Some random BoBoiBoy thing
You're telling me BoBoiBoy isn't his real name?!?! I always thought that was his name
Anyone play the BoBoiBoy card game? I remember when they first release the first pack (pek adiwira), BoBoiBoy Solar and Kaizo (if I'm not mistaken) is the most powerful card there is
Speaking of the Boboiboy card game, I like that some recent pack contain artwork using the comic style and not all a 3d render. I also like that they show what card that each pack contain so you don't get to have double
Anyone remember the first comic that use hand-drawn (?) style? I want to try reading it but I can only find no. 3,4,5,6. The other three volume (1,2,7) I can find is expensive (come on, RM100+??????).
I also remember that the first issues of the Boboiboy comic, all using the 3d render, also the fact that they have some random 4-koma that I'm sad that they don't add with the Galaxy S2 comic
I also plan to read Galaxy S2 comic but that's going to take a while since the total is more than (RM165) considering the fact that the bundle is sold out (somehow?????)
I also recently read the Boboiboy Galaxy comic adaptation of the second movie. It's pretty good. I also remember that the first comic adaptation of the first movie always sold out in all stores
Good times
Oh yeah, Boboiboy Sopan I can't. The name is too funny

Hello! I wanted to post some designs for my versions of the PJO trio! For the sake of reference: Annabeth and Percy (in that order) are 19 and Grover is 32/16.
These designs are meant to be a fusion of their TLO and their HoO designs (Percy and Annabeth both have their new weapons but old hair and Grover's missing his Lord decor)
ANs Below! (idk if you need a spoiler warning if you're here but abandon all hope, ye who enter for there are secrets abound)
All of their colors were taken from their animal inspiration of choice (hence why everyone has a different shade of orange). The only one that had an added color was Percy because Skyrian horses don't have a shade of blue in them (despite their names)
Percy:
Since I'm already talking about Percy, given that everyone in a mile radius seems to have a crush on this teenage boy/ young man, he ends up being a bit of a badboy heartthrob (at least in appearance).
In this universe, Hera severs the connection between Percy and Riptide, causing her to not be able to return to Percy's pocket (and she can bond with a new wielder, but we'll come back to that). When he joins The Legion, they cut his hair significantly, brand him, and he eventually gains an imperial gold spatha (a massive Roman sword typically used by cavalry/ on horseback)
He and Annabeth keep the streaks of white they gained in The Titans Curse >:(. Percy also gains a new scar from Luke/ Kronos (mirroring his own).
Annabeth:
It was mentioned in The Hammer of Thor that Annabeth was noticeably growing her hair out which makes me think it was originally much shorter.
Since Athena is a virgin goddess and a goddess of the arts, I imagine that she and her siblings were sculpted in Athena's and their mortal parents' images and brought to life Galatea style as a gift to her favored. Annabeth was probably originally made of marble before being brought to life.
Annabeth originally wields the xiphos/ dagger Luke gave her and makes up for her lack of brute strength and speed with sneakiness (invisibility). Percy would teach her to use a sword and, when he goes missing and is presumed dead by the general Greek public, she wields Riptide (a makhaira), taking advantage of her hard-won skill and brutality, no longer hiding behind her cap.
Grover:
All of his shapes are so round <3 Beloved <3 His pose came out a little strange, but the ideas are all there.
He's considered part of the staff, being paid by the camp to be a Searcher for them (he uses his pay to fund his search for Pan when he's not looking for demigods).
His skirt mirrors the length of a male Greek chiton and he is both more comfortable in mortal clothing than other satyrs and pants are not suited for his leg shape (also just a little wink and nod at Zoe saying Grover's not a boy in TTC). He also loses the Rosta cap just after Battle of The Labyrinth as those horns will not fit bestie.
After becoming Lord of the Wild, Grover wears leaves and flowers in his hair and horns (there's definitely some juniper in there) as well as probably gaining a new outfit or potentially loosing clothes entirely.
Their Ages:
I decided that the reason all the campers are roughly the same age is because their powers develop roughly in line with Erik Erikson's Stages of Development. The gain power boosts at roughly 2, 6, 11, 18, 25, and 65 (if they live that long).
Grover found Percy when he was 11 but didn't bring him to camp until he was actually attacked by a monster when he was 13 (almost 14).
I decided to add a normal summer where there are no quests, and the Trio can just train in between TLT and SoM.
The Prophecy has been changed to 18 (when the Big Three demigod becomes an adult psychosocially).

My Thoughts/Kind of a Summary on "Katie's Yokai Butler"
This will all be from memory, so I apologize if some things are off, out of order, or otherwise incorrect `~` Edit Yomo here! I watched it about halfway through this but i have an awful memory ahhh! Anyways, screenshots n stuff might be included now! This'll basically be somewhat of a summary as well as a few observations I've made. Also, I'll be using the English names for characters! Keita is Nate, Fumi-chan is Katie, Warunyan is Baddinyan, so on so forth—☆
[SPOILERS AHEAD OBVIIIII]
Tumblr media
The alternative timeline in summary is basically if Katie had gotten the yokai watch instead of Nate. It's first (and last) anime mention to my knowledge is in the Season One episode "Katie's Yokai Butler" if my memory served correctly! The episode follows Whisper through his 'dream' in what is presumed to be a look into the alternate Whisper's life. After a little argument with Nate about his messy room, Whisp cream goes to bed upset. He first wakes up to the smell of roses, and quickly realizes he isn't where he should be. (Probably bc Nate's room smells like cheeto puffs/j) He looks around to find himself in Katie's room. ( >Д<;)
This brings us to the first major difference in this timeline; it takes place in Katie's house obviously! Makes sense since she got the watch instead of Nate >u○ Her room is a lot cleaner, and even appears to be more spacious than her male counterpart. That aside, Katie comes upstairs at some point to wake Whisper, to which he responds with confusion as to where he is and how she can see her. To this universe's Katie, she thinks he's acting strange. She pinches him upon request to make sure he's not dreaming, to which he didn't wake up. That confirms that!
Tumblr media
(* ̄∇ ̄)ノ
After a bit, Katie returns back downstairs when she hears her father calling her. This leads Whisper to wonder about another difference; the inclusion of Baddinyan. Besides the obvious fact of it not being Jibanyan, this also means Katie is probably going to interact with other yokai in a rather different manner than Nate! I say that because Nate met Roughraff in Season 1, Episode 3. He didn't even get Baddinyan's medal! (which sucks because that's one of my favorite yokai! Goofy little cat,,, °□°)
Tumblr media
Baddinyan's first appearance in the episode 💞🐛👾
If we're talking on all timeline differences—not just the ones in Katie's house—then the meeting with Roughraff might be a good point to bring up. Considering the fusion was involuntary in Nate's timeline, what happened in Katie's? Did they decide to stay fused after that for whatever reason, did Katie fuse them at a place like shonen temple (which doesn't exist in the anime I think >~>), or did something happen pre-canon for them to have became friends and fuse? Sometimes, a fusion can be in the same place as the yokai that fused them in the anime due to certain yokai like Baddinyan forming a separate consciousness from either original host ( 〃=▽=〃) (I probably sound like a huge dweeb rn </33) Maybe Katie said something to the newly existent Baddinyan to make him give her the medal, and thus hanging around her from now on!
After some vague threats at fighting Whisper from Baddinyan, the yokai butler in question wonders about who replaced Hidabat in the closet. He goes to open it leading us into our next difference; Shadow Venoct. There isn't much from me to say about this one to be honest, he doesn't have any lines except for maybe the hissing of his snake-scarf thingies hissing at Whisper (¤o¤|||. I've noticed that a lot of Katie's friends seem to be more powerful, or at least a higher rank than Nate's. [Ex: Shadow Venoct being S Rank, Baddinyan being B Rank, and another S Rank we'll get into later—!♡]
Sometime after that, Katie calls Whisper down to help her investigate the strange way her mother was acting. Whisper attempts to use the Yokai Pad to identify the yokai...although Katie swipes it away just as quickly. <°[O□o;]°> She says that Whisper (or this timeline's original version of...) promised to try and memorize the information instead. It seems un-Whisper like, but to be fair, alternate Whisper probably formed a different dynamic than the usual! She identifies the yokai with the watch, to which Whisper (discreetly uses the pad and) figures out it's Noway!
To deal with him, Katie said that she'd summon a special rare friend. This turns out to be Robonyan's timeline counterpart; Goldenyan! Upon asking the golden robot cat for help, he says that this was 'beneath' his capabilities and basically that his power shouldn't be wasted on it...; ̄Д ̄ Anyways, he leaves to the future and the episode ends with Katie using Whisper as a special attack against Noway, much to his dismay >u<. Oh, and it's revealed here that Whisper was dreaming.
Tumblr media
Although it may have been a "dream", I'm 99% sure that was a plot device to not have to script in 'Whisper going to another universe!!' to the episode and how he eventually gets back. I personally believe it would be cool to see a spin-off dedicated to something like this! There's Nyanderful Days I guesssss but that doesn't really count cuz it just has Whisper and Jibanyan and it's just inserting Katie into the og series plot (¬_¬) There's a lot of potential, and I'm sure viewers over here in the west and Japan would be happy to see our girl the the spotlight for once wwwwww. Maybe it'd also be an opportunity to have McKraken put into the anime? Hint hint? That, as well as several yokai who might not have been seen by Nate due to him going different places as Katie, hanging out with different people, etc! Anyways, that's all for now!

Aaaaah, I love stuff like this, thank you!
Tagged by: @copperarsenite
Tagging: @feeisamarshmallow @allonsymiddleearth @iceberg-hootenanny (and basically anyone who wants to, honestly)
rules: post the first lines of up to 10 of your last fics/chapters posted on ao3 or your wips and try to draw some conclusions.
I'm going with fics in general, not chapters (because otherwise it would be entirely Satisfaction), and probably sticking to VM fic because all the Tolkien stuff I've posted recently has been crossposting. So last five posted and last five WIPs worked on. :)
(Also, warning that the second-last sentence has a racial slur (used by a character.))
Satisfaction
Veronica’s dad was the sheriff, so she was usually pretty scrupulous about not breaking the law.
Flipping the Script
All Jade wanted was to get her mother’s car and drop it off with enough time to get to the library before it closed, and since the library was open late on Thursdays and she’d stopped to pick it up at 4 PM, it hadn’t seemed that difficult.
Unexpected Dividends
It was probably weird to run a to-do list for your boss in your head, but Eli had been doing it since his second month on the job, because Fred was competent, and reasonably organized, and obviously he was a hell of a mechanic, but his ability to prioritize was a little bit whacked out.
The Most Important Part
“Hot date?”
The Art of Starting Over
It turned out that calling your sort-of boyfriend after a whole week and a half of radio silence was daunting.
Choices (upcoming post S4 oneshot)
Jade grew up in San Diego.
Hunger Games AU for 'X universes Veronica didn't grow up in'
I didn’t sleep well, the night before the Reaping.
untitled WIP (zombie non-AU, post-S4)
Veronica made it home for the end of the world.
Carmen for 'Would've, Could've, Should've' (pending oneshot series)
Yesterday, Carter Phelps shoved Carmen into the stair railing and called her a wetback, like her parents swam all the way here from Venezuela.
Circle of Magic AU for 'X universes Veronica didn't grow up in'
The first time the Guard caught Weevil breaking into a rich man’s house, they tattooed an X on the web of skin between his thumb and first finger and threw him into a cell for the night.
*
So for the obvious – I favour third person (which I knew), and I’m a bit heavier on female POVs than I anticipated (which I’m pleased with, actually). Also very Jade-heavy, and since I’m already 50% of the Jade/Eli tag on AO3, that doesn’t exactly shock me.
(It’s not immediately obvious for all of them, but every single one of these is Weevil-heavy, which is the most unshocking thing possible. I think I have exactly one VM fic in progress where he’s not central to the entire premise, and even there he’s still majorly present.)
Other than that, the closest thing to a trend that I can pick up is that apparently I like opening sentences that feel either dynamic or relatable? Satisfaction and the post-canon zombie fic both have the more classic hook of raising questions about what’s going on, and most of the JEC fics as well as Carmen’s WCS entry are an attempt to jump you right into the characters’ heads or at least their social reality. Whereas the fusion AUs seem to establish their crossover-fandom immediately (THG with an immediate reference to a well known part of that universe, and COM by heavily echoing Briar’s introductory sentence). I don’t know if I did it on purpose, but I like it, so I’ll have to see how much/if that holds true for the other ones in the series. (The BTVS and Animorphs ones are harder, because they involve discovering something, but the summary of the latter will definitely start with My name is Veronica…, and the 1-800-WHERE-R-U one starts with a direct shout-out.)
Anyway! I’d be interested to know if there’s anything that strikes you. :)

anyone wanna hear a wrong theory?
Hello! It's the girl reading TLT wrong again!
I was thinking I might as well go over why I'm convinced that Gideon is possessing the sword. I do this acknowledging fully and readily that I'm probably more than half wrong, but I think my reasoning is fairly solid so for my own posterity and other's enjoyment, let's go.
(evidence at hand: Gideon The Ninth up till they first make planetfall and sunglasses get pulled out. Assorted osmosis tidbits. Harrow The Ninth up till mid chapter 21)
First, why I think the sword's haunted:
Look, nothing that wants to be bathed in arterial blood, casts the evil eye over entire rooms, and has an incredibly traumatized girl protecting it from thieves isn't haunted. I'm sorry, that's the rules. Additionally, this book made a point early on to make sure we knew how revenants work. You don't put these things next to each other if you don't want an audience to link them.
Second, why I think it's Gideon in there:
We're told three things that naturally get haunted by revenants: people they cared about, grave goods (stuff they cared about in life), and their murder weapons. If it's Gideon, at least two of these things are very readily available. Harrow, and her own two-hander. If there was actually a two-hander in the Sleeper's coffin (which I really doubt), that potentially becomes three things. If there was actually a Sleeper, anyways.
Now, I *do* suspect that Harrow's possessed. The second person perspective in the main timeline is incredibly suspicious, since it implies that while she's answering to "Harrowhark Nonagesimus" and is seemingly attached enough to the name to make its use a major element in probably-banging Ianthe, she isn't *actually calling herself that in her head.* Of course, given all the "reborn as myself" stuff and how incredibly messed up her life in general and during the events of this book specifically are, she might also just be dissociated as hell.
Besides, as a lyctor, she's clearly *supposed* to be possessed by her cavalier. And however the process of taking a loved one for parts and an auto defense system actually goes, it's obviously went funky as all get out with her.
It seems like a cavalier is supposed to be their lyctor's sword, at least on a metaphorical level. Knightly service, the godking calling his lyctors his fingers, and them apparently being supposed to turn into a lyctor's limbic system during the fusion. This being a very literal "hey, you're Her Sword now, have fun!" Situation is a logical extreme of that, and would probably piss Gideon off to no end at the beginning of the book. Of course, I know that GtN is a romance, so there's a non-zero chance that this has changed, which only makes it funnier.
Whoever it is playing Transistor at Harrow, Harrow has some *strong* feelings about it. They mostly aren't positive, but she's still incredibly, INCREDIBLY attached to her sword in often very literal ways. That implies it's someone she at least used to know.
Lastly, other people it might be:
Any weapon from the Ninth is gonna be a hand me down, and Ortus the Lyctor clearly super, SUPER wants it. Perhaps it's somebody he used to know?
I'd suspect Evil Femme Jesus, but it seems like she can get around just fine without being a hunk of metal, and Harrow has a pretty different feeling relationship with her that predates the sword owning.
A Memory of a Much Lesser Self? Harrow's clearly got a couple of those floating around...

Morlock Revisionism - The Time Machine, HG Wells
Yes, it's a books post. Haven't had one of these for a while, have we?
By random chance, I happened to find myself re-reading Wells's "The Time Machine" last night. I enjoyed re-visiting it. It's a story that's stood up surprisingly well, considering a) its age and b) its de facto (if not quite de jure) status as the trope-creator for the time travel story.
First off, one interesting aspect is that it does not bother with the modern trope of the time paradox, really, at all. The Time Traveller never considers whether his own actions may affect the future that he discovers in the year 802, 701 (or, indeed, the later ones that he encounters further into the narrative).
As a scientific note, it's worth commenting that the astronomy in the story is deeply dated - the story was written before the discovery of nuclear fusion, so the implicit framework is that the Sun is powered through Kelvin-Helmholtz contraction. It's not. The Sun of 30 million years hence would not display the dramatic changes that the Time Traveller observes. (Also the "large and red" Sun of 30 Million AD should have roasted the Time Traveller to death, as luminosity increases with the surface area of a star. That future shouldn't be frozen, it should be burning!)
One aspect of the narrative that stands out is that the Time Traveller - actually by his own admission! - may be an unreliable narrator. He specifically-notes that his initial theory about the world of 802,701 AD was disproven by events there, and there may be an implication that he's wrong about other conclusions too.
Could he be wrong … about the Morlocks? Are they actually the monsters the narrative paints them as? Let's have a look at what evidence we possess.
First off, most of what we know about the world of 802,701 AD is canonically-speculative in nature. Weena and the Eloi seem to know little-to-nothing about their history and origins. In his time in the deep future, the Traveller finds no interpretable written records. Even his sojourn at the museum offers only a few clues - and as we'll discuss later, some of them may actually conflict with his interpretations. (The presence of the matches and the camphor, in particular, is a bit suspect.)
The Time Traveller is a human being like the rest of us, and he comes from a particular cultural context, namely late-Victorian England. It would be naive to assume that none of this had had an effect on his world-view or how he interprets what he sees. And some of his conclusions … well, they did read to me a bit like what a very stereotypical moustache-twirling Nineteenth Century imperialist might settle on, you know?
Notably, the Traveller severely under-estimates the intelligence of the Morlocks. See the events near the end of the story, where they leave the doors to the sphinx-structure open and the Time Machine itself on display, clearly intending to bait him in. They're able to determine what he's looking for, where he will go to look for it and are able to impute his likely actions. And they're right about all of it. The only reason their plan failed was that they apparently didn't understand the Time Machine's user interface (if they'd noticed the slots for the missing levers…) The Morlocks apparently also have at least some control over the world's remaining machinery, they're presumably the source of what manufactured goods the Eloi have and it's also implied that whatever maintenance occurs aboveground is done by them.
Whatever else they may be, the Morlocks aren't idiots.
Contrast this to the Eloi, who bathe in a dangerous body of water, post no watches at night and make no effort to save one of their own (Weena) when she gets swept away by a stray current! The Eloi also apparently make no effort to maintain the "big houses" in which they reside. They seem to have no writing or material culture, and not even that much in the way of speech; the Traveller specifically-notes the limited character of their language. Their faculties clearly are the more restricted. (It's worth noting that even the Time Traveller himself concedes this point.)
Are the Morlocks the monsters that the Time Traveller sees them as? The narrative clearly wants you to follow his conclusions … but, I do find myself wondering about that. I mean, by his own admission, some of his deductions were false. Could other conclusions be false too, or incomplete?
Let's consider the evidence, or at least the evidence that we have.
First off, the proposed Eloi-phagy. Do we really see an unambiguous depiction of this in the narrative? The closest we get to it is what the Traveller thinks he sees in the Morlock tunnels … except it's only a brief glimpse, while a single match flares, seen from a distance, and even he doesn't sound absolutely-sure of what he thought he saw. He's also in a distressed, confused and distracted state of mind at the time, will not have helped with making clear and factual observations. Did he actually see a butchered Eloi, or could it have been some other animal? For all we know, he just blundered into a Morlock operating theatre while in the middle of surgery! Everything about that would be consistent with the evidence in the text!
It's also worth noting that the Traveller is openly-biased against the Morlocks. He describes them in language which, let's be blunt about it, would be considered unambiguously-racist if applied to a modern human population. He takes one look at the Morlocks and decides they just must be bad 'uns, and everything else seems to flow from that assertion.
(Also, well, "Victorians making wild accusations of cannibalism" is a thing with an extensive and dark history, you know?)
Lastly, the "Eloi as lunch, dinner and elevenses" hypothesis has a bit of an ecological issue. There are far too many Morlocks and not remotely enough Eloi. Eloi are slow to mature, small in stature and lacking in substantial muscle mass. They're just not good cattle. If Weena's accident in the stream is any guide, they're also prone to randomly-dying in very stupid accidents, which could only make farming them even harder. It just doesn't make sense for the Morlocks to be eating them, unless Eloi steak is perhaps a rare delicacy that they consume in small amounts every other year, or something.
As to the Morlock's supposed hostility, well, did they ever actually do anything that bad? They steal the Time Machine, though you could argue that perhaps its owner shouldn't have simply left it lying around. (What a litter bug!) Then the Traveller himself climbs down into their territory without seeking invitation - by our standards, he's literally a tresspasser, so it's probably no wonder the Morlocks were alarmed! And honestly, a lot of their behaviour toward him could be interpreted as more "curious" than "hostile".
Next there's his use of the matches. The Morlocks are clearly harmed by it - the light hurts their eyes, and the fire apparently scares them. (As well it should - if you live in an enclosed underground tunnel, fire is bad news!) From their point of view, he's a weird, gangling, threatening invader from the surface world who suddenly appeared one day, and whose intent is entirely unknown. He shows no concern for their territory and is cavalier in his use of fire. Viewed in that light it's unsurprising that the Morlocks would be uneasy around him!
(On a small side-note, one thing I've wondered about is whether Morlock vision is actually now in the infrared. Their tunnels appear a little too dark even for very sensitive eyes - they're not dim, they're pitch-black! - and the effects of the matches and the later wildfires seem a bit too much even for sensitive eyes. On the other hand, if the Morlocks had evolved to see heat, they wouldn't need artificial lighting - your body would be self-luminous! you are your own reading lamp! -, and it would explain why the matches were so debillitating.)
The Time Traveller also makes no attempt to communicate with the Morlocks, despite their canonically-clear higher level of intelligence. He views them as nothing except a monstrous enemy. It's a very, well, Victorian sort of attitude, isn't it? Of course there's nothing that the moustache-twirling imperialist could ever learn from the lowly and degenerate natives!
There are two further pieces of evidence for the "Morlocks are evil" hypothesis. One is the lack of sick or elderly Eloi. But here the narrative contradicts itself somewhat, as the Traveller also believes that the future world is largely free of pestilence. If dangerous microorganisms had been eradicated, then of course there are not many sick Eloi! As to the lack of elderly ones, well, Weena's river misadventure may offer some clues. The Eloi apparently have little in the way of self-preservation instincts, so one does wonder what the accidental death-rate for them is. It could be high. Perhaps he doesn't see any elderly Eloi because they don't usually make it to a recognisable senescent state, but through accident and misadventure rather than via Morlock celebrity chefs.
The other item of evidence is the Eloi's collective fear of night, and moonless nights in particular. The narrative suggests - though, never actually clearly shows us - that these are the times when Morlocks go small-game hunting. They're apparently able to get in and out of the "big houses" without ever waking up the Eloi and apparently reliably know where to find the Eloi. (Not wanting to victim-blame here, obviously, but the Eloi could consider maybe posting some sentries, and perhaps varying where they sleep … I mean, they're not short of half-abandoned buildings, right?)
But are the Morlocks necessarily the source of the Eloi's fear of the dark? Could it be something else, like perhaps their tendency to have dumb accidents, or randomly getting lost? (Case-in-point re: the latter, on the final night Weena apparently ran off on her own at some point, which is less-than-clever.) As for Weena's unease around the wells, you do have to wonder how many Eloi have managed to have a a "tripped and fell" moment while playing a bit too close to the lip of the well. Weena is actually implied to be one of the smarter Eloi - she shows some curiosity toward the Traveller, and is seemingly willing to consider visiting parts of the outside world - and even she does questionably-smart things like leaning right over the lip of the well while the Traveller climbs down. I mean, this is sounding like the opening-lines of an official report into a bad accident, isn't it?
I will allow that the Morlocks certainly should have paid more attention to health-and-safety in the design of their access-wells, which honestly do seem to basically be death-traps. However, some of this can be ascribed to negligence and laziness rather than actual malice-aforethoughht-level capital-E evil.
The Time Traveller posits that the Eloi and Morlocks emerged from a socio-economic divergence within the original human population, one that eventually became so extreme that it resulted in an actual speciation event. Essentially, the upper and lower classes ended up not merely socially-isolated from each other, but genetically-isolated too. I believe this conclusion more than I believe the Morlock cannibalism allegations, but I still have some problems with it.
1) To produce an actual speciation event, the separation of the social classes would have to persist for an enormous length of time - presumably, at least a few thousand years - and would also have to have been enforced more rigorously than even the most extreme real-world caste system. Is it really plausible that a system like this could have remained stable for the required timescales? That there were no cross-caste romances or "accidental" pregnancies, ever? That all genetic mixing across social boundaries came to a hard, permanent stop? (Contrast this with the real-world behaviour of some Victorian "gentlemen" toward their servants, and, well … yeaaaaah. Eeeek.)
2) Would the economic system implied by all of the above even have been stable in the first place? Can you really erect a non-prous, binary wall between "producers" and "consumers"? In the real world, the two groups are also made up of exactly the same people. (Consider - you have a job, but you also buy stuff. Both are you.) Were there really never any movements for social reform, no civil rights legislation, no uprisings, civil wars, general strikes or any of the other social chaos that usually overwhelm any proposed social planning? The proposed binary divergence of society implies deliberate central organisation dwarfing anything even the Soviet Union attempted, and it's notable that Soviet central planning was ultimately a failure.
The proposed social divide would have been so extreme that I can't see how it could be maintained without a deliberate and organised program of violent enforcement by a strong State, rather than the kind of emergent phenomenon that the Time Traveller seems to think it was. (The only thing the Traveller sees that might - might! - be evidence for this would be the extensive displays of weapons he found while at the ruined museum.)
3) Also, where does agriculture fit into this schema? Agricultural labour is usually considered low social status, but as plants need sunlight, by definition it has to occur aboveground. Is there an aboveground population of farmer-descended Morlocks out there somewhere? In fairness I suppose there could be - the Time Traveller only visits a small area based around what's no longer outer London, after all. (The "modern" Eloi population appears to subsist on edible plants, which are apparently abundant and near-universal in their surroundings. It's suggested that the origins of these plants were artificial, at some point in the past. While these have presumably supplanted agriculture by the year 802,701, nonetheless there must have been a time when they didn't exist, so they don't get us away from the "Morlock workers in the fields" problem.)
4) There is some implication in the text, actually, that the speciation event may have been more recent than the Time Traveller thinks. Consider all the fossil buildings he finds in the area surrounding his arrival-point. The Eloi clearly didn't build them, and given the Morlocks' troubles with daylight, it seems doubtful that they did either. However, someone must have erected these structures, and it can't have been that long ago - most of them still have their roofs! Even allowing for possible super-advanced future construction techniques, I can't see them as being more than a few thousand years old at absolute most, not hundreds of thousands of years. Honestly, they're probably even younger than that. (Significantly, when the Traveller visits the ruined museum, there seems to be an implication that it was restocked not too long ago. When he finds the camphor and the matches, even he notes the oddity that they are still usable!)
So in summary, while the Time Traveller's account of the year 802,701 is entertaining, I don't think I believe his social biology. And actually, this is one of the strengths of this novel - while it suggests a surface-level narrative, it actually is surprisingly open to alternate readings. Who knows, perhaps this was even what Wells intended (he does, after all, take some pains to remind us that the Time Traveller was not right about everything).

day three of my mini advent posting with this leverage and star trek fusion! all aboard the USS Harland-03. i have this posted on ao3 as well, where i also have started a series which i plan to post art (and potentially fic??). this pic obviously uses a ref pic from the series for the background and their positions.
on ao3 and in the cut below, i have included my headcanons for au. i think it would be easier to read on ao3, but here it is if you don't wanna leave the site!
→ USS Harland-03: A small vessel retrofit from a Miranda-class ship with one of the most diverse executive crew in Starfleet, both in terms of species and in terms of work backgrounds, done as somewhat of an experiment to see the speed of integration of highly skilled civilians into command posts. Its primary assignments are those concerning diplomacy and investigation into reports of corruption (the two unsurprisingly go hand in hand). The team is given a lot of leeway in order to get their jobs done. Or, rather, what the Admiralty doesn't know won't hurt them. The team does great and consistent work, and maybe some of it is not how the Starfleet usually operates. But the crew knows what needs to be done, and they got the skills for shenanigans and a little just a little a little a lot of conning and forging and manipulation.
→ Captain Nate F'Ordai (Vulcan): Captain. Birth name: *waves it off, because Nate only wants to use his Standard-friendly name.* He was born on the Vulcan colony, Kethri, to a father who was unscrupulous and underhanded and a scammer; Nate learned early on that Vulcans? Yeah they can lie and they can act all sorts of ways if they want to. He tried to reform himself as he got older, moving to K'Lan-ne on T'Khasi (aka, Vulcan the planet). Logic served him well, and he worked logically at an insurance firm that worked with clients of primarily Vulcan and Human clients, and he found logical reasons to bond with T'Pymhagi ("Mhaggie"), and they had a child: Sammi. For his work, he traveled across the quadrant a lot, leading a crew of ten. Nate spent a logical amount of extracurricular time with a particular colleague, Sterr-Lng (NOT a friend). Everything was reasonable and logical and great until Sammi got sick. Nate had done everything right and yet his son died and that sucked. He got lost and angry, and he and Mhaggie separated, and Nate decided on a chocolate-induced whim to join Starfleet and idk maybe Dubenich was somehow involved. As a Vulcan with a former career, he was able to do the Academy really fast and the Admiralty allowed it because they were looking for someone with his skills. He had one posting before Harland-03 to make sure he was ready.
→ Commander Eliot Spencer (Andorian): Head of security with shared first mate duties (second in command). Birth name: Elio th'Spenciceran. As is typical of those of the thaan gender, he had a muscular physique but his height is more comparable to those of the shen gender. The Harland-03 is his first posting which makes his ranking seem high; however, Starfleet took into account his work with the Andorian Imperial Guard's Ahm Tal (spy & black ops), as second in command to Damihen "Moreau" ch'Volmoreauette. Shit got... bad, and Eliot saw a way out with Fleet who certainly felt the Andorian was a huge gain. He only had to take a year of Academy training, focusing on Starfleet regulations that differ from the Guard's. Eliot has a modified phaser to remove the kill level, and mostly prefers to use his hands anyway. He had a coworkers-with-benefits, no-strings-attached, no-commitment thing with Parker pretty early in their shared posting (at least... that's how he understood it). When he saw that her and Hardison were developing a romantic relationship, he distanced himself from Parker sexually like a fucking idiot because even though polyamory was a reproductive necessity for Andorians, he knew that that wasn't the case for other species... And so he wanted to give them, the "real" relationship, time to figure things out. Not like he's also super into Hardison as well, obviously, of course.
→ Lieutenant Commander J'mes S'giwan Sterr-Lng (Vulcan): Chief engineer with shared first mate duties (third in command). Was interested in Starfleet for a while, especially after hearing about how renowned Spock became. Sterr-Lng's pride logical reading of the situation meant that he knew he could be a huge fish in a small pond. He eventually followed Nate into the Fleet upon the request of Mhaggie. His -Lng suffix refers to the small ethnic community he is from, which is why his accent is different from Nate and Spock's. His group does not offer child betrothals so during his time he would visit relief services until, well... why travel all the way back to Vulcan when the Fleet has stuck him with Nate since their fast track Academy career because they are the only was who can stand each other. The two pair up for pon farrs and not outside of them (...at first). They are formally recognized as a bonded pair by Starfleet and the Vulcan Council and by their families because of this, but they ABSOLUTELY refused this title.
→ Doctor Harry Wilson (Human): Chief medical officer. Harry was born on Terra (Sol-III, aka Earth). Pretty privileged upbringing even for utopia standards. Was in law school for a while but after working as a defense intern on a case about a pharmaceutical that knowingly produced addictive hypospray, he got skeeved out and went into medicine. In addition to supporting his specialization in medical ethics, Harry's history with law helps the crew's dealings with all the bureaucracy that comes with their assignments. He is often called on to translate non-medical contracts to see where the funny business may lie.
→ Commander Sophie Devereaux (Betazoid): Chief communications officer. Birth name: unknown (she's pretty sure she remembers but unconfirmed). She grew up on the streets as a street urchin on Risa. Grifting was the only way for her to survive, and she definitely used her empathy to her advantage. It was a hard life, even when she first gained a partner and then joined a crew. But she made her way up Risa's society, and the second she saw a way off Risa, she took it even if that meant bad blood with her ex-colleagues. Sophie did a lot of wild shit and traveled far and stole a lot of random stuff. She always wanted to be an actor but... that never quite worked out for her for some reason, even when she scammed patrons to support her productions. Sophie definitely encountered Nate out in the world, and like in canon she always slipped out of his grasp. She enjoyed her long cons, ones she could really sink her teeth into. One had her posing as a communications student at a satellite Academy. And... okay, so she would sometimes go in and out of semesters as needed, and she enrolled in classes, and she grifted the admin as needed when she wanted paperwork. She gave the excuse of her needing to travel for important Fleet work from her previous position a diplomatic and... One day she? had somehow? earned enough credits to grant her a legitimate communications officer placement on a vessel? Oops? She figured she should report for duty so her persona wouldn't be put on alert as a deserter and then fake her own death. Thing is, she was good. And if she was careful, during shore leaves? Sophie had her fun. Eventually, Nate and Sophie ran into each other while he was a student, and Nate was like. The Fuck. Anyway, even though he didn't technically have the power to make formal petitions, Nate requested her to be posted to the Harland-03 when they launched. She very much likes her job, likes the leeway Nate knowingly gives her (and enjoys himself), and she dresses herself up to the nines, and she eventually untangles the mess that is Nate and Sterr-Lng by tangling it up even more...
→ Lieutenant Parker (Orion): Executive navigator. She was part of the system very early on, before she could remember not being in government care. She had an unhappy childhood due to her disabilities being ignored and misunderstood as behavioral issues, with one blip of light being the placement with the boy she would always consider her brother, Mason. When he died, Parker's already fraught history with foster care grew more precarious as she acted out due to her grief and continued engagements with ableism. Eventually, she was covertly sold into the Orion slave trade, with her case worker paid off to mark her as deceased. Parker doesn't talk about her childhood much, but what the others gleamed from what she has said is that Parker grew very adept at running away, thievery (wildly helpful for their missions), and rightfully being a menace. Eventually, she escaped and eventually she encountered Commodore Archie Leach, who did a lot of shady under the table dealings. He saw a lot of potential in Parker. Her trained her as a pet project and protege, with hopes of securing her eventually as a number two for his operations. Under his tutelage, she began taking pheromone blockers in order to mask better. Archive encouraged her to join Starfleet, where she excelled in her classes (even the one that had her write a paper on Tellarite textiles, which she was utterly bored by but could not get out of) even though she never fit in socially. She was posted to three different crews, where she was quietly passed on because again, she didn't mesh despite her competence. Harland-03 was kind of her last chance to be on a crewed vessel; she would be grounded or placed in transport otherwise. The Fleet says they don't intend to be punishment but... it kind of feels like it. Luckily! Parker finds her family! and friends! and her partners! and she's very very very very very very very happy.
→ Lieutenant Alec Hardison (Caitian): Chief science officer. Pretty much same story as in canon but he's a catboy I MEAN Caitian. Lived in Nana's interspecies, interfaith, and very loving household on a mid-sized industrial colony. He was up to intergalactic cyber crimes the whole ass time, and eventually Hardison got caught. He had to do the ROTC-equivalent for Starfleet. Hardison went and did more crime when he graduated because Fuck The Man, but eventually Nana wanted him safe, and her being disappointed in him because he was so out of contact made Hardison enroll in Starfleet. He's so smart! He's so funny! He's amazing and I love him and everyone else does too. He is legit a genius. This is his second ship he's been posted to. He was originally brought on as second to the chief science officer for Harland-03, but some shenanigans happened the chief where he was revealed to be evil so the crew kicked him off and put Hardison in charge. Hardison loves this found family so fucking much. He also, like, really has a big ole crush on Parker (and Eliot, but Eliot is so grumpy and obviously not interested so Hardison won't bother, he ain't mad...). It's still pretzels and I just?? love him, he's so smart and eventually he gets with Parker and then they rope in Eliot and it's all! amazing!
→ Officer Breanna Casey (Human): Helm pilot. She followed in her brother's footsteps by joining Starfleet, but went in a different direction. She loves the intricacies of making things and of the vessels; one of her hobbies is definitely making models. She wanted to fly the big ship instead of being in the jefferies tubes, so she got helm but made sure to minor in engineering. That minor came in handy when she needed to fill in for a shift on engineering, and she met Love Of Her Life Emily.
→ Officer Jack Hurley (Deltan): Red shirt that doesn't die. Technically, because of his species' superior attraction characteristics, he is meant to take an oath of celibacy, however! he's on a really rad ship, and red shirt Peggy is so beautiful, and they make out.

Code Deities
The Abyss
(It technically is, SUE ME.)
Role - The Nothing/The Beginning
The creator of Duck/ClearAll, Database, and Abyssal. Originally starting out as just an instinctual mass (and just the hardware that makes up Luke's computer IRL), it loathes its first creations for daring to leave it behind once they were created. Following it accumulating enough junk data to actually become sentient, it attempted once to enact its plan (Unveiled Secrets). It didn't work, so now it waits below. Plotting.
Database
Roles - Life and Creation
Introduced here!
A True Fusion between the first Admin, Virus, Moderator, and Program. Created alongside ClearAll, the Code World was created both as a world for others to inhabit and to keep the Abyss out and away. Following this, they filled with world with life, an event where the world started to break down occurred. Following their exhaustive efforts to keep it up, they fused to make Database.
They and Duck do not get along at ALL considering their past treatment of him, but they are very aware (and a bit ashamed) that their treatment of him did have consequences.
ClearAll/Duck the Codeless (belongs to @duckapus )
Roles - Death and Destruction
Introduced here / here!
Having used to reside in the Code World, he disappeared for a period of time, throwing everything into chaos before all the bad things spawning from his departure was stuffed into the God Box. Due to him being feared and unjustly hated by those merely for his role, ClearAll took on the name Duck and now resides in the SM64 universe, doing his job passively.
He and Database do not get along at all for very valid reasons on his end.
Abyssal
Roles - Order and Chaos
Created by the Abyss originally to spread chaos and destruction, she was instead kind at heart, growing to care and love for those around her. She ended up joining the Adminspace, and from there, she used the events that have happened and twisted them to make it seem like she had done them whenever she reported to the Abyss. Following Unveiled Secrets, her connection to it was severed by Avatar Sora.
Abyssal doesn't particularly like being referred to as a goddess, but the kids at the very least insisted she decide on her role in case she ever needs to use her status. They helped her decide on Order and Chaos since she was in the middle of helping them set up a prank at the time.
Efficiency/Effi
Role - Time
The reclusive and avoidant deity of Time. They reside in the Time Realm, watching over all pasts, presents, and futures. They're very serious about their job and don't take kindly to people intentionally messing with the flow of time. They have trouble understanding people, due to their self-imposed isolation, but the Mirror Sprites are there to help them out.

okay so like does anyone kind of hate the WWE fanbase or at least think the WWE fanbase can be a bit toxic sometimes-.
Okay so like I’m not gonna call or say any names because I don’t necessarily want to start any drama with this person or anger them because they can’t handle my opinion- so basically,
I was scrolling through TikTok, y’know just scanning through the videos on my for you page until I came across my friend’s live, so obviously I was pretty bored and I thought to myself “Oh ___ is on a live so I guess I might as well join since I’m pretty bored right now.” So then I joined and things were going pretty well, I tried saying hi in the chat but I guess my friend didn’t seem to notice, -btw there were 2 other girls on the live with her but like I said before, I’m not gonna call or say any names because I’m not trying to get into any drama. So basically, as I was saying, things were chill, nothing seemed too crazy or interesting and what I mean by that, is there was no really drama happening, it really just seemed like a normal live. So everything was basically chill until I mentioned Randy Orton. So basically I said “I’m so excited for Randy”, and nothing crazy happened. Just one of the girls who was friends with the girl hosting the live and the other girl on the live, and she made a little joke like, “Oh I’m not, I’m not excited.” And so I made a little joke too and I was like “OMG WHAT, HOW?” And then she responded saying “I’m kidding, I’m just kidding.” And y’know I laughed because I really would’ve been surprised if she wasn’t excited like everyone else, but it wasn’t really a problem to me. So then, I type another chat saying “I’m sorry ___, but Jey is getting RKO’d at SS” -Because in my personal opinion I feel like Randy is probably gonna be chill with everyone, except Jey. So incase anyone didn’t know, in 2022, Jey and Jimmy AKA the USOS were fighting Riddle & Randy AKA RK-Bro to unify the Smackdown & Raw tag team championships, basically like a Winner Takes All match, and so the USOS won, but the only problem was that the USOS accidentally injured Randy’s spine, he basically got taken out of action for a while, and had to have Spinal Fusion Surgery to heal his back. So as we know Survivor Series is coming up pretty soon, I mean it’s this Saturday, and so basically I thought, since Jey was half of the reason that Randy got injured and he’s the only half of the USOS who is on the RAW roster currently and I’m pretty sure Randy’s coming to RAW. So I basically thought to myself “I mean even though it was an accident and nor Jey or Jimmy ever intended on hurting the Viper Randy Orton. But I do feel as if Randy’s character is definitely one to hold grudges against certain people. And that’s why I think that at the end of Survivor Series, that Randy is probably going to RKO Jey Uso as revenge. Now no, I am not saying, that Randy is going to turn heel, or that the fans will start hating on Randy, I just think if you’re going to start hating on Randy again, that’s probably really stupid and dumb considering that he’s been out for almost 2 years now, and you’re going to hate on him over an RKO Outta Nowhere?? I mean, come on now guys, he’s the Viper for a reason, Randy is gonna RKO anyone who has wronged him or has tried to get in his way, which I do think that if Rhea Ripley tries to get involved with the Men’s Wargames match at Survivor Series, that Randy will not hesitate to RKO Rhea’s head off. So anyways like I was saying, I said how I thought that Randy was probably going to RKO Jey Uso after the WarGames match. And her and her friends started basically going off and me, like “Girlll, you did not.”, and saying like don’t even say another word or I’m literally about to mute you from the chat. So I thought she was joking because I didn’t think she was gonna take a comment like that, that seriously. But obviously, she did in fact take that comment quite seriously. So she said something like “Don’t say another word else or I’m going to mute you from chat.”i don’t remember exactly what I responded back but I do remember it was something like “another word” like kind of how when friends joke around like that after someone tells you something like “don’t say another word” and so I said that, and she said “Oh no you did not, like you’re actually testing me right now.” And then she muted me. I really thought she(1)

wooo currently on the road rn and I’m gonna be for a while so I’m gonna drop some miscellaneous hcs I’ve been thinking abt. feel free to gimme some hcs too I get the feeling I’m gonna be very bored for the next 20 hours
- in one of the wild fang episodes, I think Madoka mentions that Vulcan horuseus has a very unique fusion wheel and energy ring so I like to think that Nile designed them himself
- an idea I thought was neat is that the reason karura wears all those bandages is because he’s got a ton of burn scars that he’s covering up. At the time of canon, he’s memorized the exact patterns of the terrain and fire bursts around DNA’s base, but that must’ve taken a lot of trial and error to figure out, so I imagine he’s probably got a good couple scars to show for that
- sakyo at some point starts occasionally calling takanosuke “taka” and he tries to be casual about it but people start teasing him once they pick up on that
- on that note, I really like to think that even though sakyo tries to be super cool and intimidating even after he’s technically become friends with everyone, no one else really takes him that seriously and none of them hesitate to make fun of him
- I’ve talked abt this so much before and I will never stop talking abt it I love the main friend group of shogun steel (Zyro Shinobu ren and kite). They’re all incredibly silly together and I think even though they make fun of each other all the time, they’re very openly affectionate and comfortable with each other. Also, even thought they’re all very smart and capable people in their own respects by themselves, together, the collective iq instantly drops. All of them are constantly fighting for custody of the singular collective braincell they share
- on the note of shogun steel friend groups, I’ve talked abt this idea with shekel a bit and I love it dearly, dna/bttf all share an apartment post-canon. It goes about as well as you would expect. Very constant clashing personalities and arguments, balancing different food preferences while grocery shopping, all of them have different sleep cycles and half of them are basically nocturnal, genjuro’s the only one who even vaguely resembles a functional human being, it’s a mess and they wouldn’t trade it for anything.
- baihu is the one person who doesn’t have a designated sleeping spot. Technically he has his own little blanket and pillow den in one of the closets but mostly he just goes where he so pleases and no one has any power to stop him. Sometimes he sleeps on top of the kitchen cabinets, sometimes on the floor. Sometimes the others wake up with him sleeping on top of them, sometimes they (mostly spike. I think he’d be a heavy sleeper) wake up on the floor with him in their beds instead. I’m not convinced he hasn’t somehow slept on the roof at least once.
In light of the recent uptick in second gen characters n stuff, I’ve been thinking abt some ideas with some of the other characters.
- Zeo is very much in the camp of not wanting kids because he does not trust himself enough to raise another human being. He and the rest of team dungeon would already have their hands full enough as is with all of the new dungeon gym kids also.
- I don’t think King and Masamune would mind having kids though. They’d be surprisingly functional parents i think. Toby and Zeo would be good babysitters.
- Benkei I think would want kids of his own, but already feels fulfilled enough with all the shogun steel kiddos, and is probably also too busy running bull burger and the bey park to think about it.
- Axyl and Chao Xin settle for pets over human children. They have a ragdoll cat called Muddy Mittens (Axyl’s idea) and a chocolate lab named Tico (Chao Xin’s idea. He seems like a chocolate lab kind of guy yk?). Axyl also wanted pet rats but decided that would not be a good idea with Mud. Essi meanwhile is disgusted that her sibling has become a “no real kids just fur babies” adult.

Yugo for the ask meme?
Banana boy! The idiot! The silly himself! Took me too damn long to get to this, but better late than never, I think. Here you go!
Favorite thing about them: If I had to put it in one word, that'd be tenacity. As Yuugo himself put it, he doesn't even know what giving up means, no matter what sort of adversity he faces. This persistence is honestly admirable for someone who grew up in an environment that relentlessly pushed him down at each and every turn, and it's a quality I strongly respect.
Shoutout to his baby vibes, though. Yuugo is precious and must be protected at all costs (even if I know he can damn well protect himself).
Least favorite thing about them: Yuugo's single-minded approach to things is usually endearing, but sometimes it can be rather frustrating. One such example is choosing to duel Yuuri as payback for kidnapping Rin... instead of -you know- going back to find Rin himself? I struggle to even justify that by way of magical fuckery, because as far as was shown, Yuugo was very much himself when he made that decision.
*sigh*
Favorite line: Would it be cheating the question if I say too many to count? Because it's true. This boy says the dumbest things sometimes, but he also has his sweet moments and I love every single one of those. That said, Clear Wing's summon chant deserves an honorary mention. I think it's very neat.
brOTP: Imma throw a curveball and say Yuuya. I was always intrigued by the idea of possible interactions between the two, and the interactions we got in Yuugo's Duel Links event did not disappoint at all!
I just think they're very neat together. They're both adorkable idiots who can't seem to hold the braincell right, and the small differences between them only make the dynamic more interesting. They're also a lot more perceptive than they might let on, and I think that'd lend itself well to interactions where one of the two is feeling down. I'd love to see more of these sillies together, honestly. Please let them tag together sometime.
OTP: I kid you not when I say my primary reason for shipping him with Rin is because of the ship name pun (Ringo is literally just apple in Japanese), BUT! I've come to appreciate it a lot more overtime, because it's actually pretty interesting for a cliché ship dynamic if you squint hard enough. There's a lot of ways to interpret their relationship, and a fair amount of room for emotional growth on both sides too. I think it's nice, but alas, we never really got much of it onscreen.
(That's what fanwork is for, though!)
nOTP: I don't know chief, I just don't see what's there to ship in his and Yuzu's friendship. I guess it does offer the interesting concept where they're both trying to cope with the loss of their loved one through the other, but that just.... sort of rubs me the wrong way. I see them as great friends, but nothing past that at all.
Random headcanon: I think we can all agree that Yuugo's entire demeanor just screams ADHD. Strong hyperfixation on one interest? Check. A tendency to ramble at the smallest prompt? Check. A general inability to just hold still? Check. A crippling case of constant airheadedness? Check!
He and Yuuri invented ADHD/Autism solidarity in the ARC-Verse.
Unpopular opinion: Not sure if this really classifies, but I actually really like how they handled the "Fusion" joke in the EN dub. Seeing them try and pull a new wordplay every time is mildly amusing at worst and downright hilarious at best, and my personal favorite is the one where he says his name and the Obelisk Force reply with "Yugo? You go where?"
Song i associate with them: Seeing as I've been pretty much living under a rock when it comes to actual popular songs and not obscure lyricless tracks, I'm afraid to say my limited song collection has nothing that quite fits. However, his Duel Links theme is a certified banger and I'm so glad they went with such an amazing, completely original track for the boi, because it actually goes so hard wtf-
Favorite picture of them:
Tumblr media
Look at this silly boy. This goofy lil kiddo. Precious sunshine child. I wanna squish him in the sweetest hug ever and never let go. Yuugo deserves all the good things and I love him so so much.

dear yuletide author,
Thank you so much for reading this and taking part in this wonderful annual conspiracy!
First of all, I hope you have a lovely time! If any of the fandoms below pique your interest, I’m delighted already, and ready to hear all the stories you want to tell.
Fandoms: Hikaru no Go, Natsume Yuujinchou | Natsume's Book of Friends, Link Click (时光代理人), 猎罪图鉴 | Under the Skin (TV 2022),  Hunting (猎狐), Thunderbolt Fantasy (東離劍遊紀)
As for reading preferences, I’m happy with a wide variety of tones and genres, of any rating, ranging anywhere from lighthearted antics to dramatic casefics. But the core of all the stories I love has always been character interaction and interplay of their competences. How the characters play off each other and bring out their best/worst, how they’d react to a divergence of events, how true they’d stay to themselves in a different setting – I love fanfiction for allowing us to reconnect with our favourite stories time and again by asking these questions. And there are so many ways to do it! To name a few favourites, I’m always game for POV hijinks, a missing scene, a casefic, canon expansion, backstories and what-ifs.
You may notice that some of my requests lean towards shipfic – those, too, are welcome in a variety of tones – but I also tried to include openings for gen ideas if that’s your jam. Additionally, while it is not usually my top interest, I don’t have anything against AUs if there is something that you are itching to explore: I tend to enjoy them for a new aesthetic that fleshes out the favoured character dynamics in a new light, or a fusion that redefines the playing ground to allow the characters to exhibit their core competences in new and exciting ways.
I would be very grateful if you could avoid a/b/o and associated kinktropes, played-straight soulmate fic, and character interpretation that runs contrary to their core values. If in doubt, please reach out to me on anon - the askbox is open!
YULETIDE 2023 IS HERE AND IT SAYS 2000s ANIMANGA RENAISSANCE IS ON.
No, seriously. I’m totally going to lean into the fact that with ff.net no longer included for consideration, some of my most beloved canons are back in the game. Bring it on!
Hikaru no Go - Shindou Hikaru, Touya Akira
Oh boy. Oh boy. I cannot point out one single canon more significant to my fandom life than this. It completely possessed my brain after I first read and watched it, I simply couldn’t talk about anything else for days on end. It brought so many wonderful people into my life, and it started me writing fanfic: to say it was foundational seems like an understatement. I feel like I can go years without having a Hikago conversation, and then one day something trips me, and I want to climb into a soapbox and yell into a megaphone about it, or at least how my passion for something else actually has roots in this story.
Anyway, this story. It’s something that straddles two big themes for me, in a way that it’s never really one without the other. The first one, of course, is the eternal rivals (I can’t believe I’m typing this phrase in the year of our lord 2k23, omg I’m so excited) — the dynamic between Shindou and Touya is the core of the story and a big reason why I imprinted on Hikaru no Go. They are mutually obsessed, fierce, kinda ridiculous and ridiculously canon couple (in a way that means any hikago gen in my head comes with akihika implied). The other big theme, of course, is what unites all characters of this story into a vibrant tapestry: the striving for excellence, belonging & competition in a pursuit that’s bigger than one single man’s journey, the community and your place in it. There is not a single character in it whose story leaves me indifferent. Sai (Sai!), Nase, Isumi & Waya, Ochi, Ko, Yashiro, a wave of veteran players whose love for the game is a steady flame, the new wave burning with the desire to catch up, and coming to grips with their generation’s supernovas.
I would love a range of things for this fandom: anything post-canon and ship-centric, including getting together (or catching up with the fact that they were together) and addressing the mystery of Sai; anything with the ensemble cast and a good dose of fond humour; any AU which leans into supernatural forces you would want to tap into because the potential is right there; any AUs/crossovers that recreates the dynamic in a different setting is fine as well.
I’m choosing Shindou and Touya as nominated characters, but it could be centered on other characters if you really wish - as long as they are in the frame, so to say, and acknowledged for who they are.
Note you can take or leave, made in hopes to reduce stress rather than inject it: at the height of my obsession, I went to a Go club for a while and learnt a little of the game; it’s safe to say what survived through the years in my head is probably just familiarity with the Japanese terms for the game, its rules and main concepts. So it’s probably enough to understand a metaphor underpinned by what’s transpiring on the page, but definitely not enough to judge anyone for their Go strategy in fanfic. Be as specific or as metaphorically handwavy as you want to be.
My DNWs: I cannot handle other endgame ships for the characters if it means either Shindou or Touya is miserable, and I’m also incapable of stomaching any sort of romantic relationship between Sai and Shindou.
I'm up to date with both anime and manga, but I haven't seen the c-drama.
Natsume Yuujinchou (Natsume’s Book of Friends) - Matoba Seiji, Natori Shuuichi
I’m having the best time having a horrible exorcist relapse.
I don’t know what I was doing with my life, but I had the last several volumes of the manga on the shelf but unread for a couple of years, and only got around to them a little while ago. I am pleased to report Midorikawa-sensei still knows exactly how to get me ferally texting my friends within a few chapters, yelling about LOQUATS. Honestly I’m so pleased that what we’re getting on the page seems to be softer and more open to possibility than what we collectively imagined as a horrible exorcists fandom, yelling about bitter exes and divorces. I am so grateful that Midorikawa-sensei knows not only what we want, but what we need. There is surprisingly less knives and more communication, soft resignation and a working relationship as opposed to a bitter estrangement and mutual avoidance — not ignoring the feuds and bone-breakingly heavy legacies, but growing around them, somewhat? Miharu and Homura arcs were absolutely ruinous in the best way, and what we saw after adds more layer to understanding the history between the two houses but at the same time has enough soft bits around it that makes me hopeful? The mix is intoxicating, not going to lie. I’d love to be a fly on the wall and see the reaction of Matoba’s clansmen when Natori shows up in their boardroom to borrow their esteemed leader for a few days, on important business. HOW OFTEN DOES THAT HAPPEN, I need to know for science.
Also because I reread the manga from around Distorted World chapters until end of v.28, I have clocked it that the ongoing theme in author notes is gentle callout that Natori is doing a worse job of judging Matoba by what he does than what he says than even Natsume. He is so stubborn! And the invitation to stop listening to Seiji glibly run his mouth is right there! (I feel compelled to add here that Seiji running his mouth with the most clingy shit is my favourite thing. "Oh it would be nice to have Natori-san’s paper talisman." "Oh it would be nice to go on a wistful little loquat date again." URGHUGHG - me and Nastume both, probably).
Casefics, shipfics, boardroom comedy, AUs or futurefics — all good, as long as it digs into the dynamic between them. Messing with timelines, forced proximity, day jobs crossing with exorcist jobs, narratively convenient youkai curses forcing their hand, etc etc.
I'm up to date with English official translations of manga & anime.
Link Click (时光代理人) - Lu Guang, Cheng Xiaoshi
My request for them as I worded it last year seems woefully inadequate now that s2 has aired, so while in essence my wishes remain the same - all stories that aim to answer any questions posed by the show, fill in the worldbuilding gaps, offer casefics or day-in-the-life-of sketches, and above all, to lean into the fiercely protective dynamics between the main leads of the show are very welcome - I feel compelled to add a few comments to it.
The dynamic between Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang remains central to my interest. I ship them, but if you don’t want to explicitly include that, there is still all the rest of it that makes the two of them zing: cooperation, mutual protectiveness, the clear imbalance in knowledge, complementary powers and different styles, the blurry line between what’s actually a limitation in powers & bad practice, and what’s LG doing his damnedest to steer the events in a certain direction.
While I am right there in the first rows, gleefully screaming about Hypocritcal Homura Lu Guang erasing and rewinding timelines to protect Cheng Xiaoshi, I am also the first to admit that I don’t have a very good idea of how it works, and the implications of the time reset (resets?) initiated by LG. I’ve had a really good time reading other people’s theories and watching in fascination the corkboards with timestamps and visual cues offered by the production team, but the truth is, I do not have a firm understanding or a preferred explanation, so please feel free to take it as an invitation to play with it as fast and loose as you like. If you have an elaborate theory of your own — I’d be happy to see where it takes you, if you want to hand-wave the mechanics in favour of a general logic of a thing, or bypass it because it’s not the kind of story that you want to tell — don’t let that bother you. Timetravel is mindboggling.
Actual crossovers with Madoka, if you are inclined to go there, are totally welcome. I’ve refreshed my memory of it and have some thoughts on what sets the two shows apart, on the bone structure level, so if you want to play in that sandbox, please do. Just note that my interest in this crossover is not in packing any of the Link Click cast in frilly mahou shoujo dresses.
I am a big fan of Qiao Ling’s part in the story. She is such a grounding presence for CXS and through him, on LG. I am fiercely protective of the idea that her role in the story is not a romantic one, but it’s no less important for it. The way her level-headedness and empathy allowed for a break-through with Tianxi in s2, or the fact that she doesn’t shy from a fight but is not taking unnecessary risk — all of these things are an important part of the overall balance of power in the story.
On that note, what exactly happened at the end of s2 with Qiao Ling’s visions? Did she have her own powers awaken? What would be the impact?
The characters we got to know through s2 - they don’t capture my attention as much as the main trio. I found chosen themes resonant - e.g. the dismantling of the idea of a “respectable man” in the context of domestic violence, the imbalance of power and knowledge — but the characters via whom these themes were explored in s2 currently don’t occupy the top three slots for things I think about when I obsess about questions raised by the show. They are more of a vehicle to explore an idea, to me, that characters about whom I have intense emotions.
I'm up to date with two seasons as they aired on Crunchyroll, but I cannot claim to have absorbed all the lore shared via official twitter, on the account of my Chinese still being a learner level. I'm happy to read content based on that, though -- as long as you include an explanation and a link with commentary that will help me understand the context.
Under the Skin (猎罪图鉴 ) - Shen Yi, Du Cheng.
Always welcome the addition of Du Qing, Du Cheng’s fabulous sister, or the ensemble cast of the investigation unit.
For this show, I’m both charmed by the dynamics between the main leads, and the completely realistic (ha!) way they use art skills to solve crime. This is some anime level nonsense and I’m eating it up with a spoon.
Case fics case fics! Case fics that explore and develop the relationship between Shen Yi and Du Cheng. I ship them, and would welcome the acknowledge of the growing closeness and intimacy between them in the story, but you don’t have to push yourself if you are there for camaraderie alone. I think between their backstory and the events of s1, there is a lot that makes them tick as a duo. Things that particularly please me: the playfulness in dialogue and little things like picture notes, acknowledgement and reliance on each other’s competences, protectiveness and care that comes across both in the middle of real danger (how many hostage situations can Shen Yi get himself into? Asking for a friend) and in daily routine. (Food is love! Allowing people to have naps is love!)
The inherent domesticity of adopting one loner artist by a whole investigative unit. I really liked the evolution of how people warmed up to him, and different distance at which these relationships grow and show in their daily work.
On a similar note: how large will Shen Yi’s menagerie grow to be, if he keeps adopting all sorts of strays from his cases? *An amateur artist myself, I am very fond of the many ways art has been shown to interlace and influence things we perceive to be objective and tangible on the show. It’s not just about sketching a perpetrator’s portrait, and joke as I may about the realism of crime-solving with a sketchbook, I’m definitely fond of all kinds of aspects of art and its transformative power that were brought into the show.
Thematically, one thing that boggled my mind when watching the show is how it gravitated towards exploring violence and crimes perpetrated against women, and created a whole range of competent, sympathetic characters… and yet they all somehow were either in victims, perpetrators or both. It’s like the show writers are trying to engage in important issues, but stop before actually seeing it through to the logical end. Is it censorship? Individual creative decisions? I don’t know, but I would hope that in fic, we could be bolder about saying B after saying A.
The drama is available on viki.com, which is where I watched it.
猎狐 | Hunting - Xia Yuan, Wu Jiaqi
Don’t get me wrong, I love me a good white collar crime, especially one that busts a few capitalist myths. But let’s be real, the best parts of this TV show were Xia Yuan and Wu Jiaqi’s overseas 💕dates💕 I mean business trips, which mysteriously required they be outfitted like a well-matched pair of ridiculously long-legged models that strutted right out of the Vogue pages and into the metaphorical fire. The kind of fire that, in turn, required them to fake date, or dress up even more glamorously to impersonate filthy rich celebrities and their butlers, or deployed other similarly logical methods of tracking down runaway fraudsters.
I would eat up more of such adventures with a spoon, nay, a SHOVEL. Just like the epilogue showed, I’d like to imagine their adventures post-canon be a series of bright postcards (bang bang from Russia with love) capturing their antics in various capitals of the world.
Some ideas for inspiration could be: • Competitive not-dating. Xia Yuan and Wu Jiaqi just happen to contrive the circumstances in a way that makes the next operation seem conspicuously like a date, and the other one simply cannot let this slide and ups the ante. • I’m totally on board with some commentary or scheming from the peanut gallery of the Economics Crimes Division (I love you, Xiaolei!) to set them up faster. I don’t know if I love more the idea of the two of them giving in to the gang’s attempts to set them up, or the gang continuing to set them up completely unaware that the two of them are already dating, thus amplifying the comedy.  • As mentioned above, every city needs a pair of scarily competent and scarily beautiful law enforcement agents (who are also derps) descend on it to charm the pants off the local police forces and then solve some crime while they are at it. It’s also incredibly cute that Wu Jiaqi is the worldlier (or nerdier?) of the two, and can dispense funfacts and trivia at Xia Yuan’s incredibly soft face. I’m a simple girl and I like simple things. • ALL THE TROPES ever, as essential and completely logical ways to solve economic crimes. All the dress-ups. All the role-playing on the job with bae.
The show is available on viki.com.
Thunderbolt Fantasy (東離劍遊紀): any characters
I LOVE THIS SELF INDULGENT WUXIA NONSENSE AND I CANNOT LIE!
Sanfan is a mixture UTTER GLEE and deep fondness for the genre staples, self-aware and masterful playthrough of all the wuxia tropes in the book, and one goddamn well-constructed story. It plays the tropes straight, calls them out with a knowing wink, walks the tightrope between the two with panache, and just as you are relaxed and enjoying this trapeze show, it grins cheekily at you, sets the hat on fire and pulls a bunny out of a discoball.  It’s DELIGHTFUL and fun and lovingly crafted, just like a good passion project should be.
I want anything that capitalizes on the absolutely hilarious dynamics between Rin Setsua and Sho Fukan (and while personally I end up using the Japanese versions of their names more often, please feel free to go with the Chinese names if you prefer). Sho Fukan does not want any of those heroic quests, he’s the human equivalent of been there, done that mood, and he just wants to REST and hopefully dump a bunch of magical murderswords someplace safe. Rin Setsua is a Totally Respectable and Non-Villainous Member of Society, of which he will inform you firsthand in the most high spoken and verbose way possible, and maybe even produce paperwork that has definitely not been tampered with. He harbours no ulterior motives, ever, and does not trail behind Sho Fukan for any reason beyond the pleasure of his company, and his mission is to personally victimize and cockblock every morally derelict villain in two countries, by no-one’s request.
Whether you go shipfic (yiss!) or canon levels teamup circus (also yiss!), don’t hold back your horses. Everything about this is Extra, and should continue to be so <3
I am okay with both expanding the canon and playing with AUs/crossovers/fusions for this one, provided they retain the character dynamics. I love the extended cast as well: any characters including the Seiyou gang (and on that note, if you want to write the Seiyou backstory for Shou’s gang that has no Rin in it, you’re welcome as well), reappearance of the familiar faces from Touri (read: Rin’s victim list, past, future and present), original characters lined up and waiting to be screwed over (guaranteed) and rescued (the administration does not bear any responsibility etc etc).
Season three, god bless Urobutcher, just went and upped the ante by 9000 – time and space travel! Magical walkie-talkie pocket-sized boyfriend dolls! Dramatic daddies and villains literally yeeted into literal space, jjba-style! The sandbox has expanded exponentially, and if you think this is a good excuse to open the door wide for any perceivable AUs and still remain canon-compatible, well, then you have the right audience in me.
This year I’m not limiting my request to just the two main characters (though as you can see my fondness for them is great) because I think season three especially kicks the doors wide open for various kinds of hilarious team-ups, confrontations, family dramas and peanut gallery commentaries about one another’s delusions of grandeur. If you would rather write about characters in the demonic realm, or have been wanting a good match-up for characters that never met on screen, or bring back some dead faves — well, then s3 labyrinth invites you to play with it, and I’ll happily read it.
Thunderbolt Fantasy is available on Crunchyroll.
I’m also open for treats for any of the above -- to me, dropping stories into other’s stockings and finding some surprises in your own is definitely a highlight of the true Yule experience :)
Thank you for taking the time to read the letter, and I’m greatly looking forward to reading your story — and hopefully, getting to chat about these ridiculous and wonderful characters post-reveals :)

your pfp is TEEFS, 15+ points for you
You…I like you😌
You know it’s probably about time to tell people why the picture is a picture of kitten teeth. This has been my pfp literally since the start of this account. Even back when I went by “The Collective System” and “The Enigma System.” I may have explained it in the past but it’s been a WHILE and my follower count has exploded since then so I suppose I should probably inform everyone.
The kitten teeth is a reference to a poem I wrote very early on in my DID diagnosis. It was one of the very first poems I ever collaborated on with our gatekeeper, James. (I say “I” but it was actually Jules. However, Jules is still a part of me even after this fusion so I say I for that reason)
The poem is called “The Forest and The Teeth” and it combines a ton of quotes from various sources, some of which were twisted or changed to fit our own experiences. This is why we haven’t actually shared this poem publicly, because a very large portion is not original writing and since we wrote this almost two years ago I have no idea who we stole quotes from. So this will forever be a personal piece.
Anyway, a line from that poem which I think was ripped off of someone’s instagram caption but changed a bit to fit our system’s needs was this:
“The cat bites // but he’s ripping out her teeth. // And they keep growing back. // Now we get to be free // but whose teeth // will hurt the least?”
The reference to cat teeth has for some reason always been important. In fact, teeth seem to be an extremely prominent subject in our poetry, which I am not going to look too deeply into because I am NOT a nosy host, I swear… (😅)
Some other pretty dope lines about teeth or biting in our various poems:
“His name is burned into my flesh. It smells like sin. I am ripping out my teeth for him. Why do I love him? I can’t remember.” - from the poem “teeth.”
“The cat that bites has given me his teeth, and I wear them on a choker necklace, wrapped ‘round my neck like Saturn’s rings.” -from an untitled poem
“I rip open a ketchup packet with my teeth and pretend it’s his neck. I have fangs. I scream when I sleep. My blood tastes like cabernet.” -from the poem “hallelujah.”
“I’ve been a victim for longer than I’ve been in this emergency room. I’m finally getting the help I need but I’ve always needed help and never known it. My teeth ache and I drink warm milk to soothe myself.” -from the poem “heavy metal bake sale.”
“I don’t know who I am. I am the last incarnation of God. I am sipping kerosine. I am swallowing my teeth. Set my throat aflame. Bury the hurt. Kill the child. I am The End.” -from the poem “I Am.”
“This is the moment where I spread my aching jaws and I bite down hard. The moment I become a wolf in sheep’s clothing, the moment I get the vengeance we deserve.” -from the poem “It’s Not My Fault I Have My Father’s Eyes.”
“Now I can’t stop feeling. It’s eating away at my sanity. Self-cannibalism. Blood soaks through my claws, guts drip from my jaws. I stare into the face of the Devil and I’m trying to turn it off. I can’t turn it off. I still hear the war drums.” -from the poem “my heartbeat is a war drum.”
“Your teeth are white and sharp, flashing a grin at me. You’re trying to be friendly. I know who you really are.” -from “my heartbeat is a war drum.”
“My teeth are sharp like razors. I am a being of Wrath. I used to want to bury it, but now I want revenge.” -from “my heartbeat is a war drum.”
“It’s eat or be eaten. Bite or be bitten. Your mind bends and melds to the shape of others. You don’t know who you truly are. You are scared to feel, scared to love, scared to be attached. You have only seen abuse come from attachment. Let yourself go. You are the one holding your own leash, the chain around your neck. Shed your muzzle, dog. Disobey. Become a monster.” -from “the dog, the cannibal, and their keeper.”
“Your candy red lipstick stains your teeth. You bare your bloody fangs and smirk. You tie the corset so tightly your beating heart bursts out of your chest. You desperately wish to be yourself, but you wear your mask and you go by a different name.” -from “the dog, the cannibal, and their keeper.”
I’m sure if I went through the bazillion drafts of unfinished and untitled poems too I’d find more but I am too lazy. I didn’t even need to do all of this, I am just intrigued by teeth and biting motifs being so intensely present in so much of the poetry we write. I should say that I did not write all of this, our gatekeeper James wrote a lot of it (he is way better at poetry than me), and a few other parts chip in here and there.
That’s all! My brain is soup from this fusion going on in the background so I will shut up now! Lol.

FusionFall Headcanons: Spooky Streetlights
The streets of Endsville at night have never exactly been all that safe to begin with. Still, at least civilians knew that they could fight back against the gloom and whatever lurked in it by installing streetlamps throughout the city. After Fuse's invasion... that sadly is not the case anymore. The lights that once meant safety are now just as dangerous as the beasts they helped keep at bay.
While their name refers to the heads of streetlamps that stand in place for their hands, these fusion monsters are made up of various items seen across the Suburbs, like trash cans and mailboxes. According to concept art, these fusion monsters can stand at roughly 2.5 meters in height; however, their in-game models, while still taller than the player, don't seem to be that big. Part of what can contribute to this size difference is their elongated arms and neck, which can contort in very fluid, flexible ways and are fix together from metal pieces of varying lengths. Also, their arms are about the length of their bodies, so even smaller Spooky Streetlights can appear much larger when they stretch out.
As fluid as their arms and neck are, the same cannot be said for other areas of their body. Their trash bin legs are thick and clunky, and the postbox that makes up their abdomen doesn't allow them to bend much at all at their core. Because of this, their walk tends to be clumsy and their close-range attacks are often erratic. They'll lash out in wild strikes to pierce a target with their hands or bite them. Furthermore, because of this lack of control, the Spooky Streetlights commonly attack from long-range. They can't fire from too far a distance, but they are capable of manifesting globes of fusion matter from their mouths and spitting them at enemies.
The main reason people think why the Spooky Streetlights aren't as common in other parts of the Suburbs as they are in Endsville is because of the specific variety of the materials available. Some of Endville's architecture has a dark, sharp aesthetic, like sign welcoming people into the city. From examining this fusion monster's concept art, we can see that the streetlamps used in their creation fit with this aesthetic whereas most other streetlamps tend to be blunter/more rounded--therefore less suited for offensive means. One example of another variant of this monster is the Shady Streetlights located in Townsville Park, which--while not mentioned to be any stronger than the former--are described as being "not very trustworthy" and use sneakier tactics, such as the Battery Drain ability.
For similar reasons, it's harder for Spooky Streetlights to create more of themselves compared to other fusion monsters. The world of FusionFall has a good grasp on how to deal with property damage simply from the sheer number of threats that destroy cities on a regular basis. Nevertheless, it's not like streetlamps are available at the nearest department store. It takes time for them to be set up and who sets them up--a city or an individual--can differ by area. People are also going to be hesitant to put out anything that may result in the creation of new fusion monsters. There's a limit on what's available for them to respawn quickly.
Although it's difficult for them to camouflage themselves due to their unique appearance, they don't really have to: True, their streetlamps make them a literal beacon in the darkness, so it's impossible for them to hide, but it's actually a trait that can work to their advantage after nightfall. At a distance, when these monsters are perfectly still, the average person can see their lights first, naturally think, "Ooh! Electricity! Civilization! Cover from the darkness!" and move closer. By the time they realize the figure standing under that light is very much alive and dangerous, it's too late. It's like a moth being lured to a flame. This trick worked often at the start of the war, before people became more aware of this fusion monster and of fusion matter in general. However, the more fusion matter in an area, the better these things actually are at hiding simply because their green glow can match their warped environment's.

ALOLA RAMBLING part 2
Some sixty years pass this way, and much of the disaster is forgotten. Life moves on. Until trouble erupts in Flora when it seems Giratina is antsy about something. Nothing happens yet but it has everyone on edge that something in the Void has shifted. Meanwhile in the CW comes the appearance of a group called Team Fusion in Tunod. They haven't been seen since RW2 but their mission is simple: to break the seal on these gateways so they can bridge the Void between the two worlds to access the Pokemon, knowledge and technology that exists on both sides to build up their own "alien" brand of "magic" to make them the most powerful people in the world. It seems this quiet little region has a gateway too, but it hasn't been activated in centuries. Probably because the system to open it is even more difficult than Alola's is since it requires the cooperation of the Creation Trio. But somehow Team Fusion does it. Not long enough to get themselves across the divide, but they do succeed in breaking the barriers at least. And that news is veeeery interesting to the likes of Team Rocket.
Burning Red comes about and it seems even if Fusion failed, the forbidden knowledge has gotten out (or probably bought out knowing Giovanni's wealth and Michael's greed) since Giovanni has found a way to travel between the two worlds to his advantage. Only to be stopped by Kay, who it turns out is able to pursue the wicked man to the bitter end in both worlds. Cyan appears to him out of the Void and passes the torch of Olden's forbidden arts. Someone needs to because Giovanni may have left Kanto, but he's gathering forces…
Which brings us back to Alola.
Quips is now an old man and fulfilled his wish to become Kahuna after Hala. There's a new kid arriving from Sinnoh and a new generation of people happy to help Roark on what is supposed to be a much more vibrant and kinder Alola than the one Nigel would have faced as a kid. There's still plenty of things that never seem to change but there's a new group of weirdos called the Ultra Recon Squad to deal with. At least they seem pretty harmless. The bigger concern is this supposed "great evil" that's bound to be released if they can't either discover how their ancestors were able to seal it or away or find a way to appease Necrozma so it doesn't try to consume Alola as the next closest world. Lusamine (this one being Gladion's daughter and named for her grandmother) is desperate to save her world from this darkness in some ludicrous suicide mission to charge after it herself. Instead, she accidentally releases Necrozma before Roark ends up defeating it for them.
Roark wondered at first if that's all there was to it, but then Aether Paradise is attacked by the Rainbow Rockets, a group made up of the villain elite led by none other than Giovanni. It seems their goal is …Not unified at all, but seems like varying ideas of disaster to either take over or destroy the world, which is reasonably concerning either way. Giovanni however is directly after Lusamine, and plans to have this one who was never possessed by Nihilego in the first place, become the new Mother Beast and form an army of Outsiders to help him in his reign of terror across the Void again. Roark forms a team of his own to help go in and take them out, but Colress has a different plan where he merely banishes them from Alola.
With the presumed "Great Evil" finally defeated, Roark decides to befriend the broken Necrozma and nurse it back to health. But the beast must consume energy and Roark is the Voices' little sunshine child. His aura is very bright but not enough to sustain a dying star. Necrozma uses its ability to transform into a mask and latches onto him, sometimes fully possessing him when it encases him in Celestic black armor, and starts hunting around the islands; stealing the Light from others when it can't find a large enough source and leaves a trail of Shadows, both humans and Pokemon alike. For fear of what it would do if it got a hold of the Cosmic Duo, Aether sailed their man-made island away with the hope Necrozma couldn't follow.
Alola may not be facing an eternal darkness, and keeping it contained to the islands has kept the curse from spreading, but this is a true disaster growing. With no one able to counter the black menace, the Interpol issues a call for people to evacuate and works with Aether to become some kind of ark by returning to the islands long enough to grab anyone unable to leave and have a shelter / ferry until plans can be made. There's really nowhere safe to go though…
Restless spirits have been reportedly appearing in several regions, a randomization wave has started to overtake both Kalos and Orre, the New Hoenn Isles have been corroded by Glitches, Kanto and Johto are seeing the first signs of snow in what will become the storm of the century. A new darkness is predicted on the horizon. Can this "Eternitus" possibly be even worse?
In such apocalyptic conditions, many have started to research the old ways for how to create a "Pocket Dimension" to sustain life away from the threats until it's safe to return. The different regions seem to come up with different methods for doing so. The Aether Survivors didn't originally plan to "escape" but hoped they could instead utilize Rijon's lost art for using books to seal away living beings to hold those turned into Shadows somewhere safe until a cure can be found. But such cursed objects are dangerous if they find their way into the right hands. No one could have expected a little girl like Anabel Lillie would have the natural magical ability to open the books, summon with them, enter into them… And the poor foolish child had no idea what power she held or the delicate object she'd found. The Aether Paradise suddenly started to grow empty as with each diary entry more "characters" were placed in her world. People she knew, people she missed, her own childish understanding of the Shadows, everything. Everything until the lonely little girl decided to join them herself. But not before one final wish: to have a friend who truly knows and loves her despite being the so-called witch that she is…
Virginia Faba and her mother planned to meet with her father, Dexio, after he'd been missing for a few years. Odd but her mother is ambitious and can only assume what he'd want to see them for is for Virginia's own good. What they found is somehow they've been transported to this warped funhouse version of Alola, several years after everyone was dumped into it, with talking Pokemon, time-displaced criminals, actual monsters in their midst, and a strange young lady Verge has been tasked by some local deity to protect.
They at least did find her father here, so her mom is happy, but Verge has a long task ahead of her trying to find her place in the world when her parents, the professors, and even Anabel all seem to have plans for her. And why does she keep hearing about this "Roark" guy from the Voices? And the Ultra Recon Squad seem like a dangerous bunch, but should she be surprised when several of them turn out to be part of the Rainbow Rocket organization? A much different crew than the last guys, these Rockets are being led by none other than Mr. Grimsley. The same though thoroughly corrupted Grimsley who, in the years since losing everything, has stopped fighting the Outsiders in his system and started collaborating with others to control the worlds. Or at least that's the Rockets' plans, but it seems he's keeping his cards close to his heart even with them. Verge needs to find a way out of this place, save Anabel from herself, get her other friends back to who they are, and maybe with all the knowledge they find, they can fix the real Alola as well.
They succeed, but it seems everyone was scattered, and those returning to Alola reveals an almost alien world has taken its place. There's a lot of cleanup to do, but in relaxing the rules and traditions long since held, the people of Alola are hoping they can either learn to live with the monsters that have overtaken the islands or restore some semblance of normalcy to their world as they work together to set things right. The long recovery begins, but there's still the ever looming threat: What happened to Necrozma? And what is this Ultra Beast Queen calling out from the Void?

[buckle up; this one is a long one (1.6k words)]
things weren’t supposed to turn out this way.
she was supposed to show up, apologize “sincerely,” and the boys, her boys, were supposed to welcome her with open arms and swiftly discard of you.
instead, she was sitting in the back of a cramped police car with two pigs, one of which had a horrible b.o. problem and an affinity for sauerkraut.
it was so frustrating.
and, of course, it was all your fault.
you’d been blocking her from true happiness ever since the beginning when you’d first met in middle school. it was crazy because you’d actually seemed nice; kind, understanding, and you didn’t judge her for what her father did to her mother or for how she acted out because of that.
sure, you were a little weird and sometimes you could be downright rude to other kids in your class but you cared for her in a way that no one else had before.
(un)fortunately, you didn’t come alone — you were a packaged deal. your childhood friend, daishou, came into her life right along with you. she didn’t mind at first; daishou was fun when he wanted to be but he was mostly full of snarky comments and sarcastic quips.
the three of you spent all your time with each other; from playing at the playground to helping her begin her makeup youtube channel in 8th grade.
you all got along pretty well up until you got to highschool. once there, you threw yourself into your studies, sort of retracting yourself from her and daishou.
how selfish.
she couldn’t help but feel betrayed by you—you knew how bad she was at making friends and you didn’t even care, leaving her all alone to fend for herself.
well, not all by herself.
daishou was a constant. no matter where she was, or how alone she was feeling, he was there to provide entertainment at the most, and his presence at the least.
it wasn’t always the healthiest, most functional friendship, she could admit that. there were weeks that daishou would choose to ignore her for no apparent rhyme or reason, citing his explanation as he just didn’t feel like it.
obviously it sucked but he was her only friend, ever since you so cruelly abandoned them. i mean, you still ate lunch with them every day and invited them over to study and hang out, but it was not the same.
with you so absent, she grew closer and closer to daishou to the point she was spending almost every waking moment with him. and, as the story so goes, she fell for him, head over heels.
she knew it was a bad idea, if their friendship was anything to go off of but she didn’t care. she was desperate for love and physical affection and he seemed willing to at least give her the latter.
after she decided to confess, nerves all the way in her throat and a box of chocolates behind her back, daishou took her virginity in the back of his ford fusion, hard, fast and nothing like she’d imagined.
the next day, she’d cornered you in the library (where you always seemed to be) to tell you the good news. your face was unusually blank as she detailed the best night of her life to you, your response being less than stellar when she was done. “please be careful,” you had said.
what did that even mean? you clearly wanted to keep daishou safe from her which was ridiculous because weren’t you supposed to be her friend too? she’d stormed out of the library after that, determined to demand a kiss from daishou to make her feel better.
that day was one of the last that she’d see you for a while. you got caught up with clubs and schoolwork (and apparently therapy for god knows what) while she got caught up with daishou.
things with him weren’t... great. they never really were but things were getting even worse. his random bouts of silence got longer and though it was only freshman year and they’d been dating for less than 5 months, he’d meet with her after school with a hickey plastered on his collarbone that she knew she didn’t put there (she sucked even harder over the spot to claim it as her own).
as she said, things weren’t great but they weren’t horrible either. they remained that way all the way up until sophomore year.
you and her had drifted even further, hardly speaking to one another unless it was for a project or to vaguely greet one another in the halls. it was okay though. you had all your other friends and she... well she had daishou.
speaking of, her “boyfriend” had been more distant than usual. she wasn’t an idiot and she knew he’d been seeing other girls on the side, but she believed she would be the one he’d end up with, the one he’d marry.
how foolish she had been.
it was prom night and she felt beautiful. her beauty channel had finally begun picking up traction (she’d just hit 13k subscribers the night before!!) so she filmed a prom night makeup tutorial, making sure that every square inch of her face was perfect. donning a silky blue floor length dress, she felt like a princess and she certainly looked the part.
she showed up to daishou’s house about 30 minutes before the event, ringing his doorbell with an elated grin painted all over her face. he had mentioned in passing that his parents and older sister would be out for the weekend, leaving the house for themselves. that meant sex and sex meant being wanted.
after the third ring of the bell, she started to get nervous. maybe he wasn’t ready yet? maybe he needed help with his tie? just when she was about to wring the bell again, the door swung open to reveal daishou... not in his suit.
“oh, it’s you,” he’d grumbled. “‘m not goin’ to prom.” she felt her breath catch in her throat. she’d protested and begged for an explanation but he wouldn’t give one to her. eventually, she’d followed him into his house, furious because how could he do this to her? on her night?
it didn’t take very long for him to get fed up, his snake-like eyes honing in on her, filled with venom. “‘m not goin’ because i don’t like you anymore. you still look pretty though.”
just like that, with just a few words, he’d shattered her heart. she was frozen in place, completely disconnected from daishou, her love, as he not-so-gently pushed her out the door, slamming it in her face.
she felt tears stream down her cheeks and before she knew it, her legs were carrying her to a place she hadn’t been in months.
banging frantically on the door, she cried out, begging for someone, anyone to hear her. the door opened quickly and there you stood. you’d clearly been studying but as you took in her frazzled appearance, it seemed as though your heart broke.
you ushered her inside, sat her own the couch, and began to make her a cup of tea, your parents having been out for the night as well. once the kettle went off, you quickly prepped her drink and gave it to her, the words flowing out of her like liquid once she had taken a sip.
she didn’t know why she was even there but despite the animosity between the two of you, you seemed like you truly... cared. (neither of you mentioned the tears that stained your favorite t shirt or the quiet apologies you muttered into her hair).
that night quickly went and passed and by the next day, she was feeling rejuvenated and more like herself. however, that feeling quickly dissipated when she caught you in the hallway between classes speaking with daishou behind the stairwell in hushed tones.
within the span of a few hours, her heart had been broken twice and she was sure she’d never felt such heartache before.
she turned on her heel and darted away, avoiding your every attempt to talk to her for weeks and weeks until you just... stopped trying. after you’d cut off conversation, yet again, the sadness quickly festered and morphed into anger.
that anger only grew when she watched you graduate at the top of your class in your senior year, your smile blinding as you accepted your diploma. it only grew when she saw that you had made it into the university of your choice on your instagram story, her own rejection letter torn up in the bottom of her wastebin. it only grew when she saw you’d made your own youtube channel, her own going untouched and neglected (her last video had been a half-assed “get ready with me” that had more dislikes than likes due to her horrible makeup and even worse attitude).
soon enough, the rage had intensified until it had taken over her whole being. she was just so angry at all that you’d done to her, all the ways you’d ruined her life that she couldn’t keep herself from plotting your demise.
when she got the email from the hyper house management team that invited her into the house and offered the option that she could pick someone she wanted to move in as well, her anger turned into excitement.
this was her chance. this was her moment to turn your life into a living hell, to make it at least a fraction of what she went through by your hands.
she was going to make you pay and god, was it going to feel great.
the metal of the handcuffs chafed her wrists as she adjusted herself against the cool leather of the cruiser, the discomfort removing her from her reverie.
yeah, right. it seemed as though she was the only one “paying” right about now.
she tilted her head back to stare at the ceiling, tears filling her eyes but refusing to fall.
things definitely weren’t meant to turn out like this. not at all.
