I love when hermits include armour stands in their builds and I headcanon it as a very intricate craft, creating the mannequin’s structure and their faces.
But I was also thinking about the faces that they choose…
A very overwhelming majority of armour stands on HermitCraft feature the other server member’s faces. Yknow how they say that when we see people in our dreams, it’s actually a face we’ve seen before because our brains are incapable of coming up with new ones?
I think a huge part of Minecraft in general is the loneliness. It’s not a bad loneliness, just the knowledge that you’re the only person in this infinite world. That’s a bit different in multiplayer servers because you see people and the things they create; but at the end of the day, HermitCraft only has 26 members and that’s not a lot of people.
Singleplayer survival worlds rarely feature armour stands as decoration. When they do, they use mob heads, because the player has never seen another human’s face.
I think there’s a ton of headcanon potential here. Something about Cleo spending hours learning how to sew/carve/paint another players face, then repeating that one face so many times it’s second nature. Teaching that technique to Scar, who seems to know exactly how to pose the mannequin frames to make them look alive (there’s definitely some elf magic involved). Tango creating his own armour stands with conductive materials so he can hook them up to redstone.
I just loove worldbuilding and unique crafts and minecraft’s lonely atmosphere… I’d love to hear some other peoples headcanons about armour stands!
y’know generally i try to limit colour palettes to as few colours as possible to make things more cohesive but despite my best efforts only jay ended up being able to stick to that </3
ANYWAYS here’s the as-of-right-now fully updated designs for these dickheads. these will no doubt undergo even more tweaking as i draw them more but this is a start i guess. also pls open the pictures to look at them properly i worked so hard LOL
some random notes under the cut yaaaay
chip —
he jingles when he walks. somehow he’s still stealthy. i do not know how
kept the platinum ring that bonded him to gillion in the block! because hey he doesn’t really have a reason to take it off (and it’s a nice reminder of how much gill cares about him, and how far their friendship has come since that ice arena)
his tattoos shift and flicker like actual flames, and sometimes (harmless, purely aesthetic) sparks fly off them when he’s excited
i just think smoke coming out of his mouth when he’s angry would be cool :]
chipped teeth from biting rocks and coins all the time :/
he has scars from the red lightning, they’re just mostly contained to his back and shoulders. they’re a similar red to his coat even once they’ve healed
gillion —
the tail sleeve thing is so he can rest it on the ground without damaging his scales, he doesn’t usually wear it when he’s just on the ship because the wood is soft enough that it’s usually fine + it can hinder swimming a bit. it’s mostly meant for places where there’s cobblestone or gravel streets and such. i think his armour would probably have a version that looks similar but covers the whole tail minus the fins, maybe with some armour plating of its own. i didn’t draw it because there wasn’t any room lol
his scars from the lightning are pink mostly because red stood out too much tbh. they softly glow in the dark the same as his coral and the pink parts of his fins
also kept his ring! his hands aren’t really made for jewellery, though, because the webbing means it won’t sit very secure on his finger. so he keeps it on the same chain as the necklace he got from aslana to keep it safe
tried to make him look a bit bulkier and more his age than in my original design? i feel like i was leaning too much into the naivety and. shortness. originally lol. he also has thicker eyebrows now and i’m still trying to decide how i feel about them but i think? i like it? i don’t tend to give many character thin eyebrows so it could’ve been a unique thing for him but alas
i think i made the sword too small but like ignore that
also forgor to include pretzel </3 that’s okay though she can get her own design sheet later. she’s special like that
jay —
i believe in tall jay supremacy
blue magic! i was considering gold but that’d look a bit more like a canary than i wanted for her wings so. blue jay :]
her hair is supposed to look kinda like fire to mimic her dad ! kinda showing that even if she runs from her family and the navy they’ll always be a part of her. and also i just like drawing messy hair
i gave her sturdier gloves just because i feel like it fits her better. also changed up the shirt to more of a button up solely because i don’t like tank tops very much LOL
i did WANT to make her outfit a bit flashier to match the boys better but i couldn’t quite figure out where to Put the flash. maybe that’ll come later, the way the story’s going i might get to design some cool prosthetics for her or something
overall —
because there’s just so many fucking colours i triiied to add at least one or two colours from each of them into the others designs. jay has her necklace with each of their main colours on it, her wings are the same blue as gillions eyes, her jacket and right eye are the same dark blue as destiny’s blade, her hair is the same orange as the lighter part of chips tattoos. chip has a dark green sash under all the belts, the same as the hilt of destiny’s blade. they all use the same shades of black, gold, and brown
the only real exception is gillion doesn’t have anything from the other two because he has Such a specific colour palette and he already had so much going on as-is orz jay was obviously the easiest to do this with because she has both warm and cool colours in her palette by default lol (and i did her design last, so that helps)
I just want Megatron to be able to have an ultimate power usage with his fusion canon that takes basically all of his energy to use in exchange for one (1) massive and long blast of energy that’s impossible to survive but Megatron’s cost is that he could die if not tended to immediately after using it
HELLO! I just wanted to share this art work that I've commissioned from @adrienwithane. A pleasure to work with for sure, and I don't even have enough words in my vocab to express just how much I love how it turned out.
I will never get over how much I adore this. Never. Julian was so accommodating with my requests, and also helped me come up with the over all look after giving a description of what the gist of the piece would be. They both look so precious. Listen, Reiner being cared for and pampered albeit scolded a bit for carelessness will always be my guilty pleasure.
But also I do like me some Honorary Marleyan/Eldian x Marleyan agenda dhfsjkdf
Y'all should definitely check out Julian's works here on tumblr but also on Patreon.
We are NOT talking enough about Lady Galvin shielding Sophie with her cape. something something choosing Sophie over her status, despite the explosion, something something end of the book when Lady Galvin wants to pass her. ough.
This feels a little bit cheeky, but you're probably the best-qualified person I have any idea how to get in touch with. Do you have any advice for displaying swords? I'm having my room redecorated and I don't really want to just screw a bunch of hooks into the newly-repainted walls. (I have six, ranging in size from a ~5ft two-handed thing to a small gladius.) Thanks in advance!
How about a floor (or counter / table / sideboard) stand? Like any display rack, make sure its uprights are close enough together to take short stuff like a gladius; bigger swords will be no problem.
Martial arts stores are usually a good place to examine these things IRL, however in the meanwhile here are a couple of examples sourced from this Sword Encyclopedia article.
Here's one from Kult of Athena:
This one is from Reliks:
Most of the racks in those pics are 4-sword and 8-sword; for six swords, you could park something else in the spare slots; a Kingsman-style brolly, for example (not guaranteed bulletproof)...
Or a walking stick that just happens to be a real Irish fighting shillelagh.
Or an umbrella combining the best of both worlds - this one is a "solid stick", which means exactly what it says:
The umbrella mechanism is mounted onto, not in, the stick, giving considerable sturdiness when fending off... Really heavy rain, yes, that's it. And there's no need whatsoever to sharpen the ferrule; a good half-sword grip is more than enough for... Downpours.
Alternately you could get two 3-slot racks, for opposite sides of the room, perhaps?
There's also this sixer from Amazon which, if you're non-Zon, a bit of research might find elsewhere.
Finally if you're up for a bit of carpentry and wood-staining, you could make and fit home-made floor / table feet to a wall rack; several look well suited to this.
So me and my friend @golubayasoyka have started building the magnus institute in Minecraft. We are using this map from reddit with a few deviations
From there we decided to build the bottom floor first with these amazing computers (built by me)
But here's a tour I did while it was mostly done. Missing a few details the trapdoor by the entrance, and the stairs weren't finished but those come later
youtube
We then added stairs "to the next floor" we are making this all separate as it's easier to build complex things that way.
At this point soyka had to come off and I did the second floor, the entrance, mostly by myself with help from a couple friends with pallets and the like. This is where I deviated from the floorplan above have the reception at the beginning while leaving places like the librarians office and admin/hr.
I then worked to the walls and the smaller rooms. Such as the librarians office pictured below
Then as the last thing for now I started the roof and lighting, since this is to be built in survival I used frog lights which I can just make a farm for.
That's all for now we will keep you all updated and maybe release a world download if people want it
is the art gallery piece meant to be in an art gallery in s2, or is it meant to be a later era w/ reincarnation/immortal hermes/something? i think it's probably meant to be s2, but the phrasing of the caption is messing with me a little, so i'm not sure. also that piece is so good and the caption hits the heart, i really like the way the light is implied to be shining on hermes' face
Aw yeah!! Okay so my idea with the painting is that it’s up in a gallery in Sanctuary, and it’s one of the paintings made by my sona—when Pixlriffs put that blue painting of mine up in the Museum he said it was “on loan from the Mythical Sausage collection” and was painted by me. And since my sona is a canon character in Sanctuary, I decided in my own head that they’re a resident artist in Sanctuary and they have a studio where they obsessively paint Santa Perla over and over because, y’know, that’s what I’ve been doing irl 😆
The painting is of Saint Pearl cradling a dying old man and giving him peace. Since Saint Pearl was a religious figure in Sausage’s old kingdom— Sausage said they called her the Sunflower Goddess—I figured that all the lore he dropped about her bringing an old man to the Afterlife (smp) herself would’ve been one of the myths of the old kingdom, something my sona would be familiar with. What they and the other residents of Sanctuary don’t know is that the old man in the myth was, in canon, Sausage in a past life! So in the narrative here, that painting exists because my sona painted a myth about Saint Pearl and ended up painting e1!Sausage without even realizing it.
Hermes, though, is the son of a god, and so he’s connected to the divine already. So when he sees the painting in the gallery he’s taken with it—some part of him recognizes the spark of truth in the myth. The blanket draped on old man Sausage is blue—and so is the sleeve on the arm taking Hermes through the gallery, connecting them. Current Sausage is the one walking with him. Hermes can’t put their finger on it, but the old man in the painting is familiar to him. Cause it’s his papa! :D That’s why the light is shining on him like that—it’s their epiphany, their connection with the divine and their father’s past.
Another fun fact about my sona: they’re older than Sausage by nearly a decade! Someday I will draw them in their studio, hair greying, surrounded by canvases covered in sunflowers.
kazazel is extremely pretty and ofc I love how purple and shiny he is but one of my fave details is actually how the chest scar is still there and actually looks way rougher in texture than everything around it
