okay but honestly? big love to all the transfems out there who don't fit the "usual stereotypes" that get tossed around a lot in online spaces.
Straight transfems
Asexual/Aromantic transfems
Sex-repulsed/non-hypersexual transfems
Transfems who aren't good at math
Transfems who aren't good with computers
Transfems who aren't big on gaming
Fat and/or hairy transfems
Transfems who like sports and the outdoors
Transfems who are "mainstream" and don't really do subcultures
Transfems who aren't furries
Neurotypical transfems
And of course, the biggest love to older transfems and transfems of color -- without you, this community wouldn't be here at all.
As a furry transfem gamer nerd who listens to weird music and is neurodivergent as hell, I love seeing all these folks online who are like me -- but I just wanted to post this thingie to make it clear that all transfems (and all trans people in general! I love you too, transmascs!) are deserving of love and appreciation, not just the ones we typically see online, y'know?

A while ago I came out as being bisexual, & while it does feel amazing and liberating can I still be attracted to nb people? I the definition of bisexuality is to be attracted to men & women only & while I technically fit into pansexuality I don't necessarily identify as it. The point is can I still be bisexual if what I am contradicts the definition? I figured somebody like you could help me.
Aww hey hey that's okay <3
I'll shed some light onto my thought process, as I'm a firm believer that bisexuality does NOT exclude nonbinary people.
So, everyone has their own way of defining their sexuality. It just so happens that bisexuality and pansexuality have a lot of overlap, but the distinction is still important to people, and that's okay
Personally I identify as bi/pan because the distinction between the two is largely negligible to me. I believe that the overlap on the venn diagram between the two is where my sexuality falls. I tend to just say I'm bisexual cuz like. it tends to be the aspect of my identity that gets erased the most, but it's important enough to me to where I like to assert it as much as I can to deny that erasure.
Some definitions i've heard for inclusivity's sake are as follows (but whether or not you want to follow these definitions is flexible to your own comfort level):
Bisexuality CAN be defined as attraction to both YOUR gender, and genders that differ from your own (hence the "bi" meaning 2). This is a little less rigid than saying that bisexuality is strictly an attraction to MEN and WOMEN, so some people tend to prefer it.
Pansexuality CAN be referred to as loving anyone REGARDLESS of gender, where gender doesn't actually come into consideration at all. This definition is good, but also, people who identify as bisexual COULD have largely the same thought process.
Do these sound similar?? yes! It's because they ARE similar, and they also aren't rigid definitions that everyone has to follow. The overlap is inherent for a very specific reason: comfort.
This is something that usually gets overlooked when the public consciousness talks about labels. There's a lot of arguments about specific definitions, and which labels are good or bad, which ones are inclusive, and which ones aren't, but I think these arguments leave out the central reason people use labels in the first place: Self Definition.
Labels, as they are, in reference to the LGBT community, are often used as a way to categorize and exclude other people (if you are a loser who's mean to people for identifying a certain way), but that is not their primary function. The reason we use labels (and this is true for everyone in the community), is because it helps us put words to our subjective experiences in a way that brings us the most comfort. Categorizing others is a waste of time, because the more people you meet throughout your life, the more you realize that peoples' ideas of gender and sexuality are all so varied and vast, much like the colors on a rainbow, that fitting them all into neat little boxes doesn't really work. There's no use trying to say that some labels are good and some labels are bad, because at the end of the day, the person you are observing DOES NOT identify as YOUR PERSONAL dictionary definition of their label. Rather, they have their own subjective experience, and they've chosen their own labels to define them (as rigidly or as loosely as they may).
Self-identifying is what it's always been: an individual's subjective reality put to words that make them comfortable.
It doesn't have to be any more specific than that <3

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve seen a marked increase in hate directed at my fellow writers of DARK fics by cowardly Anons. While each and every writer has undoubtedly held their own against the stupidity aimed at them, I have reached the point where I can no longer just Like and Reblog. So settle in and buckle up. This may be a long and bumpy ride.
1) First and foremost, YOU, AND ONLY YOU, ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MEDIA YOU CHOOSE TO CONSUME. It is not your place to decide A) What someone else writes and B) What someone else reads. I follow hundreds of Blogs on the site. The vast majority contain consensual sex, fluff, angsty etc. In other words not DARK content. Non-DARK content is incredibly easy to find. Even though DARK fics are becoming more popular they are still out numbered at least 100 to 1. You either have to be specifically looking for the DARK tag or following someone who consistently posts DARK fics to find them. So if DARK fics offend you unfollow the writer or filter out the DARK tag. If a DARK fic does somehow make its way onto your feed, be a damn adult and scroll past it. No one is standing behind you holding your eyes open making you read.
2) DARK fics are just another extension of “rape fantasy” which is a well documented (both scholarly and unscholarly) phenomenon. Rape fantasy “fics” have been found in print since at least the 1600’s. They were extremely popular during the Victorian period. In fact I’d be willing to bet that your mother, grandmother or great grandmother (depending on your age) read romance novels that, at the very least, contained dubious consent sexual situations. Do a quick search of the best selling romance books of the 70’s and 80’s. Most of them contained non-consent sexual situations. Today’s DARK fic is nothing new.
3) Rape fantasies/DARK fics have ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING TO DO WITH ACTUAL RAPE. It does not in any way, shape or form mean a person wants to be violently sexually assaulted. Nor does it mean they want any other person to be violently sexually assaulted. It’s a fantasy. Make believe.
4) DARK fics aren’t written because the writer is “sick,” “disgusting,” “perverted,” etc etc etc. That’s it. That’s all.
5) DARK fics/Rape fantasies have always been a way for women to take control of their bodies. Historically (and even currently) women have had their sexuality suppressed. “Good” girls weren’t supposed to actually enjoy sex. Sex with their husband has been referred to as the “woman’s curse,” “wifely duty,” etc etc. Women who enjoy sex, actively pursue sex, have more than one sexual partner, or experiment with sex are referred to as sluts, whores, wanton, nymphomaniacs, unnatural, witches, the list goes on and on. Out of sexual repression and frustration the “rape fantasy” was born. Rape fantasies allow women to enjoy sex without the guilt. Most DARK fics include the woman orgasming, usually multiple times, which in and of itself is unusual in the real world. (Hell, women fake orgasms so they don’t hurt their partners feelings or are too shy to ask for what they need in bed). Rape fantasies give women the freedom to experience sexual acts they may have been told were “gross” ie receiving oral sex or “taboo” ie anal sex or multiple partners. DARK fics work the same way. In the enlightened age of 2021 women’s bodies are STILL being regulated. We are still being called sluts and whores for actively pursuing sexual satisfaction. DARK fics give us the opportunity to explore our sexual desires and needs in a guilt free environment. You have an earth shattering orgasm from having your pussy eaten until you cry? No shame because you didn’t have a choice. Get off from having your face fucked? No shame because you didn’t have a choice. See how this works? Rape fantasies/DARK fics are an escapist way to enjoy sex. To wallow in pleasure that you have no choice but to enjoy.
5) Some DARK fics pull in aspects of BDSM or rather subsets of BDSM. The BDSM community is a large and varied one. There are hundreds of kinks. One of the subsets includes Edge play which involves kinks such as pain, knife, fear, degradation, blood etc. DARK fics can also include some form of a Dominate/submissive dynamic. Again, it’s a subset of D/s relationships that delve into “consensual” non-consensual sex acts. Play or scenes revolve around the submissive being taken against their will, “forced” to engage and enjoy the sexual acts being performed. As with rape fantasies/DARK fics it allows the submissive to enjoy sex, in a safe environment, without the guilt. This is probably TMI but as a submissive myself Edge play allows me to fully experience my sexuality by allowing me to give control over to someone else. DARK fics serve the same purpose. (True BDSM ALWAYS involves willing partners and healthy power dynamics.)
6) People deal with trauma in a million different ways. DARK fics are a way for people to work through their feelings. NEITHER YOU NOR ANYONE ELSE GETS TO DICTATE HOW SOMEONE DEALS WITH THEIR TRAUMA. I will not expand on this because I have no idea how others deal with trauma and I will not make presumptions as to why they choose the methods they do.
7) It is perfectly normal to become sexually aroused or think a DARK fic “is hot.” It all goes back to allowing oneself to enjoy sex without the guilt. Having numerous partners at the same time, anal sex or female receiving oral sex are common themes in DARK fics. In the real world women who participate in multiple partner sex or anal sex are still, unfairly, seen as “dirty” or “slutty,” or “freaky.” However, men who engage in the same acts with women are not. DARK fics allow women the freedom they are denied.
8) Despite the reasons I have listed above, no one needs a reason or your permission, to write, read, and enjoy a DARK fic.
I apologize if I rambled on. But this subject pisses me off. It is neither mine nor any other writer's job to cater to what you deem acceptable.
(This post focuses on the cis female/male dynamic of DARK fics. “Female” could be replaced with gay, lesbian, trans, bi, asexual, pansexual, gender fluid or any other individual/gender who has been denied access to enjoy their own sexuality. I do understand that there are many other factors that affect those not considered cis female or male but, due to my own lacking, I don’t know enough to properly and respectfully address those factors. I apologize for this.)

It’s been a while, what with me being being more active on Twitter these days, but I had some thoughts churning around in my brain and this felt like a better place to post them rather than threading them over there.
This is a post about Persona 5 and restorative justice. Before I go any further, though, a note: this is meta about restorative justice and prison abolition as ethical philosophies only, how it can be expressed/structured in works of fiction, i.e., Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal, and what the importance of doing so is.
I should also note that I am not a philosopher, a legal scholar, or an activist, I just like to read, and I strongly encourage you to look into the topics I’m discussing in this essay. If you want specific recommendations you can DM me; again, this being meta about a video game, I think linking those titles here would diminish their importance regarding what they’re actually about.
Ready? Okay. Let’s get started.
what is restorative justice?
‘Restorative justice’ is a concept in ethical and legal philosophy that holds itself in contrast to two other kinds of justice: punitive and carceral. Punitive justice is justice as punishment, i.e., an eye for an eye, while carceral justice involves justice as the confinement of criminal offenders. While both have heavy overlaps with one another, they’re distinct in the generality vs the specificity of their outcome: punitive justice can involve the death penalty, property seizure, permanent loss of rights, etc., carceral justice refers strictly just to the incarceration of criminal offenders in institutional facilities (jails, prisons, etc.).
Restorative justice, in contrast, roots itself in the understanding of closing a circle: the best and most holistic way to heal harm one person inflicts on another is to have the person who inflicted the harm make reparations to the person they hurt in a tangible and meaningful way. This can take many forms, and if you’re passingly familiar with restorative justice already, you may have heard about it involving the offender and the victim meeting face-to-face. This does happen sometimes. Personal acknowledgement of the harm you’ve inflicted on someone is important, and direct apologies are important, but these need to also be coupled with actions. The person behind a drunk hit-and-run of a parent could help put their orphaned child through school, or a domestic abuser could be made to take counseling and go on to help deter domestic violence in other households, and so on.
The vast majority of states across the world use punitive/carceral models, though small-scale community trials of restorative justice have been attempted, to varying degrees of success. No one is going to argue that it would be easy to implement, but it is important. Restorative justice is about recognizing that crime, specifically crimes against other people, are fundamentally still about two people: the perpetrator and the victim. And we have to look beyond the words perpetrator and victim to recognize that they are both human beings and challenge ourselves to build a society where our concept of justice means healing hurts instead of retaliation.
It’s not easy, but it is possible. It requires changing your own perceptions of justice and humanity and society and the big wide entire world to have the kind of mindset that allows it to be possible. But it is possible, and I know that from personal experience, because it’s my own mindset and I’ve been through trauma too.
prison abolition and the god of control
Persona 5 has an authority problem. By which I mean, Persona 5 has a problem challenging authority in any way that functionally matters.
The game is drenched in heavy-handed prison imagery, from jail cells to wardens to striped jumpsuits to cuffs and chains to an electric chair. Throughout the long build-up of the main storyline we’re treated to a confectionery delight of punitive justice, stick-it-to-the-man justice: the Thieves find a bad guy who coincidentally has personally hurt or is actively hurting one of their members, and they take it upon themselves to make the bad guy miserable and then send him off to jail. By the end of the arc you’re meant to feel like you accomplished something heroic, that by locking someone up you’re balancing the scales of justice. In the Kamoshida arc Ann even frames this in restorative justice terms, telling him he doesn’t deserve the easy way out of ending his own life and needs to live with his mistakes and repent, but he’s still sent off to jail regardless and Ann and Shiho are left to struggle through the trauma he put them through without anyone to really support them. This repeats itself, over and over: Madarame, Kaneshiro, Okumura, Shido--expose the bad guy, bring him low, publicly shame him, and then send him away (or, in Okumura’s case, watch him die on live TV to riotous cheers from the public).
And what does this all accomplish, in the end? You get to the Depths of Mementos on Christmas Eve to find the souls of humanity locked away in apathy, surrendered willingly to the control of the state, and your targets right there with them, thanking you for helping them return to a place where they don’t have to think of other people as people any more than they did before. In prison, they can forget that they are human beings and that all of the rest of the people in the world are too. The Phantom Thieves march upstairs and defeat the Gnostic manifestation of social control, that being that masquerades itself with lies as the true Biblical god. And then you go back home and the adults tell you that everything is okay now, the system itself isn’t rotten, and you just have to sit back, stop actively participating in the world, and let them take the reins.
It’s one of Persona 5′s most ironic conceits. “Prison abolition....good?” the player asks, and Atlus swats you on the hand and says, “Silly kids, prison abolition completely unnecessary because you can trust the state to not fuck up anyone’s lives anymore ever.” All while using prison imagery to present prisons as institutions inherently divorced from what might constitute actual justice.
Prisons exist because hierarchies exist, and so long as hierarchies exist, inequality will exist and people will commit harm who otherwise likely would not. But you can’t have your cake and eat it too, Atlus. You can’t frame prisons as an inherently unjust institution used to control people because you didn’t do anything to get rid of the hierarchy. You just gave the hydra a few new heads.
restorative justice and rehabilitation
Rehabilitation is Persona 5′s favorite buzz word, and for all that it’s used the game never really clearly defines what it’s supposed to mean. Yaldabaoth uses it as a euphemism to describe the process by which he creates his ideal puppet, but Yaldabaoth bad, and by the end of the game, Yaldabaoth dead. We get barely any time with Igor after that for Igor to define rehabilitation properly on his terms, which is notable in that Igor is the one who’s supposed to be the spiritual mentor of the wild card within the Persona universe.
We can only infer from that that it’s the player who’s meant to define what rehabilitation is by the end of the game, but because the game fails to take any concrete stance on its themes that could in any way undermine the idea that society isn’t functionally broken, it’s hard to figure out what conclusion we’re supposed to draw. As I stated above, the game immediately walks back any insinuations that it’s the institutions themselves that are rotten by having Sae and Sojiro step in and assume responsibility for making the world just by continuing to operate within the rules society itself has created. If you can’t beat them....join them?
If anything the closest we can get to coming up with a definitive understanding of what the game wants us to understand rehabilitation as is when the protagonist is in juvie. During those months we’re treated to an extended cutscene of all of your maxed out confidants taking action to get you out of jail, but because you can trigger this scene even if you haven’t maxed out all of your confidants, and because the outcome (getting out of juvie) is the same even if you haven’t maxed out any besides Sae, then we’re right back where we started.
But that cutscene still has a sliver of meaning to it despite it being largely window-dressing, because the game does push, over and over, the argument that it’s through your bonds with others, through building a community, that you’ll rehabilitate yourself and find true justice.
And that’s what restorative justice is about: community.
the truth: uncovering it vs deciding it
I can’t find enough words to convey how infuriating it is that Atlus comes so close to telling a restorative justice narrative and then completely drops the ball on displaying it at all in Goro’s character arc.
Goro’s concept of justice is fundamentally punitive, the textbook “you hurt me so I’m going to hurt you back.” In doing so he goes on to hurt a whole bunch of other people: orphaning Futaba, orphaning Haru, triggering a mental shutdown in Ohya’s partner Kayo, and also killing countless millions other instances of mental shutdowns, psychotic breakdowns, bribery, and scandal that caused people material harm and, in a handful of cases, killed them.
Yes, Shido gave him the gun, but Goro pulled the trigger. And in a restorative justice framework, you don’t bypass that fact: you actively interrogate it.
There’s been a lot of really great meta about what the circumstances of Goro’s life were like, including the Japanese foster care system, the social stigma of bastardy in Japan and the impact it has on an illegitimate child’s outcomes, and the ways in which Shido groomed and manipulated Goro into being the tool of violence he made him into. These things aren’t excuses for what Goro does, however: they’re explanations for it. They are the complex social issues that create a situation where a child feels his best choice, indeed maybe his only choice, is to take the gun being offered to him and use it on other people. If you want to prevent more kids from slipping through cracks into those kinds of situations, you need to understand the social ills that made those cracks appear in the first place and you need to fix them. Otherwise there will always be another kid, and another recruiter, and another bad choice, and another gun. Systemic problems require systemic solutions.
Even so, none of that bypasses the fact that it was Goro’s hand on that gun, that it was Goro who performed the physical action of killing Wakaba’s and Okumura’s shadows, and that, as a result of Goro’s direct actions, Wakaba and Okumura died. You can say Okumura deserved it all you like, but Haru doesn’t deserve to be an orphan. Haru deserved to repair her relationship with her father. Okumura deserved the chance to learn and make direct, material amends to the employees he hurt and the families of those who died on his watch, and they deserved to have him give them a better way to heal.
But this isn’t about the loss of Okumura making amends to his family or his victims: this is about Goro Akechi, and the fact that even in Royal his fraught relationship with Haru and Futaba is never explored, barely even addressed. There’s not even any personal, direct acknowledgement from him of the pain he put them through.
You can say he doesn’t care, and that’s fine that he doesn’t care. And it is. He’s a fictional character, this is a video game, they are anime characters.
But Persona 5 flirts with the idea of restorative justice and never fully explores it, and it’s a weaker game for that.
the thin place, the veil between worlds, the line in the sand
This is the last part, I promise, and I’ll be short and brief here, because the truth is that none of this matters, at least not in the way that you think. Persona 5 is a story. It’s a lie that we buy. It’s all zeroes and ones and electrical signals and optical images on a blank black screen.
But art can be powerful. Art is like magic, the deepest magic, the oldest kind. We human beings are creatures of art and poetry, of images and patterns, of music and words. Good art, really good art, can allow us to explore new ideas and critique our internal assumptions about how the world works.
No, fiction doesn’t affect reality, not the way that you think it does.
But if you’ve gotten this far, I just got you to read an essay on restorative justice and prison abolition in regards to a Japanese role-playing game, and that is something to think about.
How do you define rehabilitation? What kind of justice do you believe in? Is the way you conceive those things really the best way?
And how much more interesting could a story that challenges those concepts be?

I don't really have anything specific in mind, I'm actually kinda lost as to what to look for jkjsksjk I know I identify with some traits, like sensory issues and difficulty communicating (I do have a diagnosis of social phobia, though I've been thinking maybe autism would better explain other aspects of my life beyond social interaction). I've been reading some articles regarding late discovering of autism and mostly looking for experiences, so I can compare to my own. I feel like I should be looking for something else but I don't really know what? lmao I don't think that was really helpful, anything you can share would be good to me
This is a really long post so I'm going to put it under a read more to not clog up other people's feeds but I think the main areas to cover are:
- verbal communication issues
was your vocabulary/reading ever under/over developed as a child? Having a really advanced vocabulary is just as much a sign of autism as having delayed development in this area. Also, having a very hard to pin down accent, or taking on others' accents Really easily is common amongst autistic people. Do you ever have trouble speaking? I experience selective mutism and when I'm overwhelmed/stressed/upset I often find it hard to speak out loud and have to communicate through messages/notes, though when I'm not mute I'm very eloquent and have always had a vocabulary that was advanced, other kids found it hard to talk to me when I was younger bc they couldn't understand me, but equally comprehension/vocabulary can be delayed/compromised and you might find it hard to understand others because you struggle with that sort of thing yourself. Do you have issues with your tone of voice ever? I find that I can't read my own tone of voice or my volume, some things will come out really bitchy-sounding or angry-sounding and I won't be able to tell, or I might be shouting and not know it because it all sounds the same in my head really.
- sensory issues
do you have issues with certain types of sound? volume? quantity? volume doesn't bother me, but too many different sources of noise will send me into a meltdown so fast. Do you struggle with certain smells, bright lights, tastes, textures of food or of clothing, certain sensations, for example I get really stressed out by having wet skin/hair, and I can't stand the sound/feeling of something rubbing over carpet. I also find some tastes to be overwhelming. Under-sensitivity or processing issues can also be a symptom. Do you ever struggle to process reading/listening to something? I have absolutely awful retention for auditory information, I can't hold more than around 4-5 words in my mind at any one time, and I can't follow auditory instructions at all if there's more than one step, it needs to be written down. I also often struggle to read things because I don't process the words and they just look like meaningless letters on a page to me. I also really struggle to process my own thoughts and order them, I'm able to talk out loud but there are times where I can't write my thoughts without speaking them first because ordering my thoughts while they're still inside my head is very difficult. I also have an under-sensitive sense of smell and taste at times. I can't even smell when meat has gone bad and everyone else I know says it really stinks, and like I can't tell the difference between chicken gravy and onion gravy, for example, because they taste almost identical to me. And senses aren't just the basic five, either. Do you have a particularly high OR low pain threshold? interoception is the perception of bodily functions. Do you have trouble identifying/noticing when you're hungry/thirsty or when you need to go to the toilet e.g. you didn't need to go pee a minute ago but now you're Suddenly absolutely bursting to go because you didn't notice it earlier at all. Proprioception is your perception of your movements, balance and of where your limbs are in relation to your surroundings. Do you bump into things or fall over seemingly nothing a lot? Have you ever been told/noticed you move "strangely"? Do you ever walk sort of on your tiptoes or toes-first rather than heels-first?
- social issues
do you have trouble reading body language? facial expressions? figurative language? tone of voice? not every autistic person will experience all of the above, I know people who can't read body language but can read tone of voice, or can't read figurative language but can read facial expressions, etc. etc. Personally I struggle with tone of voice a lot, I can't tell when people are being serious or not, or whether they're upset or not, tone of voice doesn't really tell me anything about how they're feeling of what they mean. Figurative language varies, I understand metaphors and I often understand sarcasm, although I won't get it if it's too deadpan, and I sometimes miss hyperbole and think people are being serious. I also can't tell whether people are teasing me or genuinely being mean the vast majority of the time. I tend to rely on speech patterns and word choice a lot to understand people, personally. I pick up on what sorts of words they use in what moods and use that largely to inform my interpretations of their current mood based on the words they're choosing. Do you ever struggle understanding what is/isn't socially appropriate? I overshare a lot bc I don't rlly understand what is "too much information" and what isn't, and I also don't understand really how to treat people differently based on their "social role", like I treat someone like a friend regardless of whether they're a stranger, a classmate, a friend, a family member, a colleague, a boss, a teacher, etc.
- need for routine/dislike of sudden/significant change
this isn't always as clear as like needing an entire day to be a routine, it can be little things. I'll give some examples: I have to brush my teeth in a specific way - I count the number of passes of the brush over each section of my teeth, I have to eat a sandwich in a specific order of bites, many food places I will order the same thing every/nearly every time and I will eat that order in the same way, I wash my body/hair in a certain way/order in the shower every time, sometimes I get weirdly obsessed with symmetry and I have to walk in a certain way and if I step "wrong" I have to hop around on one leg until I feel "balanced" again, I have to do my daily tasks on genshin impact in a certain order, etc. etc. I could probably think of more if I tried. I will often get distressed/overwhelmed/upset if any of these "routines" are disrupted somehow. My original method of eating a sandwich applied to when they're cut across into rectangles, so I used to hate eating triangle sandwiches because I couldn't eat them "correctly" until I figured out a similar way to eat triangle sandwiches, and now I Have to eat them in that way because it's "correct" and I'll feel uncomfortable otherwise. Note that this isn't like OCD because it's not anxiety-based, it's based on the fact that it feels like the "correct" way to do it, and that any other way is simply "wrong" and you don't like doing it "wrong". The need for routine and dislike of change might also manifest in needing to plan things ahead days in advance, you also might be like me and be very capable of impulsively doing things like going out if You decide to do it, but if someone Else suggests it, then you need the preparation time. - stimming/special interests
stimming can be honestly anything. I tap my foot, I sing, I have a whole folder names "stim games" on my phone, I type, I eat, I chew gum, I flap my arms, I scratch fabrics, I smell blankets/clothing. Stimming just means self-stimulation and is absolutely any repeated action that you find soothing/cathartic in any way. Under here I'm also going to mention samefoods: foods that you feel comfortable eating even when you don't feel comfortable eating anything else. Like if too much flavour/smell/texture feels overwhelming, most autistic people will have food/s that aren't at all stressful to eat and they can default to at those times. Mine is a specific brand of chicken nuggets, I'll often fall back on those when eating anything else feels overwhelming but I need to eat Something, and I can usually handle those when I can't handle other things.
as for special interests, they are anything that you're kind of obsessed with. You can have multiple, they can change over your life, but your interest tends to go much deeper than that of a neurotypical person's and you feel a need to know everything about it and struggle to hold conversations about other topics because it kind of just takes over your brain. when I was younger some of my special interests were final fantasy, anime, hello kitty, languages/linguistics has always been a special interest of mine, kpop is definitely one, astrology is also for sure one. I fall in and out of being obsessed enough with genshin to call it a special interest. I had a friend in highschool whose special interest was the periodic table, for a while they were obsessed with the 8 times table, and then it became dinosaurs. My little brother is autistic and his special interest has always been video games, he's really interested in retro games, he loves Minecraft and Mario too, when he was younger it was ben 10 for a while, there was also a period where all he wanted to do as a kid was rewatch the cars movies. Media likes to portray special interests as being academic but they can truly be absolutely anything. A desire to know absolutely everything about trains or flowers or kpop is just as much a special interest as neurology or maths or physics or smth like that.
Another thing I've just thought of to be noted, is hygiene:
some autistic people might appear to have borderline OCD tendencies where they can't handle dirt/mess and need everything to be tidy/clean all the time. This is definitely one of the stereotypes. But struggling with hygiene is just as much a symptom of autism. If you struggle to remember to shower/wash hands/brush teeth/do laundry/etc. that could well be an autism symptom. I found out I'm sensitive to mint and especially to toothpaste, it makes my mouth feel like it's burning and like I'll actually cry if it touches my tongue bc it hurts that much lmao. I discovered a toothpaste that's unflavoured and doesn't foam up and now I can brush my teeth without pain but for a long time I struggled with consistently brushing teeth bc of that. I also struggle with showering bc of being stressed out by wet hair/skin. Sometimes it's also a memory thing, and I forget to do these things. I also absolutely suck at keeping my room clean, idk why I just Really Can't lmaoooooo
I'm certain there are things I haven't covered, these are mostly pulling from my own experiences of autism from myself and those around me. All of this might apply to you, it might not, but I hope it makes sense and has given you a good starting point of things to examine within yourself and questions to ask yourself <3 I wish you well bub and please always feel free to ask more questions and/or talk to me more about your experiences <3

Hello sex witch! I have a question: is it okay to only be able to have clitoral orgasms? I've watched all these tutorial on how to have vaginal orgasms/find your G spot but it just doesn't work for me. So is it okay to reach orgasms via clitoral stimulation during sex and still have penetrative sex to please your partner?
oh, jeez, anon. I’m about to use a lot of effects for emphasis, and I don’t want you to think it’s because I’m mad at you, alright? I’m absolutely not. I just really need to convey the vehemence of my feelings here, and there are only so many ways I can do that via textual internet communication.
okay, here goes. ready?
it’s okay to have orgasms however you like to have orgasms. full stop.
okay, did I say that forcefully enough? great. now let’s unpack it a little more.
first off, while I would never say that being ‘statistically average’ is important in matters of sex, you very much are. the vast, vast majority of people with vaginas and clits don’t receive full sexual pleasure from penetration alone. the exact number of people who receive more pleasure from clitoral stimulation varies depending on the survey, but tends to fall somewhere between 50 and 75 percent, so suffice to say you’re in good company here.
there’s a great biological reason for that, which is that your vagina frankly isn’t built to be sensitive to stimulation the way the clitoris is. the clitoris is jam-packed with about 8000 nerve endings designed to enjoy ever touch, and its only job is to notice when something is happening that feels really good. the vagina does a ton of really cool and impressive stuff, but “most sensitive organ in the body” is not on its list of accomplishments.
“but Makenzie,” you’re saying, “what about the g-spot?”
right off the bat, it must needs be said that nothing is for everybody. sure, some people love vaginal sex. and some people will swear on the tender baby Jesus that the g-spot is real and they’ve experienced its wonders personally. I don’t doubt them, but I also don’t think that means everyone is going to have the same experience.
also, while the people who study this kind of thing professionally aren’t 100% in agreement about what exactly the g-spot is, there’s a lot of speculation that it’s actually just an internal portion of the clitoris (yep, that’s right, the external part of the clitoris is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg) being stimulated through the vaginal wall. so... maybe even vaginal orgasms are actually clitoral orgasms? maybe THAT’S what Eve Ensler was talking about when she referenced combo clit-vag orgasms in The Woman Who Liked To Make Vaginas Happy?
but while it’s interesting to speculate, I really need to emphasize this: at the end of the day, I don’t care why some people enjoy specific things so much they have an orgasm about it. we like what we like, desire is messy and difficult to unpack, and as long as what gets you off isn’t causing anybody any pain they didn’t consent to, there’s nothing wrong with you or what you’re into - and that most certainly includes a penchant for clitoral orgasms over their penetrative counterparts.
so why is there such a fuss about vaginal orgasms and the importance of having one of those instead of a clitoral orgasm? like many things, we can probably place a hefty dose of blame on old Sigmund Freud, who believed that clitoral orgasms were a mark of immaturity and that respectable, mature ladies needed to grow up and learn how to have vaginal orgasms. (wrong on many levels, and cissexist to boot.) it’s also worth pointing out that the sexual scripts for cisgender, heterosexual couples largely revolve around penetration and the male orgasm, with many things that could actually help a vagina-having partner orgasm relegated to “foreplay” and considered optional.
(foreplay is a lie, kids. it’s all sex.)
luckily you’re a smart, savvy anon, and you know what you like. if what you like is having clitoral orgasms and then doing some penetration for your partner’s sake, that’s a-okay. if you want to just have the clitoral orgasm and then not be penetrated at all, that’s also grand. (note that “grand” doesn’t necessarily mean “the right fit for every partner”; you are allowed to like what you like, and so are they, and it may take some trial and error to find someone whose likes fit with yours.) having sex is about doing what you like, my peep, and as long as you’re staying safe and consensual you cannot go wrong.

I’m starting grad school this autumn and honestly I’m getting nervous. Like yes I am v excited about the whole prospect overall and I do miss being a student but am intimidated by 3 hr long seminars and thesis writing and massive amounts of reading… everyone keeps saying it’s gonna be very different from undergrad so okay, but how specifically? Is it the large amounts of reading? I already had insane amounts of reading (humanities degree hurrah) especially in my last two years but could you expound on your own experience and how you take notes/read quickly/summarize or just how to deal with first time grad students?
Oh, yeah for sure! A necessary disclaimer here is that I'm at a certain poncy English institution that is noted for being very bad at communicating with its students and very bad at treating its postgrad students like human beings, so a lot of these strategies I've picked up will be overkill for anyone who has the good sense to go somewhere not profoundly evil lol.
So I'll just preface this by saying that I am a very poor student in terms of doing what you're supposed to. I'm very bad at taking notes, I never learned how to do it properly, and I really, really struggle with reading dense literature. That said, I'm probably (hopefully?) going to get through this dumb degree just fine. Also — my programme is a research MPhil, not taught, so it's a teensy bit more airy-fairy in terms of structure. I had two classes in Michaelmas term, both were once a week for two hours each; two in Lent, one was two hours weekly, the other two hours biweekly; and no classes at all in Easter. I also have no exam component, I was/am assessed entirely on three essays (accounting for 30% of my overall mark) and my dissertation (the remaining 70%), which is, I think, a little different to how some other programmes are. I think even some of the other MPhils here are more strenuous than that, like Econ and Soc Hist is like 100% dissertation? Anyways, not super important, but knowing what you're getting marked on is important. I dedicated considerably less time than I did in undergrad to perfecting my coursework essays because they just don't hold as much weight now. The difference between a 68 and a 70 just wasn't worth the fuss for me, which helped keep me sane-ish.
The best advice anyone ever gave me was that, whereas an undergrad degree can kind of take over your life without it becoming a problem, you need to treat grad school like a job. That's not because it's more 'serious' or whatever, but because if you don't set a really strict schedule and keep to it, you'll burn yourself out and generally make your life miserable. Before I went back on my ADD meds at the end of Michaelmas term, I sat myself down at my desk and worked from 11sh to 1800ish every day. Now that I'm medicated, I do like 9:30-10ish to 1800-1900 (except for now that I'm crunching on my diss, where, because of my piss-poor time management skills I'm stuck doing, like, 9:30-22:30-23:00). If you do M-F 9-5, you'll be getting through an enormous amount of work and leaving yourself loads of time to still be a human being on the edges. That'll be the difference between becoming a postgrad zombie and a person who did postgrad. I am a postgrad zombie. You do not want to be like me.
The 'work' element of your days can really vary. It's not like I was actually consistently reading for all that time — my brain would have literally melted right out of my ears — but it was about setting the routine and the expectation of dedicating a certain, consistent and routinized period of time for focusing on the degree work every day. My attention span, even when I'm medicated, is garbage, so I would usually read for two or three hours, then either work on the more practical elements of essay planning, answer emails, or plot out the early stages of my research.
In the first term/semester/whatever, lots of people who are planning on going right into a PhD take the time to set up their applications and proposals. I fully intended on doing a PhD right after the MPhil, but the funding as an international student trying to deal with the pandemic proved super problematic, and I realised that the toll it was taking on my mental health was just so not worth it, so I've chosen to postpone a few years. You'll feel a big ol' amount of pressure to go into a PhD during your first time. Unless you're super committed to doing it, just try and tune it out as much as you can. There's absolutely nothing wrong with taking a year (or two, or three, or ten) out, especially given the insane conditions we're all operating under right now.
I'll be honest with you, I was a phenomenally lazy undergrad. It was only by the grace of god and being a hard-headed Marxist that I managed to pull out a first at the eleventh hour. So the difference between UG and PG has been quite stark for me. I've actually had to do the reading this year, not just because they're more specialised and relevant to my research or whatever, but because, unlike in UG, the people in the programme are here because they're genuinely interested (and not because it's an economic necessity) and they don't want to waste their time listening to people who haven't done the reading.
I am also a really bad reader. Maybe it's partially the ADD + dyslexia, but mostly it's because I just haven't practiced it and never put in the requisite effort to learn how to do it properly. My two big pointers here are learning how to skim, and learning how to prioritise your reading.
This OpenU primer on skimming is a bit condescending in its simplicity, but it gets the point across well. You're going to want to skim oh, say, 90% of the reading you're assigned. This is not me encouraging you to be lazy, it's me being honest. Not every word of every published article or book is worth reading. The vast majority of them aren't. That doesn't mean the things that those texts are arguing for aren't worth reading, it just means that every stupid rhetorical flourish included by bored academics hoping for job security and/or funding and/or awards isn't worth your precious and scarce time. Make sure you get the main thrust of each text, make sure you pull out and note down one or two case studies and move right the hell on. There will be some authors whose writing will be excellent, and who you will want to read all of. Everything else gets skimmed.
Prioritisation is the other big thing. You're going to have shitty weeks, you're probably going to have lots of them. First off, you're going to need to forgive yourself for those now — everybody has them, yes, even the people who graduated with distinctions and go on to get lovely £100,000 AHRC scholarships. Acknowledge that there will be horrible weeks, accept it now, and then strategise for how to get ahead of them. My personal strategy is to plan out what I'm trying to get out of each course I take, and then focus only on the readings that relate to that topic.
I took a course in Lent term that dealt with race and empire in Britain between 1607 and 1900; I'm a researcher of the Scottish far left from 1968-present, so the overlap wasn't significant. But I decided from the very first day of the course that I was there to get a better grasp about the racial theories of capitalism and the role of racial othering in Britain's subjugation of Ireland. Those things are helpful to me because white supremacist capitalism comes up hourly in my work on the far left, and because the relationship of the Scottish far left to Ireland is extremely important to its self definition. On weeks when I couldn't handle anything else, I just read the texts related to that. And it was fine, I did fine, I got my stupid 2:1 on the final essay, and I came out of it not too burnt out to work on my dissertation.
Here is where I encourage you to learn from my mistakes: get yourself a decent group of people who you can have in depth conversations about the material with. I was an asshole who decided I didn't need to do that with any posh C*mbr*dge twats, and I have now condemned myself to babbling incomprehensible nonsense at my partner because I don't have anyone on my course to work through my ideas with. These degrees are best experienced when they're experienced socially. In recent years (accelerated by the pandemic, ofc), universities have de-emphasised the social component of postgrad work, largely to do with stupid, long-winded stuff related to postgrad union organising etc. It's a real shame because postgrads end up feeling quite socially isolated, and because they're not having these fun and challenging conversations, their work actually suffers in the long term. This is, and I cannot stress this enough, the biggest departure from undergrad. Even the 'weak links' or whatever judgemental nonsense are there because they want to be. That is going to be your biggest asset. Talk, talk, talk. Listen, listen, listen. Offer to proofread people's papers so you get a sense of how people are thinking about things, what sort of style they're writing in, what sources they're referring to. Be a sponge and a copycat (but don't get done for plagiarism, copy like this.) Also: ask questions that seem dumb. For each of your classes, ask your tutors/lecturers who they think the most important names in their discipline are. It sounds silly, but it's really helpful to know the intellectual landscape you're dealing with, and it means you know whose work you can go running to if you get lost or tangled up during essay or dissertation writing!
You should also be really honest about everything — another piece of advice that I didn't follow and am now suffering for. The people on your courses and in your cohort are there for the same reasons as you, have more or less the same qualifications as you, and are probably going to have a lot of the same questions and insecurities as you. If you hear an unfamiliar term being used in a seminar, just speak up and ask about it, because there're going to be loads of other people wondering too. But you should also cultivate quite a transparent relationship with your supervisor. I was really cagey and guarded with mine because my hella imposter syndrome told me she was gonna throw my ass out of the programme if I admitted to my problems. Turns out no, she wouldn't, and that actually she's been a super good advocate for me. If you feel your motivation slipping or if you feel like you're facing challenges you could do with a little extra support on, go right to your supervisor. Not only is that what they're there to do, they've also done this exact experience before and are going to be way more sympathetic and aware of the realities of it than, say, the uni counselling service or whatever.
Yeah so I gotta circle back to the notes thing... I really do not take notes. It's my worst habit. Here's an example of the notes I took for my most recent meeting with my supervisor (revising a chapter draft).
Tumblr media
No sane person would ever look at these and think this is a system worth replicating lol. But the reason they work for me is because I also record (with permission) absolutely everything. My mobile is like 90% audio recordings of meetings and seminars lol. So these notes aren't 'good' notes, but they're effective for recalling major points in the audio recording so I can listen to what was said when I need to.
Sorry none of this is remotely organised because it's like 2330 here and my brain is so soft and mushy. I'm literally just writing things as I remember them.
Right, so: theory is a big thing. Lots of people cheap out on this and it's to their own detriment. You say you're doing humanities, and tbh, most of the theory involved on the humanities side of the bridge is interdisciplinary anyways, so I'm just gonna give you some recommendations. The big thing is to read these things and try to apply them to what you're writing about. This sounds so fucking condescending but getting, like, one or two good theoretical frameworks in your papers will actually put you leaps and bounds beyond the students around you and really improve your research when the time comes. Also: don't read any of these recommendations without first watching, like an intro youtube video or listening to a podcast. The purists will tell you that's the wrong way to do it, but I am a lazy person and lazy people always find the efficient ways to do things, so I will tell the purists to go right to hell.
Check out these impenetrable motherfuckers (just one or two will take your work from great to excellent, so don't feel obliged to dig into them all):
Karl Marx and Fredrich Engels (I'm not just pushing my politics, but also, I totally am) — don't fucking read Capital unless you're committed to it. Oh my god don't put yourself through that unless you really have to. Try, like, the 18th Brumaire of Louis Napoleon for the fun quotes, and Engels on the family.
Frantz Fanon — Wretched of the Earth. Black Skin White Masks also good, slightly more impossible to read
Benedict Anderson — Imagined Communities. It's about nationalism, but you will be surprised at how applicable it is to... so many other topics
Judith Butler — she really sucks to read. I love her. But she sucks to read. If you do manage to read her though, your profs will love you because like 90% of the people who say they've read her are lying
Bourdieu — Distinction is good for a lot of things, but especially for introducing the idea of social and cultural capital. There's basically no humanities sub-discipline that can't run for miles on that alone.
Crenshaw — the genesis of intersectionality. But, like, actually read her, not the ingrates who came after her and defanged intersectionality into, like, rainbow bombs dropped over Gaza.
The other thing is that you should read for fun. My programme director was absolutely insistent that we all continue to read for pleasure while we did this degree, not just because it's good for destressing, but because keeping your cultural horizons open actually makes your writing better and more interesting. I literally read LOTR for the first time in, like February, and the difference in my writing and thinking from before and after is tangible, because not only did it give me something fun to think about when I was getting stressy, but it also opened up lots of fun avenues for thought that weren't there before. I read LOTR and wanted to find out more about English Catholics in WWI, and lo and behold something I read about it totally changed how I did my dissertation work. Or, like, a girl on my course who read the Odyssey over Christmas Break and then started asking loads of questions about the role of narrative creation in the archival material she was using. It was seriously such a good edict from our director.
Also, oh my god, if you do nothing else, please take this bit seriously: forgive yourself for the bad days. The pressure in postgrad is fucking unreal. Nobody, nobody is operating at 100% 100% of the time. If you aim for 60% for 80% of the time and only actually achieve 40% for 60% of the time, you will still be doing really fucking well. Don't beat yourself up unnecessarily. Don't make yourself feel bad because you're not churning out publishable material every single day. Some days you just need to lie on the couch, order takeout, and watch 12 hours of Jeopardy or whatever, and I promise you that that is a good and worthwhile thing to do. You don't learn and grow without rest, so forgive yourself for the moments and days of unplanned rest, and forgive yourself for when you don't score as highly as you want to, and forgive yourself when you say stupid things in class or don't do all of (or any of) the class reading.
Uhhhh I think I'm starting to lose the plot a bit now. Honestly, just ping me whatever questions you have and I'm happy to answer them. There's a chance I'll be slower to respond over the next few days because my dissertation is due in a week (holy fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) but I will definitely respond. And honestly, no question is too dumb lol. I wish I'd been able to ask someone about things like what citation management software is best or how to set up a desk for maximum efficiency or whatever, but I was a scaredy-cat about it and didn't. So yeah, ask away and I will totally answer.

Brain Training for Dogs
As dog parents, we are well aware of the importance of nutrition and exercise for our dogs. We make special efforts to ensure our beloved pets remain healthy and happy. But many of us often forget that there is more to exercising our dogs than just a physical workout.
We must provide our dogs with the required mental exercise in addition to their physical exercise. Providing your dog with mental stimulation and exercise enhances their IQ potential while also resulting in skill-building and relationship building.
Several methods can be used to stimulate and exercise your dog’s mind. One of the most popular is Brain Training for Dogs by Adrienne Faricelli. This program helps you “develop your dog’s hidden intelligence, to eliminate bad behavior, and create an obedient and well-behaved pet”.
Get Brain Training for Dogs Here
Tumblr media
We will help you learn more about brain training for dogs and understand why it is important for your dog’s well-being and happiness. You will learn also about Adrienne Faricelli and her Brain Training for Dogs program.
We will also walk you through the various modules of this program so you know exactly what you are getting and cover any possible challenges you might face in implementing them.
We will also address some common questions regarding the Brain Training for Dogs program and provide our honest, unbiased, and uncensored review of it.
The Importance of Exercise for Your Dog
xercise is important in maintaining muscles, bones, joints, mood, and the overall health and well-being of your dog. Dogs that get enough quality exercise daily tend to look good, feel good, and live longer. Exercise helps work off excess energy in dogs so that they can act more quietly at home.
Exercise is not only a vital physical aspect of your dog but also a mental stimulation for them. It also includes brain training, teaching tricks, and obedience training.
For your dog to learn something new, it should take repetitive training and practice.
Make sure your dog is part of the daily flow of life in your home so that it doesn’t become isolated. Be sure to leave a couple of toys in their crate to play with when they are alone. Dogs also love to search and find things. You can hide a toy or food item you want them to find in the yard and keep them busy for a long time.
Simple tips like these are already a form of mental stimulation since your dog can engage with you and the world around them.
Advantages of Brain Training for Your Dog
The science of canine cognition studies how dogs think. Research in this field has found that each dog is different, and their cognitive abilities vary. This means that, like us humans, your dog could be a genius in a particular field but sometimes struggles with another.
Maybe he is great at understanding remembering and responding to commands but has a surprisingly difficult time navigating his way back home from the park despite it being part of his routine. Understanding your dog’s mind and thinking process can help you to meet his intellectual needs.
Using brain training as a means of teaching your dog to use his mental skills and help him develop his intelligence is a simple and effective method to set him up for success every time.
Burning energy is not just about physical exercise! It’s more than walks, playing fetch, and running around the park. Although these are also essential, mental stimulation also plays a huge role.
Dogs need a combination of physical activity and mental stimulation which include a variety of ways to use their brains. Some dogs don’t get enough of either. Some dogs get one but not the other. Each dog’s needs will vary. The smarter your dog, the more mental stimulation they will need.
Various brain training techniques improve communication between you and your beloved pooch and increase his trust in you. This will make your relationship stronger than before, and even more beneficial for you.
They also help your dog grow more confident. Using brain training for your dog ensures that he is having fun and is involved in the training process. Confidence building is vital in socialization and adaptation to new environments.
A focus on positive reinforcement in brain training exercises helps to make the learning process smoother and more effective, often allowing for faster learning and more efficient results.
                                    Meet Adrienne Faricelli
Adrienne’s force-free training is based on scientific studies with kindness in mind. Force-free training entails using positive feedback that will enable your dog to perform the behavior again and again because they enjoy it.
In behaviorism, this is called the law of effect. Once a reinforcement is given, there is a high chance that the dog will do it again. If punishment is given, the dog will most likely stop performing a certain action.
However, force-free training does not include punishment at all. This is because punishment only interrupts the learning process. It causes fear that they do not understand, mistrust, and their tendency to hide information.
Punishment does not provide information on what good behavior is. By punishing we tell dogs what we don’t want them to do, but not what we do want them to do. If we don’t allow a dog to try different things until he guesses the correct behavior they will not learn.
What’s in Brain Training for Dogs
The Brain Training for Dogs program is divided into a series of training guides. These include;
Obedience 101 Manual
Main Manual
7 Trick Training Videos
Polishing up your training
Adrienne’s Archives
Free Bonus Course – Behavior Training for Dogs
In addition to these, you can also submit questions directly to Adrienne and access her vast knowledge and experience to find solutions to your doggie dilemmas.
There is access to a wide variety of case studies, troubleshooting sections dealing for with specific issues during your training process, an around the clock support center you can contact for help, and access to a private forum to interact with like-minded dog parents.
Faricelli’s method is always central to positive reinforcement with rewards during training. According to her, it boosts the canine-human bond and sets your dog up for success. Her style is also suitable for puppies and adult dogs alike, as well as senior pooches!
As previously mentioned, both physical and mental stimulation are vital to maintain our furry friend’s overall health and well-being. Thankfully, Adrienne’s method covers both types of stimulation and will surely challenge your dog.

Why is it so critical to build an email list?
Tumblr media
Do you find it difficult to convince your clients or your employer of the importance and feasibility of email marketing?
Even if you understand how persuasive it is, with web-based media highlighting, development hacking, and the vast variety of different common phrases out there, persuading others can be difficult at times.
Email advertising is one of the essential drivers of traffic to this blog and the primary way we speak with our clients.
We reached out to a few of our friends (who turned out to be marketing experts) and asked them to share some of their experiences of how they've used their email lists to grow their businesses and why they're so relevant.
What is the definition of an email list?
An email list is a collection of messages gathered from visitors/clients who may be interested in receiving information, updates, limits, and other insights about your company.
Email records are important because email marketing is the most effective way to connect with customers as compared to other forms of online media. To be honest, you're 6x more likely to get higher navigate rates from messages than from tweets. Similarly, email is far more effective than Facebook or Twitter at attracting new customers.
What is the definition of email list building?
To take advantage of interacting with clients via your incorporated email records, you'll need to work on building an email list.
Building an email list is a demonstration of getting more people to subscribe to your messages. If your landing page has a call to action, that can be used to grow your email list. The more ways you can persuade people to subscribe to your email, the more solid your email list will be.
How would you go about building an email list?
When building an email list, there are a few steps you should follow, which we'll go over in detail below. As previously stated, you must provide guests with more options for subscribing to your email. You can do this in a variety of ways, including:
On each greeting page of your website, use CTAs to entice visitors to buy in.

Images that appear or slide into place across the entirety of your points of arrival
Studies that are planned to spring up while guests are perusing
Use your social media accounts to promote your email bulletin.
Show what guests will miss out on if they sign up for your email list.
Here are a few examples of how companies invite visitors to subscribe to their email lists through their websites and social media accounts:
The most reliable way to handle and update your email list
It's important to keep your email records organized if you want to have a successful email crusade. If you have a large number of email subscribers on your mailing list who aren't opening your messages, your open rate will be poor, which will skew your performance.
Use the following strategies to keep your rundowns in order:
Separation
Division is a method of isolating email records based on personalized preferences. When email supporters went after your email records, you might have prompted them to ask a few questions
As per a new email showcasing research, sectioned messages drive multiple times more income than more general messages.
You can segment their messages based on any personalized information they provided. The following are a few examples of sectioned email records:
Client socioeconomic variables, such as geographic location, age, and sexual orientation
Limits, occasion nuances, and bulletins — client email notification preferences
History can be purchased.
Examine the data in your email list.
Almost all endorsers do on their email is tracked.
You can monitor whether or not clients navigate the links in the email you sent them. In the unlikely event that
it is more likely that they will open your email. It's possible that they'll follow your email if they've communicated with it in any way.

To build a viable and efficient email list and cook your messages to those investigations, keep a close eye on your email list details.
Reconnect with old acquaintances.
Send a re-commitment email to your latent supporters if you see a large number of them in your email list details. It's possible they just needed a break from your messages but aren't looking to stop completely.
Indeed, research shows that reconnecting with old contacts costs about half as much as converting new visitors to email list endorsers.
When we send out another mission, piece of material, or item highlight, email advertising consistently generates 80-90 percent of the traffic to our presentation page. Email helps us to reach out to our audience in a special, personalized way that blog posts and tweets cannot.
We've been building our email list even before we built our item, and it'll continue to be a top priority for Marketing until Google Telepathy arrives.
Email provides advertisers with a creative forum to show that we understand a prospect's problem, that we can have a solution, and that we can do so in a professional manner. Since each email is an opportunity to identify with your leads and demonstrate that you're relevant, our team often reworks messages and autoresponders multiple times to get the phrasing just right."
"Building an email list is critical because it is the most effective way to develop a close relationship with potential clients. You aren't just a public service announcement.
that is there and gone; you're directly in somebody's inbox, where they get other significant correspondence from their work, family, and companions.
Messages stand by in somebody's inbox until they're perused, and when you compose truly helpful messages individuals may allude to them more than once, on the grounds that messages are effectively accessible, as well.
Individuals burn via email in a different way than they do other media, and it now translates to deals faster than other mediums. The more people on your mailing list you have, the more people can see your promotional messages, and every time I send an email, I see an increase in sales.
Furthermore, when you write a text, it is "yours" – you don't have to be worried about a third party changing the rules on you. In comparison, a free service like Facebook might opt to limit your contact with your fans in order to convince advertisers to pay for ads, but you don't have these limits when someone has given you permission to send them valuable messages."
"There are a variety of reasons why compiling a list is important, but I'll focus on one that is well-known right now: Reach.
Today, you're on your way to reaching a norm of 1-2 percent of your Facebook fans, just as a small percentage of your Twitter followers sees one explicit Tweet.
Email isn't ideal either; according to reports, 22% of messages sent end up in the trash or spam files, or are blocked by ISPs. However, this leaves you with a typical message delivery rate of 78 percent.
Your message's life expectancy will be determined by your beneficiary by then, and your email will remain in the Inbox as "uninitiated" before it is remembered.
This explains why you're still getting clicks a few days after you've sent the mission. On the other hand, the lifetime of an online media post can vary from a few hours to a few minutes.
Email is, by far, the most effective means of communication between your image and its audience (or the vast majority of it)."
Finish up
If there is one thing that industry, content, and conversion rate experts all agree on, it is the importance of creating an email list. Don't be the entrepreneur who misses out on attracting new customers, growing your company, and protecting yourself from changes in search and social calculations. Don't be the entrepreneur who regrets not structuring your email list earlier because you didn't use enough email building techniques.
Have you been working on increasing and managing your email list? In certain instances, automating tasks is more convenient, and you can do the same for texts. Consider these ideas for computerized work processes to keep the supporters engaged.

Dear World, From America
Published JANUARY 28, 2017 |  JOHN PAVLOVITZ | Posted January 08, 2020 |
Dear World,
We felt we needed to say something while saying something is still allowed.
We know many of you have lived under malevolent, unhinged dictators before, but this is new for us. For its history our nation has been led by men and women who, despite their varying flaws and deficiencies, some of which were quite disturbing—were by and large, normal human beings.Whatever darkness in them, they had at the very least, a baseline of humanity and decency that more often than not insured rational behavior.
This man is not normal.
He is unstable, malignant, devoid of integrity—and he does not speak for us.
Please understand that nearly three million more people voted for his opponent Hillary Clinton than for him. (Yes, we realize this is completely screwed-up). Millions more voted for other candidates, and sadly nearly 90 million of our people did not vote at all. The point is, the vast majority of Americans are not with him. He does not speak for us. His America is not our America.
Over the past few months, we’ve watched long erected pillars of our Republic bulldozed in the stroke of a madman’s pen. We’ve seen the very hallmarks of who we are as a nation tossed in the garbage; the celebration of diverse coexistence, the open welcome to the oppressed, the guarantee of unalienable rights for every person, the same access to health and opportunity and safety afforded to everyone, the freedom to speak without censor or restraint. At this moment these are all in great jeopardy.
Things we took for granted in our leadership: things like goodness, wisdom, and basic truthfulness are no longer in play, and as things are eroding quickly we wanted to let you know that we’re sorry.
We’re sorry that our apathy and laziness have yielded such a reckless, impulsive, small man to steward this nation.
We’re sorry for the jagged, bitter ugliness that is characterizing us in these moments.
We’re sorry to those suffering greatly, who have braved such peril to seek refuge here and who’ve now been turned away based on the faith they profess.
We’re sorry to our Mexican neighbors who’ve been fashioned into convenient villains to justify erecting a grandiose, wasteful display of false protection that we do not want.
We’re sorry to Muslims everywhere who’ve been used as pawns to generate irrational fear among those already susceptible to bigotry and discrimination.
We’re sorry to the leaders of the world, who instead of being met by level-headed, measured, intelligent dialogue, are now greeted with the social media rantings of a furious man-child.
We’re sorry to those who now experience the Christian faith as a racist, Nationalistic bully pulpit wielded with malice toward the very diverse Humanity Jesus lived and died for.
We’re sorry to people everywhere whose lives are now more tenuous, more violent, less safe, less secure than they had been before.
We want you to know that this is not who we are. It may be who this man is. It may be who those sharing power with him are. It may even be the tens of millions who originally voted for him (though that support is vanishing quickly among those who are not among the religious zealots and extremists).
But this is not America. It is not the steady, strong beacon of freedom that it was intended to be. It is not the America our people have fought and died for. It is not the one first formed in the crucible of oppression and cast into the words of our ever-disregarded Constitution.
This is not our America. Our America affirms the inherent, priceless beauty of every human being. Our America declares that no person is ascribed less value because of their skin color, religion, gender, financial means, sexual orientation, nation of origin, or any other variable. Our America is home for those seeking hope and joy and rest.
And we are going to fight for this America.Through political channels and through grassroots activism, through the use of our Press and of our personal voices, we’re going to expose this man’s incompetence, call out his heart sickness, and condemn every violent, reckless, vicious act when it does not reflect our hearts and our will. Please do your best to disregard anything that comes from his mouth or those loudly and continually parroting his propaganda. They have proven themselves mortally allergic to the truth.
And we hope that in whatever way you can, that you will stand with us. We know that we have made this mess ourselves. We understand that you have your own problems to contend with, some far more urgent and pressing than this, but we believe that we are a single community; that we are tethered together in our Humanity, that we are in real-time crafting the life our children and their children will inherit.
Dear World, we’re sorry and we hope you’ll endure these days with us.
With despair and hope in equal measure, in peace and unity with you,
The American Majority

War is not something we enter into flippantly; not a showy public exchange for the sole purpose of making small, insecure men feel big and strong.
It is not something we threaten to feel the cheap aphrodisiac of stranger's retweets.

Because World War is Not A Twitter War, Donald
By AUGUST 9, 2017 |  JOHN PAVLOVITZ

Texting is easy.
My children can do it (in fact, far faster than I can.)
It’s an effortless thing to toss out 280-character salvos at people we disagree with, to drop mic drop bombs on strangers, to unload rapid fire violence from behind the safety of touch screens.
Every one of us understands the ease at which our words, carelessly dispensed in a moment of anger or frustration or fear—can be terribly destructive. We’ve all lost our heads for a moment and found ourselves stepping into the minefields of our own hubris and impulsivity while all hell broke loose around us. We’ve all reached that place of knowing that we had to either retreat and fallback, or press ahead into the mess we’ve made—reputation and collateral damage be damned. We’ll all have to look back and realize we’d been irresponsible with the technology in our hands and grieved our stupidity.
Fortunately, most of us will never lead nations.
Our reckless words sent out in haste may emotionally wound people and it may lay waste to relationships—but people likely won’t actually die. They won’t find themselves crammed into stifling military vehicles on foreign soil, or launching nuclear warheads at strangers thousands of miles away or laying in hospital beds with burns, simply because we weren’t mature or wise enough to step away from our phones when conflict invited us in.
And even if we were blessed with the awesome responsibility to lead a nation, most of us would find a humility and restraint that we hadn’t possessed before. We’d become a more honorable version of ourselves. We would grow into the lofty position. We’d respond differently than we had before to taunt and threat, because we’d understand the gravity of our words.
That’s because War is not a Twitter War—and decent, rational human beings know that.
War is not something we enter into flippantly. It isn’t something we run wildly into led by ego and bravado. It is not a showy public exchange for the sole purpose of making small, insecure men feel big and strong. It is not something we threaten only to feel the cheap aphrodisiac of stranger’s retweets.
War is brutal, bloody, vicious, family destroying, joy-depleting, History-altering, sickening stuff—and lots and lots of people die. It is rampant fear and gaping wounds and orphaned children and terrified parents. It should be an outcome honorable leaders do everything they can to avoid.
And world war should not be as easy to stumble into as a Twitter War. It should never be in the tiny hands of minuscule men, who have such little regard for the Office or the people they represent, that they would prize the momentary high of putting someone on blast, above the lives of millions of human beings.
Tweeting is not leading, and it’s time we stopped allowing the most powerful man in the Free World to behave in ways we’d find unacceptable for our teenagers. It’s time someone took the power from this easily baited man-child who is not capable or worthy of it.
America cannot be led into annihilation, death, and disaster, simply because our President wants to overcompensate for his emotional insecurities, his physical inadequacies, and to have his historically fragile ego virtually stroked.
And he’s not a human being worth risking the lives of our children over. Not my child. Not yours. Not a North Korean’s. Not a Russian’s. Not a Syrian’s. Not an Iranian’s.
Yeah, texting is easy.
Killing millions of people, shouldn’t be.

Austin, Texas                                                                         June 15, 2019
Well on to the crux of the argument; at least by installments….
Or so it seems, now if I can spew this out on a more regular basis we will be getting somewhere.  Now as previous noted I suspect rather than a purely chronological order that I will be bouncing around quite a bit.  Because no matter how I would try I would no doubt have to constantly go back and amend any attempt at some birth to present presentation.  Besides I am not sure I could make such an endeavor worthy of you the reader’s time.  Overall I consider the majority of Life to be boring to mundane at best; into which are punctuated moments and or events that go far beyond the pale of what could possibly be part of the norm of a conservative Life.  Understanding your time is immensely valuable let us begin….
Over the years whenever I have attempted to share some of the uniqueness of the events and the accompanying knowledge associated there to. Since for a long time within Popular Culture we enjoyed and endured the TV series “The X-files”.  Seeking context and relevance to our social experience, I have asked many a person if they were familiar with the series and if so.  I am sure you have noticed the poster above Mulder’s desk in the basement of the FBI’s headquarters.  The poster with a flying saucer between some trees. The caption on the poster reads “I want to Believe”.  Because of the popularity of the series this poster and that statement have become almost Iconic.  Well as a matter of fact a good friend of mine took that photograph.  His name was Paul Villa.  I meet and knew him while he lived in New Mexico, in a little town south of Albuquerque. He was a very genuine sort of individual, the kind of man that the statement “salt of the Earth” could be sincerely applied.  Her earn his daily bread as a fabricator or if you prefer as a wielder. Back in those days, this was in the ‘70’s, within the supposed community of the UFO Phenomena were individuals who were known as contactees.  Unlike the group commonly referred to as abductees, these persons via one means or another were contacted, approached and either as part of a short period of association or as part of an ongoing relationship would be involved in a dialogue or variety of ongoing communications with beings not associated with the human population on the surface of the Earth.  Paul was one such individual.  During those years I was fortunate enough to have met several such persons.  Most were if nothing else true believers; a few struck me as being at best misguided to being charlatans.  But of all these individuals Paul was the most genuine and sincere, a man of character.  He never tried to make a profit from his experiences nor did he ever feel comfortable being the center of attention.  The particular photograph used in the poster is actually one of a group or series of photographs taken at that location and time frame.  As memory severs me it is one of the group of like a dozen to twenty pictures of that particular flying saucer at that time and location. Paul never copyrighted any of his pictures, or anything else in association with this association with these visitors.  As a consequence many of his pictures have been used in movies and books by others.  Paul, himself would have condoned and appreciated the dissemination of these.  If you had ever run into him as he was picking up his photographs from the developer; and had asked for a copy of the pictures.  He would gladly do so for the price that the developer charged him for copies.  He often said that this “friends”, those that visited him in their flying saucers wanted him to more openly show the pictures and discuss the elements of what he and them discussed.
Recently I YouTubed Paul’s name and lo and behold if there weren’t more than a couple video spots giving a brief discussion about my friend. In all honesty I only viewed two of these, an although they do a fairly good job of offering to the public a view of Paul that is objective and honest.  I do take exception to the volume of material they cite him as having had.  I recall on my visits that he had substantially more than the narrators of either video gave him credit.  As to photo-albums containing pictures of various flying saucers, space ships, observation vehicles, sampling drones, alien landscapes, phenomena, living dinosaurs and much much more these numbered in the hundreds of albums packed full of various pictures devoted to this hobby, shall we say.  Now in immediate approximate association to these were voluminous numbers of spiral notebooks.   Hahahah….. why spiral notebooks?  Well it should be quite obvious actually, in his dialogues with the different and varying persons from elsewhere.  How does one accomplish such a feat.  The new age crowd would have us all believe that some light or telepathic communication from the “superior” being would provide the solution.  According to Paul the affair was much more mundane than all that hype.  Yes, some could simply talk in a language he understood.  However, since among themselves speech is unnecessary, their mouths are used for other things.  The process of speaking was difficult for the vast majority.  Yet wishing to dialogue; the concept of writing is not limited to the constraints of physical aptitude of the one.  It is easy enough to learn the symbols or if you prefer pictography necessary to carry on a intelligent conversation, or as intelligent as could be presumed.  Now, I meet Paul in 1973, I was thirteen years old.  Yes I was a precocious young man, however.  My introduction to Paul was facilitated by Bill Miller my friend and employer under whom I was apprenticing as a silversmith.  Bill had for some time been Paul’s friend.  So I enjoyed the benefits of their association.  It also afforded me the opportunity to peruse the large library of spiral notebooks and a few of the other artifacts Paul had on open display in his living room. I should also note here that I was acquainted with the fact that Paul would limit access to his hobby depending on who was his guest.  I also was made aware that certain photographs and or artifacts would only be shown to persons he was instructed to do so with by his “friends”.  Thus I was aware I did not have full unlimited access to what was in Paul’s possession.   This may sound odd or suspicious to some; sounds rather sensible and practical to me.
I read many kinds of documents in my visits to Paul’s home.  Some were written to JPL or some similar quasi governmental agency or contractors.  Usually concerning developments or design flaws within any given space program or vehicle.  An as always there were the spiral notebooks, to occupy my attention.  As a general rule from what was described to me, Paul would have this overwhelming sense he needed to drive somewhere.  He would just drive out beyond the urban sprawl ultimately he would end up in a remote location where he would have an encounter of one kind or another.  He was encouraged to bring his camera and take photographs.  As these encounters came with some degree of regularity and so would the conversations; he soon learned to keep a notebook to write down questions of one kind or another in anticipation of these.  From what I could tell he usually had a dozen to a couple dozen questions ready and waiting between encounters. Sometimes a line of questioning would continue on into a at large discussion, though usually not.  Much of the material I read comes and goes in my memory of events, there are a couple of notable exceptions….
The most notable exception concerned the Flood, as in the Biblical Flood of Noah.  Among a variety of questions Paul had written down the question; where did the water for Noah’s Flood come from?  The written response was simple and succinct; Mars.  Now you the reader if perhaps you are unaware, but at the time the accepted scientific stated fact was that there was NO water on Mars.  That the observable polar caps were actually frozen CO2, common dry ice.  This was taught at all levels of academia (though there was a very small group that knew otherwise; a story for another installment in my narrations if you will) from elementary schools to universities.  I thought it intriguing and filed it away mentally.  At this point may I say that though I have always wondered of the short falls, mistakes and disinformation contained within what is presented as our collective histories and of scientific note.  I like most everyone generally accepted what I was taught in our institutions of education, all be it with more then a grain of salt.  As I discovered more and more of the Truth of the matter, I abandoned these illusions and lies only keeping current so as to maintain relevance in society and even simple conversations.  Presently as the consequence of these divergent realities presses down upon all of us, I as of late no longer share my understanding from the perspective of mere food for thought, or an alternative belief system; all the while being politely accommodating of the false or failed paradigms other hold. It is a disservice to my fellow men and women to feign such a posture for the sensibilities of those who refuse to question what is before them.  Thus upon meeting I fully acknowledge and realize that my “crazy coefficient” is ostensibly high. Any one who takes a moment to share what Life has given us, usually gives me the benefit of the doubt.  An as has been the case for the majority of my Life others shall always call me “crazy”.  Which isn’t purely a bad thing!
As we fast forward to the present; we now know that Mars once was a great water planet.  In fact it seems it had vast oceans and water in larger proportions than does our Earth.  Which bates the question of where did it all go?  Before science made these “discoveries”; I have long believed such.  Including that the water for Noah’s Flood did in fact come from Mars.  I shall leave you with that Fact to ponder.  Because believe it or not we shall be revisiting this subject and many others, so we shall have a rich WTF content….

The Most significant thing that anyone ought to know about anything concerning cows farming is that no ranch or farm is precisely the exact same. Nobody farm follows the creation practices of a different, and no 1 manufacturer manages her or his cows the exact same manner as the following one will. If you would like to learn about everything connected with cattle farming, then get to understand the fundamentals first, what makes each plantation click and everything in between anything else. Dairy farming or beef farming, it does not matter what, there are particular things within those ventures which make them operate, from the feed to the cattle and the financing necessary to conduct the farm into the cows themselves.
Live stock lens
It is a Great Deal of Hard Work...
Anyone  Are a fool if they stated raising cows was simple.  You've got machines, buildings, buildings, and managing facilities to preserve, fix --replace if it is absolutely crucial --cattle waterers to mend if they freeze in the dead of winter or should they stop working on you all of a sudden, hay to haul, financing to maintain at the top of (loans, utility bills and penalties to cover ), fences to keep and fix, the list keeps moving. You may experience periods of exhaustion during times once the farm requires you the most--be it physical or psychological exhaustion.
When  It's really easy to get caught when you are least expecting it, and from the time you realize you are caught it is often too late.  The best thing to ensure your success and also to keep all of your limbs intact would be to always know about your surroundings, understand if and when you are feeling exhausted, never wear loose clothes around running machines, and show the utmost respect for each of bulls and fresh momma cows with their calves. There's an entire collection of all farm-safety items I could lay out in the following guide, however I fear that it is only going to take up more space than that I intend and induce me to seriously slough off course.
No matter bulls and cows Needs to be respected and frequently not trustworthy either, whether or not you are working or handling a beef or poultry farm. Dairy bulls are particularly dangerous and you never to turn your back .  This is an issue when you have not established dominance together and if they don't honor you and your distance.  In case a bull sees you as contest because of his harem, he'll come after you. Otherwise, and sees you as only a two-legged individual rather than a two-legged bovine, then you need to be secure, but do not take my word for this as who knows what goes through a bull's head during breeding period!
Hormones Are also a huge element in aggressiveness in cattle. A cow's first instincts when that calf strikes the floor will be for her to nurture, suckle and shield it with her entire life.    Bulls have their method of communication they're not conducive of your existence also: revealing their sides, arching their throat revealing their dimensions, head shaking, not recognizing your existence at all (in other words, even ignoring you) if you are in the pen together, etc.. These are warning signals to get out, or be ready to stand your ground and make it understood that you don't tolerate their behavior . Then be ready to undergo with your escape plan, in case you've got one.
It Requires Knowing a little Bovine Psychology
When Raising cows, you need to know a reasonable bit about what cows are telling you so as to tell if they are just being favorable, a nuisance, a hazard, or an expected cull. Cattle that admit your existence, and come around you but maintain their individual space from you (except in the event that you invite them) are favorable. A number of the favorable ones may also be those which don't discount you but return into what they were doing until you disrupted them may also be considered favorable. Even the ones that come running towards you whenever they visit you--might be considered favorable, particularly in the event that you understand them well enough to understand when they come hurrying just like that it is to have fed, and less to make a stampede! Cattle that make high-strung, high-headed and make a rush for it each time you're about are ones which needs to be culled--cows should keep their individual space from you, but not go so far as to attempt jumping over the fence to escape from you! Sometimes these kinds of animals can be trained to be calmer about individuals, but there are occasions when this could be much more vain than simply rewarding. Some cows simply can not be tamed and stay"crazy"
Even though     Calves on cows could be weaned when they are about 6 to 10 weeks old. Dairy calves are removed from their dams each day or 2 (sometimes less) after arrival, but are not weaned off the jar till they're about 3 to 4 weeks old.  Vast majority of heifers are ready to be consumed by the time they're around 15 weeks old. A bull is about to breed from the time he is 12 months old. Age of adulthood for the majority of cows is about 3 to 4 decades old.
Calving and breeding periods will match, and the best   There's loads of debate exactly what time of year it's ideal to calve out cows, nevertheless a cow could be bred--and consequently calve--in any given time of the year. A cow could be bred either obviously --through a bull--or --known as artificial insemination through AI semen and gun .
When the calf stems, the milk works. The very first milk a cow creates because of her calf is known as colostrum. Following 48 hours she begins making"normal" milk. Her greatest nutritional necessities occur from late pregnancy into the next month of lactation.  Calves, once weaned, however, have different nutrient requirements--because they become older, protein demands reduction.
Know What to Take Them
Perhaps not   This is most likely where the best variations in how cattle are raised starts, and something that I am only able to cover temporarily here. Basically there are five kinds of feedstuffs which are fed to cows: hay, silage, grain, other feeds, and pasture. The latter is not just fed to cows, but instead cows are put to nourish themselves.
All dairy farms Will Need to feed their cows cows a  Nearly all hay fed to dairy cows is constituted of alfalfa or clover and fishes such as orchard grass and timothy. Silage--that can be chopped and fermented feed--is frequently of corn, because it's greater nutritional quality than wheat or barley. The grain part of the TMR ration could be corn, wheat or barley, based on what is more appropriately grown in the region where the milk farm is situated.
Varies considerably more significantly than in your typical dairy farms.  The lowest-quality rations are awarded to cow-calf surgeries, and also the highest-quality to feedlots. Cows on cow-calf surgeries frequently don't have any issue subsisting from grass and hay, even though some manufacturers like to feed them grain or silage during the winter season. Backgrounding/stocker surgeries will need to nourish their calves so they develop, therefore pasture, silage and high quality hay is frequently fed. Feedlots finish cows for slaughter, therefore an 85 percent grain-based"sexy" ration is necessary. Another 15 percent is included of roughage such as silage.
All cows Have to Be fed sterile water and also have access to Mineral in any way times. Beef producers feed their nutrient to their cows free-choice, occasionally mixed in with all the feed. Dairy manufacturers have a tendency to possess these minerals blended in with all the feed.
Which Are You Getting Your Favorite From?
That is  A significant question to ask yourself whether you plan on starting your cows farm. Basically you've got two options: Create your own, or buy it. If you create your own, you'll need your own equipment and also the opportunity to produce the feed. You might require the excess labour if it is required, based on which sort of feed you are making. Producing your own feed will bite into your gains since it means more money spent on gasoline and maintenance/repair expenses. Purchasing feed has its dangers too. Although you do not close half the machines needed for producing your own feed, you still need to have somewhere to keep it and risk the feed you are getting to be less good excellent feed as you would like it to be. There might be health risks related to the feed you buy --that the hay you buy may have pieces of garbage or metal inside, or even the feed you bought from the feed shop could possibly be infected with something which will kill your critters.
You Can have as small as merely a few parts of machines to as numerous as to create any agricultural machines retailer company proud. I have known a few cattle producers that just have a couple pieces of gear: a hay-hauler truck, a livestock trailer, and also a four-wheeler ATV.   What kind and how many machines you believe you want to own (try to not consider it as"need") in your cows farm will have an effect on your bottom line and the way you increase your critters.
Believe  Of it this way: If you would like to repaint your cows on pasture throughout the year, there'll be a point in time at which you will understand that the machines you desire is not always the very same parts of machines you may need!!
Each   From that point you are able to do the test to find out whether you're losing money, simply breaking even or really making a little cash from the farm. In addition, it can let you know in which you're weakest or most powerful, and what options you should think about if you would like to boost income amounts to your enterprise. Creating and keeping a business strategy can help a lot too.
Sheltering Your Own Cattle
Shelter Is not too large an significance, though a easy lean-to drop or even a stand of trees will probably suffice for many. Dairy cows will need to be kept restricted to a barn during the winter season. This might not be so in locations where they do not encounter as intense, freezing or freezing winters as a lot of North America has. When they don't have a lot of shelter, then they will need to compensate for the absence of heat by ingesting more feed so they can remain warm.
Most Herds will need to stay current with their vaccinations each year, based upon the age and sex of the animals in addition to in which you're farming them.    Some regions need vaccinations against Anthrax too. Check with your neighborhood large-animal vet for what kinds of diseases that you want to vaccinate your creatures.
Assess your herd Regularly for signs of disease or illness. The clearest symptoms I have discovered using the cows we had were listlessness or lethargic action --calves that normally ought to be considering food aren't, they're slow to get up or attempting to put down and rest rather than get up and consume. Other indications include lameness, dull eyes, loss of body condition, bald spots, kicking at the stomach, coughing, snotty nose, or a lot of abortions on your herd to be considered ordinary, or anything else unusual regarding the creature's behavior or elements of its body, which range from the udder or scrotum into the eyes. Be constantly aware that one symptom you visit could be a indication of a far larger issue.
Where You Buy Livestock, You'll Acquire Deadstock
As The Circle of Life goes round and about, you can't expect any of your critters, old and young alike, to live eternally. You'll receive cows which will expire on you, otherwise or unexpectedly. That's only something to anticipate on each livestock farm or ranch. It's challenging for every single manufacturer to have an animal die on these, but that is only part of life. A lot of men and women that are generations removed from farm lifestyle don't understand this, however as somebody who wishes to enter cows or any sort of livestock industry this is a tough fact you have to understand or else you are not likely to survive long inside.
Everything you do with these dead Creatures is dependent upon local laws.  It is no issue to drag a carcass from the middle of a pasture and allow  The scavengers treat it. Other regions need such carcasses to Be instantly buried or burnt or possess a livestock-rendering truck encounter  To take away them for you.  Special bull or cow, prized or maybe not, opt to bury that creature just Like somebody would spoil a pet cat or dog which was part of the household  For many years.

Thank you for the question!  While I disagree that it’s just ‘human nature’ to always misuse power over others*(1), it is still a good premise in general and definitely something that is  necessary to think about. (answer is under the read more )
-------------------
I guess I’ll just do a bullet point list since I'm trying to keep this as a short casual answer and not be too lengthy with it (it probably won't be since that's impossible for me but, I'm making, An Attempt). Here’s all the stuff I can recall off the top of my head  that would generally prevent something like people who can use magic just rising up to take over the world or whatever :
They really have no reason to — Like I explain in the side note at the end of this post, I don’t think people inherently by nature must grab for power just because it’s possible for them to do so. Additionally like I’ve mentioned before, the supernatural realm is incredibly diverse and isolated, people are usually living in their own pocket societies and could care less what happens next door, especially people with magic (magic capable species often have much longer life spans, which probably helps with the kind of, maybe seemingly odd lack of conflict in most areas. But like.. after you’ve been fighting with the same exact fucking dude for 2,000+ years with nothing changing, don’t you eventually just work it out? You either get over it , fix it, or destroy yourselves trying and don’t get to that old age in the first place). Most species in Nanyevimi are existing on wildly different time scales from one another.. If you and all your people are like 800+ years old and some 30 year old comes to try to wreck your stuff, hopefully you have the knowledge and experience at this point to just look at them like a weird little baby and not engage with it .. I would have trouble believing there are many  1,000 year olds out there that are still trying to beat the shit out of everyone who vaguely challenges them and pick petty political fights with all their neighbors. Not to say they all have to be peaceful, there are plenty of ancient societies with ages old beef that may be bitter, but you’ve got to kind of mellow out at some point and realize when large scale conflicts just aren’t worth it lol, leading to significantly more unwillingness to start conflicts, and only having them when you must, and even then to probably give them so much consideration the conflict is over before you’ve decided what to do about it, choosing inaction in most ways. I’d think that most societies where people often live over 500+ years old end up naturally adopting more detached, isolating, and conflict avoidant views, since after a while it’s just not worth it anymore.. like imagine being at war for like 8,000+ years with the same exact people? Again, there are plenty of longstanding conflicts or minor political things like mistrusting another group based on history or etc. etc., but in terms of really SERIOUS like, currently active forms of violence like trying to take down an entire society or invading lands or etc?? A majority of magical/longer living groups wouldn’t even bother.  Most  frequently warring/conflict heavy societies I think would be more like humans and elves and other generally shorter lived individuals (creatures below the 300 year lifespan threshold or so, at least when thinking about Nanyevimi I usually follow the ‘the older you are the more chill you must have gotten’ rule, with a few exceptions here and there. Since again, after about 700 years of watching history repeat itself I feel like a person or people would eventually either find a different solution or just drop the conflict and self isolate or something.. You can only have the same argument so many times before both sides just give up. Ancient peoples no longer have bloody wars and devastating invasions, merely a few delicately placed resentments and many tightly locked doors.). And even if most magical groups weren’t more chill due to other factors about them,  what extra resources or technology or anything would they stand to gain from attacking a group of non magic users in the next village over? If anything the non-magic users are the ones who stand to benefit from allying with or exploiting people who can use magic (which is attempted on occasion), not the other way around. And very rarely do non-magic users ever try to get involved with them like to oppress them or try to attack them or regulate magic or something, so why would magic users have anything against like, regular non-magic people who aren’t doing anything to them? That’s not to say that conflict never happens, obviously in a world that vast there are plenty of land disagreements and etc. but for the most part, magical species and cultures just really don’t stand to gain anything from destroying the entire world anyway, even if they could , which brings me to one of the main reasons they couldn’t …
-
-
People who can use magic are not a unified force — it’s not like all the magical people in the world can just band together under one cause. Magic users are a slight majority in Nanyevimi, which means that’s still like… a LOT of people.. All of whom come from entirely different cultures, species, religions, climates, ways of life, speak different languages, have entirely different views on magic and it’s use and significance, etc. (again, in a pretty vast and generally isolated realm, hardly anything is ever uniform). Even if some wild world-ending apocalypse event were to occur that could only be fixed by all magical individuals working together, they still probably wouldn’t be able to cooperate lol, it’d just be too many entirely different groups to really orchestrate well together, let alone trying to get them all to work together just to do something meaningless like kill off all non-magical species or something.  They all have vastly different , usually even opposing, motivations and societal attitudes. Which is one reason why ....
-
-
Magic capable groups usually regulate other magic capable groups on their own — There would basically never be a situation where it’s split evenly between inherently magical beings and non-magical beings, especially since most species and societies that are magic capable are like.. generally cooperative? Most recognize the position they’re in and make significant efforts to regulate their own communities and even outside of those. Again, it’s not like the non-magic groups are attempting to stifle the magic groups or doing anything else that would give them motivation to rebel, if anything it’s usually magical people mostly trying to have control of other magical people, since they know they’re the only ones with the ability to. I think I’ve mentioned stuff before about like magical task forces that go around to help non-magical groups with any magical folk that are causing them trouble, and stuff like councils of mages that exist to regulate what is taught and used in magical schools, and the variety of groups that exist in Nanyevimi to add balance and mediate any magic vs. non-magic conflicts, and organizations that do stuff like heavily monitor passage into the human realm or other non-magical areas, etc.  Even if one group of magic users were like dead set on enslaving all non-magical beings or something, there’d probably be just as many equally powerful magical groups out to break their isolation and get involved to quickly stop them. They’re not uniform, and their motivations are always going to be unique and even contrasting, there will probably always be plenty of magical beings out there monitoring others of their own kind, especially since a negative view of magic is not helpful for anyone.  Even if not morally motivated by saving non-magic folk, plenty of magical groups would see it practical for a variety of reasons to get involved in whatever nonsense misuse of magic would be going on at the time, if the active groups that exist SOLELY to take care of that sort of thing hadn’t done something about it already. Though I also don’t want to understate the concept that there are bad magic users, there are definitely people out there who do some wild shit and really try to cause conflicts, but just in terms of any large scale efforts to like, significantly harm the non-magical population or etc., there’s too much self regulation and lack of unity for that to really be something that would take off. Even most of the lone assholes or tiny cults operating on a small scale end up getting thwarted by other magic users. If anything “magic capable group vs. magic capable group” is a MUCH more common and significant conflict than “magic capable group vs. non magical group”. [( Especially since they’re often pretty culturally divided and hardly even exist in the same world as one another (again, elite mage societies full of 9,000 year old ethereal beings are not going to wake up one day and be like "Hey lets go like.. start a fight with that random farming village of non-magical humans that would probably just shoot a few arrows at us before dying of shock the second we whip out a spell because they’ve never seen magic before".  Groups in Nanyevimi can sometimes be so varied that they just literally.. could not give less of a shit about each other lol, they’re out of each other’s scope, not even on each other’s radar. Though obviously there are places where magic users and non-magical folk interact with each other and are close enough to understand each other well (like a group of magical elves that has a 150 - 200 yr lifespan  and a group of non-magic humans that has an 80 - 100 yr lifespan aren't really that far apart enough for that to be a huge source of cultural divide), a lot of the time it's like.. a group of non-magic humanoid animal forest folk who only live to 50 yrs. that spend their days collecting berries or singing and a group of 5,000 year old blind cave dwellers that spend their days using reality magic to craft realms inside their own minds and travel through them are like... going to be on such different levels culturally that they barely exist to one another. The way that magic typically impacts lifespan (and the way that both magic and lifespan impact the culture of a people) usually creates enough of a divide between magic & non-magic people that they wouldn't even consider each other as an option to war with or etc. )] Organizations that seek to regulate certain things and prevent crimes (like the magical groups mentioned above), international organizations that seek to aid people with stuff like travel and education (like having language translators or cultural experts positioned at popular travel hubs or etc.), the rare Global City areas, and occasional necessary trade of resources between neighbors or outside groups, are really some of  the only things in  Nanyevimi that give any semblance of connection and cohesion to the groups there.  Otherwise, some of the species and cultures and etc. may as well be living on entirely different planets. Without the few global councils and organizations and etc.,  most of the realm would have nothing to do with one another. Especially magical groups and non-magical groups, who are usually, at the least, on a pretty different life timescale from one another, if not entirely different in many other ways, to the point of both not having much of an interest in the other positively or negatively (or avoiding the other out of fear, or out of elitism, just out of self-absorption with ones own society over others, etc.)

Enchantments and other stuff make magic accessible to most people, at least in the form of defense against magic — like I may have mentioned before in other places, many non inherently magical people can still utilize magic inventions, and some can even learn magic to some degree (it’s just so much more difficult and limited in scope that most don’t), but enchantments are especially common.  It’s pretty commonly accepted that even in most non-magical areas, many people are going to enchant their homes to make them immune to magical intrusion, have an enchanted amulet they bought from some elven salesman once that allows them to use light healing magic every once in a while (as long as they recharge the enchantment when it runs out), basically every important building you go to (like prisons, banks, schools, etc.) is going to have a high level magic blocking enchantment either throughout the entire building or just at the entrance (meaning if you try to walk in while using shape shifting magics or something in order to pose as someone else, the magic will be cancelled out and you’ll revert back to your normal appearance, etc.). There are plenty of enchantments that can be used that either limit or entirely block magic in a certain area or etc., and though of course these have to be created by magic users, again, there are plenty of magic users who have motivations that would lead them to create that sort of thing, and distribute them to non-magical groups to help them, or just because they’re getting paid to do so. The hiring of magic users to help create technology and enchantments to inhibit and regulate other magic users, or just to create random magic shit that helps people on an individual level (like a ring that puts a temporary barrier around you in combat or etc.) is incredibly common and you see it everywhere. Most non-magical people can access magic in some way, if not extensively in the form of personal enchantments and technological conveniences, at the very least their village leader will usually hire a mage to set up a barrier around important buildings in their town or something (and even if they do none of that, that’s where the magical task forces and stuff come in that help groups who have never heard of magic in their lives but are being bothered by it.)   But for the most part, even a non-magical society, even most societies that actively hate and look down on magic, still are usually at least minorly aware of it’s existence and utilize it in some limited practical everyday applications, at the very least for defensive purposes. Usually it's just stuff like a local group of elves enchanting a few things for some humans, or the leader of a non-magical group venturing out of their isolated forest lands to the nearest travel hub and buying something magical from the market, etc. etc. As most magical and non-magical groups are usually not allied or close friends (again, they mostly mutually ignore each other), it would be rare for a non-magical culture to have like, magic and enchantments and etc. fully integrated into every aspect of their society or something, but a few minor defensive enchantments here and there out of necessity can be pretty common.. Which does present at least some barrier to any magic group that did happen to want to be malicious for whatever reason.
And, the last and most major point…

Magic just plain sucks lol— remember that magic is still varied as hell and dangerous and hard to use and people who are genuinely significantly powerful are absolutely the minority. Probably a good 80% of the magic used in the entire realm is just, mundane small scale battle magic (leaning to shoot a tiny bit of fire from your hands to defend yourself while hunting), basic low level enchantments that do stuff like create barriers or help someone’s baking always turn out well, and random little things like people conjuring food for themselves every once in a while when on a trip , using elemental magic to grow plants in interesting ways, magically repairing household items, or levitating a small distance in order to reach something on shelf, etc. etc. Which I talk more about the actual uses of magic in society and who can use magic in my main post about magic in Nanyevimi, but like most people in the realm absolutely don’t have the time, energy, circumstance, motivation, or innate ability set to be able to become like, wildly magical super beings that could group together to create an uprising.   Most magic users are random low level dudes in small villages that occasionally cast enchantments on crops to help their food supply but don’t get any more involved with magical shit than that (not even just because magic itself is generally dangerous, but also over-exertion of magic and draining your energy can have dire consequences, so most don’t use it willy nilly to just do whatever, it’s a high risk limited resource, not a fun happy fix all wave fingers and conjure unlimited sandwiches sort of thing.. even these everyday uses can be detrimental, there's like a 30% chance you'll kill yourself just using a small spell to repair your broken shoes, so even most people who are capable of and trained in magic hardly ever use it for much beyond a few casual low level uses every once in a while when they see it as important enough to risk). Especially since there are different TYPES and levels of magic you can do, and most magic beyond a basic level is fairly inaccessible to a majority of the population, most just sticking within the scope of whatever their species is inherently inclined towards or whatever is relevant to their life/occupation (and still mostly low level within these).   And even if people were capable of all types, most would actually not even have information to access it if they could. I write a lot about things like absorption of souls and creation of pocket realities and illusion magics and etc. just because I find it the most interesting in application lol, but out in the actual realm they’re hardly prevalent and you’re really not going to know about their existence unless it’s the expertise area of your species (like how some groups of Jhevona are naturally inclined towards soul magics and it’s use becomes heavily embedded in their culture, or how Verrucalt are the only known species alive to effortlessly do reality magics from birth, etc.), or you’re someone who specifically spends a lot of time studying magic (like a scholar or teacher), in which case you are probably fully aware of the consequences of magic mis-use and would be terrified to really try the magic yourself beyond studying theory without heavy supervision from an experienced Jhevona or something (who would probably dictate careful cultural rules on how you can use it anyway). So, most people don’t even KNOW about many of the actually truly  dangerous types of magic, and anyone who does know about it is likely  either terrified of it, not terrified of it (meaning they clearly don’t know enough about the consequences of it) and has killed themselves doing a spell, or was raised using it and has a pristine control over it with many culturally imposed limitations in place (usually some of which involve rules like, 'uh hey, don't attack random people, especially not those who can't even use magic to defend themselves'). So in addition to the whole ‘a majority of the population has extremely low level magic skill and can hardly pull off terrifying feats of magic anyway even if they wanted to because they lack the inherent ability necessary just by way of nature’,  there’s also the whole ‘even if most people DID have the ability to do these things, itd probably extremely hard for them to access information and training’ thing to consider. And then in addition to THAT, even if someone did have informational access AND ability to do all types of magic.... (which again, is pretty much unheard of , even most mage scholars can’t legitimately perform most of the skills they have factual information on.. really only some misc groups of Jhevona and ancient demons that have trained for usually 5,000+ years or more can even gain access to all types of magic, let alone perform them correctly (that’d come around the 10,000 year mark perhaps lol)) .... there would still be the issue of like.. magic being ridiculously costly. The number one cause of death in the realm is literally magic use (which of course varies, some societies that use magic all the time have more bad incidents, non-magical or magic-shunning societies have pretty much zero magic caused deaths a year, etc., I’m talking about like GLOBALLY though, if you combine all causes of death in all of Nanyevimi as a whole to an average) lol. There’s good reason most people would never pursue much higher level magic than what is necessary, and don’t explore out of their inherent inclination (elves who have elemental magic come naturally to them only ever using their base skill and not learning soul magics or something, non-magical people not seeking to learn magic even though they technically could do a few minor types with the right training and specific conditions, etc.).  Even something as simple as conjuring a tiny flame to light a torch can end up killing or seriously injuring you, not even to mention high level stuff like transferring souls or creating massive explosions or etc.  It’s pretty much accepted that like in a mage school with a starting class of 100 students, it’d be fairly regular for 50 to die by the second year, and 100% to receive some form of minor or major injury, usually multiple times (depending on the type and level of magic being taught, but this is more general). It is known: magic will hurt you, it just depends on when and how badly. Rate of death and injury is significantly higher during the initial learning period (obviously), but even like, nearly all-powerful ancient demons who have been studying for 10,000 years will still completely horrifically fuck up from time to time, and in their 10,000 years of experience have probably almost died, mutilated their body, burned down their house, almost fractured their soul, killed someone around them by accident, etc. more times than they could even possibly count. It’s said that without access to healing magic and shape shifting abilities to make up for it, most high level magic users would look like fucking corpses, absolutely covered head to toe with the countless scars from injuries they’ve acquired over the years, disfigured and mangled in various ways to the point of not even looking humanoid anymore. Literally the very first things they have you master in any magic school is healing magic and stuff like the ability to regrow limbs (and ironically, even this, if not used correctly, can kill and injure you lol), so you can have a starting base to more easily recover from your inevitable future life-threatening mistakes.  Magic is generally still not understood despite intelligent humanoid societies existing and studying it in Nanyevimi in some form for the past two million years or so. It’s source, the link it seems to have to souls/blood/etc., how to fully control it, why there’s physical side effects to it’s exposure, etc. none of these things have been worked out, and it’s still a very chaotic and dangerous thing to be messing with in general.   Luckily there are groups who have worked out ways to do certain things safely these days (like elven and Jhevona(demons) societies who have had magic integrated in their culture for millions of years and have evolved detailed customs and etc. to use it most effectively while minimizing harm), and most minor low level stuff can be done without too much consequence (though still, if you don’t  COMPLETELY know what you’re doing, the smallest most baby step day one type of spell can kill you), and things like enchantments have become common place and etc., but magic as a WHOLE, like including all high level stuff and etc., is still broadly inaccessible, misunderstood, and has a ridiculously high death rate among it’s users. So this is probably one of the biggest reasons magic users could never take over the world or whatever, is just .. magic users in Nanyevimi rarely are like, people with some dangerous ultimate power or etc. etc.. A vast majority are merely common people using low level magics very very very carefully to occasionally improve their quality of life or help them with something, or to make enchantments for others or protect their homes from fires or etc, and never messing with it outside of that. While there are some truly formidable groups/individuals out there, and (low level) magic is in some sense very ‘common place’  throughout the realm,  as a whole, magic’s difficulty and mystery and extremely high risk means it’s still something most don’t use excessively or to a dangerous amount. So some sort of thing like ‘an entire country of extremely high level mages rise up to overtake the rest of non-magical  world, muahaha’ is like, functionally impossible, as if there’d ever be an entire country of high level mages in the first place, who can also somehow all get along, not die from magical exertion, share a common goal, and see non-magical groups as worth messing with lmao, etc. etc.
But anyway, idk this is kind of disorganized but hopefully it’s outlined reasonably enough lol, I kind of just rambled from one topic to the other but those are all I can think of right now.
So in summary, magic users don’t rise up and overtake all non magic users because:
--- they have no reason to do so
--- (and most non-magic users and magic users are so disconnected from each other they don't care to start conflicts across groups anyway, 'magic vs. magic' or 'non-magic vs. non-magic' conflicts are WAY more common than 'non-magic' vs. 'magic', which legit hardly even exists anywhere)
--- magic users are not a unified force who could coordinate something like that anyway
--- most of them disagree with each other and there are plenty of magical groups in place to keep control over other magic users if they were to act up
--- at the least very basic protection magic is widely available in most places even to non-magic groups
--- and most importantly, magic as a whole is also just sucky and risky, so a majority of frequent users of magic only do low level spells and hardly could accomplish anything on the scale of working to enslave an entire society or something.
 --
[ side note 1:
(I put this at the bottom since it's kind of unrelated to anything else)
I think it’s often just a product of the broader societal norms set up by culture and especially enforced by economic systems, or like individual psychology, but I don’t think antagonistic domination over others is inherent to the nature of humanoid beings, especially since from any sort of actual rational survival standpoint, you’re going to need to cooperate at some point, etc., How in many ways adaptations that help us cooperate can be a lot more essential in survival than those that incline us to be fight each other or whatever. In a majority of situations the skills necessary to cooperate and share will help you survive/give you an advantage more than dominance and antagonism, which while that can be helpful in the short term, usually doesn't aid in long form survival, especially if everyone around you is the same way. Even if you're thinking in the most selfish terms possible, adapting to cooperate and share with others at least to some degree is going to be the most advantageous for you if you really think about it and the long term set up and etc. (getting group protection, sharing labor, sharing resources, collective knowledge pool, etc. (which would become dysfunctional and limited if everyone just stole from each other or killed everyone else or tried to hoard resources. etc.)) And looking at the variety of cultures and philosophies and etc. out there, again I think it's just more conditional/individually psychological/cultural than it is like, literally just some ingrained unchangeable permanent way that all humans inherently must be like, etc. etc.  If nothing else, humans are very malleable, and can adapt to all different societal organizations and lifestyles.
And also, a majority of the population of Navyete is not human, though I have stated in the past they have pretty humanoid brain structure and likely function similarly in the sense of what cognitive biases and mental things they’re prone to, I could have some merit to argue that even if humans are just Like That, maybe elves or jhevona or etc. are  cognitively different somehow, though that’s still more of a cop out and my main answer is still ‘no, humans need not inherently be Like That in the first place’ lol ]

But anyway, idk this is kind of disorganized but hopefully it’s outlined reasonably enough lol, I kind of just rambled from one topic to the other but those are all I can think of right now.  Thank for the question, hopefully this was organized enough!!! ghh

First Named Storm of 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season is 10 Days Early
[By Kristopher Karnauskas]
As summer in the Northern Hemisphere approaches, forecasters begin watching every bout of rainy weather between the Gulf of Mexico and Africa. Each counterclockwise swirl of wind or burst of puffy clouds there has the potential to organize into a life-threatening tropical storm.
About half of the tropical storms that formed over the past two decades grew into hurricanes, and about half of those became the monsters of coastal destruction we call major hurricanes. We’re now accustomed to seeing about 16 tropical storms per year, though that number can vary quite a bit year to year.
What are the warning signs that we might be in for another record Atlantic hurricane season like 2020, when 30 tropical storms formed, or a quieter one like 2014, with just eight?
The National Hurricane Center issued its first seasonal forecast of 2021 on May 20, and it expects a more active than normal season, with 13 to 20 named storms, six to 10 hurricanes and three to five major hurricanes. The first of those named storms, Ana, formed on May 22, 10 days ahead of the season’s June 1 start.
Here are some of the ingredients forecasters and scientists like myself look for.
Where tropical storms begin
Hurricanes live in the atmosphere, but they are fed by the ocean. First, let’s look even farther upstream and find out where they come from.
Like growing crops, hurricanes will be plentiful and robust with a large number of seeds and favorable environmental conditions.
The seeds of tropical storms are small and hardly menacing weather disturbances. You’ll find them scattered throughout the tropics on any given day. In the Atlantic, some start as clusters of thunderstorms over Africa, or as clouds near the Cape Verde Islands off Africa’s west coast.
The vast majority of these seeds do not survive beyond a few days, but some are swept up by the easterly airflow to be planted over the tropical Atlantic Ocean between about 10 to 20 degrees north latitude. This is the field where growth is really fueled by the ocean. From there, developing tropical storms are carried westward and northward by the “steering currents” of the atmosphere – avoiding the equator where the crucial effect of Earth’s rotation is too small for them to develop further.
The more seeds, the better chance of an active hurricane season.
Several factors influence the level of tropical storm seeding in a given year, but forecasters’ eyes are usually trained on the African monsoon in the spring.
Once those seeds emerge from the African coastline or from pockets of warm, rising air popping up elsewhere over the ocean, attention shifts to the environmental conditions that can fuel or limit their growth into tropical storms and hurricanes.
Warm water fuels hurricanes
In general, tropical storms thrive where the surface ocean is a balmy 80 F (26.7 C) or warmer. That’s why hurricanes are rare before June 1 and are most likely to occur August through October, when the ocean is at its warmest.
The main fuel supply for tropical storms is the heat energy in the upper ocean, the top 100 feet (30 meters) or so.
Tumblr media
Warm water helped Hurricane Michael grow into a huge, destructive storm in 2018. NASA Earth Observatory
It’s more than just the temperature of the surface, though. A major factor in the development of very strong hurricanes is how deep the warm waters extend, and how sharply separated the warm layer is from the cold waters below. This is because hurricanes churn up the ocean as they move along.
If the layer of warm water is shallow and easily mixed, it doesn’t take much churning to dilute the heat energy at the surface with cold water from below, leaving less energy for the hurricane. But if the warm water goes deeper, the storms have more fuel to draw from.
The effect of upper-level winds
The prevailing winds already blowing in a region can also make or break a storm.
Winds blow at different speeds at different heights. It’s one of the reasons airplanes experience turbulence. How much faster the prevailing winds are near the top of the storm than at the bottom is called wind shear. With too much wind shear, the storm has difficulty maintaining those towering plumes of rising hot air.
Similarly, if the rising air can’t escape and flow outward quickly enough, the energy consumed by the storm can’t be ventilated and the engine chokes. Both can prevent the storm from becoming organized and either cap its growth or cause it to dissipate.

How El Niño and its opposite, La Niña, affect hurricanes. NOAA Climate.gov
An important clue about future wind shear in the Atlantic region comes from events thousands of miles away in the equatorial Pacific Ocean.
When the eastern Pacific Ocean is abnormally warm – known as El Niño – the global atmosphere gets rearranged in a way that increases wind shear over the Atlantic. That tends to suppress tropical storms there – but don’t bet the farm on it. Other slow variations in the climate system also influence environmental conditions, including multi-year periods of warmer or cooler than normal surface temperatures in the North Atlantic.
El Niño’s opposite, La Niña, tends to bring low wind shear, favoring more tropical storms. These conditions are near neutral right now, and forecasters are watching to see what develops.
Where to watch
So if you’re watching for early signs of Atlantic hurricanes in 2021, keep an eye on the African monsoon for storm seeding, temperatures in the tropical Atlantic Ocean to provide the fuel and a possible late-blooming La Niña, meaning less wind shear to tear storms apart. The National Hurricane Center – and many other forecasting groups in government, academia and industry – analyze these and other factors in their season projections.

The bigger picture
The total number of tropical storms tells only part of the story. There are other important aspects to keep an eye on over time, like how intense storms become, how long they last, how fast they travel and how long they take to dissipate after making landfall. Recent studies have indicated that hurricane-fueling ocean temperatures have been trending warmer since the Industrial Revolution, especially along the U.S. East Coast.
Coastal communities are already on the front lines of climate change with sea level rise. The potential for changes in extreme events like tropical storms, with their complex interactions with the atmosphere and ocean, are why hurricanes have steadily risen to be a top research priority.

Stories from the Unliving Ch 4
“So you’re the girl, huh? I have to say, quite a looker. I was really expecting worse, knowing the guy there, but hey, glad to be proven wrong!”
“I would really appreciate you not insulting me, thank you for that” said the young man. “She’s real intelligent and was very curious about meeting you”
“I bet! I’m not your run of the mill, pond-dwelling skeleton, that you meet in most other lakes. No, I also have some pretty fat fish too!”
“No need to be aggressive like that, she just wants to talk to you”
“Fine, fine, sorry. What did you want to talk about? ...... Hello?”
“She actually can’t speak, and uses her little writing board to communicate”
“Ah, sorry, my bad. But yeah, just write your messages and I’ll just work with that. ...... Ah yeah, I don’t know my name, don’t remember it any more. I already explained this to your friend here, but I’ve been alive for over 30.000 years, so a lot of the early stuff is gone. Stuff like who I was, family, friends, but after meeting soooo very many people, doing soooo many things, nothing gets left. It’s like, the more I learn, and experience, the closer the cutoff gets. The first thing I remember, at this point is when my flesh had just started to decay”
“He speaks the truth, but even still, he remembers so many others! He is a veritable academy’s worth of knowledge.”
“Sure, why not. ...... I mean, I live here, it’s my home, I don’t need to breathe or eat, or whatever, so I’ve made my home at the bottom of the pond here. I moved in here about 7000-8000 years ago, I had a house, actually, right over there, but decided that the upkeep on that is way more than I can be bothered with, so instead, I carved some stone furniture, and pushed it in the water, the house just degraded over time, and by now, the only thing you can see left of it, is that stone over there. That was my fireplace. Never even used the thing, it was just for aesthetics”
“I never realised you had a house here. I had assumed you’ve always lived in the pond itself. What made you go under the water?”
“Folk like you, actually. Or, I guess, how you were. Swords and armor, and ‘begone foul beast’ while I was just chilling on my porch. ...... I mean, I can’t die, so why would I fight back? Furthermore, I’m a pacifist, and I really try to be non-confrontational, sort of, you don’t mess with me and I don’t mess with you. And honestly, even if you do mess with me, as long as you don’t go too far, I won’t be doing much.”
“But what about your honor? Do you not feel the need to defend what you stand for? Why, if someone were to attack my home, I would pick up a sword and punish the person myself!”
“I’m sure you will. But again, non-confrontational, and I just don’t care too much. Obviously, you try messing with my fish, I will mess you up. I have stuff that you primitives can only dream of, and even then. ...... No offence, it’s just very high technological level. Even I only get the general idea of how it works. Something about deionizing your atoms, doesn’t ‘cut’ in the traditional sense, but more like, takes you apart when getting close to the edge. ...... Nah, haven’t used it in a long time. Last I did was for carving the stone furniture down at the bottom. It works on almost everything that the blade approaches.”
“It sounds like a mighty weapon! If that got into the wrong hands, it could mean disaster for maybe a whole kingdom!”
“I mean, yeah, but they have to actually come here, go through me, dive to the bottom of my pond, which isn’t very shallow, I’ll have you know, get the blade, and then still fight their way through to using it. ...... Nah, I don’t think I will, it’s perfectly safe where it is. I mean, only the two of you know about it, so if someone else was to find out, I’ll know who to blame.”
“I would never betray your trust like that!”
“It’s happened before, it will happen again. It’s human nature. But it doesn’t bother me too much. Always expect the worst and you can never be disappointed, I always say. ...... You’re dark! I’m a realist! And besides, I have my fish, and yeah, technically they mostly just are here for the food and the great environment I’ve created for them here, but they can’t betray you, since, you know. They’re fish. Yes, you Pete Liv! ...... Oh, this is Pete Liv. Say ‘Hi’ Pete Liv. ...... His called Pete, but he is the 54th Pete that I’ve had, so Roman numerals, that’s LIV.”
“What’s a Roman?”
“Errr, they used to be this real big empire thing a looooong time ago. I really don’t remember the details any more. I think someone stabbed someone else? Maybe the other way around? Who cares? Think it might have been over the throne.”
“Any good kingdom would never follow someone who took the throne by stabbing the previous leader! It’s just undignified and downright evil! The people will never trust a person who relies on violence to lead them!”
“Congratulations, you just discovered the basis for democracy. ...... That’s a way of governing people where basically, anyone eligible puts their name down on a list and the people get to choose who they like most. Supposedly it isn’t rigged, but there’s always someone paying for votes. ...... Well, if you’re the previous president, you’d want to keep being that, since you get quite a lot of benefits from it, and the pay’s nothing to shake a stick at. So, with your vast amounts of money that you have from, well, being you, you just invest a very small portion, and pay out enough people to tip the scales in your favor, so you keep staying in power, and you keep getting all the benefits and money, and whatever.”
“I am getting confused now. Is this system a good thing or not?”
“It’s complicated. You’ll get to it eventually, but from what I can tell you’re still pretty early in the development, so monarchy it is! ...... Well, I’m still alive, but I get your question. Don’t remember, to be honest with you. I’d guess we went through a bunch of different options. There was likely a monarchy, democracy, tyranny. Dunno, maybe some others. I’ve seen quite a few governments after that, that had all sorts of varied styles. I told your friend here about that time I was an evil overlord, and put forth an age of prosperity for all involved. Until I got bored, anyways.”
“It’s true, It was an amazing tale to behold!”
“There was just so much infighting, and the previous ruling class, hoo boy, they weren’t happy I overthrew them all and made them all potato farmers. Apart from me, literally, everybody else was equal. Everybody got an equal amount of food for free, everybody got an equal living space for free, equal pay, equal everything. Took a while to tear everything down, and the people with the big houses, they really didn’t like me. But you get used to conformity. It’s easy to have everything provided for you.”
“The way you put it, that reminds me a little of the tyranny that you mentioned.”
“It wasn’t like anybody was suffering, I had knowledge of past ages, of more advanced medicine, that I implemented, so everyone was unnatural healthy for the age that they were in. I remember, one time they brought in a guy that was bitten by an animal. Foaming at the mouth, super excitable, trying to break free, clearly rabies. And the people were basically asking me if they should let him in the woods so he can die without causing trouble for anyone else. I just laughed, took a syringe with the vaccine and injected him. Within a few hours he had calmed down, and within a few days, he was back to farming potatoes, or whatever it is he was doing”
“That was a very good thing to do, helping a man. We have this same illness in our time too, but we call it Mad Eyes, because of the look people get when they catch it. It’s amazing that you can heal it! You would be able to save so many people, if you wanted to!”
“Nah, not in the superhero business any more. I had that phase for a while, but got over it pretty quickly. Did you know everyone just expects heroes to do their heroing just because? And without any form of compensation? I didn’t really mind, since I didn’t need to eat or had the need for money, other than just fixing what was broken from my equipment, but someone that needed to eat, pay rent? They couldn’t keep a regular job because of all the time from it they’d had to miss. So that whole thing was short lived.”
“But you had the opportunity to save people, and do the ultimate good! Why would you give that up?”
“Ultimate good doesn’t buy toys! I didn’t just sit in some cave staring at the bats on the ceiling until I would hear someone calling. I had hobbies, and did things. And volunteer work doesn’t pay for a new graphics card. ...... Old technology, but somehow always gets inventent. Guess it’s real perfect in the way it works. I’m sure in, oh, I’d say, 7-800 years, you lot will also have those. too. But when I said ‘always gets invented’ that reminded me, did you know crabs have evolved over 15 times, completely separately from each other. It’s like nature really wants those things around. I just imagine Mother Nature being like this breen nerdy chick in an oversized turtleneck sweater, and she’s totally obsessed with this cute little crab picture with shiny eyes and everything, so she just keeps making them, just having crabs everywhere. ...... You don’t know what a crab is?”
“We’ve never heard of such an animal! What manner of mighty beast is it?”
“Ha, I wouldn’t exactly call them beasts, but picture these 2 large blacksmith tongs on its forelegs, and another 6 legs that look like spikes, 3 on each side, with a squat little body, and everything is covered in this real hard armor. You really never heard of them?”
“They sound terrifying, why, even I might be taken aback by such a foe!”
“Less of a foe, and more of a dinner, to tell you the truth. They were pretty good, as far as I remember, though I haven’t exactly tasted them in a very long time, so who knows. You know, I haven’t exactly seen any around either, so they might have gone extinct in the time I’ve spent here. Imagine Mother Nature grew bored of the things after some time, ha! But I’m speaking too much, you guys tell me something, how did you meet?”
“Oh, that’s a wonderful tale! I had just arrived into town, armor shined, and chin high. You know, this is my first real adventure, as I have only trained before.”
“That would explain you actually talking to me. All the old grizzled veterans really just went to kill me usually with a yell that is supposed to be scary, but honestly, it’s just stupid, flailing about like madmen.”
“Of course, noone benefits from a shout in combat and you would only distract yourself by doing so, it is the basics of armed combat.”
“I personally prefer the completely silent approach, where I just wipe the floor with the opponent, without so much as saying a single word. That way the victory is sweeter! ...... Ah yeah, sorry, you were saying?”
“Ahem, yes, and I was looking for work. At first, everyone would walk past me, not looking at me. Even in the tavern, I would only get single word responses from the owner. It was likely how young I look, and noone trusted in my skills.”
“I have to say, you do have quite the baby face”
“Well, I was getting desperate, and it was soon becoming night time. I had just stuffed my pack under my head and trying to go to sleep on a bench in the town center, when she walked by! She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen! Her hair - perfectly styled, the dress - waving behind her, her eyes - reflecting the street lights. My mouth was agape! Then I saw a shadow following her. It was a hooded figure, but it was clearly a man. I decided I would follow. The figure was just staying out of sight for her, and me - out of sight for him. Eventually, she was about to go home, when I saw the man rush towards her, taking out a dagger. I acted before I could think, drawing my blade and throwing it at the man, who got pierced, let out a loud yell, alerting everyone of his presence, and most importantly, alerting her. ...... Aw, think nothing of it, I would have done it for anyone, but for you, it gave me great joy to be able save you, as I did. But she was quite terrified, so she rushed inside.”
“And you just kinda, killed a guy, and happy end?”
“Not exactly. While I was cleaning my sword, some city watch arrived, and questioned me about what had happened. Apparently, the man was a well known tanner, and he was doing a good job at what he did, and I was just a stranger that had walked into town and had killed a person. Well, things were starting to get fiery, when she came out, and defended me! Using her little board, she explained to the guards what had happened, and how I saved her. They let it go, and took the body away, while she invited me over for dinner and she let me stay the night, in front of her fireplace, so I don’t freeze outside.”
“Well, that was sweet of you. He was a stranger to you, a guy with a bloody sword, essentially, yet you defended him. Not many people would do something like that... ...... No no, Just thinking out loud. Do you guys have any plans for the evening?”
“Yes, we will be having dinner in this eatery hall in town - The Black Goose. I’ve heard that they have this special type of roast, where they first boil the whole cleaned goose in lard and herbs for 4 hours, and then roast it on an open flame so it gets this well roasted outside, and I have just been anticipating going there.”
“What do you think? ...... Yeah, it does sound a little heavy, but maybe they have some vegetables they made in the lard. Good luck on your date!”
“I am not familiar with that word, but we will make sure to enjoy our outing, won’t we?”
“You do that! And tell me how the duck is tomorrow!”
“We’ll bring some back for you.”
“You do realise I can’t actually eat it, right? Like, I have no mouth”
“It matters not, as I like to say, what truly matters is that the people close to you, paid you mind.”
“A little clunky and long, don’t you think? Wouldn’t ‘It’s the thought that counts’ work better? Same meaning, just a little shorter”
“Hmm, I do prefer my version better, but I thank you for your input. I truly do value it! Well, we’re off! We’ll see you later!”
