And that’s WORSE than if it had just taken talent in general, but it‘s especially worse for RINCEWIND, who Isn’t a wizard because he’s good at it, but because he wanted to try!!!! He wanted to learn!!!!!!!! And now that isn’t an option at all and it TOOK that from him!!!!!! And it’s even possessing him a little and his first instinct was to sass it for not being able remember how the universe began. everytime i think about him for 0.2 seconds i need to scream, throw up, hurl myself through the nearest wall, and possibly die of consumption. Why did everyone’s profile pics get turned into circles on the dashboard (at least on mobile)? I feel like the change happened with no warning so a lot of people’s profile pics got cropped funny and I don’t understand why y’all made the change in the first place.

Answer: Hi, @lemonsofjune!

It’s true: post headers on web and iOS recently got an update, including changing avatars to circles.

This is part of a larger effort to make Tumblr more accessible and understandable and make posts easier to scan. This change was partly about style (rounded edges tend to feel less harsh) but it’s part of a larger effort to improve how posts work and feel and reduce visual noise. As before, you can still choose between a circle or square avatar shape in your blog settings, and that choice will show up on your blog.

Tumblr posts have to convey a lot in a small space: who made the post, if it’s a reblog or original, when it was posted, whether it’s recommended or sponsored, and how to interact with it. It all needs to be clear at a glance, without overwhelming the post itself. With these changes, elements in the header and footer (the avatar, icons, the typography) are more consistently sized. 

You may also notice that avatars are slightly bigger. This makes it easier to recognize who posted at a glance, which is especially important for reblogs or recommended posts. We learned from previous changes that smaller avatars, or removing them on reblogs, meant people had a harder time identifying who posted, resulting in fewer reblogs, likes, and replies. Trust in the source of a post matters on Tumblr, where reblogs are core to how content spreads.

We’re keeping a close eye on how this feels and will continue refining it. As always, we appreciate hearing what’s working (or not) for you.

I mean, with a few adjustments to her programming and structure, the Engineer can definitely give her a lactation feature! If the Engineer is ever feeling restless and needs a quick break from her work, she’ll just spin around, ask Himeko to peel down her dress, and then latch her lips onto her boobs and suckle the milk right out.

It certainly helps to de-stress after a particularly hard day of fixing. Himeko certainly enjoys it <3

After a brief slumber in the neutrocasket, our brand-new android is pumped full of neutroamine and ready to join our colony at last!!

He will henceforth be called Alistair, which means "defender of mankind". Alistair is programmed with a level 12 melee ability, which is a skill we're actually lacking a lot in our colony. Hopefully, he will be a very good defender of our two mechanitors and Ivy—if they ever allow him anywhere near combat. They'll probably be quite precious with him for a long time yet.

The Jones boys were quick to make some fresh clothes for Alistair, and even gave him a hat because I was so caught up in the excitement of making things for a cool new colonist that I forgot I'd have to draw it.

AND another thing. because it HAS NOT left me alone for the past 3 weeks and if i must scream into the void about it then So Be It absolutely none of you are overlooking this rincewind characterization on my watch.

because the thing is. say, all of thirty pages into the light fantastic, we get some trymon characterization. some early, establishing characterization. setting up this guy. the main antagonist, the other primary viewpoint character of this book (insofar as it can be said to have either of those things, given the style of narration). this guy. who is cold, selfish, ruthless, and obsessed with things like ｡･:*:･ﾟ★,｡･:*:･ﾟ☆ efficiency ｡･:*:･ﾟ★,｡･:*:･ﾟ☆. and. he’s bad at languages.

“He wasn’t very good at languages, he’d always found them highly inefficient things which by rights ought to be replaced by some sort of easily understood numerical system,”

and then we smashcut immediately to rincewind:

“Rincewind had a very good ear for languages.”

and yes, yes i will stand here and argue that this is in fact an EXTREMELY plot-relevant character detail, beyond the fact that it DOES have utility in the scene at hand. all joking aside about rincewind can scream for help in 47 languages, or however the line goes. i’m just.

points to this frantically.

rincewind, whose one EXTREMELY NOTABLE CANONICAL TALENT, is languages. who is being actively and immediately contrasted with trymon. this HAS been stuck in my head for three weeks but i opened my book to make this post and actually these scenes are LITERALLY back-to-back. these character descriptions are. immediately. directly juxtaposed to one another. and i want to say something about how this description of rincewind comes up because this is a skill he is actively using in the scene in question, that does give him insight into the world and does, perhaps even more importantly, allow him to connect with the gnome in this particular scene in a way that is helpful to him and twoflower, yes, but just. actually the only way i need to explain it is this:

we are told who trymon is, and that he is bad at languages.

we are told that rincewind is good at languages.

and, actually, without further elaboration, that says a whole fucking lot about who rincewind is.
