“I’m only seventeen, I don’t know anything” hits different when you are also seventeen and don’t know anything.

no but the way augustine is just like "do you remember" and "remember when i pulled up.." and "i remember thinking i had you" and how she is telling james that she remembers it all and is continuously asking him if he remembers it too, if he hasnt forgotten about her, and how that is exactly what ends up happening. the girl who remembers everything gets forgotten in the end.

something that i love about the folklore love triangle is that there’s nobody in the wrong. taylor made that clear. james was just a seventeen-year-old boy who made a stupid mistake; augustine is just a girl who fell in love in a single summer; and betty just wanted someone who would love her for her.

You're On Your Own Kid is an epilogue to August
august is the story of a summer love. yoyok sets the scene immediately with "summer went away, still the yearning stays." in august, she hopes he'll ask to meet her behind the mall, and behind most malls there is a parking lot, where she plays her songs. salt air and sprinkler splashed as summer imagery and rust on your door and fireplaces ashes depicting fall colors. will you call when when you're back at school? i touch my phone as if it's your face. you weren't mine to lose. i picked the petals, he loved me not. august slipped away into a moment in time. take the moment and taste it. you were never mine. i saw something they can't take away. i never needed anything more. there's just one who could make me stay. i remember thinking i had you. i hosted parties and starved my body like i'd be saved by a perfect kiss. lost in the memory, you weren't mine to lose, everything you lose is a step you take. do y'all see my vision.
