My beloveds <3 I'm not sure there's been ever been characters who've made me feel more(or write so much fic about). I relate to both of them so much with Henry and his nerdy book ways and his depression and the boundless love he has to give, but doesn't realise he deserves. And Alex, and his bisexuality, and wanting to be told he's good, but also how much he needs to realise he's good, without there being any other reason for it, can he can need, and let people know that, and be as loved and worthy regardless. And I love their love, I love it so much.

Meredith Grey/Cristina Yang/Alex Karev

Alex minus his exit storyline that is. I've watched Grey's since 2006, pausing for a few years when they killed Derek, but I got back into it. Out of the characters, and there's many I adore, there's three top the list. Cristina unapologetically going after what she wants, and knowing how amazing she is. Meredith and her dark and twistyness and her determination, and her ability to be extraordinary(fuck you Ellis Grey, for ever making her feel otherwise). And oh god Alex, the arc from unloved neglected kid to lovable, caring, compassionate paediatric attending(again exit storyline not withstanding). Meredith and Derek used to me OTP but yeah no I loved Derek, but fucking hell there was a lot of red flags, so not so much anymore.

Charlotte King

Another Shonda character but she's my favourite PP character(also Amelia, and Addison, Cooper at a push). Similar to Cristina, she knows how good she is, and she's not gonna apologise for that. Also her and Mason's relationship gives me all the feels.

Shout out especially to Monica, the older I get, and the more I ache with how much I want a baby, I relate to her so much. That line where Chandler says 'She's a mother without a baby' I cry every time, cos same Chandler, same.

Argh I'm torn between Seth Cohen(again, not everything he did aged well but the 14 year old in me still wants to marry him), Charlie and Brax from Home and Away(I spent a year of my life obsessing over them, ship ship ship), oh and Beth Pearson!! All the Pearsons except for Kate and Kevin who annoy the fuck out of me, oh my god fuck how could I forget Lorelai Gilmore?

I've already cheated but Lorelai Gilmore/Beth Pearson for that last, not really, spot, I mean Lorelai is iconic. Beth is just the MVP in that family, and I adore her and Randall.

Tiktok Headcannons for the gang! Because i use that platform way too much

Hosea's tiktok is one of those old people's tiktoks who always duet people and gives honest, good advice. He's always responding to people, and likes comments about being people's dad or grandparent :) he also does lives (livestreams) of him doing crosswords every Sunday. Like a mix of elijahstroman7 and annrussell03.

Dutch's tiktok is one third failed intentional thirst traps, one third dueting women he likes with his unblinking face as the video, and one third political and philosophical rants.

Lenny's account is full of well-made videos about technology, news/politics, and literature/"booktok". His editing is top-notch and he has a large following! Lenny's followers love his sense of fashion, calling him a fashion Icon - some even draw fanart of him! He is verified, much to the annoyance of Sean. He has a side account just for his cat.

Mary-Beth's account is fandom anthropology (think, academia on fandom and fanfic but presented in layman's terms), fanfic culture, and cosplay.

Tilly has an aesthetic account. It's like a hidden gem; it's not popular or verified, but everyone who comes across it loves it. She posts various aesthetics, and takes requests! Her most popular tiktok is about yellow aesthetic. She also rarely posts tiktoks with her face in it, but they do well and the comments are nice :)

Karen is a fashion and make-up account. People love her creative looks and her outfit choices. She likes to do lives (livestreams) where she drinks, chats with the audience, and does her make-up.

Javier's tiktok is just him posting songs and song covers - his is the most popular out of the whole gang! Javier is verified, and has a merch store and a Spotify.

Sean has a combined shitpost/weirdtok/commentary account. He dances sometimes, too. His account is very eclectic, but has a small but dedicated following. Has been on tiktok the longest, but has the least followers and is not verified. Has a secret spam account that is much more popular about vlogging with his friends and the gang!

Abigail has a mom account, and posts crock-pot recipes. She's doing her best. Occasionally she posts a "lol my partner is incompetent 🤣" "funny" video and those get really popular.

John's account is all about animals he met on the street and weird situations he finds himself witnessing (e.g. a car riding on train tracks). He posts a lot about Cain, then Rufus. Dog person.

Arthur's account is very country? He talks about his horse a lot, and dances to country tunes. He has a series where he annoys members of the gang. Nothing he posts is something he hated doing; Arthur loves creating content!

Charles unintentionally makes thirst traps with his content of survival/bushcraft, cooking, and indigenous issues and culture. He's got a lot of thirsty followers, but a lot of genuine ones too. His cooking videos are very ASMR, and sometimes they spawn video chains of musicians jamming out to it.

Sadie is deep into political tiktok. She's avid about gun rights and is a feminist. She also shows herself working out a lot, and a large number of her followers are wlw.

Kieran's tiktok is about all the pets he has, whom he loves to bits. He's been asked for a face reveal, but he's too shy. There is a conspiracy that he's secretly The Rock.

Pearson has a tiktok cooking account, but its only about Barbecuing. He once tried to make a dish with vegetables, but users mass reported it for disturbing content and it got taken down.

Grimshaw has an account, but doesn't post. She just downloads everything she likes to watch later (she doesn't). One of her favorite accounts is a lady who talks about etiquette while cleaning silver.

Swanson has a tiktok, but its only about religion. He is nice and welcoming and great and courteous to everyone who asks! He loves talking about Exodus, Psalms, Job, Ezekiel, Acts, John, Philippians, Hebrews, and 1 Peter.

Strauss is big into business and is pro-capitalism, and flogs cryptocurrency and NFTs through tiktok. He also posts about the successful secrets of billionaires and the stock market. Blocks all those who disagree with his takes, and 9 times out of 10 doesn't allow comments on his videos. He got most of his followers during the GME craze. Is hurting quite a bit now that the NFT market has collapsed and crypto is on the downturn.

Molly doesn't have a tiktok - she thinks it's a terrible platform and beneath her. Prefers Instagram reels.

Bill doesn't understand tiktok well, so he doesn't post. But he is an avid commenter, often getting pinned or featured in "weird tiktok comments" compilations.

Micah keeps getting banned from tiktok. He doesn't understand how, but he does. Maybe it's all the gun videos he posts, or getting reported for his constant hate speech? Who knows!

In the modern time, what would the modern gang members listen to and why would Dutch listen to the beach boys? *3*

Dutch - yes of course Dutch would listen to the beach boys but he'd hide it as if it's an illegal drug. Around others he'd force himself to listen to classical music to try and seem sophisticated. But at night when no one else is around, he's vibing to Good Vibrations.

Arthur - he's a country boy. Arthur will jam out to some Johnny Cash or Dolly Parton any day.

John - Normally John is stuck listening to Kids Bop whenever Jack is around. The only problem is that now he unironically listens to them when Jack isn't around.

Charles - After a long and stressful day, there's nothing Charles loves more than listening to some Nicki Minaj or Lil Nas X

Bill - He's the biggest Lady Gaga fan. He knows nearly every single one of her songs and Bill has watched A Star is Born over 20 times.

Javier - He listens to all types of music. One second he's listening to Miley Cyrus and the next he's singing along to some Mother Mother.

Micah - Micah says he only likes rock music and heavy metal but he knows all the words to Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver and Never Gonna Give You Up by the icon Rick Astley.

Lenny - He only knows songs from TikTok. Lenny will renegade at any given moment and he isn't afraid to throw it back.

Sean - Sean doesn't listen to music, he makes music. He thinks he's an incredible singer and has the potential to become a superstar... don't ruin his dreams.

Trelawny - He exclusively listens to grime.

Uncle - Dubstep. Just dubstep.

Pearson - Pearson loves jazz. He's actually trying to set up a jazz band but it's just him and the trumpet player from Saint Denis. If you know anyone that would be interested in joining a jazz band, please let him know.

Kieran - all I'm gonna say is that his favourite song is the My Little Pony theme song.

Susan - She feels like a badass bitch when she listens to These Boots are made for Walking by Nancy Sinatra and I agree with her.

Tilly - She's a disco queen. Tilly will dance until her heart's desire to some Gloria Gaynor, Bee Gees and Boney M.

Mary-Beth - she's a musical fanatic. Mary-Beth will rap all of Hamilton to you and she once tried to get Tilly and Karen to preform the choreography of Candy Store from Heathers.

Karen - Karen's a big alt/rock fan. She loves Oasis, Gorillaz, Artic Monkeys, Guns N' Roses and The Killers.

Molly - She loves early 2000s pop. Molly has no problem doing a dance routine to any Nelly Furtado song or Gwen Stefani song

With Sean returning to camp, a party was bound to happen, mostly because Sean wanted a warm welcome back and everybody was down to drink.

Dutch cranked his phonograph up, though it wasn't loud enough to drown out the sound of Javier on the guitar and a few camp members singing along by the campfire.

Everybody seemed to be getting on, sharing drinks, chatting and gossiping away. You had mingled throughout the night and found yourself leaning back against Pearsons cooking table after picking up another bottle of beer.

Dutch had made quite the scene when asking Molly to dance, and everybody knows those two feed off the attention they get. A handful of eyes watched them as they swayed and twirled, but eventually turned back to focus on their business.

In some ways, you were slightly jealous. It would be nice to have somebody to dance with, though most of the camp members are already occupied with their own things, and you didn't want to disturb anybody or come across as needy.

The sight of that iconic white hat catches your attention in the corner of your eye, and you notice Micah pick up another beer, then trail over to lean against a tree over by the horses.

He seems content for once, gazing around the camp and sticking to the comfort of his own company. In some ways, you could relate to him, often finding yourself as a loner, just like you are now.

You notice the way Micah keeps watching Dutch and Molly dance, and his foot taps ever so slightly to the music, though not enough to be too noticeable.

Why not ask him to dance? The worst he can do is say no, maybe insult you a little. His responses always depend on what mood he's in, and he seems calm now, so if he doesn't want to, he'll politely let you down.

You trail over after finishing your drink and leaving it on the table that you were leaning against. Micah doesn't notice you right away, but his eyes eventually wander over to you as you approach him.

"Hey," you simply say, to which Micah greets you back.

"Here to cause some trouble, cowpoke?" Micah teases, curious to see what you're after. He rarely ever gets anybody approaching him, and when somebody does approach, it's usually to start an argument.

"If you class trouble as asking you to dance then yeah, sure," you laugh back.

"W-what?" Micah questions as he stands upright, his body facing yours. There's an obviously confused look on his face, and he briefly dips his hat so he can collect his feelings and put that confident act back on, though you can tell it's slipping.

"You heard me. You wanna dance with me, Micah?"

"How many drinks have you had, sweetheart? Must be a lot if you're asking old Micah to dance," he shakes his head but offers you his hand as his way of saying yes.

"Clearly, I ain't had enough," you tease, stopping in front of Dutch's tent.

Micah confidentially keeps his hand out whilst his other dips down to your waist, though his confident act quickly flies out the window as he realizes that he has NO idea how to dance.

He peeks over to Dutch and Molly who are staring at him in shock. They quickly look away and continue to dance, acting as if they weren't just whispering about what the hell is going on.

"You want me to take the lead?" you offer, making his eyes snap back over to you as he tries to settle his nerves.

"If you would be so kind," Micah responds, though you know that's his own version of saying "yes please because I have no idea what I'm doing."

You softly sway, and Micah takes a little time to match your speed and rhythm. He feels a little silly, especially now most of the camp has caught on, watching the two of you dance.

Half of them are in pure shock that Micah has managed to get somebody to physically touch him, let alone dance with him. Whilst the other half are just making sure that he doesn't try anything stupid.

The amount of doubt and fear that Micah feels from the other camp members makes Micah put his usual act back on. He slips his hand round to the small of your back, holding you firmly, and surprises you with a small dip, pulling you back up a little too close to his chest.

You let out a laugh as Micah surprises you with his flourish. Your hand grips onto Micahs tighter, making him smile as he realises that he has nothing to worry about. You're clearly enjoying yourself, and if somebody were to try and intervene, he knows you would shoo them away.

The camp eventually goes back to whatever they were doing, though they're all questioning why the hell you would dance with that man.

If you want to turn Micah back into a flustered mess then move your other hand around his shoulder, get a little closer to him, play with the ends of his hair.

Flirt. with. him.

Micah will try and reply confidently but it's hard to keep his ego act up when he's got a pretty camp member in his arms, looking at him with lovestruck eyes.

Everything might become too much and Micah will just say 'fuck it' and kiss you. Oh, what a sight that'll be for the rest of the camp.

Unlocking the Secrets of our Floral Teacups

While “Save-the-Dishes” sounds like a fantastic social media hashtag, HDVI Administrative Director Kimberly Ward launched this campaign in 2002 to “create the proper atmosphere for interpretation of the period of occupation”. While the dishes were only the first wave of a larger Victorian Parlor drive (click here to read about our wall covering!), our bone china absolutely delights our visitors today as people recognize and recall their memories enjoying the Old Country Roses Style.

Debuting in 1962, it featured “gorgeous clusters of red, pink, and yellow roses, flamboyant edging and 22 carat gold embellishments”. Harold Holdcroft drew upon different inspirations from the 1921 King’s Ransom pattern to the beauty of a quintessential English country garden in the “haze of summertime.” While this iconic style excited people in the 1960s, the pottery had enticed customers from the late 1890s.Thomas C. Wild purchased Albert Works pottery in 1896 in Stoke-on-Trent named to pay homage to the birth of Prince Albert the previous year. After producing commemorative pieces for Queen Victoria’s 1897 Diamond Jubilee, Albert Crown China earned the Royal Warrant in 1904. By 1910, the Company had expanded to New Zealand and would eventually produce in Australia, Canada, and the U.S. with their innovative gas and electric fired kilns. In 1917, Thomas Wild’s sons joined the company changing the name to Thomas Wild & Sons and the Royal Albert Incorporated as a limited company in 1933. Pearson Group acquired the pottery in the 1960s adding it to the company’s other Allied English Potters. By 1970, the company officially disassociated itself with T.C. Wild & Sons renaming it to Royal Albert Ltd. The marks on the china also changed from simple printed or impressed crown marks with the initials “T.C.W.” to concentric circle to a crown interlocking.

While our pattern is English, the fashion and etiquette of elaborate tea services went beyond any one border and certainly predates the 1960s! Colonial Americans enjoyed imported beverages like tea and highly valued serving these drinks in fine silver and ceramic vessels. By the start of the 18th century, American silversmiths produced teapots – at first globular and then eventually drum and oval shaped. Sugar bowls, tea pots, hot water urns, and canisters for dried tea leaves all populated the tables of the wealthy in attempt to impress their visitors. Meanwhile, the British searched for an alternative to importing porcelain from China and Thomas Frye incorporated an interesting ingredient to his Bow Porcelain Factory productions in 1748 – bone. His factory was close to slaughterhouses and the introduction of bone ash produced sturdier teaware. This idea caught on and by 1780, Joseph Spode of Stoke-on-Trent, introduced “Stoke China” until his son renamed it to “bone china” after his death. Adding bone ash also creates a creamier and softer color and can be admired when held up into the light as it is more translucent than fine china, which contains no bone.

The “Save-the-Dishes” Campaign was an overwhelming success thanks to: The Prince William County Historical Commission, The Dr. Elisha Dick Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; Charles Reid, Wayne Neavear, Catherine Patterson, Edward and Mary Roman, Isabelle M. Lockett, Laura A. Barlow, Barbara Shutt, visitors, volunteers, and HDVI staff. As you walk into our Victorian Parlor, take time to admire the pieces but also think of the delightful recipes you could pair with it, such as Malinda Russell’s Raspberry Tea Cake, her cakes famous for being so light: “One cup white sugar, one pint sour cream, three tablespoons melted butter, three cups flour, one and a half teaspoon soda, two do. Cream tartar, grated nutmeg, mix into a batter; pour over sheet paper into dripping-pan; bake in a quick oven; when done, cut into squares, crush the berries, and sweeten to your taste. Cover the cake with berries…” For more recipes, look for Malinda Russell’s A Domestic Cook Book published in 1866, recognized as one of the oldest cookbooks written by an African-American woman.
