6 and 11 for ghosts asking game!
6 - What is your favourite moment from each series?
This is probably all subject to change because there’s so many moments that I absolutely love. I have other favourites that I could include but if I did that this would be far too long.
Series 1 - Probably Pats death scene, I know it’s not exactly a nice scene to watch but I just adore the way it’s done, particularly when he falls against the front of the bus, idk it plays with my brain chemistry in ways I can’t explain. Jim’s acting in that scene is just incredible.
Series 2 - The scene right at the start of episode 1 when Alison goes round the house doing her little morning routine. I just love looking at what each ghost does and I love all their little interactions.
Series 3 - The whole camping thing in Woodworm men is just lovely. We get Patcap and we get the cute little ghosts holiday vibe. I just love all of it.
Series 4 - Mary’s death episode (again quite morbid I need to stop picking death related favourite scenes) I love seeing how they all deal with grief, we really get a range of methods and they all suit the characters. If I had to pick a particular moment I’d go with Cap and Julian’s ‘very manly’ arm touch.
Series 5 - Probably achy breaky heart just because it’s hilarious but also the whole build up with Pat and the Captain having their moment and the Thomas hug it’s all just so lovely (minus the heart wrenching interval of death).
11 - What is your favourite thing about the show in general?
Found family.
I am found family obsessed and I adore the dynamics between all the characters in this show.
Also the fandom, I’ve been in so many fandoms over the years and this is genuinely the most lovely fandom I’ve been in. Particularly because I’ve only actually been in it since the end of October last year. So thank you <3

The fact that Captain played the Fairy Godmother is all I needed to see and didn't even knew I needed.

Poor Havers.
Obviously poor Cap as well because he died
But fml poor Havers.
Being wounded after the war, having seen the horrors of the front line, then seeing Cap again realising that he isn't supposed to be there and that he smuggled himself in, Havers probably panicking because they are surrounded and every sign of affection is a high risk. And then someone confronts the man who is clearly trying to get to him and Cap collapses and basically tries to confess his love and Havers has to keep him from putting them both in danger but wants him to know that He reciprocates so he says he knows and stops him from touching his face but guides him to grab the swaggerstick so he can grab his hands. which is such a smart idea because of course a dying and scared man grabs at something and of course one has to provide comfort to loosen the grip. And then they say each others first named and the second Cap is dead he has to release his hand or else it would be suspicious. And he has to do this with a straight face.
I wonder when he finally was allowed to shed a tear, to mourn, to fall apart
I'm by now completely convinced that he went to the front to protect them both because Cap really wasn't that subtle
And Havers looked out for both of them even in Cap's final moments
It's just so tragic. Cap lost his life but Havers lost so so much as well
I really, really want to know what happened to him afterwards.

I am so happy with the conclusion of BBC Ghosts.
There were so many things I loved about the final series that I can't even keep it all straight in my brain, I'll have to rewatch it all (and the Christmas special, of course! Must remember it's the not the true end yet!)
But something I can immediately say I loved was what they didn't do. See, that line in the trailer that turned out to be from episode 5 - about there being a pattern to when they move on - worried me. One of the best things about the show, to me, is how there truly is not any reason at all to why the ghosts are there, or when they go. It's something the creators have said over and over, and that the show has always backed up; we saw so many times that, unlike in most ghost media, addressing unfinished business or achieving emotional resolution changes absolutely nothing. Pat hit some sort of emotional resolution three times. And Julian realised the importance of family, and Robin saved someone’s life, and Thomas discovered the truth of his death, and so on and so on. Finding closure isn't the end, and equally, the end isn't predicated by a climatic conclusion. It just happens. And the same is true for why people become ghosts. It just happens. And you exist, and fill your days, and then you’re gone. And no one knows why.
It's kind of the most agnostic television show I've ever seen.
I love that. Every other afterlife show I've ever seen has some kind of reward and punishment system. Or at least says that there's a reason for things, some kind of higher power at play, not necessarily a god but something like it. Even the American adaptation felt the need to bring Hell into it, which is why I need to specify that I'm only talking about the British version here. And I feel like a lot of fans wanted there to be reasons too, or felt like there simply had to be, that it wasn't even a question. I get why - it's not just because it's the standard for ghost narratives. It's really uncomfortable to think about the randomness of life and death. But Mary didn't go because of anything that happened before that day, and Cap was never going to go because he came out, and one day, when they've all gone, there won't have been a reason for it.
Because the real point of BBC Ghosts is that there is no point. You’ve just got to make it through the days, surrounded by people that irritate you, trapped in a confusing world where you’re mostly powerless. And it sucks, and you're angry, and sad, and bored as hell. And you also find happiness in the mundane chaos, and you get really good at chess, and watch the ants in the garden, and write bad poetry, and read terrible romance novels, and gamble money you don't have, and go camping, and play games, and learn French, and watch reality TV, and have sex with a decapitated Tudor nobleman’s body, and dance to old music, and look at the stars, and find that you actually really love all those annoying people after all, and that’s the point.

the fact that humphrey isn't considered by the others to be one of the core group is so fucked up. he's literally all alone for eternity and he can't even move around. they don't even remember to invite him to mary's funeral???? i'm gonna throw up

I’ve literally never recovered from this scene by the way
Tumblr media
Like. The way Cap holds on briefly to Havers’ finger, just for one last second of contact that’s so subtle that nobody would scrutinise Havers for it, but it’s needed desperately to convey so many unspoken things in the short time the Captain has left. But then Havers decides to take a risk - to break free of that subtlety by reaching for the Captain’s hand and resting his fingertips on top of it. To reciprocate those unspoken things loudly, for everyone to see. To thank him for every moment they shared together. To reassure his James that everything would be okay.
Tumblr media
AND THEN THIS!! Identical to how he held it before he died, squeezing his eyes shut and attempting to remember that fleeting moment of contact. It’s not much, but it’s all he has.
Every time he’s scared, or lonely, or just in need of reassurance that he’s doing the right thing, in a way his Anthony is always there. Permanently by his side, just as the Captain had always wanted.
GOD. They just break my heart.
