Part 3
Feisty Coffee Girl
Izzie and I had gone to the bathroom in the gas station since we needed some groceries and the nearest grocery store was an hour away. Holding a hand over my stomach my sister ripped open the package of pregnancy tests we had just bought. “Here it should show up in five minutes after you take it.”
“I can’t be pregnant right. Mom would be furious if I were.” I gulped nervously taking the test out of her hands going into one of the stalls.
Izzie leaned her body against the wall waiting for me. “We will worry about mom after you take the test. Right now just keep calm and do the test so we’ll have an answer.”
“Okay I’m gonna do it now.” I answered her back peeing on the stick and just sitting on the toilet until the time was up. Opening my eyes I blinked through tears so emotional about what was down in front of me.
Izzie knocked on the stall door gaining my attention. “Y/n, what does it say?”
“It uh ... .it's positive.” I croaked through tears with my sister kicking open the door since I hadn’t locked it. She helps me up to my feet getting my pants up seeing me begin uncontrollably sobbing.
She wrapped her arms around my shaking body and I cling onto her for some strength. “Shhh I’m here for you. We will get through this.”
“You really think that?” I asked her.
Izzie broke the embrace holding me by my shoulders sniffing through some tears. “You and I are extremely tough and we will get through this.”
“What do you think it's going to be? Boy or girl?” Moving my hands down to my stomach I sniffed through my own tears. Closing my eyes I paused just thinking about the choice I had to make. I could get rid of it or keep it and become a teenage mother so young.
Izzie clicked her tongue with a light smile. “I'd say girl. She'll be just as badass as you are.”
“I might hope it's a girl someday too.” I gave her a weak smile. Running one of my hands over my stomach would change everything the second the baby's father said he didn’t want to be a teen parent so I ended up on my own. “I've always liked the name Everly. I'll probably name her that.”
“Everly will be an adorable name.’ My twin sister grinned hugging me again and we just held one another.
My phone had been ringing the entire time I was driving home from work. It had been almost over two weeks since I had gotten the random guy's number. Driving towards the elementary school I was on my way to pick up my daughter from school. Caroline was only able to take her during the mornings. Pulling the car to a stop in a spot I entered the school going to her classroom. “Seriously, how many times are you going to call me.” Taking out my phone I ignored the call.
“Mommy!” Lifting my head up I saw my daughter running straight to me. Her hair getting thrown in every direction until she flung herself into my waiting arms.
Wrapping my arms around her I laughed into her hair dropping myself onto my knees. “I've missed you. I miss you all the time you're not with me.”
“Can we go get pizza?” Everly asked me when we broke the embrace.
Brushing hair out of her face I chuckled. “Sure we can. Oh one second it's your aunt Izzie….hey Izzie what's up?”
“Would you be able to come to the hospital? I am stuck here for the rest of the day and I have some gossip I really need to tell you about.” She explained through the phone.
Holding the phone up to my ear with one hand I take Everly’s with my other leading her out to the car. “Izzie I don't know if that's a good idea. I have Everly with me and we want some dinner.”
“Meredith is sleeping with one of the residents in the hospital. I think that's enough of a reason to hear the whole story.” My sister declared.
Sitting my phone in the cup holder I helped Eve get into the backseat of the car getting into my driver's seat switching the phone to speaker making our way home. “Izzie, I love you. I want to spend time with you too. But it is not a good idea to bring her to the hospital.”
“I want to see aunt Izzie.” Everly said from the backseat of the car.
Izzie heard her and kept convincing me. “See, she wants to come see me. It will be fine. I can even add on that there's pizza down in the cafeteria. So please come visit me tonight.”
“Fine Isobel Stevens. We will come to the hospital. Just do your best to not get my daughter sick because then I'll have to take care of her for two weeks.” I caved running my freehand turning the steering wheel changing in the direction of the hospital. Hanging up my phone I hoped that this would just be a good visit and the next time we could hang out at my apartment or at Meredith's house that she was living in with some of her fellow interns.
Everly was already undoing her seatbelt to get out of the car by the time I had parked us outside the hospital. Leading her inside by the hand we found my sister standing at the nurse desk with her three other friends who were Alex, Christina and George. “Aunt Izzie!” Everly removed her hand away from mine jumping up into her waiting arms.
“Oh there's my favorite little niece.” Izzie twirled her around laughing until she sat her down on her feet.
Alex came around the nurse station with a smirk on his face getting close to me. “So you’re her sister huh. I gotta say you might be hotter than Izzie is.”
“Uh…Hey Eve, I think I heard somebody say they have pizza in the cafeteria. Why don’t you go wait over there for a second and then we can go get something to eat.” Bending my knees to be her level I put my hands on my knees to be eye level with her.
Everly grinned skipping over to one of the empty waiting room seats. “Deal. Be quick, mommy.”
“Okay so what gossip were you dying to tell me that we couldn’t do at home?” I focused my attention on my twin sister with her standing in front of me.
She throws her hands up beginning to ramble off with such bright and bubbly excitement that she naturally showed off to her friends and her patients at the hospital. “The doctor that I told you Meredith slept with is the head of brain surgery and is named Derek Shepherd. But he failed to mention that he was married and then his ex wife came to work here. And now for some reason the guy who also cheated on his wife is now in the hospital in that room.”
George leaned his head to the side, getting our group's attention to focus on the open room where a guy was stitching up his own face even though Meredith was standing in front of him. “Why is he suturing his own face?”
Cristina replied. “To turn me on.”
Alex explained where I parted my mouth opened hearing he was clearly impressed. “Cause he's Mark Sloan. He's like the go-to plastic surgeon on the East Coast.”
George gasped in shock. “That's the guy Addison was sleeping with?”
“Who’s Addison?” I raised a brow at the name.
Izzie filled me in. “You can't really blame her, can you? So basically it goes like this. McDreamy is apparently been best friend up until Mark slept with Addison who was McDreamy's wife till he found them sleeping together.”
“Oh wow.” I didn't know what to say about all their crazy gossip.
Cristina said back. “No, not really.”
George gagged. “Yes you can.”
Meredith finally came around the corner entering our conversation. “McSexy wants an x-ray to check for fractures and I think it's a bad idea if I take him.”
George stammered. “Why? Why?”
Alex bolted towards the opposite direction. “I'm on it.”
George asked. “Why is it a bad idea?”
Cristina quoted. “McSexy?”
Izzie responded and Meredith made a disgusted face. “McYummy.”
Meredith and Cristina said in unison. “No.”
Meredith finally spoke up again with another nickname. “McSteamy.”
Cristina awed in agreement. “Oh there it is.”
Izzie glanced down at me. “Yep. What do you think about the nickname Y/n?”
George gagged running away the second the door open and I turned my head in the direction. “Uh, just ah choking back some McVomit.”
“I don’t see what the big fuss about him is - holy shit!” I felt my mouth hang open when a guy with dark brown hair came out wearing a black tea shirt and gray pants.
Everly spoke up. “Shit?”
“You can’t say that. Only mommy says that.” Whipping my head around I warned my daughter with a finger before putting my attention to the guy in front of our group. “I….I’ve met him.”
Christina, Meredith, Izzie and George gasped all looking over at me. “How?”
“Don’t I know you from somewhere…Feisty Blonde?” The guy that looked exactly like Mark made his way over to us. His green eyes landed only on mine and they remained there with him putting almost no gap between us. “What are you doing here, Y/n?”
Running my fingers through my hair I chuckled nervously feeling my face turn red with the interns watching our interaction. “I guess I’m meeting you for the second time, Mark Sloan.”

Black Coffee, I'm Your Coffee Gal // Railey
When they met Rose had probably made the worst cup of coffee this side of the pond. She might have forgotten for a moment but had been thinking about it since they hung out after Tara's birthday party. She made her a pretty decent cup of tea, at least it tasted great when she was drunk and clearing her mouth of sick. At any rate, she wanted to make it up to her, pay it back, and spend some time with someone who felt safe right now. The list had been drastically cut right now... for the time being. She would usually put on a little something saucey to go out with the girlies, but she couldn't be bothered. Baggy ripped light blue jeans with a loose tshirt half tucked in, a basball hat even. She was waiting at the edge of the Quad for Bailey to meet her and head to the Café to lunch and touch on summer reading, maybe. @murdermysterandmakeup

just saw the post about Rusty Nail and I like that we know where you get your naming style from now :) unless you also named rusty?
no, my parents just name their dogs after cocktails and didn't seem to realize how unhinged 'Rusty Nail' sounds. like they couldn't understand why I was cracking up

🦇 It Happened One Summer Book Review 🦇
❓ #QOTD What's your go-to summer read?❓ 🦇 Hollywood's It-Girl Piper Bellinger is the paparazzi's beloved wild child. There's always the promise she'll go a bit too far for the Gram, including hosting a rooftop party that lands her in jail after a bad breakup. Hoping she'll learn some sense of responsibility, her wealthy step-father ships her off to her late father's dive bar in the small town of Westport. She's not there for five minutes before she meets grumpy sea captain Brendan, and the two instantly clash. Will Piper reconnect with her past (charting a course for a new future in the process) or can she get back to LA before the end of her three-month sentence?
💜 Despite how much my beloved Booksta girlies adore her writing, I honestly didn't know what to expect from Tessa Bailey (and I'm glad, because I love shaping my own opinions). From chapter one, there's this instantly familiar yet distinct voice that SCREAMS chick-flick rom-com (with Kesha playing at full volume in the background). Piper is Alexis from Schitt's Creek meets Elle Woods ala Legally Blonde. She's vibrant and bubbly and yes, a little ditzy, but after a few chapters, you start to love her for the heart behind it. Brendan is all salt water and deep grumbles, strong yet stuck in his ways. My latest concern with rom-coms lately has been a lack of chemistry. Too many books rush to the smut, forcing two characters to fit when they just don't. Chemistry sparks off the page pretty quickly between these two, though--not in lingering glances, but in actions. Brendan has memory foam installed over a bunkbed so Piper can stop bruising herself. He changes her locks because everyone in Westport has a key to her building. It's not insta-love (but once things progress, these two burn HOT), and I'm grateful for that.
💜 It's the underlying messages that bumped this up to a rare 3.5 stars. People have been putting Piper into a box for too long, telling her she's just like every other girl in LA, that she won't amount to more. Brendan shows her she has so much more to give than she realizes. We start adoring Piper through Brendan, and that's a powerful thing. Meanwhile, Piper recognizes her worth and accomplishes far more than she thought herself capable. There's an underlying theme of guilt and grief from both sides, too; Piper for her late father, and Brendan for his late wife. They heal together and end up stronger for it.
💙 It's the third act that made my star rating falter. Piper clinging to pieces of her past, that lingering what-if of falling back into her comfort zone and old ways--Brendan shouldn't have faulted her for that, turning it into a blowout fight when Piper admitted EARLIER that she didn't know what to do. After that, it's a number of conveniently placed obstacles that keep them apart. Piper's sudden decision to go back to LA felt out of place given her character development, too. Though it wasn't a full third-act breakup, it was enough to feel exhausting.

4 - What I Want
Tumblr media
Part 5
Feisty Coffee Girl
Izzie and I were walking in the grocery store getting some stuff that I needed for after I gave birth. I was almost five months pregnant. She pushed the shopping cart with me resting my hand on my belly. “So we need to get baby food, diapers, uh baby clothes.”
“Iz, I don’t really want to talk about this for a little bit.” I shake my head feeling tired about talking about this for months. She had put the baby up for adoption and began helping me get ready for when mine came.
She halted the cart on its tracks whipping her head back around at me. “Y/n, you have to prepare for when the baby comes. There’s a lot that goes into this.”
“Izzie, it’s not that I don’t know that. I’d just like some time to not talk about all this baby stuff.” I turned to face her.
My sister nodded, slumping her shoulders. “So what do you want to talk about instead?”
“Anything. You in medical school or your love life.” I throw my hands away from my sides.
Izzie sighed, clicking her tongue in thought before she answered my question. “I don’t have time to see anyone. Getting into medical school was extremely hard and expensive.”
“Urgh Isabol. You’re supposed to be the entertainment in my life.” I groaned, running my hands through my hair.
I hadn’t been able to do much since I had decided to keep the tiny baby growing inside of me. I wasn’t regretting my decision. I just wished that I could still have the life that I had fantasized growing up. “I’m sorry, sis. Look at it this way if I have something small or big to say you’ll be the first person I tell.”
“Deal, Iz.” I held up my pinky.
She looped hers with mine. “So what do you want from life exactly besides being there for your daughter?”
“I want love. Not some cheesy romance. I want something that is epic.” I sent her a grin and she matched my same type of expression.
Propping open the door to the coffee shop with my foot I led Eve inside by one hand. Closing the doors door behind us with my other hand. She didn't have school since it was a Saturday so I decided to take her to work with me instead of Caroline babysitting her. “Okay so what's the rule when you come to work with mommy?”
“Don't touch unless you say so and don't go with strangers.” Everly responded with me scooping her up and sitting her behind a chair at the cash register with me.
Moving into the back room I began typing the laces of my work aperen before the alarm flashed in the back room telling us we had someone at the register. Moving out of the back I came around the corner seeing a familiar face of a particular surgeon. “Dr. Sloan, are you following me or something?”
“I could be if you’d like to hear that.” He sent me a smirk waiting for me to come to the cash register.
Tucking hair behind my ear I noticed that Everly was over eyeing the desert and food case so he couldn’t tell she was with me. “Uh I guess you could. So what can I get for you today?”
“A bone dry cappuccino just like last time.” He answered my question.
I smiled, snapping my fingers at the doctor. “Consider it done, doc.” Spinning on my feet I disappeared to the back preparing the drink and mixing it all up in a coffee cup. Pressuring the lid down I carried it back to him.
“Thanks, my feisty coffee girl.” Mark takes the cup from my hand.
Shifting my gaze over his shoulder I watched Everly playing around at one of the tables by the window. She was using it as her own personal playground. “Will that be all?” I asked him softly.
“Sad I’m not bugging you with a more difficult order hmm?” Mark teased me by lowering the cup from his lips after taking a drink.
I snorted out a laugh. “Do you think I would enjoy you bugging me all the time.”
“Don’t know. Maybe you wouldn’t or maybe you would. I’m just in it for the adventure of our bet.” He shrugs his shoulders.
I bent my head down smiling at what he said. We had shared a few more dates and some drinks. Learning some things about the other yet he still didn’t know the biggest part of my life. I wanted to tell him but I was afraid that he wouldn’t want anything to do with me once he knew. “Ow! Mommy.”
“Eve - uh are you okay kid?” I quickly corrected myself before I let certain words slip out of my mouth.
Everly was sitting on the ground holding her left ankle when Mark turned towards her seeing she was hurt in some way. “Looks like she twisted her ankle to me.”
“Mommy.” Eve whined when I lowered myself down on my knees burying her face into my shoulder.
Whispering in her ear I rose to my feet holding her in my arms. “Sssh baby. You’ll be okay…we should get her to the hospital. I’ll call her mom and tell her what happened.”
“I thought she just called you mommy.” Mark pointed out.
Luckily I was quick on my feet. “Oh yeah. Me and her mom look alike sometimes so her little head gets confused.”
“Right. The hospital is just a short walk from here. I’ll take you guys there.” Mark offers holding open the door for me and we walked down the street after I grabbed my things and clocked out for lunch early to not get in trouble with my boss.
He let me go inside the front door first and I came into contact with a bunch of doctors in white coats moving around in such a quick fashion. “Excuse me, ma’am. Could you please take a look at her ankle?”
“Oh sure. Stevens check on my other patients for me.” A black woman who was shorter than me called, waving my sister over and sitting a stack of carts in her arms.
My twin nodded, sparing a glance between me and Mark before leaving. “Of course, dr. Bailey.”
“Tell me when her mom shows up. I’ll come check on you afterwards. Got to start my job.” Mark waved to me, beginning to walk away with him raising his cup up in the air. “Great service as always.”
“Wait, you didn’t pay for that.” It had hit me that I never fully finished his whole order after my daughter fell and hurt herself with my motherly instincts kicking in.
He chuckled with that charming smile. “I’ll make it up to you later!”
“How so?” I called back knowing Dr. Bailey was waiting behind me to check out my daughter’s ankle yet he was distracting me with his statement.
The man nicknamed McSteamy disappeared around the corner with nothing more to say, leaving me completely in awe. “You’ll just have to wait and see.”
Dr Bailey led me down one hallway having a room available for us. I halted briefly when someone else in one of the rooms we passed spoke out to me. “What’s wrong with your kid there?”
“Excuse me?” I paused, raising a brow at a guy with dark brown hair and eyes. He also had a nice smile even if it was a small one seeing a child hurt.
The stranger shifted in his bed asking me after he introduced himself. “I’ll start. I have a heart condition and my name is Denny Duquette.”
“Ah it’s nice to meet you, Denny. I’m hoping that she just has a sprained ankle.” I answered his question with a kind smile.
Denny nodded, tilting his head. “And what’s your name?”
“Y/n Stevens and this is my daughter Everly. Hopefully I’ll see you around outside of this place.” I finished our conversation meeting up with the doctor enjoying the conversation with him. Yet my mind wonders back to the fear I had years ago. Izzie and Everly were the only things constant in my life.
I barked stomping up to him, shoving him aggressively. "What happened to I love you, I'll always be there for you, you can trust me huh?"
“The baby can’t be mine.” Grady, my current boyfriend and father of my baby, was freaking out pacing in my family’s kitchen.
Running a hand down my face frustrated. “I gave you my virginity. You’re the only person I’ve ever been with, dumbass!”
He grunts hitting the countertop behind him. "I'm sorry but you could get an abortion if you don't it-"
"I would never do something like that. I absolutely want kids - I mean not this soon. But I am not doing that just because you don't want to change your life plans!" I cut him off almost heartbroken that he would suggest that.
He shook his head at me trying to defend himself. "Y/n, that's not what I meant...I only meant if you did it you could get your life back.”
"You know what, Grady. Just leave. You are a ladies man and an asshole. I don't want to see you anymore." I pointed towards the front door shoving him out.
He bowed his head to his feet but left with one final word. "I can’t be a teenage dad. See you around." Once he shut the door I started crying. Stomping around the kitchen I picked up one of my school books throwing it across the room, never expecting that this would happen.
“Y/n….I have to tell you. I’m…I’m pregnant too.” Lifting my head up I saw my twin sister standing in the doorway hearing the whole conversation, holding a pregnancy test in her hands. From that day on the only person I know would always be there was my sister Izzie.
