I really feel tremendous grief for friendships that kind of petered away in the face of life's currents. There are people with whom I formed deep, unique, vibrant, life-changing connections, and then we had to go our separate ways and it was too hard to maintain long-distance. There wasn't a fight, it just sort of faded. And I feel like I have more friendships like this than friendships that have endured, so maybe I just have to get used to it. But if grief is all the love we have left over - well, I never did get to finish loving them. I love them, and I miss them, and I probably always will.

I think it says a lot about my friend group that when we search the internet for our dream homes, we look at mansions and talk about how our big group could all live there together. There's just something different about our friendship, like how we fantasize about being roommates forever instead of owning our own houses or all marrying each other as a joke. The roots of the group go back over five years, we spend so much time together at school, and we hang out outside of school too. It's a really healthy thing, and it goes beyond the typical sort of friendship I've experienced. We have a relationship that is beyond friends but not completely romantic. It's just wonderfully, irreplaceably different.

Thinking about the way noir and Hobie were most likely treated because of how they look and being severely underestimated because of it.

Hobie looks and acts like a punk. He is just unserious enough to not be taken seriously. The dude is smart enough to recreate a dimension jumping watch from scraps, that people WATCH him steal and go “ugh sorry about that, he’s always like that”. And they treat him like an instigative child. Meanwhile this man is staging an interdimensional coup and is essentially a rebel freedom fighter in his own world. He is incredibly strategic and a genius while also being kind and sticking to his guns. And as a reminder, without knowing Miles or how his powers worked for even two minutes he was able to accurately help him improve his abilities! Man is observant and a quick thinker! But he’s quiet about it!

Noir dresses and sounds like an ‘oldtimer’ bc he’s from the 1930s. People probably went “ah yes grandpa” with the assumption of a mild mannered, old, and jaded private eye. Probably thought of as behind the times and not as intelligent because of lack of experience with technology. But overall first impression was of a sensible hardworking guy, and at worst melodramatic. In reality, dude is more than mildly neurotic, has severe anger issues, and prone to getting into fights. A raised socialist activist, who has very little to lose, and has canonically burned down the Statue of Liberty, shockingly he is a bit of a wildcard. And more than likely got kicked off/quit the ‘elite strike force’ for those reasons. But he’s also resourceful, smart, and quick to adapt.

Both of these characters are going to be a force to be reckoned with when they get together. Very much house on fire that burns down the entire neighborhood type relationship. I’m very excited.

I think part of what makes the word friend so hilariously out of place is that, obviously we know they're in love yes, but even if we believed them in this fiction that they're totally platonic, friend would still not be an adequate word. They're partners in literally everything they do in life, both professional and personal; they own a house together; they need holidays with just the two of them to feel properly relaxed; they're absolutely attached at the hip. I adore my friends, but if I were that close with any of them that would be my partner irrespective of any romantic feelings.

And of course, they are also in love.

Talking with my friend/crush today made me realize just how much I want to just be childish and happy. I want to talk with him and our friends about trivial stuff and to just hang out while we're young. I want to maybe ask him out even.

But no, for some shitty reason, both of us are having friends pulled away. My best friend (also his friend) moved to California this week, and his best friend (also my friend) is probably going to have to move in a few months too. I just want to spend time with this group being playful and loving each other, but right now it's hard. And I don't think I can ask him out because I'm already so worried about him because of his best friend leaving. I know what that feels like, and I don't want to jeopardize our friendship when he could really use a friend right now. I want us to be more, but I can't risk him feeling more alone.

I've just been thinking about this group so much and this is yet another angle that is killing me right now. Why is happiness too much to ask?

Every time he talks about their relationship he comes up with the most romantic and thoughtful ways to describe them. His love and understanding of Buck and Eddie just pours out of him. Nothing the writers come up with is going to be as heartfelt and genuine as what we'll get if they just let Ryan say what he feels.
