i overheard this random old dude outside of synagogue earlier today (right after services when everyone stands around and talks minus the kiddush part) saying that lots of young Jews, especially from day schools and similar places, are leaving the community because they open their eyes and learn real values and then they feel betrayed by the institutions that lied to them. and then I was going to go talk to him because a) literally that is exactly what I experienced and what I’m still dealing with, b) there are basically no adults or even teenagers at my synagogue who agree with me or can have like. productive conversations about Israel with me, and c) where did this guy get the courage to lecture a bunch of typical synagogue-goers about Zionism on Yom Kippur and can I please be more like that. but then he disappeared before I could get to him :(

basically, the zionist strategy of painting all anti-zionism as antisemitism has been pretty succesful, but now that they are carrying out a very public mass slaughter it's going into reverse -- i think that increasingly, all accusations of antisemitism will be assumed by a lot of people to just be zionist whining, even when it's unambiguous & genuine antisemisim (people getting attacked on the street, threats and actual violence to synagogues, etc). Totally fucked situation.

I don't think goyim properly understand the fear and change that the wave of antisemitism currently taking place in the wake of the October 7th massacre has induced in the Jewish community.
In a wide-lens view, Jews have become a 1000% more wary and introspective. This isn't limited to diaspora Jews--the headlines pouring out of Israel until October 7th have been of division, polarization, and conflict. Conflict over the 2018 Nation-State Law. Over Bibi's premiership. Over the judicial reform laws. Over the Orthodox Rabbinate. Over this. Over that.
But Israeli society is more unified than ever right now. The judicial reform laws were shelved shortly after the war began and the protests ended on October 8th. Some of it is the rally around the flag effect, yes, and will probably fade as time passes--politics never stops--but the era of Israelis being at one another's throats? Of forgetting that we are all one people and we are all under attack? Gone. It died on October 7th.
In the Diaspora, Jews are once again asking themselves the question--will I need to flee? Guys, a fifth of Gen Z--my generation, that I attend university with--believes the Holocaust was a myth. Two thirds of them think Jews are oppressors. That's terrifying. And the reason we don't take comfort in people saying, 'They're kids with no political power.' is that that won't be true forever. Today's slacktivists who casually say that Israel has no right to exist are tomorrows lawmakers. They will grow up and set policy.
We don't know if they'll grow out of it. I pray to HaShem that they will, but how do I know if they will?
And that's tomorrow's world. Today's world is already bad enough. I don't wear my Star of David necklace to the self-defense classes I've started taking because being surrounded by burly dudes learning how to fight people better isn't a great place to potentially learn that I'm surrounded by antisemites.
Jews--in the year 2024--are being doxxed, seen their homes and synagogues vandalized and threatened, walk past Palestine protests screaming for the death of Zionists, and antisemitism has increased in the United States alone by more than 400%. It's worse elsewhere--Turkish shop owners have been barring Jews from their stores and France has seen antisemitic incidents increase by 1000%. Jews have been leaving social media sites like Tumblr, Reddit, Tik Tok, and Twitter in droves, chased away by the constant, unceasing stream of anti-Jewish hate.
Gentiles need to understand that their words and actions have very real consequences. Jews are not dumb. We're not imagining things. We aren't 'getting our just desserts'. Our fears are grounded not only by historical context but by our current, everyday, lived realities. To gentiles, reading 'antisemitism has gone up by x percent' is a factoid. To us, it is a serious threat and a deep concern.
EDIT: I'm tired of pro-Palestine people sharing this post and using it to back their agenda. You are not welcome to use my experiences to suit your agenda. I am a Zionist! This post is Zionist! Stop taking my words from me and using it against my people.

awful tweet warning:
Tumblr media
Before I describe everything that's wrong with this tweet, let me transcribe Stephen Fry's words:
I am Stephen Fry, and I am a Jew. The great Irish thinker and writer Conor Cruise O'Brien once said that antisemitism is a light sleeper. Well, it seems to have woken up of late. The horrendous events of October 7th, and the Israeli response, seem to have stirred up this ancient hatred. It's agonizing to see all violence and destruction that is unfolding, and the terrible loss of life on both sides brings me an overwhelming sadness and heartache. But whatever our opinions on what is happening, there can be no excuse for the behaviour of some of our citizens. Since October the 7th, there have been 50 separate reported incidents of antisemitism every single day in London alone, an increase of 1350%, according to the Metropolitan police. Shop windows smashed, stars of David and swastikas daubed on walls of Jewish properties, synagogues, and cemeteries. Jewish schools have been forced to close. There is real fear stalking the Jewish neighbourhoods of Britain. Jewish people here are becoming fearful of showing themselves, in Britain, in 2023.
(Then it cuts off.)
For those who still don't know why this tweet was ignorant and inane, let me explain.
"To hear him conflate antiZionism with antisemitism has shocked me."
Guess how many times Stephen Fry mentions zionism? Zero! Guess how many times he mentions the country of Israel? Zero! (Unless you count "the Israeli response" which is unrelated to the existence of the country, or Zionism at all.) What this person is saying, is that they consider the smashing of shop windows, and the vandalism and marking of Jewish property, to be anti-Zionism. Considering they are an anti-Zionist, by following their logic, we can conclude that they not only believe this destruction and harassment is acceptable, but they believe it is ethical.
Further, they accuse him of showing no care for the Palestinians, even though he explicitly states that the loss of life on both sides brings him overwhelming sadness.
Finally, they accuse him of "[Centring] people in this country". It is disturbing that this person believes one cannot be concerned over two issues at a time. It perpetuates the idea that we can only talk about the "worst oppression" and talking about anything else means you are complicit in "silencing" someone else. If this were true, we would not be allowed to talk about Gaza either, or Ukraine, or police brutality, racism, islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia, and so on and so on, because clearly there are other issues with hundreds of thousands more deaths, and millions more displacements, so why bring attention to it ever?
Unfortunately, people are not talking about those countries, like Syria, Yemen, Ethiopia, Congo, and more, and anyone who does is spammed with "free Palestine" comments. In fact, the most I've heard people talking about Sudan is when these TikTok geopolitical experts attempt to spam the Palestinian flag and get it wrong.
This is not new. This is obviously not new. I have seen tweets like these every single day in the hundreds for the last 80 days. It is not surprising that people think smashing windows is "anti-zionism", nor that they think it good. It is not surprising that they hear a Jew speak, and experience shock and disgust, regardless of what we say.
I do wonder if they would regard anything short of a second Holocaust as antisemitism.

Antisemitic anti-Zionists: We think every Jew on the planet is personally responsible for the deaths in Gaza. So we’re gonna attack synagogues and JCCs, vandalize Holocaust memorials, boycott and violently protest at local Jewish-owned businesses, and send death threats to Jews online. We’re gonna do this all around the world. And we’re gonna do it for several months straight
Jews: Ok. I am now going to move to Israel. Where those things. Do not happen.
Antisemitic anti-Zionists:

Hi, can I say something as a Jew. It's so fucking gross that suddenly European governments are "worried" about our safety and have started police patrols around synagogues due to an increase of anti-semitic attacks ("attacks" such as waving a Palestinian flag, truly scary stuff!). I've had family members beaten up after leaving the synagogue and cops did absolutely nothing, saying since there were no cameras nothing they could do to identify the culprits, oops 🤪.
Anyway, free Palestine, all the solidarity from an anti-Zionist Sephardic Jew.

since zionists want to act obtuse about why we're criticizing a superbowl ad, here's an explanation from before the ad even aired. it was openly designed to act as pro-genocide propaganda. fighting antisemitism is a worthy goal but that's not what's happening here:
"The New England Patriots’ 81-year-old owner, Robert Kraft, writes seven-digit checks to the right-wing Israeli lobbying machine AIPAC, but his personal, political, and financial ties to Israel run deeper than the occasional donation. The multibillionaire married his late wife, Myra, in Israel in 1963 when Kraft, then 22, was older than the nation itself. Together they set up numerous business, athletic, and charitable ties to Israel, a record of which is proudly proclaimed on the Kraft company website. In particular, the Kraft Group boasts of its 'Touchdown in Israel' program, where NFL players are given free, highly organized vacations to see 'the holy land' and come back to spread the word about 'the only democracy in the Middle East.' (Not every NFL player has chosen to take part.) Kraft also attends fundraisers for the Israel Defense Forces, currently—and in open view of the world—committing war crimes in Gaza."
Now, as Israel wages war against the civilians of Gaza—more than 25,000 Palestinian have been killed with at least 10,000 of them children—Kraft is again flexing his financial and political muscles in order to defend the indefensible. His Foundation to Combat Antisemitism (FCAS) will be spending an estimated $7 million to buy a Super Bowl ad titled 'Stop Jewish Hate' that will be seen by well over 100 million people. Under Kraft’s direction, the ad’s goal is to create a propaganda campaign to counter the reports and images from Gaza that young people are consuming on social media.
... The content of the Super Bowl ad is not yet known, but FCAS has afforded Kraft the opportunity to make the rounds on cable news saying things like, 'It’s horrible to me that a group like Hamas can be respected and people in the United States of America can be carrying flags or supporting them.'
This is Kraft enacting the mission of FCAS: fostering disinformation. He is far from subtle: A Palestinian flag becomes a 'Hamas flag,' and people like the hundreds of thousands who took to the streets of Washington, D.C., last month to call for a cease-fire and end the violence are expressions of the 'rise in antisemitism.' Without a sense of irony or the horrors happening on the ground in Gaza, Kraft says he is giving $100 million of his own money to FCAS, because 'hate leads to violence.'
Let’s be clear: What Kraft is doing politically and what he will be using the Super Bowl as a platform to do is dangerous. He appears to think any criticism of Israel is inherently antisemitic. For Kraft, it is Jews like myself, rabbis, and Holocaust survivors calling for a cease-fire and a Free Palestine that are part of the problem. Kraft seems to think that opposition to Israel, the IDF, and the AIPAC agenda is antisemitism.
... Right-wing Christian nationalists, with their belief in a Jewish state existing alongside their conviction that Jews are going to Hell, are welcome in Netanyahu’s Israel and Kraft’s coalition. Left-wing anti-Zionist Jews are not. The greatest foghorn of this evangelical right-wing 'love Israel, hate Jews' perspective is, of course, Donald Trump. Kraft, while speaking of being troubled by events like the Charlottesville Nazi march and the right-wing massacre at the Tree of Life synagogue, counts Donald Trump as a close friend and even donated $1 million to his presidential inauguration.
No one who provides cover for the most powerful, public antisemite in the history of US politics should ever be taken seriously on how to best fight antisemitism. No one who funds AIPAC and the IDF and opposes a cease-fire amid the carnage should be allowed a commercial platform at the Super Bowl. But given that the big game is always an orgy of militarism, blind patriotism, and big budget commercials that lie through their teeth, perhaps that ad could not be more appropriate. We can do better than Kraft’s perspective on how to fight antisemitism. Morally, we don’t have a choice."

it feels like the world is fucking gaslighting jews. synagogues—especially one with PRESCHOOL and RELIGIOUS SCHOOL in session—are getting bomb threats called in on a regular basis. this has been a HUGE spike since 10/7 (not since the state of israel's reuptick in the victimization of palestinians, but since october seventh, the shabbat when hamas massacred a bunch of civilians and took over a hundred hostages, most of whom ARENT EVEN FUCKING HOME YET). meanwhile jews are the only fucking ones talking about it online, as goyim keep sticking their fingers in their ears and saying antisemitism isn't an issue, jews are exaggerating. i get asks DAILY accusing me of loving genocide, being a zionist (not that anybody saying that even knows what that word even fucking means), what have you
jewish children. BABIES. are having their lives threatened DAILY ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FUCKING GLOBE FROM THE BLOODSHED THESE PEOPLE ARE SUPPOSEDLY DISGUSTED BY. AND WE'RE OVERREACTING???
reminder if your reaction to everything happening rn is calling for MORE violence—against jews or israelis, muslims or palestinians—then you are going directly against the wishes of those who have actually, personally lost people in this, and you're only stirring the pot. make fucking sure your activism is ACTUALLY against antisemitism, not just rbing cutesy little posts about punching nazis and just repeating "anti-zionism ≠ antisemitism." LISTEN TO JEWS FOR FUCKS SAKE. and give us space to fucking mourn

Jeiwsh Actress Miriam Margolyes has recently made a statement speaking out against Israel;
“What we are doing, the Jewish people, over in Israel is shocking, embarrassing and wicked. and I cannot understand why all Jewish people, particularly members of Synagogues, do not want immediately to stop what is going on. And in the name of Humanity, I call upon all Jews to shout, beg, scream for a ceasefire.” You can watch the full video here.
Although Margolyes feeds into Zionist, anti-revolutionary rhetoric by saying “of course I condemn Hamas”, a phrase often used to devalue and discredit the Palestinian revolutionary movement and justify Israel’s bombing and destruction of the land— Margolyes statement is essential. She directly calls out the international Jewish community, our religious institutions, our silence. She will be called an antisemite, a Jew-hater, and everything Zionists tire out. But, Miriam Margolyes is right.
We, as Jews, must do more. We must call out our Shuls, our institutions, our Rabbis and our families. We must demand to be heard, in the name of freedom, of humanity, of Judaism.

If a person doesn’t have a single post about freeing Palestine or any posts directly from Palestinian people about their own culture/history and/or they refuse to acknowledge or even use the word ‘genocide’ for what’s happening right now…that person is most likely going to be a Zionist.
This ain’t even a joke y’all and this isn’t about ‘witch hunting’ people either. A LOT of Zionists/soft Zionists (people who do the ‘both sides’ bs) have the same theme to them:
They’ll constantly boost posts only about antisemitism (which on the surface, is valid to talk about at any time) but there will be NO posts about aiding Palestinians, no posts from Palestinian bloggers, news outlets, journalists on the ground, videos of the devastation happening, etc. They’ll hyperfocus ONLY on antisemitism, which can range from posting about an armed antisemite walking around outside of a synagogue (clearly bad) to getting mad at anti-Zionists and Palestinian people in general, validly criticizing Israel’s genocidal policies (literally, bare minimum human decency).
Far too many popular ‘liberal/leftie’ blogs here on tumblr have already unmasked themselves as softcore colonialists just because they need to center themselves in a situation that isn’t about them, specifically and are easily giving ammo to white nationalists against Muslims and Arabic people worldwide.
Listen, I know people want to highlight the importance of how dangerous antisemitism and islamophobia are for Jewish and Muslim people right now and it is paramount that more people can clock it when it happens or try to prevent it from happening.
However…A LOT of liberal/leftie Zionists who act like they’re doing that by speaking on behalf of the current peoples being murdered without actively engaging with or sharing ANY media or material created by Palestinian, Lebanese, or any other peoples that Israel is attacking (especially if that media does not portray Israel in a good light) are not actually dedicated to decolonization or anti-imperialist activism. Period.
And one last point I want to make:
Zionism is not synonymous with Judaism. They are not the same thing and Jewish people have a much longer history within anti-Zionist activism than a LOT of liberal/leftie Zionists think. Some of them are fully aware of it and just want to use Judaism as a shield against any criticisms targeting Israel’s inherently colonialist history of the past 70+ years. That isn’t fair to Jewish people who are and have been constantly protesting against Israel’s occupation of Palestine nor is it fair to any of the people in Palestine and Lebanon and Egypt who have been and currently are dealing with the impact of the occupation’s wrath.

So uh… to the “pro-Palestine” crowd
- harassing random jews on the streets (and online) isn’t going to help Palestinians
- swarming and blockading college campus buildings (and hospitals) and chanting genocidal slogans at jews isn’t going to help Palestinians
- defacing synagogues and jewish owned stores isn’t going to help Palestinians
- displaying antisemitic signs and waving nazi flags isn’t going to help Palestinians
- chanting for intifada isn’t going to help Palestinians (Hamas would love that though)
- spreading Hamas propaganda isn’t going to help Palestinians
This doesn’t help Palestinians- but it sure does help Hamas who’s goal is to wipe out Israel and all jews. Also Hamas could care less for Palestinians- why do you think they are being used as human shields???
Doing all of these things makes you antisemitic (some of y’all were probably already antisemitic, and is using the I/P conflict to go fully unmasked). You doing this is causing harm to so many people. And to be honest- doing this shit shows that you actually don’t care for Palestine. In fact you are using this conflict to go fully unmask and be raging antisemitic little asshats.
Instead of doing something that could help those who are affected by this war, you are harassing jews, defacing synagogues, and calling for intifadas. Why is that? (I know the answer- but humor me). Why is this acceptable? How does harassing and harming jews help Palestine? And how does supporting Hamas (a terrorist organization) help Palestine?
Also I may get hate for this but I don’t care: anti Zionism is antisemitism. The term anti Zionist was created during the soviet era by one of the soviet leaders. The Soviet Union hated jews and wanted to stamp them all out. One of the ways that they “succeeded” was “persuading” jews that their culture and religion was dirty. That they- the jews should be ashamed of their “Jewishness”. And that was how anti Zionism came to be.
I said what I said. If you don’t like it then maybe you have some thinking to do.
Also as another fucking reminder:
Stop fucking spreading vile antisemitic shit (and stop harassing Israel citizens) !!! This includes:
- blood libels
- organs harvesting
- holocaust denial
- “hitler was right”
- “gas the jews”
- lizard people
- “jews are rats”
- “jews are rich”
- “jews control the media”
- “jews are landlords”
- the majority of conspiracy theories
- Zionist occupied government
- Zionism is racism
- stop fucking reading protocols of the elders of Zion
- “from the river to the sea…” is a genocidal chant.
- stop calling Israel a “terrorist” state and stop saying that all Israelis are terrorist (people are not their fucking government)
(Just to list a few)
I said what I said and if you don’t like it- the doors over there.
Am yisrael chai! ✡️

there’s an interesting phenomenon, where the Great Replacement conspiracy theory, in online discourse, is only ever talked about as an anti-Semitic theory, completely bypassing the people who are the immediate subject. Yes, undoubtedly it has lead to anti-Semitic attacks, and for many proponents of the theory they do blame the jews, but in the very immediate they are blaming black and brown people for existing. Yes, there was a shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue, but there was also the Christchurch Mosque shooting, and it’s the latter that the far right celebrates far more widely, and has become the template for later attacks.
there are pro-zionist versions of the theory, ones that frame Israel as the bulwark against the barbarian hordes. the UK Tory party uses the spectre of islamic anti-Semitism as a reason to over-police Muslims. there are right wing jews who believe Muslims are invading Europe and America. Europeans are racist against black people very easily without blaming it on jews. if you can’t oppose those things without justifying it to yourself with ”actually they’re secretly being anti-Semitic about it” you don’t actually care about the people who concretely suffer.
