Here's to the autistics who are "way too aggressive". Here's to the autistics who get angry easily. Here's to the autistics who are impulsive. Here's to the autistics who have destructive meltdowns. Here's to the autistics who's anger ruins friendships/relationships. Here's to the autistics who can't control their emotions. Here's to the autistics who are bitter and mad. I see you, I love you (platonically), and I hope you have a great day.

I need non autistic people to realise meltdowns are a real debilitating thing that has a serious effect on your mental and physical health NOWWWWW!!! The way its been trivialized and lessened pisses me the fuck off. It's not a tantrum and it doesn't come from "being too weak-willed" it's painful and it's embarrassing AND MOST OF ALL IT'S INVOLUNTARY!! Don't claim to be an ally to autistic or disabled people and then make fun of people who have meltdowns. Literally get the hell out of my sight

Here's a comic I made a few years ago, explaining autistic meltdowns and shutdowns in detail! They can be pretty different to what you might expect- I didnt even realise I was experiencing them for years. I thought they were panic attacks that just happened to last much longer than an average person's, or that I was very sensitive- newsflash, it was actually autism lol

People always talk about how childhood autistic traits can be troubling and problematic for people (especially allistic parents) but how about ways childhood autistic traits can be helpful and convenient for parents? I’m putting some examples below from my childhood.
- my need for routines was helpful to my mom and made her life easier
- my ability to hyperfocus on interests and solitary activities allowed my parents to attend to my sister
- my preference for being with adults who were more predictable made me easier to handle
- I had a very strong internal sense of right and wrong that made me easy to reason with as long as I was given a reasonable explanation
- my difficulty expressing my emotions and internalizing them instead made me seem low maintenance
- compared to my sister who is very reactive my atypical responses weren’t noticeable
- because I was so independent I was easy to leave alone and overlook
- because my traits weren’t disruptive to my parents I was just seen as ‘mature,’ ‘smart,’ and ‘an old soul.’
- even though I was only social when people interacted on my terms I didn’t avoid people so I wasn’t seen as antisocial
- I talked so much that if I had a day I was struggling no one noticed because they were just used to me being chatty
- I had a decent early childhood before things got really challenging so my meltdowns weren’t bad or often at that age
- by the time I was at an age where those things would stand out I was more prone to disassociation and then having a meltdown when I was alone so they didn’t know
If anyone has any childhood autistic traits that were convenient to their parents and overlooked because of it please let me know in the comments! ⬇️

Autistic meltdowns aren't synonymous with temper tantrums, by the way.

I've seen a lot of level one autistics say things like "Have an urge to run? Hell yeah! Elope, bitch! Freedom!". This frustrates me, so I want to talk about elopement, and what it actually is and feels like for me.
I am someone who elopes when in severe distress. It isnt that I want freedom, or even that I want to leave. Its that my body takes control of me, and I involuntarily run anywhere I can to get out. I've run out of my house before, I've run into the middle of the street, etc. It isnt fun. It isnt freeing. It's scary, it's dangerous, and it feels like I am being controlled by my own body because I have no say in it. It just happens, and suddenly I am sprinting out my front door.
I've also seen level one autistics be upset with parents for having those "child leashes" on their autistic kids, saying how they "arent dogs". I think more people need to understand that these are SAFETY TOOLS and are often times NECESSARY for people who elope frequently. Stop shaming parents for having these leash backpacks.

Did I ever post this anyways I Hate tumblr formatting sometimes did you know that
ID: A pencil drawing of John Dory and Floyd from Trolls. Floyd looks nervous and says "You know, if you are having sensory overload you can tell me, right? I won't be offended!". John is facing away from them, looking at a scrapbook and says "Uh sensory overload? Like a meltdown? I don't have meltdowns." Floyd looks unamused and says "Last night you told me, quote, not to look at you, because it made you agitated" John says "That's- an exaggeration." Floyd says "It isn't." John turns to face Floyd, closing the book and says "Ok so sometimes I don't like people looking at me! Not a meltdown! I'm too old for that." Floyd looks confused. Floyd crosses their arms and says "Uh huh ok. So why do you always wear goggles again?" John puts the book under his arm and says "Uh, eye protection? Oh plus I focus better when I can only see one color! It's calming." Floyd says "So in other words you use sensory deprivation to keep yourself from getting overwhelmed." Floyd puts his hands out and says "And being overwhelmed leads too? Come on you know the answer!" They usher John. John winces, with a sharp inhale and says "A meltdown." Offscreen Floyd says "Yes." End ID.
