Spinoff Berlin tv show is airing soon. What are your feelings about it?

Bleh. I don't really expect to enjoy it, but I hope there'll be some nice Pedro content at least. Maybe some Andrés character quirks I wouldn't mind including in my headcanons or writing? I keep my hopes rather low, but I'm sure they can still do the limbo. There's the obvious "no one asked for this", and I just think Andrés works so much better as a side character with established relationships, I just don't see the appeal of having him as a lead with his own gang.

Furthermore, I suppose I am personally & selfishly worried about just losing all my interest for writing (even though - maybe I should be excited to free up the brain space for something else after a couple of years of this :D). It's always been a big draw for me in ships when the characters have largely unexplored history and I get to explore it in writing however I want. I don't really vibe with the idea of them making more stuff about Andrés canon that I'll just have to politely ignore, not to mention this increasing diminishing of Martín's importance in his life.

Anyway, I've been accused of being a bit too negative about this so uhhh c'est la vie qué será será, see you on the other side of this, and I hope the show is ultimately a fun if forgettable inoffensive romp and Andrés doesn't terribly overstay his welcome :)

i don't really like when people say dungeon meshi is accidentally good autistic representation, because while i understand not wanting to make conclusions without explicit confirmation from the author, there's always the weird assumption that non-western authors somehow don't know about things like neurodivergency/queerness/etc. (on top of the assumptions that east asian authors are somehow more naive or oblivious to "western" social issues).

given that dungeon meshi started being published in 2014, it's not really a "work belonging to its times"—it's as contemporary as any other media we discuss on this site, which means it should be fair to assume it engages with contemporary topics (and at the very least, you shouldn't say that the representation is accidental with so much confidence)

but anyways, the chapter "perfect communication" in ryoko kui's "terrarium in a drawer" is some of the most straightforward autistic representation I've seen, and from now on I'm going to assume that laios's character writing is absolutely intentional in that regard:

Stay in bed. For days. But don't get up if someone needs you to, or you get bored, or you get antsy. Don't do anything other than rest. Just lie in your bed, whether you need to get stuff done around the house or socialize or anything else "productive". You'll have to cancel on people, you'll disappoint them, they won't understand.

And if you're thinking, "well, i CAN'T just be in bed. There's stuff that has to be done - I have plans", maybe ask yourself why you assumed a disabled person doesn't have plans or things to do or desires.

What we need to do is convince all the disney adults in america that high speed rail would be a preferable way of getting to disneyworld compared to driving or flying. We could maybe harness their fondness for the monorail or something, but this is a group of people that has time, income, and passion that we could leverage. If we could direct 5% of the enthusiasm they have for limited edition popcorn buckets into calling their representatives and demanding high-speed interstate rail, we could get it by 2030
