DUDE
Realization of the Day:
(⚠ huge manga spoilers for anime only below)
Yami is an actually pretty darn tragic character if you take five mins to think about it and take a good look at his history; I managed a quote based on this as a joke here, but he's indeed covered nearly every sad and tragic backstory trope in the book.
Let's see... he lost his mother who died from childbirth when he's 5-6 years old, and spent the better part of his childhood on pointless and intense training by his abusive, sexist, daughter-beater, war obsessed father; and then at the age of 13 said father forced a freaking drug on his baby sister and Yami had to witness the massacre of their clan by her hand before he took down his father for once and all to protect her before he stopped her and held the weight of all her crimes on his shoulders and left his hometown to never return again.
Then... he shipwrecked, barely surviving death, on an unwelcoming land and suffered from language barrier, culture shock, xenophobia and about every typical "Why Clover Kingdom is the Worst Kingdom in the World" key point, all lasted for two years until he turned 15 and recieved his grimoire, but prior and shortly after to it Yami was pretty much on his own with no one else to rely on or a home to return to.
The... things got better, no? He met the Faust Bros, he met Julius, he was offered a roof to sleep under and a chance to start fresh; 15 years lad who's already suffered a lot but ready to live and learn against all the odds with Nacht as his partner in crime and Morgen as his best friend... and then they both got screwed up years later when Yami, at the age of 18, wasn't around, so he only got to face the loss through a visit to the latter's grave while the former grieved his brother's death, and Yami never stopped smoking ever since.
It was right then and there when Yami decided, enough's enough, and promised to create a squad that became a home for the unlucky who shared some of Yami's experience in his past, be it the abusive family, lost of a beloved one, crippling loneliness, crime burdens, being unfit to the norms, and the list goes on. My favorite example is a threeway tie between Noelle, who is pretty much Ichika if Ichika didn't have an amazing brother, and Gauche, whose first meeting with Yami makes a hell lot of sense now that we know Yami also had a sister he threw his life for her sake, and finally Nero, who will never be able to return to her old life and is fairly content about it because she's too loyal to the person she loves to cry over homesickness.
Yami has been there, done that, experienced those, and is still going through some TraumaWorthyBullshit™ right now, and while he rarely shows negative signs of what he's been through, I like to think that he offers the Black Bulls what he always wanted to be offered.
That, by accepting them and letting them live however they want, but above all, by giving them a safe place to belong to.
Tumblr media
In short, the Black Bulls is Yami's way to deal with the bullshit that's his lifetime worth of trauma. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

Was thinking about this line because Harrow what the actual fuck are you talking about, and I realised something.
Not only does Harrow really for real not know that Gideon loves her—in the bullshit context of their lives, this is a reasonable misunderstanding for her to have.
What has Harrow known Gideon's life goals to be since they were children? Hint: There are at least two Harrow is fully aware of.
The first is to be wanted. As much as Gideon hates and wants to escape the Ninth, she also paradoxically craves their acceptance. They're the only community she's ever known. Harrow plays on that desire from the very beginning, mostly by kind of .... well, okay, by negging her about it. Ironically appealing to her sense of loyalty and duty to her house when they both know Gideon never even had that bridge to burn. That kind of thing.
Whether or not she's right, Harrow sincerely believes that acceptance to still be important to Gideon. First flower of my house, the greatest cavalier we have ever produced. You are our triumph. The best of all of us. When Harrow has only seconds left to make amends, she not only banks hard into praising Gideon, she frames it to unambiguously offer Gideon the acceptance she's always been conspicuously denied. Assuring her of her value not just as a person or as a cavalier, but as one of their house, one of their people.
The second thing Harrow knows is that Gideon wants to join the Cohort. Easy, everybody knows that. She's only been telling everyone with ears (and then some) since she was eight years old. It's the bait Harrow dangled to entice her into this mess. She wants to be a hero, to do great deeds like in the comic books. She wants to be a soldier.
Against the backdrop of all that context, Gideon's dying declaration "for the Ninth" starts to sound a hell of a lot more like "for Queen and country." Especially when you remember that Harrow is still the sovereign ruler of the Ninth. From Harrow's vantage point, Gideon could easily be playing the heroic underdog in a war movie. The soldier no one believed in until she threw herself on a grenade to save her squad. The knight errant who proved her chivalry by giving her life in service to her king.
From that perspective, Harrow's line to Ortus makes sense. She's following through on her promise of acceptance, defending Gideon's loyalty to the first Ninth face she sees. She's playing out Gideon's war hero fantasy, where Gideon's act of heroism proved them all wrong about her. In which case Ortus's response, "You are the most worthy heroes the Ninth House could muster. I truly believe that," flows very naturally as a reply. He understands what Harrow is trying to say, and affirms it.
It's not a hero's burial in the Anastasian, but it's the closest thing Harrow has the power to give her. And it's a fucking reasonable interpretation of Gideon's actions that doesn't touch on her feelings for Harrow at all. Fuck me.

LMAO YES
Op's tags: #if Yami recounts his early days in clover#the same way he tells it to Patry in that one cave#that means he leaves out any mention of Julius and the Fausts being kind to him#so imagine the bulls’ utter shock when they learn that Yami had friends before forming the squad#‘what do you mean you befriended two nobles years ago?!’#‘we thought you were totally alone until you formed the squad!’#‘I didn’t think it was important to bring them up’#and now I’m imagining Yami retiring at some point#and forgetting to tell his kids he was a magic knight#so they come kicking down his door demanding and explanation
The best thing about Yami as a character is the fact that he has secrets, not out of a desire to keep people in the dark or a sense of shame for his past.
But because he probably doesn’t think to let people know stuff about him.
The audience is consistently shown that Yami has connections to people and none of the Bulls are made remotely aware of it.
Lotus reveals he had an encounter with Yami and Luck’s response is to ask “you know the captain?” Not say “The captain’s mentioned a guy like you before.” Safe to say that Yami doesn’t even boast about his past battle victories.
Henry’s existence, despite the Bulls living in Henry’s house, is a surprise as the squad thought he was a ghost at first. It’s honestly silliest case since how does a group go 6-7 years without meeting their (essentially) landlord?
Zora’s status as a Bull comes as a shock to Asta, Noelle, and Luck at the gathering of the Royal Knights. And none of the Bulls recognized him at the exam so he never showed himself earlier and Yami likely didn’t talk about him even to describe his looks.
Nacht being vice captain, the fact that the squad had a vice captain at all to top it off, was a bombshell to Asta but also long standing members like Finral and Vanessa.
There’s also the fact that Yami has a sister back home which Asta was floored by. (Note that Yami outright lied about being born to fishermen but he just quietly omitted Ichika’s existence in his recounting of his life.)
The details of Yami’s history and relationships are a mystery to the whole squad. It’s not done maliciously by any means. Yami comes off as the type to think “they’ll find out eventually so no need to tell them now.” And leaves it up to fate whether or not anyone learns anything about his past.
Also, literally every time, those reveals happen at some wildly inconvenient times. It’s either in the middle of a fight or when everyone is stressing about an upcoming battle or after Yami’s been freaking kidnapped.

You have 90 minutes to complete. (original poem: r.a.)
In participation of the MCYT Recursive Exchange 2024 hosted by @mcytrecursive!
Inspired by know that all my love will be your breath (i will save you when your lights go out)
[text under cut]
1. Have you ever been in love? (Please circle your answer.) a. It's me and him b. Our hearts beat in sync c. Our lives intertwined
2. Do you understand what you’ve done? (Please circle your answer.) a. I couldn't do anything b. I lost my balance c. I doomed us both
3. It's been god knows how long since you felt phantom hands on your neck and there is no one in sight. If you were soul-bound to him and both of you died at the same time then why are you still waiting in the void? Please answer clearly, in full sentences. (Not a correct answer:I just wanted to see him one more time).
4. Define two (2): Fate | The feeling of his forehead against yours Curse | The moment you realise he isn't linked to you anymore
5. True or False: i. It was your fault. ii. You wish you had met him under different circumstances. iii. You can’t regret a single moment that you had him. iv. You would do it all over again if you could. v. It ended long before either of you said anything.

Why is this absolute crack style analysis is so so accurate 😂 ROFLMAO
OK I read the chapter and I finally realised why I can't Lucius seriously.
This man is giving eldest sibling syndrome, chuunibiyo and airfried energy so hard.
Like, all things considered, I don't think the majority of twitter really sets in that Lucius, even if he is the last baddie, is still the fuckhead that raised the Zogratis sibs.
This man is the reason Dante, Vanica and Zenon turned out like that and it SHOWS. (Under the cut cause I ain't making you read me dragging these 4 bitches to dirt)
Dante is the definition of narcissism, a man who thinks he's better than everyone but refuses to work for that title. He has the emotional intelligence of both a 50 year old boomer and a spoiled edgy 12 year old and it changes like a metronome. Even Lucifero dipped his ass. He's a misogynistic fuckwad with little to no mental development. This fucker absolutely copy pasted this shit from Lucius "I am The Chosen One" Zogratis.
Vanica. Look at her. This milf chasing trauma machine runs solely on the desire to fight because she's very much socially undeveloped and doesn't believe in familial love. Bitch couldn't understand why Acier wanted to protect her family and it took Noelle beating her ass halfway to death to even grasp the concept of friendship and it missed the shot so hard. Her healthiest relationship is with Megicula and that's an insult to Lucius' parenting methods.
Zenon. Zenon Gay Disaster Projection Zogratis. Where do I even begin with the most mentally incapacitated youngest child? This dude almost, ALMOST got out of the toxic family clutches and could have eloped with his childhood sweetheart Allen but Lucius (im pretty sure the dungeon incident was his fault, you can't tell me it aint) got so fuck ass mad over Allen "steering Zenon away from what he's supposed to be" that he sent out a hit on him to get Zenon to crawl back so traumatised he literally copy pasted the Lucius Manifesto into his head and went on a depression episode that lasted 15 years. Man self projected his self blame, flaws and everything he hated about himself onto Yuno because he saw the Parallels. Man sold his SOUL to Beelzebub for a cornchip victory that never came.
You telling me these three are the pinnacle of plotting? For all I can tell, Lucius sacrificed all of his sibling for whatever agenda he had and the minute something goes even a millimeter off the prophecy, he immediately tries to kill it instead of working around it.
Man is so hellbent on forcing his chosen one timeline he has no fucking long term planning skills. This man started a fight with Asta in front of two royals, a 500 year old sealing mage and all of whom know how to use Ultimate Magic. Mimosa is Literally the Senzu Bean of Black Clover. Noelle has killed MULTIPLE demons. Secre can banish Lucius' ass faster than he can ask what's going on. This is not the plan of the century, ESPECIALLY if he started this shit in the Royal Palace where MULTIPLE high ranking and strong mages reside.
You look at this man and tell me he ain't a deep fried chuuni who fell into a white supremacist reddit forum and got a 5 year plan that is a botched 20 year plan involving mass genocide. I don't believe it.
Man probably even made up Julius entire identity around his own self and then got shocked when said second soul then doesn't wanna listen to him.
I ain't even mad about Tabata making the 4th Zogratis Julius Sibling theory cannon now because the way it comes off, the only true way to stop the 3 Demonic Musketeers Of Apocalypse is to defeat their weirder, more unstable and bigoted eldest sibling who raised them into those disasters.
At this point, the only thing that could make this EVEN FUNNIER is if Lucius didn't account for the possibility of "eating a supreme devil's malice fueled heart immediately purifies them and reincarnates them as humans", which is to say Asta could be Astaroth's Unbothered, Moisturized, Happy, In My Lane, Focused, Flourishing Human Version and Asta simply talking is giving Lucius an aneurysm.

This is just a smaller observation that will hopefully someday be part of a larger analysis on Kabru's view of Laios & how Laios impacts him...
But I think it really interesting that Kabru surrenders something for Laios twice, and that these moments are inversions of each other.
The first time, Kabru gives up his life to maintain his control. He changes the course of the entire story with this action, and is willing to die to achieve that. Kabru is (supposedly) entrusting the future to Laios, but he is still very much the primary actor in the overall narrative. He is still the one choosing what the story should be.
Tumblr media
The second time, however, Kabru gives up his control to keep hold of something personal and selfish (in the way of dungeon meshi selfishness - it is a good thing to keep this desire. It small piece of what makes him a living creature). He steps aside to let Laios choose the way forward. He surrenders narrative agency for personal agency... not changing the story, but changing himself.

i don’t think we talk enough about declan being equally as down bad and ‘all or nothing’ with romance as ronan is. like yes ronan said he would start wars and burn cities for adam’s true smile, begged god for adam after he first saw him and fortuitously had all his objects of worship were in one downtown block etc but ronan had known adam atleast 18 months at this stage. whereas declan really risked it all to get tyrian purple overnight for a first date gift after ONE conversation…the man was discussing their marriage as a ‘when’ not an ‘if’ before we even saw them kiss like what’s his excuse lmaoo
#and I know he went all in bc he never could before and honestly this is the only accurate way to respond to Jordan’s presence#like your real king it’s ok I understand#and I know that there is a deeper character growth at play with their relationship development and I could get into the analysis of it#but on a surface level this is really funny to me#like Declan is scowling over Ronan telling Adam his secrets in cdth acting like Adam is a loose thread#but then proceeds to upend his life for Jordan after probably 2 week-2months of knowing her#I love men who love like this to be clear#at dinner someone makes a joke abt ronan being downbad for adam early on and declan is joining the teasing & jordan is like hm remember when#the person teasing ronan is either henesssy or adam himself#like ronan jokes about how gross and romantic bluesey is or soemthing when asked how their friends are doing#and adams like don’t let him fool you he made me a mixtape before we got together all teasing#and henessey is like pffft I saw some class A pining from this fucker#and right when Declan joins in Jordan is like lmao Declan you mentioned our wedding before we kissed don’t even try to tease your brother rn#and then Matthew starts asking questions that unintentionally embarrass both his brothers abt them being romantic#and Declan and Ronan are sitting there embarrassed and glaring at each other out of annoyance and also solidarity#but also they wouldn’t change a thing and are secretly proud that they love their partners so much#the urge to write jordeclan with background pynch fanfiction is returning#declan lynch#ronan lynch#the raven cycle#trc#tdt#the dreamer trilogy#adam parrish#jordan hennessy

INTERESTING and OUCH
So, for those of you who don't know, Charlotte is my (current) favourite character. She's been one of my favourites since I started the series, but now she's in the top spot. Which means it's her turn to get put through torment in fic. Hey, that's just the price you pay for being the favourite.
Anyway, as those of you who are familiar with my writing probably know, I like pulling characters apart and figuring out what makes them tick so I can depict them falling apart in a more believeable way. For some characters it's fairly easy to figure out what the core of their motivation is (Asta wants to be acknowledged as worth something even though he lacks magic) others it's far harder (I still don't know what the fuck motivates Yami). I thought Charlotte would be a tricky one, until I was rereading the manga and came across this panel. (specifically the middle one)
Tumblr media
(official VIZ media translation; volume 12, chapter 104, page 72)
She's just been cursed. We don't exactly how old she is in this scene (I tend to put her at twelve, for a couple of reasons, but that doesn't change the fact that canon hasn't actually given us an answer), or even why she's been cursed, but the fact remains that she has just been cursed. And yet she is the one reassuring her parents. She is telling them not to worry. She's the one telling them that she'll fix this. And she's just a kid! She is canonically just a kid!
Tumblr media
(Official VIZ media translation, volume 18, chapter 169, page 130)
This is the start of Charlotte shouldering every burden she comes across. She has to do everything herself and if she can't she's not good enough (I know it's anime-only but her "I should be executed" line over being possessed against her will raises a lot of red flags for me). She also holds everyone else to these impossible standards, rejecting every suitor she meets immediately. If they can't keep up, they aren't good enough, and nobody can keep up. She's pushing herself harder and harder and harder because if she doesn't, if she doesn't give everything she has to break this curse then she definitely won't, and the curse activating its going to be her fault for not trying hard enough. She canonically calls herself pathetic and apologises when it inevitably activates. She sees this as a personal failing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(official VIZ media translation, volume 12, chapter 104, pages 73 & 74)
Never mind the fact that she is, at most, twelve years old when cursed. Which means that she's lived a minimum of six years with it hanging over her head. Sure, she keeps saying she's going to break it, but there has to be a part of her who is convinced that, when she turns eighteen, she's basically going to die.
On top of that, the fact that she's cursed is caonically common knowledge. We get all the townspeople outside screaming about it. This implies that a lot of people know she's cursed. Know she's different. And, well, you're here on Tumblr. I'm sure you know what happens to people who are different. They get socially isolated. That would explain her trouble talking to people about her feelings. And her issues with expressing herself.
So, we've got this girl, who is no more than twelve, is suddenly being shunned by all her peers for something she can't control, has decided to shoulder the entire burden of this curse (everyone else we see talking about it in the flashback says "curse on House Roselei" or something to that effect, Charlotte says "my curse"), keeps pushing herself to try and do what, as far as we can tell from canon, is impossible, and is convinced that if she can't pull off the impossible she's going to basically die on her eigthteenth birthday.
Oh, and all of this is happening around the age she's supposed to be figuring herself out.
The fact that she is a fully functioning adult is a goddamn miracle.
Looping back to my original point though, I think that, at the core of her character, Charlotte is someone who wants to believe that she's worth saving. And not because of her power, or her family name, or her looks. She's desperate for someone to look and see her and see someone worth saving. But she's bad at expressing herself and also scared that if she lets anyone in close they're just going to let her down like everyone else she thought would save her when she was cursed did, so she snaps and she snarls and she drives people away because if people are going to leave anyway (because of the curse) then it's easier to drive them off first, because at least that way she can pretend it's what she wanted rather than being abandoned again.

I find the fact that the confrontation at the end of UTRH is often summarized as Jason asking Bruce to kill the Joker for him fascinating.
Because that's not what happened.
Jason holds a gun up to Joker's head, gives Bruce another, and tells him that if Bruce doesn't do something (shoot Jason), he will kill Joker.
Jason doesn't give the gun to Bruce so that he would shoot Joker. He isn't expecting Bruce to pull the trigger on the clown. He's asking Bruce to do nothing. To be inactive. Because that will still be a choice, and despite having done nothing, everybody clearly agrees that Bruce would still, at least in part, be responsible for Joker's death.
...And to me, this moment is a kind of- microcosm, of the rest of Jason's point. Because after being captured and carted off to Arkham, the villain will escape again, and will kill more people. The only way to truly prevent that from happening would be to kill them; Bruce refuses to do so, and I respect his right to choose such a thing for himself, but it is still a choice, and if we agree that Bruce's inaction during the confrontation would leave him at least partly responsible for the Joker's death, then we must also agree that his inaction in permanently preventing the Rogues from killing more people means he is also, partly, responsible for all of those deaths.

it is completely understandable to be uncomfortable with the sexual assault in dandadan. it's important to discuss how it's framed, whether it's handled poorly, or if it could be been portrayed better. but the number of people - even fans - stating that it is only fanservice, irrelevant, or could be removed is frankly bizarre to for SO many reasons, starting with the fact that this parallel exists.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the anime made it even more obvious by interpolating cuts from the first scene into the second one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i thought this scene showed that momo gaining her powers by believing in her relationship with her grandmother gives her the strength to fight back against what is basically a horrific, much more aggressive and abstract (maybe even absurd?) representation of her shitty gross ex - who was demanding she 'put out' and pay for the love hotel in very first scene.
Tumblr media
while the escalation from one scene to the next is surprising, it's not something that comes out of nowhere. this first scene is meant to be a set-up to what will happen later. it sets the tone, though significantly more lighthearted at this point. it tells you that sex, sexuality, etc. is something dandadan will touch on - though you don't know what the scope and depth will be until later in the chapter.
i cannot recommend this video enough, as it discusses some interesting interpretations of what the serpoians and turbo granny represent in their respective assault scenes, as well as how right now the treatment of both scenes is unfortunately uneven.
more notes about plot and thematic relevance below the cut. spoilers for anime-onlies (up to chapter 8, will probably be covered in episodes 4/5).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
momo was assaulted, and almost cut up by the serpoians, much like the other victims turbo granny appeared around. this is an intentional parallel. turbo granny goes to momo because that is what she does. again, SUPER unclear how that factors into turbo granny's assault of ken, but if we keep the video's interpretation of cynicism in mind, it could be related to that; maybe turbo granny has a cynicism toward men - similar to momo in chapter/episode 1 - and this is why she chose to attack ken. unfortunately, it's still too early to really understand and explain a lot of her motivations.
again, completely understandable to not like how the sexual assault was handled or portrayed, and it's important to keep discussing it. but this is what dandadan does for many different types of trauma and difficult life experiences. this is a huge part of dandadan's identity. if you don't like it, that is fine, but calling the sexual assault 'just fan service' is blatantly untrue.

Chapters 372 & 373 opinions and analysis
Hello everyone! I'm late to the party, but I promised and simply had to give my opinion on these Silvas chapters in addition to live comments which you can find here.
I'm blaming these on my coloring and an art related to this chapter.
Let me start with saying that these chapters were all I ever wanted and more from Black Clover.
If you follow me you realise that I focus on the Silva family a lot. I actually got into this fandom, because I started writing my fic Paper Hearts, which besides being a steamy and dramatic romance is a story of the Silvas redemption and focuses on Nozel, Nebra and Solid.
I wanted to dive deeper into their characters and show them as more than just assholes, give them some depth and this is exactly what Tabata did in these two chapters.
I'm proudly admitting that my headcanons for Nebra and Solid's reasons for hating Noelle were correct 😁
And on to specific opinions 😉 I'll go per character and at the end summarise them as a four
Noelle
Tumblr media
Simply seeing Noelle put up an amazing fight against Acier made me so happy.
"I'm not weak anymore."
Noelle had said long ago and she is correct. Our girl grew, literally spread her wings, broken her cage, threw out the keys I'm citing Song Queen of Kings by Alessandra which I associate with Noelle a lot.
She had shown us her growth and here a bit of inspiration from Asta with the not giving up trope.
Later we can see Noelle continue to care for her siblings during the fight.
The apology scene and Noelle's reaction I will go over below Nebra and Solid's.
Solid and Nebra
We see their povs which I love, finally getting to know what's going on in their heads.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here we see fear
Tumblr media
A painful realisation
Tumblr media
The truth
Finally giving them the courage to join in, to help Noelle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm proud of them. I'm so proud of them.
I knew they had it in them and I'm so happy I was right. Just seeing these panels made me want to cry happy tears.
More then that they want a FRESH START. To rebuild their family. Took you guys long enough (in PH this happens faster 😂) but you're finally here.
Tumblr media
🥹🥹🥹
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Solid and Nebra support Noelle with her powerful magic which is hard to control, something they would make bully her for earlier.
I think Tabata is showing us an amazing contrast, as a show of growth.
Nebra
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two panels finally give us her motivation for mistreating Noelle. Jealousy.
Once again I'm patting myself on the shoulder for having this headcanon.
I'm proud of her to finally admitting that, not only to Noelle but to herself.
Solid
Tumblr media
Solid once again jealousy, low confidence.
But he admitted it, admitted his weakness.
Nebra and Solid
Tumblr media
They apologised, finally.
Beautiful panel, of which I've seen many beautiful colorings and I might make my own version.
We're not in the Noelle tab, but I wanted to speak about her answer here.
Tumblr media
She's not saying "oh it's nothing," neither "yes I forgive you for everything," or "I hate you!"
Noelle simply accepts the fact. They apologised.
This shows so much of her maturity, the peace she made with her situation, life and growth. Noelle is somebody to look up to.
Nozel
Once Nozel was healed by our lovely Pablo and the best girl Kahono he managed to get back and join his siblings. One stubborn bird he is.
Tumblr media
This panel I want to focus on, because Nozel is finally GUIDING NOELLE. I wondered many times what would have happened if instead of pushing her away, guided by his guilt and emotional shackles he had guided her. During the fight with Megicula Nozel realised that they needed to grow stronger together. Now he is finally showing it.
Tumblr media
Nozel learnt trust.
Tumblr media
but also so much more by changing from his sophisticated ever changing style to pure defence, fighting hand in hand, which we had never seen him do before.
Also this quote right here is a perfect reference to when Acier asked Nozel to protect his siblings with her magic. Nozel remembers and uses his mother's words against her.
That's why later we're getting that epic panel with him saying "Isn't it right mother?"
Tumblr media
I decided to speak a bit about his armor design and the spell itself.
We're keeping in the Silver spells trope that Nozel has, which I love. We also already saw Nozel "strengthen" his body with mercury during the fight with Kivin, so there were some hints and excited people about Nozel possibly getting an armor as well. This is certainly a hot version, even though he looks a bit like the Silver Surfer (check out this amazing and slightly hilarious art).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nozel's armor hurts him.
I always head canoned that even though he had some immunity to his magic and with his amazing control he would protect himself, it still very much affected him, brought him pain.
I can talk a bit more about Mercury magic and it's symbolism but this might be for another post if you'd be interested. A short version I'd like to say how it's POISON, symbolising the mental poisoning of Nozel which has been happening since Acier's death.
Here it hurts him, but in a way as he says it will allow him to atone, which will help him rebuild. Clearing mental poison with physical poison.
Nozel had amazing character development and I can proudly say that he is my favorite Black Clover character, with his depth, complexity, resting bird face 😂 and all of the quirks which make him great.
Acier
Acier was strong and I'm glad they showed her this way. We got to see her amazing spells and how if she was to be fought one by one they would probably loose. Acier was one of the strongest and now amped with her paladin powers she needed to be great.
The fact that she got the water attribute didn't impress me, maybe it was to show how she's now like all of her children. At least to me it did not hit hard.
I loved how despite being changed, she continued to talk to her children, point things out. Remember this is not real Acier, more like a shadow of her but I'm glad she was still showing these sides, because Solid and Nebra could say their goodbyes as well.

This panel was everything.
Acier should be satisfied, hey that part of her which is still their loving mother is probably very happy that she used the "common enemy" trope to get them together. Jokes aside she is a great mother, who could see her children surpass her and be proud of them.
Her last words were EVERYTHING.
The siblings know they made their mother proud. They can put behind them the insecurities, everything which has been weighing the family down.
Acier's first death destroyed the family as she left the great legacy, to which none of them felt good enough to live up to.
Acier's second "death" brought her children together.

I brought these ending panels together to show you how similar they are. Notice how the siblings are standing at specific spots.
They were finally brought together.
"But you've finally become a family, haven't you?"
Yes and this is the takeaway from these chapters.
Each one of them grew, showed what they were made off and made a step to rebuild, to be a family. I'm proud of them.
Tabata-sensei I'm extremely grateful that you gave my most precious characters the ending they deserved, that you came up with their story and their development. It took time, but it was so worth the wait and I'm glad it was not rushed.
To sum up, these two were my favorite Black Clover chapters and I will reread them many times.
And my coloring at the end I hope you enjoy 💕 The new Dawn for the Silva family.

being in the spn fandom is the closest i’ll ever come to having a career in academia i think, all we do is argue the same esoteric points with citations about a program created for a demographic so far removed from us, like people arguing about euripides

another Nosferatu detail that I personally consider delightful is that, toward the end of the movie, when Von Franz tells Ellen she could've been a great priestess in another age, the specific example he uses is a "priestess of Isis."
Isis, in Ancient Egyptian myth, is known for having reassembled her murdered husband Osiris from scattered body parts, reviving him (and making him the first mummy) as king of the afterlife.
Adding to that the lilacs, symbolizing rebirth, and a bright new dawn - I must admit, I struggle to understand the people who think that the finale is so simple as to exist within the limitations of single, tragic interpretation. It's not.
Death is also a beginning.
