chilchuck cosplay rundown / tutorial! I say tutorial loosely cause I didn't take any progress photos...but hopefully some of this helps someone!

I received a couple messages on instagram about this cosplay so I thought it'd be easier to make a post about it! here's a little rundown for anybody who needs it...!

I only had a week to make this costume so there isn't a ton of actual sewing involved! (I got most of the materials in advance)

the main part's essentially just a big quilt - I used a faux suede fabric (which was a little stretchy, I really don't recommend this but it was the best colour match I could find with my time limit! I think it would've come out a lot smoother using something without stretch!) I used 2 ounce wadding/batting! the process is just measuring a bunch of rectangles, using stick and spray to glue the wadding between the two fabrics, and then sewing along all the lines. time consuming but it's not hard!

I cut the quilt I'd made into two rectangles, essentially you have two blankets - then I measured the neck and armholes based on a tank style dress I owned. if you're a little unsure about this you can make a mockup first before cutting the real thing! then I sewed the shoulders together, now it's just one long blanket with a head hole!

I ended up trimming the sides of the front half before the next bit to help it conform to my body a little better but I had to wear it backwards on the day for reasons I'll explain in a minute T__T

next I sew bias tape down the sides and around the neck hole, I folded the bottom ends and sewed them by hand to hide the stitches. you could probably just use bias around the whole thing but I was low on materials!

the buckles at the sides are literally just watch straps. the original listing I bought from's gone now but I'm pretty sure these are the exact same thing. I bought 16mm and trimmed the ends a little, I attached them using gorilla superglue!

the gloves are these gloves with the fingers cut off, any brown leather gauntlet style glove will do, and the scarf's one I found on vinted. it was a long scarf originally, I zigzag stitched down where I wanted it to end, cut it, then sewed the two ends together. the stitching's a little wonky but you can't really tell when it's folded over!

the belt's from amazon and the pouch is this one from aliexpress - I already had one of these for casual wear, it's a little foraging bag! it folds out into a bigger pouch!

I didn't take photos but the shirt's just one I found on vinted and the jeans are topshop joni jeans I'm pretty sure! the boots are just a pair I found secondhand and hot glued a strip of pleather to!

my wig is this one in chestnut brown, I always use coscraft for wigs they're my favourite! I trimmed it a little shorter and used thinning scissors over the whole wig!

last but not least is the ears. I almost didn't use these and I'm so glad I did! I felt so silly and cute wearing them! I used these ears, but searching "prosthetic big ears" should come up with others if you do a little digging! I don't have any experience with prosthetics aside from a pair of hobbit ears I wore a few years back for halloween but they're not too tricky to apply.

I trimmed the edges down a little and applied my foundation to them, powdered them to seal it and then added a little blush to the tips. I used ben nye prosthetic adhesive to glue them on! glue on my ears and onto the prosthetic ears, let it get tacky then just held them in place until they stuck.

be careful with the adhesive when you're applying it because my sibling accidentally spilled it down my costume... that's why I ended up wearing it backwards on the day...

I was worried I wouldn't be able to hear with them on but it's not too bad! cons are loud anyway and I'm autistic so the slight noise cancelling effect wasn't bad at all!

another piece of advice I'd give is to buy one of these style neck fans, you can buy them on amazon! I wore this during the day underneath my scarf and it helped a lot!

Bear with this very wordy post, there are pics at the bottom that may be useful for doll rebodying fans! Also this is post 1 of 2 so check out the others as well.

If you collect custom Pullip dolls (or really any fashion type doll that comes with a sub par standard body) you’ve probably spent an inordinate amount of time and money looking for a replacement body that better suits your needs. For Pullip collectors it is generally either an Obitsu body, a Pure Neemo body, or a Barbie Made to Move body. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.

Made to Move poses amazingly well and feels very solid, but is much taller than the default Pullip body,the hands and joints aren’t the prettiest, and it is difficult to color match to the paler Pullips color range (for the mocha and tan Pullips Made to Move is the best/only option though). This body does allow for head tilted poses.

Obitsu is also a great option and poses amazingly well, has pretty hands and joints, and matches the paler Pullip colors very well (unfortunately there is no Obitsu option for darker toned dolls unless you can find the long discontinued coconut Obitsu). The main issue with Obitsu for Pullips is that the large head tends to be wobbly on the Obitsu body, and the torso has a tendency to come apart for the same reason. In general the Obitsu body can become floppy very easily when used with Pullip head. This body does allow for head tilted poses.

Pure Neemo is super pretty, and has some colors that match the paler Pullips well and also have tan and brown shades available in some of their bodies. The Pure Neemo bodies are also really solid and feel much sturdier than the Obitsu. However the range of motion in the joints isn’t as good as the Made to Move or Obitsu bodies. This body does not allow for head tilted poses.

So which way to go?

I found another option (maybe everybody else already knows this body but I hadn’t seen it before) - the YMY Female Doll Body 24. This body actually is 22 or 24 cm depending on which arms/legs you attach, has a small or large bust, multiple sets of very pretty hands, has a nice solid feel and texture and is a good color match for the paler Pullips (you will want the Milky White, the Super White is in fact ssssuuuuuppppper white). This body does allow head tilt poses if you use the neck pegs that come with it which will work for Blythe dolls or most other fashion type dolls but the peg doesn’t work for Pullips so the workaround needed to make it work for a Pullip does lose the head tilt option. This body can be purchased on Amazon and costs about $18 USD.

Note: YMY does make a male body as well that I will be trying with one of my Taeyang dolls and will update with the result. The male bodies do also offer a tan option so we will see how it works with a tan doll.

As noted, the neck adapters included will work for Blythe, Barbie, and most other fashion type dolls but will not work for a Pullip. Instead I used a couple of the adapter pieces in conjunction with a screw and some vinyl bands. I removed the default neck bob and used a dremel to drill a small hole inside the neck to attach the screw, and used the adapter pieces and vinyl bands to create a new neck bob that would work with Pullip (you will need to remove the eye mech and install the neck peg behind it):

Ultimate Comfort Kit Guide <3

As an ADHD girlie who suffers from anxiety and panic attacks, I want to share with you some great items that are part of my comfort kit because, neurodivergent fellows or not, staying home or traveling, I want to give you some tips to build your own:

Noise cancelling headphones: to be specific, mine have a wire because I'm not a big fan of wireless headphones because I'd always forget to charge them, so I got a pair of noise cancelling headphones with two wires and its little bag to carry it everywhere on Amazon.

Favourite stuffed toy: mine is a banana minion because my dead cousin loved minions and I feel her close when I hold it by my side.

Water bottle: since I drink a lot of water, I bought this 1lt metal water bottle. It's a bit hard to carry it around, but at least I'm sure I have enough water for a long time and I won't have to refill it immediatamently (I tried another water bottle my uncle got for me, but I had to refill it every five minutes). You can also bring a bottle of your favourite drink, along with the water.

Pillow: I have a favourite pillow. It's a Harry Potter pillow I got when I went to Primark for the first time in Italy and it's the best pillow ever. It's so soft , such high quality material and it's so comfortable. I love it and it's part of my comfort kit.

Blankets: along with my pillow, I always carry this Nightmare Before Christmas blanket my parents got me a long time ago.

Medicines/supplements organizer: let's make this clear.. it's a must have because this item changed my life. I sometimes forget to carry my medicines when I travel or leave home to go somewhere and this is good because you can take it on your flights in case you travel often and you can take a single box for each day of the week to carry it with you like if you need to take some medicines right after dinner and you're at the restaurant.

Lavender spray mist: I spray it all over my bed before to go to sleep or when I feel very anxious or stressed. It's easy to carry everywhere and suitable for blankets and bedsheets.

Salt lamp: I have one at home, but I'm planning to buy a smaller one that powers with batteries to carry in my backpack during trips.

More things I suggest are: box of tissues; phone/tablet/ipad/laptop + chargers; Bath & Body Works hand sanitizer with case to hang to your bag/backpack; sunflower badge to wear around your neck if you own one; fidgeting toys or activities like coloring books with crayons; your favourite books or comics to read; anti nausea wristbands; vicks vaporub jar or vapopads; essential oil diffuser with your favourite oils; whatever you may need or whatever makes you comfortable (they don't call it 'comfort kit' for nothing) <3

I keep hearing the word ‘problematic’ freely thrown around like confetti, primarily from the American cultural left and increasingly used in Britain too. This or that is ‘problematic’. It could be anything from a piece of art, or a character in a story, or a sincere belief held, or most commonly when judging the past, not on its own terms, but through the lens of the present. It’s essentially a passive aggressive term to show off a smug superiority that they, and only they, know better. It’s patronising too of course.

So let me point out why I find your thoughts - should I say ‘problematic’? - illuminating.  

I respect your intelligence but isn’t a university education more than just having credentials?

In my corporate work place I manage and work alongside people with the shiniest elite education credentials imaginable. They are all highly motivated individuals representing the cream of the cream of their countries. Yet as smart and clever as they are, they - like me, but not you of course - are prone to doing pretty silly things because they over-think or their cleverness trips them up. Intelligence is not the same as wisdom. This is another way of saying that having university credentials is like having your head as empty as a eunuch’s underpants.

Please, let’s agree to disagree on the politics because I suspect you haven’t really understood what I believe - if you did you might understand on many things we are not that far apart, even though we may very well differ on the premise of a problem. Contrary to what you might presume not everything in life has to be refracted through the lens of your American politics and culture for those of us who live outside of America ie the rest of the world.

Tolkien woke? Oh come now, you’re just teasing. No one versed in Tolkien’s literary works or his life really believes that. You should know better. No, wait. You’re an English Lit prof at an ivy league. That explains everything.

Remember what Tolkien wrote in one of his letters, “Affixing ‘labels’ to writers, living or dead, is an inept procedure, in any circumstances: a childish amusement of small minds: and very ‘deadening’, since at best it over emphasises what is common to a selected group of writers, and distracts attention from what is individual (and not classifiable) in each of them, and is the element that gives them life (if they have any).” We should respect the writer’s own words rather than twist them to fit into any literary fad of the day.

hello overstimulated anon! i struggle w sensory processing disorder so maybe i can offer some tips for you.

(1) i have loop earplugs that i use all the time. you can take a quiz on their website and it will tell you which model is best for you based on how much noise you want to block. but if you do decide to buy them and can’t afford the shipping, they sell them on amazon. the earplugs are not noticeable in your ears.

(2) this is a more expensive option, but a quality pair of over ear noise cancelling headphones also helps.

(3) i keep sour patch kids on my person at all times. the sensation can be really grounding for me. be careful with this and i would suggest testing at home first because it is also possible that instead of grounding you, the sourness can overstimulate you even more.

(4) weighted blankets are expensive so i will sometimes turn the fan on in my room and then lay under several blankets folded in half.

(5) wash your face with REALLY cold water or hold an ice cube either in your hand or to your forehead or neck. the cold can shock your nervous system into resetting itself.

these are all really great tips!! i also have some loop earplugs but i really want some proper noise cancelling ones but they’re too expensive for me rn 🥲 also would love a weighted blanket but also too expensive so the tip about folding blankets is a great one!!

Yikes!

Okay, it’s almost 9pm and I haven’t put a word on this blog yet!  I promised I’d be back today with product endorsements and a couple recipes - so I’ll try to make this fast.  I got a bit sidetracked because we went out to Adkins Arboretum today for Forest Music. The arboretum partnered with Chestertown’s National Music Festival and some wonderful young musicians set up at various spots along the walking trails and played their hearts out.  It was beautiful - walking through the forest in dappled sunlight, wind blowing through the tree tops, and hearing strains of Vivaldi and Mozart drifting throughout. Lovely! It was about 4 o’clock when we returned home and the mister had to get ready to run off to Bad Albert’s restaurant in Chestertown for a photo club meeting.  I was here sealing those rocks that I painted yesterday, then I made a little dinner, and while I ate dinner I watched a murder show...and one murder led to another...and now it’s almost nine!  Oops.  Anywayyyyy, two products I love. THIS, every morning.

Hyaluronic acid from The Ordinary.  It’s eight dollars and change, you can find it at Sephora, Ulta, and I think even Amazon.  You can order straight from The Ordinary website too.  I started using this in early April and I’ve seen a big difference in my old lady face.  Do I look twenty?  Nope. Does it give me the best fifty-nine year old skin I can have? Pretty close. Here’s what The Ordinary says:

                                              They ain’t lyin’. I apply this in the morning after washing my face, whether I’m wearing makeup that day or not.  It soaks in quickly, doesn’t leave residue, and those crinkly lines around my eyes are reduced.  They’re not gone, I mean, I’m almost sixty - but they’ve gone from looking like a zillion little lines to a few.  The hydration is locked in which keeps the skin plump and less crepey. I’m a fan. The second product I like is in the same category.  I’ve actually used this one for several months and I’m crazy about it.  I received a sample from Sephora, tried it, liked it, and bought it.  No regrets.  This one is more expensive, but my bottle is maybe ten months old and I still have about 1/8 of the bottle left. Definitely worth the $34.

Biossance Squalane Oil!  This stuff is the bomb diggity. I apply this at night, after washing my face and brushing my teeth. One pump, patted all over my face, down my neck and décolleté, and the remainder massaged into my hands has been a game-changer.  It’s lightweight, it’s fabulous, and I love it.  This is also available at Sephora and Ulta. Try it!  Remember, both places will take it back if you don’t like it, no questions asked.   Here’s what Biossance says about their squalane oil:

I have to admit, the fact that it saves sharks isn’t all that important to me.  If it was saving kittens I’d buy a bottle a month. What is important to me is that it works beautifully.  My skin is so picky, so sensitive, gets very dramatic over ingredients it doesn’t like (what’s more fun than a zit when you’re 59?), so I’m always thrilled to find pure formulas that do what they promise.  These two do that and I don’t even use them twice daily as recommended.  If I did I imagine that men would be pounding on my door and begging me to run away with them - so really, I’m doing the world a favor by not using each of them twice daily. I hope you read that with the same sarcasm I used while writing it.   Anyway, if you are in the market for something lovely to revive and retain the moisture in your skin, plump it up, and erase some of the mileage - give either or both of those a try.  Sephora is great about providing a sample upon request. They’ll pour or pump some into a little container and let you try a few days worth.  The Ordinary is an effective and very inexpensive line (I mean, less than nine bucks!!!) with lots of bang for your buck.  Biossance is a wonderful, clean line that is a bit pricier but again, great results.  That $34 bottle has lasted months and months and is less than a pizza dinner.  Invest in your skin.
