Things that made me angry about Shadowhunters (The Show)

Jace and Clary. I love them in the books but in the series I hate them the most

Simon. He was a whiny baby and a damsel in distress, which, by the way, he is not in the books

The whole story about the wedding and Lydia

The Yin Fen storyline. Nothing made me more angry than this storyline. In my opinion, Jem was insulted with it

Jonathan and Valentine were such ridiculous antagonists

That Alec and other shadowhunters were possessed by a demon. Demons cannot possess shadowhunters because of the protection rituals.

Jocelyn's death and Luke and Mary becoming a couple

Clary's voice and the dyed red hair that looked really fake (nothing against McNamara)

Clary and Isabelle as Parabatai. Both have no chemistry

when you dislike the MC of a good series AKA Who Will Die in The Wicked Powers

damn, being petty enough to flip off the MC x canon ship in my (favorite) fandom is really kicking me in the ass--

yeah, basically I can't touch half the TSC stuff on Tumblr bc I'm so anti-Clace...(meanwhile I love literally every other character that's been in every Shadowhunter series)...& they're probably gonna have a wedding + kids in the next books (assuming Jace isn't killed)...

The Wicked Powers is most definitely gonna have the Princes of Hell as the main villains. I feel like Luke, Gwyn, or Izzy will die, since the younger Shadowhunters are supposed to be central & well...look at the couples who will be alive/extant by TWP:

Jace already died once. Clary had dreams about dying, but those were shown to be visions of Thule. Based on canon events, I think they're Clare's favorite ship. SAFE.

Magnus almost gave himself to Asmodeus in CoHF. Alec almost-ish died saving Magnus in The Eldest Curses. Also, Alec almost died thanks to that poison demon in TMI (the one Magnus saved him from). Malec might end up forced to rule some region of Hell (reason unknown but I think it'll have to do with them beating/destroying Asmodeus). I feel like past events foreshadow Magnus dealing with the unfortunate sides of being a warlock. But he won't die--the "killing your gays" trope might actually save he & Alec.

Simon nearly died when the vampires attacked him (when he was a mundane), then when Valentine bled him pre-Daylighter (then Jace's blood saved him). He "sacrificed" himself to Asmodeus CoHF, in the form of his vampire immortality + memories (which he basically got back later on). Izzy...she's been through a lot psychologically & about as much as I think most Shadowhunters would physically. She lost Max & her dad. But she's a badass (I'm not faulting her for it, either). So I don't think she's safe.

Julian & Emma both lost their parents in horrible ways. Their whole series was about the parabatai curse (which, to me, was conveniently not mentioned in chronologically earlier series...probably because it wasn't invented til TDA was written, lol). They're kinda written to be the leaders of Livvy's Watch. SAFE.

Kit has his whole faerie power reveal shit to explore & he + Ty are some of the major characters in TWP. I'm pretty sure they'll spend the series healing their relationship. SAFE.

Kieran/Cristina/Mark will survive because 1) Kieran as the Unseelie King is an important Shadowhunter ally, 2) they're poly rep in YA, which is rare, and 3) killing one of them off would leave the others to mourn in such a weird way. SAFE.

I love Dru Blackthorn. She's one of the main of TWP, so I think she'll survive, plus tbh I don't think any more Blackthorns will be killed. Ash will probably end up as the Seelie King or as Clace's adopted son, to "redeem" Sebastian in a narrative sense. Jaime's sort of a main for TWP as one of Dru's love interests. SAFE.

Diana & Gwyn aren't main characters (though I like their romance). Diana also is the ONLY transgender person in all the books (unless I missed something). I don't think she'll be killed off. Gwyn might be just because I see the Wild Hunt as an important group in TWP & he might die protecting Diana (narratively, this shows strengthened faerie-Shadowhunter relations, despite the Wild Hunt being unaffiliated with either Court).

Luke & Jocelyn deserve to be endgame, but I could see Luke being killed off as one of those "MC's loved one is killed so the MC goes & avenges them" type of things. I love Luke & Jocelyn as characters, though.

Tessa & Jem deserve to be endgame, arguably, more than any couple. They were the mains in their series, then Jem survived but was sort-of-"lost" when he became a Silent Brother. Then he miraculously became a (mortal) Shadowhunter again when he was burned by heavenly fire, he just left the Clave behind to hang with Tessa (good choice!). Tessa has a baby & she's gonna suffer enough when she outlives Jem. SAFE?

(and our current merged conceptualisation of the whole autistic spectrum is only from 2013--hate what that means for tda and likely twp but That Is A Different Rant). anyway to me they're for the most part decent, empowering, anti-ableist for the most part autistic rep. is it just my wishful thinking?

Anna is soooo autistic in my mind, her funky fresh gender, slay tendencies, random snake decor, and overall blunt vibes are so not neurotypical

Idk if I ever got autism vibes from James, but he def has like so many mental illnesses that he could have symptom overlap. Honestly, the whole tlh gang is just super neurodivergent w/ a touch of the tism

I do think it says something about CC’s ability to write autistic characters, too. She could totally pull off Ty flawlessly, she understands autism and neurodivergence very well, but she’s just refusing to??? I think she’s just in her own head about it and doesn’t realize how majorly important her autistic rep is

Also, I fully believe that the sudden gear shift to Dru/Ash (for TWP marketing) was because she just didn’t want to have to give Ty a major POV. She’s literally never shy’d away from MLM rep (Malec has their own entire series lol), and the fact that the fandom was delusional about it being homophobic makes me sooo mad. Like, it’s super obvious that she will do ANYTHING to not write a Ty pov. She prefers GHOSTS over him

One thing that has kept me away from the whole tarlos thing is how the fandom is very toxic and are hellbent on hating Owen and rob (which I guess it’s understandable given his previous faux pas, narcissistic weirdo he is. But I love his portrayal of Sam seaborn) because he’s Owen and he’s taking precious screen time from tarlos. Same thing happened with clace during the shadowhunters era, who insisted on hating on malec/harry/Matt fans, just because their ship was not the most popular. That toxic environment made run away from that clace ship and from their actors by proxy (which it’s an awful thing, because Kate and dom are sweet angels who deserve the world).

I don’t know, it’s waaaay early and I hate you’re shoving your anti-Owen attitude disguised with your love of tarlos.

Honestly coming from being heavy in the Sterek fandom for years we THRIVED on AUs. like, sure, werewolves, fun. But also Merthur, Destiel, Malec, etc. big name ships (with their own fandom problems, but that's not the point lol) with heavy supernatural content very specific to each source materiel. That's fun for a while, but it gets stale QUICK. Usually fandoms live and die off of AUs. It's one of the most fun and interesting and creative parts of fandoms. I've also literally never seen this happen in any other fandom and it is the weirdest, mind boggling situation. I can't fathom why anyone would WANT to stunt themselves from being creative. From asking, 'What if?' That's one of the best parts of fandoms. Just speculating and pondering. ESPECIALLY if the source material lets you down, you always have the what ifs to fall back on for entertainment. It used to be, honestly, fandom could create such interesting content that the show commonly failed in comparison. It just couldn't hold a candle to how people can create such beautiful, interesting things out of virtually nothing. Maybe it came with the death of weekly releases, where we spent a week each episode hypothesizing. IDK I wish there was a way to change it but. Shows almost over so. IDK maybe when the show is dead people will get off everyone's back and move to a new show, so the ones who are interested in being creative will be able to create in peace.

Don't like don't read is a very common statement but it shouldn't be needed for just everything ever in a specific ship. Why are you even in a ship to begin with if you're gonna hate on every possible thought. It's as if people can't separate fact from fiction? Canon from fanon? There's nothing wrong at all with making stuff up for the fun of it. If you only want source material content... go watch the show? Why are you participating in fandom if everyone is suddenly not allowed to change one fraction of an inch of it? I understand appreciating the source materiel, but I also don't see why it's a problem to take that source materiel and flip it on it's head. Why do people care so much...? IDK. I don't even publish my stuff (this might be partially why lmao) but it's still super frustrating. Sorry for ranting in your inbox lol Sorry you get so much flak for literally no reason

hello ! i've got nothing to add to what you said; i've been in a lot of fandoms too and you're completely right !! au's are the way things survive in periods of inactivity / after the show (movie, manga or whatever) ends !!! so it is indeed frustrating when people actively sabotage this huge aspect of fan media :\

Not me seeing a fic about the 3x18 breakup and the magnus body swap episode and the fic writer making it all about Alec, with the tags "Alec deserves nice things" and "hurt Alec Lightwood" but then they have NOTHING about Magnus...

why does the malec fandom hate clace shippers?

Because they wanted the show to be solely about their ship. And because Alec was a dick to Clary so suddenly the fandom was and still is very anti Clary. Like They sent abuse to Kat, THE ACTRESS FOR CLARY. They wished REAL HARM on her. They made fun of her voice, her hair, everything. Not to mention making fun of Clary’s MULTIPLE sexual assaults and attempted sexual assaults on her. They made fun of Jace’s suicidal behaviour, and other things like wanting both characters to die. THE MAKING FUN OF LILITH SEXUALLY ASSUALTING JACE??????? They CELEBRATED the bullshit ending Clary got. 

Honestly when the show was airing they were a lot worse and I mean they still are the literal worst. They still invade the tags, tag hate in the tags. Send anon hate. You know.

Honestly I loved LOVED Malec. but like…….. I can’t even look at them in the show anymore, the fandom is that gross it’s completely ruined any love i have for them and Magnus was a huge, HUGE, inspiration for me. 

TBH I literally saw one big blogger suddenly not like Clary and call Clace the worst and within a week the bullshit started between s1 and 2a so like…. Prettyy much the fandom is just…kinda misogynistic and fetishy. I honestly don’t know why they hate Clace shippers so much like. I wish I knew and I wish they’d stay the fuck away from me.
