🖋️ one your stories that sticks to me the most was the (im)perfect ending. I really wish to see how you visualize their lives after. will Joon ever find out about the baby? will they reunite again? what happens when they do🤭? will Joon finally get his head out of his a** and end his marriage and be true to his feelings 🧐 or will OC has her own happy ending with someone else🤔?
💌 I think other people have said this before, but you are an admirable person that I've ever met online. You've worked hard on your stories and have always given us a lot. even now, you choose to spread positivity and share gifts for others to celebrate your birthday and I think that's the sweetest thing anyone could ever do. happy belated birthday, Dia. You deserve so much happiness and a lot more. I hope your coffee is always hot and your pillow always warm. wishing you and all your precious kitties an abundance of health and joy 💝💝
omg I've been getting the same questions sent to me for this couple, so I guess this might be a good chance to provide some answers for those who have been waiting for it lol
I know that the last letter mentioned in the fic didn't specify how much OC shared about her baby, so I guess this is where we get to see what other things she sent with the letter for Namjoon. I hope you enjoy the snippet and the visualisation below!!

“Don’t forget that you need to pick up Sunny early Saturday morning for her class camping trip.”
Hearing her voice on the phone, clipped with orders, used to make Namjoon wince. Now he is used to it. Always so business-like, even when talking about their only child.
“Did you get that?”
Her voice returns when he doesn’t answer. He holds back from rolling his eyes and calmly answers. “Yeah, I got that. Saturday morning. Early.”
His reaction isn’t the only thing he is holding back. Asking why six-year-olds would go on a camping trip might only end up with him getting a long lecture through the phone. He doesn’t have that much time to endure that. And having his ear burning from it is really the last thing he needs right now.
“Right. I’ll text you the details.” A sigh, then, “Sunny also wants you to be the one to drive her to school Monday. So I’m packing up extra clothes for her to stay with you another night. Is that good?”
Namjoon closes his eyes. As much as he loves having extra time with his daughter, having the child’s mother schedule their time for him without consulting him first rubs him the wrong way. If he doesn’t know any better, he would have thought that she keeps doing this as a payback. Causing trouble and brushing his ego for choosing to step out of their marriage—the marriage that she had worked so hard to paint as perfect for the world to see.
But Namjoon knows better.
He knows that she has always been this way.
Even when they were still together, she always had to be the one running the show, while Namjoon would have to follow. She was the one holding the pen, writing the story for them through her rose-coloured glasses, while forcing him into a role that he never felt like he could fit into.
At one point, it caused him to lose himself.
Only that he realised it too late. Far too late, because it hadn’t just started when they got married, but long before—when they grew up together and being fed their parents’ beliefs that they would end up together once they turned adults; when they became teenagers and she insisted that it would only be right if they started dating to make their parents’ dreams come true and when she started planning their wedding day just when Namjoon was starting to find a chance to write his own story, to walk a different path, with a completely different person.
It wasn’t until he was able to find his old self and feel like himself again through the mistakes he made when he finally found the courage to leave that life. Yet, once again, he was too late.
Far too late.
“Namjoon? Do you—”
Her voice breaks him out of his wandering thoughts, only for her words to get drowned by the sound of the announcement blaring through the speakers above his head.
“Attention, passengers on Flight 345 with service to Sydney. We are now beginning our boarding process at Gate 12B. Please…”
The voice fades as passengers rush in front of him to find the departure gate, and Namjoon waits until the announcement stops before taking his palm off his phone.
“Where are you? Are you on another business trip?”
Namjoon almost laughs. He finds it hard to believe that after spending an entire fifteen minutes on call with him, she never thought about asking him where he was or where he was up to.
Business as usual. Even when it’s about our new arrangement.
“Australia. I just landed. That’s why I couldn’t take your call until now.”
“Oh…”
“You do realise the longer you’re on this call, the more expensive it will be, don’t you?”
Silence, then her bitter voice is heard. “How was I supposed to know where you were?”
You could have asked.
Sighing, Namjoon shakes his head. “Look, just text or email me all the details about Sunny’s trip. I’ll be back in Seoul Friday afternoon. Okay?”
“Okay.” Her voice softens. “Take care, Namjoon.”
The call ends, and Namjoon breathes a heavy sigh. Feeling exhaustion after speaking to her is one thing, but once it wanes, guilt always seems to take root. It doesn’t matter if he had fallen out of love a long time ago. He cannot deny that he has made too many mistakes that he is still trying hard to make up for. His decision to stay in the marriage for Sunny, using her as an excuse to hang on to the final threads that were offered to him instead of stepping away from that fallen marriage, was his last, yet probably most detrimental for his own mental health and any chance he ever had to make things right for everyone.
Including you.
Hoisting his duffle bag on his shoulder, Namjoon walks across the airport’s lot to find his ride. There is a reason why he is here, and he isn’t going to stop until he finds what he is searching for.
It takes him nearly an hour to reach his destination.
The small coffee shop looks quite inconspicuous as it stands between various other shops downtown, yet it still catches Namjoon’s eyes the moment he arrives.
Quaint and delicate, with natural wooden colours chosen as the accents at the front side of the shop and dark window frames, it reminds him so much of you.
The sound of the bell chimes above his head as he steps in, immediately welcomed by the fresh scent of coffee beans, chocolate, and a bit of cinnamon. Spicy and sweet and pleasantly warm. A young boy with a thick Australian accent welcomes him from the cashier, yet his eyes travel across the room, where the figure that has been filling his dreams at night appears.
Smiling at the young barista, he walks up towards you instead. You have yet to notice him in the room. Your eyes are locked on the small child sitting on the sofa by the corner, swinging his legs as he receives a small sip cup from your hands.
His eyes find him first, looking over your shoulder while you still have your back facing Namjoon and the front door.
“Now you sit tight right here until Mommy finishes work, okay? And don’t—”
“Mama?” the boy cuts you off before you can finish speaking, his chubby finger pointing towards Namjoon, “Da..?”
Your body freezes. Namjoon hears a soft gasp before you straighten up and slowly turn to face him. The moment you see him standing there, your eyes grow wide and you quickly move to hide your son behind you. Only the child is quick, as he hops off the sofa to stand right behind you, clinging onto your legs as he peeks at Namjoon.
A line which he read from your letter echoes in his mind as he returns the boy’s curious gaze, just as it does many nights after you were gone—
“I have a boy. He’s here. He might have a dimple on his cheek too that might show up once he’s grown a bit older. His name is…”
Namjoon bends down. “Sammy, is it?”
The boy, Sammy, slowly nods. Namjoon smiles. “You look handsome. You’re being a good boy to your Mommy now?”
“Yea…”
Chuckling softly, Namjoon straightens up to face you. Your eyes are covered with tears as you look back at him. “How—” you gasp, “What are you doing here?”
Because I’ll chase you to the end of the world if I could.
Those are the words that Namjoon has always wanted to say to you. A promise that he never got a chance to say before you left him. It was a mistake that he had been dreading the most when he first received your letter, along with a copy of your sonogram and your final word of goodbye.
“Keeping a promise,” he merely says. “I think we have a lot to talk about.”
A deep sigh escapes your lips. The sound pains him. But the sight of every tension being lifted from your shoulders gives him a sense of calm.
“I guess we do,” you whisper to him with a broken smile.
A lot of them.
He can almost hear those words coming from you. Just like he almost says out loud,
I have all the time in the world to talk and listen now. For you.
For your fall tune, I think this song will fit perfectly well for this.

Tommyinnit, Acting, and Cherry?
Take your time getting to it and congrats on 1000 followers!!
Cherry is an interesting one… and thank you!! Also, im back to my regular monday night posts due to my life getting busy again :(
Pairing: Cc!Tommy x Gn!Reader
Acting AU - Cherry
“Bite it between your canine teeth. Make it pop, got it?” The director stares at Tommy, as if trying to drill the idea into his head.
You grin at the face Tommy makes, but you silently agree. The scene needs him to get cherry juice everywhere, a joking scene between his character—Theo—and his characters best friend. You happen to be playing the so-called best friend.
The two of you have been acting together in this show for over two years. It was a comical coming-of-age, following his character Theo. Not only did it pay well, but you also loved the cast and crew. Tommy had quickly become your best friend in real life, not just on the screen.
The current character arc is that Theo is investigating his older brother, Billiam, who has been vanishing at odd hours.
“Bite it.” You mouth to Tommy, leaning back against the set wall.
“And… action!” The director shouts.
“So we follow him.” You—your character—says. “Tail him, like spies.”
“But what if he catches us? He’ll be pissed if he finds us following him.” Tommy reasons. He grabs a cherry out of the bowl on the counter, popping it in his mouth.
There’s an awkward silence as he tries to maneuver it between his teeth. The next line is meant to be his, a joke about Billiam maybe being a murderer, but that can only happen if he pops the cherry.
“Cut.” The director sighs, voice cutting through the set.
“Why can’t you have this part?” Tommy groans to you. “Id like to see you try to do this!”
“It can’t be that hard.” You laugh. At this rate, they’ll have to buy more cherries for him.
“Let’s have you switch here, actually.” The director suggests. “Tom, keep your line, but swap the cherry thing. We have to get this scene done sometime today.”
“This is why I’m better.” You joke to Tommy. In retaliation, he takes the cherry out of his mouth and throws it at you.
Jerking away, your nose scrunches up and you watch it roll over the ground. “Gross, Tom!”
“Memememe!” He grins, moving back into position for the scene to restart.
You lean against the wall again, looking over at the director.
“And… action!”
“So we follow him. Tail him like spies.” You repeat, raising your eyebrows at Tommy. Wait— you can’t reach the cherry bowl. Shit, another retake? The director is going to kill you.
“But what if he catches us? He’ll be pissed if he finds us.” Tommy answers, following your eyes to the cherry bowl. He reaches over, tossing one to you.
There’s a reason people think he’s the best improver.
You catch it, shoving it in your mouth. By some sheer luck, you manage to get it into position perfectly. You bite down, ignoring the juice that drips down your chin. That’ll be a nightmare to get off.
“See, what if he’s a murderer? We’ll be nothing but cherry juice!” Tommy exclaims, finally getting to say his line.
“Wouldn’t you want to know if he’s a murderer?” You ask, wiping your chin with the back of your hand. It smears, and you silently curse Tommy for not being the one to do this.
“…fine. But I’ll throw you in front of his axe first.”
“Deal.”
You reach your hand out, and Tommy shakes it, both of you smiling.
“Cut! Finally!” Out of the corner of your eye, you can see the director slump in his chair. “Take a break, Jesus fucking Christ.”
“You are a godsend.” Tommy informs you, slinging his arm around your shoulder. The two of you stumble off set, back toward the makeup area so you can get the cherry juice off your face. “If we had to do that one more time, I’d turn into the murderer.”
“Well, whose fault is it that they can’t bite a cherry?” You retort, elbowing him.
“Yours, obviously.”
“Oh, obviously.”
Tommy snorts loudly, grabbing his phone off the counter. “Think I can DoorDash us some actual food?”
“You know what I like, I’ll pay you back?” You offer, already salivating at the idea of food.
“Fuck yeah.” He waves at you, wandering off so he can order food without getting caught.
Hopefully, next scene won’t need 50 retakes. God, you really hope.

Rating: E (eventually)

Chapter Length: 4.2k
Previous Chapter | Series Masterlist & Info
notes: im sorry this chapter is a bit shorter than the others! if it's any consolation, a few of the chapters in this fic are 10k, so there's that. :) i've set a posting schedule of mondays and thursdays, but this week i'm posting on sunday because i'm going to be travelling on monday and i have to stay off tumblr to avoid tlou spoilers until the evening. so, surprise :)
i don't wanna look at anything else now that i saw you
“How do you feel?” Is the first thing you hear when you wake, rolling over on your makeshift bed to find Mando standing at the cave entrance again. He’s leaning against the wall with one shoulder, his hip cocked out, one leg bent casually.
Kriffing hells, how is he so attractive when all you can see of him is his posture and his impossibly shiny armour?
You force the thought from your mind, blaming it on your half-asleep state.
“I don’t know yet,” you answer with a grimace. It’s been two days since your fall. The pain is better, though the rest of your body feels stiff now, muscle soreness finally catching up with you after the tumble. There hasn’t been another storm, at least, so Mando has managed to hunt for every meal so far. He goes out to get water every morning, filling canteens to the brim. He makes you drink so much that sometimes it feels like you’re swimming in it. “Hydration helps with healing,” he says every time, even though you already know; he says it just to counter your playful glaring at him every time he hands you the flask.
“Sun rose not that long ago,” he cranes his neck to gaze up at the sky, “if you’re feeling up to it, we can probably travel today.”
You manage to sit up, but the minute you do, pain shoots down from the wound on your calf and into your ankle. It circles there around the joint and throbs. “Have we got any more ice packs?”
“One more,” Mando answers as he heads right over to his medpack and gets it out.
“We should ration it,” you hold out your hand to stop him activating it. “For when we’re travelling. I’ll probably need it.”
He looks down at the pack, hesitates. Then nods and puts it away. “Do you think you’ll be okay to travel today? If so, we should move soon, make the most of the daylight.”
Shifting a little, you try to get a gage on your body, how it feels. A grimace makes its way onto your face without your consent. Everything hurts. Literally everything. Muscles you didn’t even know you had are strained and stiff.
But you’ve been here for two days. He’s been stranded here for four.
“If the answer is anything but yes,” his voice cuts through your rapidly declining thoughts, “then my answer is no.”
Relieved, you smile. But you protest, “Mando, you’ve stayed with me so long now. I can make my own way back.”
“No,” he says definitively. “We move when you’re ready.”
You relax, settling back against the wall. You’re too sore to argue.
“The kid’s enjoying the vacation, anyway,” Mando says, the lilt of a smile in his voice.
As if summoned, Grogu steps forward from his little bed at the back of the cave. He yawns, his tiny mouth opening as wide as it can go, his eyes screwing shut.
Oh, Maker, he is adorable.
“You take time off a lot?” You ask with a wry smile as Mando scoops the kid up into his arms.
The huff of a laugh comes through his helmet. “Not really.”
“Why am I not surprised?”
Mando tickles Grogu’s cheek, earning a little giggle.
You watch them. There’s that warmth again, creeping its way between your ribs, around your heart.
You have to look away.
All three of you are starting to get a little stir crazy by the time the night comes around.
You’re feeling better, though. Mando’s hydration obsession is working to help loosen out your stiff muscles. It doesn’t help, though, that you have to keep getting up every hour to pee. Especially because you have to tell Mando every time nature calls, which is, admittedly, rather humiliating—it shouldn’t be, it’s fucking natural, but he’s Mando and he’s been making you feel a certain way, and you don’t want to have to admit to this terrifying yet comforting man that you have to piss. It’s even worse that he has to help you hobble outside, then walk away while you do your business, and come back and pretend to not notice the puddle sinking into the ground.
It’s demoralising. Your cheeks are tired from flushing red all the time.
But he insists on you drinking enough, even when you protest.
“I don’t mind doing this, you know,” he says as the sun sets, an arm around you as you hobble to the designated Nature Area.
“Yes, you do,” you grumble, kind of just wanting the ground to open up and swallow you whole.
“I don’t,” he insists. “It’s fine. Besides, it’s good to move a little.”
“A little? Mando, it’s every hour, on the hour, at this point.”
The unfamiliar sound of a soft laugh comes through his helmet. If you didn’t know any better, you’d say it sounded fond. But you’ve never heard a laugh like that. So. “It’s good. Just call me back when you’re ready.”
He never comes back until you call, no matter how long it takes you.
It isn’t lost on you, either, that you never would have been able to do this on your own. You’d have had to piss where you sat. Which seems like a worse concept than just ruining your leg, and subsequent mobility, forever by forcing yourself to walk home.
As darkness approaches, Mando takes his flashlight—yours is long dead by now—and puts it in the far end of the cave. He stays over there, rustling in his pack for something. Curious, you watch, wondering what he’s doing; he angles the light strangely, propping it up with a few stray rocks on the ground, and then fishes out a small piece of canvas, pulled from what remained of your tent. He puts it over the flashlight, folds it once.
Then, the light is softer. Diffused around the cave.
Grogu, who is sitting against the wall playing with a little silver ball, looks up at the newly-lit cave walls and laughs in glee.
“You like it, kid?” Mando asks him.
The kid claps his hands together, gazing around. Mando laughs softly and sits back down beside the kid, watching him.
You’re watching Mando. It’s impossible not to, with the soft light reflecting from his armour in a new way, casting new highlights and shadows across every curve and edge. You wonder what places he’s been, how he’d look in all kinds of light. Harsh, bright, sunshine of a bright summer’s day, the dark ashy colour beneath rain clouds.
“Mando?” You find yourself saying.
He looks up at you, one hand holding the kid.
“Tell me about somewhere else you’ve been,” you request. “Please?”
“Where do you want to hear about?”
“Anywhere. First place that comes to mind.”
For a second, he’s quiet, just looking at you. Considering. When he speaks, he doesn’t say what you expected him to, and his voice is softer than it should be. “You really want to travel, don’t you?”
And, okay.
That hits a nerve.
You look away, blinking. It’s clear that you’ve tensed, that something has made you uncomfortable; and you expect him to backtrack, to apologise, but he just waits. So patient, like he wouldn’t mind if you didn’t say anything, or even if you just told him to fuck right off. You wish you could see his face, decipher his expression. Match it to the soft curiosity of his lovely voice.
“Yeah,” you manage on a shaky breath, imagining yourself up there, in the vastness of space, free to explore the Galaxy. “Yeah, I do.”
Quiet again. He’s giving you space.
You take it, let it sink in.
Then, his voice is there again, “So why don’t you?”
And if that isn’t a question and a half. “It’s, uh,” you clear your throat. You’re about to say it’s complicated. But that doesn’t even cover the half of it. Instead, feeling a cold, familiar dread slowly creeping through your veins, you say, “I like it here.”
He doesn’t say anything, but he looks at you still, some kind of unexplainable patience coming from his dark visor.
It’s unclear if he can hear the omission of the truth.
You don’t want to lie to him.
You’re sitting here, in a cave that he so beautifully lit as best he can, on top of a bed that he made just for you to be comfortable, after he’s helped you pee about twelve times a day for the last two days. He’s been nothing but kind.
And it’s not that you feel like you owe him answers because of that. Nor, in fact, that you think he feels you owe him answers. His quiet, unassuming patience in the dim intimacy of this cave is proof enough of that.
No, it’s not that.
It’s that you’ve been alone for so long. You’ve never said this to anyone.
And after all this, once you’re back at your hut and you’ve fixed his ship together, he’s going to leave. And you’re never going to see him again, anyway.
So.
“Truthfully,” you say, “as much as I like it here, it’s not where I’d choose to be. If I had another choice.”
Instead of staying still and silent, he starts to nod. His gaze is unwavering, solid and stable, weaving its way into the tension and uncertainty beneath your skin, soothing it.
Grogu gets up and waddles over to you. He climbs clumsily into your lap.
Then, with a quick look to Grogu, Mando says, “I understand.”
And that, those simple words, make something release in your chest.
The weight of your confession doesn’t feel as heavy as you’d expected. In fact, it feels like something has lifted in the air between the three of you. Like even the kid understands.
Well.
This is new.
-
As the third morning in the cave rolls around, you wake up feeling much better.
Once you’ve relieved your always-full bladder, you tell Mando as much, staggering back into the cave and to your bed. “You can stop over-watering me now,” you tease as he lets you back against the wall, gentle. Your hands are on the backs of his arms, and slide all the way down them as he moves away. You wish you could linger there, and the way he moves so slowly, his visor gazing down into your sleepy eyes, makes you think that he wishes that, too.
As your palms brush against his wrists, he seems to catch himself. He pulls away quickly and turns to distract himself with the kid.
“So, you’re ready to travel?” He asks.
“As I’ll ever be,” you reply, staring at him from behind. He has a nice behind. (And you need to stop. Immediately.)
“You can lean on me. We’ll take it slow, I promise.”
Kriff, say that again… “I’ll be alright. You’ve got enough to carry.”
He looks at you again. “I’m leaving the parts here,” he says, like that should be obvious.
“What?” You frown. “But your ship…”
“Once we find our way back, and you’re safe, I’ll come back for them.”
“Mando, I can manage. Seriously, we should take the parts. You’ve been here long enough.”
The helmet tilts. “You trying to get rid of me?” It would concern you, if the teasing in his tone wasn’t arousingly obvious.
You just about manage to recover from the stirring in your belly, and you laugh, “Totally. Sick of you already.”
The kid, standing beside him, looks at you and makes a sad noise. His ears turn down towards the ground.
Kriff. “Hey, I’m just kidding,” you assure him with a smile. As a peace offering, you reach your hands out to him, and he relaxes in an instant, immediately plodding over to you and climbing into your lap. You hold him, give him a quick hug, then just let him sit there. “Don’t tell anyone, but I’m actually gonna miss you,” you whisper into his ear. He coos happily, tugging at a loose thread on your coat.
When you look up, Mando is, of course, staring at you. This time, you know for sure that it’s at both you and the kid.
“What?” You ask.
“Nothing,” he answers after a moment of hesitation. “I’m going to pack up. Then we can move. You okay to sit with the kid?”
“You know I am,” you smile, and watch as Mando nods and heads outside.
That pang in your chest is back. Well, you’re not sure when it turned from a slow warmth into a pang.
But it’s there. Too obvious to ignore.
For a few miles, you manage pretty well. It took some convincing, but you got Mando to agree to taking the parts along with him in the end. You do lean on him, but only when moving over particularly rough terrain, fallen logs, or exposed tree roots.
“How we doing?” Mando asks at around noon.
“Fine,” you say, feeling a little breathless.
“You sure?”
“I’m sure. We can stop soon for a break.”
Another hour passes, your ankle is starting to throb, and you’re really fucking glad that you saved that ice pack for this exact moment.
Mando sits you down on a fallen log, keeping his arm around you until you’re properly seated, lingering just a little too long for you to tame the way it makes your heart beat wildly. To feel the heat of him through his flight suit, your hands and arms pressed to parts of him not covered by armour, just the soft parts; it’s a lot. When you first saw him, this wall of metal, you never thought you’d see any further than that. Kriff, you never even thought he’d get closer to your hut than he was when you had your blaster pointed at him.
Maybe that would have been best. Because if he’d just left, if there was another way for him to get the help he needed, you wouldn’t be thinking about him the way you are right now.
The softness of the crook of his elbow, the curve of his waist and hip. The warmth of his skin that you have yet to see an inch of. All of the weapons strapped to him, so close to you, close enough that if it were anyone else, you’d be scared.
But it’s Mando.
This might be the least scared you’ve been in a lifetime.
He cracks the ice pack to activate it, then kneels down in front of you. Reaching out to grab a smaller log, he places it under your ankle, elevates your leg slightly. Then his gloved fingers tug at the hem of your trousers. “Can I?” He asks.
Kriff. You nod, unable to form words.
The rough-yet-smoothness of the gloves is all you feel at first, brushing delicately against your skin as he lifts your trousers, then unlaces your boots, gently pulling them off, followed by your socks. Your ankle is more swollen than it had been this morning, but you’d expected that.
And, besides, that is not what you’re thinking about right now.
Instead your mind can only focus on the softness of his hold under your foot, the gentle way he places the ice pack on top of it. The heat of his hand starts to come through. You wish it was his bare skin. Wish you knew what his skin is like. Is it calloused, or soft from always protecting them? Does he have scars? Is the hair on his arms dark, light, a thin covering or thicker, perfect to run your fingers through—
His hands are gone before you realise it. It takes your glitching mind a second to catch up.
You chase him with your eyes, silently wishing for him to come back.
But then.
Then.
As he turns away, he reaches for the flask in his satchel. You watch his hands lift to his helmet, take a gentle hold of the base of it. At first you panic, thinking he’s about to remove his helmet, no you don’t have to do that it’s okay—
But he just lifts it the tiniest bit, such a small movement that you only know it has been lifted because he puts the rim of his flask to his lips and takes a sip.
You can’t see his skin, not a hint of it. But you can hear him drinking, hear the water against his lips, the gentle gulps as he swallows.
And the way it entrances you, takes you away from the forest and the pain of your ankle and the fact that this is so not appropriate for you to be thinking—yeah, it’s probably for the best that he can’t ever show his face to you.
You look away before he even lowers the helmet again.
-
Maybe the worst part about all this is that you’re starting to dread Mando and the kid leaving.
That’s not how this was supposed to go, not how any of this was supposed to play out. You helped him because it was the right thing to do, because it’s exactly what They would tell you not to do, because your life has been the same every single fucking day since you got here.
But that’s been fine. It’s been safe.
“Pass me that wrench?” Mando asks, breaking you out of your thoughts.
You pass him it, noting the tilt of his helmet in a wordless ‘thanks’ before he turns back to his job. He’s up on a ladder, leaning against the ship’s exterior wall with one of the panels fully off, fixing something to do with the foundation for the body.
His ship is bigger than you’d expected. He tells you that it’s bigger than his old ship, the Razor Crest, but only by a little. “It’s a similar shape,” he’d said, “but it has two bunks and more space. For the kid.” He has a star fighter too, apparently, docked at some other base off-world with a friend of his. It’s funny to imagine him with friends, though you’re not sure why. Especially because, since getting to know him the last few days, you know how generous he is. How kind, helpful. Gentle, despite everything.
Why wouldn’t he have friends?
Beneath him, you sit on a crate and lean against the ship, waiting for him to give you more instructions. The engine has been mostly fixed now, as much as it’s ever going to be out here in the middle of nowhere using scrounged-up parts. He’s just getting the last of the body work done, enough to make sure it’s aerodynamically sound.
It’s interesting, watching him work. You ask a lot of questions, and every time you do, you expect a frustrated sigh or an exasperated response. But he answers every question thoroughly, and it doesn’t even distract him from his work.
The sun is warm against your face. The afternoon of Mando’s fifth day on this planet is drawing to a close, fading into the evening. As the sky turns to duller shades of blue, tinted with oranges and pinks, you can’t help but admire the way he looks beneath the light. His armour is always the same, always so distinctive, yet it reflects different lights in different ways. Sometimes it makes the beskar appear darker, like a gun metal grey. Other times it’s a bright silver. Then there are times like this, when it goes with the colour of the sky, reflects the beauty of everything surrounding him.
You think back to the light in the cave, how that looked different still. The urge to see the Galaxy comes over you again, though this time it’s not staring at his ship and dreaming about taking off in it that does it; this time, it’s wondering what he looks like in even more places, more environments. Does the metal get hot in the sunshine? Or is it always as cool as it’s been when you’ve had the chance to feel it before?
The kid is sitting on the ground in front of you. There’s a beetle scuttling around in the mud, and Grogu is toying with it, blocking it off when it runs one way, then doing the same when it runs the other. You wonder if he’s going to eat it, or if he’s just having fun by being cruel to the little six-legged creature.
“Don’t play with your food,” Mando says to him, answering your silent question.
Grogu looks up at him. His ears turn downwards, sulking. Mando ignores his obvious pleas to change his mind, turning back to his work. When Grogu looks back at the beetle, he only just catches it before it runs off, and instead of toying with it anymore, he just shoves it in his mouth with a loud crunch.
You find yourself smiling at him. He smiles back, ears lifting again.
“Alright,” Mando starts to step down from the ladder. You reach out and hold one of the ladder’s legs, knowing he probably doesn’t need you to, but still not wanting to risk it. Ladders make you nervous. “Think that’s the best we’re going to get.”
You look up to the ship. He’s fixed the panel back on again. Now all that remains is the burnt metal from his “interesting landing”, with some bends in it, exposing little sections of the framework beneath. It’s definitely a patchwork job. But it looks better than it did when you got here this morning. So.
“How’s your leg?” He asks as he folds up the ladder.
“Good,” you answer. It’s stretched out in front of you, propped on another crate. “Ship looks good.”
With a resigned sigh, he puts his hand on his hips, and tilts his helmet to look up at his handiwork. “No, she doesn’t. But she’ll do.” Then he looks back to you, “I couldn’t have fixed it without your help. Thank you.”
You shift under his gaze, unable to help it. Every time he looks at you it feels like his eyes can see right through you, and the part that makes you uncomfortable is that it doesn’t make you uncomfortable. Self-conscious and disgustingly aware of your own inappropriate, lustful thoughts? Yes. Uncomfortable? No. You don’t think it ever could.
“Of course,” you say eventually. “And, hey, I’ve got a scar to remember our little adventure by, huh?”
He laughs softly. You see the shake of his chest as the chuckle comes through his modulator. “I’m not sure that’s a good thing.”
“Hm, no. But there’s no gift shop around here. So.”
He shakes his head, and you imagine, hope, that he’s smiling under all that beskar. He certainly looks casual, a hand on one hip, one leg relaxed while his weight rests on the other.
“Do you always stare so much?” You find yourself asking with a teasing, daring quirk of your brow.
“Yes.”
“At everyone, or just me?”
He pauses. Your heart rate spikes briefly as you wait for his response to your terrible excuse for flirting. “At everyone,” he answers eventually, and disappointment starts to set in before he says, “But it’s harder to look away from you.”
Oh.
The disappointment quickly shifts to nervousness, heart beating fast again as you clench your hands in your lap. He just stands there, staring despite the awkward and loaded silence between you, and stares. As if he’s making his point by offering an example.
You look away. Suddenly, your cheeks are hot. “You hungry?” You find yourself asking.
He pauses again, then nods. “Yes.”
“I’ll make us some dinner. You just come back to the hut whenever you’re ready.” It’s only as you stand to hobble back home that you realise he might not want that. You swivel back around to face him, backtrack, “I mean, unless you want to eat out here. Your ship’s fixed now, I guess you can—you can stay in that? You don’t have to come back with me. I’ll be okay.”
Again, getting more and more infuriating with each silence he lets stretch out, he just stares. Kriffing hells, does he ever stop!?
“Would you let me cook for you?” He asks, finally.
You weren’t expecting that.
Shifting weight to your good leg, you raise your eyebrows. “You want to cook me dinner?”
He nods once. “Yes. To thank you for all your help. And as a farewell.”
You’ve been trying your hardest not to think about that part. It sits in your stomach, cold and dreadful and confusing, too far down for you to swallow it. “Alright,” you agree with a soft smile. “I can’t promise I’ve got any decent ingredients, though. You might have to perform a miracle.”
“I’m up to the challenge,” he says, hooking his thumb over the belt around his hips. You’re distracted by it, finding your eyes sliding down to his middle before you catch yourself and look back up. The tilt of his helmet suggests he might have seen your gaze shift. “I’ll walk back with you. Just give me a minute.”
You can’t find a reason to refuse.

It was a long ass day getting everyone settled, they'd ordered beds for one of the apartments to house the omegas and made another one into an office for The Doctor. At first Blain had seemed worried he'd be staying with the others but after getting food for them all they took him upstairs, giving him a bedroom across from Tom's. The flat was starting to get cramped and Colson was surprisingly happy about that. He always wanted a big family he just hadn't expected to end up the mother of the group. The title still didn't feel like it fit.
They'd spent so long focused on their people they hadn't even discussed what to do about Megan. It was a constant fear in the back of his mind but by the time night fell he was far too tired to worry about it. That was a Monday Kells problem and it was still thankfully Sunday. At least for a few hours more. “I gave Blain one of the company credit cards and an iPad. Told him to order whatever clothes and shit he wants for his room.” The omega sighed as he came out of his quick shower and found his mate sitting on their bed. Dom smiled up at him and held out his hand.
“Tha's sweet tha’. You sure you ready for ‘is? I mean we bout to be parents anyways but… a teenager?” Dom whispered as he pulled his lover close and took the man's towel to dry his skin for him.
“You mean a second one? You're barely older than him, babe. I'm not worried. Rook was about that age when we took him in.” Col shrugged, sighing happily at the feel of his partner massaging and drying his thighs.
“I feel older. He's just so ‘urt. I don't bloody get ‘ow he ended up ‘ere. I want to ask but I don't want ‘im feeling interrogated.”
“We got this. I'm way more ready to take in a pissed off teenager than pop out a kid. A teenager can defend himself, dude proved that today. I can break our baby just picking it up wrong for fucks sake.” He hadn't voiced a lot of his fears but as always it felt safest in the dark in their room. Dom always reassured him and kept them safe.
“You'll be amazing. You already are.” The Alpha soothed, kissing over Colson's belly after he dried it gently. Thankfully their little one was settled for a while and the omega hoped that meant he could get some real sleep.
“You're not changing your mind are you?” He asked softly, carding his fingers through wild hair. He just needed to keep his mate as close as possible.
“Course not. Jus' felt guilty. Already moved me and Tom into ya flat and now wiv the baby I worried you was jus' saying yes to Blain for me.” Dom rested his chin on the swell of their child. Colson was mostly dry but he kept his hands rubbing knots out of the older man's lower back, his fingers occasionally teasing the top of his ass. He wasn't sure what the mood was so he left the option there.
“Nah. I adopt strays and Tom likes me better anyway. You, however…” The omega teased but the pout his partner gave him was enough to stop him from going further. He could tell when there was a hint of real emotion and the boy obviously needed to feel loved. “You're my family. Full stop.” He tried to mock the Alpha's accent. “So are they and so can he be. I take people in if you haven't noticed.”
“I know. Fank you. You me family too.”
“Duh.” Col teased as he crawled into his mate's lap. With his belly between them it was getting harder but Dom kept him balanced. Their lips met gently as he reached under the killer's shirt, his touch ghosting over the other's skin.
“Should marry yas.” The Alpha purred when Colson pulled off his tee, it was an offhanded thought but one he knew in his heart was right.
“Pfft. You should. I'm fucking awesome.” Kells wasn't really paying attention, not anymore, at least not to the conversation at hand. He'd had a stressful fucking day and he wanted his bitch nude. He wasn't sure what they would do after but that was the first step.
“No Cols- fuck. Alright, never mind.” Dom finally gave up when the older man started pawing at his pants. Both their fingers reached for the buttons and got tangled, making the process even slower. After a moment he huffed softly and swat Col’s hands away which seemed to make the other man even more aggressive. Instead of fighting for his zipper the omega tangled his touch in his psycho's hair and yanked his head back till his throat was a long line to explore with his teeth and tongue. “Shite, it's like tha' is it?” The boy hissed, getting a growl in return. “Can't get out me pants wiv you like tha'.”
Kells grumbled, pushing Dom back onto the bed roughly before crawling off to stand in front of him. “Get them the fuck off then. Hurry. You know you already pissed me off today. Ruined one of my favorite hoodies. Took my kill. I should kick your ass instead of letting you have mine.”
Dominic obeyed his lover but whimpered internally. He'd hoped they'd get to be a little soft together but his mate obviously needed an outlet for the rage that filled him all day and the nervous energy of losing control of a situation. He could be a good bitch though as long as he got to feel loved after. “Wha’ ya want? You talking a lot but not saying nuffin. I'd give you me arse but it ain't like you can use it.”
Col’s eyes went wide. The way his partner back-talked him felt like their first time together. He normally enjoyed Dom pushing back but he still wasn't sure what he needed. “You think I can't fuck you?”
“Not wiv tha' belly in the way. But I fink you got a big mouf for such a pretty lil omega.”
The omega in question had left his gun on the bedside table instead of the safe with all they were going through and in the next moment he was moving to grab for it and turning it on his mate. Of course he wouldn't shoot him but he could still threaten and the way it made his lover look at him always got him wet. “That's fucking it. You think I've got a big mouth? Bitch, have you seen you? Maybe you just say you hate these things because you really like them too much. Is that it? I mean you say you hate Alphas but you're just begging to be topped. Fell in love with me didn't you? Starting to make me wonder here.”
Dom swallowed hard when the weapon’s barrel slid up over his throat to tap against his lips. He arched a brow but opened, teasing his tongue over the cold metal. He trusted his man and he knew it was perfectly clean. Colson felt warmth rush straight to his core at the sight of the boy's lips wrapping around his gun. Sometimes it truly was an extension of himself and he'd never thought it could look so overwhelmingly erotic.
“I could fuck you with it. You'd let me, wouldn't you? You like being my sweet little whore so fucking much you'd bend over and let me shove it up your ass.” He didn't know where the words were coming from and he knew he probably shouldn't say them. When Dom whimpered he knew they were crossing a new line together and they couldn't come back. Not that they'd want to. He pulled the barrel free and pointed it at Dom’s temple before he tossed it back where he picked it up. “But nah, you fucking hate those things.”
Whatever noise Dominic made was barely human but he couldn't swallow it down. The exhilaration of the moment didn't die even when the weapon moved. They'd played around with knives but never really that and while he wasn't really sure of his answer he was glad not to actually need one, with Colson he'd almost always say yes. Whatever had happened it seemed to be over, the omega needed dominance and he had it in spades. “Use me, whatever you need. M’yours.” He vowed, his hands shaking as he pushed off his slacks completely and curled his palm around his aching dick. He was hard before but now he was throbbing- his cockhead shiny with precum and his knot already pulsing, ready for whatever the hell was next.
Kells stood back and watched his good boy squirm for him. He didn't know what he wanted but he was almost scared to touch. Dom was the sociopath but he had self control problems. He'd already backhanded him twice, bit, and shot him, and now he'd threatened his ass with a gun. Literally. He wouldn't kill him but there was a part of him that needed to own him so completely there would never be a question in the killer's mind. The boy had stalked him but sometimes he felt insane in the way he loved him. As if he could devour him. One bite at a time. The Alpha already had a few scars to prove it.
“Did I do summat?”
“No, shut your mouth. I just haven't decided what to do with you yet. Did I say you could speak?”
“No but ya didn't say I couldn't. You know me mouf. Only one way to shut me up.” Dom sighed, flicking his tongue out to wet his plush lips.
“Oh yeah?” The man's voice went raspy. He really loved his mate's mouth. He had to clench his thighs to try and keep his slick from dripping on the floor but he knew it was a lost cause. “I should jack off and make you watch for that.”
“Yeah alright. But wha’ a waste of a good whore.” The normally good boy was being a right bitch and he damn well knew it. He needed to be touched even if it was with a rough hand.
Colson’s eyes flashed gold and narrowed, his lover was trying so hard to push his buttons that it gave him an idea. One that would keep him from worrying about what he might do in the heat of the moment. “You know what? No. You want me so fucking bad? I get to be the doll tonight and you take what you want.”
That stopped Dom in his tracks and he knew his eyes were crimson and wide as a deer's as he stared back at his omega. The man had to know something like that would worry him, it felt too much like being one of the Alpha's he hated. His pulse raced in his chest and sweat broke out over his skin. He accidentally squeezed his own dick too hard and had to let himself go. “Wha’?”
“You heard. Get off the fucking bed.”
Dom stumbled off the mattress and Kells took his place, letting himself spread out and stretch, arching his back just like he knew the boy liked. “Five.” He sighed as he relaxed again, folding his arms under his head and letting his thighs open. “Four.”
“Fuck.”
“You might want to touch me. Three.”
Dominic growled under his breath and fit himself between the man's legs. He waited for the next number to be uttered with a nervous smile on his face. He knew the other understood his plans but it was still something he couldn't pass up.
“Twooh fuck-” He stopped counting when his mate buried two fingers inside his drenched walls. He wouldn't torture his bitch completely but they both knew they needed more. He didn't really even want to start with foreplay, he wanted to be ruined. He wanted to feel like they took a part of each other for keeps.
“Dripping for me. Look at ya. Such a pretty wet cunt.” The Alpha didn't normally dirty talk, he left that up to his more experienced dominant but for once he let himself use his mouth for more than pleasure. “So tight for me. Can't never fuck ya open, can I? Feel like a virgin every bloody time. Sometimes ya do even bleed for me.”
Colson shivered at the darkness in his lover's tone, he wasn't used to him talking like that and the more Dom focused on his core the wetter he felt. Every thrust of his touch squelched.
“Kept me leashed all day, shoved a gun in me mouf, keep bragging bout fucking me but can't. Now ya jus' wanna lie back and get fucked? Fink you deserve tha'? Fink ya pussy tha’ good?” Dom swallowed hard, the scent of Col’s slick was heavy on the back of his tongue and it was starting to hit him; he could do whatever he wanted. Part of him wanted to eat his lover out but he knew that wasn't what they both needed. “Ain't knotting yas. Ya too close.” He huffed, pressing a surprisingly gentle kiss to his baby mumma's belly. That more than anything seemed to aggravate the man but somehow Colson kept his mouth shut. “I'll fuck you, I'll slip me dick right ‘ere and pound ya pretty cunt until you squirt for me. But right before I pop?” He paused, scissoring open his fingers and slipping them free just to suck them between his lips and lick them clean.
The Alpha moaned around the taste of him and made a filthy show of getting clean. When he finally pulled the digits free it was with a sloppy wet pop. “Right before, Imma pull out and soak you in me cum. Rub it in. Claim all of yas.” Before pulling back he pursed his lips and spit over Col’s pink folds, grinning when he could see him clench.
Dom let himself play, his fingers teasing from his base to his tip where he eased his foreskin over his cockhead and back. He knew it fascinated the other man, sometimes he woke up to Colson’s hand in his shorts just sliding it back and forth. He let himself be vocal, every time something made his nerves tingle he'd moan or whimper. If his mate wanted him to fuck he would.
The first press inside was a fucking joke. Colson knew his bitch was playing with him. The boy kept hold of himself and pushed his tip between Col’s drenched folds and slipped just inside before pulling back out. Kells refused to react, he had to prove he could keep control of at least himself but it was torture not to move. His lip rolled between his teeth and he bit down until he tasted blood. Of course Dom licked up every trace and suckled at the wound like the perfect freak he was but he just kept teasing. The omega would go mad before the kid kept his promise and made him squirt.
“Ready luv?” The Alpha purred, kissing softly against lax lips. The only answer he received was an over dramatic eye roll.
He planted his elbows on either side of Col’s head and inched inside him like he was drilling for oil- Kells supposed it wasn't so different but he knew he could take him hard. Every buck forward he sunk a little deeper, circling his hips as if in a dance. If Colson were talking he'd throw out a few playful insults, ask if the killer was taking up belly dancing. Not that he'd complain. Shit that might actually be hot.
A growl rumbled in Dom's chest, the sound joining the messy wet squelch of his dick fucking deeper and deeper inside Col’s vise like spasming walls. If not for the way his pussy reacted the Alpha wouldn't think he was wanted. He knew Col was messing with him but he needed some noise. Some bloody reaction. Sweat dripped from his hair to the other man's inked chest as their eyes met. That golden stare felt somehow needy and passive at the same time.
When the omega finally felt his lover's plush thighs against his and he knew the other's cock was deep in his guts, something in him relaxed but his need for control still reigned. Dom must have felt the change but misunderstood the reason because his next thrust was rough enough to raise Col’s ass off the bed. Hands pressed under his back as the Alpha molded their bodies together. He was careful around the belly but he obviously needed to feel and be felt in return. His beautiful face buried against the older man's neck and his fangs nipped over Colson's racing pulse. When he swallowed excess saliva he knew the boy had to feel it.
“Feel me? ‘Ow deep am I Cols? Feel me deep in ya? You can fake it all ya want but I can feel ya needy cunt. Ya can't completely ‘ide wha' I do to ya. Never could. I'm the only one who could bring ‘is outta you and I'm the only one who ever will. Every inch of you is mine from the inside-” He paused long enough to slam his cock home, hammering over Col’s spot. “-out. Ya might act like a doll but I can feel ‘ow I drive ya wild. Ya wet as fuck, squeezing me so ‘ard I can barely pull out, and ya pretty dick is making a mess of me skin.”
Colson swallowed again, his eyes blinking fast. He wasn't exactly surprised his virgin boy could be so filthy but the pride was something new and hot. It made him want to present even though he was already getting fucked. It was a war inside him. Did he give in and let his lover win this one time? Dom was obviously desperate for touch. Reaction. To see Col’s desire. Which was more important? His own need for control or his mate?
One long leg wrapped around the Alpha's back while the other planted against the mattress to meet him thrust for thrust. Fingers carded into his hair and kept their faces close and the killer grinned and almost cried. “All for you.” The omega whimpered against his lips. “All yours. Gonna prove it?”
“Fuck yeah.” The Alpha promised, happiness and pleasure warming him from the inside out. It was a strange moment of fighting back tears because his mate was trying to show him how important he was but they were also falling into each other and chasing release. Their lips met until they weren't kissing so much as breathing each other's air and he tried to slow the roll of his body to angle his hips just so. Kells fought against every measured thrust and tried to meet flesh to flesh but Dom knew what he was doing. “Let me make ya feel good.”
Colson tried not to grumble because his boy truly seemed to think he knew the omega's body and for once he was trying to give up and let his bitch lead. It was a fight to make himself still but when he let his focus fall to the way his lover felt, all his nerves seemed alive. The Alpha was gentle but sure, every move had his crown massaging Col’s spot. The fucker was so big and angled so well it felt like he was putting pressure on both his pleasure centers. It didn't help that Dom's stomach kept rubbing over his dick. The killer’s cocksure attitude was right, he was making Kells see heaven.
The coil pulled tighter with every thrust, the pressure building. For once they both fell mostly silent, just their bodies making all the noise. Their panted breaths and racing pulses felt deafening in their ears but Dom rolled his lip between his fangs and worked to make his mate break first. He wouldn't press deeper, he knew if he did he wouldn't be able to stop and though his knot was threatening, he couldn't let them lock together. A soft moan broke free from Col's lips before another. Another.
“T-there-ohfuck!” Dom tried not to smirk as his mate shattered below him, his core clenching tight as he gushed hot and messy. The Alpha never stopped moving, keeping his thrusts exact even when Col trembled and scored the skin of his neck and back.
Colson didn't know what sounds escaped him when his orgasm hit, he was floating too high. He barely noticed as his boy pushed himself up to watch until the pressure release seemed to… switch inside him.
Dominic’s heavy crimson gaze tracked Col’s cock as he came, and when pearly white became a golden stream he arched a brow but didn't stop. He'd never shame his baby mumma for letting go completely and it honestly made his hind brain proud. He'd fucked his omega so good Kells lost control. The man who needed to be so in charge of everything had broken for him. From him. It pushed him even closer to that edge.
“Jus' like tha'. Fuck. So ‘ot Daddy.” He rasped, watching the golden stream wash Col’s tats clean of his spend and drip down to soak himself and darken the sheets below. It tickled his shaft, over his balls, and dripped hot down his thighs. It was never a kink he'd thought about though it was one Colson had mentioned off hand. He hadn't even wondered about it but he found himself fascinated. In a way he felt claimed.
“Yeah?” The omega gasped. The man was fighting back embarrassment but he wouldn't apologize. Not with how his bitch was staring at his piss drenched belly. When he'd offered this up before this wasn't how he thought it would end up but fuck he couldn't say it wasn't hot. The release itself was so intense he wasn't even sure if he was still cumming or it was just aftershocks and pressure relief.
“Fuck yes.” The Alpha couldn't take it anymore, not with the fucked out sight of his mate. He thrust deep once more to soak himself in slick before pulling out and curling his palm around his cock. Kells reached to help, his fingertips teasing his tip but he was so close already it only took a few strokes to spill a mess of white heat over his target. His rapture hit so hard some of it landed on Col’s chest but he couldn't look away from the way it mixed with the other man's piss. His legs shook under him, his arm trembling where he held himself up, but until his dick twitched from overstimulation he kept stripping himself just to watch the sticky mess combine.
When Dom finally couldn't hold himself up anymore he fell next to his lover as they came down together. Both their hands found their way to Col’s belly to do exactly what he vowed. The boy smiled as he caught his breath, his fingers tracking the mess up and over the other's chest, even stopping to tweak his mate's sensitive nipples. Kells rolled on his side and wiped his palm over Dom's pink tinged skin. It wasn't fair that he was the only one filthy.
They didn't need to talk about their possible new kink, they never exactly negotiated so much as explored and discovered what worked between them. Dominic wasn't shaming him but enjoying the mess. It didn't stop the Alpha from boasting a little though and Col was proud of him for it. It was nice to see the normally quiet boy so prideful. “Look wha' I made ya do.” He purred. The smile he gave Kells made his core clench again.
“You and the parasite you gave me laying on my bladder.” Just because he loved the pride didn't mean Colson could let it go without a small playful fight. He'd given up too much control and he wasn't sure if he was okay with it. It terrified him sometimes how safe he felt with his mate.
“Bollocks. I read about it. It ain't jus' the baby. Made ya cum so ‘ard you couldn't stop ya'self.”
Col narrowed his gaze and tried not to laugh. “You read about it, huh? You googling how to get me off?” Nerdy precious fuck.
“Course. Ended up down a ‘ole after trying to find out wha’ the fuck docking were.” Kells flushed hot at his words. Docking was something he'd suggested. His boy's foreskin fascinated him and he wanted to try everything they could together. “So bloody ‘ot.” He sighed again, his palm sliding through the cooling mess on Col’s skin. The omega watched as his jade eyes flashed red again and his pupils started to blow.
“Don't even. It's bedtime.” Kells huffed, not at all surprised when Dom pouted at him. “Don't get it up again, seriously. You have to change the sheets while I rinse off. This mattress was a custom order and I'm not letting it soak in.”
“Why do I gotta change it?” The boy teasingly grumbled as he pushed himself up to help his lover out of bed. Of course he would do it but part of him wanted to sleep in the scents. He was kind of glad Colson would leave him be for a few minutes because he was desperate to roll in it.
When Col was finally standing and looking back from the bathroom door he stuck his tongue out at his bratty boy. “Didn't you cause it? You were just saying ‘look what I made you do’, didn't you mean that? It's your mess, cocky bitch. Clean it up. Then you can meet me in the shower.”
“I fhought it were the parasite’s fault.” The Alpha joked back.
“Yeah well I can't make Punk fix the bed. Don't call our baby a parasite. Fuck is wrong with you?” At Col’s teasing words Dom flipped him off but flopped onto the messy bed and wiggled in the wet spot.
“I saw that.”
“Oi! Bollocks ya did. You ain't seen me wanking the day we met and ya can't see me now.” Dominic held up both middle fingers in the direction of the treated glass wall. You could vaguely make out shadows from the other side but his omega was lying about being able to see exactly what he was doing. Kells just wanted to seem omniscient and it hadn't been hard to figure out what he did that first day since he left a mess on Col’s pillow but the man always tried to bring it up to make a point.
“You're a fucking freak. Get out of the wet spot and clean the fucking bed. If you hurry we can try that thing you looked up.”
“Luv, tha's summat you want. ‘Ow is tha' a reward for me?”
“I didn't say it was, just that I might still be horny.”
The Alpha didn't respond but he laughed to himself as he set to work changing the sheets. He never would have thought that first day that he'd end up having a family with the man let alone being so fucking in love he'd tried to propose. He'd give it time because he knew his lover heard him but eventually he'd ask again in the right way. He didn't mind that they were doing everything backwards, it worked for them. Besides, they had a long ass day and he just wanted to pamper his mate.

So this was a lot of smut 🫣 and a LOT of exploration. Let me know what you think about some of it and we can see about more in the future. I thought I'd give you a big smut chapter because we're about to hit massive plot again. I hope you're enjoying it! 💣🖤

YODEL LOST MY TWENTY ONE PILOTS MERCH!!
GIRL OH MY FUCKING GOD IM FUCKING FUMING!!!!!!!!
this is a long rant post cause fuck Yodel, If yall had issue in the UK can yall say cause i need to know if its just my area that Yodel are fucking dumb in, thanks :)
First it was meant to be delivered on the 25th May ( at my workplace WHICH WAS OPEN AND OPERATING at the time) but apparently they couldn't find the building (bullshit, we are the only ones on this road that's straight of the high street fuck off you couldn't find it) but whatever. i knew it prob wouldn't get delivered on monday (27th) as it was bank holiday. i check the tracking and it said that 'We need some more information about your address. Please chat with us' but all customer service was down as it was bank holiday. So i waited till tuesday (28th) for when their customer service to open and i contacted them about this address thing but they couldn't find anything i needed to add or change other than the option to add a 'Leave with a neighbour' option but seeing we are the only one on the street we don't have neighbours so we got that squared off. Then the customer service agent said now that done, it should be getting delivered, with no issue. But before i could ask would that be today or? the chat got cut off.
So, (like the annoying bitch i am) i when back onto the live chat and got in contact with another agent, just to ask what the possible delivery date or time would be as we operate on business hours (7am-5pm) and yodel stays delivering till like 9pm so i just wanted to know if i would have to wait around for it. and she stated that she'll check my tracking and it was currently waiting to go out with the driver for delivery and i was like oo perfect that's great i might get it today at some point, so i ended the chat and waited (this chat was at like 9am on the 28th May). after all day of checking nothing got updates on the tracking or anything. Told myself i'll wait till today 29th. So this morning i got on a chat with another agent and asked hey is this actually going out for delivery today cause yall said that it would yesterday and this is what i got in response:
'According to our tracking, your parcel has not been scanned in our network since 25 May 24 13:57:. I do apologise for the delay in your parcel's delivery. So that we can get it moving again I will need to request that your local depot conducts a search for your parcel. To make sure that we can do this as quickly as possible could you please tell me the contents of your parcel so that I can share this with our team? Kindly confirm that the email address is the correct one to receive the notification.'
Like hey what do u ment you've not seen it or had it in your system since the 25th. i asked the customer service agent like does this mean its lost or what like??? AND HE JUST ENDED THE CHAT ON ME!! like huh!?. so at this point im starting to get really annoyed cause what why am i being told different things.
So i hop on the live chat AGAIN. this agent was actually super nice and helped me (sort of) . i told them i was sent that message and the chat was cut off, that i was confused on what's actually happening. he was like it might not be lost it might be misplaced. like girl THATS JUST ANOTHER WORD FOR LOST THE FUCK? so i was like whatever like what's going to happen now and they were like we will contact your local depot and have them do a search and you will get an update hopefully within the next 24 hours.
i predicted this would happen i made a post on like the 23/24th May that i hated yodel and literally have never got it right losing shit or delivering it to the wrong place or sayings it delivered when it wasn't. like im so close to emailing the TOP online store to be like why use yodel it's the worst rated one in the country. like why not use royal mail or evri like i would actually celebrate if they did evri and they are also the fucking worst.
i work in customer service like its my active job to help customers with shit like this yall are actually badddd, anyway if i don't get an update or its not delivered by the end of the week(Sun 2nd) imma contact the TOP shop and see if they can push them on the business/corporate side as they obvs don't care about the customers.
#like i KNEW something would go wrong.#anyway fuck yodel on a fucking molecular level#if i ever run into a yodel worker it is on SITE i don't care#if i dont get an update by the end of the 30th imm find the local depot and just go their and break in and find it my damn self#LIKE HOW DOES IT GO MISSING FOR LIKE 4 FUCKING DAYS AND NO ONE FUCKING NOTICES after i've contacted you 2 separate times#i spent close to £100 like i would like my stuff thanks.#did not think in the year of 2024 i would be a royal mail and evri defender but this is what yodel has made me#if its been stolen omfg i will lose my mind.#yodel#long rant post#rant post#fuck Yodel#Yodel#twenty one pilots#top#clancy#twenty øne piløts#twenty one pilots merch#clique

its a fucking shitshow at work tonight
so we have two groups in-house until Monday. We had 6 no-shows but checked them in anyway because lots of reasons i wont go into cause its unimportant.
A few hours ago a guy left his room and after the door latched the keypad lock DIED. We spent an hour and went through plan A, B, C, & D to try to get the door open. No such luck. We called and woke up our manager, and after telling her everything we tried, she said theres nothing else we can do short of disassembling the door lock, but then he wouldnt be able to latch his door. Have to wait for Maintenance in the morning (8am). We'd normally move him to an empty room but were sold out. Cause he can't sleep in the lobby, we made the decision to move him into one of the no-shows rooms. Two hours later, and guess who shows up? The ONE room out of the 6 no-shows that we gave to the guy who got locked out. So the only way we could move her to a different room was to checkout one of the no-shows (who again, all of them are supposed to be staying through Monday). So i checked her into the room that i just checked out. Now thats a fucking mess and a half to sort out as it is, so god fucking forbid any of the other no-shows show up, because we'll have to do more checkouts and transfers, which will only dig deeper the sinkhole of a situation.
Mind you right after all this is happening and im still frazzled as fuck, one of the ladies who lead one of the groups comes to checkout but is asking to make sure her employees with the group are set to checkout on the 2nd. She doesnt know the room numbers. Only other way we can look up the right rooms is by searching the rate code (employees and students were checked in under the same code, so that wont help), by searching the company name (again, students and employees have the same company name, so that wont work) or by searching the last names. She gave me like 4 different last names. Two of the names werent even in our system, the other two of them had completely different first names than what she told me. She said thats not them. Only other way i could help her is to use the confirmation number, which she had. Found one of the rooms using the confirmation number, and turns out it was under a completely different name. The confirmation number was correct, so i changed the name. The departure date was wrong, so i pushed it through our system, which is gonna oversell us for that day (oh fucking well im leaving that shit for the managers to figure out). She asked about the other rooms, and i asked for those confirmation #s. Apparently she only received ONE confirmation for the 4 rooms, so i literally cannot find those other rooms. She was definitely frustrated and needed to catch her flight, so I asked her if she can have her associates stop by the desk whenever theyre able so we can use their keys to pull up their room numbers and fix all this (sales dropped the ball on that, because if the one room had an incorrect departure date, it means the other rooms do too, which is going to fuck up our inventory even MORE. Yay.) After she leaves, i check her out, only to realize her departure date was the 1st. We're not supposed to check group rooms out early unless sales gives the ok. So i fucked up yet another thing.
To add on all this shit, because ive been running around half the night i didnt get to do my paperwork when i was supposed to, which takes me about an hour and i usually finish it around 3am. Its currently 5:30am, i only just finished my paperwork 10 minutes ago, and im finally on a very short break. Fuck my stupid baka life
#I know i work nights at a hotel & normally its super chill & quiet but what the fuuuuuuuck bro#Im literally at my wits fucking end because IVE been the one doing all the running around to fix this hoooooly shit im anxious#fuck my stupid fucking baka life tbqh#work tag#emma rambles

Bartley: He’s a bit of a liability but he’ll come round, probably
Carly: I hope he does to yous all
Bartley: There’s only so wild people will put up with but he’s not like that bad
Bartley: long as he’s grafting, not fucking with other people’s families, he’ll not be going anywhere
Carly: yea, he’ll come grand once he grows up
Bartley: Still be a gobshite and a poser but you know
Bartley: worse crimes
Carly: yous lads have all committed them
Bartley: Not my family, not like his, their daddy lets them get away with all the stuff he still wants to
Carly: don’t start me on their daddy, I know my place that much
Bartley: Don’t be grim, or accuse him of that sort of carry on, people get strung up by their balls for less
Carly: not me who hes carrying on with if hes round this caravan
Bartley: There you go, how can any of them be expected to carry themselves with respect when he’s their example
Bartley: If their mammy had any backbone yours would be without hers, you don’t make it that obvious, in front of her and everyone she’s to live with, feeling sorry for her
Carly: sure, ive no argument there, sorry if youre expecting 1
Bartley: I know you don’t like yours as much as she reckons it so
Carly: I like her how any girl of my age does her mammy, problem lies in her not wanting to act the part
Bartley: or her age
Bartley: I’ve seen you go all dead when she’s acting the maggot, it’s pure shaming, no one proper blames you for her being that mental
Carly: everyone instead reckons i take after her id rather the blame
Bartley: It’s just the same as them, how are you to be better, you’ve no daddy to take the pair of yous in hand either
Carly: Im not mental though
Carly: whatever else I am im not, k? Youve to know that’s so
Bartley: I didn’t say you were, only as a joke
Carly: i cant laugh @ it sorry
Bartley: Alright, alright
Bartley: you’re hanging, I get it
Carly: I hate that youve 👀 me away 💀👻
Bartley: The others don’t notice, not that they’ve ever said and it’d be a weird thing for me to bring up to ‘em
Carly: whyve you?
Bartley: I dunno
Carly: if youre to be looking @ me im to put more effort into being prettier 💄💅✨
Bartley: you’re not
Carly: i know im not thats where the effort is 🎀
Bartley: Leave off with that, you know what I meant
Carly: are you leaving off 👀?
Bartley: I weren’t looking through your window at night, don’t make it sound weird
Carly: its weird u know something they all dont but no surprise
Bartley: Maybe Ro knows, seeing as you twos are so close these days
Bartley: wouldn’t be after telling you if he did
Carly: wes further apart than ever these days but thats my own fault so
Carly: theres only ali who ive let 👀 can’t stop her same as you
Bartley: You can’t stop me
Carly: I dont want to
Bartley: There you go then
Carly: what do you want boy?
Bartley: you talking my ear off, what do you want, girl
Carly: if that was true youd of stayed w me @ the party not your girl [her name]
Bartley: I were being polite, you’ve already been told
Carly: you don’t like me when im high
Bartley: Not really, no
Carly: but I don’t myself when im sober
Bartley: I’ve seen it before, you’re too young and not a bloke
Carly: idk how to make you understand what youve not seen
Bartley: Probably not my business, you don’t have to
Carly: probably cant be inviting you to look in my windows or you’ll be 😤😠 @ me
Bartley: You like mental, even if you don’t wanna be called it
Carly: nobody likes for proper mental
Bartley: nah?
Carly: im not after being locked up where ali’s brother is
Bartley: that’s a bit different, Carls
Carly: i dont feel no different to it unless i take something that changes how
Bartley: They reckon he killed her, you’ve never done nothing like that, don’t be stupid
Carly: he never she killed herself & sometimes I get why you know
Bartley: you’re not to say things like that
Carly: im no catholic saying or doing isnt off limits
Bartley: We’re right and that’s wrong though
Carly: is it?
Bartley: Yes, you twat, shut up about it
Carly: see, you dont like us when I’m not high neither
Bartley: Why would you say that? Nothing is that bad, is it
Carly: cos
Carly: idk [her mum] had this fella round whos bad enough & i thought hed away when i took myself off w ali but hes no moved himself all that far
Bartley: Go on, what’s his craic?
Carly: - craic
Bartley: Yeah but
Bartley: you seem scared or like, idk
Carly: im too tired to b on how she wants or turn him off hows needed 🥱😴
Bartley: Get him to go outside for a smoke or something
Bartley: just give me a bit, to sort it, yeah
Carly: im not bringing my trouble to you
Carly: no, like
Bartley: We’ve all sisters and nieces here, why do we want that sort on our site
Carly: hes been told im older theyre all of them lied to shes my big sister or best mate, its her craic
Bartley: She’s delusional, he’s got eyes
Carly: men use em to see what suits not whats real
Bartley: Not proper men
Carly: come on shes never filling this caravan up with proper men
Bartley: She can’t be trusted with anything, obviously
Carly: ill go back out idc
Bartley: For God’s sake
Carly: youre invited unless youve work on tomorrow
Bartley: you can’t just bring that up and then drop it like that
Carly: I can’t do fuck all else & im to be sure not letting you
Bartley: I wouldn’t on my own, I’m not thick, I told you give me a second
Carly: you might still be hurt hes a grown man & youre not no older than me
Bartley: No I won’t, I know how to fight, tah
Carly: idk that he dont too, catch yourself on, will u
Bartley: he’s to be outnumbered, calm yourself down
Carly: rich of you telling us to be calm when youre about to 💪🥊🤕
Carly: stop yourself please
Bartley: why should we?
Carly: i said please
Bartley: You should want it handled, why would you not
Carly: how you mean to handle it’ll knock me 🤢🤮 worrying over you
Bartley: None of us will get hurt and he shan’t come back, whatever lies your mammy is telling, it’s easy
Carly: its my fault if any of yous do & even if it werent i care whatever happens
Carly: more than I ever am about where that fella puts himself
Bartley: Why would you tell me and then say we can’t do anything about it
Carly: idk 😵💫 i didnt mean to
Bartley: For God’s sake, girl
Carly: I’m sorry
Bartley: Forget it just get out of there and go find Ali
Carly: shes busy or id not have left her
Bartley: go sit in [the communal middle bit where they have the bonfires and whatnot, you know where I mean] then
Carly: [do and send a pic from there, not of you because you don’t wanna show yourself in the state you’re clearly in, but so he knows you’re there]
Bartley: Alright, good
Carly: i’m doing what im told you have to yourself & not have a scrap w my ma’s latest
Bartley: I shouldn’t listen to you, by all rights
Carly: but youre decent, a good boy
Bartley: Calling me that isn’t helping your case, like
Carly: what’ll I call you then like?
Bartley: Call you a pisstaker
Carly: idm id have heard worse if i stayed in
Bartley: you’ve not convinced me not doing anything is the right thing to do
Carly: do something else & you’ll quit thinking about it
Bartley: I shan’t
Carly: im grand now
Bartley: You could’ve put some clothes on, you’ll freeze
Carly: where are you even 👀 from? fuck
Bartley: out my window, which is the opposite of what you said, don’t act like I’ve got a hockey mask and a baseball bat
Carly: don’t look @ me for the now how about 😳
Bartley: You need a blanket, something
Carly: im no going in for it id sooner 🥶
Bartley: [throw one out of your window, can’t just come out, obviously]
Carly: [go grab it and wrap it around yourself while stood right next to his window, could just wait til you’re back seated so he can’t see you as well but obviously we’re not gonna do that]
Bartley: [doing the smallest wave as if you are locked in here, stepping back and out of sight after a pause like that’s enough]
Carly: [doing an oh you kind of lol before she heads back to where she was before, looking over her shoulder as she’s walking though cos you know he’s still lurking even if you can’t see him]
Carly: 💚👽🌱🦗🍐🍃🍏🍀🧃🥝💚
Carly: still idk what to do w how sweet u can be
Bartley: I’m not sweet and I know what it’s shorthand for
Carly: i dont tell us
Bartley: Yeah you do and it’s why you go for lads like Mosey who aren’t sweet
Carly: i got wrong reckoning he was or could be
Bartley: That’s the mammy in you, reckoning he could do no wrong when he’s so sweet when he wants something
Carly: nah its the little girl in us he said hed protect me & I so bad wanted him to
Bartley: He were never after that, don’t think it’s important to
Carly: im stupid
Bartley: if you’d have known, wouldn’t have half the success rate he does, you’re not the only one who falls for it
Carly: 1 of these days youll answer that I’m not 🎱🔮
Bartley: one of these days, you’ll act it, yeah
Carly: took the blanket for a start
Bartley: It’s a start
Carly: & your 👋💚
Bartley: You were doing your best Samara impression, be why
Bartley: 😶 not move on else
Carly: k you hate being called sweet enough to b after me taking it back 🍋💔
Bartley: A bit like your costume
Carly: was gonna do her from the exorcist but it felt like tempting fate for 🤢🤮
Bartley: Be gas to see your head do a 360 though
Carly: oh would it now
Carly: im fair flexible but idk if id go that far
Bartley: Not an 🦉
Carly: ill do you that carry on when shes off down the stairs
Bartley: 🤣 will ya now
Carly: yea
Bartley: Wait ‘til the next party, would look pure nuts doing it out there on your own
Carly: wait til im somewhere w for proper stairs
Bartley: can’t call anything ‘round here more than steps, true enough
Carly: maybe for your birthday 🎁
Bartley: Where are we after going with stairs then 😏
Carly: id say ali’s but your girl would probably be there & outshine me w her 🎭🩰🎨🎬✨
Bartley: You don’t need to call her that just ‘cos we can’t remember her name
Carly: shes that cos shes after you so bad
Carly: her name’s [whatever it is]
Bartley: Only for the night
Carly: all the nights yous are in the same place
Bartley: And how often do I find myself at 🎭🩰🎨🎬✨ shit, girl?
Carly: you liked it at ali’s did you not? & you wasnt behaving so as youd never be invited again
Bartley: She’s decent craic, sure
Carly: ali or [this gal]
Bartley: Ali
Bartley: I don’t know about her family, mind
Carly: i told you her sisters not well like

Carly: ill find my hairbrush out before to not scare yous
Bartley: and no pea soup if we watch The Exorcist too
Carly: pissing myself on your carpet would be - craic too but its k ill not be out here in your blanket til then hed not the stamina to have
Bartley: If he’s not gone by [a time we’re deeming too late for her to be outside by] I swear
Carly: oh hes laying down the law
Carly: are you to be my brother or my daddy now?
Bartley: Behave yourself, it isn’t funny, all this
Carly: am like a 🐶 left out sure enough
Bartley: She’s such a
Bartley: you shouldn’t have to do this
Carly: [excuse me being EVIL by saying this man comes outside to smoke and is literally and blatantly chatting Carly up like she isn’t 12 years old, here not replying because we’re here going dead again while this man is the most grim]
Bartley: [not you having to rush out so dramatically this man is gonna be shook until he sees you’re just a teenage boy, coming over and putting your arm around her shoulder like come on, get up, trying not to look at or acknowledge this creep right now because you’re blatantly fuming]
Carly: [this poor girl has left the building because you just know that gross man was too in her grill and touching her and I’m soz we cannot, purely moving because this boy is moving her rn, the audacity of her mother and the boyfriends she picks]
Bartley: [direct her into your caravan via holding her shoulders, this man better hush because if this boy has to fight you, his fam will come out and fuck you up, gotta know where you are, honey; sit this girl down on your sofa like all that’s happened is a change of seat and your jaw isn’t clenched so tight you feel like it’s stuck that way]
Carly: [get back inside to the age appropriate lady or leave sir those are your choices, you can’t be that stupid, god only knows how long poor Carly will stay put before she’s finally back in the room and then is hugging her knees to her chest, still wrapped in this blanket, and risking a look at this boy like he’s gonna be mad at her instead of the fucked up circumstances in which she finds herself through no fault of her own]
Bartley: [not really helping you think otherwise with our face like thunder over this but can’t help being that bitch I’m afraid, the way we kept glaring out the window ‘til that dude went away and are now just pacing lowkey, putting the telly on, as you pass and clearly catch her eye, like that is the most comforting thing you can manage in these circumstances]
Carly: [looking away from this boy SO immediately when he catches your eye because genuinely feel like a kicked dog in this moment as if everything is your fault and you’ve done the wrong thing over and over again from the second you got back from having fun with Alison ‘he’s gone, I’ll myself’ taking this blanket off and trying to neatly fold it but you’re all shaky and upset so you can’t and it feels like an impossible task ‘sorry’ as if it’s for the folding fail and not everything]
Bartley: [the ‘wait’ coming out a bit too fast and loud, so you’re going redder than your mad face already is because don’t want her to think you’re scared of this man, kicking this blanket aside because I highly doubt you’re neat, you’re teenage boys with your own space lmao and you could not care less about said blanket right now ‘just chill’ as if that’s an easily achievable thing]
Carly: [when it makes you jump because it’s sudden and loud and you didn’t expect him to say it or anything in fact and that makes you feel even more embarrassed and sad than you already do, like there are literal tears coming to this girl’s eyes about it that she’s trying not to shed in front of this angry boy ‘I can’t’ so quietly because you dare not express how !! and true that is when you already think he thinks you’re mentally ill ‘I’d-’ stopping yourself cos you were about to say something about needing to get drunk/high again there and you know he hates it and doesn’t understand ‘I can’t’]
Bartley: [‘please don’t’ when you’re saying please but you’re also wincing because you in no way know how to handle this or what you’re meant to do now she’s here and so are you ‘you’re to tell her never again’ as if this is a thing that will work because got to say something and it should be a warning she listens to ‘or I will’]
Carly: [‘I’ve tried for years and years’ in that resigned way of you have and it hasn’t changed anything ‘at the first, I think I was 10, Christ knows how old I looked to him’ with a shrug because you do know, you aren’t a girl who looks older and that’s the tea]
Bartley: [just cursing this man out in your own language, as well as all the others before, under your breath but so angrily ‘you’d be better off without her’ as the thing you say in English and more directly to her]
Carly: [when you probably understand most if not all of what he’s saying anyway because you’ve always lived here and thus have picked it up like a 2nd language basically ‘she’s my ma, still’ said like whether she acts it or not because she absolutely never does but you have love for her and want her to nevertheless]
Bartley: [the noise of scorn that honestly deserves at this point, ma’am, shaking our head because ‘my point remains’ throwing yourself down into the armchair/other sofa because a lot of pent up emotions and nowhere to put them right now so having to do everything in a dramatic fashion]
Carly: [‘without her I don’t know where I’d be’ because truly where would they put you gal ‘except not here, sure look, maybe that’d be better but I’m not after going off’ just like this is my home soz everyone]
Bartley: [still shaking your head, shrug your shoulders, only stopping shaking your head when you put in your hands and breathe out in frustration]
Carly: [‘yeah’ like yeah I know, cos we’re frustrated by our lot in life too sir but we don’t feel like there is anything we can do to change it other than the unhealthy coping mechanisms we have]
Bartley: [‘your room have a lock on it?’ in such a matter of fact, resigned kind of tone because you don’t know what else you can do right now]
Carly: [shake your head because you’re not the sort of girl to be doing DIY like that to keep yourself safe, Ali is but you’ve clearly not expressed how badly you need one and it’s not every dude your mother brings home who’s acting like this ‘but I’ve the bathroom’ like that’s fine]
Bartley: [looking at her like no it is not before looking to the TV you put on as if you’re watching it remotely ‘we’ll put one on’]
Carly: [looking at him only when he’s looking at the TV despite the fact we all know he can feel it ‘okay’ quietly cos we’re accepting this not fighting him on it or saying anything bants etc]
Bartley: [not looking back, just nodding because can’t commit to any more, switching the channel, to something you can at least say you want to watch, opposed to whatever just came on when you put this telly on]
Carly: [getting up to go like you can just quietly slip out like a little ghost as though you were never here but obvs stopping before you get to the door and turning back like - because you wanna thank him for what he did but you don’t know how to because it feels SO big, literally nobody cares about this girl but Alison and that cannot be overstated ‘you are decent, a good boy’ said sincerely like no bants or lies detected]
Bartley: [looking over at her like you did not just say that but you can’t help but do a little smirk, almost as if it’s against your will with how tiny it is but still, rubbing the back of your neck ‘away with you now’]
Carly: [doing a lil smile back because she can’t help that either ‘you’re not to watch me’ like he’s gonna be at the window lurking until she’s inside when it’s not far to go at all, but ofc said like he absolutely can and she doesn’t mind because she doesn’t and in fact wants him to, wrapping her arms around herself in preparation for how cold it’ll be outside and how much she doesn’t really wanna head back there cos her mum will either be in a mood this man has left and wanting to overshare about it or her bestie as per and wanting to keep the party going and neither is the wanted vibe]
Bartley: [flipping her off for calling you a stalker but you’re grinning back more openly so she knows you’re all good here, even if you know what her mother is like and do not envy her going back, you can’t offer her an alternative ‘take the blanket’ as a throwaway comment as she hugs herself because it do be chilly]
Carly: [doing the kind of pure and happy lol she did at bonfire night which is usually reserved for Ali only and/or being high as she slips out of the door, waving off his blanket offer like no no I couldn’t possibly ‘it’s yours’ as if he needs it more here for his TV watching]
Bartley: I’ll get you a lock after work tomorrow
Carly: 🔒💚
Carly: ill sleep for the knowing of it
Bartley: I’m glad, go get some, said you were tired
Carly: you’ve work ill let you get your head down bb
Bartley: 👌

etsuven's first kinktober: day 1/8
day 1| day 2| day 3| day 4| day 5| day 6| day 7| day 8|
rating: smut cw: light cursing includes: dom reader ofc, corruption kink though like not really idk, xiao is very supportive of and patient with his lover it's very cute, it's not like full smut there's plot and stuff but it does take a bit to get there, inexperienced! xiao and kind of experienced! reader, reader licks up a bit of xiao's... and kisses him summary: xiao learns about how lovely pleasure is...
note: hello! welcome to my first kinktober!! as those of you who are regulars may know already, i am AWFUL with schedules and writing frequently, which is the reason why im doing only 4 days instead of the regular 31. for a little summary, i will be posting something kinktober related every monday of october! (my original plan was to do mondays and fridays but i'm running late on my writing so only mondays for now! though i am planning to post the friday ones as well.) hopefully i can satisfy you guys this year!
nighttime tended to be your favorite part of the day. you could wind down, distance yourself from the things that happened that day, and let your mind run wild.
but sometimes, your thoughts ran a bit too wild.
thoughts of you and your boyfriend of a little over a year in increasingly scandalous positions ran through your mind, making your face warm up in embarrassment at just how vulgar they were. images of you on top of him, his face flushed bright pink as he moaned out just for you, begging you to just let him-
you kept yourself from going further in an attempt to keep the pure nature of your boyfriend from becoming tainted. he was so sweet, and he always made sure you were satisfied and happy before he left to do his duties. but sadly, you knew you couldn't keep the feelings at bay.
you couldn't keep this to yourself for much longer, so with a shaky voice, you called the name of your lover.
xiao appeared in front of you, jade spear in hand as a rush of wind swept through the room. you shivered, your loose pajamas waving around you and brushing against your skin.
"is something wrong?" he spoke, his soft yet raspy voice reaching your ears. hearing a soft tap against the ground, you looked up at your lover from your bed, watching the gold particles from his weapon disappear into the air.
you began to play with your fingers, and xiao took that as a signal to sit in front of you and wait until you had the courage to speak. even though it took a few seconds and deep breaths to calm your heart down, you finally decided to speak up about what had been plaguing your mind.
"xiao," you started, your voice soft. you were always confident in speaking about what you desired from your boyfriend, but it seemed to be so hard right now. perhaps it was because you felt dirty about it? taking in another deep breath, you looked xiao in his eyes.
"how... how do you feel about being more intimate?" the words rushed out of your mouth, and you watched as your lovers' eyes widened, his cheeks turning a pretty shade of pink as he attempted to process what you had just said. "you- you mean... sex?"
nodding quickly, you scooted closer to the man, holding his hand as a way to keep him calm. "well, yes... i've been thinking of it for a while now, and i was wondering if you'd be willing to try it one day."
xiao took a while to answer, as his thoughts were currently running wild. don't get him wrong, he definitely wanted to do this with you, and he had definitely thought of you in a less than innocent way at one point, but he had no idea what to do.
xiao gulped nervously, making eye contact with you before speaking. "i'd like to do it with you- but you might need to teach me a few things..."
-
and that's how you ended up straddling your boyfriend, one leg in between his and the other next to his waist as you made out. xiao's hand was tangled in the thin fabric of your shirt, soft moans and whimpers leaving your mouths as your tongues grazed against one another.
you pulled away with a gasp, watching with awe the strand of saliva that kept the two of you connected. xiao inhaled sharply through his nose, throwing his head back as he tried to steady his shaky hand. clearly had been affected by the kiss, but you didn't have to look at him to know the effects you had on him.
after all, your leg was pressed up right against his semi-hard cock.
the two of you looked at each other with half lidded eyes, and you smiled at the sight of xiao's flushed cheeks. unable to resist the urge, you leaned down to kiss them, grinning more at the small laugh he let out before the sound quickly tapered out into a gasp.
you began to kiss down his neck, reveling in the feeling of your lover pulling harder at your shirt. a particular kiss made him flinch and gasp again. "what- what was that?..."
you laughed, and xiao began to squirm at the feeling of your breath against his neck. he went into this knowing that it would feel nice, but the two of you hadn't even gotten to the good stuff yet, and he was already a mess. who knew how long he would last when you eventually went even further...
"your neck must be sensitive. if i suck at it a bit, it'll leave a mark," you spoke, taking a quick lick at the sensitive spot. "would you like me to leave a mark?"
xiao nodded quickly, and you grinned at his eagerness.
you began to suck and nibble at the spot, and the reaction from your lover was instant. he grasped at the back of your shirt, almost pulling it off of you as he used it as leverage. a choked moan left his mouth, and he threw his head back against the pillow at the feeling of you nibbling at his neck.
feeling something move against your thigh, you looked down, noticing that xiao had begun to unconsciously grind against you. leaving a quick kiss to soothe the steadily forming bruise, you reached down, brushing your hand against his clothed cock.
"can i touch you?" the sudden whisper surprised your boyfriend, but he quickly found himself nodding, his heart beating wildly as he watched you pull his pants down. his cock gently slapped against his stomach, twitching slightly at the cold air against it.
you wrapped your hand around it, and at that moment- xiao couldn't think. he could only focus on how warm your hand was, how you squeezed him just tight and- oh, god, you were moving it.
he wouldn't last long, and both of you knew it.
you began to quickly pump his cock, basking in the sounds of his moans as he tried to squirm away from the sensitive feeling. the sticky sound of you jerking him off and his moans echoed through the air, clouding your mind with a hazy feeling.
"fuck, could you-" xiao gasped, grasping at the now wrinkled sheets on your bed. he continued to squirm, and occasionally he would cry out and move in a way that made his pretty back arch. "just squeeze the top of your hand a bit, please, i'm so close!"
the last few words jumbled together into one long word as you did what he said, a small thought of if he ever touched himself like this crossing through your mind.
a chorus of 'yes's' and 'please's' echoed through the room as xiao's breathing began to quicken, ultimately culminating in a muffled moan into a pillow that had somehow gotten into his arms and over his face.
some of his cum splattered onto your hand, and a little bit went onto the bottom of his shirt and the bedsheets. you looked at the substance on your hand with, taking note of how xiao was staring at you with half lidded eyes as he basked in his post orgasm feeling. it wouldn't hurt to tease him a bit more, right?
you licked a long stripe up your hand, picking up the droplets of his cum and watching as his eyes widened in shock. xiao sat up quickly, about to pull your hand away from your mouth before you placed your clean hand on the side of his neck.
you pulled him in, kissing him and feeling as he melted into your touch, moaning slightly at the taste of himself. you pulled away, smirk on your lips as you took in his flushed expression.
"that was dirty." he spoke, voice shaky and slightly hoarse from him moaning. you shrugged, pressing your forehead against his and watching as his eyes closed at the soft contact. "i know. want to go a bit further?"
your boyfriend let out a small 'yes', and leaned in to kiss you for what definitely wouldn't be the last time that night.

***
If your suspicions were correct you were fucked. Part of you would be ecstatic no doubt about it. But if things were true then you were utterly surly fucked.
Your period was late.
Which meant either one; your birth control was acting up or two; you were pregnant.
However being pregnant wasn’t a bad thing, far from it. The bad thing was that there were two candidates in the running to be the father. Your boyfriend, Agent Anderson who was nothing but a sweetheart even though he was about as exciting as a wet paper bag.
Or Dr.Spencer Reid. Your best friend who you had also been sleeping with outside of your relationship. The best man you’d ever known who was also aching to become a father some day.
For a week you had been avoiding both of them in the office. Unfortunately for you there were no cases. While yes a lack of serial killing was always a plus it also meant you were stuck in the same building as them for give or take eight hours a day.
For days on end you stuck in your earbuds and kept your head down while doing paperwork trying to ignore both sets of eyes which would look over to you every once in a while.
Were you even pregnant, was the biggest question. So you had decided that it was time to get your shit together. At lunch on Monday you had made a quick doctors appointment and went on your way. The little old nurse had told you she would call you in a few days with results.
In that time you had gone over every possible scenario or possibility. Who would you tell first? How would you even bring it up? Would Anderson hate you for cheating? Would Spencer be upset that the baby isn’t his? It would be like another JJ situation for him.
The thoughts plagued your mind throughout the week and the more you thought about it the more you thought about who you would have preferred to be the father of your child. Which then led to the guilt of picking and the realization that you in fact would have to break up with Anderson.
If the child did end up being his you would have to make it work, however you knew it was time to come clean and apologize for going behind his back. He deserved to know the truth.
Deep in your thoughts you barley heard your phone ringing. It was now Friday and you weren’t expecting any other calls besides the one from your doctor. You looked around and made sure no one was paying attention before you clicked the green button.
“Hello?”
You heard the voice of the nurse on the line, she sounded almost sad, “Hello am I speaking with Y/n Y/l/n?”
“Yeah this is her,” you said dryly. Your nerves were eating at you.
“Oh sweetie I’m calling with the results of your test. It turns out that you are not pregnant at this time honey.”
You let out the breath you didn’t realize you held in. It felt as is a weight was lifted off your shoulders.
“Oh, um thank you for informing me,” you said looking down at your nails.
“Of course. If you have anymore questions you can call back at this number or come in and set up another appointment. Have a good rest of your day.”
With that the line cut off and you fell back into your chair. Your hand subtly moved onto your stomach. Huh. You didn’t think that would be as hard to hear.
“Y/n?” a voice called from behind you.
“Oh hey Andy. Whats up?” you said putting a smile on your face.
He combed a hand through his hair before he sat at the corner of your desk, “I’ve been meaning to talk to you and I think it’s best if I say it clearly and honestly.”
Your brows furrowed. Oh shit did he already know? You had to stay calm.
“Yeah go ahead.”
“I think we should break up. It’s not you, I think we’re just missing a spark. At first it was fun but I don’t think this is gonna work anymore.”
Pot meet kettle, you thought.
“Plus I think Charlotte from Cyber Crimes is into me so yeah,” he trailed off.
You bit your lip to try and hide the laugh you wanted to let out. This was an unseen turn of events. “Yeah I get it. But hey no hard feelings. Go for it with Lotte, she’s a total sweetheart.”
“Thanks Y/n/n,” he said leaning down to give you half hug then gingerly turned and walked away.
Behind you Spencer couldn’t help but listen to the whole interaction. Once he saw Anderson reach the elevator he got up and made his way over to your desk.
You looked up and saw the small smile on his face, “Is it party at Y/n’s desk today?” you asked causing him to giggle.
“I think the news I just heard calls for celebration in the best way we know don’t you think,” he said looking around the bullpen nodding his head towards the hallway which was home to the spacious supply closet.
You looked around and made sure no one was looking. Emily and JJ were gone in Garcia’s lair. Derek was gone visiting his mom and the dads of the BAU were in a meeting.
“Lead the way doctor,” you said standing getting up form your chair.
Once in the closet Spencer wasted no time in pressing his lips to yours. He sighed at the taste of your cherry chapstick. You put your hands on his face pulling him down but while you were savoring the taste of his lips your mind couldn’t help but go back.
You could have been a mom. Spencer felt your lips slow down instead of returning the passion and stepped away.
“What’s wrong?”
“There’s something I need to tell you,” you said looking up at him.
He tried to hide the look of worry on his features but you could see right through him as he nodded for you to continue.
“Well earlier this week I uh was supposed to start my period but I didn’t,”
“Y/n-” he tried to cut you off but you put your hand up for him to let you finish.
“I went to the doctors and got a test done. Before Anderson came over I got the call and I’m not. Which is good right? It saved everyone a world of hurt and drama. I don’t know I just thought you should know.”
“Did you wanna be?”
“What?”
“Pregnant,” he said gripping your hips and pulling you closer.
You felt your cheeks get hot at what he was insinuating, “Well- I- yeah. I mean yeah, yes.”
With that he brought his lips back down to yours. This time you wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him closer. One of his hands slid to the back of your skirt and pulled down the zipper. You let it slide down your legs and stepped out of it.
You sat on the table in the room, pushing off the bottles of cleaner. Spencer stepped into the space between your legs, his fingers reaching for your panties and tugging them down your legs.
“I can’t believe I get this tight little pussy all to myself now,” he said biting marks onto your neck. You mewled tilting your head to the side and pulling on his tie.
“Spencer please. I need you so bad,” you whined out.
He stepped away and hastily started on undoing his pants, “What do you want baby? Is it for me to fuck you? Or is that not enough? Do you need me to fill you up with my cum? Want me to put a baby in you?”
You moaned at his lewd words and quickly nodded your head. Your hand flew down to your pussy, you were practically dripping onto the table and he had barley touched you.
“Please doctor I need you so bad.”
Spencer quickly stepped into the space again and took both of your hands in one of his large ones, “I own this pussy. I always have, you don’t get to touch without my permission,” he gritted out.
With his free hand he tugged on his cock before aligning it with your leaking slit. The both of you sighed as he pushed in inch by inch. Your head feel back with your mouth open in a perfect O shape.
After a second of letting you adjust Spencer started with rough thrusts. You could feel your hair start sticking on your forehead from the heat of the room. Spencer’s lips were inches from yours, sharing the same breath.
“Fuck I’m gonna fill you up so good. Let everyone here know you’re mine.”
All you could do was nod and moan in approval. His grip on you was deadly but it was just adding onto the immense pleasure you were feeling. The way he was repeatedly hitting your gpot had your vision blurry with stars. You could also feel him pulsing inside you knowing he was close to his peak.
“You look so pretty like this sweetheart. So perfect around my cock.”
You wrapped your legs around his waist bringing him impossibly closer, “I want you to cum in me Spence. I need to feel it,” you mewled into his lips.
This motivated him to start drilling into you. At this point you were panting, aching to feel the sweet release. His hand dipped down to rub on your clit, he groaned at the slippery mess where you both met.
“Oh god Spence!”
A high pitched moan escaped your lips as he added on the extra pleasure. Soon enough you were squeeing around him, ready to milk him for all he was worth.
“That’s it baby. Keep doing that. I’m gonna stuff you with my cum y/n/n fuck,” he said drawing out the last syllable as he exploded inside you.
He stayed inside as you both caught your breathes, slowly thrusting trying to fill you to the brim.
He pulled out and looked for a roll of paper towels for you to clean up. Once that was done you helped each other tame your hair and outfits as you always did, with quiet and loving gazes.
“Do you think that one did the job?” you said with a smirk.
“Well statistically the pill contraceptive has a 7% failure rate so with my calculations there is a chance,” he said while smoothing down your hair.
“Thanks genius,” you said lightly punching his arm, “Lets get out of here. Together.”
“Together,” he said slinging an arm around your shoulders.
a/n; so guys what do we think. im not gonna lie i kinda hate it but i think it was a good ending for everyone. kinda feel bad anderson didn’t get the whole truth but the cheating is OVER! also what did we think of what pregnancy scare?? let me know lovies!!!

it's a matter of seeing
a derek morgan x penelope garcia fic
a/n: hello again beloveds !!! today i present to you Another derek and penelope are kissing for the first time fic. what can i say, it's simply the best. thank you as always to the spectacular @blkantigone for being my supportive and helpful first reader and editor, love youuu! thank all of you for reading (im getting faster between uploads, have you noticed?)
title is from emily l. by marguerite duras. full line is "I don't know if love's a feeling. Sometimes I think it's a matter of seeing. Seeing you."
rating/warnings: gen audiences :) two vague allusions to sex but nothing even close to explicit, its more just in the way it exists in the background and derek is injured but it's superbly minor
read it here on ao3!
Derek steps closer to Penelope. “You had to see me. With your own eyes.”
Penelope rolls her eyes. “Yes, silly goose, that’s the usual way of seeing.”
-
Derek gets hurt on a case, and Penelope worries. He's fine, but she still worries.
word count: 2028
Derek glances at the time on his phone. Almost midnight, though it could be closer to 4 a.m. for how tired the team is tonight. A long case in Colorado kept them away from home for almost two weeks, and all Derek wants is to pet his dog and sleep in his own bed.
“Could this elevator ride be any slower?” Emily groans from where she’s leaning on the wall behind him.
“You know, Prentiss, I could have just gotten a late night taxi or grabbed one of the last trains.” Spencer is rocking back and forth on his heels next to her, a yawn growing on his lips.
“Nuh uh, kid, I’m getting you home whether you like it or not. I just wish you didn’t need that notebook from your desk tonight.”
“Sorry,” Spencer says, cringing slightly. Derek looks back to see Emily nudge his shoulder with a fond grin. Spencer’s shoulders relax.
“Why are you coming up, Hotch?” Derek asks the man in the opposite corner from Emily.
“Files.” Hotch stays facing the elevator door, only glancing at Derek.
“No way are you planning on staying here and working tonight– Hotch. We’ve been gone for two weeks–” (“Almost two weeks,” says Spencer. Derek waves him off.) “– you should be going home.”
“I’m just grabbing a few things. I’ll get back on this elevator with you.” Hotch glances at the time on his own phone then, unlocking it to open a text message from Jess. Derek sees a picture of smiling Jack for a split second before he looks away. “Jess is already expecting me.”
Derek hums in acknowledgement. He rolls his shoulder as the doors open and they walk towards the bullpen together.
“Shoulder still hurting, Morgan?” Emily asks. The day before they came home, one of the unsubs got the jump on Derek, tackling him to the ground. Emily easily subdued him, but Derek landed funny on a wayward pipe. His shoulder has been bothering him ever since. He nods in response.
“I’ll be fine.” Emily scoffs at him, but says nothing. He will. Eventually.
Spencer holds open the door for Derek. “Here, Morgan. So you don’t aggravate your injury.”
“Hilarious. Ha ha. When’s the stand-up tour? Have you been moonlighting at comedy clubs, pretty boy?”
Spencer sticks his tongue out at him. He quickly pulls it back in his mouth when he catches Hotch looking at him. To their surprise, Hotch cracks a small smile. “Reid has a point, Morgan.” Emily lets out a laugh that is more a cackle than anything.
“Evil. You’re all evil.” He walks through the held open door anyway.
Most of the desk lamps are off, the bullpen empty this late. But his chair is spinning slightly and his light is on. A mop of blonde hair, today a mess of curls with a large sparkly flower pinned at the top, bounces as the chair spins.
“Baby girl, what are you doing here?” Penelope spins to face him, a brilliant smile flashing onto her face immediately. “It’s late. You could have gone home hours ago.”
“Where’s JJ and Rossi?”
“Already in their cars on the way home. We all needed something from up here first.” She’s standing now, and he steps in front of her. “Don’t avoid my question, Mama,” he says, lightly tapping the tip of her nose.
Her smile falters, worry breaking through. “You got hurt.” Her eyebrows crease as she looks him over.
Derek raises both eyebrows. “Yea, but I’m okay. A little injury.”
The crease does not go away. “You got hurt. I don’t like when you get hurt.” He uses his non injured arm to pull her in for a hug. She wraps him in her arms immediately, her face pressing against his chest. The usual private shiver dances down his spine at the feeling. He rubs a small circle on the middle on her back as the tension bleeds out of her.
“See, baby girl? I’m fine.” Penelope picks up her head and looks at him. “Heart’s still beating. Blood’s still pumping. It’s just a little booboo.” She laughs at his word choice. “I’m okay. Promise.”
“You’re gonna rest at home? Ice it, or heating pad it up, or whatever you need?” He nods. “And you’ll call me if you need my help?”
“I promise.” She pops on her tiptoes to kiss his cheek. “You’re cute when you’re worried.”
Penelope tilts her head back and laughs. “I’m always cute, Derek Morgan. Don’t you forget it.” She never looks more beautiful than when she laughs.
“I won’t,” he says, moving his arm to her waist and walking them both to his desk. Spencer is closing his bag at his desk while Emily leans back in his chair, eyes closed.
“Okay, I’m ready,” says Spencer, nudging the chair with his foot. Emily blinks her eyes open, sitting up. “And I can drive, Emily, you’re more tired than I am.” She opens her mouth to argue, but a yawn comes out instead. She hands Spencer the keys without a word.
“Why are you here, Garcia?” Emily asks.
“Had to see my sweet love in person as soon as you got home.” Derek’s heart flips in his chest. “I worry,” she says simply. Emily nods, giving Derek a long look.
Hotch appears at the top of the stairs next to his office. “I’m leaving.” The unsaid addition of that means you are too rings out from the eyebrow heavy look he gives them all.
Derek grabs the file he needs and a novel his sister sent him from his desk drawer quickly. “Come on baby girl, I’ll walk you out.”
“My very own Prince Charming,” she says as she loops her arm through his.
Spencer starts telling Emily about a Russian film festival coming up in a few weeks as they lead the way to the door. Hotch is close behind, silent but listening. Penelope pulls on Derek a little and they follow.
She puts her head on his shoulder. On reflex, he kisses the top of her head. Not for the first time, he thinks about how easy it is for her to slot into place in his life. She just fits, no matter where he is or what he’s doing. There she is, a voice on the phone or the person spinning in his desk chair in the middle of the night solely because she needs to see him in person.
He falters as they walk through the glass doors. Penelope only makes it a few steps before she’s looking back at where he’s frozen, mind whirring. Emily is pressing the button to the elevator ahead of them. “Der?” Penelope asks.
“Why are you here?”
She tilts her head. “I told you. I worry.”
“You could have called Penelope. You did call, we talked on the plane.”
Now she blushes. She never blushes. “I had– I had to see for myself. I didn’t want to wait until Monday.”
A realization washes over Derek. “You had to see,” he repeats, a smile growing on his face.
She sways a little on her feet. “Yes, I said that.” The trio at the elevator notices them lingering by the doors, but Hotch stops Spencer from calling out with a knuckle brush to the forearm.
Derek steps closer to Penelope. “You had to see me. With your own eyes.”
Penelope rolls her eyes. “Yes, silly goose, that’s the usual way of seeing.” Derek takes another step, now only an arm’s length away.
“It’s midnight on a Saturday. And you waited for me here, alone.”
She nods.
“Even though we talked today and you know that I’m okay, that I’ve had worse injuries.”
She nods again.
“Penelope,” he says, voice barely a whisper. He steps impossibly closer. “Why are you here?”
A look of fear settles on Penelope’s face. “Derek–”
“No, it’s alright!” He grabs her hand. “I just need you to say it.”
She softens, something like hope lighting up her eyes. “If you need me to say it, then you already know.”
He releases a loud laugh– the kind of joyous sound that comes unbidden from the bottom of the stomach. Leaning forward, he rests their foreheads together, watching her reaction. When she smiles, he knows for sure. “Yea I do,” he says.
She leans in across the tiny distance between them and presses their lips together. Derek forgets about the lingering ache in his shoulder in favor of this new feeling. He swings an arm around her waist and straightens up, pulling her flush against him. She wraps her arms around his neck, a soft sound humming against his lips. He’s about to slip his tongue into her mouth and carry her off to an empty office when someone clears their throat from across the room.
Penelope pulls back first, automatically hiding her face in Derek’s neck. Emily is hiding a smile behind her hand. Hotch’s eyebrows are raised slightly, the ghost of a smile around his eyes. Spencer makes no attempt to hide his glee, fingers tapping together happily. Derek grins at them. “Can I help you three?”
“Just thought you’d want to carry on somewhere else. And the elevator is here.” Sure enough, Emily has a foot in the elevator door. She shows him her full grin this time. “Not that we weren’t having fun watching the show.”
He scoffs. “Next time, we’re charging a ticket price.” Penelope giggles.
“Next time?” she whispers.
He nods. “If you want.”
“Yes! Yes. I want. Very much so.” He smiles, a full eye crinkle 1000 watt smile, and interlocks their fingers to lead her to the elevator. She slots in right at his side, putting her head back on his shoulder.
They stay that way the whole way down and keep their hands together as they walk to the parking lot. Emily makes kissy faces as she and Spencer get into her car. Spencer waves happily. Hotch gives them a soft smile before he disappears around a corner.
Derek pulls her in for another kiss right next to Esther. Just because he can. “Follow me home?” he mutters against her lips. “We don’t have to… tonight. Next time. But I’ll make breakfast.”
She traces a spiral on his upper arm. “Okay. It’s a date.” He kisses the tip of her nose just to hear her giggle.
She gives him one more kiss before gently shoving him in the direction of his car. “The faster you get to your car, the faster we get home.” He blows her a kiss before jogging to where he parked two weeks ago. She catches it and puts it right over her heart.
The streets are almost empty as they drive, and Derek keeps pulling up next to her at stoplights to ask if she comes here often or if she wants to race. By the time they arrive at Derek’s apartment building, it’s almost one a.m. and they are both dead on their feet. Still, they stop to kiss in front of his elevator. They kiss again just inside of his front door and again when he hands her an old shirt to wear to bed. He has the urge to pinch his arm, just to double check that he’s not still asleep on the plane. But no, there she is, brushing her teeth in his bathroom with a spare toothbrush. He's never felt this kind of peace with someone else in his space. She has toothpaste on the corner of her mouth and her eyes are bloodshot from exhaustion. I love you, he thinks.
“What?” she asks. “You’re staring.”
Derek hums, wrapping an arm around her waist. "Do you blame me?" He grabs a tissue and blots away the toothpaste. It's a slight deflection, but it's not the moment for what he's really thinking. She scrunches her nose and smiles.
"No. You have good taste."
"Damn right I do, baby girl. The best taste."
They don’t kiss much when they lay in Derek’s bed, too tired to do much more than cuddle up together and turn off the lights. But Derek doesn’t mind. He’s already thinking about breakfast.

i repost bc i needed a read more n needed to get this out im sorry
this vet school shit is so much — too much. i feel like i’m just constantly head down, paddling, suffering. i’m so tired of studying and just want a break, but it’s been weeks since i’ve had a good meal and i have 18 exams left this year. i’m so, so tired. i don’t even get a break. i have another exam on monday for a class i haven’t even attended for 2 weeks because i’ve been studying so hard for other exams
i was up until 2 am studying for the exam i have today and i STILL feel like i’m gonna fail it. the material is n o t well presented and not laid out for an adhd brain. it’s so frustrating to have to reorganize this ridiculous information and THEN learn it. i’m so fucked. i’m SO fucked!! nothing i do is good enough, and i’m losing sleep, weight, and hair stressing if i’ll even be in the program next week
“college sucks i’m so glad i’m done” no u don’t get it. this isn’t undergrad. hell, this isn’t even grad school. there’s at least 40 times the information and 1/8 of the time to learn it. i don’t mean it in a “my life is worse than yours” way, it’s just that no one besides other professional school students know this horrible, horrible feeling. knowing that no one around me really, truly gets this torture just makes me feel more isolated and utterly alone. every time someone tells me they get it, i just want to scream because no, you don’t
but i’m supposed to smile and be happy, because it’s such a great opportunity this school has gifted me. and for me to be hundreds of thousands in debt in a field with one of the worst debt to income ratios out there. for me, a chronic and severely depressed individual, to go into a field with one of the highest unalive rates and constant bullying from clients. ugh ugh ugh
just 1 more year until white coat!! one more year until i can start practicing actual medicine !!!!!! i can do it i can do it i can’t do it

Nervous Breakdown // Jay Halstead x Reader
Description: Jay is there when you start to break down.
Words: 1539
Warnings: None
Pairing: Jay x Reader
A/N: So, this I wrote for me. The schedule Reader talks about is my actual schedule. The sign offs are the things I actually need. This was me last night, except I didn’t have someone like Jay to talk me down from my nervous break down, I just had it and then had to be at my clinical this morning (which I’m still at btw lol). But yeah. Hope you enjoy. And if my posting is sporadic in the next month or so, this is why.
“Come to bed,” Jay told you softly, leaning on the doorframe of your bedroom with his arms crossed over his chest as he looked at you with papers spread across the floor, couch, and coffee table.
Your movements were frantic as you tried to organize them all, trying to figure out the best system to keep everything together. Every section was chronologically ordered for the online documentation, paper clips holding each stack together. Then, there were the colored sheets that had even more important signatures on them. You had to make sure everything was in order as class was drawing to an end.
“I’ll sleep when I’m done, Jay,” you snapped at him before closing your eyes and taking a deep breath. “I’m sorry, I just-”
“I know.” He walked over, stepping around the stacks before sitting directly behind you in the only place clear of paper. “Come here.”
You couldn’t stop yourself from leaning back into his chest, his arms wrapping around you. Grounding you as your mind went a mile a minute. You also couldn’t stop yourself from grabbing your calendar, flipping it open to this month.
“What’s the schedule look like?” His chin rested on your shoulder as he looked at the planner.
“I have to help with the EMT class Saturday from seven to three. Then I start my shift at work at eight tomorrow night. Then, work Sunday night. So I’m going to try and catch up on some sleep on Sunday. I have my exam in Med Emergencies on Monday. Then, I have an ambulance clinical AM shift at seven. Same on Wednesday. A quiz in Med Emergencies on Thursday. Then, I work Thursday night. Off at eight on Friday morning, but I picked up a shift from two to ten Friday day. Then, ambulance clinical on Saturday AM shift.
Same with that next Sunday. A quiz in Med Emergencies on the seventeenth. Then work that night. Work the night of the eighteenth, but I’m off at four in the morning instead of my usual eight. Mainly because I have an OR clinical on the nineteenth from seven to three. But then I work that night, off at five on the twentieth because I have an exam in Med Emergencies that day. Ambulance clinical AM shift on the twenty-first. Twenty-second, I have an ER shift from seven to three, then I work that night. Work Sunday night, so I’m going to try to catch up on sleep that day.
Twenty-fourth I have another exam in Med Emergencies. Ambulance AM shift on the twenty-fifth and sixth. Then, we review for our Final in Med Emergencies, but I work that night. I’ll get off at six to get to my ambulance clinical on the twenty-eight at seven. I work that night, but off at five to get to my Maternal-Fetal Truck shift by eight.
On the thirtieth, I have an ER shift from three to eleven. The thirty-first, I have my final in Med Emergencies, and then work that night. Off the day of the first, but I work that night. Then, an ER shift at three on the second. Then, I work that night, but I’m going to try to switch shifts just because my ER shift won’t finish until eleven. The third, we have our student evals. The fourth, I’m helping the junior class with their Ops day, and then I have an ambulance clinical that night. Off the fifth, but work that night. Off the sixth, but work that night. Seventh is labor day, so completely free. ER shift on the eighth at three. Then, on the ninth, OR shift at seven.
“After that, I don’t know because we haven’t signed up for our capstone. Which all of this,” you said, motioning to the mess of papers, “is me getting everything in order to make sure I have everything done and what I still need. Because we can’t start capstone until all of our skills check offs are done, and we’ve hit all of our demographics.”
“What do you have left to do for your skills?” That question got you to sigh, putting the planner down and grabbing a notebook. You had to push your glasses back up on your face as you looked down at your messy handwriting.
“Five peer reviews for pediatric intubations. Two peer reviews for needle cricothyrotomy. Three peer and two instructor reviews for trauma assessment. Five peer reviews for trauma intubations. Two instructor reviews for joint splinting -- which I’m already an EMT, why the Hell do I have to sign off on the BLS stuff again? Same with long-bone. I need one peer review and two instructor for traction splint. Again, BLS bullshit. Seven peer reviews for medical and cardiac scenarios. Eleven peer reviews for IV starts, and one instructor. One instructor for IV piggyback. Five peer reviews for IO. Oh, and another instructor. Three peer for IM injection. Three peer for synchronized cardioversion. One peer for defibrillation. Three peer transcutaneous pacing. Four peer reviews and one instructor for adult team lead scenarios. Five peer reviews and one instructor for pediatric team lead scenarios. Eleven peer reviews for being a team member. Three peer reviews for being a team leader for geriatric scenarios. Six peer and one instructor reviews for adult physical assessments. And finally. Six peer and one instructor review for pediatric assessment,” you read off, letting the paper fall to the ground.
He held you a little tighter. You felt bad. With all the stress you’d been under for the past month, and with how crazy his job was, the two of you hadn’t gotten to spend a lot of time together. And the next month was going to be even crazier.
“When are you supposed to start your capstone?” He pressed a kiss to your neck, your eyes fluttering closed in response.
“They want us to start September Ninth, but I’m going to be the last one who gets to sign up because I’m so far behind! Everyone is going to pick the cool preceptors, and I’m going to get stuck with the ones nobody else wants,” you vented before huffing in frustration.
It was indeed very frustrating, stressful, and downright annoying that you were so far behind compared to everyone else. That’s what happens when you have to be off for six weeks because you tore your knee. Now, it was a constant game of catch-up.
“Just breathe when I breathe,” Jay instructed in that calming voice, following his breathing pattern. It got your heart rate down as tears came to your eyes, despite your internal protests. You were on the verge of a nervous breakdown, and it wasn’t going to be pretty.
“Maybe you should email your instructor?” he suggested when you had your breathing under control on your own.
“And have her take me off all my clinicals and reschedule everything? No. No fucking way. I can’t just email her and schedule my nervous breakdown, Jay. She was very clear in first semester that if we took on too much and couldn’t handle it, she’d take us off our clinicals and completely reschedule everything. I can’t do that, Jay. I can’t because then I’ll be even further behind.” You were talking a mile a minute, Jay taking a deep breath behind you. You took the hint and matched your breathing again.
“Okay, then don’t email her. But, I want you to come to bed right now. It’s two in the morning. You have an ambulance clinical in five hours. You need your sleep. All of this will be waiting for you when you come home tonight,” he insisted. You didn’t want to, but you knew he was right.
The two of you stood up, walking into the bedroom. You couldn’t help it as you collapsed on the bed with a groan, much more comfortable than the hard floor in the living room. He wasted no time in joining you, pulling you close again. This time, you were able to see his face at least, tracing his features gently with soft fingertips. You missed him.
“How about we do something Labor Day? Just you and me to destress a bit?” you asked, Jay nodding in agreement before lips met gently. “I miss you.”
“I miss you too,” he said with a soft chuckle, kissing you again. “But you’re almost done. This is the worst of it. After your final, you’re pretty much done with lecture. Capstone is your last hoorah. Then, your tests and you’ll finally be a paramedic after over a year. Doing this through a pandemic. Through all your family crap. I’m proud of you.”
“You really know how to sweet talk a lady,” you joked, resting your head on his chest.
It was the exact thing you needed to hear. Jay always knew what to say. You were so close to being done. Then, you’d be in your dream career. All the hard work was going to be worth it. The thousands of hours in clinicals, the hundreds of hours in class. The countless sleepless nights and caffeine filled days. Yes. It would be all worth it. Just a couple more months to go. And Jay was by your side.

“An actual goddess” Piper says wistfully from where she’s leaning against the wall next to Percy, taking back the cigarette she’d just bummed of him. Her eyes are glued on the field, and more precisely on Reyna, smile on her face and water bottle in her hand as she jogs over to Jason standing at the side of the field. They greet each other with a hug, even as Reyna wrinkles her face, seemingly complaining about her own sweatiness.
It’s coincidence that the end of Reyna’s soccer practice collides conveniently with Piper’s and Percy’s late seminar on Mondays. It isn’t coincidence that Percy and her have taken to sharing a cigarette on the side of the building that looks out toward the field during their break, however.
Percy makes a non-committal noise and his eyes follow Piper’s gaze while she takes a drag of the cigarette and wrinkles her nose. She needs to quit smoking for good, she thinks, and flicks the ash to the ground. There was a brief moment in first year when Piper thought that Percy might be interested in Reyna, or she in him, but luckily, nothing ever came of that.
“You think they’re dating?” Percy asks, arms crossed over his chest now, making no move to take the cigarette back again. He’s not even pretending not to be staring, his eyes intense where they flit between Reyna and Jason. Piper on the other hand has the common decency to at least cast her eyes away every now and again before she’s caught looking for a little too long.
At the edge of the field, Reyna and Jason are standing close together now, chatting about god knows what, smiling and laughing. They’re certainly comfortable with each other, but Piper can’t say that’s much of an indication given how she’s around Percy.
“I hope not.” Piper mutters and Percy laughs at that, even though she knows he agrees. Percy wouldn’t admit it in a million years, but Piper would bet real money that he has a thing for Jason, too, as much as he claims to hate the guy. She’d have to be deaf and blind not to notice the tension between them.
It would make sense, though, in a way. Jason is captain of the men’s rugby team, Reyna of the women’s soccer team. Some of their practices collide and the two clubs do most of their weekly socials together, and Piper’s seen the two of them hanging out aside from that plenty as well. Reyna and her haven’t talked much about Jason, maybe because Piper hasn’t actually exchanged more than five words with him and never had much of an urge to change that, but she knows that Reyna and Jason have known each other before university.
Around Jason, Reyna seems to let her guard down, something Piper has only managed to achieve a handful of times since they met during their first year.
Jason laughs at something Reyna says, eyes bright and head thrown back and Piper can’t deny that he’s handsome, at the very least. He’s fairly decent, too, as far as guys go, and really, Piper knows she shouldn’t be hoping that there is nothing between Reyna and him if that is what would make Reyna happy.
“Invite her to the party.” Percy suggests then, drawing Piper’s attention back from the tangent her brain was so insistent to start on. When Piper turns her face to look at him, he’s already looking back at her, one eyebrow arched. “I was going to, anyway, but it’s different coming from you yourself.”
He’s not teasing her, it’s an honest suggestion, and technically not even a bad one. It’s Percy’s birthday this weekend, and if nothing else, it would be a good excuse to hang out again. Percy knows a ton of people, but he usually doesn’t invite too many to his party, so with any luck, it won’t be too crowded to actually spend some time with Reyna.
More than that, though, it’s another opportunity for Piper to finally get a move on. Percy, Piper knows, thinks that Piper’s pining had reached a point where it’s almost comical halfway through last year, but even so, Piper has yet to manage to actually act on her feelings.
A party is casual enough that she can always play it off as nothing serious when it ends up blowing up in her face. Piper might finally get over herself and just ask Reyna out already – although she’s tried that a few times before only to find herself tongue tied and staring at Reyna like she hung the moon in the sky. She’s been head over heels for Reyna since maybe three weeks after they met in first year, and now that they’re starting their third and final year, Piper needs to get a move on or it’ll simply be too late. Granted, she’s scared shitless at the prospect of being turned down, but at this point, even that would be better than pining forever and never finding out if she’d even stand a chance.
“Yeah… maybe.” Piper says finally, and manages a small smile towards Percy who bumps his shoulder against hers playfully. They should be heading back inside, so Piper sneaks a last glance toward Reyna and this time, finds her looking back.
They don’t share any classes this year, and Piper doesn’t usually run into Reyna on campus, so on Wednesday morning, she ends up texting Reyna on her way to class. She fumbles with her phone, almost tripping over her own two feet trying to type the words out as fast as possible, and ends up having to sidestep off the path to actually send the texts.
Hey you.
we’re having a party on Saturday, it’s Percy’s birthday.
Piper wants to add more, but instead, she bites her lip and stuffs her phone back into the pocket of her jeans. It’s almost an open invitation like this already anyway, and Piper wants to gauge Reyna’s first reaction before deciding exactly how she’s going about asking. Technically, it would be so easy to just as Reyna to go with her, specifically, to the party, but the intention might be lost over text and anyway, wouldn’t it be simpler to just invite her generally?
Piper frets throughout the entirety of her first lecture, and most of the second one, for nothing. Reyna doesn’t answer, even though the messenger app shows Piper that she’s read both texts already, and Piper tries not to be disappointed about it. She doesn’t know what Reyna’s schedule is like today, the girl might just be busy and planned on replying later. It makes sense, much more than Piper’s second thought that Reyna is not answering because Piper is annoying and Reyna doesn’t actually want to spend any time with her. She knows that thought is stupid, knowing that however does nothing to ease the anxious knot in Piper’s stomach.
Piper finds herself checking her phone more often than not. It would be funny if it wasn’t so ridiculous, and if the lecturer wasn’t so clearly catching on that Piper isn’t paying as much attention to the class as she is to her phone. She texts Percy as well, but she knows he’s in that seminar he shares with Jason, so chances are that she won’t be getting a reply on that end anytime soon either. In the end, she has to force herself to put her phone away and actually focus on the lecture up front, even though by that point, she is already lost as to what they’re even talking about in the first place. It’s no good, and Piper can’t deny being relieved when the lecturer eventually dismisses the class.
She doesn’t allow herself to check her messages until she’s across campus in the coffee shop, queuing for some much needed caffeine and fishing out her phone so she doesn’t have to make small talk with anyone while she waits in line. Reyna still hasn’t replied, but at least Percy has messaged her after his seminar.
I’m gonna strangle him, Piper. You’ll have to bust me out of prison because they are going to arrest me for goddamn murder.
All she’d asked was if his classes were as boring as hers today, and while she had expected Percy to go off about Jason in reply, this isn’t exactly what she’d thought to be reading today. She smiles at her phone, types out a quick reply and moves up in the queue.
That bad? What’s he done now?
The way Percy talks about Jason makes Piper think of a Cartoon Network villain, always plotting, provoking and scheming. The few times she’s spoken to Jason, the guy wasn’t half bad, and if Piper is honest, she doesn’t quite get the vendetta these two have with each other. She suspects though that it has something to do with how ‘infuriatingly attractive, like fucking superman or something’ Percy described Jason after their first class together.
It’s like he thinks I’m stupid or something. Got a dumb fucking project to do together and he honestly told me that he ‘needs to pass this class so iif I’m not planning to put in the work, we might as well ask for new partners right away’
Like, excuse me, bitch? My grades are better than yours, for one thing
And for another, it’s not like good-old Dodds is gonna let us switch anyway
Piper huffs audibly while she reads the texts. It’s clear Percy’s actually upset by this, and she figures it will only get worse if they actually have to do the work together in the coming weeks. Before she can shoot Percy a reply though, she’s next in line.
Piper orders her coffee, steps aside to wait once she’s paid, and rereads Percy’s texts before she types her reply to Percy.
Sounds like a dick move.
Piper’s almost inclined to defend Jason for a moment, since Percy mostly doesn’t pay much attention in class, especially in Mrs. Dodds seminars – so how is Jason meant to know how much effort Percy puts in outside of it? On the other hand, though, Piper knows how Percy is, and how personally he’s clearly taken Jason’s comment already, so trying to convince him otherwise would simply be fruitless.
Once Piper’s coffee is done, she heads back outside, finding an empty bench to enjoy the break before her next class. If nothing else, at least Percy’s ranting is distracting her from Reyna, and the party, and asking the other girl out – and in between the rapid texts Percy and her are sending back and forth Piper almost forgets about it entirely. Until she has to head back to her last class, that is, and sees that Reyna has, so far, still left her on read.
Piper hesitates for a moment, clicking on the text field without typing anything just yet. Is she going to come off as desperate if she texts again, or should she just clarify now before it gets too late and Reyna already makes different plans for the weekend?
Piper types out a few words, deletes them again and pockets her phone only to get it back out a few seconds later to try again. She shouldn’t be walking and texting, especially given that she should be going faster to actually make it to her lecture in time, but Piper knows that if she doesn’t send this text now, she’ll spend another lecture agonising over what to say.
So yeah, I wanted to invite you too ofc :)
Piper cringes at her wording, but figuring it won’t get much better, she sends the text anyway and finally tucks her phone back into her pocket to actually hurry to class.
By the time Reyna replies, it’s late and Piper is sitting on the beat-up couch in her shared flat’s living room, watching something trashy on TV without really paying much attention at all. Percy is clanking around in the kitchen, making something that smells good enough to remind Piper that she should probably be getting herself some food, too. She’s about to get up and rummage through her fridge compartment in search of something edible when her lock screen lights up with a message from Reyna, and that derails any thoughts of food immediately. Piper isn’t subtle in the way she practically lunges for her phone, but luckily, Percy can’t see and judge her from his position in the kitchen.
Sorry, long day, reads the first text, following a few seconds later by another one.
Promised Jason to hang out but I’d love to :(
Piper bites her lip, knowing before typing out the words that Percy won’t like what she’s doing in the slightest.
You could bring him? Percy won’t mind.
Except that Percy most certainly will mind, Piper thinks, and grimaces. If she hadn’t come off as desperate before, she most certainly does now – texting back within less than a minute after having been left on read all day, only to offer that Reyna can bring her friend (boyfriend?) along as well if that means she’ll be there.
There’ll be other opportunities, Piper tells herself, and scrubs a hand over her face. She needs to chill, and maybe she needs to grab a cigarette and step outside and calm down before she embarrasses herself even further.
Piper stares at the screen. How on earth is she meant to interpret this? At this rate, she won’t make it until Saturday, dying of one crisis or another before then.
if you’re sure? I’ll ask him.
haven’t seen you in a while, would be nice to hang out again ;)
I’m sure.

wordless pt.3
jeon jeongguk / reader genre: hitman (john wick au), sugar daddy au, angst rating: mature words: 3.5k warnings: toxic relationships, non graphic sex a/n: im sleepy but hey im also rly glad bts made a statement about the blm movement :D
Sometimes, saying “I love you” is inappropriate, and given your circumstances, you think it might send Jeongguk over the edge if he hears them again.
Parts: One, Two, Three, Four, Five
(21) Sharing your umbrella with them in the rain.
“Yeah, I did, I submitted it on Thursday. What do you mean, did it get a good mark, it’s only Monday.” As you near the front windows of the building, you sigh and stare at the gloomy clouds presented behind the glass. Korea is cold and wet and dark today. “Fuck, rain. Anyway, I’ll call you later, Eunji, okay?”
Eunji agrees and hangs up the phone before you get the chance to, and you’re left in the cool shadow of the largest cloud in the sky. From nine until eleven, you have a morning class on Monday; today, due to request from at least five students confused by the essay title that was due on Friday evening, the class ran for an additional hour and a half, all of the subject material covered with a general extension for the following Fri. Typical, as you rushed it to hand it in before submission.
“Not going home, Y/N?”
You suck your top teeth with disappointment, “Not yet, Professor, I need to make a call.”
The slim professor arrives at your elbow, “Boyfriend?”
“Not really,” you confess. You glance at your phone and find Jeongguk’s number, “but he owes me a few favours here and there, it won’t hurt to bring an umbrella or something.”
“Good luck,” she laughs. She doesn’t offer her umbrella, despite it being tucked under her armpit, and her car is parked in sight close to the windows. At that, she leaves and you send Jeongguk a quick text message. If he’s working presently, the text will annoy him less than a call.
Raining! I’m stuck, can you send some to come and get me?
Jeongguk must be in office, because his reply is speedy. Forget your subway card again?
I never ask for anything, would it hurt you to send someone to get me?
He doesn’t reply for five minutes, and then, Uni, right?
It takes at least fifteen minutes before a vehicle pulls up across the small car-park; it’s a black car, shiny and wet and loud, and you bristle at its entry. Quickly, you hug your coat closer around your body and when you glance back up towards the window, you’re surprised to see Jeongguk himself briskly crossing the lot with an umbrella over his head.
“I’m here to pick up a Y/N L/N, you seen her?” he asks when he reaches the door, smiling as you haul it open and stare at him with happy surprise. “You did not dress for the weather.”
“The app said it would be cloudy,” you huff.
“Baby, it’s January, what did you expect,” Jeongguk sighs, wrapping an arm around your shoulders and bringing you closer to his body. Like this, he walks alongside you towards the car and for a moment, he glances around the complex out the corner of his eye. This University isn’t the dog's bollocks, because as much as he’s willing to help fund you at University, he can’t pay for you to be smarter. You’re pretty happy where you are, not being at a big-name University but doing the exact same degree anyways. He’s happy that you’re happy, but if it were him, he’d probably redecorate the front.
(22) Listening to them while they vent.
When Jeongguk vents, he doesn’t just vent. He never sits you down in front of him and lets it all out, nor does he slink away to therapy, or whining over the phone, or sleepy pillow talk where everything feels safer when you’re seconds away from falling asleep.
Instead, Jeongguk fucks away his problems, and as he does it, you tend to get an earful.
“And,” he grunts, one slap, one thrust, “I fucked it up.” One more. “All of it.” Another groan, a deeper push, “Fuck!”
You like to let him get it all out, and on the plus side, you get what you need which is to relieve the pressure of wanting in your stomach. It’s better when he’s angry, better for both of you, and he’s full of apologies when he’s finished, as if he was yelling at you and not at himself.
“Last time I ever work with Taehyung,” he spits. “Fuck. Ugh.”
You’ll ask him about it later.
(23) Taking a picture together to print and hang later.
One night, you’re over at Jeongguk’s. It’s not unusual that you’re here, especially when you’re here so often that his house feels like your own. From the bathroom, the shower runs loudly and Jeongguk sings, mostly to himself, in the water, meanwhile you dance around his kitchen making tea and bringing it to the bedroom where he’ll come in later when he’s done.
His room is golden and warm, and the curtains are drawn but the thin netting softens the sunset outside. You circle around the end of Jeongguk’s bed and set his cup on the bedside table on his side, closest to the window, when you notice something new sitting in a frame by the lamp. Okay, you’ll bite.
You put down both mugs and in exchange pick up the frame. Something warm bubbles inside your stomach as you look down at the frame; the picture, you’ve never seen before, but it’s of you. You remember the photo being taken in Colmar, the time that Jeongguk came to see you to satisfy his own boredom and need. Never did you imagine it would be a photo he’d print, let alone put in a frame next to his bed. It’s a pretty photo, too, with the river behind you and the sun on your skin, your hair only slightly in your face.
Not a perfect photo, but a pretty one. Jeongguk must like it enough to have printed it.
The shower cuts off in the bathroom and you move quickly, protecting an image of innocence as you put the frame back where it once was, and pick up your mug and place it on your bedside table. You’ve placed Jeongguk’s mug so that he could take it both ways. Maybe he’ll think you didn’t see the frame, or maybe he’ll know you did. He must have put it there for a reason, you think, and then you stop thinking when Jeongguk opens the bathroom door and enters the bedroom.
(24) Tracing your names together in the sand.
Jeongguk had a call from Hawaii. It was brief, and you imagine not very pleasant, but he had to go nonetheless. Jeongguk sure as hell wasn’t going to go to Hawaii without you, no matter how dangerous that might be for him. He told you with two hours notice to pack up your shit and meet him at his place. The plane took off three hours later, and Hawaii here you come.
He never liked to be late, or behind schedule, and so the job that needed to be done was done in a record breaking speed. Like always, he’d have some time to kill before needing to flee to avoid the authorities, and when Jeongguk heads back home after the deed is done, he steps into an empty room and his skin runs cold.
“Y/N?” he calls, to no response. He sets down his things and moves around the suite, his eyes darting to every area.
There is a moment where Jeongguk fears for the worst and out of instinct grabs the gun tucked into his belt. He pulls it out in the bedroom but pauses when out of the corner of his eye, he sees a person standing on the beach just outside the window. Jeongguk pauses.
Outside, the sun is warm and burning orange, sinking down into the pretty waves. You could get used to Hawaii, maybe, if you failed at journalism at the end of your degree, or if Jeongguk hurt your feelings enough that you felt living in Korea itself would be too painful to endure.
“Y/N!”
You turn over your shoulder, noticing Jeongguk stepping down from the dunes. He’s still in his suit, a black fit that makes him look slender and tall and absolutely stunning. His hair is still wild and wet and there’s blood on the inside of his blazer, a red that contrasts the white of his shirt. You won’t mention it, because he probably knows already.
“Hey,” you call back.
“It’s- it’s not safe for you to be out here on your own,” he explains, finally by your side. “Fuck, I was worried you’d been kidnapped, or something.”
“Oh, sorry,” you reply. “The sunset was just too pretty.”
Jeongguk sighs with his hands on his hips. “Yeah, it is. Hawaii does sunsets better than Korea, that’s for sure.”
Jeongguk stands next to you and says nothing for a few seconds. The sunset is indeed gorgeous, like something ripped out of a painting from a gallery somewhere fancy and famous. You hum quietly, and jump slightly to the left to grab a large stick off the sand. Jeongguk has to stop himself from smiling as you pick it up, like a kid who pretends the stick is a sword.
“I used to write rude things in the sand for the people in planes who flew past, every single time we went on vacation when I was a kid,” you announce.
Jeongguk laughs, “You were some kid, huh?”
“Maybe you killed the wrong one,” you think, and Jeongguk frowns.
“Can you not bring that up all the time?” You look at him and he frowns deeper, “I know you’re happy about it and stuff, but like...not my proudest moment. Makes me feel sucky.”
“Oh,” you answer. “Sorry, I didn’t mean it like that. Just a joke.”
He shrugs, “I know. But still.”
You stab the sand with the stick. “I thought maybe it was like, fitting?”
Jeongguk lifts his head to the sky and closes his eyes. “Can’t we have a trip where we just pretend to be in love or something so I don’t feel so shit about the reason why we came here?”
That shuts you up for a moment, and you turn fully to face him as he continues to stare at the sky.
“Like Colmar, maybe,” you press, and he looks down.
“Yeah.”
It sits there for a bit, like you’re genuinely contemplating it, but then you straighten with a little huff and turn to him.
“Seems fair,” you agree.
Jeongguk almost exhales a sigh of relief and he smiles, genuinely, and follows you across the beach. The tide is a little out, the sand damp where the sea once was and like children, you embrace the fun that’s waiting to be had on the shores. Chasing the waves, running from them, staring at cute crabs that scurry across the sand and laughing at the cute kids that drop their ice creams in the water.
Jeongguk takes the stick gently from your hand and points it towards the white sand, pressing the tip against the grains. You smile against his arm as you bend to see what he draws; the stick drags across the sand and outlines a J, and the first initial of your name. Oh, you think, as he closes them inside a heart and stands back to admire his work.
It’s cute, childishly cute, and he looks proud. Jeongguk beams at you for approval and you smile back, happy.
“Photo,” you say and Jeongguk drops to a crouch near the design and poses with the stick. This photo is cute, probably cuter than the one from Colmar. Jeongguk even lets you keep it.
(25) Wearing clothes in their favourite colour.
Jeongguk’s favourite colour was white, and he loved the way a white shirt or a white coat or any white accessory would look on you. Sadistically he’d love you in the white clothes he ruins, seeing you wrap your body in a white shirt dressed with blood. White was his muse, a colour of purity and innocence. Although he always wore black for work, he had to have an admiration for the colour of white, standard paper or milk white.
Jeongguk knows that your favourite colour is green. He can tell by the amount of green plants around your apartment, and the green blankets and pillows and mugs and the unusual amount of green clothing items you have in your wardrobe. He even remembers the tie you bought him once, a Slytherin green that he actually really likes despite his Hogwarts house being Ravenclaw.
You’ve never actually seen him wear the tie, not until today when Jeongguk makes a quick stop by your apartment as he heads back to the office. He steps inside with a brown bag filled with bagels and he kisses your forehead by the front door and hands them to you. You see the tie and smile; Jeongguk sure as hell looks great in your favourite colour.
(26) Doing a chore for them that you know they aren’t fond of.
You’re lucky that you never really came across Elio, never once when you were at Jeongguk’s home. You had assumed that Elio was sleeping, or elsewhere on days you visited or nights you slept over. To your surprise and perhaps horror, you discovered that Elio had been there all along, just disinterested in coming out to see you from the few rooms that Jeongguk converted into his own personal habitat.
“You just had him here all this time?” you screech quietly, running back into the bedroom after seeing Elio on the couch. “What the fuck.”
“He’s harmless,” Jeongguk shrugs. “He’s not interested in a human diet right now.”
“Right now? That’s not comforting,” you reply. “I’m happy to go through all your shitty paperwork for you, it’s something I actually enjoy, but can you please go out and get them for me?”
Jeongguk cocks his head to the side, “why, can’t find them?”
“They’re in the living room, on the table,” you explain, peering back out, “but Elio’s on the couch.”
He laughs, rising, “He’s not gonna even touch you.”
“He might.”
“He won’t.”
“You don’t know that!”
“No, but he doesn’t hurt me, so he won’t hurt you.”
You gape. “What? He’s your pet, of course he won’t hurt you. He trusts you. He doesn’t even know me.”
Jeongguk sighs loudly and ruffles your hair as he crosses your path. “Whatever. You’re such a fuckin pussy,” then he kisses your neck and heads out into the living room. You quiver by the doorway as he moves without a flinch towards Elio.
The giant cat picks his head up off the couch and yawns in Jeongguk’s direction, his tail swooshing prettily over the side of the couch. His black fur blends into the blanket he lies on and as he blinks slowly, Jeongguk reaches to pet his head and behind his ears. Elio basks in the love, pressing his head further into Jeongguk’s palm, oddly dog-like. Jeongguk spends a few more moments with his beloved exotic and then finally, like he’s reluctant to, picks up the large and messy stack of papers and then walks back towards the bedroom with a smug expression. Elio’s head falls back to sleep.
“Touch me, check I’m still alive after my dangerous encounter,” Jeongguk says, bringing the papers into the room and dropping them on the bed.
“Shut up,” you huff.
(27) Leaving a plate of food in the microwave for when they have a late shift.
A call from Eunji at eight in the evening destroys all the plans you had set in place. Jeongguk had been called to meet with one of the founders of the South Korean Continental, and wouldn’t be back until around nine. You had prepped an entire meal, sitting ready on the side for when he got home.
“I’m sorry, I wouldn’t call if it wasn’t absolutely important,” Eunji apologises, sounding flustered on the line, “I just. I didn’t know who else to call. I went back to the library, I think I got rid of him, but he was definitely following me from the restaurant. Fuck, Y/N, it was so scary.”
“Hey, it’s okay, I’m glad you called me,” you assure her, already putting your shoes on, “I can’t believe he showed up again. Didn’t he get put in jail?”
Eunji hums like she’s not convinced, “Out on bail, eighty kay.”
“Fuck. Do you, uh,” you start, thinking of if it’s okay to say, “want me to call someone else?” Jeongguk?
Eunji is one of the only people alive who knows about Jeongguk. She had been your best friend since you were seven, and was one of the only people who remained by your side after Jeongguk had your brother executed, and after you decided to become Jeongguk’s little play thing for a few weeks until he lost control and kept you around. Eunji’s no stranger to his antics, and if you warped the story a little, Jeongguk would have no issues with sorting the problem at hand.
“No, no, don’t,” Eunji begs. “He’ll take it too far. People will point fingers at me. Can you just come and get me?”
“Of course,” you tell her. “We’ll go back to mine, I can see Jeongguk whenever.”
Eunji exhales in relief, “I love you, you know that? You’re the best friend ever.”
You hang up a few minutes later and stare sadly at the meal. But it can’t be helped. Jeongguk’s bailed on you a thousand times for his colleagues. He wouldn’t mind, after a few hours of thinking about it. You sigh with repent and move the food towards the microwave.
Rescuing Eunji. Call me, I can come back tomorrow. Please eat.
Jeongguk finds the note when he gets home and scrunches it into a ball in the bin.
He eats alone, in silence, the other side of the table still prepped for another person.
(28) Sharing a drink with them from the same straw.
“Enjoy the movie!”
“Thanks.”
Jeongguk takes the two tickets from the vender and steers you towards the corridor that leads to the rooms. On this rare occasion, Jeongguk has decided to court you. Quite literally, Jeongguk had called you up and asked if you wanted to go on a date, or something, because he was bored and liked you most, and he knows there’s a movie you’ve been wanting to see.
“Are you sure you wanna watch it with me?” you ask him, even though he’s already got the tickets and is walking next to you.
“Yeah, of course, why wouldn’t I?”
“I just didn’t think you were a cinema kind of person,” you confess.
Jeongguk hums, “To be honest, I’m not. But this movie looks good, and you wanna see it, and how often do we do things that you wanna do?”
It’s true.
The cinema room is dark and empty, since you’re both early to begin with. As always, it’s a little bit sticky and smelly, and Jeongguk pushes you towards the back row because it is inarguably the best place to sit in the cinema. You set down the large drink in between you both, two straws poking out in each of your directions.
“It’s great this movie is showing here,” you say quietly.
“Yeah, well the LGBT plus movement is really popular now, people are a lot more accepting of it,” Jeongguk states. “I mean, look at how well The Handmaiden did.”
You nod, “great movie.”
“It is,” he agrees. A few minutes later and the lights dim significantly, the movie is probably about to start. Jeongguk leans to the left a little and sips from the drink.
(29) Tucking their hair behind their ear to help them get it out of their face.
Uni’s tough, nobody said it wasn’t. Jeongguk doesn’t really understand this, since he never went to University. He brings a mug of tea from the kitchen to his bedroom where you’re sitting cross-legged staring at a laptop, setting it to the side and sitting just behind you but to your side, watching you closely.
“You’re doing it again.”
“Doing what,” you mutter dimly.
“Overworking yourself,” Jeongguk replies, “I can see your brain fucking pulsing against your skull.”
You sigh loudly. “I can’t do this. Why did I enroll in University? I should have just put it all away after high school and become a trophy wife.”
Jeongguk’s brows furrow. “You can still be a trophy wife, you’ll just be a smart one.”
You look at him. “I’m not smart enough for this.”
For a while, Jeongguk doesn’t say anything, and he just sits listening to you. As you vent, and open up about how hard it is to do this damn degree, Jeongguk watches your face and your body and uses his fingers to gently tuck the hair that falls in front of your face behind your ear. The passion that pours out of you when you’re frustrated is an unspoken beauty that you’re not even aware of, and Jeongguk eats it up.
He does what he can to put you at ease, because things he says in encouragement are things you already know anyway. Like all humans, all you need is a little bit of love, and Jeongguk’s happy to give it if it means you’re happy with him.
(30) Helping scratch that itch on their back they can’t reach.
“Can’t reach. Baby, scratch my back for me?”
You cringe away from the TV, “what the fuck am I? Your maid?”
“Please?”
You sigh. “Where’s it itching?”
“Thanks, you’re the best.”
“You don’t pay me enough for this.”
“I don’t pay you at all.”
Sigh. “Exactly.”

You knew something had to be up. The girl’s night had been your idea, but Connie had seized on it without hesitation. Steve and Javier would watch the girls at your house — and play PlayStation — while you and Monica would come get wine drunk at the Murphy’s.
Connie seemed to be in great spirits for most of the evening. Conversation mostly focused on how the girl’s were doing in school, where you saw your career going, and Connie complaining about working double shifts at the hospital.
And that was when the conversation veered in a different direction.
Connie topped off her wine glass, only to chug it down like a champ.
“Uh-oh.” You took a sip of your own wine, before sitting your glass aside. “Connie, what’s wrong?”
Just a week ago, Javier had assured you that things would be fine with them. Whatever their problem was, it wasn’t as serious as Connie feared that it was.
Monica looked warily between the two of you, “Should I be nervous?”
“Probably.” You shot back, before keeping your focus on Connie as she leaned forward, propping her elbows on the table.
“Steve had a cancer scare.”
“Oh my God.” Monica covered her mouth.
You just stared, “Just a scare?”
She nodded, “It happened months ago. In May!” Connie pressed the heels of her palms against her eyes. “I’m so fucking mad at him I could spit. But I’m relieved. I just can’t believe he wouldn’t tell me.”
“Wait… rewind. When did you find out?”
“Monday.”
“Shit.” You frowned. “I’m gonna kick his ass into 2020.”
Connie laughed bitterly. “He didn’t want to scare me. That was his excuse at first.”
“At first?” Monica frowned. “Why is it such a man thing to hide shit from their partners? I don’t get it.”
“It’s all about their ego,” You explained. “What kind? I mean, Javier and Steve smoked like freight—“
“Testicular.” Connie answered bluntly and Monica choked. “I guess, in May he found a growth on his left testicle and—“
“Please spare me the details.” Monica groaned, sinking back in her chair. “I don’t want to hear about Steve’s testicles.”
You snorted quietly, trying to keep from laughing at Monica’s utterly scandalized expression. “But he didn’t tell you? I mean… that would explain the whole…” You gave Connie a look as you gestured vaguely.
“Mhm. I’m just so pissed off.” Connie admitted. “He lied about a trip he took back in May. I can’t even believe it. He just lied! He went to Tampa to see a doctor outside of my hospital network so I wouldn’t… I don’t know. I don’t get his logic.”
“He’s a man. Don’t expect logic.” Monica pointed out.
“She’s not wrong.” You shrugged. “But, holy shit. Why wouldn’t he just tell you?”
“My mother.”
Oh. Shit.
Connie’s voice grew quieter, her eyes shining with tears. “After all of my struggles with pregnancy, after all the tests, the infertility treatments, after everything — she still blames Steve.” She lowered her gaze, quickly wiping a tear away. “And with her being with us most of the summer, Steve just… I guess, In his defense, he was afraid this would give her ammo.”
“Connie, sweetie…” You rose from your seat and moved around the table to sit beside her. You wrapped your arms around her and pulled her to you, rubbing her back.
“He lied. To my face. For months.” Connie mumbled, her voice muffled as she covered her face. “That’s why he couldn’t get it up. All summer, all my attempts to initiate and he was so stressed about lying that he couldn’t even perform.”
“I’m going to grab…” Monica looked around nervously. “Chips? Salsa? Something other than this conversation?”
Connie laughed, “I’m so sorry!”
“Don’t apologize.” Monica made a face. “I’m just gonna go sit and watch TV until this conversation is over.”
“I’ll call you when it’s over.” You assured her as Connie pulled back, sniffling and wiping tears away. “Did Steve tell you all of this on his own or…?”
“It was horrible.” Connie told you gravely. “I took your advice, I bought this really cute black teddy. I made us dinner, the girls were out of the house.”
“Fuck.” You grimaced, “Connie, I’m so…”
“Don’t.” She shook her head. “It made him finally admit to everything. Full-on nervous breakdown. I guess he hated how things had been because of this secret. It was bad. It was good. He cried, which… I haven’t seen him do in years.”
“Are you… I mean, are you guys okay or…” You almost didn’t want to know. Steve and Connie were such an ever present force in your lives. They had always had their rocky moments, but at the end of the day they always managed to find solid ground.
“I asked him to sleep in the guest room.” Connie admitted to you, pulling herself out of your embrace as she reached for the wine bottle and poured herself another glass.
“Do you mind telling me what happened?” You questioned lightly, reaching across the table to grab your discarded glass of wine, taking a short sip of the drink.
Connie inhaled shakily, “Well… I had Monday night off so I arranged for the neighbours to watch the girls for us. Admittedly, Steve was a little anxious during dinner. In hindsight, I realize that he might’ve been… I think he was planning on telling me already.” She frowned, rubbing her thumb over the crease between her brows as she stared down at her wine glass.
“I had no idea. If I had known the truth was something like this, I would not have encouraged you to try to romance him.” You wondered if Javier had known what was going on. He had to. He’d been so certain that things would be fine, so long as Steve talked to her.
“It’s… probably for the best.” Connie shrugged her shoulders. “I mean, don’t get me wrong… I’m relieved that he doesn’t have cancer, but the way he went about it. I’ve never been so pissed at him.”
“Not to play devil’s advocate, but…” You pursed your lips. “I know how much Steve hates your mother. I mean, I know it’s a mutual emotion, but… Can you really blame him for wanting to keep it quiet? Not for months, that’s… shitty. But you weren’t going to kick your mother out.”
You knew both sides of the story of Connie’s mother — Ethel Gibson. You had met her a handful of times since moving to Miami and the picture Steve and Connie had painted hadn’t been far off the reality. She was a fiery woman, daughter of Irish immigrants, and forged by the coal mines of Appalachia. She was one of twelve children, mother to nine, and devoutly religious. She deeply resented Steve because he whisked Connie off the mountain without marrying her first. In fact, they hadn’t married until they moved to Miami after they’d both completed college.
And in all those years, Ethel would’ve been fine with their sinful lifestyle, if Connie had only given her a grandchild. Just one.
Last year, when Ethel came to visit, Connie had called you tears because her mother had cruelly told her that God had cursed them for living in sin for so many years. That they would never have real children because they had done everything wrong.
Despite how toxic her mother was, Connie hadn’t quite figured out how to sever that connection. Ethel was useful during the summer, when everyone was working. But she was a hateful old hag.
Connie swept another tear off her cheek as she turned to look at her, “I just can’t believe the lengths he went to hide this. A fake business trip, going outside of our insurance, and then months of making me feel like something was wrong.”
“Want me to kick his ass? Cause I will.” You smiled a little at her. “I mean, he did try to take care of your needs — right?”
She nodded her head slowly, “I do get it.” Connie chewed on her bottom lip as she ran her finger around the rim of her wine glass. “I just hate how he went about this. I could’ve been there for him. I mean how would you feel if Javier pulled this shit?”
“There would be a surreptitious rose bush in the backyard.” You answered without hesitation. “Maybe a new concrete patio.”
“Exactly!” Connie shook her head then. “I don’t want to stay mad at him. I really do get why he did it. If my mother caught wind that he had something wrong with his testicles, it would just further fuel her hatred for him. It would be his fault that I’m… barren.”
You reached over and squeezed her hand. “You’re an amazing mother to two little girls who think the world of you, Connie. Olivia and Emily love you both, no differently than my girls love us.”
“I know. I know.” She squeezes your hand back. “I can’t believe I let her convince me that Steve was cheating! And the reality was that he just couldn’t get it up because he had been lying to me.”
“I think you should let him out of the doghouse. Maybe not tonight since you are teetering on the edge of being white girl wasted when he gets home.” You sat the bottle of wine of her reach. “But I think he punished himself all summer.”
“I agree.” Connie gave you a look. “He said Javier was pretty pissed off at him for how he handled things.”
“Javier knew?” You glowered. “I guess the boys are allowed to keep some secrets.” That was going to be a discussion you had with Javier when you got home.
Connie wiped at her eyes again, sinking back into her chair with a heavy sigh. “I spent all summer thinking something was wrong with me. All summer! I just couldn’t figure out why everything felt fine, but he… It’s so stupid. I’m so pissed off that he put me through this, but equally pissed that I get it.”
“I know this isn’t an easy conversation to have,” You started cautiously, chewing on your thumbnail as you stared at Connie. “But I think it might be time to cut your mother off.”
Connie started to cry again and your heart clenched as you watched her break down beside you.
“Alright, come on. Get up. We’re gonna go into the family room with Monica and have this conversation.” You urged, giving her arm a squeeze as you encouraged her to get up out of her chair. “No more wine.”
“You’re no fun.”
“I get it from Javi.” You shot back, guiding Connie into the family room.
“Are we done talking about Steve’s balls?” Monica questioned, brows drawn together as she met your eyes. “Shit, Connie. Are you okay?”
“Some tough love is about to happen.” You told her flatly as Connie sat down in the middle of the sofa, you and Monica on either side.
Monica scooted closer and gave Connie’s shoulder a squeeze, “Do I need to get the wine?”
“No,” Connie shook her head. “No, she was right. I need to stop. Getting drunk isn’t going… It’s just hard.”
You tucked your legs beneath you, turning on the sofa to face Connie. “I know.” You rubbed your lips together as you mulled over what the right words to say were. Turning your back on a parent was difficult — no matter how terrible they were. But sometimes, it had to be done. Especially when it’s a detriment to your own wellbeing. Or, in this case, your relationship. It was time to cut the ties. “How long have you and Steve been together?”
Connie brought her legs to her chest, wrapping her arms around them as she rested her chin on her knees. “Twenty-two years.”
“In those twenty-two years, has Ethel ever said anything kind towards her son-in-law?”
She shook her head, “Unless you consider the handful of times she’s complimented him on his hair cut.”
“Well, that’s weird.” Monica laughed. “Is that the only nice thing she has to say?”
Connie rolled her eyes, “Most likely. She’s never liked him.”
“We could always start a girl gang of women who hate their parents.” Monica suggested, which made Connie laugh. “I’m serious. Nadia makes these really cool pins.” She leaned over the side of the sofa, grabbing her jean jacket and showing off the pins on her lapel.
“I might just take you up on that.” Connie quipped, before she leaned against you with a dramatic sigh. “I can’t believe Steve felt like he needed to hide a cancer prognosis, out of fear of my mother. If he had just told me… I would’ve stood by him. I wouldn’t have let her use it.”
“It doesn’t matter.” Monica pointed out, “Even if you stand up to them, they’re not going to change. They’ll always find a way to cut you down.” She shook her head slowly, “My parents always suspected I was queer. It’s why they hit me. But when I was in high school, I convinced a friend of mine — he was so nice — to date me. Just to try to control the situation.” She wrapped her arms around her waist, lips drawn thin as she spoke. “But that wasn’t good enough for them. He wasn’t good for me. He wasn’t who they wanted me with. It was all about control.”
“You know my history,” You told Connie with a heavy sigh. “If I hadn’t cut her off, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
Connie nodded her head, “You’re both right.” She wiped at her cheeks, exhaling shakily. “She never wanted me to leave the hollow. She wanted me to live the same life she did. In a tiny house, married to some coal miner or a long-distance truck driver. Miserable and bitter like her.”
“She wanted to control you.” Monica stated.
“She acted like she was going to die when I told her I was leaving with Steve,” Connie recalled. “He got into college — just on the other side of the mountain. Less than a day’s drive in good weather. We’d only been dating for a couple months, but he knew I hated it there. I felt like shit for weeks because my mother acted like she was just going to lay down and die because I’d betrayed her. But I wanted more. I wanted to go to school for nursing. I wanted to live in a real town and not the side of a mountain. She’s never forgiven me for that.”
“I’ll punch her in the face if you want me to.” You remarked with a short laugh. “I’ve been wanting to since she made you cry last year. She’s a bitch and frankly, we both know what her real issue is with the girls.”
Monica gave you a look, “It was painfully obvious.”
“And look, you don’t have to make it a big deal.” You reminded Connie. “You keep contact limited. You can send Christmas cards and birthday cards — but you don’t make time to call her. You don’t welcome her into your home and you don’t visit her. If you want another twenty-two years with Steve, that’s just how it’s going to have to be.”
“I know.” She sank back against the sofa, looking up at the ceiling. “I hate this. I really do. She has always been a thorn in the side of our marriage the entire time. I feel so bad for Steve. He’s never said a mean thing to her or about her.”
“Steve’s a saint, but he’s not off the hook for lying to you.” You reminded her. “But go easy on him. He didn’t do it maliciously.”
“I think… I’m going to call him.” Connie scooted to the edge of the sofa. “Are you both good to go home?”
“I just have to call a cab.”
Monica checked her watch, “Nadia can be here in like fifteen to pick me up.”
“Thank you both.” Connie slung her arms around both of you, pulling you towards her. “I really needed this. I really needed this.”
“I’m just glad you and Steve are going to be okay.”
She nodded, “And we will be. We will.”
You felt terrible for them. But relationships had ups and downs. It was just important that you came out on the ups, rather than the downs.
———
“So you knew about Steve’s balls.” You stated as you rolled onto your side towards Javier. The bedroom was dark, but you could almost imagine his expression just from the huff he let out. “Well?”
“Interesting choice of pillow talk.” Javier remarked as he rolled onto his back, reaching out beneath the covers to grab your leg. He gave it a squeeze, sighing heavily. “Yeah, he told me at the bar last week.”
“So you just found out.”
“Yeah.” He rubbed his thumb over your skin. “I hear he’s sleeping in the guest room. I told him he fucked up. Lying to her for how many months?”
You reached down and rested your hand over his, “I think she’ll let him back in her bed tonight. We talked it through.”
“And the prognosis?”
“He fucked up by lying, but she recognized that he was just trying to keep the peace.”
“He’s scared shitless, baby.” Javier told you. “I’ve never seen him so on edge before. She blew up Monday night.”
“Well, she didn’t know what she was in for. She cooked dinner, bought a fancy teddy, and…”
“He regrets the ‘I need to talk’ shit he pulled.”
“He should!” You shook your head, squeezing his hand. “He is such a sweetheart, but he’s as smart as a box of rocks sometimes.”
Javier chuckled, “What can you expect? He shoots skeet. For fun.”
You snorted, “He’s deeply flawed.”
“You think they’re gonna figure things out?”
“I hope so.” You shifted closer to him, draping your arm over his chest as you rested your cheek on his shoulder. “She’s gonna cut off her mom.”
“Fuck Ethel.”
“Seriously.” You curled your leg around his, resting it in between his thighs. Trying to get closer to him. “I feel bad for both of them, honestly. I understand why Steve did what he did, but… He shouldn’t have left Connie in the dark for so long.”
“I don’t think he planned to,” Javier admitted, running his hand over your forearm. “For what it’s worth, Steve told me he had planned to tell her once he found out whether he had cancer or not. One of the girls got sick — remember the stomach flu that went around? Connie was stressed, he’d just come back from his trip, and he put it off. Then Ethel came and…”
“Now it’s September.” You added, lifting your hand up to cup his cheek. “If you ever think you’re sick… please tell me.”
Javier tilted his head and brushed his lips against yours. “I’d want you right there beside me, baby. I don’t know how Steve managed to get himself up to Tampa and let them remove his whole fucking testicle.”
“They removed the whole thing?” You gaped at that. “Connie acted like it was just a biopsy. Holy shit, no wonder he hasn’t wanted to have sex!”
“Yeah, it’s a whole… thing.” Javier snorted. “I’ve heard more about Murphy’s balls than I ever wanted to.”
“Monica was scandalized by our discussion on Steve’s balls.”
“That poor child.” Javier chuckled. “Did she have fun?”
“She bragged about how excited she was for your Social Policy Analysis class.”
“I think she’s the only one excited about it,” He sounded quite pleased with that. “Everyone else was grumbling about having to turn in a two-hundred page policy.”
“That class is only going to be fun because of me.” You pointed out. “Which one of us secured City Hall for your class?” You couldn’t wait to hear Monica get up at a council meeting and argue for her policy reform.
Javier snorted, “When are you gonna start teaching yourself, baby?”
You traced your finger over his nose in the darkness, “Next semester.”
“Wait, really?”
“I haven’t turned anything in yet, but… I think I’m going to do it. Honestly, I miss working with you.” You admitted. “I’ll still help Steve, as promised… But, I’ve had so much fun helping you with the Policy class.”
Javier curled his arm around you and pulled you into his chest as he rolled onto his side. “Best fucking news I’ve had all week.”
You laughed quietly, nuzzling into his throat. “I thought you’d be happy about it.”
“My office is plenty big enough for you to set up your own desk in there.”
“I can’t sit on your lap?” You laughed as you pressed kisses along his neck. “Damn.”
He gave your ass a playfully squeeze, “Only when the door’s shut.”
You were seconds away from sliding your hand down between your bodies when you heard the creak of your bedroom door and the quietest little voice whispering.
“Mommy? Daddy?”
Javier sighed quietly as he released his hold on you, rolling over and turning the bedside light on. “Hey, princesa. What’s up?”
“I had a nightmare.” Josie said quietly, rubbing at her eyes.
“Well, what are you doing over here?” You questioned, “Come here, baby girl. Get in bed with us.”
Josie didn’t need to be told twice, she pushed the bedroom door shut behind her and bounded her way onto the bed with you. Javier picked her up, despite his bad shoulder, tossing her up in the air a little before settling her down on the bed between the two of you.
“What was the bad dream, sweetheart?” He questioned.
“I was all alone!” Josie said, quite dramatically, clinging to your hand. “It was dark and scary… And there were these creepy sounds and… a witch cackling!”
“Did you leave your Halloween sounds cassette on?”
“Maybe.” Josie said innocently.
“Babydoll, you can’t listen to those at night.”
“Uncle Steve wanted to hear them before he left! He thought they were funny.”
You rolled your eyes, “Then we’ll just have to bill Uncle Steve for the nightmare tax.”
“The nightmare tax?” Josie questioned, wide-eyed as she looked up at her father.
Javier nodded his head, “The nightmare tax. Now Uncle Steve will have the nightmares and you won’t.”
“I bet he’s having nightmares tonight.” You interjected with a wry laugh.
“Oh.” Josie hummed thoughtfully. “So I won’t have anymore bad dreams?”
“Well, surely not with your big strong daddy here to scare away the bad dream monsters.” You remarked, reaching around behind Josie’s head so you could play your fingers through Javier’s hair. “We’ve got you kiddo, don’t worry.”
“I love you mommy.” Josie said, rolling over and clinging to you.
You wrapped your arm around her and kissed the top of her head. “I’ve got you, babydoll.”
“Lights out?”
“Lights out!” Josie cheered.
Javier shut off the light, rolling onto his side and draping his arm across Josie and you. He curled his hand around your hip, his thumb rubbing a small circle there. “Good night.” He whispered in the darkness.
“Nighty-night daddy.”
