How Can iPhone App Development Companies Benefit My Business?

In today’s digital-first world, mobile applications are no longer a luxury — they’re a business necessity. With over a billion active iPhone users globally, iOS apps have become a powerful medium for businesses to connect with customers, streamline operations, and drive growth. But creating a successful iPhone app isn’t as simple as having an idea — it requires a strategic, technical, and design-oriented approach. This is where partnering with a professional iPhone app development company in London can be a game-changer for your business.
Whether you’re a startup, SME, or enterprise, leveraging the skills of a mobile app development company in London can bring measurable benefits. In this article, we explore how working with expert mobile app designers in London and developers can take your business to the next level.
1. Expertise in iOS Ecosystem
An experienced app development company in London has a deep understanding of Apple’s development ecosystem. From Swift programming to UIKit, Xcode, Core Data, and ARKit — they are proficient in the tools and technologies needed to build a high-performance iOS app.
They also stay updated with Apple’s guidelines and the latest iOS updates, ensuring that your app is compliant, optimized, and future-proof. This technical edge can be the difference between an app that works and an app that wows.
Benefit:
You gain a high-quality, Apple-compliant app without the trial-and-error of in-house experimentation.
2. Tailored Business Solutions
Unlike generic app builders, a mobile app development company in London offers customized solutions based on your unique business needs, target audience, and industry.
Whether you need an eCommerce platform, a booking system, a customer loyalty app, or a productivity tool, they can tailor features and design to align perfectly with your business goals. This results in a better user experience and a higher return on investment.
Benefit:
Your app is not just functional but strategically aligned with your business model and customer journey.
3. UX/UI Excellence from Local Designers
The success of an app hinges not only on what it does, but how it feels to use. That’s where the role of mobile app designers in London becomes crucial. Professional designers focus on creating intuitive user experiences and visually appealing interfaces that resonate with your brand and users.
By understanding local user behavior and design trends, app designers in London can build interfaces that are not only beautiful but also functional and culturally relevant.
Benefit:
Enhanced user engagement and retention due to a smooth, well-designed user interface.
4. Faster Time-to-Market
Time is money, especially in today’s fast-paced digital landscape. A reliable app developer in London brings project management skills and an efficient development process that significantly reduces the time from concept to launch.
From agile development methodologies to sprint planning and automated testing, a professional team ensures your app is delivered on time without compromising on quality.
Benefit:
Get your app to market quickly, capitalize on trends, and gain a competitive edge.
5. Ongoing Support and Maintenance
App development doesn’t end at launch. Bugs appear, user feedback rolls in, and iOS updates can impact app performance. A long-term partnership with an app development company in London ensures ongoing support, updates, and maintenance to keep your app running smoothly.
This kind of proactive relationship ensures your business app remains competitive and compatible with future iOS devices and system upgrades.
Benefit:
Peace of mind knowing your app is supported and maintained by professionals.
6. Cost Efficiency and Resource Optimization
Hiring an in-house team of developers, designers, testers, and project managers can be expensive and time-consuming. Outsourcing to a specialized mobile app developer in London allows you to access a full team of experts at a fraction of the cost.
You only pay for the services you need, when you need them, making budgeting more predictable and manageable — especially for startups and small businesses.
Benefit:
Significant cost savings without sacrificing quality or capability.
7. Security and Compliance
Data privacy and app security are critical in today’s regulatory environment. Apple is known for its stringent app store guidelines and security standards. A knowledgeable mobile app development company in London will prioritize secure coding practices, encryption, and compliance with GDPR and other local data protection laws.
They also understand Apple’s App Store review process, reducing the risk of rejection due to security or privacy issues.
Benefit:
Your business and users are protected, reducing liability and enhancing trust.
8. Scalability and Flexibility
As your business grows, your app needs to grow with it. A capable app developer in London builds apps with scalability in mind — meaning you can add new features, handle more users, or expand into new markets without needing to rebuild from scratch.
This adaptability is crucial for businesses looking to scale quickly or pivot based on market feedback.
Benefit:
Future-proof development that accommodates growth and innovation.
9. Competitive Advantage
In a city as vibrant and tech-savvy as London, standing out is tough. A professionally developed app can provide a distinct competitive edge, especially if your competitors rely on off-the-shelf solutions.
Custom features, superior user experience, and integrated analytics give your business the insights and functionality it needs to outperform the competition.
Benefit:
Higher brand credibility, customer loyalty, and market share.
10. Localized Insight and Collaboration
Working with a mobile app developer in London means you benefit from local market knowledge. They understand UK consumer behavior, regulatory environments, and cultural nuances that an overseas developer might miss.
Plus, being in the same time zone makes communication, collaboration, and face-to-face meetings much easier — essential for complex or ongoing projects.
Benefit:
Stronger collaboration and localized strategy for greater app success.
Final Thoughts: Invest in Long-Term Value
Investing in iPhone app development isn’t just about building an app — it’s about building a digital asset for your business. The right app development company in London doesn’t just deliver code; they deliver value in the form of customer engagement, operational efficiency, brand recognition, and revenue growth.
Whether you’re launching a new startup, expanding your digital reach, or reimagining your business model, choosing the right development partner can make all the difference. From design and development to deployment and support, mobile app designers in London and developers offer the local expertise and technical skill needed to ensure your app succeeds.
In a hyper-connected city like London, where innovation drives business success, your app could be the most powerful tool you invest in this year.
Need help with iPhone app development? Partner with a top-rated mobile app development company in London and turn your business vision into a powerful mobile experience. The local population in countries that export bananas typically eat different varieties grown primarily by small farmers. The ones for the Americans and the Europeans, Cavendish variety bananas, are grown in huge, monoculture plantations that are susceptible to disease. The banana industry consumes more agrichemicals than any other in the world, asides from cotton. Most plantations will spend more on pesticides than on wages. Pesticides are sprayed by plane, 85% of which does not land on the bananas and instead lands on the homes of workers in the surrounding area and seeps into the groundwater. The results are cancers, stillbirths, and dead rivers.
The supermarkets dominate the banana trade and force the price of bananas down. Plantations resolve this issue by intensifying and degrading working conditions. Banana workers will work for up to 14 hours a day in tropical heat, without overtime pay, for 6 days a week. Their wages will not cover their cost of housing, food, and education for their children. On most plantations independent trade unions are, of course, suppressed. Contracts are insecure, or workers are hired through intermediaries, and troublemakers are not invited back.
Who benefits most from this arrangement? The export value of bananas is worth $8bn - the retail value of these bananas is worth $25bn. Here's a breakdown of who gets what from the sale of banana in the EU.
On average, the banana workers get between 5 and 9% of the total value, while the retailers capture between 36 to 43% of the value. So if you got a bunch of bananas at Tesco (the majority of UK bananas come from Costa Rica) for 95p, 6.65p would go to the banana workers, and 38p would go to Tesco.
Furthermore, when it comes to calculating a country's GDP (the total sum of the value of economic activity going on in a country, which is used to measure how rich or poor a country is, how fast its economy is 'growing' and therefore how valuable their currency is on the world market, how valuable its government bonds, its claim on resources internationally…etc), the worker wages, production, export numbers count towards the country producing the banana, while retail, ripening, tariffs, and shipping & import will count towards the importing country. A country like Costa Rica will participate has to participate in this arrangement as it needs ‘hard’ (i.e. Western) currencies in order to import essential commodities on the world market.
So for the example above of a bunch of Costa Rican bananas sold in a UK supermarket, 20.7p will be added to Costa Rica’s GDP while 74.3p will be added to the UK’s GDP. Therefore, the consumption of a banana in the UK will add more to the UK’s wealth than growing it will to Costa Rica’s. The same holds for Bangladeshi t-shirts, iPhones assembled in China, chocolate made with cocoa from Ghana…it’s the heart of how the capitalism of the ‘developed’ economy functions. Never ending consumption to fuel the appearance of wealth, fuelled by the exploitation of both land and people in the global south.

Canada shouldn’t retaliate with its US tariffs

Picks and Shovels is a new, standalone technothriller starring Marty Hench, my two-fisted, hard-fighting, tech-scam-busting forensic accountant. You can pre-order it on my latest Kickstarter, which features a brilliant audiobook read by Wil Wheaton.
Five years ago, Trump touted his "big, beautiful" replacement for NAFTA, the "free trade agreement" between the US, Mexico and Canada. Trump's NAFTA-2 was called the USMCA (US-Mexico-Canada Agreement) and it was pretty similar to NAFTA, to be honest.
That tells you a couple things: first, NAFTA was, broadly speaking a good thing for Trump and the ultra-wealthy donors who backed him (and got far richer as a result). That's why he kept it intact. NAFTA and USMCA are, at root, a way to make rich people richer by making poorer people poorer. Trump's base hated NAFTA because they (correctly) believed that it was being used to erode wages by chasing cheaper labor and more lax environmental controls in other countries. Neither NAFTA nor USMCA have any stipulations requiring exported goods to be manufactured by unionized workers, or in factories with robust environmental and workplace safety rules.
The point of NAFTA/USMCA is to goose profits by despoiling the environment, maiming workers, stealing their wages, paying them less, all while poisoning the Earth. Trump's "new" NAFTA was just the old NAFTA with some largely cosmetic changes so that Trump's base could be (temporarily) fooled into thinking Trump was righting the historic wrong of NAFTA.
However, there was one part of USMCA that marked a huge departure from NAFTA: the "IP" chapter. USCMA bound Canada and Mexico to implementing brutal new IP laws. For example, Mexico was forced to pass an anti-circumvention law that makes it a crime to tamper with "digital locks." This means that Mexican mechanics can't bypass the locks US car companies use to lock-out third party repair. Mexican farmers can't fix their own tractors. And, of course, Mexican software developers can't make alternative app stores for games consoles and mobile devices – they must sell their software through US Big Tech companies that take 30% of every sale:
https://pluralistic.net/2020/09/09/free-sample/#que-viva
Shamefully, Canada had already capitulated to most of these demands. Two Canadian Conservative Party politicians, Tony Clement and James Moore, had sold the country out in 2012, throwing away 6,138 negative responses to a consultation on a new DRM law (on the grounds that they were "babyish" views of "radical extremists"), siding instead with the 54 cranks and industry shills who supported their proposal:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/11/15/radical-extremists/#sex-pest
When Canadian politicians are pressed on why these anti-interoperability policies are good for Canada, they'll say that it's a condition of free trade, and the benefits of being able to export Canadian goods to the US without tariffs outweigh the costs of having to pay rents to American companies for consumables (like car parts or printer ink), repair, and software sales.
Sure, when Canadian software authors sell iPhone apps to Canadian customers, the payments take a round trip through Cupertino, California and return 30% short. But Canadian consumers get to buy iPhones without paying tariffs on them, and the oil, timber, and minerals we rip out of the ground can be sent to America without tariffs, either (oh, also, a few things that are still manufactured in Canada can do this, too).
Enter Trump, carrying a 25% tariff on all Canadian goods, which he has vowed to impose on his first day in office. Obviously, this demands a policy response. What should Canada do when Trump tears up his "big, beautiful" trade deal and whacks Canadian exporters? One obvious response is to impose a 25% retaliatory tariff on American exporters:
https://mishtalk.com/economics/canada-says-it-will-match-us-tariffs-if-trump-launches-trade-war/
After all, Canada and the US are one another's mutual largest trading partners. American businesses rely on selling things to Canadians, so a massive tariff on US goods will certainly make some of Trump's business-lobby backers feel pain, and maybe they'll talk some sense into him.
I think this would be a huge mistake. The most potent political lesson of the past four years is that politicians who preside over rising prices – regardless of their role in causing them – will swiftly feel the wrath of their voters. The public is furious about inflation, whether it comes from transient covid supply chain shocks, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, or cartels using "inflation" as cover for illegal, collusive price-gouging.
Canadians are very reliant on American imports of finished goods. That's another legacy of NAFTA: it crashed Canada's manufacturing sector. Canadian manufacturing companies treated the US as a "nearshore" source of non-union labor and weak environmental and safety rules, and shipped Canadian union jobs to American scabs. Canada's economy is supposedly now all about "services" but what we really export is stuff we tear out of the Earth.
Countries that are organized around resource extraction don't need fancy social safety nets or an educational system capable of producing a high-tech workforce. All you need to extract resources is a hole in the ground surrounded by guns, which explains a lot about shifts to the Canadian political climate since the Mulroney years.
Since Canada is now substantially reorganized as an open-pit mine for American manufacturers, cutting off American imports would drive the prices of everyday good sky-high, and would be political suicide.
But there's another way.
Because, of course, Canada – like any other country – has the capacity to make all kinds of things, including high-tech things. Sure, it's unlikely that Canada will launch another Research in Motion with a Blackberry smart-phone that will put the iPhone and Android in the shade. The mobile duopoly has the market sewn up, and can use predatory pricing, refusal to deal, and other anticompetitive tactics to strangle any competitor in its cradle.
But you know what Canada could make? A Canadian App Store. That's a store that Canadian software authors could use to sell Canadian apps to Canadian customers, charging, say, the standard payment processing fee of 5% rather than Apple's 30%. Canada could make app stores for the Android, Playstation and Xbox, too.
There's no reason that a Canadian app store would have to confine itself to Canadian software authors, either. Canadian app stores could offer 5% commissions on sales to US and global software authors, and provide jailbreaking kits that allows device owners all around the world to install the Canadian app stores where software authors don't get ripped off by American Big Tech companies.
Canadian companies like Honeybee already make "front-ends" for John Deere tractors – these are the components that turn a tractor into a plow, or a thresher, or another piece of heavy agricultural equipment. Honeybee struggles constantly to get its products to interface with Deere tractors, because Deere uses digital locks to block its products:
https://honeybee.ca/
Canada could produce jailbreaking kits for John Deere tractors, too – not just for Honeybee. Every ag-tech company in the world would benefit from commercially available, professionally supported John Deere jailbreaking kits. So would farmers, because these kits would restore farmers' Right to Repair their own tractors:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/05/08/about-those-kill-switched-ukrainian-tractors/
Speaking of repair: Canadian companies could jailbreak every make and model of every US automobile, and make independent, constantly updated diagnostic tools that every mechanic in the world could buy for hundreds of dollars, rather than paying the five-figure ransom that car makers charge for their own underpowered, junk versions of these tools.
Jailbreaking cars doesn't stop with repair, either. Cars like the Tesla are basically giant rent-extraction machines. If you want to use all the "features" your Tesla ships with – like access to the full charge on your battery – you have to pay tens of thousands of dollars in subscription fees over the life of the car, and when you sell your car, all that "downloadable content" is clawed back. No one will pay extra to buy your used Tesla just because you spent thousands on manufacturer upgrades, because they're all downgraded when you sign over the pink slip.
But Canadian companies could make jailbreaking kits for Teslas that unlock all the features in the car for a single low price – and again, they could sell these to every Tesla owner in the world.
Elon Musk doesn't invent anything, he just takes credit for other people's ideas, and that's as true of bad ideas as it is for good ones. Musk didn't invent the extractive Tesla rip-off: he stole it from inkjet printer companies like HP, who have used the fact that jailbreaking is illegal to turn printer ink into the most expensive fluid in the world, selling for more than $10,000/gallon.
Canadian companies could sell jailbreaking kits for inkjet printers that disconnect them from "subscription" services and disable the anti-features that check for and reject third party ink. People all over the world would buy these.
What's standing in the way of a Canadian industrial policy that focuses on raiding the sky-high margins of American monopolists with third-party add-ons, mods and jailbreaks?
Only the IP laws that Canada has agreed to in order to get tariff-free access to American markets. You know, the access that Trump has promised to end in less than a week's time?
Canada should tear up these laws – and not impose tariffs on American goods. That way, Canadians can still buy cheap American goods, and then they can save billions of dollars every year on the consumables, parts, software, and service for those goods.
This is hurting American big business where it hurts – in the ongoing rents it extracts from Canadians through IP laws like Bill C-11 (the law that bans jailbreaking). Canada could become a global high-tech export powerhouse, selling "complementary" goods that disenshittify all the worst practices of US tech monopolists, from car parts to insulin pumps.
It's the only kind of trade war that Canadian politicians can win against Americans: the kind where prices for Canadians don't go up because of tariffs; where the price of apps, repair, parts, and upgrades goes way down; and where a new, high-tech manufacturing sector pulls in vast sums from customers all over the world.
Canada can win this kind of war, even against a country as big and powerful as the USA. After all, we did it once before:

But I’m Gonna Get You Back
Lee Russell x Vice Principal!Reader
Summary: Lee uses revenge against Dr. Brown as an excuse to fulfill a fantasy of you he has had.
CW: friends with benefits, p in v, public sex, spanking, creampie, mentions of porn
a/n: changing timeline here a bit, so that Lee was going through his divorce right before Dr. Brown was hired
title track 🎶📸
~~~
“There you go, sweetheart,” Lee groaned as he bottomed out inside you. One hand grasping the meat of your hip while the other wrapped around his iPhone. He had you exactly where he wanted to. Skirt hiked up over your ass while bent over the desk.
Making sure to get everything in the shot as he began sliding in and out of you. Cock lathered in the wetness dripping from your folds.
Lee was a cocky son-of-a-bitch, there was no doubt about that. Loving to hear his own head roar, constantly checking himself out in the mirror, thinking he’s the smartest and cleverest in every room he’s in. So when the idea struck him to film himself fucking his long term work fling, he felt like a modern Da Vinci.
Taking his time to pull in and out of you. Loving the sight of his length penetrating your cunt. Especially when he would hit a spot that caused you to moan his name.
Porn never was something Lee cared all that much for. Finding himself critiquing the facial expression and likelihood of the situations that played out. Opting to just rub one out in the shower then even take the time of finding a cheap porno. Easier than trying to fake his attraction for some woman with massive, fake tits.
But, you?
You never failed to get him going.
Ever since the first time the two of you had stayed late together, you were the apple of his eye. Finding comfort in you in a time of divorce. Really, he had never been in love with Christine. Only wanting her so someone else could not have her. He was bitter that way.
Of course, he had originally seen you as competition for the Principal position at North Jackson. Hating the stupidly short skirts you wore everyday. How your cleavage hung out of your tops more often than not. But really hating how kind you were.
Gamby and Russell were hard-asses. Faking nice when it convenienced them. Always plotting someone’s demise; whether it be catching a student they knew was doing some shady-illegal shit, or a teacher they both hated. Especially hating each other. Only finding friendship at the shared hatred for Dr. Belinda Brown.
But you could never fake it. Always trying to stick up for people, especially the students. No matter how hard Russell or Gamby tried to insult you, you would simply allow it to fall off your shoulders. Unbothered.
That was until you did not get the Principal job. Fully convinced you were the most deserving amongst your peers. Enraged that the school board had just brought some random in. Unraveling and having to take your anger out in the clearing behind the school. Screaming so loud that birds flocked away.
The first time Gamby and Russell had seen you break. Not knowing you were in company when you had hid yourself away. That was when you all decided to get Belinda out.
Your bond with your coworkers had deepened over the time of mischief and questionably-legal activities. Learning that maybe they were all you needed. Even considering them friends.
So when you got some awkward butterflies when Lee would give you an “atta girl”, you got confused. Developing some kind of crush on your fellow Vice Principal was the last thing you imagined when getting involved with the two. Pushing the feeling deep down as to not get distracted.
Until you had went out for Payday Drinks and had one too many. Drunkenly confessing in Gamby’s backseat as you laid against Lee’s shoulder. Mumbling how he had overtaken your mind and how you felt a flip in your stomach every time he looked you in the eyes. Only really remembering the bright smile that came across Lee’s face when he realized you were serious. You were so drunk that Lee stayed with you, holding your hair while you hacked into your toilet. Hugging the bowl and crying because you were so embarrassed.
Next morning being greeted by the source of your embarrassment asleep on your couch. Discussing the night before over breakfast. Not that either of you ended up eating it. Too quick with connecting mouths and tangling in your sheets.
Neither of you looked back since.
Hooking up in supply closets or under the bleachers when one of you had an itch to scratch. Familiar with every scratch and scuff on his office floor. Almost having hooked up in every possible place in the building.
All except one.
Lee had suggested it as a way to “get back at that bitch, Brown.” Unsure how secretly getting fucked on her desk was exactly getting back at her. Not really caring either. Because the idea of getting railed by your coworker on the desk that should have rightfully been yours tingled inside you.
Sneaking in while Dr. Brown was off on some fake wild goose chase with Gamby. Lee had lied to convince him you would be wrecking her office while she was gone. Switching files around and shredding some. All just a ploy to get the office to yourselves.
“I wanted to ask something,” Lee’s dark tone fell along your skin as he kissed you.
“Hmm?” you hummed a response, lost in the feeling of him.
“Can I record this? That way I can have a physical reminder of this?” His big puppy dog eyes looked into yours. Chills trickled down your skin. Never having been filmed during sex. A hint of fear clouded the back of your mind. Fading when you felt his large fingers interlock with yours. Being slightly turned on by the idea.
“Sure,” you grinned. Capturing his lips with yours. Enamored by his lust blown eyes and the toothy grin across his face.
Which is how you ended up where you were now. Thick length buried inside your walls. Front flush against the Principal’s desk. Papers sliding under your palms as you attempted to brace yourself. Loving how perfectly he stretched you.
“Lee,” you whined. One of his hands gripped your ass. Swinging and planting a firm smack on the tender flesh. Gravely exhale falling from him.
“It’s like this pussy was made for me to fuck it,” his voice had dropped an octave. Snapping his hips aggressively into you. Chasing his own high, knowing he would have to pay you back later. Longing for the feeling of your walls spasming around him. Happy to have to fuck you again later to get that feeling.
White knuckles gripped the edge of the desk. Trying your hardest to not completely ruin the organization of files. But then remembering, this was Dr. Brown’s desk. Who gives a fuck if everything gets ruined?
Pencil holders and paper weights bounced against the linoleum. Previously alphabetized pages decorated the floor like a blanket of snow. Causing Lee to chuckle. Never stopping his movements into your core. Camera never leaving your backside.
Finally darting his eyes up to the clock ticking on the wall. Realizing he had been taking far too long enjoying you. Needing to hurry things along before the two of you were caught with your pants down.
“Gonna cum in you,” Lee grunted. You vigorously nodded. Loving the feeling of him seeping out of you. A gargled “fuck” fell from him as he pushed himself flush against you. Cock twitching as it sputtered into you. Coating your walls with his cum.
Sighing with a wince as he pulled out of you. Squatting down for a moment to capture the image of him leaking out of your core. Smiling ear to ear as he watched through his phone screen. Pretending he did not want to go right back and fuck you again.
“That’s it, honey,” Lee cooed. Pulling your panties back over your cunt. Making sure to keep his seed pressed into you. Sliding his phone in his pocket as he rose. Holding your position for a moment as you attempted to catch your breath. Pushing the remainder of nonsense on Dr. Brown’s desk as you stood to your feet.
Lee was quick to spin you around and plant a feverish kiss on your lips, “That pussy never quits, hmm?” Smiling with a low chuckle.
Both of you realized the time and began scrambling. Throwing stuff around, flipping her chair upside down, tipping over a filing cabinet or two. Adrenaline running high as your body shook with afterglow and nerves.
“We’ve gotta go,” you pointed to the clock. There was barely any time left before Gamby and Dr. Brown would be back. Quickly running out of her office. Composing yourselves before anyone saw you. Flattening your clothes and hair down. Both of your faces still flushed. Tucking away into Lee’s nearby office to pretend like you were having a meeting. Logging onto his computer to make sure and delete the footage of you entering and exiting Dr. Brown’s office.
Finally able to breathe when you sat across from Lee. Eyes falling shut as you grasped your chest to catch air. Lee leaned back in his chair, hands gripping the back of his head as he laughed. “That was fucking incredible,” he exhaled. You shifted in your seat feeling Lee’s seed leaking into the fabric of your panties. Still struggling to catch your breath with the adrenaline rush you were feeling.
Sitting in a comfortable silence until Dr. Brown’s scream jolted you both aware. Eyes wider than ever before as you both rushed over to fake concern. Lee stormed in first, teeth locked together as his eyebrows jumped up his forehead. Finding Dr. Brown and Gamby both standing stunned by the mess. Gamby’s eyes were huge when they met yours, clearly not expecting the overkill you and Lee had done. You shrugged right before Dr. Brown turned to look at you both.
“Who the hell would have done this to me?!” She stomped her foot on the floor with disdain.
“Jesus… I’ll go grab one of the janitors, this is just terrible,” Lee grasped at his heart.
Soft lump of guilt piled up in your stomach. Having to keep your false face as you mouthed words that did not escape. Shocked, atleast pretending so.
“We need to check the cameras,” Dr. Brown sternly said.
Pulling a smirk across your mind. Knowing she would not find anything. Knowing you had bested her again. Giving Gamby a knowing look.
Not long until you ran her off.
dee rebelpeas is on her patreon arc
hi! do YOU want to support a fellow overachieving queer disabled artist for the low low price of $1USD per month? WELL fantastic news: you now can give me money!
in addition to behind-the-scenes patreon-exclusive posts sharing wips, speedpaints, and monthly art dumps, you will also be able to see the process within my beautiful mind as i hop from one artistic endeavour to another. because, yes, this art is not limited to exclusively drawings. you’ll also find creative writing, poetry, maybe an essay or two, textile arts and patterns, video game development, minecraft coding, skin design, and custom modeling, and literally anything else that may catch my interest for the next three months.
this also includes plenty of cool sick free downloads for you. wallpapers, game demos, modpacks, those icons for custom iphone homescreen layouts… you get the idea.
but wait, there’s MORE?? you also get first dibs on deciding what i draw: drawing requests, commission slots, and anything where i ask my audience for advice/suggestions will be opened on my patreon first. remember when i made dress-up games and picrews? when/if i make another one, my patrons will be able to suggest hairstyles, clothing pieces, and other accessories for me to add!
all that for JUST $1?! yup! but if you really want to, there is also a $5 tier. there’s no extra benefits, and all my patrons will be loved and adored equally. but if you want to give me five times the money out of the very goodness of your heart, who am i to stop you?
thanks everyone for all your support! bits aside, i appreciate you all so much and im so grateful for each and every one of you 🫶
F1 and Biometrics
Biometric gloves came into play in F1 in 2018 to give medical teams immediate access to important information regarding driver conditions after an incident. It allows for vitals to be measured before, at the time of an incident and after the crash until they are rescued and more advanced monitoring is able to be applied. It is also a big help if a driver is involved in a crash that means they are not accessible straight away or cannot be visualized for monitoring so this allows teams to get immediate access to this information.
According to the FIA website, this was a difficulty by medical teams when Carlos Sainz crashed in the 2015 Russian GP where he hit the barrier head-on at 153km/h (roughly 95mph). The first row of the barrier was resting on top of him, so medical teams had to wait for this to be removed before they had access to him. Thankfully he wasn’t hurt during this crash, but medical teams didn’t know this initially as this technology wasn’t available and being used.
The sensors were basically made custom to F1 drivers. Regular sensors had not been fire tested and were not comfortable enough for the drivers to wear for long races. They use Bluetooth technology and can send data within a 500m and are powered by a small battery that drivers charge before races.
Drivers gloves have a 3mm sensor that is stitched into the palm of the fabric and monitors their vital signs during races. They measure pulse oximetry which measures the amount of oxygen being carried in the blood as well as drivers pulse rates. Obviously if a driver has an injury that is affecting their breathing, this will show in the saturations that would decline rapidly. Having this technology allows physiological readings and biometrics to be continuously monitored throughout the race from start to finish. Data from the sensor transmits to an iPhone app and gives medical crews remote and advance information on the driver’s condition. The small biometric readers are flexible and fire resistant up to 1,800 degrees Celsius (3,272 degrees Fahrenheit) for 22 seconds.
In the future there are even plans to implement sensors for respiratory rate and temperature to further monitor drivers which will not only enhance safety features but allow teams and drivers to monitor performance better.
OMP, an equipment supplier, has been developing wearable biometric monitoring systems since the introduction of the biometric sensors in 2019. An undershirt equipped with sensors and a measurement unit would transmit and record biometric data allowing for real-time monitoring of health through ECG and thoracic expansion. This would allow monitoring of drivers heart rhythms and breathing rate which would not only benefit medical teams in the case of an incident but also help identify stress, fatigue and any alteration in conditions. This would be useful considering the amount of stress drivers have been put through in the past in hot countries for example Saudi Arabia GP 2023 when many drivers retired, had to be taken to medical, threw up in their helmets or passed out after the race.
TV crews can also display biometric data during broadcasts to show the physical condition of a driver as they battle on track. However, there have been questions about the ethics and use of biometrics and why can’t we as an audience see drivers heart rates etc on screen if this data is being constantly collected. The FIA has strict guidelines about the use of raw biometric data. Section 2.4 of the FIA Guidelines for the Collection and Usage of Biometric Data in Motorsport, states that the use of biometric data can be used for more than just medical and performance monitoring and can be used for entertainment and marketing purposes but only if it is changed from raw data into a variable to protect the private health information of the driver. The FIA won’t allow the use of biometric data to be publicly available in the original form/ measurement unless the driver provides informed consent.
Essentially, driver onboard vitals are likely not to be available live due to strict laws on data protection and sharing health related information about drivers as it is protected health information. In the case of an accident or emergency, data is not allowed to be used even if the information is changed to protect the driver unless it is for medical and rescue use and post-accident information.
This also led me down a rabbit hole and found another study (it was anonymous but if you’re a sleuth you can probably take a guess at what F1 driver it was) where they monitored his heart rate during qualifying to see what his average was throughout the race to test the cardiovascular strain F1 drivers are put under!
It is I, povvo bitch, swooping in with my cape—because apparently, the middle class have decided they need a hero to explain why Lola Young is, in fact, a nepo baby.
Now, I’m sure many people do, but personally, I don’t see Young as a nepo baby just because her aunt chucked out The Gruffalo. I see her as a nepotism baby because of that success, conjoined with growing up middle-class around successful creatives, in a city that has removed barriers like travel and has an abundance of creative communities.
To put it simply: artists like Lola Young have connections to the creative world that the vast majority of working-class people simply do not have.
Working-class people aren’t disappearing from the arts because they’ve gotten less creative—it’s because wealth inequality and poverty have grown. And the even more uncomfortable truth? Benefits helped that. They levelled the playing field when the cost of living wasn’t so bad.
They gave working-class creatives the time and space to make art. They could move to major cities like London and Manchester, access creative communities, build their craft. Maybe even attain a career and wealth through that, and pay back into the tax system that made it possible to fulfil what is, ultimately, a pipe dream for working-class people now.
The cost of living makes it impossible to get through the whole month with money in your account. And we’re not talking about not being able to go out with the girlies and sip on Aperol. We’re talking about not being able to buy food. Late bills. The mounding fear of how much worse things will get.
There is no ‘safety net’ for working-class people. No hotel of Mum and Dad. No life where you can ‘opt out’ of stress. You can’t just take a deep breath and free fall into your art—there is NOTHING that will catch you. No reassurance that if you fail, you’ll still be fine.
You know what doesn’t mix with creating art? Exhaustion. Panic. The kind of stress where you’re not just choosing between paying rent or eating, but actively wondering if you’ll have a home in six months. Creating art requires time, and time is a luxury for people who aren’t stretched to their absolute fucking limit.
It’s not just about making art—it’s about accessing it. Want to go to a museum? Sure, if it’s free entry. But how much is a train ticket if you don’t live in a city? What if you have kids—how are you paying for their tickets? What if you want your kids to access art but literally do not have the money to do so?
Want to go to a gig? Cool. Except our music venues have been gutted—replaced with ugly fucking flats owned by developers. Worse yet? Said abhorrent developers build opposite a music venue, and the complaints from residents build and build until the council threatens to close these community hubs—often the only means of hope for young people. Plays? Forget about it. And even if you do scrape the money together, do you want to be looked at like you don’t belong there?
Now, you want to make art? Okay… But you probably don’t know anybody else who actively pursues it. Not only is the idea of making art foreign, but the world where people actually do it feels untouchable—filled with privileged people who’d rather argue about that reality than look around and realise working-class people are ceasing to exist in those spaces.
But hey, TikTok exists, right? You can home-record using just your iPhone, GarageBand—if you have those. If you have the time, the mental headspace, the ability to do so while life as a working-class person feels like a ticking time bomb.
Want a manager? They only scout in places like London, and those ‘creative communities’ are just people who went to Brit School or had industry connections before they ever picked up a guitar. If you live in an army town in England, you’re not exactly bounding between music venues, casually networking your way into the industry.
And the most laughable thing? The argument that going to Brit School doesn’t mean you’re privileged. I would just like to add that I have literally not been able to take internships because they didn’t cover travel expenses. There is no reality where I could have afforded the train fare, eaten, and still paid my bills. The assumption that accessing these institutions isn’t a privilege in itself is fucking wild to me. Yet again, ignorance is screaming.
Nothing speaks to the lack of class consciousness of middle-class folk more than them desperately shaking you by the shoulders, trying to get their ‘struggle’ credentials by telling you they ‘had hand-me-downs too!’ Real. Struggle. What they exhibit, time and time again, is an unrelenting ignorance of the actual working-class experience. We aren’t struggling with hand-me-downs. We’re struggling with generational poverty and the complete demise of social mobility. What little stability we had is now forever up for grabs.
It’s frankly fucking exhausting seeing middle-class people perform mental gymnastics to pearl-clutch that they aren’t the problem, when in reality, they aren’t even listening to working-class people. They’re just circle-jerking other middle-class folk, convincing themselves they aren’t part of the problem while excreting ignorance at every possible opportunity.
I know why this is a touchy subject—because for those who put effort into their art, it feels like the accusation of nepotism takes away from that. And maybe it does. However, if you’re truly committed to equality, committed to class consciousness, you wouldn’t prioritise those feelings of unfairness. You would be able to put yourself in a working-class person’s shoes and think… fuck… what would I have done if I had been born into a working-class family with manual labour jobs, in a small town with no music venues, expensive train fares, and all of my friends abandoned their dreams because reality smacked them around the face?
And fundamentally, I believe that people’s defensiveness about this topic is just their mind screaming at them that they don’t know enough to engage thoughtfully in the discussion.
And perhaps it’s just me, but I personally feel the industry’s alleged desire to ‘fix’ these issues is complete bullshit. Why? Because I’m still seeing music venue after music venue shut down. I’m still seeing privately educated folk dominate awards season. I’m still seeing these same people get on stage, chat absolute bollocks about diversity for over a minute, then go on tour with—shocker!—other incredibly privileged artists. You’d think platforming new voices would be the easiest way to change things, but no. Because it’s not about talent. It’s about social climbing, bum-licking, and birds of a feather sticking together.
It’s a fucking con. And the UK’s creative industries are worse off because of it. True diversity means people writing their own stories, with the time, energy, and support to actually make art—privileges only afforded to those with a lifeline, a trust fund, and the audacity to pretend they did it all alone.
Do companies such as Apple benefit from the fact that their phones cannot be updated after a certain number of years?
Companies, such as Apple, do tend to benefit from not allowing users to update their phones after a certain amount of time. Apple has been known for having the newest gadgets and the highest level of technology. People go as far as to describe it as a “luxury” brand. However, as many of us have probably experienced at some point, the IOS systems tend to run slower as time passes, making it hard for Apple users to keep up with the newest technology. They stop allowing older phones to download the newer versions of IOS, apps run slower, storage space disappears in the blink of an eye, battery life decreases, etc. All of these things start happening so that users will seek out the latest iPhone and buy more items from Apple.
2. How does digital literacy feed into the digital divide in terms of older vs newer generations?
When looking at the digital literacy of previous generations, it’s very different than younger generations. Older generations are used to platforms such as Facebook, AOL, MySpace, dial-up internet, etc. However, younger generations are hopping on all the new trends on a variety of social media platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, etc. When we compare these different does of communication, previous generations don’t have the same digital literacy as the newer generations because so much has changed in the last few years, and it’s hard to keep up with everything because things are constantly changing.
3. What are some of the potential limits of “the New Jim Code” and how do they affect people?
“The New Jim Code” is based on the previous “Jim Code Laws” which basically describe how things are changing in terms of technology. People are changing their opinions of things they see online and marking them as either objective or progressive, depending on the time period it’s coming from. This affects people because we tend to care a lot about how we are perceived by others, and whether or not they will agree with our views.
4. Why do people often complain about facial recognition? How can we fix this problem?
People complain about facial recognition technology because it’s often modeled after the generalized “white man.” I’ve also heard people say that this is just another way for the government to keep tabs on us, which may or may not be true. However, this code that was originally entered for facial recognition is failing humans because it is very inaccurate. For example, it’s basically implying that Black men and women look alike, and this is criminalizing innocent people. I think this problem should be taken into careful consideration and developed with more detail so that it can be more specific and precise, instead of putting innocent people behind bars for crimes they didn’t commit.
5. How does intersectionality coincide with social media?
Intersectionality is defined as a frame, which when used, is able to single out the issues within institutions that might have been previously overlooked. I’ve seen instances of intersectionality pop up across social media platforms because some people will point out something that a business or institution is doing wrong, and will create a lot of noise around it. This allows more people to see the issue and in turn, causes the company to make a change.
Hilarious Dodgeball (1994) 爆笑躲避球
Date: 1994 Platform: iPod / iPhone / iPad / Android Developer: panda Publisher: panda Genre: Sports Game Type: Crossover
Summary:
The dodgeball game produced by Panda in 1994 has quite funny characters. It's just that players who are not in control cannot pass the ball, and it is not easy to control the characters in control. For example, pressing Enter and the direction key at the same time on the sideline to kill the ball, but sometimes it will end up walking to the opponent's area. Put the ball on the ground; when using the secret technique and pressing in the wrong direction, sometimes you will hit the ball backwards, which is a benefit to the enemy, so it becomes more difficult to win.
convenience isn't that good
Everything is at the tip of our fingers today. You can buy clothes, food, home maintenance, and achieve a decent schooling all without leaving your home. But, is this really a good thing?
Before I delve into my opinions on this subject, I should address that there are certain groups that benefit with the modernization and rise of tech, like people with disabilities or autoimmune diseases that can’t leave their houses as easily as I can or women whose household burdens were eased through innovation. I’m choosing to focus on people who have the choice to experience inconvenience or some sort of discomfort but refuse to.
Up until the early 2010s, people had to memorize their friends’, families’, neighbors’ phone numbers. There wasn’t an easily accessible stored cloud to call upon. With the introduction of the iPhone in the late 2010s and the growing fixation on the ease that tech brought into our lives, people no longer had to rely on their memory. Not only does this create a separation between your connections with your community and your own brain, it also raises the issue of over dependence on technology to get by in daily life.
In school, students often use google to search up answers. In my language class,
most students choose to use google translate to complete our assignments rather than reading and understanding the material. While students cheated before phones and such, it was through friends or more generally the people around them.
Many people buy items online through platforms such as Amazon instead of going in store. But, by doing this, you lose all the meaningful interactions you would normally have in person. Maybe we haven’t learned our lesson from the pandemic, but social interaction is necessary even if you find small talk awkward. A lot of people don’t have social skills anymore; they don’t feel bad acting however they want towards others in public or online. It’s a shame how people prioritize ease over what life is really about: going out of your comfort zone to achieve belonging.
This convenience is also compounded by the hustle culture western society has promoted in more recent decades. While convenience started with industrialization in the 1800s, the overuse of plastic and damaging environment practices took hold in the latter half of the 1900s. People would rather go through a McDonald’s drive through and eat food filled with harmful chemicals than cook eggs at home, all in the name of efficiency. Who benefits from this? Corporations! Middle class and lower class workers, for example, deal with more and more health issues in America due to the convenience available by over-processed foods. These foods are pushed by businesses who want workers to be easily accessible and profitable to them. There are more issues related to this but this is the gist of it.
Ultimately, convenience is bad! We need to go out and talk to people and develop relationships with the people we surround ourselves with. Living in isolation and complacency just to achieve an easy life is damaging.
Apple has become the first big tech company to be charged with breaking the European Union’s new digital markets rules, three days after the tech giant said it would not release artificial intelligence in the bloc due to regulation.
On Monday, the European Commission said that Apple’s App Store was preventing developers from communicating with their users and promoting offers to them directly, a practice known as anti-steering.
“Our preliminary position is that Apple does not fully allow steering. Steering is key to ensure that app developers are less dependent on gatekeepers’ app stores and for consumers to be aware of better offers,” Margrethe Vestager, the EU’s competition chief said in a statement.
On X, the European commissioner for the internal market, Thierry Breton, gave a more damning assessment. “For too long Apple has been squeezing out innovative companies—denying consumers new opportunities and choices,” he said.
The EU referred to its Monday charges as “preliminary findings.” Apple now has the opportunity to respond to the charges and, if an agreement is not reached, the bloc has the power to levy fines—which can reach up to 10 percent of the company’s global turnover—before March 2025.
Tensions between Apple and the EU have been rising for months. Brussels opened an investigation into the smartphone maker in March over failure to comply with the bloc’s competition rules. Although investigations were also opened in Meta and Google-parent Alphabet, it is Apple’s relationship with European developers that has long been the focus in Brussels.
Back in March, one of the MEPs who negotiated the Digital Markets Act told WIRED that Apple was the logical first target for the new rules, describing the company as “low-hanging fruit.” Under the DMA it is illegal for big tech companies to preference their own services over rivals’.
Developers have seethed against the new business terms imposed on them by Apple, describing the company’s policies as “abusive,” “extortion,” and “ludicrously punitive.”
Apple spokesperson Rob Saunders said on Monday he was confident the company was in compliance with the law. “All developers doing business in the EU on the App Store have the opportunity to utilize the capabilities that we have introduced, including the ability to direct app users to the web to complete purchases at a very competitive rate,” he says.
On Friday, Apple said it would not release its artificial intelligence features in the EU this year due to what the company described as “regulatory uncertainties”. “Specifically, we are concerned that the interoperability requirements of the DMA could force us to compromise the integrity of our products in ways that risk user privacy and data security,” said Saunders in a statement. The features affected are iPhone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen Sharing enhancements, and Apple’s first foray into generative AI, Apple Intelligence.
Apple is not the only company to blame new EU rules for its decision to delay the roll out of new features. Last year, Google delayed the EU roll out of its ChatGPT rival Bard, and earlier in June Meta paused plans to train its AI on Europeans’ personal Facebook and Instagram data following discussions with privacy regulators. “This is a step backwards for European innovation, competition in AI development and further delays bringing the benefits of AI to people in Europe,” the company said at the time.
