Hello! Because of the new TikTok ban scare alota people might come here in another exodus(it’s like the 3rd or 4th). It’s probably not gonna get banned but I would like to tell any new comers about Tumblr etiquette anyways! TLDR at bottom!

Ive been here since the quarantine(this is just a new account) so I know a bit(I’m also an internet history nerd so that helps). If any veteran tumblr users wanna chime in feel free to do so! Also please ask questions if you’re confused about wording or anything.

1. Porn bots:

This site has been plagued with porn bots for a long time but during an exodus you’re gonna see a lot of them. There accounts that are mostly empty for a while but then out of nowhere start posting porn and links to very sketchy sites and clog up tags. They’re very annoying to deal with and most users will end up blocking and reporting empty accounts and moving on. Unfortunately new users get caught in the crossfire and will get blocked and reported. Unlike sites like Twitter and TikTok were you can just not post and no one will bat an eye, people will see an empty blog start spam like posts and block them. You absolutely cannot have an empty blog. What you wanna do is fill your blog with posts related to your interests and reblog post you like. Not only is it helping you find your niche of weirdos but also signaling you’re not a bot. The most common first posts I’ve seen are intro posts and art dumps! Also decoration and blog customization also tells people you’re not a bot. Simply changein the pfp and header is enough for most of us tho.

2. Competition vr collaboration:

Unlike most socials tumblr is a collaborative site that loves creative bits and adding onto jokes rather than competition. It’s actually one of the main reasons tumblr and reddit are so intertwined. Competition and followers are not gonna get you anywhere. You’re better off finding a group of weirdos you like and befriending them. If people like you they’ll find you naturally. Also being tumblr famous is like getting buried alive. You don’t want to get famous here, the hate mail game is insane. Quick tip! Turn off annon asks if you don’t want some insane shit in your ask box or are more sensitive to weirdos. I have it on because I’m brave. The SCP community and other collaborative communities and fandoms all thrive here.

3. Tags:

I’ve seen newer users complain about “stolen tags”. You have never been able to “steal” a tag on any social media site I don’t know what they’re talking about. But anyways! Tags are one of the main ways you communicate on this site. Puns, comments, conversation, and more happen in the tags. It’s no longer a system of just finding posts you like. You wanna add something to a post but it doesn’t fit with the rest of it? Add it to tags. You wanna continue a bit or conversation? Tags. You just wanna goof off? Tags baby. It’s not the only communication of course but you will see conversations in the tags. Another tip! Tags will bleed into each other when looking for a super niche topic. Example: The Dr Glass, Glass Doctors, Dr Who, and Glasses tags will all bleed into each other but only when you are specifically looking for new Dr Glass content.

4. Ai:

Here Ai is very frowned upon unless under specific circumstances. Like reclaiming Ai adopts, actively mocking it, and chat bots. If you do post Ai “art” be cautious but you will end up getting mass blocked if we find you.

5. Fandom:

Like I’ve stated before this a collaborative site and as such you’re gonna see a lot of fandom here. Please be careful because mis info, interpretation, and bad faith spread like wildfire.

6. Don’t interact lists:

If you’re not aware a Do Not Interact list(DNI) is a list of groups or people who you don’t want interacting with your blog(s). It depends on the user but the most common ones in the lists are Homo/transphobes, Pedos, racists, sexists, and generally bigots. But remember for the life of however long your on this site not everyone is gonna listen to your DNI and they will interact anyways. It’s just as simple as blocking someone you don’t like.

TLDR:

No empty blogs, you don’t compete you collaborate, tags are important, Ai is generally frowned upon, fandom gets wild, and a don’t interact list won’t always work and just block people you don’t like.

i sent that message to every account that was following me that didn't have a non-default profile pic and/or a blog title. because there were a lot of you. it's possible I blocked you when I received no response because I assumed my suspicions were correct -- several people replied or at least added a pfp. those that didn't, I mostly deleted or blocked... either way, I actually don't have a way of knowing who you are now lol

Feel free to send me a dm or a message off anon and we can chat but the basic gist is: no one wants bots following them. they artificially inflate follower counts that no one else can see anyway, and in the past there have been issues with bots reblogging posts and adding spam, malware, and p*rn. Unfortunately, a lot of new users don't realize that if they don't personalize their blog with a pfp and a title (and freaking. reblog. content. this is not Twitter or tiktok. don't just like stuff. USE THE SITE, for crying out loud.) they look like bots and I've been around long enough to have lost all patience with bots.

BUT. Because there IS an influx of new users, I'm trying to be lenient and not just assume those are bots. I give blogs 48 hours or so to see my dm and respond in some way -- even if it's just silently adding a pfp and a blog title that says "I'm a real person!" which is actually what a couple of them did lol. Then, if they didn't respond, I generally blocked them. a few I could actually tell were real blogs and I just deleted the message but... follower counts don't matter here, and blocking isn't a statement or a big deal. so if I accidentally block a few real blogs in weeding bots, it's not that bad.

anyway, hope that made any sense I literally just woke up and I'm not processing at full speed yet good morning cruel world.

hello, out there ~

pls excuse my lack of pfp, header or anything of the like, i promise this is a blog by a human and not a bot account.

i don't remember when i made this blog, but i had originally created it with the intentions of not only trying to help other artists slow down and appreciate all the hard work they put into their creations since the surge of 'hustle culture' is forever prominent on social media platforms these days in order to have any hope of presence and consequently, i feel causing artists to feel less value in the work they accomplish, sadly, but to also help myself be more aware of and actually celebrate the advancement of my own skill and hard work that i put towards my art and hobbies.

unfortunately, as is quite apparent by this empty blog that's been floating around in my list of blogs for some time now, i think i've hit more of a wall in my creativity than was previously known.

i've always struggled a lot over the many years (probably close to around 15 now) that i actually have tried to actively improve my art skills to work towards specific goals in that i struggle in knowing exactly HOW to practice art, as far as good fundamental/foundational knowledge is concerned, but i also... pretty much only have WIPs and next to no finished pieces of art (and this is also true for many other hobbies i do; hardly anything ever gets finished).

it's incredibly demotivating and disheartening, especially with the new modern day expectation of artists (or creators of any kind, really) to churn out art as if they were machines and seeing people's quick improvements and new discoveries of skills. i constantly feel behind in the art world. and yes, i'm aware that it's not a requirement to put out art in this manner for hobbyist artists; slow artists are valid and can be very successful and fulfilled, too. but i think we've all felt the pressure to create more and more, faster and faster than before even if it's just for validation purposes.

and it's almost become a requirement if you wish to have any hope of obtaining any monetary compensation for your work (which, i have hoped to obtain even small scale as extra funds for years when i was abled enough to work, but even more so now that i find myself at a higher needs disabled status and unable to work + mostly home-bound and would like to sell my art skills for even a little bit of financial independence after being forced to move back in with my parents for unforeseen personal reasons). i think this is why i tend to find myself crawling back to sites where things WERE slower years ago when i first started to get into the art world.

as is also the motivation for wanting to create this blog. to encourage us all to remember, it's okay to take our time and experiment and learn at a pace that's enjoyable again and just share our achievements in pure enjoyment for creation and less for the sake of getting stuff out there as quick as possible or the first to jump on new trends/popular content for the numbers.

so i guess we start here. in a position of where i find myself unable to create despite.. wanting to on an almost daily basis.

im often wondering how so many people ARE able to create daily, how do they stay motivated and focused? what keeps them inspired to always have ideas to put down on canvas?

this is especially the case for anyone who is of any neurodivergencies that affect energy, focus and motivation and are able to create consistently because this is seeming to be a very significant struggle with myself (i'm assuming has always been but have only more recently discovered that i'm VERY much ND) as of late.

i'm certain i'm not the only person out there feeling this exact same way or very similarly. so, please, i invite anyone interested in taking a breather away from social platform expectations and growing more peacefully in skill to join me in trying to discover how to achieve this.. together.

i can't say for sure what exactly i have planned for this blog and how we can all come together to bring more genuine joy back to creating, as i often have many ideas, but i tend to be quite lost as to how to follow through with them. maybe we'll figure it out along the way.

anyone of any skill level and any medium of art is welcome to join. (i will say up front, i do not consider any ai made anything to be a self-made art-form as it is imitating works of real human artists, so that is not an acceptable 'medium' here. you're welcome to pick up a pencil, stylus, brush, sculpting material, whatever if you'd like to actually participate and learn a skill from this space)

i suppose what i'm asking of this first post is.. how is it that YOU create? how or what do you do for practicing or warm-ups? what do you do on days where there's less focus or motivation for drawing or creating? what inspires your work?

very interested in others' creative process, and please those who deal with road blocks from neurodivergent disorders, lemme know how you work around them in order to do what you do ~

It's from my initial! My initial is DRK so I just take the first 2 letters, and then the first syllable of my name is pronounced like 'Dee' so I added a bunch of Es between them. I was gonna do just 'deeeer' but I don't really want to have a deer as my name so I added 2 dash between it hahah

1. Why did you choose your url?

I used to have a different tumblr, and then my sister saw me on it and literally took the mouse and made me follow her own tumblr, and it made me So Immensely uncomfortable, I immediately went and made a whole new blog, and messaged all my mutuals privately to tell them I was moving so my sister wouldn't find out. As I struggled to come up with something more creative than 'time-lady," I remembered one of my mom's favorite sayings, "Reality sucks, live in fiction" and since livinginfiction was taken, my friend (who was helping with the crisis) and I added an 's.' Voila. Seven years later, it's the only username i have online. XD

2. Any side blog?

Three, actually. We've got @merthurismycrack where I reblog Merthur shit, @samspsychicpowers for some SPN stuff, and the side blog that's basically my main blog at this point: @asterekmess which is where all my Teen Wolf and Sterek stuff goes.

3. How long have you been on tumblr?

Uhhh, I've been on this blog since August of 2014, but my old blog was started in....March 2013. I've been around a fucking while.

HA. Fuck no. Do I look that organized? Y'all get three hours of spam reblogs, and then I disappear into the aether. How it should be. XD

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?

This is essentially the same as I said for question one. Sister found the old blog, and I needed a new one. I tend to make my side blogs for more pointed material, so that my main blog can have like...the amalgamation of general stuff i like, and then I can keep the fandomy content more concentrated into the side blogs.

6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?

Originally, I did not have this icon. I had this pic I found online with these Beautiful bronze wings against a black background. But then, around the time I decided I wanted to sort of...simplify things and make my username for my online stuff all the same, with all the same pfp's so that I was easily recognized, etc, I realized that....that picture was not mine. I didn't design it or anything. And i couldn't find its source to ask for permission to use it. And it started making me feel shitty for using it in the first place. So I spent like an hour and a half trying to make my Own Wing pic to use, and failed miserably. As a last ditch effort, i went through my 'artistic' photos on my phone and found this one. I adore sky pics, and cloud pics, etc, so it was super my thing, and I just slapped it on there. Still not sick of it. XD I also went to my side blogs and changed out the pfp's for photos that I'd taken, except the sterek blog, because that one is literally just a black triskelion on a white background, and it's a pretty non-specific thing. I would have used a picture of my Own Tattoo, but it's very hard to get a picture of my back that doesn't have weird lighting, and I'm just too lazy.

7. Why did you choose your header?

All my headers are also photos that I've taken or art pieces that I've made. In the case of this blog, it's a picture I made with a 'galaxy maker' online thingy. I love green. I love blue. Ta dah. In general i just try to find something that gives me the right vibes or has the right color palette to match what it's for. (orange and blue for sterek, trees for merlin, and wings for spn)

8. What’s your post with the most notes?

On this blog? I.....just spent two hours digging through all my posts tagged 'personal' bc i wanted the post that I MADE with the most notes...and i have no idea. I mostly respond to other posts, rather than making my own. The highest note count i can find is a post i made abt having friends that aren't in your fandom, which means you can use inspirational quotes to help them through tough times without them realizing ur quoting doctor who or something. 22 notes. *fingerguns* I'm famous, i know.

Uh, nearly every day, multiple times a day. Sometimes i forget it exists for a couple days, though. It's my only social media. I dont use twitter or facebook or instagram. I Have Accounts, but I literally dont open those apps more than once a month.

My sterek blog gets in fights more often than it should. XD I'm feisty. And I dunno who wins, i think no one. it's tumblr. there's no real winning or losing.

Oh 90% of the time I'll fucking ignore it on principle. I come to tumblr to enjoy myself and escape. I refuse to guilt the shit out of myself and my followers for not reblogging something deemed Essential. I don't care how deep the topic is or how heavy. Sometimes that's WHY I'm not reblogging it, because I don't want that shit on my blog. The other 10% of the time, I'll go to most recent reblog that Doesn't have the guilty shit on it, and then reblog that.

1. Why did you choose your url?  It was actually a nickname of mine at one of the places I used to work. (Everyone of us on the day shift ended up getting a cutesy nickname, and since my name is Wendi, they ended up calling me Wendi-bird. (Which, for those not familiar, is a reference to Peter Pan.) Also, I love birds, especially birds-of-prey and corvids. 

2. Any side blogs? Yes. I actually have an entirely other blog for anime and Disney stuff, since this one is primarily Supernatural, but I keep forgetting to check it. >.< I also have an actual sideblog that I use for more nsfw content. (If you’re really curious about it you can message me.) 

3. How long have you been on Tumblr? *goes to check* (Okay, that was way more complicated that it should have been. *LOL*) According to the Tumblr Memories Blog I signed up on  07/30/2017. So it’s been almost 4 years. 

4. Do you have a queue tag? *LOL* That’s cute. No. (And not that I think the idea of having a queue is “cute” but the idea anyone would think I’m organized enough to have one definitely is.) I just peruse Tumblr during breaks or in the evening and randomly reblog stuff as I see fit and other people get to deal with the possible spam that may cause. 

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place? I first got introduced to SPN and it’s fandom through Facebook, and on there I came across a lot of posts that I found out were screenshots of Tumblr where it seemed like the fandom was having all kinds of fun making EVERYTHING about SPN. And I wanted to see this firsthand. So I made a tumblr account. And couldn’t figure it out at first so kind of forgot about it for a while. Then I joined GISH one year and Tumblr was one of the approved places for posting things that needed to be posted publicly. So I knuckled down and figured it out. (It really doesn’t have a good “how to use this site” intro, and that’s just talking about how the site actually works. The fandom culture itself is a whole other issue.) 

6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp? One, it went with the “bird” theme. Two, I like ravens. Three, I love the Native American legends of Raven, especially the one of him stealing the Sun, Moon, and Stars. Four, other personal reasons.

7. Why did you choose your header? For much the same reasons as 6. I looked for some cool art featuring Raven and liked this one. (And it went well with all the purples I tend to favor.) 

8. What’s your post with the most notes? I have NO idea how to find this out for sure. *LOL* Especially if we’re talking about original content and not just stuff I’ve reblogged. (Which is what I mostly do.) I DO have a few original posts though. And I think this has gotten the most traction. “A Study in Subtlety” which is about the lighting used in the diner scenes in “Mystery Spot”.

9. How many mutuals do you have? Okay, how TF am I supposed to find this out?! *LOL* Tumblr will tell me how many people I follow, and how many people follow me, but as far as I can tell, the only way to figure out how many of them overlap is to physically count them based on who it does or doesn’t ask if I want to follow back. And f-that noise. I have 334 followers. Scrolling through the list, my guess is I follow back approximately half of them? *LOL*  

10. How many followers do you have? 334 Though I haven’t done a sweep for porn bots lately and sometimes they slip through. (I usually check new followers out as soon as I get the notification for it just to make sure but sometimes I’m at work and don’t want to mess with it then and there.)

11. How many people do you follow? 402 And I probably need to go through that list again because I’m sure some are inactive or we just don’t have coinciding interests anymore. But that takes more time and effort than I tend to have at a given time. *LOL*

12. Have you ever made a shitpost? Hrm. I mostly reblog stuff but of the original content I have made, I don’t thiiiiiink any of it would be considered a shitpost. (I should fix that at some point. Though you never know what’s going to take off and what’s going to languish in obscurity.) 

13. How often do you use Tumblr each day?  I dunno. *LOL* A lot. I tend to check it when I’m at work during slow times or on my breaks, and then in the evening I go between it and some discord servers I’m on. 

14. Did you have a fight/argument with another blog once? Not that I remember... I really don’t like confrontation so if someone started shit I’d be more likely to ghost out than engage. I’ve gotten involved in a few meta debate threads but even with those I try to argue with facts, or if it’s my interpretation I state it as such, and try to keep it to the subject matter and not personal things about the other people. 

15. How do you feel about “you need to reblog this” posts? I hate them. Generally if I see something like that, even if it was about something I agreed with I won’t reblog it because I don’t want to encourage that kind of emotional blackmail culture. If your message is important enough to people they’ll reblog it. Trying to bully them into it isn’t okay. 

16. Do you like tag games? Those I like! It’s always implied that participation is optional, and it’s more personal. You were usually tagged because someone was thinking specifically of you. And more often than not they’re fun! 

17. Do you like ask games? They look fun, and I often participate by sending in asks if I know the blog-person well enough. Though I don’t think I’ve done many myself. Very few of them are about things I think anyone would want to know about me anyway, or that really apply.

Tumblr Tag Game!

1. Why did you choose your url?

It’s my username in most internet spaces and I like not having to keep up with different accounts/names haha :) The story behind PocketMouse is a little convoluted, so I won’t bore you with it in its entirety, but the nutshell version is that when I was younger I carried around stuffed animals in my pockets as a way of easing my many anxieties... I have other coping strategies now, but I still like to stick a little buddy in my front shirt pocket from time to time for fun (much to the amusement of my students!). The 18 is a remnant of needing a number to differentiate the accounts, but 18 is one of my favorites numbers for several reasons, including a) it ends in an 8, a number I’m fond of, b) it’s a multiple of 3, which I like very much, and c) there’s personal significance :)

2. Any side blogs?

Nope! That sounds too complicated for me lol

3. How long have you been on tumblr?

Not very long... less than a year, I think.

Nope!

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?

I was posting stuff I was writing on FFN and Ao3 and more than one person asked me if I had a tumblr. Eventually I was persuaded to try it, and I’m happy I did!

It’s the same picture I use elsewhere :) I like things to be the same across platforms (if you couldn’t tell lol). It’s from a photo set I love of rats interacting with different objects like tiny musical instruments and tiny furniture, and the teddy bear one is my favorite :)

7. Why did you choose your header?

I’m gonna be honest, I had to look up what that was ._. I think mine is just the generic pattern that came preset, which perhaps I should look into changing...

8. What’s your post with the most notes?

I’m not sure... Upon looking back at my archive I think it’s actually the very first post I made, where I just kind of introduced myself haha. That one has 8 notes! The one I wrote about my students’ favorite heroes has 7 (although one of those notes is mine, since I reblogged it for a part 2) - so it’s a close second!

9. How many mutuals do you have?

Those are people who we both follow each other, right? (can you tell I don’t really know how to use this website yet lol). If that’s the case, then many! 25, if I counted right :) I don’t talk with all of them (mostly because I’m very, very shy, I’m so sorry) but they’re all great and I love getting to know them :)

10. How many followers do you have?

45! A number of those don’t seem to be real people, though, given the nature of their usernames and... nsfw content? Not that posting nsfw stuff is inherently bot-like, but like... they’re definitely bots lol

41 awesome people :)

I don’t think so...

Usually I get on once or twice after work and try to catch up on stuff (and more often on my days off!). I might go a day or two without checking if I’m particularly busy.

Not to my knowledge! I certainly hope not, I wouldn’t want to upset someone else (but also I would hope someone would tell me if I upset them, so I could take steps not to do so again).

15. How do you feel about the ‘you need to reblog’ posts?

They’re kind of stressful :/ I won’t spend the rest of my day thinking about them, but I’ll feel kind of bad as I don’t follow their instructions...

Yes, very much! I don’t always answer in a timely manner, but I get very excited to see I’ve been tagged :)

18. Which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?

They all are, to me :) I think they’re all really cool and awesome, and the fact that they know other people and talk to them already makes them feel famous and connected from my perspective! Plus, they’re all very talented and make incredible art and gifs and write beautiful pieces, of which I am in awe :) I’m not exactly sure by what metrics someone might measure tumblr fame, so I can’t speak to *technical* fame, but I will say that I would consider several mutuals to be well recognized and well regarded in their particular fandoms/corners of the internet :)

19. Do you have a crush on a mutual?

I don’t think so :) Many of them I would always be happy to get to know better, though!
