How do you think the universe will end?

Well, we know there's some sort of cosmic collision coming, either the Big Crunch, the Big Freeze, or some other "Big [__]" that I can't think of right now.

An infinite universe is unbounded, so it should expand forever, but the universe is very roughly flat right now, so eventually the attractive centers of gravity will overtake the repulsive force of the expanding universe and everything will start to collapse again.

Of course, scientists still don't know a whole lot about dark energy and the amount of matter in the universe and the speed of the universe's expansion and shit like that. But it's still a really fascinating subject and that's why I bought a book about it for my birthday last year.

This friendly face is caused by strong gravitational lensing! The two yellow galaxies that make up the eyes are much closer to us than the blue one that's become the smile! When the light from the blue galaxy passes the yellow galaxies, their gravity bends and warps it into the arc that we see here! Studying gravitational lenses like this is a great way for astronomers to measure the mass of the foreground galaxies - in this case, the eyes! There's a lot of other things you can do with gravitational lensing, but my favorite part is knowing I can look up at the sky and smile, and that the universe is smiling back!

How is Pearl doing? I hope she’s recovering well

Pearl is a remarkable little lady. She's back to normal! Running around, being naughty, laying eggs, screaming for no reason. It's like she didn't get a massive hole ripped in her neck. Thankfully she seems to have healed up fine and without infection. She won't let us grab her to check though.

She's a crazy little girl and I am so grateful she's doing good. I love that little weirdo.
