Lilis Palace, quite literally

Hello everyone, I have been working on this Hungarian-inspired mansion for quite a while now, and although I have taken many liberties (especially the back area with the pool) I think it looks Hungarian enough, especially thanks to the amazing cc from @lilis-palace,

this mansion is BG + free packs only (romantic garden, holiday pack, backyard pack)

How do you get the ideas for your backgrounds?

mmm ideas.... sometimes i draw the background directly from a photo reference (the happy case) so there's not a lot for me to change and i can have a rather peaceful painting process

othertimes, the BG is tied to the subject/concept/scene I'm thinking of, so it only makes sense that i have that as the background

for example, for this fem skk art, i knew i wanted to have chuu kneeling in a crater after destroying a city so drawing that background was just a logical follow-up because i already had the entire idea in mind

Here, I wanted to have Akiangel sit on a building, watching over the city. The ominous sign with "the day of salvation" and crow came later after I found this picture on Pinterest, so they helped further develop the concept, but the main idea was there and so on

The third background option happens when my painting doesn't depict a certain irl scene or landscape, nor do i have any particular references i can use. In that situation, I first and foremost think about the general composition, the shapes, how they flow with each other, how I can tie them to my main theme and what sort of symbolism or little easter eggs i can throw in there just to keep it fresh and interesting for the viewer ( aka the person reading this aha ;;) :-* )

For this piece, i started with a big circle for the background, and then I started breaking it up in pleasing, cloud-like shapes and swirls that constantly keep your eye moving around the picture (i mean hopefully lol). The composition was inspired by a) Dazai's Mayoi card ofc, that trad Eastern illustration style with the circle and then branches of trees, and also .. kazuha's splash art ok i admit it bshsj

for this one, the roses came much, much later. Again, I added that sort of golden arcade to better frame the focal point or the main subject of the scene which was ofc her face and/or outfit. Then, since it still felt rather empty, awkward, and directionless, I tried finding a pleasing, spiral line that would compliment the already existing shapes and that would, again, move your eye all around the composition. I figured since her outfit already had those small roses stuffed in her belt, those curvy lines could become some bloody, spikey roses and boom! here are the theme and elements for you: blacks-roses-blood-deadly-sharp-gold etc. I then had her crush some of those roses in her right (ik it's the left hand shut up) hand to balance out the busier left side

and a last example, sometimes I draw multiple character poses in one piece and they sort of become my background. Yet I still have some blank spaces left so i gotta figure out a way to fill them out. Here, since the pose where he's all curled up was inspired by the TDIPUD light novel, i drew him as a "corpse" in a pool of blood, and contrasted it with some nice flowery-ish patterns and swirls that sort of come from within that bloody mess ( someone also mentioned it looks like a womb which I found very interesting as well ). The cats also helped fill out the space. On the left side, i added that swirly black sun that drips into three squares that gradually fill up with straight blackness and raindrops falling below inspired by the "a conviction that the sun will never rise again" line. I don't think I should go into detail with the symbolism cause it's pretty obvious and not that deep so i won't but yeah, and that's my BG all filled up!

I do this with most of my BGs, it's mostly just abstract shapes; I'm very fixated on making the overall composition look okay and for the piece to send a message ( most of the time ), so i don't think of backgrounds as a separate entity, they are part of an already existing idea, generally speaking.

This kinda turned into a composition discussion midway......... sorry about that....... To be completely honest with you, I have plenty of BG ideas, they kinda just spawn in my brain so i'm not exactly lacking in that department. Having to draw them and finding refs is the hard part for me

Hello, I return with gifts. Happy holidays folks, to celebrate the new year and festivities I bear good news for anybody who desires more Jerma.

I have created series two, The New Prophecy.

Another whooping six book covers to fulfill the Jermacy. My motivation to make these declined over the following weeks of my original creations but spiked one day with vengeance. I believe these are my best work and the sixth cover is arguably the best in the series, but you’ll view that one last. I don’t know when the best time is to post them, so I might as well start now.

I’ve looked at the New Prophecy covers, and I had SO many ideas. I could incorporate Jerma in so many inconceivable terrible ways and nobody could stop me! But I realized that if I wanted to do more than just the first two series, I would run into a LOT of difficulty beyond them. I could squeeze him into those paintings too, but most of those pictures don’t even have cats in them. Why would Jermastar be there if his clanmates cannot be? Another thing to consider is that the OG cover art doesn’t continue beyond Omen of the Stars. The new ones don’t offer me much room to drop Jerma onto, would I put him behind somebody’s shoulder? I could see myself doing it once, but since most of the new covers are direct shots of characters on nondescript bgs there wouldn’t be much room for creativity or variety.

It also makes me wonder, since Jermastar and Firestar are both protags of their arcs, why would he be on a cover that doesn’t contain his pov? I think he fits in the second series covers just fine, but beyond there I get confused story-wise. Though I do guarantee that even after the focus would drift from Jermastar that he’d still be important. It doesn’t matter if Jermastar had slain Ballfondler in cold blood countless seasons ago, his POV will be included from the depths of StarClan staring at the viewing pool like a nature documentarian as an epilogue.

2/20/24 wtf dream

had a dream that drake and elon musk said they were leaving twitter and mentioning creaming and everyone collectively started losing their shit. razzle and microwave society and all the commentary bros were swirling around in this big hot tub vortex of melted down peanut m&ms and white chocolate reece's pieces. also glados confessed her love to me for some reason? and other shit happened?

I remember another part of the dream I had applied to an art school and was making oil paintings

2/13/24 weird ass piss dream

Woke up around 3 today from a weird fucking dream where I had to usethe bathroom so bad but I was lost in my grandmothers house and could NOT find a toilet, but there were a million bathrooms and bathtubs and I kept running around through the house where i found multiple bathrooms, no toilet. then I went outside for some reason, and went to the community pool. and for some reason I was like “ok I gotta wash off the piss” (because yes, I DID piss myself in this dream, I should've stated that earlier. pants were soaked 💀 ) also keep in mind, I was NOT wearing any pants or underwear at this moment. the pool was really nice and warm and I thought I was ALONE. but I quickly realized I was NOT. there were like? these guys at the far end of the pool. and I was like “oh god oh god Im so sorry! i thought I was by myself ah im sorry” I quickly got out of the pool, and Im pretty sure they saw my bare fucking ass. oh well

I ran out of the community pool. and back towards the back gate leading to the house. but I realized they were following me. and they started talking to me and flirting with me. they thought I was a girl? I guess? because obviously I don't pass. (and obviously I dont have anything eugh, down there) keep in mind im still fucking naked. and im just like “no, no thank you. not interested” and I went back to my room. and then I woke up.

Jan 2024 (actual date unknown) fucking crazy ass dream

I fell asleep in bed at around 11 AM all I remember from the dream is I was making coffee and we were watching WWDITS and this trio of monster high/equestria esque girls started being really fucking mean to me they fucking BROKE my switch in half and they called me slurs and beat me up

their encounter happened several times

also this is later on in the dream

but sakurai was with fukurashi and he was wearing like… a bathrobe? or pajamas? with shorts and slippers i can’t remember very much (he also had cat ears) i just remember he was very flustered and I thought it was cute and then I woke up and it took me an hour or two to realize it was not real and i was like DAMMIT!

5/3/24 what is going on here

woke up at 11 pm and remembered I had a dream that I vc'd with friends after a million years despite my mic not working and the fact I had to work on exam prepping, I vividly remember us playing jackbox/gartic phone. also I remember a fucking heavy metal version of "colors of the wind" from Pocahontas was playing in the bg. interesting so choice, but yes to the ferrets, in my dream I had gotten a ferret, he was really friendly and sleepy and I held him in my arms, he was just a little guy. I let him sleep on my bed! this is probably because i've been watching a lot of ferret videos lol been thinking about ferrets a lot

also I remember trying to make a cool ass slipknot music video but I didn't know what the hell I was doin, I remember a giant cow/goat head hanging on the wall and I made him talk like a puppet lipsyncing to the song, lol it was really weird... my mind bro

6/22/24 wtf dream

woke up at 2am, I had a dream that someone I followed on insta who had vehemently stated they hate harry potter and jk rowling all of a sudden started buying harry potter merch? despite what they had just stated. also part of the dream was me watching the fresh prince of bel air and also getting to see my old neighborhood from my childhood. I remember picking up a scruffy looking dog named Dwight and taking him with me

6/19/24 fuck ass wtf dream???

I slept a majority of the night and day very vivid dream where it was the apocalypse in a pocket dimension. I was bitten by a rattlesnake TWICE, I could feel that shit, the venom pumping through was crazy. the snake was big asf too and stalked me it was so fucked up

Heyo, another part of Fixing RWBY be out already! Here comes more of that tasty art I made for the vod!

This was such a nice, tender moment to draw. I concentrated really hard on capturing that ghibli squish, and the relief on Yang’s face at having Ruby safe and sound again.

There was so much going on in this scene, I decided to do it more like an animatic with storyboards! :0 It’s been a long time since I did something like that, so it was fun and challenging in its own ways! Being able to draw so much of Shiloh and his expressions was especially nice.

Fun fact, this was the second pickup I ever did after finishing my main assignments! It was really satisfying to paint, I’m so happy with how it turned out. Also lol at Weiss just melting into the water.

In case it wasn’t obvious, here I just grabbed the bg from the previous image, and drew the men on top. xD Waste not want not! I also liked making the water mysteriously more shallow for their pool. It was also fun to give each of the men slightly different physiques and muscle shapes~ That’s all for now, I’ll see you again for the next(and final!) video for Fixing RWBY volume 5. There’ll be a TON more art to share which I’ve been holding back on all this time, so I’m excited~ Till then!

fuck it. balance youtuber au because i’ve been thinking about it

the twins have a joint channel but they post things together as often as they make videos on their own. they do vlogs, story times, and challenge videos both together and not, but do stuff with fashion/makeup together. taako does cooking on his own and lup does chemistry experiments that involve fire more often than not. if someone says they like the twins’ videos it’s a wild card as to what they watch them for, but everyone ends up liking all of their content because who can hate the twins? they have a lot of “annoying influencer” energy but are actually really nice to fans/people in general and donate a lot of their Youtube Money to charities and stuff (all of the ipre does this too because fuck rich people except for them)

magnus’ channel is mostly woodworking/construction projects. he does occasional story times and in every one he’s carving and/or painting a wooden duck. he does vlogs too and half of them are him buying more woodworking stuff (idk shit about it so idk what he’d get lol) and the other half have a part where he sees someone walking a dog and him going to meet them. almost every video includes/mentions julia and people make “magnus talking about julia” compilations bc he loves his wife and talks about her all the time. he’s very positive in general and everyone loves how he’s a human golden retriever

merle’s channel is 99% gardening, 1% collating with the others. he made one joke along the lines of plant fucking and it was not serious at all but his subscribers/followers made into such a big joke that he makes at least one joke per video except for when his kids are in the video, which is when he makes it suuuper educational and fun and wholesome. mookie tries to eat the plants and play with the soil and mavis tells her dad about what she’s learned about biology in school. also he puts “(emotional)” and “(not clickbait)” at the end of video titles randomly despite knowing what they mean

barry’s channel is science-centric (yes he collabs with lup frequently) but about more feilds of science. sometimes he goes on rants about theoretical physics like a madman a la bdg’s unraveled series and sometimes he makes videos titled “making the volcano kitchen experiment but the size of a kiddie pool (emotional).” he also has a series about paranormal activity/cryptids, stuff like “why ghosts should be and are real” and “my top five favorite pieces of bigfoot evidence” and like i said this is a no magic au but he once was asked in a q&a about what he’d do if he was a lich and gave a surprisingly detailed response? people were really confused but intrigued?? did barry invent magic???

lucretia 100% has an art channel, but she also writes prose and poetry in her free time and sometimes reads them for videos. she posts speedpaints of her work (digital and traditional) with her telling her process/inspiration or doing story times as the background audio. she had a period of time where she started writing a whole novel in her spare time (basically the balance story but different characters) and all her videos were her making concept art. her fans loved it and boosted it to the point where it actually got published, so now she’s a best selling author with a seven book series. now she keeps making videos of her concept art for other book ideas (the other arcs) with her infodumping about the characters/plot/etc

davenport doesn’t actually have a channel, but has been in the background of all the others’ videos to the point where he’s treated like a cryptid and has a small fanbase of his own. he’s mostly in merle’s videos (because they’re dating) and magnus’ vlogs (because magnus Loves His Friends) but he’s been in at least a handful of everyone’s videos. he makes a twitter and instantly gets thousands of followers. he tweets the most random shit at the most random times and half of them become memes. people find out he’s a professor at the college the rest of them met at and everyone looses it

kravitz is in a similar position as davenport, but he was convinced to start a channel. he mostly does stuff involving antiques because he collects them, so he does haul videos of what he bought or thrifted and videos of him restoring them as he looks up how old they were and what random shit they were used for and stuff. people make compilations of him getting off topic and going on a tangent about taako then realizing he just rambled for ten minutes and getting flustered. he also plays a handful of classical instruments and makes occasional collabs with lup + barry

despite having completely different channels they’re all friends??? people didn’t know at first but they found out through davenport and kravitz “this one guy who i think is dating taako but i’m not sure and idk his name” showing up in everyone’s videos. from then on they started collabing more often and it’s really fun to see them outside of their element. lup once almost burnt down magnus’ workshop while making a chemistry video with him. taako tried to teach kravitz how to make macaroons (keyword: tried) and kravitz talked about this new antique shop he found the whole time. barry went on and on and on about biology while gardening with merle, who tried to follow along but failed and ended up making fun of all the scientific names for plants

they call themselves the red robes after the main characters in lucretia’s novel (they’re not similar to the characters but there’s seven of them and six youtubers + one davenport)

they once did a big group collab where the twins dressed everyone up in high fashion outfits and lucretia painted a big portrait of all of them. it was very wholesome but also had a lot of lup and taako arguing over what accessory fits who and “no this person should do their hair like this!” and at one point magnus and kravitz just dipped to go play cards and talk about dogs

speaking of wholesome angus has a channel of his own which is mostly booktube with him getting halfway through a mystery novel, predicting the ending, and being 100% correct. he’s done videos with the others and is kinda associated with them but not totally, and is often lovingly referred to as the nephew to the rest of them

killian and carey don’t have a channel but are in the bg of magnus’ videos often. they were referred to as “magnus’ lesbian friends” until they got popular on instagram and became an internet power couple. johann has a small channel and a soundcloud he plays violin on and did one (1) collab with lup and it made him blow up overnight. avi has a semi-popular twitter and is mostly known as johann’s bf. sloane and hurley have a channel about drag racing/cars in general and don’t show their faces and go by the raven and ram

i was trying to think of who’d have a gaming channel and it’s 100% graham, who casually mentions that he’s friends with Pro Wrestler Jess The Beheader

lucas has a science focused channel similar to barry’s where he tries to be educational and ends up being annoying/kind of wrong about it. barry has a mini series called “lucas miller is a bitch here’s why” and it’s him disproving lucas’ theories with a deadpan expression and generally being better at science than him

remember when i said taako and lup have influencer energy despite being nice? yeah, lydia and edward are like that but they’re actually annoying. they have a popular makeup/fashion channel and lup and taako have gotten into slight drama with them over how the wonderland twins have been rude to them and the how the red robe twins are “jealous.” the internet is divided over who likes which pair of twins better

lup learns that greg fucking grimauldis (who the twins knew in high school) has a popular twitter/insta platform and tweets the “i am to collect” speech out of nowhere from everyone’s pov. taako tweets the video he took of him telling her and her immediately going “no fucking way that ASSHOLE is getting away with what he did to me” and opening twitter. it becomes a meme and he pays her back and changes his social media handles to “gregfuckinggrimauldis”

i can’t think of anything else because i don’t know enough about youtube but yeah.
