alright y’all. let me spin ye a yarn ye shan’t soon forget (it’ll take like 40 seconds to forget shh)
i saw MEAN GIRLS yesterday at MY OLD HIGH SCHOOL so here’s some notable moments
-literally as soon as we set foot in the building the fire alarm went off and we all had to evacuate
-3 fire engines and the fire chief showed up
-they entered the school with an axe
-no fire
-show begins damian adlibs a line and goes “and how her dodgy decisions caused another girl to get hit by a fire truck. BUS. A BUS.”
-for context overall i just need you to imagine a bunch of really talented kids being done so dirty by the adults in charge of them and this entire production looking like it has a $45 budget.
-they did not have desks despite being in a school.
-casting was piss poor except for like 3 roles which is sad bc those kids all had great voices and were just given parts that didn’t suit them
-damian CARRIEEEED. he was delightful
-the costumes. good god. i say again the budget but hoooo y’all. also there were almost no sets which was neat
-the show itself was censored to within an inch of its life which made me laugh bc it was not at all what i expected given that the other hs production i saw did not censor anything except maybe 5 words total
-it was opening night to be fair to the kids but regina had a costume malfunction right before the ‘what’s wrong with me’ feed in scene so the other three had to improv
-cady looked around for SO LONG and was like “your room is really cool. …and really… pink.”
-karen then joins in
-looks under the pillow
-“there’s no tooth for the tooth fairy D:”
-cady says “i don’t know, i would’ve thought regina had lost all her teeth by now”
-“no, i’m sure she has at least three left”
-karen then tries to put cady’s new shoes on over top of the shoes she’s already wearing
-THE BUS
-WAS A TOY BARBIE JEEP
-the jazzy was a motorized scooter STOLEN FROM THE LOCAL TARGET with the logo still on and everything
-karen and cady were sisters which was adorable and they looked so similar i thought they were twins but their body language saved it
-the choreography was absolutely piss poor it was wonderful
-during the ‘id rather be me’ feed in scene the orchestra in the pit raised their hands when they did the whole “raise your hand if you’ve ever said something bad about another girl behind her back” bit
-they played actual bells. like “for whom they toll” type in world burn
-the dresses they wore in ‘stars’ were the same ones we wore when i was there. in a production of the sound of music.
