the last thing i want to talk about right now.”
“suit yourself.” she gives you one more look. “but i need you to calm down before you come back out there.” and with that she walks out of the room. you flop on the bed and groan.
how did everything turn to shit? you are so engrossed in your thoughts that you didn’t even notice that yeonjun walked into the room until he spoke. “can we talk?”
you quickly sit up on the bed, adjusting your dress, and looking at him before scoffing. “you want to talk now?”
“why are you being weird?” he is leaning against the door frame, not knowing whether or not he was welcome to walk in.
“i’m not being weird.”
“why didn’t you come home this summer?”
you look him in the eyes for what felt like five minutes. “why are you pretending like nothing happened between us?”
he takes your response as an invitation to enter your room. he moves to sit on the bed next to you. “i know that i was really mean to you the last time we saw each other but i don’t hate you and i don’t want you to hate me.” you scoff. “what?”
“i don’t think i could hate you even if i tried.” you reply, quietly. the two of you fall into a silence. you took in your room and the man sitting beside you. you two had spent many nights in this room, but tonight you both felt out of place. the fairy lights that surrounded your bed and windows highlight how aged he looks. the once comfortable silence between you two was now a gap, a liminal space. not quite what it used to be before, but not quite awkward.
“i’m–”
“i think–”
you both begin talking at the same time but stop. “you can go first,” you concede.
“i’m sorry for that night at my party.” he begins, not making eye contact with you while you are eyeing him intently. “i think i was more embarrassed than angry and i shouldn’t have talked to you like that.”
“i’m sorry too. for showing up unannounced.”
“what were you going to say?” he quickly changes the subject, feeling that the silence was threatening to return.
“i was saying, i think you were right.”
“right about what?”
“about us not being able to be friends again.”
“i didn’t say that exactly.” he reminds you.
“yeah, whatever, i know.” you roll your eyes. “but i’ve been thinking about it a lot – our friendship. and i don’t think we were ever really friends.”
“what do you mean?”
“i mean our moms are friends and they kind of shoved us together. i feel like we never got to know each other outside of growing up together.” you feel blood rush to your face when you notice how attentively he is listening to you, taking in all your words. you look down at your hands, like a child being scolded by their parents. “i guess i don’t want to go back to what our friendship was. i want to get to know you as you are now. i also had a massive crush on you.”
“wait, had? like past tense?” he jokes.
“yeah, past tense.” you lightly punch his shoulder. “i think when we moved for college, i was really insecure about our friendship, because we had no true bond, you know? i think i convinced myself that i had a crush on you, when in reality, i just knew you were slipping away from me.”
“or maybe you were swept away by my good looks and charming personality?”
“actually, i think it was the former.”
“i mean it’s just a possibility.”
“now i’m definitely sure it was the former.” you smile, thinking about how you were falling back into your old banter.
“okay, ouch.” the silence came again, but this time it was comfortable – something you hadn’t felt in a long time. “i wish you told me sooner.” he says after a while.
“why does it matter?”
“i would have never let us get to this point if i knew how you felt before. i felt us drifting apart and after you left i was really embarrassed. it was easier to blame you and push you away. i really miss you and i want us to be friends.” you look into his eyes and you can tell that he was being genuine; not just saying what you wanted to hear. “truly friends; not just childhood friends.”
"i want that too."

Christmas Time: Yandere Buddy Daddies x Teen Delinquent Reader
Tumblr media
The sight of snow behind the luxury condo’s window still felt odd to you
 Even with the fluffy insulating blanket around your body it still felt…weird
You didn’t look at the orange and flower embroidered blanket rustling next to you
With a yawn, Miri poked her head out to look for you
“(Y/n)? W-where oh, there you are.”
She scooched up to you
Shoving her way past your arms and into the comfort of your blanket, cozying up to your body
“You always up so early… it's like you’re trying to leave me out.”
“I’d never Miri.”
She hummed clutching at your matching pajamas
You didn’t bother looking away from the snow sighing to yourself
“Is this your first time seeing snow?”
It was Re–Papa Rei who somehow quietly slotted himself next to you
His hair was pulled back and he was wearing a nice suit with little tears
“Another...bad interview?”
“...Yeah…” He forgot that’s what they’ve been telling you two
“So first time?”
“...No, just the first time I’m inside for it.”
You could feel him looking at you
“I heard…I know…the snow’s really different when you’re not surviving against it.”
You looked at him, listlessly worried for you
Before turning your attention back to the window
“Alright, everyone! Are special cozy Christmas brunch is ready!”
Miri sluggishly perked up still wobbly with the effects of early morning/night gift giving
Thanks to circumstance Papa Kazuki had to be really roundabout when bringing Miri home
So all three of you spent the night napping irregularly and driving around
Only returning past midnight and forced to open presents early due to Miri’s demand Republic dictatorship
You didn’t mind it, getting more things you’d never imagine yourself holding in three lifetimes
And receiving kisses and hugs from everyone for gifts you don’t remember wrapping
It felt strange
With Miri slowly waking up her and Kazuki’s shouts of a feast almost underway
Beckoning you and Rei to join
With one more look at you, he went stripping off his work attire
It was Papa Kazuki who came to you
Standing in front of you to block the window
“You too grumpy pants! Come on up you go!”
He made the motions with his hand before he went to grab you
Picking you up with ease as he made his way to the dinner table
you thought he’d put you down once you got there but he carries you still
Stopping before your designated chair
“Uhm Papa-Kazuki?”
“Yes, bug?”
“Can you put me down?”
“Hmmm?”
The blonde-brunette pretended to think
To which you rolled your eyes
Giving a reluctant kiss to his cheek
He finally let you down
“Awww you’re so well-behaved. Merry Christmas (Y/n)!”
“Mewwy Cwistmas!”
“Miri take your time and chew your food!”
“Omkay.”
“...Happy Christmas (Y/n).”
You sighed looking down at your plate full of all your favorites
Then back at your…family
“Thanks, guys, uh Merry Christmas?”

Conrad Fisher x Eldest Conklin Sibling Reader
Blurb | Chapter 1 | Chapter 2
~~~~~~~~~~
The first day always went the same. Unpack, swim, shower, nap, dinner. Sometimes the first bonfire of the season was the first day we got there, other times it was the next day. This year it was the first. So today’s order was, unpack, swim, shower, nap, dinner, get ready, party.
We all gathered around the table for dinner in our usual spots. My Mom, Belly, and me on one side,  Steven and Jere across from us, then Conrad on the end next to me, and Sussanah on the end next to my Mom. The spots never changed over the years, unless we had guests to squeeze in somewhere. The other thing that never changed was the food. Susannah was an amazing cook. She had taught me to cook over the years. I had spent many hours by her side being her ‘little sous chef’ as she called me. This summer she told me she would show me her old college food recipe hacks.
I picked my head up from my plate when I heard Jeremiah’s voice, “So Y/n/n when do you leave for school? Do they have the swim team go early?”
I nodded, quickly swallowing my food so I could answer, “Yeah I have to go early, It's not too bad though only 2 weeks before the regular move-in date. I leave on August 5th.”
Susannah spoke next, “We’re so proud of you, our little fish.” Everyone chuckled at the nickname, ‘little fish’. Susannah had been calling me that for years.
“So what about you man when do you leave for training camp?” Steven asked Conrad, only he wasn’t the one who answered. Jeremiah did.
“He uh quit football.” Silenced stretched over the table. He what? I stared at him in disbelief, but in my heart, a part of me felt relieved for him. Being a student athlete isn’t easy and I knew Conrad only did football for his father. Sure he still loved the sport, but not enough.
“What you quit? Why man, I would’ve killed to play college ball?” Steven asked Conrad but again he didn't respond, his mother answered this time.
“He can always change his mind.” That made Conrad speak up, getting defensive towards his mother in a way I didn't usually see from him.
“I’m not gonna change my mind, I was just gonna sit on the bench all season anyway.” I sat quietly. I didn’t know what to say. Conrad and I bonded over our athleticism over the years, it felt weird to think we didn’t share that similarity anymore.
I hadn't realized I was staring at him until he looked back at me, our eyes locked and yet I still couldn't move. You'd think it'd be instinct to look away but as he came into focus, we just stared. I tried my best to read him to understand why he might do that, Why would he quit? I knew he didn't love it but he had gone this far with it, What made him change his mind?
There was something unreadable in his expression I didn't think it was regret or nostalgia or sadness or anger but instead some combination of all of it. I wondered why. He looked away first turning his attention to his plate as he picked at the food in front of him. I didn't push him on it, I wasn't sure I'd push him on it later either. I’m sure he had a reason, maybe it’d be best if I just let him tell me if he wanted.
The rest of dinner continued on like normal on the first night. Catching up, making jokes, and just being happy to be in each other's presence again. Everyone went their separate ways to get ready for the bonfire, and Belly and the moms stayed downstairs preparing for their movie night. Their tradition started a few years ago when Belly was 11, almost 12. That was the first year we went to a bonfire, Conrad and I were 14, and Jeremiah and Steven were 13. The bonfires were different then, we were with the younger crowd still unmixed from the older kids.  It was in the backyard of the house owned by a kid Jeremiah and Conrad knew from sailing camp. Belly was so upset she couldn't come with us. She was too young and we didn't want to have to watch out for her the whole night, or entertain her for that matter. I love my sister and she's gotten a lot better over the years but she loves attention, even though she won't admit it. Having her come meant that I would have to keep her by my side the whole night, that I couldn't mingle with new kids and make new friends. The moms promised to hang out with her that night. They went to the drugstore in town and bought a bunch of candy. Susannah made brownies and they watched a movie, a PG-13 movie which Belly thought was awesome at the time.
I didn't do too much to get ready for the bonfire, it wasn't anything new, but I still like to look a little bit nice. It was the first time I was seeing everybody for the season after all. My hair was down, air-dried from the shower I took earlier so it had a natural wave to it. A little concealer under my eyes, some mascara, tinted lip balm, and that was that. I put on a tank top and some jean shorts with my navy Cousins Beach sweatshirt on top. It tended to get a little bit chilly on the beach at night. I looked at myself in the mirror, my eyes catching on the shimmer coming from my ears. My pearl earrings, Susannah's pearl earrings. She gave them to me for my 16th birthday just like her mother did and I've treasured them every day since.
I had to shoo the thought away as I felt myself getting choked up. I exited my room and went down the stairs, slipping on my very worn-in black Converse by the door.  I heard stories of people in college having a designated pair of shoes they called their ‘frat shoes’. This pair of black Converse was that for me over the summer.  They had been covered in sand, soaked from water, and scuffed with dirt, more times than I could count.
As I finished tying my last lace, the boys walked down the stairs. I sat up, shoes now tied, and patted my knees, “You guys ready to go?”
“Yep let's do this we're taking my car. Y/N you promised to be DD for the night right? Don’t worry though I won’t drink too much anyway, wouldn't want to be hungover for my first day of duty, right Y/ N?” Jeremiah answered.
I laughed, “No Jere, you definitely shouldn't be hungover. Wouldn't look good for me either after I vouched for you to get this job. But yes I’ll be DD.” He laughed with me throwing his arm over my shoulder as we walked to the car. Steven called shotgun which left me and Conrad to sit together in the back. I hated to admit it to myself but he looked good. How someone could pull off a gray hoodie that well I didn't know, but he pulled off a gray hoodie and jeans better than I'd seen ever before.
The drive was silent in terms of conversation but in the front seat, Jeremiah and Steven were singing their hearts out to Steven's ‘pregame’ playlist off Spotify. I kept my gaze out the window. Partly because I was still taking in the beauty of Cousins, partly because I could look at him. He looked too good and I always had to distance myself from Conrad before parties. I never knew how they’d play out with him. Sometimes he’d just stick close to us, the crew, and have a super fun night hanging out. Usually, that’s what he did when I was at the party with the guys but I’d been told the stories of his playboy party actions when I wasn’t there, and last summer I had gotten a glimpse of it. A girl named Nicole had come up to him and started chatting with him. Within seconds she was quite touchy-feely. Her hand was on his chest or upper arm, even playing with his hair every once in a while. I had whispered into Jere’s ear who was between me and the horny fest, “Who’s that?”
Jere took a quick glance over his shoulder and then whispered back, “Nicole, she and Conrad hook up every once in a while.”
I furrowed my brows, “I’ve literally never seen her before.”
“They met at a party last summer when you had left for swim camp, I think her family like only comes out for August.”
I swallowed the information and then excused myself to get a drink. I stole a beer from the kid's fridge and walked back feeling a little bit better now that I had a drink in my hand. But when I looked up to find Nicole on her tiptoes kissing Conrad against the wall, the power of the drink in my hand ceased. I turned back to the kitchen, leaning against the counter by myself for a few minutes. I had my focus down on my hands when I suddenly looked up at the sound of the refrigerator doors flying open. It was her. She was seemingly grabbing a beer from the fridge the same way I had been just a second ago. I expected her to walk back out to Connie, but instead, she stationed herself on the counter, so I took that as my sign to walk back. It was the first, and only time since I had seen Conrad's fuck-boy behavior, but the stories continued, and I never let myself feel unprepared for the chance I might see it again.
Now sitting in the car with him I did just that as I watched the houses go by. The streets are littered with beautiful bloomed hydrangeas. Suddenly, my hair was pushed behind my ear. I turned my head as his hand draped its way down from my ear to the ends of my hair. His face was soft but I could see the dimples around his smile starting to crease. I shifted in my seat, nervous with his attention on me.
“W-what are you doing?” I spoke lowly. Not that it mattered, Jere and Steven had no chance of hearing over our screaming.
“You’re hiding.” It wasn’t a question, it was a statement. And it left me speechless. “Your hair is always so soft, you’d think after years of chlorine that wouldn’t be the case.”
That eased the tension a little, as the corner of my mouth turned up. “Well, that's because I wear one of those swim caps.”
He laughed, “I’d pay to have a picture of that.”
I laughed with him, “Don’t say that to my mom 'cause she’d easily take your money for an exchange.”
“Let's go!” Jeremiah shouted, exiting the car along with my brother. I hadn't realized we had stopped.
I looked over my shoulder to see Conrad hadn’t moved. His eyes looked at me like he was observing my soul. I held my breath. As if not breathing would help ease the bubbles floating around in my chest.
I couldn’t bear it.
With an awkward laugh, I scooted out of the car and jogged over to Jere and Steven. I didn’t want to walk down alone. I knew the boys wouldn’t stay by my side the whole night, they’d go do other things within the first hour, but I liked to hold onto them for as long as I could. I didn’t mind the girls I’d met with the guys here over the years, but we were never that close. Nicole, Dara, Gigi, Marisa, and Shayla, we’d all lose contact over the school year. I also knew some people who weren’t from that crew. Some of them I knew from the swim club I used to do at the Country Club when I was little under the Fisher’s name. I wasn’t exactly supposed to be in the club seeing as I wasn’t truly a member but Susannah had a way of getting people to do what she wanted. Kindness can be blinding. The club was mostly made up of little boys, there were only 3 of us girls, Sydney, Ally, and me. Sydney was a nice girl. She was super smart, and ambitous, she’s set to start at Princeton for business in the Fall. Ally, I remained better friends with as we grew up. She was a dedicated swimmer like me so we even ran into each other sometimes during the school year at competitions. Ally was a total sweetheart, but she liked to have fun. She was easy to hang out with, she understood. I hoped they were here, I had forgotten to text them when I got to Cousins.
The fire wasn’t too crazy, they had to be careful not to draw too much attention from the cops. A big crowd of people had already formed though and it was only 9:30. I grabbed a cola from the cooler as I said hello to everyone coming up to us. Chit-chat was made with numerous people, and I couldn’t help but feel these conversations were really competitions for these kids. It was like every comment had to be a one-up to the one previous.
It was around 10:30 when a hand plopped down on my shoulder abruptly.  I assumed it was one of the guys but then he came into my eyeline, Peter Millington.
“Yooo Y/N what's good?” He said a little slurred. As he moved to stand in front of me his hand dropped from my shoulder.
“Hey Peter,” I laughed. Peter was a good guy, he was flirty but it was harmless. Annoying, but harmless. I met him at the swim club when we were 10.
“So miss big shot where you heading this fall?  I’m sure schools across the country were practically begging outside your front door!”
I laughed, “I won’t deny that, but I’m actually not going far. I’m gonna be going to Harvard.” His mouth hung open.
“No shit.”
“Yes, shit. How about you, still swimming?”
He shook his head, “Nah nah, I’m trying to be a sports agent, I’ll be going to Penn State.”
“That’s great, congrats.” I smiled at him.
He pointed at me a big smirk spreading across his face, “Yeah so you better remember me when you go all famous.” He finished his statement by slightly hitting the side of my arm.
“You got it Pete, I won’t forget you-”
“Belly what the fuck!” My head snapped and my jaw dropped. I took off over to them. I sort of abandoned Pete but eh, he’ll be fine.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Steven yelled.
I smacked his shoulder once I had run up to them. “Stop yelling! You’re making a scene!” I whisper-shouted at him.
Then I turned my attention to my baby sister. My baby sister, who wasn’t supposed to be here. My baby sister, who was just talking to a man 5 years older than her. My baby sister, who chose to wear a tiny skin-tight pink mini dress. My clueless, trouble-causing, baby sister.
“What are you doing here?” I asked her as calmly as I could.
“What I can’t go to a party?” She bit back defensively.
Excuse me? She didn’t get to give me shit for being concerned when she's the one who showed up out of the blue. I scoffed, “Did I say that?”
“What are you even wearing Belly we are on the beach why would you-“
“Steven. Knock it off. Go hang out with Shayla.” This was getting too aggravating. Steven was instigating too much, he must have already pissed Belly off by the time I ran up and now I had to deal with it.
“Did Taylor tell you to wear that or something?” I asked Belly, trying my best to figure out what was going on without having to have an argument in the middle of a party.
“Why can’t I just dress nicely without being questioned?” Why the hell was she being so defensive?
 “Again did I say that?” I couldn’t hold back the bite to my tone.
She rolled her eyes before looking at me. But then her gaze sharply caught something over my shoulder. I turned to look. Jeremiah. Drunk off his ass. Standing next to the fire trying to strip and go skinny dipping. He had already stripped off his sweatshirt, shirt, shoes, and socks.
“Great.” I scoffed, running over to my now 2nd problem of the night.
When he saw me running over he smiled brightly, “Y/N! We are going swimming come on! OH MY GOSH Belly! You’re here! You come too!”
Belly laughed beside me and I would’ve thrown a dirty look her way if I had the energy to spare.
“No. No one is going swimming. It’s pitch black, the rip currents are crazy, and you are wasted. That’s all recipe for disaster.” I said authoritatively.
Jeremiah pouted. “Please?”
“No. Now put your clothes on.”
“Booooo.” Was he serious? He swayed as he re-dressed, his shirt blocking his vision. Good god.
“And get rid of the drink Jere, You’ve had enough.”
“Ughhh fine party pooper.” Before I could stop him he threw his drink into the fire.
“Jere-” The fire grew, a blaze lighting the beach. Shouts were heard as other drunk idiots followed Jeremiah’s lead and fueled the fire. “I can’t with this, Jere hang out with Belly.”
He smiled at that, “Alright come here belly button sit with me by the fire.” She giggled and obliged.
I took a deep breath, my feet taking me to the shoreline without even thinking. I needed to calm down. The chaos was overwhelming. I sat down on the sand a few feet away from where the water reached. The breeze flowed against me and I felt my mind begin to ease. This. This is why I always loved Cousins. I will never feel as at peace as I do when I’m next to the ocean. Water just calmed me down. I was the little fish.
I hoped that would never change. I hoped I would always be the little fish, no matter how big or how small the pond. No matter what happened down the line, the peace I felt by the water would never be disturbed. I’d always be, as Susannah so deemed me, a little fish.
I felt a plop next to me in the sand. I knew who it was without even looking, I could simply feel his energy. It was Conrad. He looked out on the water as he placed whatever drink he had in his hand down next to him. I kept my gaze out on the water as well. It felt good to just sit with somebody. With him.
“So you go around telling everybody you’re going to Harvard?” He said, slight humor in his tone.
I sighed, “I mean only when anyone asked.”
“No shouting from the rooftops?”
“No shouting from the rooftops. I’m not a big bragger.” I snickered, and so did he.
“You? Please! You have always been humble but you never shied away from sharing your accomplishments. You should be proud of yourself, it’s a big deal.” I just shrugged in response.
“I’m proud of you.” I looked at him then. His eyes were full of sincerity. I don’t think he knew how much that meant to hear. I caught his eyes flicking to my lips.
Wait what-
He was looking at my lips and when he looked back up his eyes shone with vulnerability. I couldn’t help myself when my eyes dipped down to look at his. I imagined what it’d be like to kiss him. His soft pillowy lips moving against my own. I wondered where he’d put his hands. He seemed like the type of guy to cup the back of your head. I’d feel the weight of his hand as he pulled me into him like he was desperate for our connection. Maybe one hand would fall to my hips or my thigh, acting like an anchor.
I couldn’t let my mind wander too far. Lord knows where that would lead. When our eyes met the tension was unmistakable. I couldn’t. I couldn’t let myself fall into him. I’d never stand back up.
“Stella? Alright, thanks man!”
Spell broken. Peter had just snatched Conrad’s beer from its spot between us and was taking a big slug of it.
“Pete what the hell?” I said, standing up from my seat on the sand.
“Dude give me my beer back.” Conrad stood up as well, Pete was standing between us.
“Whaaaat? You weren’t even drinking it man! It was just- you know just sitting there and all the- all the other Stella’s are gone.” He was plastered. I felt my chest sink. This isn’t gonna go well.
“I don’t give a fuck if there aren’t any left, that one is mine now give it back to me.” Conrad defended.
“Connie come on-”
“It’s just a beer man.” Pete turned to face primarily towards Conrad.
“Exactly, so give me my beer back and get yourself your own.”
“No.”
“Pete come on you definitely don’t need another drink.” I approached him, going to put my hand down on his shoulder to try and calm him down. Then just as I did he rolled back his elbow saying,
“Oh fuck off.”
I fell to the ground. His elbow collided right with my ear and the side of my face. Well, that hurt like a bitch. I’ll have a black eye on my first day back to work. Awesome.
“Y/N-“
I kept my eyes clenched shut for a minute before I felt a hand come to my shoulder, it was Belly and Jeremiah helping me up. My ears rang for a minutes before clearing. I watched as Steven and Jere broke up the fight.
Conrad looked at me as Steven pulled him back. I shook my head and looked away. Actually, I looked right at the flashing blue and red lights now coming from the top of the dunes. Cops, awesome.
“Enough!” I snapped everyone out of it, “Let’s go! Come on!”
I grabbed Belly’s hand as we ran up to the car, glancing over my shoulder quickly to make sure the boys were behind us.
“Jere keys!” I caught the keys as he tossed them to me, unlocking the car doors. “In! Now!”
I started the car, a scowl on my face. My head felt like it was vibrating but it wasn’t like any of them could drive with their intoxication level. I couldn’t believe them. How on earth did they think it was appropriate to act like this?  I kept my eyes on the road, but I was sure they could feel the anger radiating off of me.
“Y/N look I-“ Steven started but I cut him off.
“I don’t wanna hear it.”
Then Jeremiah came in, “We didn’t mean to-“
“I said I don’t wanna hear it! Unless you want me to hit a drunk teenager stumbling home, you’ll shut up and listen to me! I’m distracted enough by the pinging in my head.”
They were silent after that.
I was mad and I had plenty of reason to be. I had been in this position with my sibling plenty of times, a few with Jeremiah, but never Conrad. I knew he started fights occasionally, but never with me around.
I pulled into the driveway and parked the car. Then I child-locked in all those mother fuckers. I unblocked my seatbelt and positioned myself to be able to see them all. Steven and Jere struggled to open the doors while Belly sat in the middle confused. To my surprise Conrad just sat in his seat, his focus down in his lap, he made no objections. Once the three backseat idiots figured it out they looked to me expectantly.
I raised my brows, “What you thought just cause I didn’t want you distracting me while driving you were gonna be off the hook?”
“Y/N what do you even care? You’re not our mom.” Belly said, rolling her eyes.
She only fueled my anger, “Yeah no shit I’m not 'cause Mom wouldn’t have put up with even an ounce of the crap you guys pulled tonight. Do you think I like playing mommy? Do you think I wouldn’t have rathered to enjoy the first night of my summer stress-free? You are lucky I’m a good sister, 'cause I could so easily walk inside and tell Mom everything that went down tonight. Then maybe you’d realize that having you deal with me instead of mom, is me being nice.”  I watched my sibling's attitudes deflate. Jeremiah on the other hand was sitting there trying and failing to hide the smirk from his face. “What’s so funny Jeremiah? Do you think I’m not talking to you too right now? All of you put me in bad positions tonight because of how you acted. ”
Jeremiah chimed in again, “We weren’t that bad.”
My jaw dropped, “Not that bad? Let’s see who should I start with. How about you Jeremiah, I stopped you from getting naked in front of every teenager in cousins, potentially drowning and killing yourself, and even after I did that you acted like an idiot! Throwing alcohol into the fire, you’re probably the reason the cops came! Oh and just the cherry on top, the fact that you’re wasted after promising me you wouldn’t be.” He was quiet now.
“Steven had to cause a whole scene, but I’m not even that mad at him because he was right to be questioning you Bells! How the hell did you even get there?”
She peeked up sheepishly, “I walked.”
“You walked? Belly do the Moms even know you came to the bonfire?”
“No, I snuck out.”  She spoke in a quiet tone.
“Jesus Bells! If you had just told me you wanted to come I would’ve vouched for you. For god sake, I would’ve given you a ride!” My head pounded. I rubbed my forehead trying to ease the pain, I needed some advil. “You guys can’t act like that. It’s dangerous, and quite frankly embarrassing. I’m just- I’m done dealing with it.” I took a breath and unlocked the doors, “Go inside guys. Go to sleep.” I sat forward with my head in my hands. I heard the doors open and close as they got out without a word.
Except he didn’t. I didn’t look over at him. I honestly didn’t know what to say to him. I didn’t know how I felt at the moment.
“Are you ok? Is your head alright?” He had worry in his voice and I couldn’t help but feel a flutter in my heart.
“I have a headache and I’ll probably wake up to a huge bruise on my cheek but I’m fine.”
“How come you’re not mad at me too?”
“I didn’t say I wasn’t mad at you.” I felt his eyes on me the whole time but mine stayed forward at the house.
“You didn’t yell at me like everyone else.”
“Because I didn’t know what to say to you not because I’m not mad at you.”
A beat passed. Just us sitting in the car before he spoke up again, “I’m so sorry you got hurt, Pete was plastered-“
“You could’ve just let him have the beer.”
“Y/N I wasn’t going to-“
“Look it’s been a long night, just- just go to bed Con.” I grabbed the keys and left the car. I hadn’t looked at him once and I didn’t look back at him.  I couldn’t. I don’t even think I was truly mad at him, I mean it was Pete’s fault, not his. I was more overwhelmed with tonight’s events and I didn’t have the energy to unpack anything right now. My head was pounding and I needed to lay down. Work would be a nightmare tomorrow morning.
I went straight into the shower when I got inside. I gave myself a quick rinse. Susannah always stoked our bathroom with luxurious bath products for me and Belly. But I know Steven liked it too.
I walked into my room and plopped right down onto my bed. Man, it was soft, and it only seemed softer after a hard night.
I went to grab my phone when I saw it. A water bottle, advil, an ice pack, and a cookie, sitting on my bedside table, and I most certainly didn’t put it there. I knew who did. I knew it was him, and I could feel myself smile a little. I felt myself forgive him, he was hard to stay mad at. He wouldn’t mention it, I probably wouldn’t either, but we knew that we knew. That was enough.
For now.
through a different lens — l.sm
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
❥ pairing: lee seokmin x gn!reader ❥ theme: meet cute, strangers to something ❥ wc: ~3.4k ❥ warnings: fluff, language barrier, mentions of alcohol, author is obviously down bad, author also obviously doesn't live in london (let them live) ❥ a/n: this was supposed to be for valentine's day but kind of turned into a bigger project than i anticipated so it's for seokmin's birthday as well! i really like this one so please let me know what you think!! likes and reblogs appreciated
This wasn’t your scene. Oh God this was not your scene. Your friends always want to go clubbing on Friday nights, and being a good friend you always gave in. However, right about now, when the music was vibrating your skull, being anywhere else sounded amazing.
“y/n!” the voice of your friend pierced through the noise and brought you back from inside your head, “come take a shot!” she smiled at you. Reluctantly you joined your friends, all drunker than you. Someone shoved the small glass into your hand and you threw it back easily and quickly. The liquid burned all the way down into your stomach, you felt your cheeks flush with heat.
Eyes wandering toward the exit of the crowded bar, the thought crossed your mind to leave. Looking back toward your friends they were once again engaged in their own conversations, paying little attention to you. They all expect you to slip out early without telling anyone, you always do.
Cool air bloomed in your lungs and you felt like you could breathe for the first time tonight. The street in front of you was not particularly crowded, the walk home will probably be easy and refreshing. Taking another deep breath of fresh air you began in the direction of your flat. The city used to excite you, but these days you’d rather be home with some tea and a good book. You really wished you had stayed home tonight.
“Excuse me?” you heard a timid voice cut the silence. You suppressed a groan, you hadn’t even been walking for five minutes. Turning toward the source of the voice you were met with the confused face of a man, “Do you know…a place to eat?” he asked, accompanying the question with an eating motion with his hand.
“Uh yeah, there’s a great place down the street a ways and around the corner, if you go past Pennie’s you’ve gone way too far,” looking back at the man you could see the concentration on his face as he tried to remember your directions. Feeling bold from the remaining alcohol in your system you took a step closer to him, “I’ll show you, I could go for a bite too” He smiled at you then, the biggest smile you’ve ever seen, even in the darkness of the street you swear his teeth were shining.
“Thank you” he finally said with a bow of his head, breaking your trance and setting your feet in motion. The two of you walked side by side, your arms folded around you, and him clutching his camera. The walk was silent, aside from the man asking to stop to snap pictures a few times. It was odd though, the silence was never once uncomfortable for you, and he made no indication that it was for him either.
Every so often you glanced up at him, getting a better look at him now that the street was more well lit. You noticed his strong nose first, the way the light settled on his face made him look ethereal. Judging by his amazement for a shitty London street, you knew he was a tourist. Looking back at your feet you smiled to yourself, it was nice to see someone so excited about something you see every day.
“This is it!” you smile at him as the two of you approach the restaurant. He nods at you, seemingly waiting for you to enter. He trails behind you as you enter the building and inform the staff that you’ll be needing a table for two. Once you were seated you broke the tension, “So…where are you from?” you asked hesitantly.
“I am from Korea” he spoke slowly, but you saw his eyes light up at your question. Speaking of his eyes, sitting across the table from him you now saw them fully, a warm brown that compliments his tanned skin nicely. There are crinkles at the corners of his eyes, indicating that smile he flashed at you in the street was a normal part of his communication.
“That’s far,” you remarked, taking a sip of your water, “what brings you here?”
“Mmm” he thought for a moment, “holiday” he answered simply. You nodded as he looked around the restaurant, “my name is Seokmin” his eyes found yours again.
“My name is y/n” you exchanged with a small smile. Something about the kindness in his eyes made you squirm under his gaze. When the waiter came around to your table you once again decided to be bold, ordering fish and chips for Seokmin and yourself. If he came all the way from Korea you felt it was your duty to show him London’s best classics. Was it jumping too far to feel like he had met you in the street for a reason?
“Two beers, please” Seokmin’s voice pulled you from your thoughts once again. He was smiling up at the waiter holding up two fingers. The waiter nodded and headed toward the kitchen.
“Good call” you smiled at him, hoping to get a better look at his face when he smiles in return. Just your luck, he turned to you beaming. His eyes do crinkle when he smiles.
The food came quickly, not that you would have minded if it took a little longer than usual. Seokmin has a way of making you feel at ease, even in a social situation that would typically make you incredibly nervous. He did his best keeping up with conversation, you felt terrible about not being able to communicate in his native language.
Seokmin stared down at his plate, his eyes widening at the amount of food. “Try it, try it” you nearly squealed. You did not even dare to pick up your fork until you knew he liked the food. Your eyes followed the movement of his hand as his delicate fingers picked his fork up from the table. He lifted the bite of fish to his lips and popped it in his mouth. Immediately, he let out a satisfied sound.
“This is good!” he smiled after he swallowed. You smiled back at him and cut the fish with your fork as well. At some point in the meal, you were completely enthralled in Seokmin. The way he moved interested you even and even though you didn’t know nearly anything about him, somehow you knew you had never met anyone like him.
Something then made him laugh under his breath. Putting your glass down you gave him a questioning look. Trying not to smile, he gestured with his finger around his mouth. At this, your hand flew to your lips and you flushed with embarrassment as you felt the foam from your beer on your upper lip.
You could hear him nearly choking on his laugh and your eyes lifted again to meet his. Immediately, he tried to avert his glance, but you could tell he was still stifling his giggles. You felt your cheeks heat up again, and butterflies settle in your stomach. You couldn’t help but notice how handsome he looked in that moment. Pulling out your phone and positioning it so he was in your view finder you remarked,
“You should see how silly you look trying to hold back your teasing,” his eyes crinkled again at this, butterflies erupted in your stomach, and he threw up a peace sign, inviting you to take the picture. “Look!” you exclaimed, turning your phone so he could see the picture. Seokmin was laughing now, throwing his head back and clapping, the whole thing. You were lucky that in his excitement, he missed the fond look you gave him without even realizing.
“Do you know your way back to where you’re staying?” you asked earnestly once the two of you had paid and were outside the restaurant. He nodded at you and turned his phone, much like you did earlier, so you could see that he had the address and walking directions pulled up. “Good, now,” you pulled your phone out, “give me your number, I don’t want you getting lost”
***
Your life continued as normal the next day. Waking up, thankful you didn’t drink much the night before, you slipped out of bed toward the kitchen. Clicking on the kettle you think about the night before. Meeting Seokmin almost felt like it was a dream, but you have a photo on your phone to prove it wasn’t. He had also insisted that you send the picture you took, so you do have at least one thread of text conversation.
You reached for a mug, wishing you were taller, and heard your phone buzz on the counter. Assuming it was one of your friends texting you asking where you disappeared to last night, you continued to make your tea. Then your phone buzzed two more times, none of your friends would be that desperate to talk to you. Once your tea bag was securely in your mug you grabbed your phone.
Seokmin (fish n chips guy): y/n
Seokmin (fish n chips guy): the bus
Seokmin (fish n chips guy): ?????
Your heart skipped a beat realizing he actually texted you. Then, you began laughing realizing what he was asking.
You: do you need help?
Seokmin (fish n chips guy): yes
Seokmin (fish n chips guy): please
Seokmin (fish n chips guy) sent their location
Oh. Oh. He wanted to meet up again, you nearly spat out your tea seeing the notifications pop in. Checking his location you saw that he is at a bus stop a twenty minute walk away from you. You scrambled to get ready and ran out the door.
You saw him immediately when you rounded the corner to the stop. He was looking through his pictures on his camera, fully engrossed in his task. He looked up as you approached and moved toward you.
“y/n” he breathed
“How may I help” you smiled, giving a dramatic bow. He moved toward you, pulling out his phone. Standing at your side he showed his phone screen, with a bus route pulled up. “oh, easy” you looked up at him, trying not to blush at the sudden closeness, “I take that bus all the time”
You paid Seokmin’s bus fare, it’s the least you could do after he paid for the dinner you invited yourself to last night. Seokmin dragged you by the sleeve to the back of the bus, which is a place you would normally avoid but seeing how excited he was, you didn’t mind.
As the bus began to move Seokmin watched out the window, the city zooming by. You watched him watch the window. He looked cute when he was focused. The thick black framed glasses perched on his nose reflected the scenery. Without thinking you pulled out your phone, snapping a picture of him just like last night. Seokmin must have seen you out of the corner of his eye because he turned toward you.
He raised his camera and watched you through the viewfinder for several moments. You covered your face with your hands in a futile attempt to hide your blushing cheeks. You heard the shutter click a few times and then silence. Removing your hands you look up at him to find he is looking right back at you. Seemingly he became flustered and turned back towards the window.
You realized halfway through the trip, you weren’t actually sure where you two were going. Sure, you took this route all the time, but you didn’t know where Seokmin wanted to go. The only indication you had that it was time to get off the bus was Seokmin standing up suddenly. It was a stop you never get off at, but you follow him out and onto the street.
He grabbed his phone and pulled you closer to him by your sleeve. You felt your stomach swoop at the sudden breaking of the flimsy wall between you. Trying to not read too far into his action you glanced at his phone. He had pulled up the walking directions to a nearby thrift shop.
The walk was not too long, and the two of you passed the time easily. Every so often Seokmin would point something out and tell you the Korean word for it, which in turn you would give him the English word.  His eyes were trained on you so attentively when you spoke it made you almost nervous.
Rounding the corner you saw the store he was hoping to visit. You may have been here once or twice, but it’s nowhere you frequent. He pulled the door open and held it for you. You smiled at him as a thanks, which earned you a blinding smile in return. Lucky you.
The two of you strayed away from each other, looking in different sections for a while. You swiped through the selection of shirts in your size, trying not to look around for Seokmin. The fabric in your hands didn’t feel real, you were distracted. You moved around to the rack of pants, which was closer to the set of stairs in the store which led to the music section upstairs.
You continued to browse through the pants, not really interested. Movement near the stairs made you look up,  Seokmin was looking at the records hanging on the wall. He investigated them on his own for several moments, fully engrossed, before looking around for something, you hoped it was you he was looking for. As if he could read your mind his eyes settled on you from across the room, smiling, he called
“Jagiya!” As soon as the word rolled off his tongue, his eyes widened and his hand flew to his mouth. He obviously was under the impression he said something he shouldn’t have, if only you knew what it meant, “y/n” he corrected himself after taking a moment to calm down. You left the rack of pants behind almost immediately,
“Hmm?” you hummed once you were at his side on the stairs. Sleeves of your jackets brushing against each other. Seokmin pointed at the records on the wall, he was obviously excited. “Music lover, hm?” you smiled up at him.
“Yes” he smiled back, eyes almost closed, “I’m a singer” he added. Seokmin wished you could see your face right now, you looked amazed at the confession, your lips forming a little ‘o’.
“You’ll have to sing for me sometime” you said before remembering you had no idea how long you would be around each other. However, he just beamed and nodded at you. The two of you wandered around the music store upstairs for a while, Seokmin taking a particular interest in the selection of The Beatles vinyls.
Watching him closely, you noted the ring he wore, the delicate way he moved through the records. Seokmin was so interesting to you, everything he did seemed to be with purpose, but he also seemed carefree at times. Again, you wished so desperately to be able to communicate with him easier.
Eventually, you made it out of the store. The sun bit through the cold of the air and warmed your face. Closing your eyes you moved to face the sun and took a deep breath. You stayed here for several moments before hearing the click of Seokmin’s shutter again. Your eyes snapped open and toward him, his camera still raised, he watched you through the viewfinder again.
“Hey!” you laughed, “Stop that”
“You look happy” he replied simply, lowering his camera, looking at you fondly. There was nothing to do about the blush blooming across your cheeks, and you did nothing to hide it this time. He walked toward you and gestured down the street, “shall we walk?” he suggested.
The walk was quiet, but again, comfortable. Seokmin switched what hand he was carrying his camera in, letting the hand closest to you drop to his side. Periodically, his knuckles brushed against yours, giving you the feeling of electricity running up your arm every time. The tension crackled between the two of you until Seokmin stopped in front of a restaurant, “Hungry?” he looked at you, tilting his head to the side, a gesture that reminded you so much of a puppy it was insane.
“So hungry,” you agreed. Soon enough the two of you were seated at a booth that felt more like a couch. Comfortable silence fell between you as you looked over the menu, you eyed him a few times before he put his menu down.
After your orders were placed Seokmin brought out his camera and began to look through his photos. Every so often he would tilt the screen so you could see, most of the shots he showed you were of you. Suddenly, his phone began to buzz incessantly. You watched as his eyebrows knit together in confusion and he picked up his phone to check it.
“Ah” he sighed, and placed his phone face down back on the table, “My friend Soonyoung….” his eyes drifted around the restaurant, he was thinking of what to say next, “jagiya—“ he laughed and clutched the white knit beanie that sat on his head, “my English”
“Talk to me in Korean,” you shrugged nonchalantly, “I won’t understand, but I’ll listen” you assured him. His eyes lit up, and he immediately began talking animatedly. You were amazed at the change in him once he was speaking comfortably. Watching him attentively you took in the way his hands accompanied his enthusiasm.
You could tell, Seokmin was a person who was just full of love. Anyone lucky enough to be on the receiving end of that love was someone you were jealous of. You would do anything to sit in his light for as long as he would allow you.
***
“My last day” Seokmin’s voice still laced with sleep mumbled through your phone. You don’t know what possessed him to call you this morning but you would never complain.
“Today?” you asked, feeling a bit nervous, “do you have plans?”
“Mhmm” he hummed, “Join me later?” you could feel your heart jump up into your throat at the question.
“Of course” you mumbled trying to steady your voice.
Seokmin (fish n chips guy) sent a location
The sun setting overhead cast the street in watercolors of pinks and blues. Your eyes scanned through the throng of people all here to watch the sunset over the river. He caught your attention almost instantly, he was facing away from the river, arms propped up on the stone barrier, eyes closed enjoying the night air.
As you approached you watched as the breeze caught his bangs and ruffled them. Before making your presence known you snapped a picture of him looking so serene.
“Hey” you ventured, now right in front of him. His eyes cracked open, taking in your frame. Almost instantly his face was overtaken with a smile.
“Hi” he replied. You moved to stand next to him, facing the river and he turned to look out with you. Both of you stood in quiet contemplation for several minutes.
“You know,” you broke through the tension, “I haven’t been here in so long.” your eyes trained on the clock face of Big Ben across the water, “Somehow, you’ve reminded me of all the parts of my city I love” Seokmin shifted to face you,
“I love the city,” you met his eyes, it felt as though he was trying to tell you something.
“You leave tomorrow” you turned toward him, “is it weird if I say I’ll miss you?” Seokmin shook his head as the wind picked up. Once more, the breeze caught both of your hair. Seokmin moved to brush yours aside, searching your eyes to make sure you weren’t uncomfortable. You were glued to your spot, you wouldn’t dare move. Finally you felt his slender fingers in your hair, tucking it behind your ear.
You felt your breath hitch in your lungs as Seokmin’s fingers trailed down and he cupped your cheek with his hand. Absentmindedly, you melted into his touch.
“I leave tomorrow” he sighed as he echoed your previous statement. His other hand found your other cheek and his thumb brushed against it softly. The both of you stood frozen for a moment, neither of you wanting to break the spell.
Suddenly, Seokmin was leaning down toward you, and you felt his soft lips brush yours. The kiss was quick, but full of meaning. It seemed like he was communicating all the things he had wanted to say over the last few days that he couldn’t find the words for.
77-"are you even listening?" "sorry sweetheart, you were distracting me."
y/n slammed the door behind her, taking off her shoes and dropping her bag. She angrily stomped to the kitchen, already unbuttoning her shirt.
"princess? you're home early" Florian said from the kitchen. She muttered some incoherent words which he didn't understand.
"uh what did you say?" he asked awkwardly.
"I just had the worse day of my life" she mumbled breathing out deeply
She sat down on the one of the stools and covered her face with her hands. Florian gazed at his tired girlfriend with a mix of concern and worry in his eyes. His hand reached out to remove hers from her face, giving her a gentle smile.
"how about you go take a shower and relax while I make you some food to eat. you can tell me all about your bad day yeah?" he suggested, rubbing his thumb against her knuckles.
y/n smiled softly at Florian as she leans into his embrace, feeling his warmth and love surrounding her. He wrapped his arms tightly around her shoulders while she hugged his torso, breathing in his comforting scent. He pressed a small kiss on her forehead before she left to shower, already feeling that her day is getting better
As y/n was taking her hot shower, Florian started working on y/n's favorite pasta. He made the sauce and cooked the chicken while the pasta boiled in water.
By the time he finished serving their plates, y/n came out of the shower, her hair wet and face bare from any make up. Florian always loved to admire her face without make up, because it just seems to be glowing, especially after a shower.
y/n and Florian sat on the stools in the kitchen, eating their food in silence until Florian spoke up.
"so tell me, what made your day that bad?" he asked, dropping his fork and looking at his girlfriend. y/n let out a sigh, dropping her fork as well.
"well first of all I was having a bad hair AND make up day which basically means I looked like shit all day-" she was interrupted by Florian
"I think you looked cute" he said with a small smile making her smile too
"thank you- but that's not the point. I arrived late to class because of the fucking traffic and the professor made me sit in the back of the hall with all the shit students that talk all the time, so I didn't hear anything. during the break, I went to get my coffee but ended up spilling half of it on my..." her voice started fading as it became just a background noise when Florian started admiring her.
His gaze softened as he looked at her, his expression filled with admiration and warmth as he took in her natural, bare face after her shower. The worry lines on his forehead disappeared, replaced by a gentle smile that reflected his mesmerized state by her presence.
"are you even listening?" y/n said, a bit disappointed that he wasn't fully with her
"sorry sweetheart, you were distracting me." he said shamelessly, his smile still on his face, making her blush but look away.
She rolled her eyes with a smile but slapped his shoulder gently.
"shut up. I have no make up on" she said, turning back to her plate
"you don't need any. you have a natural glow when you have no make up on" he said, the soft smile never leaving his face as he still admired her face
"oh shut up and continue eating" she shook her head with a smile.
He laughed slightly, telling her to continue her yapping session even if he didn't hear most of it
Tumblr media
Befriending an FBI agent didn’t seem like a plausible next step when I decided to take a job as a barista. Maybe it was fate. Maybe it was luck, though whether it was good or bad was hard to decipher.
It started out good.
We sat across from one another after my shift was over. I wouldn’t tell him that hanging out at my job after I was done wasn’t my number one choice purely for the fact that he smiled soft and sweet when he asked. We needed to talk anyways.
“I don’t know if it’s a good idea, to be honest,” he mentioned, a shy smile on his face.
“Why is that, do you think?” I questioned.
“I have… A past. There’s been so much that’s happened to myself and my family. I have a demanding job. Dating, even the concept of it, has been hard since—“
He stopped, a soft sigh leaving his lips as he looked down at the drink in his hands. I could tell something heavy was weighing on him, and it hurt to see him looking so down. Granted, we hadn’t known one another for long, but he’d become a close friend. I knew some of his tells, at least.
He looked back up at me, finding nothing but sincerity when he saw me looking back at him.
“My wife, uh, she,” he paused, clearing his throat. “She didn’t just… pass away. She was killed. It was by someone my team was hunting down, and it was hard. I haven’t been looking to date since then.”
I nodded. “I understand, and I don’t want to pressure you. But, if you decide that you do feel ready, I’ll be here.”
He smiled, taking one of my hands from across the table. I swallowed down butterflies, trying to ignore the softened look on his face when he watched me.
“You deserve better. You should be with someone less busy. Younger.”
“I don’t mind a busy working schedule, and everyone has baggage. If you don’t want this, that’s okay. But I do,” I confessed, noting the blush on his cheeks as I spoke. “It’s all about communication, isn’t it? Making sure that if things are hard or messy or frustrating that you talk it out?”
“Yeah,” he nodded. “Yeah, you’re right. I just—“
“Hey,” I shook my head. “Don’t worry about it. Again, if you change your mind, I’ll be here.”
He let out a breath. “Thank you.”
I watched him for a while in the silence. He still had that cute frown on his face.
“I think the problem now is that I don’t want to wait,” he said at last.
I smiled back at him, taking his hand as he pulled me out of the little cafe.
Things started out so well. He’d give me a shy smile every time he showed up at my door to take me out somewhere. He’d call each time he was able to on cases. His sweet demeanor and hidden soft heart stole me over.
It was an easy ‘yes’ when he asked me to move in.
It was easy being with him for so long. But things always change. Sometimes for the worse.
A kiss hello and goodnight became the only times I’d feel his lips on mine. He’d work on what he needed to, sure to tell me any time I asked about what he was doing that I wouldn’t understand it.
I’d stand around, waiting for a drop of attention like a kicked dog. It never mattered. Conversations always turned into short arguments shut down by his cool, even-toned voice telling me I was overreacting. Who was I to think that I knew anything?
“You’re throwing a tantrum,” he huffed, annoyed.
I paused, staring at him in confusion. He stared back at me blankly. Of course he couldn’t be bothered to show any kind of emotion outside of a snap in his voice.
“Excuse me?”
“I don’t have time for this,” he said, shaking his head.
He continued packing his thing to head to the bureau, and I once again stood alone, watching him. A mere inconvenience in his morning routine.
“If this is all in my head, just tell me,” I said quickly. “But it feels like you’re intentionally ignoring me. Like I’m some kind of child to you.”
He stared at me for a moment, his face indecipherable.
“That’s ridiculous.”
“That’s not an answer.”
“You didn’t ask me a question. If you want to know something, all you have to do is ask.”
He left after that, leaving me speechless in the living room, staring at the door of the apartment. I busied myself all day, trying not to think about it. Days when I was at work while he was felt fine enough. Not good, but fine.
Days when I was alone while he was out working though… I felt like a kid waiting for a parent to return.
I was in the kitchen with a glass of wine when he finally got home. He silently walked around the space. I’m sure he took off his jacket. Undid his tie. Set down his things and locked up the gun. Usual routine that I had no part in and probably never would.
He finally walked into the kitchen behind me, not bothering to say a word as he got a glass of water. Of course, I’d be the first to speak up.
“Are we going to talk about today?”
I turned, finally looking at him. He sipped at the glass of water, simply raising his brows in question. I furrowed mine in response, sick of him trying to shove away any semblance of communication.
“What about it?” he asked.
“What about it? We were kind of in the middle of talking when you left.”
“And we finished it.”
“No, we didn’t.”
He sighed hard. Quiet again. Brooding and stoic Aaron Hotchner. Never having time for anyone’s bullshit.
I wouldn’t have guessed my feelings were more shit on the pile to him. Guess I should’ve known better.
I looked at the plates that remained in the drying rack. Pretty and clean. I’d spent all afternoon doing the dishes, making sure they’d sparkle. If I couldn’t catch his eye anymore, maybe if he saw his own reflection in the plates, he’d realize I did something for him. It might remind him I was still here. In fact, the silverware was even cleaned and polished until they absolutely gleamed. I could probably blind myself with a spoon if I angled it from the sun just right. And I’d do it if he asked me to. Just to see him smile at me as I blinked back at him, trying to see correctly again. Three hours I’d spent on such a small task. Three hours while he sat in his office. I didn’t even know what he did in there, but I knew he’d been finished with what he actually needed to do for the day. I hoped that he might at least come home to see if I was still in the apartment. Would he even miss me if I had decided to leave? I didn’t know. I knew I could at least make him miss having clean dishes.
I moved swiftly, reaching for one of the plates. I held it in my hands, letting the weight of it weigh me down a little. I noticed how the kitchen light bounced off of the surface. Then, I looked at him.
He still had that stupid frown on his face.
Usually a moment like this would require that the person holding the glass wasn’t thinking straight. An accidental drop, leading to scary, sharp edges of glass all over the floor. Shock. Maybe embarrassment. A jump backwards. I did none of the above when I tossed down the plate onto the kitchen tile. It hit the ground with force, sending shards all across the floor in between us. The pieces shone up at his bewildered face as a taunt. They sparkled in my direction like a gleam of light in playful eyes that were daring me to do it again. And it was fucking cathartic.
I took another, ignoring the call of my name trying to stop me, and slammed it on the ground right on top of the remains of the first.
“Stop,” he said, voice raising just below a full yell.
I smiled to myself, holding the third of four in my hands. I couldn’t stop staring at the wreckage I’d already caused, but I let my eyes wandered in his direction.
“You want a tantrum?” I asked, holding the third plate just above my head. “I’ll give you a tantrum. What was it that you said to me? Uh… Oh! Right: ‘all you had to do was ask’.”
I let the plate drop, debris flying all around my feet, thought none of it was sharp enough to do harm. Maybe that was a part of the fun. The plates were thick and heavy. They weren’t made to break. But when they did, it was loud and hard and didn’t hurt me one bit. In any sense of the word.
As I reached for the final plate in the rack, he started circling to get behind me. He grabbed my arm, trying to stop me from letting it hit the floor. He turned me towards him.
“Stop. You’re acting like a child.”
I merely nodded. “That’s the problem, isn’t it? Fuck off, Aaron.”
I whipped my hand hard enough to send the final plate flying. I wrenched myself from his grip after I heard the satisfying crash, stalking past him and out of the kitchen.
He stomped off after me, catching me as I started putting a few things in my bag in the bedroom.
“What are you doing?”
I laughed humorlessly. “Right. Like you care.”
“I do.”
“No, you don’t.”
Silence again.
“You’re everything to me, Aaron,” I said, staring straight back at him. “You were everything and your feelings were everything and what am I to you? Huh?”
“You’re my girlfriend.”
“And that’s it? Just a commodity. Someone who sits all nice and quiet when you get home so that you don’t feel completely alone. Someone who’ll light the candles and wash the dishes and try over and over again to love you. All for nothing.”
“That’s not fair.”
“It’s more than fair.”
“You’re acting so—“ he stopped himself, voice raising again.
“So what, Aaron? Immature?”
“That’s not—“
“Sorry, I totally forgot about the age difference. It’s not like you remind me every single time we get into any kind of argument,” I argued back, venom in my voice. “You’re so much older and wiser. You must always know better.”
He scoffed. I stayed for a moment, still squared up emotionally. I finally went back to packing a few things when I realized he wasn’t responding to me. He watched quietly as I went, fists balled up at his sides, almost convincing me that he actually cared.
He called my name again, this time much more quietly. I ignored him, zipping up my bag and slinging it over my shoulder. He said it again, a little louder.
“What?” I snapped.
“Where are you going?”
I shook my head. “I don’t know. Maybe my sister’s place.”
He sighed. “Are you coming home?”
I paused, looking at him as I stood in the doorway. He dropped his shoulders, finally letting his guard down.
“I don’t know. What happens if I don’t? If I were to pick up and leave and never look back?” I asked, steeling my face again. “I don’t think it’d make much of a difference to you.”
“Yes, it would.”
“Then figure out if you really want me in your life. Then I’ll give you an answer. Until then, I’m done giving everything to you all for me to turn up completely drained.”
“I love you,” he said, trying to convince himself just as much as he tried convincing me.
I nodded, heading for the door. I was done trying to convince myself I didn’t need him. I didn’t need empty words anymore. I had the truth: I found it in a neatly packed bag and a pile of broken dishes on the kitchen floor.
Rumination
Ruminate
(v.) to think about something deeply
After Edward left her, Bella Swan fell apart. Desperate to try and save his eldest daughter, Charlie brings his youngest daughter to Forks to see if she can bring her sister out of her depression.
Now, y/n must try to help her sister find her way back to the light while also trying to navigate her Junior year of high school in the odd town of Forks.
Chapter Three: Revelation
Now playing: Trouble by Cage the Elephant
Warnings: cursing, mentions of murder (James, Laurent, reader’s dreams), mentions of vomiting, mentions of death (Laurent, reader’s dreams)
I convinced Charlie to let me stay home from school today. I had things to do, and school would only keep me from them. Besides, we weren’t doing anything important.
Picking up my phone, I dialed Quil’s number and waited.
“Hello?” His voice crackled into life on the other end of the phone, and I felt relieved.
“Hey, Quil, it’s y/n. Sorry to call you so early, I didn’t know when your school started.” I told him, wondering if I woke him up or not. “Is there a way you could get out of school today? I’ll come pick you up, but I need to talk to you. It’s important.”
“Uh, yeah, I think I can get out of school? Just-uh, gimme a sec.” He said, and I heard him set the phone down. His voice, distorted by the distance from the receiver, sounded as he spoke to who I assumed was his mother.
He came back after a moment, picking up the phone again and telling me, “Told Mom that I threw up. Come get me at ten, she leaves for work at nine thirty.”
Relieved, I smile.
“Thank you, Quil. I’ll see you soon.”
“See you, y/n.”
With that, I hung up the phone and went back to sleep.
---
“I made some lunch and stuff for us, I was thinking we would go to La Push to talk.” I said as Quil opened the door to my truck.
“Sounds good. Do you want to talk there only or..?” He looked at me, waiting for my response. I sighed.
“I’d rather talk there, but I’ll tell you what this all is about.” I said, pulling out of his driveway and trying to order my thoughts.
Deciding on how to say everything, I started to speak.
“Bella said that Embry had distanced himself from you and Jacob at the end of January. I told Jake that I had seen him hanging out with Sam and his group. Now, Jake’s flaking on Bella and I, and Bella thinks he’s doing what Embry did. I just wanted to fact check with you and see if you knew anything.”
Quil was silent for a moment, then nodded.
“Yeah, okay. Let’s wait to talk until we’re at the beach.
---
La Push was beautiful as always, the chilly air offset by the warm sun. I set down the large blanket I had brought and put the cooler down on top.
Quil and I sat in silence for a moment as he slowly ate one of the sandwiches I had brought. I sipped on some water as I tried to decide what to say.
Swallowing the last of his sandwich, Quil looked at me and started talking.
“At the end of January, Embry started ditching us for Sam and his gang. Before that, he was pissy and irritated at everything. I thought he was stressed with school stuff, ’cus that’s how he gets when he’s stressed, but it was more than that. He started running fever and went through some rushed second puberty. Jake thought Sam had him on steroids or something.”
I nodded, “When I saw him at Roy’s, he was taller than Jacob was all of a sudden, his voice was deeper, and he’d gotten bulked up all of a sudden. I caught his arm and it felt like he was on fire.”
Quil nodded, sighing.
“Yeah. Now Jake’s doing the same shit. He’s ditching me and Bella, Billy says he’s never home at night, and he’s gone through that fuck-ass second puberty shit. He’s like 6’3 now and sounds like a grown ass man! His voice is deeper than his dad’s is!” As he spoke, Quil was messing with the hem of his shirt. He twisted it around his fingers and stretched it between them, picking at loose threads and scrunching the fabric.
“He’s never home at night?” I asked, my mind putting things in place.
“Yeah, Billy says he’s never home at night and when he is, he’s sick as a dog.” Quil looked up at me, his brows drawing together, “Y/n, why’s that important?”
“At Roy’s, I only ever see Sam and his group there in the early hours of the day, and they always look exhausted. All of them look like they haven’t been to sleep, and Sam has mentioned that they work at night.”
Perhaps they are in a gang, or a cult, and the reason no one can pin anything on them is because they work at night.
Quil was silent for a long moment before he looked back up at me, his eyes glassy with shed tears.
“Oh, Quil,” I said, reaching out to pull him towards me in a hug. He held me tightly, his face pressed into my shoulder and his hands gripping at my jacket.
“Whatever’s happening, I—” he cut himself off with a shuddering breath, and my chest ached for him. With the arm around his shoulders, I squeezed him tightly, and with my other, I ran my hand up and down his back how I did for Bella.
“I don’t want to be next, y/n.” He said, his voice heavy.
It killed me to see him so distraught when he has only ever been playful and cheery. Now more than ever, I was determined to figure out what was happening. For Bella’s sake and for Quil’s. I didn’t want them to get hurt.
---
“Bella!” I call as I get back to the house. When no one answers, I run up the stairs and knock on her door. I hear a groan from the bathroom and turn, my brows drawing together.
“Bells? You know in there?” I ask, reaching for the handle. When I open the door, my sister is slumped in the bathtub with the trashcan beside her. She looked horrible, her face flushed and eyes bloodshot, and she was sweating despite wearing only a thin tank top and shorts in the porcelain bathtub.
I crouched beside her, pressing my hand to her cheeks and sighing.
“I’m going to get you some water and some crackers, okay? I’ll call Charlie and tell him to get some meds from the pharmacy.”
Bella only nods weakly, and I hurry downstairs so get her ice, water, and some Tums. I call Charlie as I go back up, telling him about Bella’s current condition. He agrees to come home early and get some medicine for her.
“Take the Tums first, okay? I’m gonna put the ice on your face.” Bella nods at my instructions, flinching as I put the ice pack on her forehead.
Charlie comes home after I get Bella back into her room, and I tell him about her condition.
He sighs, “Probably got it from that Newton kid when they went out to the movies together, Billy said that Jacob’s been feeling bad lately, too.”
Deciding that it wouldn’t be suspicious if I pried, I ask, “Really? What’re his symptoms?”
Charlie shrugs, “Fever, mostly. Billy said no vomiting, but his temperature’s higher than it’s ever been and it won’t break. Told him to take him in to the doctor, but Billy said it’ll pass soon enough.”
I him sympathetically, “Quil said something like that’s been going around the community. Said that it started with Sam and his group, and is spreading outward.”
I wait for Charlie to react in any way, to see if he knows anything. He doesn’t. Instead, he just sighs and walks up the stairs to check on Bella. I sigh, reaching out for the land line and dialing Jacob’s home number.
The phone rings for a good minute before Billy picks up.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Billy, it’s y/n,” I say, “I heard Jake wasn’t feeling good, is he okay? Bella just got real sick today, so i wanted to check in.”
Billy hesitates a moment before replying, and I know that he knows something’s up.
“Hey, kid. Yeah, Jacob got sick a few days ago. Says he probably got it from Bella’s friend at the theatre.” Billy’s voice sounds normal enough, but he hesitates a second too long between some of his words and I know he’s lying. Jacob does the same thing.
“Probably, the flu’s been going around our school,” I say, trying to sound sympathetic. “Hey, I’ll bring him some soup tonight. Might make him feel better, right?”
“No,” Billy says hurriedly, “You don’t gotta do all that, he’s been having trouble keeping stuff down anyway and—”
“It’s no big deal,” I tell him, “I’ll drink some food over for you both so you don’t have to worry about making anything or ordering it in.”
“Y/n.” Billy says, his voice stern. I blink, knowing that I’m too close to whatever they’re hiding for comfort.
“Stay at your home. Jacob needs as few people around him right now as possible, and I’d hate for you to get hurt or— or sick.” He tries to cover his slip up, but I catch it. Anger rises in my chest for a moment, fire flickering up my throat and I speak before I can stop myself.
“So he’s too sick to see the people who care about him, but not too sick to go out every night with Sam Uley and his gang?” I demand, my anger as sharp as it is misdirected. I sigh, adding, “Whatever, Billy. I’ll talk to you later. Hope Jake feels better.”
Before he can respond, I hand up the phone and set it down. I go upstairs and shower, getting ready for my shift at Roy’s.
---
Bella felt better after a few days. I figured whatever she had, she vomited it up or sweat it out.
Now, the two of us were out hiking. She had suggested it, since neither Embry nor Jacob would return our calls and Quil was under house arrest by his mom after she found out he faked being sick to skip school with me.
“I forget how much I love the woods, I think. Being away in the desert for so long made me forget how beautiful Forks is.” I tell my sister as we start to go through a clearing.
She hums in response, and I debate wether or not to set up camp to have a picnic here. Bella ends up agreeing to take a break to eat, and as I start to set up, she freezes and calls out to someone.
“Laurent!” Her voice is full of surprise, but there’s also a bit of happiness in it, too.
I turn around and see a man standing at the end of the clearing, staring at us. He smiles, stepping forward to come closer.
He steps into the light, and his dark skin gleams in the sunshine. My breath catches as he gets close enough that I can really see him, and I find that he has crimson eyes and ashen skin.
“Ah, your sister, I presume?” The man, Laurent, asks, and Bella nods. He speaks oddly, his accent almost Cajun but the way he pronounces things is off putting.
“I did not think that I would see you here anymore, Bella.” My sister laughs, but the gleam in Laurent’s eyes made goosebumps raise across my skin.
“I live here, so shouldn’t it be the other way around?” Bella asks, teasing, “I thought you were in Alaska now!”
“I suppose,” Laurent relents, and I take a moment to take in his clothes.
He wears large, heavy boots and black slacks. His shirt is while and ruffled at the collar, but unbuttoned enough that I his glittering chest was exposed. He must be wearing a shit ton of body shimmer, I supposed, but that doesn’t account for his eyes. No contacts are that good, right?
“I just assumed that, with the Cullens gone, you would also be away.” Laurent says to Bella, his voice innocent, but prying, “You were a sort of pet of theirs, no?”
My eye twitches at the insinuation that Edward owned my sister, and I opened my mouth to respond but was silenced by Laurent continuing.
“The Cullens,” Laurent continued, his unnerving eyes flicking to me, “Do they visit often?”
Bella froze, but recovered quickly.
“Yeah, all the time. They were here a few days ago, actually.” She said, and I could hear the awful tone of alarm in her voice.
“Were they, now?” Laurent asked, and Bella was quick to change the subject.
“How are you liking Alaska? Carlisle mentioned that you got close to, uh, Tanya?” Bella reached out, holding my hand.
“I like Tanya, I like her sister more,” He replied smoothly, “Though their rules are rigid. Sometimes I slip up.”
Bella hesitated, “Ah, we all make mistakes, right?”
She paused when Laurent just smiled, and then quickly asked, “Did Victoria ever find you..?”
“She did,” he mused, “I came here as a favor to her, actually.”
His eyes swept back to me, and I held his gaze. He was as beautiful as he was unnerving, I couldn’t look away from him.
“She wanted me to see if your Edward was still here, acting as a guard dog.” He said, his voice velvety and soft, “She wants to make sure that all the pain he caused her is repaid.”
Bella swallows, “W-What do you mean?”
Her voice trembles as she speaks, and I carefully reach my hand into my pocket and hold tightly to the small canister of pepper spray that Charlie had given to me.
Laurent smiled, taking a step forward.
“Victoria is very upset with you, Isabella Swan,” he all but purrs, “Your Edward killed her James, she wants to torture Edward the way that she has been tortured.”
“However,” He continues, slowly stalking forward as Bella drags me back, “I figured that I would do Edward a solid. Kill you myself, so that you die painlessly, quickly.”
“What the fuck,” I breathe, “What the fuck, what the fuck, Bella, what the fuck is going on.”
Laurent blinks slowly at me, surprise coloring is ashen face, “She does not know?”
“Know what?” I demand, “That Edward’s some murderer and killed some girl’s boyfriend, and now she wants to kill my sister to get back at him?”
Laurent moved faster than any human possibly could, but he freezes when something snarls at him as he gets within three feet of us.
“I don’t believe it,” he breathes, and I whip around to see a massive black shape moving in the forest.
My initial thought is that it’s a bear. The massive creature is taller on all fours than I am standing up, and its footsteps feel like they shake the earth.
The animal stalks slowly into the light, and I see that it’s not a bear, but a wolf. The monstrous beast isn’t alone, however, and two more wolves appear on each side.
Bella has gone rigid, and I find that I’m holding my breath. Laurent moves with lightning speed, grabbing me and throwing me off to the side before sprinting away. I land on my back, the wind knocked out of me.
One massive wolf, its coat a dark shade of silver, stalks out towards me. My heart beats wildly, and I freeze.
If this is how I die, at least it will be quick, I think, holding my breath as the hulking creature comes to slowly stand over me, bending down to sniff at my body.
It rears its head, and part of me waits for death.
The other part, however, feels calm. For a moment, I believe that I know this creature, that perhaps I have seen it before.
And then it leaves, stepping back and turning to race off the way Laurent and the other wolves have gone, and then Bella is sprinting over to me and grabbing me.
We race back to the truck and speed home, bursting into the house where Charlie and Harry Clearwater sit at the table.
“Dad, they aren’t bears!” Bella yells breathlessly, “They aren’t bears in the woods, they’re wolves!”
“Massive wolves, Dad, the size of a bear!” I say, “They’re like, ’roided out wolves!”
“Wait, wait,” Charlie says, standing, “What?”
We explain what we saw, what happened. We get chewed out for being in the forest, but we are promised that he would have the department look into the cracked out, steroid infused, wolf-bear-thing issue.
When Charlie goes to bed, I demand that Bella tell me what the fuck Laurent was, and what he was talking about.
She hesitates, then asks me, “Do you believe in Vampires?”
---
I stare at my sister, a mix of anger, disbelief, and confusion swirling in my chest.
“You mean to tell me that the Cullens are fucking vampires?” I ask slowly, torn between laughing and yelling.
I can see how my sister believes her words, and I know her well enough to know that she would not be so sure of a lie.
“Yes,” she confirms, “And so was Laurent. His eyes were red, so he fed on humans recently. His skin shined like diamonds, and when he threw you, his skin was ice cold and hard as stone, right?”
Slowly, I nodded.
She nodded.
“This is all bullshit,” I told her, still staring, “But… but I believe you.”
“It’s fine if you don’t, y/n. I would understand.”
I shook my head, “It’s either I believe what you’ve just said, or there’s no explanation on why Edward and his family of freaks are so damn weird.”
She huffed a laugh, and I sighed.
“I’m going to shower and go to bed. I need to sleep on everything you’ve just told me.”
---
In an attempt to regain some sense of normalcy, I threw myself into my school work and my job at Roy’s.
My insomnia came back.
Every time I slept, I dreamt of that silver wolf, and of Laurent.
Sometimes, the wolf killed Laurent in front of me. Sometimes, it would chase me down and drag me to La Push. It never hurt me, though.
Sometimes, in my dreams, the wolf would just sit and watch me from the woods right outside the house. Sometimes, in my dreams, I would sit with it and draw.
Any dreams with Laurent were bloody, brutal, and woke me up with a pain in my chest.
Sometimes, Laurent would kill me. Sometimes, he would kill Bella. Sometimes, he would kill the wolf. Always, though, his eyes were red and haunting.
---
I heard from Charlie that Bella had stormed over to his house and demanded answers from Jacob. What she got, however, were cryptic non-answers.
“I’m enlisting your help.” She announced, bursting into my room as I got ready for my shift at Roy’s.
I sighed, “About?”
“You always loved Billy’s stories, do you still remember them?”
“Yeah, vaguely,” I answered, “It’s been a while since I’ve heard them.”
“Good enough for me,” she decided, “I’m coming with you to Roy’s. I’ll work on figuring out the shit Jacob told me and I’ll see if you know anything once I get it all in order.”
I shrug, “’Kay.”
---
I had gotten Bella seated at a booth in the back, the one previously occupied by Sam and his posse. After Embry had joined them, they had stopped coming.
“You need my help yet?” I asked Bella, setting a refill of coffee down beside her.
“Jacob said that he had already told me what he was, but that I just need to remember.” She said, “The only story I remember being told was about ‘Cold Ones’, and a treaty being made to keep them off Quilute land.”
I thought for a moment, knowing that this story in particular was familiar.
“I’ll come back when I remember what I’m trying to think of.” I tell her, walking off to attend to my other guests.
It’s not until the end of my shift that I remember.
My eyes grow wide and I hastily pull Bella home, rushing to the computer and typing something in, pulling up an article.
“They’re descendants of wolves, remember?” I announce, pointing to the article I had saved so many years ago.
My sister just stared, her eyes wide.
“They were the ones who saved us from Laurent, they were the ones who’ve been terrorizing the forest!” I say, triumphant in my memory, but fearful of my discovery.
“We have to—”
“First thing in the morning.” I promised, staring at my sister. She stares back, but nods.
---
Neither of us slept well. Bella was up and down all night, and I just stared at my ceiling for the majority of the night.
When my alarm finally went off, I jumped out of bed and started to get ready. Bella was quick to follow, and we told Charlie where we were going, leaving before he could say anything.
The drive to the reservation was tense and quiet. Neither of us spoke; we already knew what we were doing and what we would say.
I parked the truck as Bella went to talk to Billy. He didn’t want to let us in at first, claiming that Jake needed his sleep, but I pushed past him and marched into Jacob’s room.
He was asleep, but the change was jarring.
For one, he had a tattoo. For another, he had gone through the same growth spurt that Embry had. His legs hung off his bed, his shoulders took up almost the entire thing, and his body was more muscular than before, as impossible as it seemed.
Bella and I looked at each other for a moment before I shook my head and walked out. As I passed him to go back to my truck, I stared at Billy. He watched me go, but I could see the lines of worry and guilt in his weathered face.
Bella came out shortly after me, and just sat on the porch for a while. Jacob came out to talk to her, and I watched from the truck, waiting. After a while, they both came over to me and got in.
“We’re going to go explain everything to the others,” Bella murmured, “About Victoria.”
“Laurent’s dead. It’s Victoria that’s been killing people in the woods, not us. We’ve been hunting her only.” I watched Jacob speak in the rear view mirror, and I sighed as I started up the truck again and started driving wherever they directed me.
being with steve but he’s still pining for nancy
wc: 1k words
(was very inspired by "opposite" by sabrina carpenter and "full machine" by gracie abrams for this one</3)
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
it was all a lie, but you were okay with that.
having him, even if it wasn’t really real, was better than not having him at all, you thought.
it was painfully obvious that you deserved better. better than late night calls practically begging you to come over but not one glance in the hallway. better than being the most tightly kept secret.
but it was hard to see how exactly wrong any of that was when you were so fucking lost in this steve harrington haze.
this haze that made you feel okay with accepting the lie you’d been continuously telling yourself— that he wasn’t still pining for her.
anyone with two eyes could see that he was still in love with her.
but, you were okay living with the lie that maybe, just maybe, he wanted only you instead.
however, of course, deep down you knew the real reason that he was with you most nights instead of her was because she didn’t want him.
“you can stay if you want.”
he always offered, but you knew he didn’t mean it, so you always said no. and you knew that you had said the right answer the first time he asked when you saw the look of relief wash over his face.
you knew that he liked you because you didn’t stay. because that meant that you knew that this wasn’t the type of arrangement where you would fall asleep in his arms. although you would’ve killed for that kind of post-sex intimacy with him.
you weren’t looking at him as you shook your head at those familiar insincere words in this moment. “no, i’m okay. i’ve got to get to school early in the morning for this project thing.”
you finished slipping your shirt over your head and shimmying back on your jeans before getting up to leave his room. he never walked you out. at this point, you were accustomed to letting yourself out of his house, and that never really minded you. although it did feel something close to a walk of shame.
you took a brief look at yourself in the mirror that hung above his dresser, noticing your disheveled hair and slightly wrinkled clothes. you were so different from her, and it wasn’t just your appearance right then that told you that.
i’ll never be her.
“what?”
you turned to steve, eyebrows furrowed in confusion at his one-word question. “what?”
“you said you’ll never be her. never be who?”
you hadn’t realized that you said those words aloud and you felt your face warm harshly in embarrassment.
“i think the answer to that question is pretty obvious,” you found yourself saying instead of making up some excuse about how he must’ve misheard you.
“i don’t want you to be nancy.”
well, who do you want me to be? who do i need to be for you to love me as much as you love her?
you didn’t let either of those questions fall from your lips. even though you were dying to know the answers, you knew exactly how desperate and sad they would make you sound.
“okay,” you said instead and then headed toward his bedroom door. “bye.”
you closed it behind you just like you always did. not planning to see him again until tomorrow night, knowing that you’d probably be ignored when school rolled around.
however, moments before you opened the front door to leave, you heard steve’s footsteps pad down the stairs and you turned to look at him, eyebrows furrowed.
“did i forget something?”
he was still only in his boxers but now a t-shirt was tossed on as well as he came close to you.
“no, it’s just, uh,” he kissed you instead of saying anything more, which startled you because he never did that outside of the context of sex. before you could even fully process the fact that his lips were on yours, feeling so foreign because of the set of circumstances this was all happening in, they were gone.
you looked up at him. “what was that for?”
he shrugged and his sudden shyness in this moment, when he was the one that just had kissed you, severely confused you. “just goodnight and get home safe.”
your head was still so dazed, mind completely jumbled, but you found yourself nodding at his words. “thanks.”
you simply looked at him for a few moments, searching his eyes for something, although you were unsure exactly what. but, it was way too hard to read his expression, and with a small shake of your head, you turned away to finally begin heading to your car.
“wait.”
once again, your eyes traveled back to him. “yeah?”
“also, um, i like you,” he told you. “that’s why i don’t want you to be nancy, or anyone else for that matter.”
hearing those words should’ve warmed your insides, finally made you realize that the lies you had been telling yourself actually weren’t lies at all. however, instead, they hurt you.
you shook your head at him and swallowed the lump that now sat heavy in your throat. “no, you don’t.”
he was about to say something else, but you continued before he could.
“you just like the fact that i pretend that you do actually like me. you like that i show up here pretty much every night to help you “forget” about her.”
it felt slightly like an out-of-body experience. you saying the words that needed to finally be said, words that you didn’t even know were buried deep inside of you and how true they were, until they were finally tumbling out.
steve winced at your words, being hit hard by the brutal honesty laced so deeply in them.
“i’m sorry.”
this thing you two had was broken now, and you knew it couldn’t be fixed. the unspoken truths were finally out and couldn’t be stuffed back into the box they came out of.
and maybe, at least for your sake, that was a good thing.
(My heart is,) squeeze it apart, it’s fine.
✎ Synopsis ! The clan could sense Ao’nung’s brooding figure from a mile away, more hostile than ever. What more could he handle once he figures out you’re already spoken for?
Content & warning ¡ Ao'nung x Reader! They are both idiots in love. Second part to (Uh-oh! I think you're holding the heart of mine!)
Tumblr media
“You have been out more recently,” The voice of your mother startled you, making you immediately stop dead on your tracks with a groan. You had not expected her to be home so early, especially that the day was just about to set. You sharply turned to her, shoulders tense, and tight-lipped. For a second, you felt younger– remembering the nights you stood the same after being caught red-handed for sneaking out and returning home late, but it was different this time and you know it.
“Eywa had blessed me lavishly,” You presented her your woven satchel full of banana, yovo, and a handful of other fruits. There wasn’t much meat, however, but you’ve caught enough that could last for days. You let it sit outside to clean later on, “Father won’t have to hunt for a few weeks.”
“Ao’nung had visited,” She eyed you knowingly, trying to put two and two together. “Again.”
You rolled your eyes and dropped your satchel from your sore shoulder. You were desperately trying to avoid him and while you have been successful in doing so, you could never escape your prying mother. Weeks had passed since Ao’nung apologized back at your safe place and you haven’t looked back since. You fled– feeling the weight of his words burn like acid rapidly spiraling out your stomach instead of the relief you’ve been yearning all these years.
Let me grow old with you and I promise to be wiser.
The way your face grimaced after, retracting from his touch so hurriedly was another punch to the gut.
Don’t go there, Ao’nung. You don’t know what you’re saying.
He said it so sincerely– so heart-wrenching that you would have given yourself right there and then, but you knew better than to quell his sorry conscience. You fled, leaving him with his bare heart in his hand with nothing but the whistling wind to accompany him. Only then did he realize how lonely it was to be there without you to fill in the spaces; how this sanctuary was just any other place without your presence. He left hours later.
The olo’eyktan’s son was still hopeful, despite the many blisters on his already red fingers and the sharp slaps from his sister– who knew weaving was this difficult? Tsireya was an unforgiving mentor, immediately scolding him for every wrong pattern and shaming him of his poor choice of color and beads. She was keen on helping him work on his apology; it would have been a big fat lie if she said he didn’t improve tremendously. (she’s pertaining to his development as a whole, not his weaving skills. he sucks ass, but he’s trying!)
He delivered the various handcrafted accessories himself as well as the tops and loincloths he made, hoping that you’d answer him personally– but he was always greeted by his mother and her sorry smile. She’s out hunting. I have not seen her since this morning. She left to train. Ao’nung would immediately slump his shoulders, bidding her goodbye with a frown gracing his features.
“You tire the poor boy,”
“And I am worn out myself, mother.” You argued.
“Then at least tell him,” She gave you a stern look, “If it’s not him, it’s Ts’ute.” The people were no stranger to gossip; their eyes could tell even the smallest of changes amongst the clan and they’re quick to spread it like wildfire, so it was no surprise either that you and the olo’eyktan’s son were the subject of everyone’s whispers. The usual shadow that trailed behind Ao’nung like a second tail was nowhere to be found anymore and he grew more hostile and impatient– it didn’t take long for everyone to take two and two together.
You weren’t just known for your obvious fondness towards Ao’nung– you were top of your class; strong-hearted and skillful, you’d be the talk amongst the men your age. The moment people got the memo, they were quick to advance– to knock on your door with their hearts to offer and your mother did not turn a blind eye to any of it, Ts’ute included. He was a fearless hunter himself and loved by many.
“Why must you determine my heart?”
“Because you cannot speak of what it desires most. You’re holding yourself back and you know it very well.”
You couldn’t think of any more reply because you knew damn well she was right, so you headed right for the exit. On your way out, you were face to face with an eager Ts’ute. His ears lifted in surprise and you fought back the groan that threatened to leave your mouth. You gave him a tight-lipped smile, slightly nodding to acknowledge his presence. “Ma __, I come bearing fruits from our hunt.”
You walked past him, hands tightly gripping the satchel that bore a few fruits you wished to give Tsireya. “And have you forgotten I was a part of that very hunt, Ts’ute? I’ve brought enough for my family, share it with others instead.”
He hurriedly ran beside you, “Then allow me to walk with you, please.”
You let him join you, eyes scanning the place for your friend while you walked. You could feel him stealing glances, admiring the way your forehead would slowly crease or how you bit your bottom lip when you were deep in thought. “You are meaner to yourself than he ever was, have you realized that? You still seek for him” Ts’ute suddenly said, head turning to look at him.
You sighed, already knowing where this conversation would lead. “It is not my intention. You cannot just undo years of me pining over him, it’s not easy to just– unlearn something you have terribly lived for all your life.” your head hung low in shame as you rambled. It was wrong for you to vent about another man to your suitor, but you couldn’t help but pour your frustrations out on him.
“Believe me, I know.” He grabbed your wrist to stop you from walking any farther. His hand caressed your cheek and as much as you tried to appreciate the warmth of his calloused palm, it was foreign and distant. He wasn’t him and you resented the fact that you still did seek for him. You felt extremely guilty with the way he looked at you; still full of anticipation– of hope and you hate to be the one to crush it completely.  “Tell me you want this, __, or you’ll never hear from me ever again.”
You thought about it. You really did. Ts’ute was an absolute catch, the clan’s golden boy. You’d be happy with him and you know it, but the thought lingered on the back of your mind— Ao’nung. Oh great mother, even if he was nowhere to be seen, he was still able to become a pain in your ass. You appreciated Ts’ute, truly, but the olo’eyktan’s son was a different kind of stubborn that you couldn’t just shake off.
You loved him— adored him to no end and while you hated him for it, Eywa makes no mistakes. With a solemn sigh, you could only give him an apologetic look, borderline embarrassed. “I’m sorry, Ts’ute.” You took his hand that caressed your face, “You deserve a love that could reciprocate, but I believe I have been spoken for all my life.”
He retracted his hand from your hold, much to his dismay, and only nodded his head in defeat. “Tsireya is just near the shore. You should find her there.”
He left you there completely unmoving. Unbeknownst to you, the same gaze lingered from a far, watching the scene unfold. Ao’nung’s grasp tightened around the necklace he had just finished and knew there and then that he was a lost man already and he was the only one to blame. He couldn’t bear how his heart sank, but he also couldn’t walk away, almost like it anchored his entirety down.
He left an hour later, necklace buried somewhere on the sand and his heart near it.
You had not heard of Ao’nung for weeks and it confused you terribly– no sight of him nor any news. It was like he vanished from your eyes, never to be seen again. The gifts stopped coming as well and although you never properly acknowledged it, you kept one of his hand-crafted bracelets around your wrist. It felt right to have something of his near. You hoped for another chance to rekindle inside, even just a tiny speck of light that could encourage you to keep holding onto the already seeping warmth of fondness– to tell you that turning Ts’ute down was a good thing and you had not just doomed your romance forever.
And right now, you felt ridiculed– on top of that, alone. You were back at your safe place after all the time you’ve neglected it, peacefully washing your hair and removing the braids and beads. You hummed while you got rid of all the little shells and situated them between the rocks, not noticing the approaching figure behind.
“Congratulations,” You visibly flinched, immediately turning your head to the devil itself. Ao’nung sat on the edge, slightly swinging his feet on the water.
“Congratulations? What are you doing here– where have you been?” You couldn’t help the questions. This very man was gone only to reappear with a congratulations. You were out of your mind, even going as far as saying that his presence was only a hallucination from all the days you kept wishing for him.
“I have heard.” His vague responses were only drilling further your curiosity and it did not help the growing frustration that slowly spiraled from your stomach.
“I do not know what you mean, Ao’nung.”
“You’ve chosen,” his lips would close tightly and his shoulders would slump from every sharp short breath he took. It was an impulsive decision for him to march here, to finally have the guts to face you. He couldn’t run from it anymore– he had to face the consequences of his own stupidity. “And I wish you happiness, really. I really, really, really do,”
“Ao’nung–”
“I hope you get everything your heart has ever yearned for and I hope to never hear a thing about it,” His voice was shaky, words tumbling over one another. Ao’nung had lowered his body down the water to come near you and you moved not even one bit. You took in the raw emotions written all over his face; the desperation in his tone, his vulnerable stance– he came bare and absolutely miserable. “It’s selfish of me, __, truly selfish of me, but I will never be satisfied.”
“Ao’nung, please let me talk.”
“My title, everything– I would have let it be damned. I would have gladly stepped down to take your hand instead.”
You exhaled deeply and frustratedly reached up to cup his face, finally closing the gap between you and Ao’nung. For a moment, he was too stunned to respond, breath hitching and heart entirely warm to the core– the kiss spoke of all the things left unsaid. He held your nape to deepen the kiss and  it was like a dam had burst inside you. Your lips were soft and he was a starved man– you were everything he had terribly craved for and he wanted nothing more than to feel every inch of you against him. You could feel your heart pounding against his chest and you knew that his was racing just as quickly.
He was wrong– so wrong. To push you away, to embarrass you, everything. It didn’t matter if it took him forever to make it up to you, didn’t matter if he had to bleed out and show you his heart himself. He was an idiot, an idiot beyond grateful that you still took him in.
“I declined Ts’ute,” You said, breathless.
“I think the kiss explained enough, alright.” He chuckled and you could only push him away in embarrassment, the confidence completely leaving your entirety the moment his cockiness returned. Ao’nung pulled you back in an embrace, his eyes never leaving yours and you swore the butterflies inside your stomach fluttered violently– he looked at you like you had hung the stars yourself, so delicate and full of love. “I see you, __. I mean it.”
“You better.”
Pain puts you to sleep despite your piquing anxiety. You doze until your alarm wakes you. The pin in your neck has dulled enough to move, carefully. You dress in the dark, a turtleneck and your most broken-in jeans. You sit for a while and contemplate the day ahead of you, bracing your mind and body.
You get up and toss your things in your purse, keys, phone, whathaveyou. You'll have coffee at work, may as well get it while you're there. You creep through the large house without turning on any lights, stopping by the door to wiggle into your boots and lifting your jacket from the hook. Lloyd likes to sleep in but you won't chance an early morning encounter.
You go out into the brisk autumn air and toss your purse and coat into the passenger seat as you drop into the driver's side. You adjust the backrest and see the shuddered lights from the second floor. You don't notice any movement or shadows on the other side.
You reverse out and drive without urgency. You'll be well on time, you would just rather be out of that house. You roll the steering wheel with your thumb as you yawn. A glare of headlights flashes in the rearview but don't make the light behind you. They fade as you cruise along, street by street, until you get to the cafe. You park by a meter and use the app to pay for the day.
Cole greets you, approaching at the same time as you. You stand back and wait for him to unlock the door. He holds it for you and follows you inside.
"You okay?" He asks as he turns the latch back into place, "you're quiet."
"Late night," you resist shrugging, not wanting to trigger that tedious nerve.
"Tell me about it," he scoffs as you take out the till to balance and he goes about checking the machines. "Ma has this mouse that won't leave her pantry alone. I spent hours trying to catch the thing. She doesn't wanna kill it so..."
"Aw, that's kinda cute, and so nice of you."
"Yeah, dad won't go along with it. He says if he sees the thing, he'll be sure to stomp it," he clucks his tongue, "I don't even know what to do with it if I do catch it."
"Hmm, yeah, I wouldn't know," you hum as you break a roll of dimes.
"Anyways, work, I got everything expensed out. Do you want reimbursement on your first pay or I can cut you a check today?" He offers as he comes to stand beside you.
"Oh, well, it's whatever. I can wait until payday if it's easier."
He nods and smiles at you, fingers tapping on the counter as he watches you. He's close. Very close. You can smell his pine cologne and vague scent of sawdust. "You say I'm nice? I don't think I've met someone like you in... well, ever. You make everything so easy."
"Uh, really?" You utter skeptically. You'd argue the opposite, everything in your life seems too complicated.
"Yeah, you're so giving. You know, I can tell you take care of everyone else before yourself. It's amazing but not good for you. If you need a day off..."
"No, no, don't worry about me," you open the drawer on the register and shove the till inside, "really, I can manage. I'm used to twenty kids running circles around me."
"Ah, yeah, how was that? You must like kids. Or... did you quit? Was it too much?"
His curiosity bristles on your scalp. He's just being nice and yet, it's a bit too much. Or maybe you're just overwhelmed by everything else. He might be right, you might need a day. But time off means more time in Lloyd's domain.
"No, I loved it. Every day was so fun and you see the kids learning and growing and they just, there's never a problem bigger than a toy they don't want to share, you know?" You can't help but smile, "they called me mimi..." the word dangles, slightly tainted as you hear Lloyd in your head, "and they always wanted hugs."
"Wow, sure beats steaming milk 'til you're red in the face," he drawls, "I wanna be selfish and beg you not to leave us but seems like you loved it."
"Yeah, well, I'll see if I get any calls," you swallow and turn to check the opening list laminated and hung behind the baked goods display.
A knock hammers at the door and startles you both. You look at Cole as he furrows his brow back at you. He tilts his head.
"Peter's closing today..." he utters.
You glance at the door and see a man you don't recognise on the other side. Cole shows his palm, gesturing you to stay as he squeezes past you and goes around the other side of the counter. He crosses to the door and taps his watch at the man.
"We're closed, got half an hour--"
The impatient customer keeps his jaw set and reaches under his dark jacket. He pulls something out and slaps it against the glass. Cole growls and puts his head back. He turns his hands out helplessly and unlocks the door. You spy the man's golden badge as he steps in without a word.
"What's going on?" Cole steps back, hooking his thumbs in his jeans.
"Break-in up the street," the man says, "we're just checking things out..."
"Oh? A break-in?" Cole gulps.
"Really?" You murmur.
The man looks at you, his blue eyes glinting. He nods and faces Cole again, "Detective Fowler."
Cole juts out his chin in thought before he replies, "a detective? Isn't that a bit much for a break-in?"
"Some details can't be divulged," Fowler insists.
"Of course," Cole agrees, "we only just got here like ten minutes ago and we haven't seen anything."
The detective nods as he paces around, considering every inch, soles scuffing across the floor. He nears the counter across from you and looks you up and down. His cheek dimples just slightly.
"Do I know you?" He asks. Your brows pop up and you sputter. No, you don't.
He hums and pokes his tongue inside his cheek, "wait," he snaps his finger, "you know Johnny Storm. Young guy on the beat."
"Um," you look away, "yeah, he's my ex."
"Ah shit, sorry, I didn't know. Don't know the kid much but run into him time to time," he slides his hand into his pocket, "well, guess you two wouldn't know much. If you do see anything..." He slips a card out of his pocket and holds it out to you, "you can call me."
He backs up and turns on his heel. He nods to Cole as he struts back to the door, opening it himself as he leaves you both in nervous silence. Cole grumbles and crosses his arms. You look at him as he scowls.
"Seemed real interested in you," he intones, "I didn't know your ex was a cop."
You wet your dry lips with the tip of your tongue and exhale, "yeah, well, he's my ex for a reason. I've moved on." You return your attention to the list, "so let's do the same and get back to work.”
