Hi I’m really late answering (I was busy and not checking my tumblr for awhile, sorry), but since the public is apparently clamouring to know what I meant by this stupid joke:

TL; DR: There’s this theme in the mythology that when Set was born to Nut it maybe didn't really count as birth, and there's this one pyramid texts spell that seems like a list of four gods and their mothers, except instead of having Set and Nut or any other goddess, it has Set and "the two reconciled gods," which is an epithet referring to Horus and Set after they forgive each other. And maybe that suggests that although the moment when Set was born to Nut did not count as his birth, the time when he and Horus reconciled did.

Longer and more detailed answer (content warning for a brief description of an extremely traumatic pregnancy):

So according to Plutarch (who was this ancient Greek philosopher guy who wrote down a bunch of things the Egyptians told him about Isis) the Egyptians believed that when the five children of Nut were born, Set was not born in the normal way, but instead, on the day of his birth, punched a hole through Nut's body from inside the womb and then jumped out of it.

In Seth: God of Confusion (which is like this foundational book for studies of Set) te Velde talks about this story a bit and he argues that it's an expression of Set being a disturbance to creation, that Set wasn't meant to be born at this time and him punching his way into the world anyway messes up the natural order of things and brings chaos into the world.

Te Velde even says that, because of how it happened, Set's birth might mot even count as a real birth and he may not even count as Nut's son. He points out that in the curse texts against Set Nut is one of the gods who curses and attacks him. Although, the premise of those texts is entirely about cursing and banishing Set, so I feel like someone could make an objection to his argument there that the relationship between Set and Nut i being portrayed as particularly negative because of the context, I've seen similar objections to arguments made about the relationship between Set and Nephthys based on those texts.

(BTW to explain his thing about Set's birth not counting, te Velde uses this quote from the philosopher Sartre said about the birth of Set, which basically goes "he is not the son of that woman, he is vomit" which is so mean and funny that I can't not mention it.)

Te Velde tries to argue that certain passages in the pyramid texts using the word iwr to describe Set's birth instead of msi indicate that the Egyptians already believed this about Set in pyramid times, but I'm not sure how much I buy that. There is this other pyramid texts spell that I find really interesting in relation to this though:

So, the Pyramid texts were these spells written on the inside of some of the pyramids to help the dead kings reach the afterlife (which in the pyramid texts is in the sky, not the underworld). They invoke a lot of different gods to help the king, and the journey the king takes to the afterlife is very similar to being born; the underworld and the horizon which the king has to pass through are called the womb and birth canal of Nut.

One of these spells, which the king is supposed to use when he's in the horizon (AKA the birth canal of Nut) has the king invoke some gods who are in the sky (Horus, Set, and also a reed from the field of reeds). And then the spell says this about them:

Unis (the dead king) has looked at you like Horus looks at Isis, Unis has looked at you like Nehebkau looks at Selket, Unis has looked at you like Sobek looks at Neith, Unis has looked at you like Set looks at the two reconciled gods.

(This translation here is from JP Allen's translation of the pyramid texts which is really recent and you can find online for free, this spell is Unis's spell 213 in that book. Allen translates Nehebkau's name literally though, so he calls him "Ka-Assigner" instead.)

So, this seems to be a list of gods and their mothers. Isis is the mother of Horus, Neith is the mother of Sobek, and I remember reading somewhere that Selket might be the mother of Nehebkau in the Pyramid texts, although this is the only pyramid texts passage I know of where Selket and Nehebkau appear together at all, so that conclusion may just have been based on the fact that this appears to be a list of mothers. But, since the pyramid texts are about helping the pharaoh pass through the womb and birth canal of Nut, it makes sense that a spell might compare the gods who help the king with this to mothers who delivered their sons.

(The connection could be something else though. Pyramid texts spells are often difficult to interpret and a lot of the study of Egyptian religion is just arguing about the meaning of obscure passages like this).

EXCEPT. You may have noticed that one of these things is not like the others, and in this list Set is not with Nut, or any other goddess, but with "the two reconciled gods," an epithet which refers Horus and Set after they make peace with each other. (Allen translates it as "two reconciled gods" but I think the more literal meaning might be "two complete hearts" or "the two who are mended of heart?")

So, if the connection between all these pairs is meant to be birth, like, delivering someone into the world, then the spells seems to suggest that, by reconciling, Horus and Set gave birth to Set in some way. And the fact that the spell uses their names instead of Nut's could probably be used to support te Velde's argument that Nut doesn't really count as Set's mother.

I don't think te Velde ever talked about this spell, which is kind of disappointing because I think it could have been much better evidence for this story existing at an earlier time, and for something being up with the relationship between Set and Nut, since the context here isn't built entirely around dissing Set. Also, if Set's birth being improper indicates he is a disturbance and out of place in the natural order of things, then the reconciliation giving birth to him could mean the result of their conflict is finding a way for Set's chaotic nature to work within creation instead of being against it. (You could maybe also see that in the Contendings of Horus and Set, where at the end of the story they don't kill Set, Ra claims him as his son and gives him a place in the sun barque.) At this point this is just me speculating though, I've never seen anyone else say this.

Oh also in a different part of the pyramid texts Horus's falcon form is called “large-breasted” (wer-mendjef). So uh. Cased closed your honour he's definitely a MILF. Actually I think it's supposed to be about how falcons all look like they have massive pecs but I still wanted to bring it up here. Because it's funny.

Pretty generic question but does your player and the toys accompanying them ever have any moments where there’s nothing crazy going on in the factory and they have a moment to relax? Do they try to talk things out with the others during this time? Or is it just a moment of silence and taking in the peace of the quiet factory?

Oof, it's AU ramble time again. Also another question mix!! Hope you don't mind @an-eggs-quest & @tallahatchet (sorry for the tag sjkdfhskfhd).

Back in Safe Haven, they had tons of quiet moments, compared to what Raph would've have while descending deeper and deeper in the factory, which was... pretty much equal to zero.

The guy took to heart what Doey told him about "catching his breath". He would want to sit around the kids, maybe manage to cheer them up a bit and get them to laugh somehow. He'd also get curious about the drawings on the wall and would want to add his little contribution. Poor guy needs to feed his artistic brain a bit lmao. I like to think the critters would be intrigued and watch, maybe some of them would even join him. And maybe they'd make a drawing all together. It distracts everyone for a little while.

Raph tried taking things easy. As much as feasibly possible in their situation. It brought him a sense of normalcy he realized he terribly needed. And for a little while, he felt like genuinely smiling again.

After the Safe Haven incident, breaks are less frequent. The whole gang is tense from 1. everything that's already happened 2. the loss of their friends and 3. knowing they're being tracked down by Huggy and (presumably) the Prototype.

But when they find a remotely quiet and well-hidden spot, they let themselves relax. Catch some sleep. Even if just for a bit. They need the energy after all.

... Catnap usually keeps a sleepy eye on everyone. As for Raph...

... Let's... not talk about sleep. For reasons. (Bonus rambles in the tags !)

What does Victim use the keyframes for?

He's got a bunch of them, and they seem to always be there in scenes where he's working.

He's got two cabinets full of them (the second is behind the monitor) and there's two even sitting on his desk.

And yet...what does he use them for???

With the other tools, it's kinda obvious what they do: the paintbrush paints, the eraser erases, and shape tools make shapes. The magnifying glass probably just functions like a normal magnifying glass.

But the keyframes? They're unique in that they're not technically animation tools, from the toolbar. They aren't tools for creating things on the canvas of Flash, they're for animating. You make a new keyframe to draw the next frame of the animation, to progress the movement. Like the next page of a flipbook. Keyframes are how animations are animated.

And I just cannot see how that function would transfer into their world. How that would be in any way useful.

But clearly they ARE useful, since Vic took them, and he clearly USES them, somehow. Just...How?

She’d go over every detail of the physical traits of the bitch you cheated on her with and tries to match it. What did you even see in them? they’re nothing compared to her!

Can we please talk about how much Eloise and Cressida parallel Polin in Season 3? I feel like that doesn't get talked about enough.

Like even in the scene in Episode 4 when the Bridgertons arrive at the library, the camera focuses on Colin noticing Penelope at the same time Eloise notices Cressida and goes to her.

Oh my goodness YES! especially interesting given this season’s trope is friends to lovers.

Also I’ve noticed we have eloise giving cressida tips on how to woo debling, and the “call out” scenes (Cressida calling out eloise and penelope calling out colin).

Also I don’t know if this was an intentional choice but it’s neat how we have eloise going from “i’d rather die” (than be friends with cressida) in s2 to whatever they have going on, and for colin going from “i would never dream of courting penelope featherington” to the carriage scene. Many thoughts.

I truly hope we get the cressida/eloise dynamic explored more and the writers don’t just discard it to make it easier for eloise and pen to make up (although i hope eloise and pen do reconcile because i adore them both)
