Yet the vampire has found a little ray of sunshine that warms him up inside and gives him shelter. He met a stranger who cares. For him. A stranger that brought a sad wizard to heal him, and who smiles often, and no matter how long the vampire waits, the smile doesn’t morph into anything else. It’s there to stay.

anyway! about your ask. i mean it's just true? first of all because it's a generational thing - he was born in the 30s roughly, chivalry and whatnot was still kind of a big thing. he was raised to be a gentleman and he probably learnt to express affection in the old fashioned courtship way, and besides, being autistic, he probably launched into those very easy, very set in stone rules of expressing affection to make it easier for him. and THEN he was raised by magnus, so. yeah it's a thing

so like rapha is the guy who brings chocolate and flowers, takes ppl to fancy restaurants and whatnot. granted his actual love language is also one of like, familiarity and taking ppl to small family owned restaurants, cooking for them, etc., but he also can put on a suit and take his partners somewhere fancy. besides, as someone who doesn't like kissing in the lips, he is a fan of hand kissing to express affection because it's like the least sexualized kiss ever, and it's just nice. and to him that's all it is but damn if his partners aren't swooning. especially simon. simon is Swooning. maia is all soft smiles and a cheek kiss in return, which makes him smile too, and meliorn treats it as somewhat natural because they don't have time to keep up with mundane customs and if it was a thing in the 18th century it probably still is now, one less thing to worry about. but they like it

always a good one! honestly i like the idea that maia already knew by the time they started dating, because i headcanon that they were already very close friends and almost family by the time they started dating, you know. but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some nice, heartwarming ace coming out

a few options:

raphael telling her for the first time, when they’re just friends: it kind of comes up one day and raphael says it casually, because he just trusts maia, you know. maybe when he was talking about ragnor and mentions that he really helped raphael understand himself as ace. or maybe they’re talking about izzy and raphael mentions that despite everything, it was nice that she was so open to him being asexual, especially considering how very much not she is. and then he just freezes because oh no, he has no idea what maia thinks about this. of course he knows she isn’t cishet but even within the queer community, he can’t exactly tell anyone. but maia is just like “oh, that’s great”, and when she sees the way he’s looking at her like a deer caught in headlights, she smiles and touches his arm, all like “hey, relax. what kind of friend would i be if i had a problem with that? it’s okay, and i’ll always love and respect you”. and raphael just smiles, says “thank you” and goes back to drying some cups, feeling so warm inside, relieved that it wasn’t a big deal but he still got that reassurance

raphael bringing it up again after they start to date: so this time it’s different because it’s one thing for maia to be okay with him being ace when it doesn’t really have anything to do with her, but it’s different when it kinda does. but maiaphael are communication monarchs so basically as soon as they decide that they’re dating now raphael is like “but you do remember... about me and sex, right?” almost as if offering her a last chance out, and she smiles and is like “yes, raphael. i don’t need that. i just want to be with you” and kisses him in the cheek and is all like “that okay?” and raphael says yes and very tentatively and obviously scaredly mentions that he isn’t really a fan of kisses in the mouth, but maia is just like “okay” and he’s like “yeah?” and she’s like “of course, cariño. we have been doing well without them before, why would we need them now?” and raphael kind of chokes up slightly and brings her in a hug and says “thank you” and she says “no need to thank me. i told you, remember? will always love and respect you” and he nods, lost for words

raphael brings it up for the first time when they’re already dating: ok so idk why but i think if that were the case it would take him a little longer to bring it up maybe. like it just never came up because it’s not like him and maia were having plenty of sex talk or something, so it was just like, whatever. and their relationship progresses very naturally so he kind of... forgets to bring it up? and then he’s super nervous because he has no idea what maia thinks of that, if that’s a dealbreaker, if she thinks this is about her, or about her body, or her being trans, or just that she’ll think it means he loves her less... the whole thing is just scary and nervewracking and he probably ends up talking to her about it before they even have their first official date... i don’t know why but i’m picturing that he shows up at her place at the crack of dawn o’clock and she’s all like “oh no who died” and he’s like “i just... want to talk to you” and he hovers at her door and they’re both kind of frozen until he goes “can i come in?” and she softens, “yes, raphael, of course you can come in” and he’s nervous and trying so hard not to like stim and fidget with his hands and he goes “i love you, but... i don’t like sex, and i need you to know this if we are really going to have a relationship. i know that i should have told you that sooner, but-” and she’s like, visibly relieved, like “oh my god don’t ever start a sentence with ‘i love you, but’ again, especially before we’ve even had our first date” and he’s all sheepish like “sorry” but she quickly grabs his hands and is sure to reassure him that it’s alright, that she doesn’t care, and he’s like “but you get that it means, like... never, i’m sorry but i just, i don’t like it, and-” and she’s like “i don’t want you to ever do anything you don’t want” and he breathes deeply like “okay. okay” and she kisses his forehead and tells him that it’s alright and he ends up staying at her place and they watch some movies or whatever and cuddle, and it’s great. more than great. perfect
