just remembered the first OC polyamorous relationship i ever wrote way back when i was 15. it was a triad made up of three parents of one of the story's main narrators, except the mom and one of the dads had had to conspire to murder the other dad because of abusive parenting crimes. and then the story largely became about how the two remaining parents had been 100% complicit in the abuse and negligence prior to the murder happening & how a lot of the worst things that happened would NOT have happened if they'd made different choices & how the main narrator had a lot of complicated feelings about these being the parents who survived because they were objectively better parents than the murdered dad, but also he kind of hated both of them, for completely fair negligence-related reasons.

you may be thinking, "wow, that's a lot of domestic violence in your first poly triad. was it because at the time you thought that polyamory would always devolve into toxic and violent bullshit?? was there a time that you hated poly people????"

and the answer is.

no.

it was because i thought it was hot.
