Based on a little joke idea I made about @ugly-bug-starscream’s and @edd-drawsyo’s Sky Loving The Stars AU. The original idea was Back To The Future with the Aerial bots but I wanted to draw that ending scene with young Skyfire and Starscream!

i know it’s like years old at this point but i love that one collab mumbo and grian did with tommyinnit bc it’s like the single most concentrated example i’ve seen of mumbo’s Chaos Nullification Powers

you get to see a bit of it on hermitcraft, mostly via his interactions with grian, but until seeing that collab it didn’t really hit me just how completely mumbo can no-sell other people’s attempts to control a situation. tommyinnit is possibly the single shoutiest, most chaotic minecraft youtuber out there, and in most videos i’ve seen he pretty much overwhelms everyone else and sets the tone for interactions because of this. but mumbo just. doesn’t let him. no matter how much tommy escalates in intensity, mumbo reacts with *exactly* the same energy he always does. grian largely comes across in the whole video as annoyed and reluctant to engage with the whole thing, but mumbo’s not even affected. he just rolls with anything he finds funny and basically ignores anything he disapproves of, only seeming more and more unflappable the harder anyone tries to get a rise out of him.

AND imo, this is the key to my favorite interpretation of him as a character

see, when the people around him are being more reasonable/calm, i think mumbo often comes across as anxious and a bit easily overwhelmed. the thing is, his nervous wet cat vibes do not scale. he has one setting. his responses to the last life ‘ah-ha!’ jokes and to hermitcraft 8 starting to crumble to pieces under a falling moon are almost identical.

mumbo jumbo is inexorably and eternally Just Some Guy, but that gets stranger and stranger the weirder his surroundings become. the giggly incredulousness that makes him an easy target for goofy puns looks Very different when it’s also his reaction to the impending end of the world.

Dark Secret

So! Danny was discovered pretty quickly after his first battle against the Lunch Lady. His hair turned white, and his body shape was a little different, but he largely looked very similar to his Human Form, so it was only a matter of time really.

Thankfully he was assumed to be a Metahuman.

He didn't look like any other Ghost, the closest resemblance was his hair and eye color, but even that could be explained away. Also his parents were adamant that he couldn't be a Ghost because he was still Sentient and not Evil, so he must just have powers that just looked similar to Ghost Powers esthetically. Probably as a result of the Portal Accident, which he used as an explanation for how his powers awakened.

Danny also avoided using the more obvious Ghost Powers like Intangiblity and Invisiblity, sticking mostly to the most basic Flight and Energy based Powers he got to be as generic as possible. If anybody saw otherwise, it was a trick of the light or a trick of the Ghosts.

Danny became the Hero of Amity Park, always pretending to be something else. It was his darkest secret.

Unfortunately because the public never saw a Ghost like Phantom on a positive light, their perception of Ghosts never changed. Nobody believed that Ghosts could be anything aside from Evil, and as the knowledge of Ghosts and the Ghost Zone began to spread around the world that perception became more and more commonplace.

If Danny had been revealed in the early days, it could have been salvageable, but nowadays if his secret was revealed he would have to convince the entire world that everything they knew about Ghosts was wrong. It would practically be impossible.

Even when he joined the Justice League when he became an Adult, he still had to hide his secret. Years of hiding made sure he could conceal his true Nature from the magic users on the team, but he still had to be distant from the team just to be sure.

While all this was going on in the Living Realm, his adventures in the Ghost Zone still happened as normal. He saved Pandora and the Acropolis, dethroned the Tyrant King Aragon, managed to defeat Pariah Dark in Single combat, and even became recognized as a Great Warrior by the Far Frozen.

After years of hiding, he actually felt more at home in the Ghost Zone than in the Human Realm. There he could be his true self without having to hide a huge part of his identity, and people accepted him for who he was. Sure he had enemies there, but he also had more real friends outside of Tucker and Sam.

He was content with his double life, acting as a Hero to the Public while hiding his true self, and secretly going to the Ghost Zone to be himself among his friends and even his enemies.

Of course it all came crashing down when he Anti Ecto Acts finally passed.

Now there was a Legal Path for Humans to enter and profit off of the Ghost Zone. Beyond just being able to legally kill and experiment on Ghosts, the Acts also allowed Humans to claim parts of the Ghost Zone as their own Property, enslaving the Ghosts residing there, and destroying the Ecosystem of the Zone because there were no laws preventing it.

And now Danny had a choice.

He could either side with the Humans to which he was a Hero, allowing them to destroy the Ghost Zone and Enslave the denizens living there with the full support of the Government, or he could side with the Ghost Zone, betraying Humanity and the people he had been protecting for years, but trying to save those who had accepted him for his true self years ago.

To him the answer was obvious.

I've been doing one a year since the 2022 presidential election*, so. you know! keeping up with the thematic tradition. sometimes politicians compare themselves to caesar crossing the rubicon and you just gotta. process that. do an annual re read of a bunch of different literature that use the ides as their stage. go through commentary on dante's divine comedy. watch a production of julius caesar. for unrelated reasons, ofc.

it's also funny how people will debate whether or not the optimates/conspirators/whatever were ungrateful assholes in my inbox whenever I post one of these, like the ides of march hasn't been a well established narrative that people have been using to explore other stuff for centuries. take it to an academic conference! we have empire and autocracy and absolutely batshit press conferences to discuss!!

There’s a missing kid.

No. Not missing.

A misplaced kid. A lost kid. An out-of-sight kid. Or some other hippy nonsense bullshit Pierce brought back from that deescalation workshop in Chicago.

Missing involve imagines of kidnapping and never seeing your kid again. So they’re anything but missing until they are. It’s bullshit, but so is bringing your six year old to the traveling carnival and not keeping a hold of them if you weren’t planning on losing them.

That’s why his Sara is held in her mother’s arms and why Hopper would like this not-missing kid found so he could get back to his daughter.

He’s not even on duty.

Hopper continues his tromp through the overgrown grass on the outskirts of the festival where the carnies half-hazardous dumped unused equipment when - “Mr. Hopper!”

He turns his head to see Steve running up to him and holding out his arm where a green wristband is located, “I’m allowed to be here.”

Steve falls into step next to him and asks, “Can you ride the Ferris Wheel with me? They won’t let me ride it again without a grown up.”

Hopper didn’t answer, looking behind a wooden cutout of a clown with an ice cream cone. Steve didn’t seem to mind, rambling on about how they don’t like if you stand up at the top of the Ferris Wheel until Hopper sees a kid.

“Hey,” He calls, marching towards them. “Your mom is looking for you, k - Munson. Of course.”

Of course it’s Eddie Munson’s big brown eyes looking up at him. Of course it’s Eddie Munson hovering over an anthill with caramel from a candy apple all over his arm.

He’s covered in ants.

“You can’t do that,” a new voice pipes up before Hopper can ask what fresh hell this is. He looks over at a little girl with big overalls and bandaids on her elbows. “Ants can bite you, and sometimes they sting people. Sometimes they sting and bite people so much that they die - the person, not the ant.”

“They’re not biting me,” Eddie says, tilting his head at his ant covered hand. “Maybe they trust me. Maybe I’m one of them and I’ll get ant powers. I’ll become an Ant Man.”

“Ant-Man doesn’t have ant powers,” Steve scoffs. “He just gets really small and really big. Ants can’t get really big. He’s called that cause he can shrink to the size of an ant, but he can get smaller so why does that matter? I guess ‘cause he can talk to ants but that’s dumb.”

“I can talk to ants.”

“They can’t understand you!”

Eddie grins like he’s about to get on Hopper’s goddamn nerves so he cuts in, “Hey, children! There’s a kid missing and all of you need to get back to your parents. Munson, Steve, random gi- who are you?”

The girl points at herself and then says, “Robin Buckley.”

“Rob- Robin Buckley? You’re the missing kid.”

“Oh?” She says. “I’m not missing, I’m right here.”
