For the ask game.
2., 12., 17., 21. and 25.
2. I want to eventually read Heaven Official's Blessing. I've watched the show and read the web comic and they were soooo good! I hope to buy the book someday.
Tumblr media
12. My favorite comfort drink is either green or raspberry tea 🍵
Tumblr media
17. My favorite character is the one, the only, Uncle Iroh from Avatar the Last Airbender! He is one of the best and wisest characters in tv/cartoon history! (rivaling with Master Oogway from Kung Fu Panda) I sometimes wish he was my irl uncle. (RIP Mako, the original voice of Iroh 💚💚💚)
Tumblr media
21. One thing that I want to try is air brush/spray painting. This method of painting seems very cool and beautiful, especially with all of the artwork I see people doing on buildings around town!
Tumblr media
25. One thing I love is when it's a cold and rainy day. That way, I can curl up in a warm blanket, drink some tea or cappuccino, and read a book or watch a show.

Hii! I saw your post about windbreaker match ups and wanted to try it. I’ve never done these before so sorry if its a bit awkward!
I’m considered a leader figure and a mother figure personality wise. Growing up a lot of people always depended on me in a nurturing way and I’d like to think i’m very motherly?? I’m a huge dork tho… (I’ve been told) who’s very passionate about learning (literally anything new) and I’m an extroverted introvert. Just overall i’m a huge nerd who loves learning and encouraging people to learn or improve and I love taking care of the people around me! I’m a generally cheerful person who always tries her best, though I get really embarrassed if people compliment me cause I’m not really used to it
My hobbies include learning (anything), studying what teas/herbs do for the body, like an apothecary, and studying. I love learning about natural medicines. When I’m not studying/learning I love practicing martial arts. I’m constantly trying out new techniques and moves from different styles… (but my base style is a lot of kung fu, taichi, and deflection)
I don’t have pets but would really love a cat or dog! One that is fluffy (pomsky, ragdoll). I’m a cat person in general though!
I’m a dark/light academia girl and my aesthetic of clothes and style are mostly shades of browns and neutral colors. I also wear a lot of turtlenecks. I’m really into the academia style
I didn’t grow up with alot of media aside from anime, so my favorite shows all time are fairy tail and inuyasha! Movie wise I love the Kung Fu Panda movies. Books… Probably the Witch of BlackBird Pond!
I hope this wasn’t too much of a bore to read :C… Make sure to drink water and take care of yourself! Thanks for listening to my character profile lolol
AH! this is my first match-up I’m so excited! >.<
Okay! To he honest my brain immediately went “oooh Umemiya!” but then I went no… wait…
Therefore I’m matching you with Hiragi!
I think this man needs some good balancing out, someone level headed that helps him manage his younger classmates (as well as the other 3rd years), but I also think he needs someone to help him cut loose!
Your study of teas and other remedies is something that you can use and it comes in handy. You brew him teas that not only taste good but help his stressed induced pains! Next thing you know he’s cutting down on his gaskun-10! Good job!
I can also imagine Hiragi as the guy who agrees to adopt a pet because you want to, but swears up and down he won’t grow attached. Then you go to his one day and see your cat napping, cuddled on up a sleeping Hiragi’s chest.
Not attached? Sure.
I also feel like he’s the kind of boyfriend who would spar with you! Yes, he pulls his punches, but because the way you two fight is different in styles, and he doesn’t actually want to hurt you. So you show him new martial arts moves you learn, you have occasionally knocked him onto his ass, and he always feels so proud about it.
He casually brags about it whenever he can. (so all the time)
He’s also the kind of boyfriend who hears you mention a topic you’re interested in once, and next thing you know he’s bought you books about said topic, taking you to a museum or event that deals with said topic, and loves to listen to you talk about all the things you’ve learned!

get to know me tag! i can’t remember the last time i did one of these, it was probably like 3 tumblr accounts and a decade ago lol. thank you @edwinamistressofthecart for the tag!!
do you make your bed? no but next question let’s not talk about it
what's your job? just finished undergrad and am on the full-time job hunt for the first time what if i died
if you could go back to school, would you? at this stage in my life the only way you are forcing me back into full-time studenthood is if you’re keeping me at gunpoint the whole time. But grad school is still definitely something i’m planning on doing in the future so eventually (or not so eventually) yes 😞
can you parallel park? yes!! but don’t ask me to do it on a one lane road with cars behind me i swear to god i’ll crash the car and kill us both
do you think aliens are real? very much so yes! something something fermi paradox something something it’s a special brand of human narcissism to believe we are alone in the universe
can you drive a manual car? nope
guilty pleasure? hrpf but I'm losing my shame about it LMAO (tennis rpf now too...)
tattoos? just the one for now! got it just before i turned 19 on a trip I took with my friend to san francisco. We both opted for ribcage tattoos because we had to hide them from our parents 😭
favorite color? evergreen green
favorite type of music? I'm so musically illiterate it pains me haha but I don't have loyalty to any particular genre/sound! While my knowledge is shallow I'd say my taste is wide. One thing I can say is that I was listening to chappell roan a couple of months before she really took off. So there. I'm also a huge rina sawayama fan!
(I am begging people to recommend me music)
do you like puzzles? only if i’m doing them with someone else who isn’t competitive about it
any phobias? nothing too crazy, not the best with heights, but only in situations where it's actually feasible I might fall
favorite childhood sport?
This genuinely feels like a lifetime ago but I was actually pretty good at horseback riding when I was younger (haven't been on a horse in a hot minute though). I also liked soccer but I was dogshit at it
do you talk to yourself? yeap
tea or coffee? Tea!! I also told myself in high school that I would save my coffee drinking for college so that any given cup would theoretically be more potent because I wouldn’t have had any caffeine immunity built up by then. then I went to college and promptly forgot to drink any coffee. So, tea. (I conveniently forgot that many types of tea also have caffeine, but alas)
first thing you wanted to be be when growing up? veterinarian
what movies do you adore? My mom and I have watched The Man From UNCLE maybe nine times? I also had a one month phase when I was ten where I was obsessed with Hairspray and watched it seven times, which is embarrassing but I feel some obligation to mention it here. Besides that, I adore Kung Fu Hustle, EEAAO, and I am on record saying that Challengers was my favorite movie going experience ever (admittedly, I don’t go to the cinema very often)
I don’t know people on hockey tumblr enough to be tagging them out of the blue 😭 but to anyone that wants to do this tag, take this as me tagging you!

(His fans may eat… drink? well with this one! Come to think of it, aside from Spark having a big appetite and totally in-character, it's probably a nod to their Kung-Fu Tea promo)

Boba Be Bae
AN: I finally tried boba guys. I had the sunshine pineapple & coffee milk tea because I figured fuck it and my stomach said fuck you so 😂🤷‍♀️
Warnings: cuteness I hope
WC: 526
Tumblr media
“Hey babe?” You turn into the kitchen, looking for Simu ad find him meddling around with something in the kitchen.
“What’s up?” He doesn’t even turn around to face you, and you feel insulted. You’re the love of his life he should LOVE looking at you.
“I think I had too much boba today.”
You’ve never seen him spin so fast nor look so insulted in your life. It’d be comical if he wasn’t looking so serious.
“I’m sorry but you had boba today? For the first time ever? With out me?!”
His voice pitches upwards at the end and you can FEEL the annoyance that you went and did this without him. You had been meaning to try boba for a while but hadn’t had a chance until today.
Moving to a new apartment was exhausting and there happened to be a Kung Fu Tea near the new place. Simu wasn’t home yet so you hadn’t worried about his reaction, just drank your 2 bobas and moved on with your day. It wasn’t until an hour or so ago that you realized your stomach was hurting, and that the boba was the culprit. After all, you’d never had it before and the drink was new to your body.
“I’m going to look past this obvious moment of you cheating on me-”
“Hey!”
“And will just ask you for your thoughts. What’d you get? What’d you think? More importantly when are we going next?”
“Well aside from the fact that I did NOT cheat on you, you absolute fiend, I loved it. Texture was a little different than I’m used to but I like it. I didn’t get it with any pearls or anything but I got the coffee milk tea and the sunshine pineapple. Loved them both.”
You look at him, or try to at least, from your position of hunching over the kitchen counter, wishing you hadn’t had so much boba. He can tell you’re distressed due to the discomfort. He corrals you to the couch while he retrieves your heating pad and sticking it in the microwave for you.
“Well to be honest babe I’m just disappointed I missed your first time with boba. But hey it happens to the best of us. Maybe I’ll have some delivered tomorrow.”
“I swear to god if you buy more than 1 thing of-”
“Babe you KNOW I have to justify the delivery fee so it’ll be more than one.”
Sighing, you let him ramble off about the prices while he grabs the heating pad. He comes back, and maneuvers the two of you until you’re sitting with your back to his chest on the couch and he’s got his arms wrapped around your stomach, holding the heating pad in place for you.
“I’m glad you tried it though. Even if you betrayed me for it.”
“Oh my god for the last time I didn’t betray you!”
“You went without me and didn’t get me any. That’s a betrayal if I know one.”
He’s laughing lightly, soon sending you into a fit of laughter too. This man is beyond ridiculous and you love him for it.

*Rest is under the cut!*
Nicknames:
Bai (not really a nickname. It’s his first name. Technically, you could refer to him as “Sun”, but since it’s a sur/family name, when someone addresses him as such, he becomes very suspicious by the formality of it)
Mantis – used by his enemies/rivals/potential employers. It’s also the name he gives out if he doesn’t trust you yet.
Age: 31
Height: 6’5
Pronouns: he/him
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Most likely to… trip over nothing.
Occupation: Mercenary (1st) Pirate (2nd)
Favorite Food: salt and pepper squid
Favorite Drink: lychee black tea
Zodiac: Scorpio Sun, Aries Moon, Leo Rising
Patron Minor Arcana: Ace of Swords
Upright: victory, raw strength, sharp mind
Reversed: confusion, brutality, chaos
Flower: Yellow Mimosa
Personality:
Aloof, clumsy, kind of lazy. A bit of a loser really, but he owns it.
Paranoid.
Nervous, antsy, but tries his best to suppress it around new people
Bai is very generous with the people he cares about, while being very stingy with everyone else
Despite his general lack of urgency, he’s fairly persistent and tenacious. Doesn’t really believe in quitting or giving up.
Not very affectionate. He doesn’t like to be touched. He only touches out of necessity or if he wants to become comfortable touching the other person.
Sun Bai has two sides. His daytime self is very paranoid, whiny and callous. But at night he calms down. He’s more lighthearted and relaxed. He also becomes more reclusive at this time. He goes without his glasses because his eyes work better when the sun isn’t out.
Legendary Origins: Five Animals of Kung Fu (Northern Mantis Style), Sun Wukong (Journey to the West), streetwear fashion
Magic/Abilities: Psychic abilities that vary depending on the time of day. The only thing Bai has mastered completely is the ability to project his thoughts (and his kisses!) into the minds of whomever he is targeting. He’s also proficient in kung-fu. Bai specializes in Northern Praying Mantis style. His skill and accuracy become amplified under the full moon. Nighttime is generally better for Bai in terms of acquiring sharper senses. The phases of the moon are directly linked to his level of skill at both mind-reading and kung-fu.
Backstory: Follow Bai’s journey (past, present, and future) through fics that feature him with the tag: sun bai the psychic. You can also gather clues to his personal history and growth with the tag: sun bai energy

Moon Cake Festivity Merriment in Malaysia
Tumblr media
The moon, long a thing to intrigue and adore, has persuaded various stories in old China. While on board a boat, Tang Custom essayist Li Po was acknowledged to have endeavored to embrace the impression of the moon while he was failed. He fell past the brink and choked. In quite a while in the past, people saw a round shape as family gathering; as such the presence of a full moon was seen as a favorable time for family members to get together. At no other season is the moon most splendid and fullest on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month. In 2009, that good day falls on October 3, 2009, which is generally called the Mid-reap time Festivity. Light processions and the eating of mooncakes are elements of the celebrations.
In Malaysia, which has a Chinese people, the Mooncake Festivity is similarly celebrated on a sufficiently phenomenal scale with petitions and get-together dinners. Unique raised regions are set up in the external under the night sparkle, and commitments of pomegranates, pomelos, steamed wipe cake, water-calthrops, more modest than common yams and mooncakes are laid. The moon is adored, and there is gobbling up, moon looking and, in current families, praising and drinking. Kids convey lights and on occasion challenges are held. According to additional carefully prepared ages, on this day, the no of not featuring the moon should be seen, on the off chance that a moon pixie will eliminate one's ears! More here best mooncake lotus
In Kuala Lumpur, the Thean Hou Kung Safe-haven on Jalan Syed Putra holds a marvelous celebration consistently, while relative blissful making is held in Penang in either the Chinese Get-together Entryway or the Kek Lok See Asylum. Facilitators of such celebrations are the Chinese associations, affiliations and safe-haven lawful directors.
Weeks before the festival, mooncakes and lights are set accessible to be bought. In the Chinese locales of various metropolitan networks, especially Kuala Lumpur, Georgetown, Malacca and Ipoh, red boxes stacked with mooncakes are piled high on the business counters of diners, and lights seeming to be animals, blooms, butterflies and liveliness characters balance in bunches from toy stores and incense shops. Concerning the times, a piece of the lights are worked by battery anyway those lit by candles are at this point notable. Mooncakes are bought for petition and use as well as to be given to colleagues and relatives.
Shaped like the external layer of a mooncakes arrive in a couple of standard groupings. They can be stacked up with dim bean stick, caramel lotus-stick, yellow-bean paste and lotus-seed mixed in with further developed stick. Regularly, a shielded duck-egg trouble is added to the stuffing. These mooncakes are of the Cantonese version, and besides, there are similarly less notable Hokkien-style mooncakes that show up in a long cylinder molded roll and Teochew mooncakes stacked up with yam. In Malaysia, halal mooncakes are in like manner available. To deal with the rising complex taste buds of Malaysians, progressions in mooncakes consolidate frozen yogurt mooncakes, pandanus moncakes, green tea mooncakes and durian mooncakes.
The starting points of the Mooncake Festivity have been lost in the hazes of time at this point there are two legends related with it. The chief worries its work in the loss of the Yuan Line (Advancement 960-1280) that was spread out by the Mongols in obsolete China. Under the serious rule of the Mongols, parties of a social occasion were precluded, and it was pronounced that each family be allowed to guarantee simply a solitary kitchen sharp edge, which was binded to a slicing block. It was unfathomable to Assemble any uprisings. Liu Fu Tong, a progressive head of Anhui region, referenced assent from the District Official to spread cakes to incline toward the life expectancy of the Mongolian ruler. The District Official agreed, and Liu made a large number round cakes which he called mooncakes. Each cake contained a piece of paper showing the plan of an attack. He encouraged the recipients to eat the mooncakes on the fifteenth day of he eighth lunar moon. At that moment, when people cut the mooncakes, they had the choice to work with a rebellion on a local scale. Another extreme trailblazer, Chu Hung Wu, acquired by the disturbance to expel the Mongol ruler, and spread out the Ming Line in Advancement 1368).

If you can’t follow through with some of your creative choices, maybe make other choices to begin with. If Miraculous can’t follow through with its lead character being French-Chinese, maybe they shouldn’t have written her to be French-Chinese in the first place and people wouldn’t be rightfully complaining nearly as much now
As far as I’m aware, nobody forced the people making Miraculous to have their main character be a French-Chinese kid. The moment they made that creative choice, they found themselves with a creative challenge: writing a show with a mixed-race kid living in France in the 2010s as its lead, something that is still super rare in most French mainstream media.
It could have been really great, progressive, even.
Now, how do you follow through with that creative choice? How do you make sure you don’t fumble the bag when this is a key aspect of the character?
How about you hire people who know their stuff, who can maybe even draw from their own lived experiences? Or if you don’t want to have them be part of the creative team for whatever reason, maybe have them be part of an easy-to-reach consulting team? Or, in the worst of cases, you do your best and hope to get it right by working you butt off, you do the reading and the researching yourself and hope that this is enough.
But Miraculous, as a production, hasn’t put a lot of effort into doing any of these things seriously. Well, that’s not entirely they had consulting folks for all the non-contemporary Chinese iconography, some writers went to China a couple of times it would seem. Is that sufficient? I think not. This isn’t a show being made by amateurs in a bedroom, this is a multi-million dollars franchise.
The writers think that stereotypical costumes and bits of decorating are good-enough shortcuts for the depiction of complex cultures, but god forbid the characters ever actually talk about that, at all. Marinette’s mom is super in touch with her Chinese heritage in her day-to-day life but her daughter isn’t and that is never addressed once in almost 80 episodes but you better believe we know all about Rose’s love for perfume or the principal’s antics because that’s a priority apparently.
Maybe there’s a point to be made about Marinette not being in touch with her Chinese heritage hidden somewhere in the show, but Miraculous is anything but subtle about what it wants the audience to notice, so what could have been a very interesting perspective turns out to never have been there in the first place.
Let’s have that very clumsy rice flour metaphor and also let’s have the racist grandpa be not-racist after a kid he’s being racist against has proven him that she doesn’t deserve to be treated like that personally.
Let’s have that one uncle that appears once, barely interacts with his niece and sister at all, and let’s call it a day. Oh, and let’s have him turn into the villain of the week too so that we can spend even less time with him as a regular person (and also let’s have his food-related attacks be sushi and pizza, famous Chinese delicacies, how fitting for a Chinese chef from China).
Let’s have a magical mystery Chinese man who does bogus mystical massages for a living, dressed up like Mr. Miyagi, the Japanese Karate master from the Karate Kid movies.
Let’s make sure that every Chinese character knows Kung-Fu also, especially that lady baker wearing a Cheongsam, because, well, wouldn’t it be funny to have the Chinese woman do the Kung-Fu pose just like in the movies? Isn’t it funny, you guys? She’s barely a character but you better believe she drinks tea and knows Kung-Fu! Wow!
Amazing show, amazing writing choices, absolutely no weird orientalist nonsense here!
The people producing and airing the show are absolutely fine with that, don’t you worry about it. If they weren’t, the show wouldn’t be airing as is.
And the show remembers that its lead is indeed French-Chinese when she needs to go to another city because of her white crush. Not to visit the Chinese side of her family, mind you, who cares about them.
Fantastic job, you guys, really knocked that one out of the park.
If you can’t follow through with your creative choices, make different choices. It’s that simple. If you can’t deliver on the choices you’ve made, this is called a creative failure.

I made this long time ago, but I thought it's a good time to share it here for @aphasiaweek!
I chose 《Hoi Sam☆Nice Guy》over 《Maji Kandou☆Hong Kong Night》because there are more stuff about HK in it. So let's see if the lyrics are accurate in a native's point of view!
Spoiler alert: it's very accurate
youtube
Hoi Sam = Happy (in Cantonese)
Guy = sounds like street in Cantonese (gaai1)
“Yooooo, so since there’s a song… while I’m at it I kinda put some effort into my costume… I think I’ve got like, serious swag Pardon? You can’t see me…for real? Woah!!!!”
FASHION: yes, HKers love to be trendy, always want to be on top trends! Trends come and go very very quickly, it's seriously really hard to follow trends in HK.
MIXING ENGLISH WITH CANTONESE: yup, we do that a lot, we almost couldn't finish a sentence without English, some words just sound "uncool" in Chinese lol (it’s always about being cool in HK lol), but we don't really say “pardon” unless we are speaking English
Sup-sup-sup-sup-sup-super mobile (snap snap) It’s my hobby to take pics and collect them (I guess) Not gonna lie, everyone’s got a mobile phone, penetration rate (highest in the world) Yeah! If you’re going sightseeing then Nathan Road! (Fuu~!)
TAKING PICS WITH SMARTPHONE: Aph HK loves taking (embarrassing) photos (of China lol), but in real life HKers do love taking pictures, or videos too (it's dangerous if you misbehave, people would film you and post on Youtube or Facebook)
MOBILE PHONE PENETRATION RATE: I couldn't find data for HK, but I think I heard on average, each HKer carries at least 2 cellphones! So this could be true!
NATHAN ROAD: It's the longest street in HK and there's so many things, good food, good shopping places and yup sightseeing! (A lot of our streets are named after the Governors during the colonial time, this street is named after Sir Matthew Nathan for example)
Welcome this makes me kinda happy (Check it out!) Learned this from England - tea in the afternoon (high tea) Welcome, this is kinda fun (Shake it up!) Yum cha, Hong Kong milk tea, cha-cha Nice culture (frivolous)!
AFTERNOON TEA: Yes, it's still a tradition for us to have tea time, we call it 3:15, workplaces would have tea breaks, restaurants do tea time menu during 2-5pm, it's really cool and cheap! We usually drink HK milk tea (evolved from British milk tea) during tea time and there are so many delicious snacks like French toast, pineapple bun and of course egg tart!
youtube
YUM CHA: It literally means “drink tea”, but Chinese tea this time. It's a tradition for us to go Yum Cha every Sunday with our family! Dim sum is part of Yum Cha! We just eat and catch up with each others for HOURS!
Oh. My. God. “LOHAS LOHAS” Oh. My. Mind. “Gonna take a pic~” Take away “Is this delivery service for real?” Like, seriously, even if it’s way out of the way, no problem man
LOHAS: I didn't know what this refers to for a long time, I finally found the answer. This refers to LOHAS park, an eco-friendly residential area newly built few years ago. But what's so special about it? Is it famous in Japan?!
DELIVERY SERVICE: Well delivery service in Asia are generally good anyway, but I guess we are good and fast?! (but I think Korea too!)
Super Feeling unlucky? If it’s getting to you, go villain hitting at Ngo Keng Kiu A medium will perform an exorcism, and hit a paper doll with a shoe For fortune telling, go draw fortune sticks, or get a divine answer by throwing moon blocks at the temples… at Wong Tai Sin, light the fire of your incense! If you’re feeling tired, maybe you can give Feng Shui a try or something? A spiritual site in Lantau Island The Wisdom Path…is super Awesome for meditation, but there aren’t any toilets, so watch out Gold fish, bring me luck! (In money!)
youtube
NGO KENG KIU: Generally HKers are not THAT superstitious, but the culture still lives within us. I have never known anyone who did the villain hitting, but it's still quite a thing (and a great tourist spot). It's mainly for people who backstab you (we call them "small people" siu yan), but I guess evil spirit too.
WONG TAI SIN: Again, it's more for older generation who are still a bit superstitious. People like to go to Wong Tai Sin Temple during Lunar New Year to wish for luck in the new year. It's still quite popular!
Tumblr media
See I told you we have natural landscape (source)
WISDOM PATH: I've never been there lol. Apparently it's a "path lined with 38 wooden monuments inscribed with the Heart Sutra prayer". In general, HK has a lot of nice hiking trail, our landscape is actually amazing, it's just we focus too much on making money...
P-Pe-Pe-Pearl of the Orient is me! (I guess?) Got completely wasted? Ended up in a dress (totes sick) Not gonna lie, population density is highest in the world in Ap Lei Chau Yeah! If you’re going sightseeing then Hong Kong Island! (Yeah~!!)
PEARL OF THE ORIENT: It's the nickname of HK, the Philippines is Pearl of the Orient SEAS
(Ending up in a dress refers to this comic, thanks parallel France!)
POPULATION DENSITY: Yea, that's what we are famous for really, small place lots of people (HK is a very hilly city, surprise, surprise), we have the most expensive estate price in the world 🤦‍♀️, not sure if Ap Lei Chau is particularly population-densed, but the whole HK is like that!
Good luck in everything this makes me kinda happy (Check it out!) Learned this from England - how to be a gentleman (ladies first) I wish you good health, this is kinda fun (Shake it up!) Typhoon, Kung Fu, WA-TAHH Supplements, Chinese herbal medicine (healthy~!)
LUCK: The newer generations are less superstitious now, but luck is still kind of important for us? It's more like a tradition than a belief, we do them just in case (like Feng Shui).
TYPHOON: As a coastal city, we get typhoons a lot in summer, but they are not as strong in comparison to the Philippines or Indonesia.
KUNG FU: We are known for our Kung Fu films, as the actors are all trained martial artists! Bruce Lee (WA-TAH was his catchphrase), Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen are great examples! Because of the wars and Cultural Revolution, many people fled China to HK, resulting the influx of high quality martial artists (eg. Ip Man).
HERBAL MEDICINE: As western as we are, we still believe in Chinese Medicine, but more in a preventative way.
Oh. My. God. “Air conditioning in full blast!” Oh. My. Mind. “That’s not eco-friendly…” Oh well “The air will become cleaner, I think?” Seriously a Mistake, but, no problem man
STRONG AIR-CONDITIONING: This line had me laugh die (Imao in Cantonese)! It's so accurate! You can catch a cold from the airconditioning in HK! And that's why we always carry a jacket even in summer! It's not very eco-friendly and our government is trying resolve that.
AIR POLLUTION: Yes we have smog (smoke + fog), it is becoming quite the problem really. The root of the problem is that Shenzhen, the city next to HK, is developing rapidly and a lot of factories moved there, so the smoke is blown towards HK (we don't really have many factories left, it's too expensive here).
Awesome Riding on a roofless bus, cruising through the neon streets If you want to, like, go shopping… at Ladies Market There are stalls with cute stuff, souvenirs (lots and lots of them) Talk the price down! Haggling is what really counts For some more miscellaneous and deep junk, more for the adult and thrilling The street where mystery thickens… Temple Street Would you like to try some cheap eats at the street stalls? Absolutely delicious! Asian food is the best!
NEON LIGHTS: You've all seen the stereotypical HK streets full of neon lights, but it's actually decreasing, because there's no newcomers to the industry (the lights are handmade).
LADIES MARKET: You can find so many stuff there indeed, for a cheap price! Branded stuff, fake stuff (we don't make them but yea you can find a lot of them), food and goldfish. Yes, there's a goldfish street. Why? I dunno, for luck I guess?!
TEMPLE STREET: Similar to ladies market, it's also great for shopping. This street is also known for (illegal) prostitution and triad, but it's still safe to visit, never in my life have I encountered any of them.
“Yoooooo, Mister, so I kinda sang this song, but seriously, rapping is surprisingly, like, tough?” “It’s also a shame that no one can see what I’m wearing, I’ve got serious swag, y'know.” “Phew… I kinda want to go home already… I mean, the peach buns are gonna be sold out.” “…can we go now?” “…can’t we go yet?” “Haah…” “Okay fine, like, whatever.”
One, two, three!*
PEACH BUN: They are actually eaten on birthdays, for longevity (that's what peach represents in Chinese culture).
*this line was spoken in Mandarin in the song, which would be the only critism I'd give. Yes a lot of people may understand Mandarin, but Cantonese and English are preferred and they are our official languages. One, two, three in Cantonese would be "yaat, yi, sam".
Oh. My. God. “The rent is really expensive…” Oh. My. Mind. “It’s not easy…” Why oh why? “It’s like, the highest in the world” We have serious inflation, but, whatever
EXPENSIVE RENT: We are the most expensive in the world, thanks to the high population density (and foreign buyers 😶), it's really not easy to afford a flat in HK, that’s why most HKers live with their parents until they get married (it’s also a cultural thing).
INFLATION: Stuff are still relatively cheap, but they are getting more expensive really quickly, mainly because of the rent of the shops.
Super they’re so adorable it hurts, the perfect balance of black and white pandas that bring you happiness… we sell them, sort of So fluffy and cute, such big round eyes The kinda? Make you Happy! Uh-huh
PANDAS: We actually only have 2 pandas here like everyone else, in Ocean Park (it's like an amusement park and zoo). They finally successfully mated recently, probably because of Corona shutdown lol!
There are over 100 of them, Tin Hau Temple, so super Before I head there, I seriously wanna eat… mango pudding! So many gods, like, one in every street Pay homage at the temple, light the fire of your incense!
TEMPLES: We still have the temples built before the colonial time! Hopefully, we are able to keep them too...
youtube
MANGO PUDDING: It's so good yes! Our dessert culture is just the best seriously! We have so many restaurants just for desserts! They are great places to hang out with friends after work or school!
The air conditioning at its max, the fire burning strong A steaming hot pot made with a carefully chosen soup base If you want to detox, have a Chinese herbal hot pot Absolutely delicious! Asian food is the best! Riding on a roofless bus, cruising through the neon streets If you want to, like, go shopping… at Ladies Market There are stalls with cute stuff, souvenirs, lots and lots of them Talk the price down! Haggling is what really counts Absolutely delicious! Asian food is the best! Every minute Happy☆Nice Town (Guy)
HOT POT: We love it! We basically love when a lot of people sit together, talking, sharing food (like Yum Cha), it's the harmony and atmosphere that we like so much! And yes, there are a lot of different soup base you can choose from!
BARGAINING: Yes do it, especially if you're in places like Ladies' Market and you're a foreigner, they do price things up if you don't look like a local.
***
Shout out to Takagi Motoki, the voice actor of HK, his voice fits the character perfectly! (and please get a new va for the new season please funimation) And how can he speak so fast?!

THE PERMANENT RAIN PRESS INTERVIEW WITH AZRIEL DALMAN
Tumblr media
He may only be 7 years old, but don’t let numbers fool you. Azriel (Azi) Dalman already has nearly thirty credits to his name! The accomplished young artist from Vancouver has had a big 2020, but there’s no slowing down for Azi, who has a number of exciting upcoming projects to share with the world.
Your older brother, Aias, is also an actor. While you are only 7 years old, tell us about your interest in following his footsteps, and what made you want to start auditioning for film/TV?
I loved seeing the completed films my brother was in but I didn’t really understand how he got into them. One day, I was 3 maybe, we went to a commercial audition for my brother and the Casting Director came into the waiting room and asked the kids to practice singing “Old MacDonald.” I knew the song and sang it also. They took the kids in to audition as a group and I asked why this was happening. My mom said it was because they were going to see who should be in the commercial where they sing it. I realized what an audition was then, it meant they were trying out to see who got to be on the video. I asked if I could go do it too and my mom said no because it was not my audition, so I asked if I could get auditions too. After that I got an agent. I never got to audition by singing “Old MacDonald” though so I guess that ship has sailed.
What are your favourite movies or characters?
I love Wall-E and Soul for cartoons. For TV Characters I like Jim and Dwight from The Office a lot. I used to want to be Jake Peralta from Brooklyn Nine-Nine and I think I definitely look like him! And of course I love the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe)!
What is your favourite snack from catering? Is there a food item that you’re most excited to see on the daily menu on-set?
My favourite is a drink, it’s the iced tea. I also like M&Ms but I’m only supposed to have the yellow or orange ones or my mouth will change colours which annoys the people who do makeup... I don’t want to stress them out. I like beef jerky and ramen bowls too but they usually hide those on the truck so you have to ask for them special. For lunch I like trying the new things but my favourite most recent new food was crunchy pork! The 3rd ADs are so nice and deliver the food to my trailer but I like to go for a walk after we eat in the trailer and say hi to the catering people and look at the dessert. On this last project, they learned I liked watermelon on the first day and kept keeping special watermelon for me.

You recently wrapped Coyote Creek Christmas, your first Hallmark Christmas Movie! Congratulations! You worked opposite Ryan Paevey (as your father) and Janel Parrish, tell us about your experience working with Ryan and Janel.
Ryan and Janel are the best humans. They are both down to earth, kind, patient, friendly, funny, loving, talented, and FUN. It was so much fun to work with them because they treated me like a real friend and with a lot of respect. They included me in all of their talks and fun, and never made me feel like I was annoying them because I am a kid. I was very excited to see them every day and now I ask to see their Instagram posts because I love looking at their pictures! I am not surprised they work a lot, they are so good at acting and being around them is so easy. Ryan knows everything about bugs and Pokémon. Both of them are obsessed with dogs and when they saw someone walk by with a dog, they would hug and kiss the dogs... random dogs! It was really funny. They taught me a lot of acting tips also, both on purpose and by accident.
We saw on Instagram that Ryan took you to see Free Guy at the movie theater! Was it easy for you to bond as father-son?
It was easy and instant and it feels like I’ve always known Ryan as a real uncle or something. Sometimes when I am someone’s kid in a movie, I have to do real acting to pretend I am their kid, not because they aren’t nice but because I don’t know them well and I don’t really get to know them too well on the project. With Ryan I didn’t really have to do any acting to pretend I knew him, because I got to know him fast.
Tumblr media
What can you share about your character, Noah Bailey?
I don’t think I can say too many spoilers, but I will say that Noah gets to be sarcastic and funny, and I love that. I don’t get to be funny on a MOW (movie of the week) usually, I just get to be cute or scared or sad. Noah was supposed to be a 10-year-old so I got to do some smart lines! And we have some funny scenes too. Ryan said one of the scenes we have together is his favourite scene he has ever done because it’s so funny and cute, and I thought that was really cool.
You can now cross this career goal off your list! Why was a Hallmark Christmas Movie on your bucket list; what do you (and your family) enjoy about them each holiday season?
Christmas movies are the kind of movies you watch every year like a tradition and I love things that are a tradition. My family lives in Vancouver, Canada but MOST of my family lives in America so we don’t get to see them at Christmas. I wanted to be in a Christmas movie so my family far away could see me on the TV at Christmas when they are missing me and so I can watch the movie with my kids when I’m a grown up and say “haha that is me!” For Christmas my family puts up a tree and we eat really good food. We also watch Christmas movies like Rankin/Bass movies, Home Alone, and Die Hard which is definitely a Christmas movie. I basically love everything about Christmas, especially the decorating. My birthday is 2 days after Christmas so I think I’m a Christmas Boy for sure.
Is it funny to see Christmas decorations and fake snow in the summer?
It was a little bit funny but it was also confusing! My brain kept forgetting what season it was. My mom warned me over and over again with every Christmas movie audition that it would be hot, but the joke was on her because we actually had some days that were cold! There were only one or two reallllly hot outside days. We got very lucky. I think the times it was hot on set it was mostly because of the gear and no air conditioning being on. Air conditioning is too loud for movies, I think. It wrecks the sound or something.
You are set to star in the short film Dragon Fruit. What can you share about this project?
Dragon Fruit is going to be so good. The Director, Jeremy Brown, is really nice and smart and made the whole experience really special for all the actors. His props and special effects are amazing... he makes them almost all himself... and the film is going to be... guess what... a sci-fi! It’s post-apocalyptic. A funny thing about it is that I am very dirty in the film so I would go to set clean and they would basically put fake dirt all over me and make my hair messy, then when I left they would clean me up! On one of the shoot dates I had to do a live interview in the middle of the day for another project, so they had to make me dirty, clean me up, and then make me dirty again, and then clean me up again!
Tumblr media
Yvonne Chapman will play your mother. She is remarkable in the CW’s Kung Fu as Zhilan. Did it surprise you to see her as the villain in the show?
I was shocked she was a villain because in real life she is definitely NOT a villain type, she is so nice. She is obviously very good at acting! But I am not surprised she is so tough in that show because she does some really tough things in Dragon Fruit too! Yvonne is really nice to work with also, she sits and talks to me and makes jokes with me. I am wrapped on Dragon Fruit now which is sort of sad, because we did it for like 6 months or something, but at least it means the film will be out soon.
You have a part in the action sci-fi Moonfall out next year, and you even made it into the teaser trailer! How exciting! While you likely cannot say much about Sonny Child, what can you share about your initial reaction to booking this movie?
Everything about Moonfall was very exciting. The audition was one of the first ones I got after the forced break by COVID and when we saw it was in Montreal and they were auditioning kids all over Canada we thought it was a long shot, but auditions are opportunities that can be very rare, so you should always do an audition if you are comfortable with it, and always do your best. Anyway yeah, this one was far from Vancouver so when I booked it, we were extra shocked and grateful. Honestly even after the booking, we were not sure it would really happen because of the virus and how things changed every day, so we did not even believe it would happen until we were on the plane! Montreal was the best, I loved it there so much, and I hope I get to work at Grande Studios again!
Did you get to meet and interact with your director, Roland Emmerich? What did you learn from him, and had you (or maybe your parents!) watched any of his previous films?
Yes of course, Roland was the Director so he directed me! Before we left, I watched Independence Day and I was very impressed and thought “This guy really knows what he is doing! I better know my role well!” Roland was very nice and so was Harald (Kloser). They both gave me lots of compliments and I loved that! It was very full-on too, I worked every minute of my time on set there with the exception of my legal breaks and lunch. I loved it so much and I hope I will get to work with Roland on another project someday. I don’t know how to specifically describe what I learned without spoilers, but yeah it was a huge learning opportunity.
Tumblr media
What is your favourite object you have gotten to take home from any set?
It’s impossible to choose just one! These are in no order, ok? The first thing is actually TECHNICALLY a lot of things because I often get to take home wardrobe from my character’s “closet” when we wrap. I am obsessed with clothes and was given really cool clothing from the costumers on many sets. Most recently I got a mint hoody I love. I audition in those clothes a lot for good luck. The second thing is a special prop that Jeremy Brown MADE me on Dragon Fruit as a wrap gift. There is a super cool secret weapon in the movie that I will not spoil, and Jeremy MADE me a safer toy version of it. Before my mom saw it was a toy version, she looked very scared when he handed it to me! Third, there are two special items Noah Bailey ALWAYS has with him in Coyote Creek Christmas (no spoilers!) and Ryan, David Strasser (the Director), and Antonio Cupo (the Executive Producer) presented them to me TO KEEP AS GIFTS at wrap in front of the whole crew. It was very special. I am saving these things forever, even some of the clothes! AND one more ok? Fourth, I get to keep the signs that say my name on my set chair and/or trailer door during projects. I hang those up on my wall in my room.
Is there a dream role or character you would like to play in the future? If not character, are there any specific film/TV genres or franchises you would like to be in?
Ok so here’s the thing. I had a few wishes that I wanted to come true in acting... one was the Christmas movie... and one was to play a very specific other actor’s sibling in something. GUESS WHAT? Both those things came true in 2021. Do you know the odds of that sibling thing coming true... my mom said it seemed impossible! But it did come true SOMEHOW. So now I am setting my goals super high and not worrying about how impossible they seem or how many there are. My biggest next goal is to be in Marvel ANYTHING. And you know what, I think Ryan should be in Marvel too, so I think my next goal is to be in Marvel with Ryan! I also want to be a voice of a video game character pretty badly! I also want to do some comedy!
What are your favourite places to visit or eat at in Vancouver?
I am obsessed with sushi and Korean food and lately my favourite place is Shabusen Yakiniku House because you can get both. There’s also a place on Granville Street called The Colony that has a bunch of old arcade games and I love that place too but we haven’t been since before COVID. I hope it’s still there.
Tumblr media
You also enjoy other forms of arts like ballet, reading, and writing comics. How do you find the time for all your activities, school, and your growing career in film?
Oh I have a lot of free time. It’s weird. It sounds like I do a lot of stuff but lots of other kids tell me they do like 10 activities really well! I don’t want to do 10 activities because I really like relaxing, so instead of doing like 10, I want to do a few and just do them really well. Ballet is great because I feel like a ninja in the clothes, I don’t have to audition to do it, and it’s definitely a sport. Reading and writing comics I can do while relaxing, and even when I’m on set!
Tell us about the role your parents play in your life and career, not only for you but your brother as well! You keep them busy, but they must be so supportive of you.
My mom does mostly all the acting stuff like keeping track of the auditions and taping and going to set. My dad is a little nervous about going to set for some reason, but I think he would be fine! We are very busy but no one seems to ever complain. The only time it’s a little sad is when we are apart for long during filming but we always do video calls then.
For other young actors like yourself, do you have any advice for how to be confident in front of the camera? What (or who) has helped you prepare for roles and memorize lines?
I think to feel confident you have to know what you are doing. I was confident when I was 3 for some random reason, and then I took some acting classes at LeBlanc School of Acting and those helped me know what I was doing for sure. I have had lots of coaches teach me stuff like Julian, Athena, Kirsten, Natalie, Brian, and Beatrice are a few of their names. Sorry if I forgot anyone! For most specific auditions, I use the things ALL those people taught me and then I work with my brother on the specific scripts. Oh and on the set of my last movie, my new actor friend Naomi King told me that you should learn the scene not the lines... but you will definitely learn the lines once you learn the scene!
We have our signature question for you – if you could be any ice cream flavour, which would you be and why?
Well... I would not want to be ice cream! But if I had to be, I’d definitely be Green Tea or Mango.
Thanks for the insight into your projects and thoughts, Azi! We cannot wait to see you return to action on our screens, and follow as your career grows. To stay up to date on Azi’s upcoming projects and get a behind the scenes look into his busy and exciting life, follow him on Instagram.

She was bullied a lot when she was younger for being Chinese, which resulted in the many walls that she built up and trying to westernize herself. But now that she is much happier with herself, she embraces her culture wholeheartedly.
HIDDEN TALENTS: Is a very good cook from the years in her family’s restaurant. But will only cook for you if you are very close. Also learned Shaolin Kung Fu as a kid, and will beat you up if needed.
CELEBRITY CRUSHES: J-hope of BTS, Michael B Jordan, Sophie Turner, Dev Patel, and Keira Knightley.
FAVORITE DRINK (ALCOHOLIC AND NON-ALCOHOLIC): alcoholic: will do anything for a shot of Hennessy, also love a good bottle of rice wine non-alcoholic: Match Boba Tea.
FAVORITE TV SHOW/MOVIE: Love Island (of course), Skins, Killing Eve, Friends, and Sex Education. (huge Harry Potter fan, but that’s a secret)
FAVORITE DISH: Her mother’s Bao is the best thing on this planet and don’t fight her on that.
FAVORITE VACATION SPOT: Never has time for Vacation, but if she had to pick she’s say Xi’an China because that’s where her grandparents live.
IDEAL DATE: Says she likes to be spoiled, but truly only wants to hangout in sweats, eat take out, and watch cheesy movies. (But wouldn’t mind an occasional spoiling)
WHO’S HER INSPIRATION: Her Parents
BEST FRIEND: Seb
LOVE INTEREST (FOR NOW): Camilo (but she’s keeping AJ on the back burner)
PICTURE OF YOUR MC AND FACECLAIM: Keeps her hair black and in straight lob. Uses her makeup to emphasize her monolids and embraces what the Good Lord gave her. Face Claim: Chailee Son

Do you have a fireplace in your house? Hell no. Just the idea of having a fireplace considering where I live and the general climate we have all year makes me nauseous haha.
Do you have a hot flask? I’m not so sure what you mean but if you’re referring to tumblers like Hydro Flask that keep drinks hot/cold for a really long time then yeah, I have one.
What decade were you four in? 2000s.

I’m pretty self-disciplined for the most part, but I let that go as soon as I give myself the green light lol. Exhibit A would be me spending a total of nearly P7,000 just this week alone on BTS merch...
