If you are someone who hates bugs and kills them on sight (except for those that can actually cause considerable harm) please..just..take a second...think before you act. Does that bug need to die? Are you killing it just to feel better?

Yes, phobias are real. I have arachnophobia. And it's taken a long time for me to get to the point I'm at now where i can hold jumping spiders and be sort of near wolf spiders. I still struggle but to be in a field where you're outside a lot, you have to get comfortable with spiders sometimes crawling on you.

The first step is respect. You don't have to like or enjoy bugs. But you need to respect what their role is in the environment. To make it easier, think of animals you DO like and learn about their relationship with bugs. You really like birds? Well guess what a ton of birds eat. Even birds that don't directly eat bugs may eat things that do (ya know the whole food web thing). Bugs also may positively impact their environment through nutrient cycling, eating other, more destructive bugs, eating harmful molds, bacteria, or fungi, pollination, etc.

I used to be skeeved out by a lot of bugs, particularly bug larvae. Guess what I'm studying right now? Invertebrates are so interesting once you get past the initial discomfort.

Many of us believe invertebrates = gross/scary. This needs to stop. Invertebrates are going extinct so fast and because everyone hates them we don't have enough research to even know how many we are losing. Pesticides/herbicides have completely wiped out a significant portion of the invertebrate population, and that's along with other things like pollution, ocean acidification, invasive species, etc.

We are losing spiders. We are losing centipedes. We are losing tiny flies. We are losing worms and beetles and bees and wasps. We are losing butterflies and fireflies. Some invertebrate species only exist in one small pond or cave. Some have never actually been seen and some have only been seen once. And its affecting all of us. Fish are disappearing from streams because there's nothing to eat. Amphibians are disappearing because there's nothing to eat (and bc of chytrid fungus). Bats are disappearing because there's nothing to eat (and bc of white nose syndrome). Pangolins, axolotls, red pandas, armadillos, woodpeckers, monkeys, salamanders, these all have diets that are either partially or only fulfilled by bugs.

I go outside in the summer, and don't even have to use bug spray anymore. I remember getting chased by swarms of nats and mosquitos. Nights glittering with hundreds of fireflies. Now I only worry about mosquitos in the spring by the water. Even then I have maybe 5 bites at most, when before I used to be covered in bites from being outside. Before I was born, windshields used to be COVERED in bugs when you went down the highway.

Please, you don't have to like them, but please make an effort to change your initial reaction. They are earthlings just like us. They don't deserve to die because they aren't cute. We need more funding and research. They are getting wiped out and people think that's a fucking good thing. Stop using bug zappers. Try using bug repellent that doesn't have DEET in it (only use it if absolutely necessary), take the bug out in a cup and piece of paper, use methods other than pesticides to get pests out of your garden. Yes sometimes you need to kill a tick or get the termites or ants out of your house. Sometimes a venomous spider gets in your house and it's not safe to handle them. Sometimes they are killing your plants and you need to get rid of them. But a harmless millipede who's one defense is to literally curl into a little spiral and is completely harmless? Does it really have to die?

Sorry this is a mean post but like. At my friend's wedding on Saturday sometimes people would look over at my phone and see I was on tumblr. And make comments like "YOU'RE STILL ON TUMBLR?" and "OMGGG I REMEMBER TUMBLRRRR"

And like I dunno. This is the mean part: yeah, sometimes people use websites for reasons other than being obsessed with porn? Like I know people have legit criticisms of the ban but I get so skeeved out when people act like there's literally no use for a website if it's not full of fucking porn. Sorry, I have other interests and I think you maybe should too. I think if your life on a website that is not specifically for porn revolves entirely around porn to the point that you think it's worthless and nobody uses it anymore bc there isn't porn on it, that's YOUR weird fucking porn obsession, dude.

I obviously have no issue with people consuming nsfw content but the prevalence of posts like "remember how you'd be scrolling your dashboard and there'd just be tons of dicks???" and "NOBODY'S here anymore bc of the porn ban!" are so insanely bizarre to me bc I've p much never seen porn on my dashboard unless someone's account was hacked.

Like sorry! This is mean but not everyone's life revolves around constantly looking at porn on every single website! For god's sake it got really weird after the like THIRD "OMG YOU STILL USE TUMBLR WOW!!!" comment. Yeah, I have friends on here and I like to look at funny memes and nice art! Apparently someone wrote in saying there was no way Wally could’ve made a crater via sonic boom. Then they published letters from two other guys explaining at length how it was not only possible, but it had to have happened. AND THEN they also published a follow up from the original guy apologizing and saying that one of the other two dudes wrote him directly to correct him. I know there’s fan discourse online, but could you imagine someone hand writing you a letter to correct you, and mailing it to your home?? 🤣 Wild.

favorite thing about them — i feel like he could have been a very interesting exploration into like, dehumanization in general, since he's so entwined with it. since he desires to become nothing but a puppet, and he also grew up into a world where becoming a thoughtless machine of violence would be desirable, there could be a lot of interesting stuff to explore, but i never felt as though kishimoto really intended to delve deep into that.

I believe that your intentions are good and that you’re coming from a place of genuine interest and care, but I’m not really thrilled with the use of the b’rachot (blessings) and I’m assuming you’re using a menorah/hanukkiah as well? That’s religious language and ritual object, especially the menorah/hanukkiah, which represents the seven branched menorah that was in the Great Temples of Jerusalem. You’re using them as intended, which is a point in your favor, but they’re not really intended to be used by non-Jews without invitation or permission.

I’m not entirely sure what you mean by “never bring Christianity into it”; I can only assume that you avoid mentioning Jesus or saints or whatever else Christianity does that Judaism doesn’t. Thanks, I guess?

I think you’re very valid to feel a bit skeeved out by this whole thing. I’m a little skeeved out, honestly, and in the grand scheme of Jewish ritual, Hanukkah is a very minor holiday on the calendar, so that helps a bit. I’d probably be a lot more offended if you said you guys were doing this for Passover or (god forbid) Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur.

In my layman’s opinion, I think you guys need to put the kibosh on this until you can meet with a rabbi (or five) to explain the religious and cultural background of the holiday and its rituals. If your brother still wants to participate, see if a local synagogue will let you visit their communal celebrations, but if they don’t, don’t push it. I’m fairly open and liberal when it comes to welcoming non-Jews into my observances, but not everyone is. Maybe take this opportunity to explain cultural and religious appropriation to your brother (and your parents if needed) and why it’s not really a great look to conduct rituals for a religion you don’t actually practice/believe in.

I guess I just wanna thank you for making this blog! I've played The Arcana and while I did love some parts I was so uncomfortable with others. As a traumatized neurodivergent person I found the way Muriel is treated to be.... yikes-inducing, to say the least. I also found Asra's controlling behavior in some routes to be really creepy and even triggering and I was shocked by how the fandom sweeps that part of him under the rug in favor of "Well, he saved you so you owe him a relationship".

Lucio sucks and downplaying the trauma he's caused the other characters is gross as hell, especially when they encourage the MC to push traumatized character's boundaries (*cough* MURIEL *cough*). Putting borderline smut in a PG-13 game is not good (I'm a minor and am currently trying to come to terms with how that kind of content has affected me). So. There's my 2 cents as a now former-fan. Ship that you find cute but don't ship: ✌️Tricky one in that I don't honestly ship a lot in this context!  I have an OTP and a garbage scow and everything else is either "Oh, GOD, no" or a shrug.  Mmm...I guess, done a certain way, Naito/Hiromu.  Sometimes people have things beginning back at the dojo, which skeeves me out to an extent bc I find it hard not to read that kinda power imbalance as grooming/abuse of authority.  But things involving Hiromu are also inherently cute, so sometimes it can be.

This is really interesting. Considerably, as the person who is uncomfortable with the general approach to astrology, I can speak to your saying that it hasn’t actually lead to compatibility. Example:

Once when I was at this spiritual dude’s house, he looked up my sign and specifically asked for my bf’s sign to compare, then compared his compatability with me to my compatability with my s/o, pointing out how the book said we were more compatible.

As gross and presumptuous as that seems, that’s how it always feels to me. Instead of paying attention to me (I was not interested in that guy, not available, yet he didn’t ask if I was or not) a person is suddenly reacting to a simplified concept of me. They look to it and trust it more than they want to get to know me.

From the outside, I almost never see people talking about doing this aside from romance, which doubly skeeved me because intimate relationships are the most genuine, the most honest, or should be, so to see people trying to ‘type’ and peg possible dates by type seemed weirdly inhumane and predatory to me. Like if you are trying to be intimate lovers, that is the time to be open, present and honest, genuinely inspecting, learning and appreciating who they show you to be.

It also seemed like a lot of cognitive dissonance because there’s a huge overlap in New Age/Metaphysical Laws and Astrology. So what didn’t seem to gel to me was like, knowing that the universe shows you what you expect, how did it not seem like blatant self-fulfilling prophecy to say “such and such type person is always a problem”?? Add to that, like you said, how no one who uses charts this way seems to be able to avoid continual, repeated drama in their lives. So why trust it so much? I’ve never once used charts with people and I meet wonderful people all the time and have lots of love and success.

It is important to me to be open to others’ spiritual languages and beliefs but at the end of the day a lot of it just doesn’t compute. It’s just another identity to confuse. And so since there was something judgy about it, I always got this judgy vibe from people who used it. So I’ve just never been into Astrology, even after studying it.

So wow yeah it’s interesting that so much of what couldn’t really let me settle with Astrology are the same things that make you feel like you don’t need it any more. I think it’s important to remember that all magic is really just a magic feather and don’t get caught up in giving external things power over your own intuition.

I don’t think it’s bad- like I said it’s perfectly fine for introspection and if you’ve learned what you’ve learned now about yourself, you only did so in this manner by using astrology as an experiment- so it’s all part of the process. I guess it’s more like a training wheel you can take off when you’re ready to speed up.

I totally feel ya friendo, it’s certainly a kink that’s not for everyone since there are plenty of people who understandably feel ‘ehhh’ about pregnancy in general. I know I’ve written about it several times prior for Drabblewatch, and I do talk about it highly on my main blog (it’s certainly on my top 10 kink list and I think it shows at times).
