you found a stranger in the woods during a storm, not yet knowing that it seemingly change your life.
Tumblr media
IT WAS RAINING THE DAY YOU CAME ACROSS THE STRANGER. the storm had been raging on for what felt like hours now, and you were surprised to see that the large gusts of winds and rain hadn’t blown you away yet.
but the storm was the least of your worries as you found the stranger, heavily injured and now thanks to the rain, covered in mud and leaves. he looked like he was on the verge of death and you noticed the burn marks here and there on his body. you felt your hands throb underneath their bandages as you remember how it felt to be burned by fire – or firebenders.
was he attacked by firebenders? was what ran through your head as you picked him up, throwing his arm over your shoulder as you hurried as fast as you could back to your grandmother’s house.
your grandmother was surprised when you busted through the door with the stranger, and she immediately had you lay him down in order to patch his wounds up. you hadn’t noticed it when you picked him up, now that you were out of the storm, you took in his vibrant blue arrow tattoos that covered his body.
was he an airbender? you had only heard stories of how the airbenders would gain those tattoos after mastering their element. you figured only older air nomads had those arrow tattoos, but you’re glad to see your assumption proven wrong. you also couldn’t help but notice how beautiful the stranger was.
he was probably the most beautiful man you had ever seen in your life. not even the village’s most handsome could match against this stranger.
“he should be fine now, thankfully his injuries weren’t too bad,” your grandmother says and you let out a sigh you hadn’t known to have been holding. after that, your grandmother scolded you to go change your clothes, not fully noticing how you were still soaked to the bone. your mind is only concerned about the stranger.
“do you think he was attacked by firebenders?” you asked your grandmother after you had changed your clothes. the older woman is silent for a moment as she stirs the soup she had been previously making before you stormed inside the door.
“his injuries sure do seem like that’s what happened,” she replies, but you can sense the dread that takes over her body. she really didn’t want that to be the case. recently, you had overheard several of the men in the village talk about how the fire nation has been seen all over the earth kingdom.
everyone felt tense about it, and rightfully so. the fire nation was a powerful nation with their military and obviously also thanks to their bending powers. fire. some would consider fire to be the most powerful element, but others would argue and say it was the most destructive.
you would have to agree with fire being the most destructive element. only because you’ve only seen people use it for destruction.
“i heard some men in the village say they’re worried about the fire nation. some travelers are talking about how they are planning to start a war with the other nations,” you say as you fumble with one of her many nick-nacks that sat on the table.
it all felt weird and something uneasy sat in your stomach at how this was all going. your eyes drifted over to the stranger who laid peacefully in bed.
“i’m not sure, dear, many things happen in this world without reason or explanation and sometimes we just have to accept those things. if the fire nation starts a war, the other nations can only do what they can to either stop it or fight back.”
her words settled on your mind for the rest of the night, even as you ate and went to bed. the stranger was still unconscious and the storm still savagely raged on. you remember your grandmother mumbling about how the spirits must be upset about something for the storm to be this harsh.
WHEN YOU WAKE UP THE NEXT MORNING, you find the stranger trying his best to make it to the door. you let out a gasp at the sight of him limping towards the door.
“hey, you can’t go out! you’re still injured!” you say doing your best to stop him from leaving. the stranger, despite his injuries, is surprisingly much stronger than he seems. he easily blows a gust of air at you, knocking you down as he reaches for and opens the door. you let out a huff as you move and manage to grab his ankle, stopping him from moving.
“let go! i have to go find moni!” he hisses out trying to pry your hand away from his leg.
“no! you’re still injured! you need to rest before you hurt yourself even more,” you bite back before pulling on the stranger’s ankle and making him stumble back.
the stranger falls back, landing on your body and you both let out a groan and you hear footsteps coming from somewhere else in the house, that you can only assume it's your grandmother.
“what on earth are you two doing?” she asks, coming into the room and is surprised to see the stranger collapsed on top of you.
“he was trying to leave, granny! i was just… ugh, trying to stop him. hey, will you… please get off me! you’re kind of heavy,” you say and you feel the stranger shift before he manages to roll off of you and you are quick to stand up.
“i need to leave! i have to go find moni before those fire bastards find him!” the stranger says and it only confirms the fact that he was attacked by firebenders.
“boy, you are in no shape to be looking for your friend. you need to rest,” your grandmother says as she helps him up and makes him sit back on the bed. “if it makes you feel better, my granddaughter will go search for him.”
you look at your grandmother in shock. surprised that she would volunteer for you to search for this stranger’s friend.
“that’s very kind of you, but i would rather look for him. i know he’s probably very scared right now especially thanks to the storm that was going on last night,” the stranger says as he once more stands up. he lets out a small grunt as he stands, but tries his best to hide it.
“then let her go with you. my granddaughter is very familiar with these woods and will help you find your friend faster,” she says and the stranger looks from her to you before down at the floor. its obvious he’s considering it, thinking it over before he lets out a small sigh. its clear your grandmother will not let him go out by himself, adamant on you going with this stranger.
“fine, if you are insistenting then i guess i could use the help,” he says and your grandmother smiles at him before she turns to pack your bag for you to take.
“yeosang,” the stranger says as he watches your grandmother pack the bag. you look at the man with a confused look. “my name… it's yeosang,” he finishes.
“oh, i’m y/n,” you tell him with a little smile.
“SO… WHAT DOES YOUR FRIEND LOOK LIKE?”
“large, fury,” he answers as the two of you walk through the forest together. the aftermath of the storm is something you haven’t seen before. trees uprooted and threw across the forest, branches broken here and there, and it really looked like a tornado had swept through the area.
“well, then he should be pretty easy to find then. there’s a cave not too far from here, maybe he went there to hide,” you suggested after the two of you basically climbed over a large log before continuing on the dirt path that had been basically man-made over the years of people using this route to travel between the different villages in the earth kingdom.
“that’s probably a good place to check,” he says before he allows you to lead him to the cave that’s nearby. the cave is usually a place known to the villagers, especially the kids who are hiding there from their parents when they are going through their “runaway” phase.
“it should be close,” you tell yeosang as and sure enough the two of you come across the cave. yeosang quicken up his pace as he rushed into the cave, calling out to his friend as he entered it.
“moni! moni, are you here? moni!” his voice echoes throughout the cave as you follow close behind him. you were shocked when you seen a large bison hiding out inside the cave, but this didn’t seem like any regular bison. the arrow design on its fur let you know this was a flying bison and more than likely yeosang’s “friend” he was looking for.
“moni!” yeosang said with a sigh of relief as he ran up to the bison and hugged him. the bison lets out a small roar before he lazily licks yeosang who you notice smiles up at the bison before he’s turning to you, his smile somewhat disappearing, but still remaining on his face. “thank you for helping me find moni,” he tells you and you feel a heat rush over your face as you as you can notice the rather gentle smile overtake yeosang’s face.
“um, it's no problem! but… you still need to rest though, you’re in no place to be trying to leave or fly anywhere,” you tell him, still concerned over his well being.
you can tell yeosang is conflicted about what you are telling him. you can see the conflict of everything going through his mind and you wonder if there’s something else he’s worried about. something different than finding his flying bison.
did it have something to do with the firebenders attacking him? was he separated from someone else and wanting to go find them?
“how long will it take until i can leave?” he asks, bringing you out of your thoughts.
“three days at the most,” you answer him.
“then i’ll stay and rest, then on the third day i’ll leave. i… have someone that i need to find,” he says, proving your theory that he was probably wanting to go look for someone.
“okay,” you tell him before you and him are making your way back to your grandmother’s house. yeosang is kind enough to allow you to ride on the back of moni.
THE NEXT THREE DAYS, you spend making sure yeosang doesn’t push himself while also helping take care of moni. the giant bison seemingly takes a quick interest in you as you feed him different types of vegetables that you and your grandmother grew in her small garden, plus whatever you had bought at the market in the village.
you have also started taking a liking to yeosang, he’s become a nice addition to the house that only kept you and your grandmother. the airbender would often share things with you about his people, telling you stories that date back to centuries ago.
you’ve noticed that your village has also taken a liking to yeosang, the village children entranced by his cool persona. often begging him to show them some of his airbending, which he does but not without a few playful complaints thrown in.
“where are you going to go once you heal?” you ask him on the his last night. the two of you are laying in a field near your grandmother’s. moni is not too far away as well, rolling around peacefully in the field.
you refuse to look at yeosang, instead keeping your eyes on the stars above you. word has been spreading that the fire nation is starting to close in on the earth kingdom with rumors about them already killing most of the air nomads.
“i’m not sure, i just know i need to find my friend,” he says and you can hear the concern in his voice at the thought of perhaps not finding his friend.
“your friend… he’s really precious to you isn’t he?” you ask, feeling your heart race for some unknown reason, or rather one you refuse to acknowledge.
“he is, that’s why i need to find him before the fire nation does,” yeosang says with a sudden spark of determination. “do you have anyone precious to you?” he then asks, catching you off guard.
“my grandmother is precious to me,” you tell him, but you know that’s not what he means.
“is there anyone else?” yes, you want to tell him, but you don’t think you have the heart to talk about him. yeosang turns his head briefly to look at you as he notices your quietness. he’s greeted with the sight of your glossy eyes as you continue to look up at the stars. “i’m sorry… you don’t– i shouldn’t have asked.”
“it’s okay, i lost him because i wasn’t brave enough and i think i’ll probably regret it for the rest of my life,” you confess with a heavy heart as you wipe your tears away. the two of you bask in the silence between each other for a few more hours, before yeosang is helping you onto moni and is taking you back to your grandmother’s.
it feels odd to see yeosang off. you want him to stay, but you know he needs to find his friend. the two of you are standing in front of each other, you shuffle from foot to foot as your eyes look from anywhere but at the airbender in front of you. his wounds have healed nicely and you’re happy to see that he’s gotten his strength back.
“um… thank you, y/n, for finding me and helping me,” yeosang says as he looks at you with a soft smile. the two of you have definitely warmed up to each other over the past three days, but you still feel like he’s a stranger to you. you kind of don’t want him to leave so soon, you want to get the chance to know him better.
before you can say anything, your grandmother is coming out of the house, a bag in her hands before she’s basically shoving the bag into your own.
“g-granny? what are you doing?” you ask, taken off guard by her actions.
“my dear, you’re going to join yeosang on his journey. he’ll need someone to look after him and moni,” she says with a smile and you miss the blush that overtakes yeosang’s face.
“go with… yeosang? but granny, what about you? i need to stay and help you out,” you say, you would love to go with yeosang, this could be your chance to leave your village, but… what about your granny? you need to be here for her and help her out around the house.
“my y/n, you don’t need to worry about me. i feel that yeosang might need you more during his journey,” she tells you and you turn to look at yeosang who is already looking at you.
“i don’t think your grandmother is going to let me leave without you,” he starts and you feel kind of bad. like your grandmother has literally pressured him into making him take you along with him. “but i don’t mind. moni seems to have really taken a liking to you, and it would be nice to have some company,” he adds with a smile making you smile as well.
“well, then i guess i can’t argue with you and granny. so… should we be off then?” you ask and yeosang nods. you bid goodbye to your granny before yeosang is helping you on top of moni. the two of you take off as you finally ask yeosang who you are looking for.
“his name is hongjoong, and he’s… he’s the avatar,” he confessed to you.

Crossing the Desert of Eden is not for the faint of heart. It is one of the world’s greatest paradoxes, a place where nature's most wonderful and most dangerous creatures coexist in a delicate balance. Even the sand itself is an example of this—crystalline and beautiful, ever sparkling under the light of the sun, yet each granule is as jagged as splinters of glass. Without proper foot bindings, your journey cannot even begin.
Amidst the harsh landscape, pockets of life burst forth in brilliant defiance. Rare desert blooms dot the barren terrain with bursts of color. Some hold the power to heal, their petals emitting a fragrance that soothes both body and soul. Others are laced with deadly venom, capable of stopping a heart with but a single touch.
Sand serpents slither through the dunes, their scales nearly translucent, giving them the ability to blend in seamlessly with the landscape. One bite is all it takes for total paralysis to overtake you, rendering you incapacitated for mere minutes to hours at a time. Celestial birds soar overhead, searching for prey, their wings casting shadows on the ground below.
And even if you’re able to avoid those threats, blinding winds carry grains of sand like lashes, stinging skin, obliterating landmarks, and disorienting even the most skilled navigators. The desert swallows the unwary, erasing their footprints from existence.
It is in this very place that Wooyoung finds himself, accompanied by seven of his fellow benders. In normal circumstances, he would avoid a place like this at all costs, his sense of self-preservation persevering over the curiosity of what secrets the desert holds. But things haven’t been normal for a long, long time.
He feels like he’s been walking for days, his legs heavy and leaden. Despite his protective robes, the wind and sand have whipped at his skin, leaving it battered and raw. Just one look at the faces of his companions is enough to prove he isn’t the only one feeling this way. The only one who seems miraculously energized is their de-facto leader, Hongjoong. He moves forward with ferocity, a tinge of madness in his eyes.
To his left, Yeosang stumbles, nearly falling onto the sand below. Wooyoung reaches out for him, a second too slow, but luckily San reacts quicker, catching him by the arm. The exhaustion has begun to take its toll. Everyone comes to a stop, nervous energy flowing between them. Everyone except Hongjoong, that is. Seonghwa, the eldest of the group and the one with the most power after their leader, places a hand on his shoulder.
“We need to rest, Joong. Look at the kids—they’re exhausted. Yeosang almost collapsed.”
‘The kids.’ Wooyoung frowns, the endearment not sparking the same joy that it used to. Seonghwa and Hongjoong may only be a year older than the rest of them—two in Jongho’s case—but they’ve always referred to them that way. Wooyoung used to find it cute, often teasing them about how they acted like an old married couple. He supposes that the recent distaste for the nickname comes from the fact that Hongjoong hasn’t been the same ever since he told him about his dream.
It takes a moment for Hongjoong to comprehend what Seonghwa said, thoughts still elsewhere. Yet once his eyes find Yeosang, he immediately acquiesces, apologizing for not stopping sooner. His entire demeanor seems to soften, making him seem more like himself. Wooyoung already feels like he can breathe better because of it.
“Hopefully we aren’t too far from a Dweller community,” Hongjoong says, taking out his compass. “Let’s go.”
Tumblr media
The Dune Dwellers are natives of Eden, having found ways to thrive in even the most unfavorable conditions. They aren’t particularly fond of outsiders, regarding any so-called adventurers as naive and stupid more than anything else. They often find the remains of the less fortunate, bodies lost to the sand. Dwellers are some of the only people who know how to navigate the desert and survive, but even they won’t wander into it aimlessly, searching for a treasure that may or may not exist.
Luckily, it isn’t long until they find one of their communities with Hongjoong’s guidance. Tracking their location becomes easier when you familiarize yourself with the signs the locals leave for one another, like a carving in a rock or some shimmering paint on a cactus. Things that are easy to miss when you don’t know what you’re looking for.
The town is small, cut through the middle by a bustling market area teeming with vendors trying to pawn off their goods. Wooyoung immediately feels some of his tension fade away, the lively environment making him feel more at home. You wouldn’t expect any place in such a barren landscape to be so full of life, but the Dwellers have a thriving community of their own despite their living conditions.
The sounds of haggling and bartering are music to his ears, and he quickly finds himself imbued with newfound energy, eager to start talking to people and fishing for information. Maybe he’ll be able to find some clues as to Pandora’s location, and Hongjoong can finally be appeased. He makes a quick plan with the others to meet at the town’s small inn at sunset before wandering off on his own.
The scent of spices, freshly baked bread, and cooking meat mingle in the air as he walks, making his mouth water. He stops at a stall selling juice made from prickly pears, kept cool by the waterbender who continuously refreezes the ice it sits upon. In exchange for a few copper coins, he buys a glass and greedily gulps it down.
He shivers, the cold drink a shock to his system in the hot, dry climate. It is both tangy and sweet and he hums, pleased, as he wipes his mouth with the back of his hand and returns the glass to the merchant. Just as he goes to pull his hand back, the man grabs his wrist. Wooyoung's heart jumps in his chest and, though he tries to keep his composure, he is sure the shock shows on his face. Dwellers may not greet outsiders with open arms, but they’ve never shown any outward acts of aggression toward them before.
“What are you doing here, nakuto? You’re a long way from the Water Tribe.”
Wooyoung gently removes his arm from the man’s grasp, though he is no longer fearful. The term nakuto, a respectable term for ‘young one,’ brings back memories of his home and instantly puts him at ease. “How did you know I was a waterbender?”
“I don’t see many of my own kind out here; most are exiles from the Fire Nation or native sandbenders. Your necklace gives you away.”
Instinctively, Wooyoung reaches up, fingers caressing the delicate shells around his neck. He supposes it is reminiscent of the Water Tribe, but he’s worn it for years and barely remembers that it’s there. It was a gift from his brother, a good luck charm given to him when he left for the Fire Nation seven years ago.
The man continues, “Did something happen to your Tribe, boy? It’s not safe out here.”
“No, it’s not like that. I’m here with a group of other benders—we’re looking for the eternal library, Pandora.”
“Pandora,” the man scoffs. “A myth. You should turn back while you still can.”
“I’m afraid turning back isn’t an option. Come on, pakana. Surely you must know something.”
The man harrumphs, though Wooyoung can tell the use of the honorific pleases him by the slight smile that tugs at his lips. “You can call me Marok.”
“I’m Wooyoung.”
“Well, Wooyoung, there really isn’t that much information out there about Pandora; I probably don’t know much more than you do.” Marok creates a small stream of water from the melting ice, absent-mindedly spinning it around his fingers as he talks. “I’ll tell you what—go talk to ol’ Nadira. She’s a sandbender, and been here almost all her life. If anyone were to know something, it’d be her. Go west of town and look for a purple tent with yellow flags.”
“Thank you, Marok—I appreciate your help. Yui remoi.”
“Bayui jilok.”
Wooyoung nods, acknowledging Marok’s blessing, and starts to head west. The sun has begun to set, and he suspects he has less than an hour before he has to meet the others at the inn. Hopefully, whoever Nadira is, she’ll be cooperative. With the town being as small as it is, it doesn’t take him long to reach the outskirts, and the bright purple tent is easy to spot, a beacon of color amongst the sand. Just as he reaches the entrance, a girl pushes the flap aside, nearly bumping into him as she exits in a hurry.
“Sorry,” she mutters, barely acknowledging him as she rushes back to town.
The hair on the back of Wooyoung’s neck stands up. He doesn’t get a good look at her face, but her voice and white robes… He stops himself, shaking away the uncomfortable feeling of familiarity. Her eerie similarity to the girl he’s been seeing in his dreams for the past few nights is of little importance. He’s not trusting his visions ever again and will do whatever he can to avoid those uncertain futures. He quickly enters the tent, ready to get some answers so that he and the others can leave this town and the girl behind come morning.
Tumblr media
You rush past the boy entering the tent, barely sparing him a glance as you hurry back toward town. Your conversation with Nadira was unsatisfactory, to say the least. She couldn’t tell you much more than you already knew, which is that Pandora is near impossible to find and even harder to get into, especially as a non-bender. It’s rumored to be buried far under the sand, sealed shut by an elemental lock. However, she was surprised by the map you carried with you, saying she hadn’t ever known there to be someone who successfully cataloged all of Eden. She couldn’t confirm whether or not the entirety of it was correct, though she did verify that certain locations lined up with her own knowledge of the desert.
You relax your steps, an exasperated laugh slipping from your lips as you realize you were practically stomping out of frustration. You take a moment to center yourself; as tempting as it may be to sell the map to the nearest street vendor, you’ve traveled too long and too far to give up now. Freedom is nearly in your grasp—you can feel it. You will claw your way to it if you must.
Double-checking that the map is secure inside your sling bag, you tighten the strap around your torso and head through the doors of the inn. The atmosphere is much livelier now that it’s late afternoon, with talking and laughter nearly drowning out the small band playing in the corner. The bar area seems to be where most people are congregating, chugging down mead and ale. The one serving maid is busy juggling orders from all directions, delivering filled mugs to rowdy drinkers who seem to enjoy cheering each other on for every sip taken.
As you weave through the crowded tables in search of a seat, you can’t help but notice a group of travelers that stand out from the crowd. You could sense their disharmony from a mile away—two members seem to be locked in a heated argument, heads close together as they speak in hushed voices. A few of the others seem to be playing a drinking game that involves making silly gestures and mimicking one another while one boy gazes off into the distance, lost in thought. Your interest peaked, you take a seat at the bar, right next to a man who has several empty tankards in front of him. He doesn’t seem too inebriated, but surely he’s drunk enough that his lips will be loose.
You place a few coins on the counter, ordering two drinks. You slide one to the man to capture his attention and nod in the group's direction, asking, “So, what do you know about the new guys in town?”
The man eyes you, scrutinizing your appearance. He must see something that he likes because he decides to indulge you, taking the ale in hand and relaxing further into his seat. “Heard from the barkeep that they’re some adventurers tryna find the library of Pandora.” He huffs and takes a long drink before adding, “A buncha fools.”
You bristle, wanting to defend them as their goal seems to be the same as yours, but you stop yourself, not wanting to discourage the man from sharing more information. “I see. Are they benders?”
He nods. “Yeah, far as I know. One of ‘em is apparently tryna get some information outta Nadira.”
You think back to the boy you saw entering the tent and curse yourself for not paying more attention. You could have talked to him, asked him why he was seeing Nadira, and proposed some sort of alliance. Winning one man over would be easier than winning over seven all at once. But alas, that seems to be your only option. Taking one last swig of your ale, you hop off the bar stool and give the man a two-finger salute.
“Thanks for your time—enjoy the rest of your night.”
He raises his mug and bids you farewell as you turn around, steeling your nerves as you march right up to the group of benders. One of the quarreling men who dons a head of striking red hair notices you first, his eyes instantly narrowing upon your approach. He slides closer to the others, almost protective in his movements, seemingly forgetting his previous argument.
“Can I help you?”
His voice is steady, laced with none of the heat you had expected. Instead, his words are cold, punctuated in a way that cuts you like a knife. However, you refuse to let him intimidate you.
“Yes, actually. I heard you were looking for Pandora.”
He quirks an eyebrow. “Why is that of any interest to you?”
“I’m looking for it too.”
“And?”
You grit your teeth, his standoffish attitude grating on your nerves. The man he was fighting with places a hand on his arm and steps slightly in front of him, greeting you with a smile. You can immediately feel the difference in his aura, the gentleness radiating off of him. He is the water to the red-headed man’s fire. Perhaps literally.
“Sorry, Hongjoong is just a bit… on edge lately. I’m Seonghwa.”
He takes a moment to introduce each of the others before asking for your name in return. You’re surprised to find that they’re a pretty well-balanced group, with at least one bender for each element. That will definitely come in handy when it comes to the elemental lock. You almost can’t believe your luck; after all this time, maybe things are finally turning around in your favor.
Yunho, an airbender who was a part of the group playing the drinking game earlier, chimes in. “So, you’re looking for Pandora too?”
You nod. “That’s right. I think we can help each other.” You reach into your bag and wrap your fingers around the map. “You see, I—”
“Wooyoung!”
You’re interrupted by San, a dimpled firebender, who gets up to excitedly greet the missing member of their party; Wooyoung must be the boy you bumped into earlier. Now that you have a moment to actually look at him, you suppose that he’s quite beautiful, with a sharp nose and full lips. His hair is like nothing you have ever seen before—silver on top with blue ends, comparable only to how it looks when the light of the moon meets the sea.
Your lips barely part to greet him when he turns to you, eyes ablaze with hatred. “What is she doing here?”

Hi! it's been quite a long time since I opened this blog due to the lack of energy and I've been busy finalizing my thesis. I also decided to take down my woosansang monster hunter AU due to some creative block that causing the plot to become confusing for me😵‍💫 but now, I decided to change the entire plot and world building. It has a long way to go but I'm quite excited for this one.
Another stories that I already wrote was Ateez x f! reader regency inspired AU and Ateez x reader ATLA inspired AU. I got this inspiration after I finished reading Persuasion and Emma by Jane Austen and ofc rewatching ATLA in my break time. Actually I have several more ideas on reader x Ateez stories but it'll come later.
Thank you so much for those that willing to help and I'll post the teaser for the stories as soon as I can🤎🙏.

BURIED IN SNOW
pairing : water bender!san x non-bender!f!reader genre : atla au, romance, eventual poly relationship warnings : canon atla violence, language, mentions of the fire nation killing people
“wow, san you’re doing a great job!” you say from where you had been watching the water bender practice.
san let’s the water he had been practice with back into the snow before he turns to you with a smile on his face. since you all had arrived in the north pole, both san and hongjoong have been practicing nonstop with water bending masters.
“do you think so?” he asks and you notice the light blush on his face as he scratches the back his neck.
“yep! a real water bending master in the making of you ask me,” you tell him as the two of manage to make yourselves closer to each other. now standing only a foot away from each other, it’s much easier to see san’s blush. “i bet you’ve been practicing a lot during your travels with the avatar.”
“yeah… kind of have to learn on the spot when you’re being chased by the fire nation,” he says with an awkward laugh and you nod your head in agreement.
“yeah, they definitely don’t give up on a chase that’s for sure,” you say causing the two of you to laugh.
“it’s been both dangerous and exciting, but i’m glad i left my village with yunho to come along with hongjoong.”
“yeah traveling with yeosang and mingi has been an adventure.”
“i’m glad hongjoong and yeosang got to reunite with each other. felt like it took a hundred years for them to find each other,” san says as the two of you begin to walk around the tribe together.
“yeah, it was nice seeing them find each other. it was really fun traveling with him and mingi. i’ll miss them.”
“miss them? why?”
“well i mean, i promised yeosang to help him find his friend and i kept it. so i guess i’ll be returning back to my village after this.”
“w-what, you can’t leave like that. yeosang and mingi will be devastated to know you’re leaving,” san says as a small protest.
“but i’m not very helpful in the grand scheme of everything. i can’t bend and i can’t fight, so i’ll be useless to you guys.”
“no, you won’t be useless,” san says stopping you from walking as he takes your hand into one of his. you can’t help feel heat rise to your cheeks as he looks you dead in the eyes, all serious.
“you’ve done a lot more than you give yourself credit for, mingi told us about how you risked your life when him and yeosang got sick or how you did a lot to help all the earth kingdom villages. you’ve helpful, so don’t leave, okay?”
“i-i-i’ll think about you,” you say shocked at his words and how passionate he seems about proving you wrong.
“promise?” he asks, holding out his gloved pinky and your eyes drift between his hand and his eyes before you link pinkies with him.
“promise.”
“ah, y/n, there you are!” you and san take a step away from each other and turn to see prince seonghwa walking towards you both.
“yes, prince seonghwa?”
“i found those scrolls you had asked me about and wanted to show them to you,” he voice is soft as he speaks and you perk up at the mentions of the scrolls.
“ah, did you?” prince seonghwa nods and motions to lead you away.
“i’ll see you later, san,” you bid the water bender goodbye before walking off with the water tribe prince.
san watches as you both walk away with a sad smile, hoping that you’ll keep his promise and not leave, but instead join them.

Treasure — J.WY [Pt. 7]
Tumblr media

PAIRING: Waterbender Wooyoung x Non-bender F!Reader

WORD COUNT: 1.1k
LINKS: Ode To ATEEZ Masterlist | Together in Harmony Masterlist | Cross-posted on AO3 and Wattpad

Tumblr media
Your footsteps echo off of the ancient stone floor as you venture inside Pandora, taking in the interior with wide eyes. It stretches out before you like a labyrinth, with towering shelves that are seemingly endless as they disappear into the distance. Your fingers gently graze the worn spines of hundreds of books as you pass by, taking in a few of the titles: “The Legend of the Underwater City,” “The Chronicle of Lost Stars,” and more in languages you don’t even recognize.
Floating balls of yellow light flit around the tops of the shelves, the only things standing between you and complete darkness. One comes to circle around you, as if it is sentient, inspecting you. It reminds you of the fireflies from your hometown, and the memory makes you smile. You reach out a hand, brushing your fingers against it. It sparks orange and sends a jolt of electricity down your arm, making your hair stand on end. You murmur a soft apology, taking the warning for what it is—don’t bother them, and they won’t bother you.
“Y/N, stop!”
So distracted by the small creature, Wooyoung’s shout saves you from bumping directly into a wall of darkness. He grabs your wrist and pulls you back against his chest, walking you backward a few steps.
You get a better look at the darkness from farther away. It appears to be humanoid in shape, hand-like appendages melting into the book it is holding, like candle wax onto a desk or ink spilled on paper. It doesn’t seem to notice either of you, too invested in what it is reading, but it whispers things you cannot comprehend.
“What the hell is that?” you ask, voice shaking.
“No idea,” Wooyoung says. “But let’s avoid them, yeah?”
You nod, your heart still in your throat as you carefully step around the figure. There's something melancholic about the way it sounds, like a song you heard once but can never remember no matter how hard you try.
Wooyoung’s grip slides down from your wrist to your hand, interlacing his fingers with yours as he takes the lead and walks deeper into the library. “Stay close.”
You continue to step lightly, not failing to notice how all of the books are organized impeccably, how no dust at all settles on the covers. You wonder if time has stopped here somehow, or if something is responsible for the library’s upkeep. You hear the others trickle in behind you, their soft murmurs and gasps of awe merging with the whispers of the dark creatures. Wooyoung shouts a warning so that none of the boys unwittingly stumble into one like you almost did.
Finally, you reach what must be the center of Pandora, and the sight takes your breath away. A grand hall lies before you, punctuated by a painted, domed ceiling. Stairs spiral upwards on either side, disappearing into even more book-lined corridors. Marble tables fill the space, each one littered with scrolls, quills, and ink pots.
Toward the back, there is a large statue of an owl, carved with so much detail that it almost looks alive. Its wings are spread out as if it might take flight, and its eyes are made of gemstones that resemble the night sky. Hongjoong stands right in front of it, gazing up at it inquisitively.
Yeosang is the last one to trickle in and, just as he does, the entrance doors slam shut and the eyes on the owl statue begin to glow. Hongjoong takes a few steps back, calling to his fire in preparation. Everyone else follows suit, readying their respective elements and taking defensive stances. You hover a hand over your weapons belt.
The owl surges to life, stone becoming delicate feathers. It flaps its wings once, twice, and the gusts are so strong they send papers flying and almost knock you off your feet.
“Everyone, get back!” Hongjoong yells, a ball of flame ready in his hand.
“Who are you, and what do you seek?” A voice echoes through the hall, deep and ancient. It takes a moment for you to recognize that it belongs to the owl itself; its beak never opens, yet somehow it speaks.
Not sensing any malicious intent, Hongjoong lets his fire dissipate. He hesitates for a moment, uncharacteristically uncertain, before replying, “An hourglass.”
Your breath catches in your throat, and the world seems to crumble around you. An hourglass…?
Untangling your fingers from Wooyoung’s, you disappear into a corner of the room, trying to calm your racing thoughts. He moves to follow you, the instinct to do so seeming as natural as a flower searching for the sun, but you stop him with a small shake of your head. You try to ignore the thrum of pain that shoots through you at his wounded expression.
“We have many of those here.” The owl’s voice reverberates through you. “Along with thousands of other treasures. The library and all of its resources are at your disposal. But beware—if you spend too much time here, you will become like one of the Inklings. An echo of your former selves, lost to the books until the end of time.”
Then, as if it was never alive at all, the owl turns back into solid stone, leaving a final whisper of warning behind. “And you cannot take anything out of here, or else there will be terrible consequences.”
Chaos erupts. Seonghwa rushes over to Hongjoong, a harsh expression on his face as he whispers something under his breath. You hear the others loudly discussing what this means for their journey thus far, whether or not all this time has been wasted. Wooyoung looks over to you again and starts to head in your direction but is stopped by San who pulls him into one of the many ongoing conversations.
With everyone distracted, you slip away into a small corridor. You hurry through rows of shelves and display cases, the sight of them blurring together. Your heartbeat pounds in your ears, and the panic you managed to fight down earlier is clawing at your throat.
An hourglass.
The Cromer.
Can they really be looking for the exact same thing as you? For the same thing that can buy your freedom?
“Y/N!”
Wooyoung.
You turn, and the sight of him alone is enough to make the tears finally spill over. He immediately rushes to your side, wrapping you in his arms. He hugs you to his chest, squishing his cheek against the side of your head, and you have never felt more safe. More loved.
Can you bring yourself to betray him? To betray all of them?

I hope I’m not the only one that thinks ATEEZ’s San looks like a human version of scarless Zuko. I think it’s the jawline/sharp chin and the fox-like eyes. But if I were to fancast Zuko it would be Choi San 😤

ATEEZ in ATLA
BTS | The Boyz
I’m binging atla again so this is what i shall offer to yall hehe
Hongjoong
What: Airbender
Occupation: Bending instructor
Birthplace: Air Temple Island
Fun Fact: Was one of the weakest benders when young but was so determined to learn and master the thirty-six levels of airbending that he would lose track of time and even forget to eat and sleep. His dedication soon allowed him to surpass his fellow benders and he received his airbending tattoos at the age of 19. Also, because of the struggles he went through during his training, he cares deeply about his students and even stays up to help train Yeosang when he comes home late from pro-bending matches
Tumblr media
Seonghwa
What: Firebender
Occupation: Owner of Rising Up - a traditional Fire Nation restaurant
Birthplace: Kirachu Island
Fun Fact: Rising Up is regularly voted as having the best spicy noodles in the city as well as always winning the award for Republic City’s Cleanest Restaurant, a feat that Seonghwa takes immense pride in... but the restaurant also has a tendency to experience the most kitchen fires than any other eatery (at least three times a month)
Tumblr media
Yunho
What: Waterbender / Healer
Occupation: Agna Qel'a Unagi pro-bending team captain
Birthplace: Northern Water Tribe
Fun Fact: Wanted to be a medic while growing up and was on his way to hand in his application for an apprenticeship with a famous healer in the Northern Water Pole when he saw a group gathered and cheering around a radio. Curious, he went over and became so intrigued with the play-by-play of the pro-bending match that he missed the application deadline. Surprisingly, he wasn’t very upset and moved to Republic City shortly thereafter to enter the world of pro-bending
Tumblr media
Yeosang
What: Airbender
Occupation: Agna Qel'a Unagi pro-bending team
Birthplace: Eastern Air Temple
Fun Fact: Moved to Air Temple Island as part of an exchange program and is extremely talented at using his airbending staff for gliding. He’s the best flyer at both the Eastern Air Temple and Air Temple Island and prefers to fly everywhere over walking, driving, etc. Also has a habit of flying to the top of any tall structure he comes across for a bird’s eye view of the area (and will get sulky if he’s not allowed to)
Tumblr media
San
What: Earthbender / Seismic Sense
Occupation: Agna Qel'a Unagi pro-bending team
Birthplace: Kyoshi Island
Fun Fact: Saved Wooyoung from a street scammer when he detected the woman was lying through her increased heart rate. After outing the woman’s true intentions and defeating her when she angrily attacked, San went to go about his day but Wooyoung begged him to join his pro-bending team since they needed an earthbender. After endless pestering from the firebender, San eventually agreed on the condition they would be named after the dangerous creature that lurks in the water by his hometown
Tumblr media
Mingi
What: Nonbender
Occupation: Republic City University student & Agna Qel'a Unagi pro-bending team manager
Birthplace: Northern Water Tribe
Fun Fact: He and Yunho knew each other at the Northern Water Tribe and even left the tribe around the same time but didn’t know they were both moving to Republic City until Mingi saw Yunho on a broadcasted pro-bending match. A few days later, Mingi skipped an exam and snuck into their team’s waiting room before a match to berate Yunho for not saying he was moving to the city and demanding they allow him to be their manager
Tumblr media
Wooyoung
What: Firebender
Occupation: Agna Qel'a Unagi pro-bending team
Birthplace: Republic City
Fun Fact: Forces his team members to eat at Rising Up after every pro-bending match they win and has a tradition of kicking open the front door while screaming at the top of his lungs and shooting small flames from his fists.... then gets pouty when Seonghwa consequently scolds him for disrupting his guests
Tumblr media
Jongho
What: Earthbender
Occupation: Spirit World guide
Birthplace: Omashu
Fun Fact: Ran away from home to Republic City so he could avoid taking over his family’s cabbage business. The day he arrived in the city he got lost in the Spirit Wilds, but instead of panicking he fell in love with the vines and the spirits that lived there which prompted him to become a tourist guide. He’s one of the spirits’ favorite guides (largely because he will sing to them in his spare time) and they will always make his tours eventful and fun so he can get lots of tips and great reviews

Lina but what if Jibeom + atla au
casey but what if you just murdered me with a knife to the chest that'd hurt a little less ok in all seriousness though I love writing atla aus and it's been like a year since I wrote the last one so thank you for this request casey even if it did kill me inside <3
4 year anniversary drabble game: send me a Stray Kids/The Boyz/Golden Child/Ateez member + a prompt (check out the post for ideas) and I’ll write a drabble for you!
Until now I still couldn't figure out which specific element Jibeom would bend so I made him the Avatar. Sue me
this did not go in the direction I originally planned I'm so sorry
~
Title: Ash Maker
Pairing: Jibeom x gender neutral!reader
Word count: 954
Triggers: cursing, mentions of death (nothing graphic)
~
"Again."
Jibeom lies flat on his back, staring up at the sky. What he wouldn't give for one moment without your voice saying 'again' in cold monotone, forcing him to get up once more and try the stupid firebending exercises that he can't get right -
Your face appears above his, carefully wiped of any sign of emotion other than an arched eyebrow that he kind of wants to rip off your face. "Did you hear me?"
With a huff and a groan, Jibeom drags himself up. The sun blazes hot onto his skin, pouring even more sweat down his face as he reluctantly settles into position again. "Remember," you say, "control your -"
"Breathing," Jibeom snaps, cutting you off. "I know."
You don't say anything. Jibeom almost wishes you would. It's infuriating, the way you take everything he slings at you with that blank face that never seems to hold a single expression - it's like you want to confirm the belief that all firebenders are coldhearted murderers who burn and kill without a second thought, just like they burned his village to the ground -
He punches the air. Too late, he remembers that his breath has to be even in order for him to have a chance at success. A sizzle of fire wisps out of his knuckles and fizzes out into smoke.
Another failure.
Jibeom lowers his hands. Squeezes his eyes shut. Takes a deep breath, in, out, in, out -
"Again."
That's it.
"Will you shut up for a minute?" he snarls, opening his eyes. "All you ever have to say is again, again - do you have any actual fucking feedback that isn't just do it again?"
"Breathe." It's infuriating how calm you look, even in the face of Jibeom's anger. For someone who bends fire, you're really cold as ice. "You have to control your breathing. Firebending doesn't come from the body, it comes from the spirit, which is controlled by your breath -"
"I know," Jibeom snaps. "You say that all the fucking time."
The raised eyebrow moves higher, somehow. Jibeom's fists clench. "If you know, then why aren't you putting it into practice?"
"Putting it into practice like you ash makers practiced murdering my entire village?"
The eyebrow lowers. Your face goes blank, carefully blank, so carefully blank that Jibeom immediately knows you're hiding some unknown emotion behind that calm mask, something as deep as the grief Jibeom carries for everyone that he lost.
When you look at him, instinctively, Jibeom knows he's crossed a line. "What did you call me?"
The words linger on his tongue. Ash maker. But though he said it so easily a moment ago, the term now sticks on his tongue, unwilling to leave his throat.
He doesn't need to say it, anyway. You both know what he said.
"Ash maker." A wave of fury and something else that looks too familiar for Jibeom to properly process it crosses your face but you squeeze your eyes shut, schooling your features back into an indifferent mask. It's unnerving, how easily you do it. "You called me an ash maker."
He stays silent.
You scoff brief, quiet. It carries across the field like an arrow hissing through the air. "Fine. I'm an ash maker." The cold, blank expression on your face scares Jibeom even more than that wave of pure fury. "I'm just a fucking ash maker. Doesn't matter that I was born in the colonies. Doesn't matter that I could've been a damn earthbender if Guanyin had decided it so. Doesn't matter that I watched my earthbender dad die at the hands of Fire Nation soldiers and I have to live with the fact that I bend the same element that killed him."
Jibeom's breath sticks in his throat. He didn't know. He didn't know - he wouldn't have said it if he knew -
You might have, the horrible voice in the back of his head says. You still might have.
The worst thing is, the voice might be right.
You step forward. Jibeom wants to move back, but his feet root him to the ground. "You know what, though?" you snarl, and for a moment, a whirlwind of grief and anger flickers in your eyes. "You know what? At least I'm not an adult whining about having to learn another stupid element even though the fate of the world relies on it. At least I'm not ignoring what my teacher has been saying over and over again out of spite and anger." You take another step, planting yourself right in his face. "And at least I've had the decency to only ever call you by your name, not something meant for those who meaninglessly take lives, Avatar." You spit the title like it's dirt in your mouth. "Because, as infuriating as you are, I know you're not a murderer."
Your expression turns cold again as you step backward, leaving Jibeom in his own space once more. He thinks he should maybe feel relieved, but it doesn't make him feel any better. "I'm done," you say, voice clipped. "We're too different. I can't teach you. You keep seeing me as a murderer. I understand that, as much as you seem to think otherwise. It's a little hard not to when I have to watch myself bend every day." Your lips thin. "But until you figure that out, I can't teach you. Find yourself another firebending instructor who you don't think is an ash maker. And do it fast." You turn around. "There's too much at stake for little old murderer me to get in the way."
Jibeom can only watch your back disappear into the distance as you walk away.

a lot of my reasons are based off of colour theory and just vibes
FIRST OF ALL . i forgot yunho...someone end me rn wtf 😐😐 anyway this boy is RED!!!! he’s energetic, fun, loud, and is an aries soooo yea
yeosang is pastel yellow because i feel like he’s a light person and i also associated the colour yellow with gemini lolz,,,and yellow for wooyoung as well but he’s gold because i feel like he’s very treasured by the people around him!! and gold is for winners, people who succeed!! woo wanted to succeed with yeosang (byeee their 6 yr friendship lives in my head rent free)
lavender for san because the colour brings me a lot of comfort and it’s easy on the eyes,,i find san to have a very comforting aura
HOT PINK CUZ MINGI IS SEXY‼️‼️ no further explanation
blue is secure and peaceful, but it can also be lonely. i just think it’s soo fucking hilarious how he has a pic of hongjoong up when he’s in the studio like 😭 someone hug this lonely ass mf😭😭
jongho is green because for some reason if ateez were in atla au, he would be an earth/lava/metal bender ngl. stronk boy yk?
speaking of atla,,hongjoong would def be the avatar like CMON don’t even deny it‼️ he’s so creative and colourful (literally too,,like his hair!!!) it’s technically not a colour,,,it’s hard to decide on One colour for him
