One of the changes in the live-action that changes the context of something further down the line—

When Zuko says, “I’m tired” at the end of the season.

In the original show there’s so much you can read into that, not least because you’ve watched him being sometimes jaw-droppingly resilient in the arc from nearly being blown up to infiltrating Zhao’s ship and the Northern Water Tribe to dragging Aang through a blizzard. And so there’s a certain resonance in that question: is he tired just physically by that point? Or has part of him started to give up on chasing the Avatar?

In the live-action, that comment comes in the wake of Zhao’s line about Azula, the claim that Zuko is only the fire in which her iron was forged. And so when he says, “I’m tired” it sounds a lot less like physical exhaustion and a lot more existential. He’s started to give up on the idea that his father loves him. He’s also started to doubt whether he ever mattered.

The same line, two completely different contexts.

@cardboard-box-spaceship I got chosen for this art thing and at first I thought I had a month to do it so I chose a really cool project then I found out I had 2 weeks so I decided to embroider something simple and then I found out I actually had an extra week and i kinda hate the project I’m doing because I’m already halfway done and it feels way too boring but i wanna finish my current project first so I know I have at least something completed but after I finish it I’ll barely have enough time for something more complicated (also the 2 other people I know doing this thing are way better artists than me, which is currently gonna be really obvious)

#the only reason I got chosen is because I actually do my work #and also my plans to hide my lack of artistic talent by using a creative medium is not working #at least to my eyes
