#of all the awful devastating things I’ve seen people in Palestine share the thing that has haunted me the most for the last year has been#the pictures of babies covered in rashes and welts and other painful skin conditions#I just know how it feels as a mother when your baby is going through that#and the thought of being in that situation without access to clean water or treatment#is so heavy in my heart all the time#It’s on my mind all the time when I hold Iris or give her a bath#I just can’t imagine how desperate and awful it feels to see your baby like that and there being so little you can do for them#I’m grateful that I’ve been able to support people out there in the ways I have but I cannot shake those images#I don’t think I ever will

my littlest cousin is very sick with some sort of upper respiratory for like the 20th time in his very short little life. 😢 it's so hard not to mentally backseat parent in a situation like this. at least his mom is always quick with the doctor's visits, that makes me feel better at least.
#it's hard not to judge#not that i ever say anything because what use would it do#but she's a nurse who doesn't mask at work#and he's been in daycare since he was like 3 months old#he had rsv before his eyes had the light of awareness in them#she is doing a good job with him in many ways! he's vaccinated and he gets all sorts of boosters and she's got tricks & tips for everything#like his eyes used to cross a lot when he was a newborn and she would hold her hand over his eyes for like 10 seconds to unstick em#and she was putting breastmilk in his baths to help his skin#and using barrier cream to prevent diaper rash like i honestly don't know that he has ever in his life had diaper rash#idk what to think. i don't have a baby specifically because of situations like this.#he needs to stop being around tons of other children during a pandemic#he also needs socialisation and his parents need to earn money to keep him alive#like. the fuck are you supposed to do.#i guess everyone's just gonna be sick all the time now. especially babies with no immune systems. and that's that.#adam yaps

There is a solid chance that pH balanced cleansers give me eczema :-(
#i have delicate baby skin and residue from not properly rinsing my arms is giving me my eczema rashes#and ive avoided by eczema rashes for s good 5 years now aside from the ocasional sweat dyshydrosis#but this cleanser that is otherwise perfectly inoffensive is giving me a rash on my wrist and very upper chest#aka the two places i get little bits of cleanser and might fail to properly rinse off 🤡#my best guess is this cleanser is more acidic than my skin while im VERY used to alkaline cleansers#so when rinsed off properly its either not bothering me or is very minimally sensitizing#but when left on.. the acid makes my eczema scream#if it were an ingredient or formula problem the skin on my face wouldnt he so buttery soft snd healing so nicely

now I'm curious about the health of the meowtuals. like obviously medical history is personal information that nobody needs to share. but I wonder what allergies / intolerances you guys have :O
personally, I'm mildly allergic to cats (even though I love them), and I have sensitive skin due to eczema! sensitive skin means that if I use the wrong product, my skin hurts/gets itchy, n I break out in a rash. generally irritants are added colours/scents (includes essential oils and other "natural" products :/), which is rlly annoying, cause it means I can't use any pretty looking or smelling soaps ;;
#when I was a baby my mum used to warn daycares abt not using scented wetwipes#only to get calls in the middle of the day from workers freaking out cause we broke out in a rash#anyway nivea and pams (NZ generic brand) my beloved. nivea's dry skin cream has saved me so much frustration from sunburns over the years#one time we only had some other brand's sunburn soothing stuff#but it very clearly had added scents and colours#and when I tried to use it it hurt really badly :D

AHAHA. No. No... I was never just imagining it.#the blood tests don't lieee - my body just lies to my immune system#anxiety isn't giving me hives the constant hives make my ANXIOUS DERP#I've had sensitive “skin” since baby and always having mild irritation from any metallic or adhesive#why did it take developing deadly food allergies with associated proteins found in like everything for me to realize Huh! I am not a loon#or a coward because of the way I let avoidance take over#so much is uncomfortable in a medically relevant way#and after having a long span of life without the itchy and yuckiness it finally clicked that Oh Boy this sudden onset of rash/breathing stuf#isn't normal and I wasn't just being mental and nervous.... outside things Were antagonizing me#it's just a really hammy metaphor that it technically is my own body causing the trouble#still. but not my mind! HAHA. but fuck. this is actually worse

Love the start of summer because I start going outside and then it's just like oohh is that bump a bug bite, a mild reaction to something, or am I about to be transported to hell for 2 weeks

because the family is currently without a tent, baby formula, and struggling to survive constant bombing in khan yunis, they have to dip into their evacuation fund to survive. despite crossing that threshold, their survival is not guaranteed.
their newborn baby salem has anemia, is immunocompromised, and is severely malnourished because his mother manal is so starved she no longer produces breastmilk. his 5 year old sister salma has a fever, skin rashes, and intestinal problems from drinking unclean water. staying alive during all this costs money.
they even have to pay rent for the dirt their tent sits upon.
