story time! i met the cr cast this past weekend at mcm london and they were the kindest people imaginable, but my interaction with laura and marisha was just. incomprehensibly sweet and the best thing to ever happen to me.

first up was laura. my friends izzy (@wvearp) and abby (@overnighttosunflowers) went before me in the queue and they got my art signed by her. when they did, she said “oh, best art” and they told her that they were here with the artist. she immediately was like “what?! where?!” and started looking around frantically. i was standing just to the side and i waved awkwardly and she was like “NO WAY! YOU!! i favourite this shit on twitter ALL THE TIME!” which i find hilarious because yeah, i freak out a little every time she does.

when it got to my turn, i said hello and asked her how she was doing. she did not answer my question and instead said “cole, are you kidding me? these are gorgeous” about the two prints i handed to her. (the one pictured and a different one i got signed.) she said she remembers seeing this after the episode aired and i was like “yeah, it airs at 3am here so i drew this in a frantic, sleep deprived stupor at 7am” and she said “you did it so fast, i remember! i sent it to marisha! people are SO QUICK with the fanart, you guys are insane.”

after she signed the print, she held onto it for a moment and just sat and admired it, before looking at me with the BIGGEST smile and saying “you are seriously the best. thank you.” and i don’t know how to handle sincerity so i handed her the dice i got for her. she was so excited about them and immediately rolled the d20 and got a 10 (edit: i misremembered, she got a 3 lol). i then asked if we could play rollies and she beat me. i got a 5 and laura got a 7. i said i’m sorry they’re not rolling well and she was like “it’s fine, they just need charging up!”

i also got a selfie too, but the guy helping her at the table took the photo for us instead of me trying to take it because i suck at taking selfies. she gave me a really tight side hug and when it was done, she thanked me again with the biggest smile.

i also didnt realize until afterwards but instead of writing a character quote, laura wrote “you are everything” on my autograph 😭

next was the group photo op. as we walked up i said hi again to laura and she immediately recognized me from before. she grabbed onto my shoulders and literally spun me around to marisha and was frantically saying “marisha marisha, this is the person that does the amazing imodna art!” but there was a lot going on and marisha was looking at me with the most bewildered expression, until she eventually understood what laura was saying but we had to rush to take the photo. laura held onto my arm and marisha leaned against me and i didn’t realize until afterwards but liam and tal also had their hands on my shoulders lol. it was A Lot. i told marisha i would probably be heading to her autograph queue next so i’d see her there and she was like “awesome, i cant wait!”

so after that, i met marisha. i was probably the most nervous to meet her because she’s just so cool and intimidating but in reality she is just so warm and has such a calming presence about her. she was like “cole, good to see you again!” and i handed her the same imodna print that i had laura sign. she said “ohh, aww this is amazing! this is what laura was talking about, i was so confused!”

then we talked a bit about the live show because her voice was hoarse and i asked her how she was feeling. she said it was just her voice that was gone, but we agreed that it was absolutely worth it because the live show was incredible. i also congratulated her on the how do you wanna do this, then gave her the dice i got for her and we played rollies too. we both got an 18 at first and when we rerolled, she beat me with another 18 to my 16. then she was like “oh these roll really well, i’m definitely gonna use these!”

we took our photo together and afterwards she said “thank you for your art and everything. seriously, you’re so talented” while rubbing my shoulder, and then i headed off to join ashley’s queue.

i’m probably gonna make a separate post about meeting ashley and sam. i just wanted to write this down mostly to immortalize on my blog. i expected them to be kind but i did NOT expect to feel so loved and appreciated. laura was about as excited as i was, and made me feel so special. (this is also a pretty small thing but i dont think i pass very well, so the fact that laura said ‘person’ and didn’t misgender me meant a hell of a lot too.)

i did bring extra prints to give to them as a gift but was overwhelmed and forgot lol

anyway, that’s it! for anyone wondering if the critical role cast are as kind in person as they seem online, they absolutely are and then some. i’ll never forget this past week.

About the Fab Four conference....

Things I realised as it unfolded.

1. Meghan going against script.

The conference was about one thing, but Meghan’s answers never addressed the point of the conference or the questions asked of her directly.

No matter the question put to her, she gave an answer to a different question not asked. 

If you edit that conference, you realise everyone else kept to script while her script was from a different conference with different questions and answers.

2. A huge Dig at Kate. She really, REALLY went out of her way to embarrass Kate. William looked angry for a moment before putting on his game face.

What was the dig?

You have to go back a week or two before the conference to the BAFTAs. The BAFTA academy asked all female attendees to wear black in support of #metoo and TimesUp. All the awards shows that season, starting with Golden Globes, had asked their female attendees to wear black.

Kate turned up in dark green dress with a black ribbon belt. 

Cue angry media op-eds back and forth on whether Kate supported the cause and whether it was too political a cause for royals and perhaps the black ribbon was the only concession to a political cause. 

Or she didn’t care at all. 

Either way everyone was angry that she didn’t put out a statement saying clearly that she supported #metoo and TimesUp.

Fast forward to this conference and Meghan is asked a question about the foundation, and she goes into word salad about #metoo and TimesUp even though it had nothing to do with Foundation or the conference. 

And the media wrote in glowing terms about Meghan’s answer while glossing over the fact that it was word salad that had nothing to do with why they were there. 

That answer immediately set up a Kate vs Meghan situation with Meghan thinking she’d got one over because the praising articles were framed as Meghan better than Kate for saying clearly that she supported #metoo and TimesUp.

But as always, Kate got the last laugh. Her dark green dress for the BAFTAs honored the suffragettes (i.e. women fighting for equality), which was especially poignant because 2018 was the centenary for the women’s suffrage movement in Britain. (I was in the UK in July 2018 and there were a ton of museum exhibitions and displays marking the centenary in a lot of places we went to.)

So even though Kate couldn’t wear black, she still showed her support for women’s equality and the women’s movements in her usual awesome, thoughtful way: by tying it to history. It went over the heads for a lot of people. It did in February 2018. It still does now. 

It was incredibly tone-deaf of Meghan to be rambling on about #metoo and #times up -- American-created movements for supporting women -- while Kate had gone to the lengths she did to show her support to British women’s movement. Meghan’s rambling about the causes was definitely a dig at Kate but it didn’t land because there was no truth to it. Not when articles like the one linked above were being written in response to the social media complaining.

Neige’s Unique Magic 🍎

Neige LeBlanche has been rotating around my brain I swear 🤣 I keep thinking about him after making a redesign, I want to redraw some scenes of Book 5 with my interpretation of him. But now I’m wondering what Neige’s Unique Magic is…

He *does* attend RSA after all, the top rival magic school to NRC. And despite how oblivious he can be haha, I’m sure he’s capable in using magic. But I’ve never been one to be particularly creative with magic systems -v-

Snow White was connected to…the wishing well, the Poison Apple, the Sleeping Death, the true love’s kiss, the Dwarves/mine/gemstones, animals, her singing, the Dark Forest, and the Magic Mirror.

Many of the things Snow White is connected to is brought back in Pomefiore. Vil has a “Fairest One of All,” a Unique Magic that can curse any object with conditions of his choosing. Epel has “Sleep Kiss,” putting the victim asleep in a coffin-like barrier made of glass. And Rook has “I See You/Arrow Afar,” allowing him to pinpoint and track his target. So about half the things that Snow White is connected to is already taken by the other characters 🧐

Additionally, I feel like Silver gets the fairytale stereotype of animals following him around haha, even leading them to assist him in battle in Book 7. Neige also seems to have genuinely worked hard to reach his level of singing/stage skill, so I don’t think his UM would be related to that either. Mirror-related magic may probably be reserved for a more important character/villain later in the main game too…Hm. Snow White’s wish does come true through the wishing well, but there’s also a relics of the wishing well at NRC, and wish related magic seems a bit too OP and out there haha.

So I’m thinking that Neige’s Unique Magic is related to the concept of True Love’s Kiss? Perhaps his Unique Magic would literally be called that too haha \(//∇//)\ That, or it’s something mostly unrelated to the film lmao. A lot of the TWST boys have creative liberties taken with their Unique Magics, while being very subtle references to their film, such as Leona’a “King’s Roar” or in cases like Deuce’s “Double Down/Bet The Limit” where it’s something completely new.

But I feel like it would be fitting for Neige to have that sort of “Fanservicey” and very fairytale-esque type of magic 🤣 True Love’s Kiss tends to be an inherently magical trope. Perhaps his touch or kiss (probably on the cheek or forehead?) can heal in some manner or remove something that has affected the target Σ(-᷅_-᷄๑) Basically being the healer of the group

True Love’s Kiss is also often used in stories to return someone back to their true form, like the Little Mermaid, the Frog Prince fairytale, Beauty and the Beast, etc. Perhaps Neige’s Unique Magic can “transform” someone back to their original state of being? I’m not sure, because since Overblots are a thing, that seems like something that could have too much power…perhaps True Love’s Kiss could be a protective “blessing”/charm of sorts, to prevent the target from having their form changed or being affected by magical poisons or curses for a certain period of time. Basically like a counter to UM’s like Vil’s.

Edit: @emyluwinter brought up an awesome idea in the comments! In Snow White, Snow kisses all the dwarves before they go to work in the mines as a kiss of good luck. So the idea was brought up that Neige’s magic could cast temporary luck/protection on the target. I also think of it as, perhaps in a battle, the user could be saved by a lucky miss, or get in a lucky hit at whoever they’re fighting. Or it could be overall increased protection for any situation. Emyluwinter also brought up that Neige could put a “timeout” on a victim who’s wounded, so I think of it as Neige slowing down magical poison/bad affects, or even slowing the damage of an injury temporarily until help comes.

Σ੧(❛□❛✿) I feel like I rambled without coming up with anything lmao! If anyone has an idea for Neige’s magic, I’d love to hear it! I think it’s really interesting he appeared in GloMas, so it makes me wonder if Neige will become more relevant after the first arc of TWST ends. If his Unique Magic could quite literally protect or help people, Neige’s selfless personality would make even sense, since UM’s tend to manifest from a person’s character, motives, and/or backstory. I’ll talk more about this in the future, but Neige’s backstory being very vague and kinda cut off in Book 6 makes me think TWST may return to it.

If it's not clear OP is Cody from Total Drama. I only heard back from my friend Sierra (she's competing in the new season she got on! Please support her when the season starts on cable) the other day as they won't let her use social media but she won a challenge letting her talk to us and omg she doesn't see how TOXIC OP/c*dy is. The cast vote people off and he votes for her EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. AND WHEN THEY'RE VOTED OFF THEY'RE THROWN OFF A PLANE 30,000 FEET HIGH IN THE AIR. AND SHE'S BEEN DOING SO MUCH FOR HIM AND SHE DOESN'T SEE HOW MEAN HE IS. So he WANTS HER TO FALL OUT OF A PLANE??? Also do you never sing in challenges because you're always on Reddit or something GET YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME!!!

Alright I’ve Finished Apollo Justice. And…. Whew… wow. That was a lot. I enjoyed that journey a lot. I thought we were going to see more of Klavier and Kristophs relationship. (Based on all the fanart I’ve seen. But I guess that was more insight through multiple peoples analyzing them? I don’t know. I just woke up and finished the last part of the epilogue.) this story certainly kept me invested. I kept on calling out “what is going on?” Not in a I don’t know what’s happening and I’m frustrated kind of way, but an “A lot is going on and I need to know the answer” kind of way.

(I have been watching Pixel Partners playing the game and they just informed me the original Ace Attorney was meant to stop at the first trilogy but because it did so well the original writer was pulled back to write this one, and I think he did an awesome job balancing what he wanted to do vs what CapCom wanted done. It was very interesting.)

Now I am starting Dual Trials. (That opening was…. Well, it certainly grasped your attention…) And we finally get to see Athena! I’m looking forward to seeing more of her. My interpretation of her before seeing her and her cool gadgets were that she was a bit of a clutz. As I thought this I witnessed her going up the steps and- op. Yep. I was correct, ah. XD

I’m excited to see more of these characters, but also a bit hesitant because it isn’t the same writer. I’m curious how this will play out as well as what the original creator thinks about it.

Also. Apollo…. What… what’s going on with your eye? Why do you look like you leapt out of another anime? Or coming out from a battle experience?

Edit: OH! Athena is the main protagonist of this game? Oh! That’s awesome!! :D
