At this point I started to think harder about the songs that have meant the most to me throughout my life and as I've gotten older. For example, I like a lot of Bright Eyes songs more than First day, but that song has had way more impact on me. I play it all the time, the lyrics are permanently imprinted in my mind, and to me it's one of the most beautiful and vulnerable love songs ever written. With that in mind more and more "important" songs started coming to mind.

Now I have ten, that was easy.

Except...

I remembered that one Demarco song that makes me cry everytime I hear it. Got to include that. How many times have I listened to the Glow pt 2 during the summer? How could I leave off something from Porcupine Tree, the band that I once considered my favorite band of all time? So I kept going, through names and bands that I collect like emotional trophies, not wanting to leave anything out. They all mean so much, it's honestly pathetic. I used to hyperfixate on things like Zelda and Star Wars, then I found this shit and my brain chemistry has been altered ever since.

11. Mac Demarco - Moonlight on the River 12. Mitski - Texas Reznikoff 13. The Microphones - I Want the Wind to Blow 14. Pigeon Pit - Nights like These 15. Radiohead - Exit Music 16. The Crane Wives - Never Love an Anchor

Funny how quickly a song can feel like home. That Crane Wives song technically shouldn't even be here, I only heard it for the first time a few weeks ago. Yet maybe listening to it 30 times since qualifies it for consideration. Phoebe Bridgers has a lyric in one of her songs about wishing she had written something instead of the original artist, but she can't cause they said it first. So instead she'll learn their song and sing until the feverish inspired feeling fades away in a voyeuristic catharsis.

I think about that line constantly. Also quickly want to mention here that I'm more of an album guy. I try to listen to full records to try an experience the full piece of art the creator made. So while no song off The Downward Spiral is on my list of favorite songs, that was and is one of the most impactful albums to me as a teenager.

Swans was hard, because there were a few songs that meant a lot to me. But ultimately there wasn't one more visceral or frankly more evil sounding than New Mind. Love the themes, love the singing style, love the backing yells, love the industrial outro, love the faint organ, love everything about that damn song.

The list kept getting longer, and for each song I was writing a paragraph to explain my choice lol. After the first like 15 I decided to stop doing that for the sake of your eyes and for risk of sounding redundant. But a major thing I love about some of these songs are how inspirational they are. Twin Sized Mattress, Denton Metal Band, Story of an Artist, they all paint a picture of the type of person I want to be. The type of art I will always support. The thing I hope to one day inspire in other people.

When you punish a person for dreaming their dream don't expect them to thank or forgive you. The best ever death metal band out of Denton, will in time both outpace and outlive you.

Those words could honestly save someone's life, it's crazy.

Okay, threw these and now dozens more names are crowding my brain, and this incredibly pretentious post must come to an end. Long story short, I only have one song left to share, but each of these song has a very personal connection to me. Certain ones (like that tool song) actually changed the way I look at the world and helped me through dark periods of my life.

Many of them inspire me, some of them are just beautiful in a broken and real sorta way, and all of them feel human. The art represents something bigger than itself and the ambition knows no bounds. These songs changed my world for the better, and if you read this you are now obligated to listen to all of them.

The whole family again! We gathered at my parents house this year, and when we're here we all stay in their house in our old rooms so it's like a giant sleepover. The kids love being at granny and papa's house, they get to stay up late and eat all the sweet treats that they want to. Being in Newcrest also means they hang out with their 'cousins', technically their second cousins but in the end we're all family. My parents have been spending their time going round to see all of us, they swap visits to Britechester with Abbey and Adam, they come to Windenburg to see us, and they head into Willowcreek to see Tanner and Tabitha.

Abbey (31) & Adam Hill (31)

Abbey and Adam are still splitting their time between Sulani and Britechester, they've recently mentioned taking a more permanent position so they can have more stability. It's definitely something they're praying about as it would involve a big change for them. They haven't said anything about children, but they said maybe once they stop moving around so much..

Colton (33), Brittany (31), Nicole (6), Elizabeth, (2)

We are just loving life and thanking the Lord for his goodness! Nicole turned 6 so we've gone headfirst into homeschooling, we spend our mornings and part of the afternoon reviewing and learning new bible verses for memorisation. Colton's mum Vanessa is great at doing extra reading with the girls, Nicole reads aloud to her every evening before we have dinner either in person or they'll video chat. My parents also video chat with the kids so they can do their scripture memory together. Colton and I are thankful for strong foundations that point us to the Lord constantly, almost everyone in our lives does so and for that we are thankful.

Tanner (28), Tabitha (23), TJ (2), and Ember (6m)

Tanner and Tabs have had a great year, earlier in the year they welcomed little Ember to their family. Tanner and Tabitha are overjoyed to have a little girl and TJ is such a doting big brother. Apparently the inspiration for her name was her inheriting her mother's red hair, maybe our mum's genes also helped contribute to her hair colouring. Tanner marrying a redhead is so on point as it seems we're almost at an even split between redheads and non redheads - he's outnumbered in his house. With them living in Willowcreek, Tabitha gets to see her family often as they still live there, but after much prayer and consideration Tanner has decided to take a job at Newcrest General hospital so the family is moving back to our hometown.

Okay but like. cWilbur calling cPhil a liar is so……. I know earlier I was clowning on him because from a WRITING standpoint I don’t know why Wilbur felt the need to shove cPhil characterization into his storyline when he mentions him only once and it’s tagged against the same board as Schlatt and Quackity. The three are. Not Easy To Categorize.

But from a cWilbur standpoint it makes sense for him to say cPhil is a liar. He’s the guys son. Every kid has said their parent is a liar for no reason other than sometimes it’s just how you feel. Many of these emotions travel into adulthood and translate into your children (in this case, Ranboo and Tommy). cWilbur isn’t saying Phil is a liar because he hates him or because he genuinely Thinks That. Not in this context.

cPhil lied when he said cWilbur would live. You’ve won, you won back L’Manburg. Step away from the button.

He lied about that, not because it wasn’t true but because Wilbur doesn’t think it is. He thinks he lost L’Manburg totally and with an air of finality.

He calls Phil a liar because Phil believes in him. Him, Wilbur, the terrorist, failure, twice-removed son of God(dess), the man who lost his country to a drunk and the walking image of a second place medal. Phil is a liar because Phil loves him, and he sacrificed himself for him, and he raised him, and it’s his Job to believe in Wilbur. And Wilbur hates himself so badly that he has to assume that Phil is the one in the wrong, because admitting that Phil might be Right about him being worth it. That’s. That’s too much for him, right now.

Ranboo himself says that Wilbur isn’t all that bad, that he has space to change and all he needs is support. Ranboo notices how Phil doesn’t hold any hurt or anger against Wilbur for what he’s done, he doesn’t stick him with knives, he doesn’t blame him for his wings. Ranboo takes the same approach to Wilbur that Phil does, given a little softer and a little more inexperienced. Phils done this Wilbur’s whole life, Ranboo started yesterday.

I think that’s why I see the “Phil is a liar, and I’m not.” As both an amazing piece of characterization and connection, and something that’s bound to blow up back in everyone’s faces (haha). Twitter has already started to take Wilbur as the word of God on this, instead of actually analyzing Why he said that. It’s good because it shows us that Wilbur is convinced he’s irredeemable, and by saying that Phil (who sees him as good and loves him unconditionally) is a liar for thinking he has a chance, he basically places himself as the controller of his own person. If Wilbur never lies, and Wilbur says that Wilbur is bad, then everyone who says he’s good is a liar, and they’re no better than Schlatt. Because loving Wilbur isn’t something that Wilbur sees as right.

Not to be that guy but. Those cabins will always stand there and I think that’s so important. It’s my favorite fixture in that server and the amount of comfort and sense of home I get from some pixels is unparalleled. Those cabins are a home and that place is solace from the cold and I think that it’s all gonna be okay. And I think I’m gonna go into my mind palace and sit in the comfortable chairs I’ve always imagined in those cabins and it’s all gonna be okay.
