My stats are kinda wonky because Echo Garden took 4 years to write but since it ended in 2024, all its stats go towards 2024's totals.

Other than TEG, I only wrote 2* other fics and I love them all equally tbh so I chose Nucleus Memory simply because it isn't TEG and was a really fun big bang with Sync :)

The numbers for the fics at the bottom are total comments and total bookmarks (AO3 distinguishes between comment threads vs total comments and public bookmarks vs total (public + private) bookmarks so I went with total for both).

*I also wrote my secret solenoid fic but it won't be published until tomorrow which means it'll count towards 2025's stats!

Long post!

This was a challenging year for many people, for sure! Personally, there were a lot of things that took away the energy/time I need to write. Family things (2 funerals and a wedding) and my day job (which is killing me, sometimes fast, sometimes slow). TEG ate my brain completely and so even though it ended in February, I haven't written very much since then. But I've decided to try to take a healthy view of this and not be mad that it's taking so long to recover xD but I do hope it hurries up! I had an initial goal to move on to original writing after TEG, but I think I'll try one more Really Big Fic as practice before doing so.

Since I only wrote 3 fics in 2024, I'll do a lil list of my thoughts:

The Echo Garden: massive fic! thanks so much to all the new readers and to everyone who's drawn art or left comments or rec'd it to new folks. it's astonishing to me that it's still drawing new readers :u I'm very happy overall with the fic. it was hard to write, sometimes, but I'll keep it positive here! there are so so so SO SO many posts about this fic, and comments, and the whole last chapter of it is a giant author's note with even more info. honestly I don't know what else to say about it that wouldn't either be a repeat of information or extremely long. it's very probable that if you're reading this post, it's because of TEG, so thank you for reading! :)

Nucleus Memory: reverse mini bang project with sync! they drew a pic and had a pitch, and I and another writer each wrote a fic about it! sync had some awesome ideas, I'm really happy I was selected to do their prompt. they did some beautiful art!! be sure to check it out if you haven't!

Bismuth: this fic was done for a Soundwave-centric zine! in Jan 2024 I read The Locked Tomb series and it had a big effect on my brain. this fic was an attempt to write something in an inspired style: disjointed, parallel timelines. scenes out of order. purposeful confusion to make the ending reveal rewarding. plus I got to jam another rarepair into the TF mire

In 2025 I hope to plan and post another big Rodimus/Soundwave fic, as well as any little idea that comes along, and also maybe participate in the TF big bang and secret solenoid events again! I'll probably abstain from zine events, but, I say that every time and then apply anyway xD

2020-2024 will always be the TEG years for me, and it's honestly strange to leave it behind. the 5 year anniversary of posting chapter 1 is in a couple months (holy moly :u) and that's wonderful and humbling. I don't think anything else I ever do will resonate so much with people, which is good in that I'm glad it gained such a happy audience and helped so many people. But it does make the idea of working on future fics to less reception a little less appealing.

There's nothing to do but keep going, though. I mean, the alternative is to not do anything? Nah. I do think unless another TF One style canon production drags a bunch more young people into the fandom, there probably will be a slow decline of new readers throughout 2025. Eventually it'll become less of a daily reminder for me, and it'll become more of a Past Thing and less of a Now Thing. If that doesn't make any sense, don't worry. It's like... idk. I get a lot of reminders of its existence every day. Which is fine! I think it'll peter off, though. And I'll work very hard again to make something to share, and I hope people will love it just as much =)

Jayce Giopara gets stuck in a time loop the day that Viktor comes to steal the bracken crystal!! It’s a really really good fic, and one of the best time loop ones I’ve read, with a lot of good comedic moments, ezreal makes an appearance, it’s really good!

4 Ships:

Yue Qingyuan/Shen Jiu: Two great tastes that taste great...ah no, too bitter plah plah. XD Shen Jiu has a very strong presence in the narrative despite dying on page -1. He is the protagonist of a story where things never got better up until he became the next protagonist’s villain. And Yue Qingyuan loves that for him. Did you need him to hide shidi’s body? Do you want him to sweat the sweat from your brow from beating that one child in particular?

Seriously though they have so much potential to dig into. Reveling the one key information each needs, that one event didn’t happen or happened in a different way or to someone else, great! The high charge of emotion that is bubbling like a pressure cooker! Eee!

3xun, Nie Mingjue/Lan Xichen/Jin Guangyao: Just like the above ship, but now with new angles! Class struggle, legitimacy, compassion, justice, reasonably priced love and a hard boiled egg (leading to a son being thrown down like, four sets of stairs. Seriously. Meng Yao is the spice that holds this recipe together he can have whatever he wants). There is that same pressure coming from things just never meshing right because people are talking past eachother as a result of their individual upbringings and traumas.

Cloud Strife/Barret Wallace: Man. Big. Mmmmm. Cloud Strife could use some looking after, and Barret Wallace has daddy energy to spare! This one is more of a rare pair off to the side of the great Seph, Aerith, Tifa, Zack, all those other soldiers, war. They have things in common! Both are dual survivors of Shinra burnt towns, both lead Avalache, they have a tension that comes from Cloud replacing him as the leader even while they both come to try and trust eachother. Good meat to make a good story with.

Kim Dokja/Yoo Joonghyuk/Han Suyoung: Did you want to cry because of the very concept of platonic incarnations of the love that is both given and received in the act of reading, being a reader, writing, being written, being yourself within and without a character? Well it doesn’t matter if you don’t this book and ship will find your tears. The book is put together like a crystalline clock, you can see the machinations and they are only made more lovely and tragic by understanding. But in specific to this ship, they have the tension that I need to make a ship enjoyable. Big emotions. Hidden feelings.

Last Song: I’ve got a piano BGM ten hour mix on, heaven knows what any one song I’m listening to at any time is called-Oh hey wait thats Always With me (spirited Away).

Current Reading: I’ve got 6 tabs of fanfic open right now. The Power of Friendship (and This Gun I found) by Gallus cause I wanted to reread when the new chapter came out then put that off for smaller bites. Thats Not a Real Trope You Hack Author by Boom_After_Dark. It starts off haha funny, the author is stuck in his own book and encountering tropes he deliberately used incorrectly. Oh, those are feelings. He is not haha anymore. Hm, a long fic collection with Shen Jiu by blackflowetea. Stripper au Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian by pumpkinpaix. My Erstwhile Dear by ErradianWhoCantRead which is a Jiggy skips town after Guanyin Temple then writes back home fic. and Anyway, heres Wuji by kakikaeru. Very funny fic with the Lan Juniors + Jin baby.

Last Movie: Puss in Boots, the Last Wish. I had a great time! It was a well put together movie, good storylines and good art. I would rec it to people even if they haven't been keeping up with the shrekverse (goodness knows I haven't been)

Craving: Oh hm, I am pretty content at the moment. But I am always down for some sushi. Mmmm...sushi.

Oh man. I wouldn't be able to pick five, I've written a lot.

So, uh-- five of several favorites from ST:TOS alone?

On the Nature of Wind - 1.) It's novel length. 2.) It's the first one I ever wrote in this fandom. 3.) It kicked off the whole series. 4.) It involves high seas piracy ffs. 5.) It seems very apt that it was the first time I wrote my protagonist as the same age I was at the time, because it was Scotty. 6.) Did I mention the high seas piracy? 7.) It's where Corry walked on for good, and I didn't even realize it at the time. LOL!

Bookends - 1.) Scotty's not easy to write introspection for, though as he gets older, he gets better at it. But this was definitely one of the deeper earlier ones. 2.) I loved showing how comfortably he was settling into South Bristol and how much quiet good it was doing for him that he was only starting to understand. 3.) I loved showing those heavier facets to his and Cor's relationship; it's the first time Scotty thinks the word 'brother' in relation to the man who is, in fact, pretty much already his big brother. 4.) The atmosphere. I can fucking taste this fic. 5.) Scotty demonstrating that he has, actually, learned some things in the interim by stating that his relationship with Cor had to be give-and-take or not at all; that he was claiming responsibility for his half of that brotherhood. There's a lot that goes into all that, but I loved that moment.

Home - 1.) It's a very warm, short piece. 2.) Like, the whole thing is about family. 3.) I love the last bit of dialogue between them; the narrative, too.

Forty-Eight - I hesitate to add this one because it's the hardest story I've ever written about the most complicated character I've ever written and it's not finished yet. But it also has some of the most raw, honest stuff I've ever written in it.

Fireflies of Scotland - It's not posted on AO3 yet, but. If I had to pick just one story in the whole Arc of the Wolf to be my favorite, it would be this one. (But I can't pick just one because I love them all.) On the surface, it's a story of a summer's evening of absolutely nothing much happening between the guys. Scotty tells Cor how he ended up catching a mouse on a boat he was repairing, Corry mother-hens him just a bit, they end up on the porch talking and drinking tea. But oh god, it's got so fucking much going on. Because of the conversation they have there. Because of how they say what they say. Because of how fucking much they love one another and how that sings out in every single word of what they say and don't need to say. And because it has one of the best endings I've ever written, I think.

favourite fandom you joined this year

Bit of a cheat because it's a 'sub' fandom, but I'll say Andor (star wars). Avatar is right there, yes, but it doesn't have the oomph of Andor. Avatar has a ton of missing character development, and if the world were more approchable, I'd see myself doing a lot of fix its and missing scenes. Andor is difficult on the other hand because it's so perfect. Hard to feel like I have anything to add to the fandom. But it's the one show I've been rewatching to death and having so much respect for.

favourite fic of the year

I'll mention Fathers & Daughters, even though it's my own, because you have to goddamn love a fic to spend more than a year slaving over it. And I dooo, and yes I AM working on the final chapter still, soz lol

The hottest smut I've read was Boundaries by Spiced, and well, I did nag about it when we discussed the idea, and it's a gift, but that doesn't change the fact it's the best :3 Very happy with it. It's hot by my ace standards. Basically very mindfuck focused. Fandom is Andor!

And then for multi chapter, I'm going to mention this absolutely insane and amazing FE3H complete fic To Those Who Are Never Going Home by MadameHyde. It's set after the game in an Empire win, where a lot of the Blue Lions find themselves teaching at Garrech Mach. I didn't read the tags so some reveals blew my little brain out of the water, it was amazing. Super prose, very character driven, really enjoyed it.

favourite author of the year

@spicedrobot That one isn't too hard. I've read a LOT of their work this year, by vertue of doing a lot of beta swaps, and because they write some very delicious ships. They are responsible for 99% of my smut intake in 2022. Also I think it says a lot about an author that you can beta them every other day and never get tired of their unhinged content. They're just that good. (They are in a constant state of wrangling me over my terrible comma game, so they're also very patient and could have strangled me a long time ago, yet they didn't!)

favourite creator of the year

Very hard choice, especially when it's so broad and I've already struggled with the fanart one… But I'm going to go with :

@aromansoul. I just really love their art, and finding them through a shared Silco obsession was delightful. They have a very unique style, with colours that seem to float and come in and out of focus. You'll be staring at a super rendered area and it's perfect, and then you look elsewhere and realise half the drawing is just broad strokes… Absolutely tricks my mind, it's delightful. Also they have some fantastic unique designs of their own content that I think are dope.

favourite OC you met this year

Ah, finally an easy one! Meet Rain Drenched Mountain. He's @scuttlebuttin's Predator OC and he's very sweet. I love his design, his lore, and I think he has great taste. Very handsome lad and each time I see more art of him I feel like a little kid. I mean, Scuttlebuttin is a big favourite artist, and where they're not in a very very distressing blood-gore-clown period, I'm always thrilled to see what they post. Just check out their Odin fanart for the new God Of War, it's out of this world!!

Oh man, what a tumultuous time to contract Star Wars brainrot! After recovering from a major case of Arcane addiction, BoBF seemed like a good time after how much I had enjoyed The Mandalorian. Now I'm in this surreal situation where the past two weeks have been The Mandalorian Season 2.5 with enough cameos to make a fanfic author blush. To the credit of this week's episode though, I have FALLEN for Cad Bane and must do myself the justice of experiencing him properly in The Clone Wars!

My god I wrote you a super long, super detailed answer with tons of links and gifs and shit and then firefox just hiccuped and I lost everything, including my will to live.

Siiiigh.

Anyway, the short of it is: if you fell for Bane as he is in Bobf, looking like a putty model of an overly flossed fucked up child of the Mouth of Mordor and Nosferatu, then you're in big trouble, because his Clone Wars and Bad Batch appearances are SO fucking good.

King is not even the same character. Ahem, I mean, he actually has a personality in those, he's not a cameo. Since he's not one of the mainline villains, he's also allowed to succeed, making him one of the most efficient baddies in the series. He's a fun loving guy too, even if his definition of fun is to commit crimes and earn good credits... He's genuinely living his best life, smiles and laughs often, acts like a grumpy blue Clint Eastwood... I love him.

And wait until you meet Todo 360, his sassy little short king of a droid, totally not a buttler droid!

Anyway, this wasn't Bane... I refuse. I close my eyes. Where's his hat? Is the hat safe? Is the hat OK? You know, the large hat he literally kills someone for? Where's his toothpick? Where's his attitude? Why is he acting like he's some feather ruffled Pyke? Why is he walking out of the desert? Why is the most expensive bounty hunter in the galaxy being paid to intimidate a bunch of miners in a settlement that isn't even on planetary maps, on a shit-hole planet, where no one even recognises him? Why??

Well, once you're done getting in touch with your inner alien-lover, let me offer you these recs :

This fic by @ashcroft-writes is a Bane/Kenobi fic, but don't run away, it's actually a true galaxy brain pairing. The writing is fantastic, the smut is stellar, but the characterisation, the plot? The worldbuilding???

You come in for Bane smut and snaz, you stay for the incredible story. Like, this fic will cleanse your skin and water your crops. I can't stress this enough. It's something else. It has politics, banter, inner turmoil, action... Did I mention the smut?? Urghhm

This link goes to all 7 of my fics featuring Cad Bane. I had made you little summaries with hyperlinks in them for all of them, to explain better but... I don't have the energy to go over this again and risk getting shafted by the evil gods of technology once more.

In I'll make It Worth Your While (which you can read fandom blind) Cad adopts a kid. She features as an adult in a lot of later stories, either a side character (Cross Over My Heart, A Single Slice of Lemon Cake, and I'll Give You A Reward) or as a main PoV character (In Odd Company).

@spicedrobot also recently tripped and fell face first into the Cad Bane mania, and I totally didn't have my foot out. Very much looking forward to what arises from that tumble ( •̀ ω •́ )✧
