yesss!!

i started pretty late. i had been begging my parents since i was about 4 years old to start gymnastics and they didn't put me in for two reasons

they were convinced i was not an athlete. i could barely run, and my brother started running before he could walk. they put me in 7 different sports before gymnastics, and i didn't excel in any of them. they didn't want to put me in a sport they didn't understand, because they wouldn't be able to coach me (precisely why i wanted to start gymnastics in the first place lol)

gymnastics is expensive and they couldn't afford to put me in something they didn't think I'd be good at

so i taught myself 😋

they finally enrolled me in power tumbling when i was nine years old which is super late, but i already knew how to do a backwalkover so i was thrown into intermediate immediately. after about 5 months i could do a backhandspring

obviously I'm "technically" a power tumbler, though i went to a camp last summer to learn bars, beam, and vault. unfortunately i had sprained both of my ankles at the same time about 3 weeks before, so it really hurt to do my more advanced skills

because i was put in tumbling and not gymnastics, I won't be doing D1. i was scouted by D1 power tumbling schools, but none of the academics were good, and i really wanted to do gymnastics

so i joined my school's club! it's not super impressive lol but I'm excited because i finally get to compete (my current gym doesn't do competitions) and i get to learn apparatus like I've always wanted!

it's a little frustrating because i watch collegiate gymnastics tournaments, and the stuff they're doing on floor? i can do that. but i never had the chance to do apparatus, so I'm behind. i definitely tried, tho!

of course I'm going to mourn what could've been - if my mom had let my dad take that big city job before i was born, instead of staying in a small town where the only gymnastics within a 2 hour drive is non competitive power tumbling. if i had started when i wanted. if covid hadn't hit during my prime scouting years. but alas. life goes on

I'm so excited that i get to continue, and I'm also going to school with plans of becoming a gymnastics coach!! so that's super cool 😎

My sister asked me to come play a game with her and her friends since they’ve been meaning to do a game night for forever and more games are playable with four people than three, but given that they are all ex-gymnasts, they have spent the entire time thus far seeing if they can still do things like backwalkovers and I have been knitting
