One of the things that is kind of taken out of the shows and later movies is that in the first, each dragon, even in the same species, have some varying qualities like head shape. A good example of this is the flight to the Red Death’s nest, where a few Zipplebacks are seen with different eye sizes or chins. I just think that’s neato.

Worst beards: Kraken Edition

First of all, I want to say that no matter how bad the beard may be, I will love it. Second, unless we miraculously go to the second round, we won't truly know what these guys look like fully bearded -- I have my doubts that some of them can grow a full beard in a week or two (I'm looking at you, Eeli).

But we have Movember to provide us a preview of this, and several Kraken grew handsome, or at least decent, mustaches in that time! Carson Soucy was the undisputed champion.

I have decided not to cheat and look up how some of these guys looked in their prior Cup beards, and in some cases they were so very young (Dunner) that it might not be applicable now. So here is my bracket!

I have immense faith in how awesome Matty's four-day-old beard will be. Given the way it's threatened to grow in on multiple occasions, I am pretty sure Matty has a 10 o'clock shadow and will look stunning. (His age is not a factor. Some guys are just blessed.) I also think Canner is gonna do just fine, and Soucy will look spectacular. I have some memories from last year of how Burky's beard looked, but I think Geeks is going to be the winner there anyway. (Sorry, Geeks!)

On the left, the only one I feel like I'm taking a chance on is Sprong vs. Gourde. I'm not sure either of them will acquit themselves well here. But I have faith in Schultz and Oleksiak (hold the blue line, boys!), and while I have strong moral disagreement with Donato sporting facial hair, I think it's likely to be better than Eeli. (Note: I also have strong moral disagreement with Eeli having facial hair, but the hockey gods are not kind in that regard. The mustache is a crime.)

Turbo vs. Yanni is another hard call. Turbo's grown some patchy beardishness in the past, and I did not approve. (Please note that I do not have a general dislike of beards! Bjorky, Gru, Jones, and especially Driedger have wonderful beards and I am fully in favor of those staying put.) But in the end, I believe Yanni will win out.

However, I don't think Yanni will overcome Eeli in terms of bad beards, and I am also pretty sure that Eeli cannot out-pizza the Hut. I think Geeks will be our bad beard champion.

Also, side note: Mike Benton thinks the Hakstol goatee is making a comeback for the playoffs, and I am HERE FOR IT. I know I am the rare person who thinks Hak has a bit of hotness himself, but the goatee is very much thumbs up in my book.

I would also like Ron Francis to grow a playoff beard, please and thank you. I know he's spent his time in the mines already and has the Cups to show for it, and that he doesn't need to, but look, Kyle Dubas does it. C'mon, Ron. You're on the list of Hot GMs. Bring it in. Help the team with your ~vibes~.

More Miles Headcanons (I love this boy) (From April 4th, 2018)

~ He like singing, obviously.

~It helps with his constant state of being annoyed.

~He's pretty sure Dodger has noticed his slight enhanced senses.

~She doesn't seem too bothered though.

~She trusts him.

~Really she just assumes it's because he's lived in Monster Gulch so long that he got super aware.

~The full moon has pretty much no effect on him.

~His stubble might get a teensy bit more beardish but its almost unnoticeable.

~His canines get slightly sharper too but again, hardly noticeable.

~His temper gets a bit shorter, which is really the biggest issue.

~The fist time a full moon rolled around with Enis in the group, Miles snapped at him really harshly.

~Enis actually teared up a bit.

~Miles didn't apologize until the morning.

~Miles can't eat chocolate, an unfortunate werewolf trait that got passed down.

~He's thankful claws wasn't one of those traits.

~Although his nails do grow faster than average.

~For some reason nail clippers are in every bandit shack ever so he doesn't need to worry about not being able to clip them.

~The main reason he gets annoyed with Enis is the vampire's lack of survival instincts.

~He has good skills, he just doesn't know when to use them.

~"Can you ever be quiet?" "Oh yeah! Vampires are experts at being silent!" "Well I think that dragon that nearly ate us would disagree." "Why?" "Because it found us because of your kazoo playing!"

~Enis looks up to Miles though.

~Enis was alone in that mansion for who knows how long.

~It's nice to have friends.

~Dodger is definitely much warmer to Enis than Miles is.

~Miles does have a bit of a soft spot for Enis but he'll never admit it.

~Enis is like an annoying little brother to them.

~His magic comes in handy a lot.

~He usually can't summon food, sadly.

~If he tries very hard he can make a portal that spits out raisins but it takes forever to do and the raisins aren't very good.

~It's barely worth it unless the group is actually about to die of starvation.

~Miles was three when he first ended up in Monster Gulch.

~He'd been visiting his Grandpa, a fact which he doesn't remember, with his mom and bandits had attacked.

~He has no clue what happened to his mom but he imagines the worst.

~A scavenger had found him and raised him until he was fifteen.

~Then he struck out on his own.

~If it weren't for those werewolf perks he'd probably be dead.

~He's a pessimist.

~A past like his will do that to you.

~Enis is an optimist.

~Dodger likes it, the two balance each other out so she's never too down and never too hopeful.

~Hopeful in Monster Gulch is dangerous.

~Miles is almost always frowning or scowling.

~On the rare occasion that he does smile it's close-lipped and looks like it hurts him.

~He's scared of heights.

~Very scared.

~He's stressed 24/7.

~He needs a nice hot cup of tea and a cookie.

~But it's Monster Gulch so instead he gets barely drinkable water and gross canned food.

~Or bad raisins.
