Imagine....
....an AU where Aru never lit the lamp, and subsequently never learned about the Otherworld and who she really is
I had to write down the idea and it somehow evolved into.... this
In this AU our lovely heroine is around 14-15, and living life as a loner, because after she refused to light the lamp that fateful day, she got labeled a liar and no one wanted to hang out with her
Her mom is also away on business trips, more so than ever because she’s getting more and more desperate to find the artifact that will help her keep both her daughter and her husband
So now she’s kind of like a jaded, cynical version of herself- she avoids attention like it’s one of those rats-with-wings (pigeons) and has loads of trust and family issues because hero(in)es with angst are close to my heart it’s only expected with her childhood and upbringing
Another thing worth mentioning: because her mother didn’t tell her anything about the Otherworld, she becomes the only Pandava unaware of who they really are (meaning all the rest have been claimed and instated as one of the heroes)
So because the Sleeper was never released, he can’t be the villain, and this leaves the role open for someone I wish we’d seen more of- Takshaka (I kinda hate him, but I feel like his arc, especially his hate of Arjuna and Indra in particular, is really interesting and something that could’ve been expanded on more in the books)
Istg y'all I have so many thoughts about this-
Should I write this out? I kinda wanna write this out

Aiden, annoyed: Groovy, I hate it.
Mini, just as annoyed: If she breathes, she’s a square.
---
Mini: What does 'take out' mean?
Brynne: Food.
Aiden: Dating
Rudy: Murder
Aru: IT CAN MEAN ALL THREE IF YOU'RE NOT A COWARD.
---
Aru: Poison is a magic transmutation potion that turns people into corpses.
Mini: This knife is actually a magic wand.
Brynne: Meet me in the Denny’s parking lot for a wizard duel.

Aru, sipping coffee happily: I love you too :)
---
Hira: Being gay is a constant battle between "I wish to sit on a window bench with my lover, our legs tangling as we listen to the birds" and "Hey, let's go throw rocks at fascists" and I think that's very sexy of us.
Brynne: If the window's open and you time it right, you can do both.
---
Aiden: I truly go into housewife mode when I'm someone's soulmate- like, I'll make you pancakes and bacon every morning.
Aru: This is a lie.
Aru: I'm literally dating them. This is a lie.
Aru: THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO COOK A PANCAKE, WHAT IS THIS.
---
Brynne: Ugh, there’s always that weak bitch in the group who isn’t down with murder.
Brynne: *glares at Mini*
Mini: Well, sorry I have morals!

Aru Shah, as a series, is beautifully crafted
Apart from being one of the rare books where you actually get the "villain's" perspective, it has great humor, characters who actually have realistic flaws, and another great genre with barely any representation: Indian mythology.
The first initials of the names of the Pandava sisters is the same as their adjacent Pandava brothers. Aru- Arjun, Yamini- Yudhishthira, Brynne- Bhima, Nikita- Nakul and Sheela- Sahadeva. Details, which, Roshani took care of amazingly.
Coming to the last book. NoI. The scene with the Uber driver, Krishna, was a direct parallel to a very famous scene from Mahabharata, where Arjuna stands on a chariot looking at the opposite army, which consists mainly of his family, and feeling apprehensive about fighting them. Then Krishna, who is his chariot driver, steps in and explains to him his dharma.
The conversation that took place between them is recorded in the Bhagvad Gita, the sacred book of Hindus.
This series is an exemplary attempt at inducing diversity in the whitewashed world of fiction books and I hope it continues to make a difference in lives like it did to mine.

imagine the friendship between aru and mini's brother (let's call him raj, short for yaduraj)
like it's canon that raj loves teasing/playing pranks on mini, and aru literally lives for mini's annoyed face
imagine the pranks, the jokes. they are partners in crime.
raj and aru become honorary siblings. like aru jokingly calls him bhai, (or anna for fellow south indians!!) and he gets very protective over her- questioning her about boys, threatening to fight anyone who looks at her funny, etc.
idk it just gives me Feelings
(also brynne and raj?? raj canonically likes guys- imagine them helping each other with coming out to their respective parents/guardians??)

Hello! You have been gifted the brain dump bug! Use when you want an excuse to talk about something that's been rotating in your brain!
Thank you for the gift 😊
Um ok, one thing that I've been thinking about a lot is Kara Shah. I love her so much and I feel like she deserves so much better
1. My girly does not deserve the hate. Like I get that she got in the way of Aruden but she just has a crush on a boy! And Aiden is an awesome guy, if he was real I'd probably have a crush on him too! And Aru never told her about her crush, so she didn't know! It's a Rachel/Percy thing. "But she worked with the sleeper!" Well that leads into my next point.
2. Kara was manipulated like crazy. Despite the fact the Sleeper cared about her, he still tricked her, erased her memory and used her! She had no idea what she wanted, because all she knew was lie, after lie. (No hate for Suyodhana tho, I can see his angle as well)
3. She never felt worthy. Throughout the entire series, Kara did everything possible to be useful and an ally to everyone, just to feel worthy of their affection. She wanted to make the right decision every time just to be deserved of love. I can't count the times she talks about wanting to help
4. She lost her family. After everything she went through, Kara was never whole. She either lost her step parents, or lost her soul-sisters. She never got to live and embrace who she was entirely.
5. She's a cinnamon roll bookworm. I must protect her at all costs.
Thank you for listening to my ted talk
