Your mother already warned you and your friends about a certain gangster group in BGC who's always wandering the streets at night and cause trouble. You were curious about this certain group because their faces haven't been exposed to the television due to the reason that the police never once catch one member of the group.

"Uy pre mag gagabi na ano na? Di pa ba tayo uuwi?" (Bro, the sun is already setting, should we go home now?) Your friend F/N asked worriedly about you. "Yeah, your mother already texts me that we should go home now" Your other friend replied. You stopped your tracks as you turn your head to them with an excited expression painted on your face. Your friends stared at you in disbelief. Meanwhile the man remained silent, puffing the air from his cigarette as his eyes were fixated on you. His eyes weren't the usual that you often see everyday. You find yourself drowning into his beautiful ocean eyes. Your friend looks at you in confusion and she quickly glanced behind her as she was absolutely starstruck by his appearance. "You, what's your name" "Putangina..." Your other friend hang her mouth open as she glanced to you and at the man who was still staring intently at you. "Y/N L/N po..." "Y/N...Did you come here often? Well, now you should..." The man sounds too demanding which makes you feel a little irritated. "Huh? Bakit sino ka ba?" (Huh? Who do you think you are?) The man chuckles as he waved his cigarette. He tilted his head on his head as he points the cigarette to you. STMPD Recommends Bubblegum Crisis Fanfiction: The Works of Jeanne Hedge

Ho ho ho ho ho, it's time to bring out an easy recommendation, or rather a series of recommendations, one I'm honestly surprised I haven't done before.

I mean, come on. It's Jeanne Hedge, baby. She didn't write much longer stuff compared to Innpchan or Ben Hutchins, but she wrote really good, really focused stuff. Moreover, the record of the sheer number of 90's-era fic writers who reference her suggest that she was the Carrie Fisher of alt.fan.bgcrisis, a real script doctor for everyone. Whatta character. Pity she died from pneumonia in 2020 - I would have loved to invite her to the more modern corners of BGC fandom, like the subreddit and the discord. Learn from the old masters, yeah? Yeah.

So: Hedge. Sysop of a CompuServe anime and manga forum from 1985 to 2005. Mod for the old Fanfiction Mailing List. Moderator for the fanfiction panel at Anime Central (ACEN) from 2001-2006. In other words, a superfan from a time when Crunchyroll was a ripping site, Funimation wasn't Sony's pawn, when anime was an eccentricity among eccentricities on the old 'World Wide Web'. Incredible, no?

Oh, yeah, and she was a pretty good writer, too! Her writing style isn't particularly fancy, and her topics are usually more light-hearted explorations of the series save for two instances. We'll go through the short stuff first, then the two biggies.

Dear Mom: Not even two thousand words, a gag where some gaijin girl is living in an office building across the way from the LADYS633 and is navigating dealing with the locals while hunting for an apartment. The punchline is that it takes place between OVA 8 and Crash, so of course she sees the Knight Wing launch from the building, and when she brings it up at the LADYS big reopening party, Sylia is all 'whatever are you talking about' and promptly makes sure this woman gets an apartment across the city. "You'd almost think they couldn't wait to get me away from here!" is what's said in the last bit, which is funny as hell. Written, apparently, on a dare.

We Just Want To Help You: Jeanne is transported to what appears to be the BGC Universe, but is, in fact, not. Her attempts to convince Sylia otherwise don't go well. Another one-note gag, but in my mind not as funny as the other one.

Spin Cycle: Linna's power goes out, she needs to do some laundry, goes to a laundromat with a laundry-dispensary Boomer, said Boomer goes rampant and starts terrorizing people, Linna must evade the Boomer and help other customers. Short, silly, charming, and does a nice job of outlining the wider world of Megatokyo, the normalcy of life in the world's mightiest megacity, where clothes still need to be cleaned.

10 Questions: This is a weird one, since it's one of Priss's great-grandchildren asking her about an interview with her she found in the attic. Ten easy questions about what happened to Priss in her public life - the Reps broke up, she started a new band, she started a record company that eventually got to sign Vision, she lost both her legs during the last great Boomer Rampage - hold on, wait, what the fuck?

Yeah, despite Hedge saying in an afterword that she wanted this to be the fic where Priss got to have nice things, she still loses her legs, Linna, and Sylia. The last quarter of the fic, in fact, is her just musing about all the different choices she could have made when Sylia pulled her over back during the fateful night played out in Asu E Touchdown... and I think it's implied Sylia, in the end, walked into GENOM Tower with a suitcase nuke. So... happiness? Even then, it's an elusive thing...

Okay, that's the small stuff. The warmup. Now for the big 'uns.

Into The Shadows: Probably Hedge's most famous work, 19K words detailing, from multiple perspectives, the origins of the Knight Sabers, from Dr. Raven talking Sylia into recruiting other members, to those other members being recruited, and so on. It was cowritten with Andy Skuse of Raven's Garage, which... is kind of a detriment to its quality? I've been rereading Skuse's own multichapter epic, Bubblegum Cross, and it's Not Very Good. I'll probably review it soon.

Anyway, it's part mess of flashbacks, part training montage, part this, that, and the other. Each chapter is fairly short - shorter than I would have written, in all honesty - but there's a good bit where Nene is cool with her EW, where even Linna is scared for a short bit, where Priss is as violent and unhinged as you'd expect her to be. The characterization is really on point here, I think, at least for a certain rendering of the Sabers in their early days. I quite like this one.

True Love: Priss can't catch a break, can she? In canon or in fanon. I mean, holy shit, this fuckin' piece. It's good, but... damn.

It's mostly, Priss's story, a bridge between Crisis and Crash in the darkest sense. See, she's trying to finally get the Reps signed, right? Reasonable, even if the sleazy-producer cliche is coming into play even before Priss's stint at idoldom in Crash. It's not going well. She gets forced into a bad contract by 'Oomori-san' (geddit?) someone's stalking her - and then said stalker shoots her in the throat. Her voice is gone (explaining the change in voice to Ryoko Tachikawa in Crash), she's in protective custody, and... ugh. Look, I don't want to go any further, because probably the best way to describe this fic is a) disturbing (stalkers are creepy people!) and b) depressing (Everyone's mental state gets seriously altered by what's going on here). The other part of the bridge from Crash is that Nene kills said stalker, just picks him up in her Motoslave and drops him into the canyons, and that's kind of the lead-in to her being much more aggressive in Crash as well.

I don't want to spoil more, because this is a 'darkfic' in the best way, a deeply, perfectly uncomfortable way. It's the way that best shows what Hedge was capable of as a writer, and why her death was a tragedy in the truest sense. Read any or all of these, because they're all excellent.

Chronicles: The Logos

For the past few years, I have been aiding in writing a Neon Genesis Evangelion MST3K-style react fic series by my buddy @bgc-592.

It's called Chronicles and - aside from being a spin-off of Strypgia's much loved fanfic Advice and Trust - covers all manner of works whilst also having what's become a very complex weave of ongoing plot-threads.

What I've also been doing, however, is creating logos for each entry in the series, usually inspired by the work its covering.

And I've decided I'm going to properly showcase the logos I've made so far.

Church’s player tries and fails to get FIRST (amazingly in-character cringefail narcissistic boyfailure moment, I’m so proud of her). In an act of uncharacteristic magnanimity and faith in someone else to make any decisions, Church also immediately snapvotes that rookie Caboose for blue team captain. How sweet! I’m sure this will set the stage for a completely bloodless and totally-fucking-hinged friendship between them 🥰

Sheila’s trying to kill Sarge (love the spirit but this is not a PvP-enabled day, girlboss) and also campaigning for herself straight out the gate.

The idea of Sheila’s player potentially deciding resolution of vote ties apparently triggers an instinctive, subconscious-canon-trauma-memories fear in Tucker’s player of Sheila having power over who lives and who dies

Fortunately (?) for blue team, Sheila’s just here to fuck around, have a good time, and get sloshed on whiteclaws (presumably poured down her fuel port by Caboose and Lopez?)

Yo I saw your Bubblegum Crisis fanart a week ago and I thought they were really cool! (yes I know they are old but whatever)

I'm not sure if you still are a fan of the series but I've got a question:

Hypothetically speaking , if BGC was going to release today as say a remake/soft reboot- 12 episodes ideally what would you add or change? (Outside of some obvious things like flashing lights)

Personally I'd make Leon a tad more likeable and give each Knight Saber a bit more development.

I would give the suits ankles.

Define the Sabers' weaponry and equipment a little more rigidly, so that combat sequences can follow a little more internal logic than their current "we've got newer upgraded suits that can punch harder than your lasers can lase" or whatever.

I would make the suits a little bulkier to allow space for internal machinery and enough... Oh heck I won't keep going on about the suits. You saw the fanart so you already know the attributes of my opinions on such matters.

Uhhhh get rid of the topless scenes; for Various Reasons I'm not a big fan of fanservice in general.

Make Mackie and Linna actual characters, with character traits and character arcs and characteristics and stuff. One of the only good things the 2040 reboot did was make Linna a sort of POV character as the only 'normal one.' I thought that worked really well. In the fanfic I wrote, that's how I use her. And Mackie... His big sister is a closeted psychopath with the fortune and propensity to fund a private army, frequently makes him drive through exploding factories in the dead of night, and in the morning he has to... Go to school? Do his friends just think he spends all his time on some obsessive hobby, so when they come over he has to pretend to be some kind of expert in building model trains just to keep up appearances? Do the Sabers go on a mission only to discover they can't fly, because Mackie had hockey practice and forgot to fuel the thermal rockets? Is Sylia on the PTA??? This is comedy gold.

As far as animation style goes, the original nailed it in terms of what I want and what I like. Yeah it would be cheaper today to CGI it, but that sounds worse to me for reasons. And yeah I know how much difficulty and baggage is added to art by costly development, but I want to have my cake and also to eat it. Pwease.

The show is usually fairly good about this next one, but I'll say it because a lot of modern stories fail at it: keep the plot small-scale. The show kind of lost me when they exploded all the Genome buildings around the planet, and the reboot REALLY lost the plot. Like, the protaganists are just one team, they should fight one-team sized threats. Just like Spiderman shouldn't face anyone bigger/badder than Doc Ock, the Sabers shouldn't ever deal with anything bigger than "somebody stole the codes to a military satellite." The codes to a military satellite is big stakes for them. That's a big deal. Their regular fair should be bagging/tagging/pacifying rampant androids or sabotaging corporate mischief. There's tons of ground to explore there. Maybe they can go biggish for a finale. Maybe. If they behave and are good. As a treat.

I like that the original was very episodic. Every episode can stand on its own as a little movie. I like that.

Sylia should appear to testify in court wearing full armor with a darth vader voice synthesizer. Nothing would be funnier than this. The show should be a little funny. It should be a little campy. The cast are all funny people with strong personalities. They should be allowed to be funny.

I disagree that Leon is currently unlikable, I think he's great. Obviously, he's a huge simp and a total tool, but he has tons of good aspects as well, and is an all-around swell dude if he weren't ever exposed to w o m e n. IMO, being a perfectly moral star child isn't what makes a good character, and if he has flaws that's opportunity for growth. But I concede that he does need to do more in the plot though. I'd give him an arc, some development or at least resolution to him and Priss, maybe he figures out Nene's secret ID and acts as their man on the inside, maybe he shows up with the calvary, maybe he's actual useful for once in his life, IDK.

Wild west episode.

Show boomers active in everyday life, I guess. We hear a lot about how useful they are in industry, but all we ever see are state-of-the-art combat models that look all scary, or weird one-offs like illegal vampire hookers. There are innumerable directions you could take domestic androids .

There's probably more I could say, but it's 2 in the morning and I'm pretty much just procedurally generating ideas like an LLM at this point. I still do like this show a lot, though maybe not as much as I once did.

NCIA Agent Part 4/ Trese fanfic!

As the alarm was going on. A bunch of agents went to the main entrance of the facility. The door exploded and Crispin, Basilio, Hank, Maliksi, and, the Wind Girls. The agents are trained to realistically miss-fire and make it seem like they just can't hit the subject. We pretended to retreat but we were actually leading them towards the enclosure we were supposed to trap them In.

"This seems too easy!"

Crispin says as he blows up a bunch of security robots.

"something isn't right!"

Hanks says as he fires his shotgun to one of the agents in armoured uniform.

"Well Hank, you realised that too late!"

I immediately shut the enclosure by pressing a button.

They tried to use their powers and strengths but this facility was engineered to endure supernatural forces.

I went to the mic and started to talk to them to calm down.

"mic check 1,2... Uhh... Ok, so guys, sorry for the harsh approach. I am agent (Y/N)"

I calmly said on the microphone.

"Why are you keeping us in here!"

A tikbalang friand of theirs asked.

"we need your help! To solve this case! This is a classified order from the Malacañang!"

They all looked at each other.

"I will now open the door but promise, you wont attack us or we'll keep you here for an hour!"

I said trying to convince them not to fight me.

"Ok! Fine whatever!"

Crispin said.

After opening the door, I slowly led them to a briefing room. They gasp at the ton of technology inside.

"Sit down"

I said pointing at the chairs.

"Why are you here? Well its because the NCIA needs you for a special operation. It is to stop this worldwide terrorist organisation that is called S.P.L.G or the Supernatural Paranormal Liberation Group. They believe that humans discriminate the Supernatural so they are planning to eliminate human existence."

They all gasp in awe when I turned the hologram on.

"These here, are the latest attacks performed by the group."

I enlarged a few videos.

"They raided and performed a shooting at the Beijing Airport and left the corpse of a Filipino agent to increase tensions between China and the Philippines. They also bombed a train station In Moscow with a bomb made with supernatural materials which is only used by the American government to increase tensions once again. Amd many more. Fortunately they have all been resolved by the governments around the globe or else the third world war would've happened by now. The main concern is that they are now stealing a certain element called "obrian" which can make non-supernatural organisms pass away."

"Woah!!! Thats nothing in our field!! You solve that cause you're the"professionals"!"

Alex got mad at me.

"ok, im sorry for how I implied it, but we really need more supernaturals in this team!"

"there are more Kapre's just there at Luneta! More tikbalangs at BGC and Duwendes at Manila! Why us?!"

"We need skillful ones and, this is my only chance to meet our remaining family!"

My Sister replied.

I sighed to explain.

"i was Family at your mothers side and my mothers work wasnt accepted in the clan of babaylans, so the NCIA recriuted her. She told me to see you once im grown up and one day the world will need you!"

"that was fast... But- but... My parents said nothing!"

"They tried not to mention anything about my mother because they thought technology was against the rules of the supernatural world!"

"ok we will start our worl tomorrow at Cebu!"

"damn! First day we travel?!"

Basilio asked in excitement.

i don’t think we give simmons enough credit for his more creative abilities tbh. I think out of all the bgc he is canonically one of the most creative members, these r just off the top of my head but:

- he’s a writer, in the original captains’ logs (not the machinimated ones, the original text based ones) we can see the title of some of his fanfic when grif starts snooping through his files, and i’m pretty sure it’s also been mentioned in a few psas that he frequently writes fanfic (ik this doesn’t inherently make him a Good writer but he still has the drive and motivation to write a full fic, something that i definitely don’t have)

- building off of that, the rvb fan guide book reveals that simmons has made several text-based storytelling games, highlighting both his writing skills, and abilities to code. and considering the rest of his technical prowess, is it too far to assume that he’s capable of coding regular video games too?

- especially games that have a soundtrack, that’s right, our man is also musically inclined. epsilon revealed that simmons can play the banjo and grif revealed that he can play enough instruments to not make just one jazz song, but an entire album of them! this likely means he can play at least the piano, saxophone and trumpet in order to actually make something that counts as a song, but who knows, maybe he knows even more

- not 100% sure if this counts as creativity but he’s also a relatively decent gardener! during the days shipwrecked on chorus, and in the season 14 get bent episode, simmons has personal gardens that he tends to, meaning he also has at least some affinity for plants and garden layouts/presentation

STMPD Recommends Bubblegum Crisis Fanfiction: DeadboltDon's Silent Rift

You know how last year, I lost my mind over Most of The Way To The Moon? Reader, I thought that such perfect Bubblegum Crisis fanfiction could never be written in our fallen day and age, that the really good shit was all in the nineties and the aughts, never to return in this decade. That I would have to be a lone soldier writing this stuff. I was wrong, suffice to say.

And now, I have been proven wrong thrice. Both by this fanfiction, and then by CodyLabs' Once Upon A Midnight Launch. As I begin the process of spinning up a new, better fanfiction project, this fact fills me with boundless joy, especially because it gives me something to review that isn't old or weird or horny or Yours Truly 2032.

And it came out of nowhere, too! Only a week old as of the time of writing, and from a user who I knew liked BGC on reddit, DeadboltDon just dropped this puppy, all 50K words or so of it, on us like that. I just found it, just binge-read it, and I am going to tell you, right now, it's time for you to read it too.

Okay, so here's the setup: Megatokyo is a city whose outer districts are absolutely fucking overrun with trash. Waste from electronics, vehicles, Boomers. Even if those wastelands are postapocalyptic nightmares where only the insane and Moorlockish live, that's still a whole lot of waste, a whole lot of things that are, well... one character in this fic calls it 'ungarbage'.

The main cast are scavengers - an ex ADP-jockey, an old guy, an ex-Outrider... and Lou. Yeah. Lou. The Sexaroid we all thought died in Moonlight Rambler. Weird, huh?

Well, things start creepy, that's for sure, when the team brings in the arm off a Knight Saber hardsuit, and then decide to bring it back, because the Sabers to them are living legends, nightmares who'll happily kill them to retrieve said piece. And the Sabers do show up. Sort of. Black hardsuits with silent flechette-throwing crossbows, something that we know aren't the Sabers, can't be, but who are they, then?

Well, Lou and company wind up in ADP custody, only for the Sabers to break them out in an unhinged rampage through the upper parts of the HQ, where Jeena Malso is an absolute fucking unit, and then a horror-movie like scrabble through vaults loaded with dead Boomers coming to life. Things get... dicey. Not to spoil anything, but the people behind the black hardsuits are a) unexpected villains and b) fucking terrifying because of that. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time for the final fight, I'll say that much.

Oh, and there are references! The WKUK's Sex Robot, various types of power armor stuck in the ADP's prototype division (eg. the Kerberos Panzer Cop suit), and a bunch of quotes from an UrbEx handbook. They're welcome. They energize the fic even more than it already crackles with violent life.

I wish I had more to say about this fic, beyond how much you should go and read it right this instant. Instead, I'll say this much: I think we're in the middle of a minor paradigm shift for Bubblegum Crisis fanfiction. My own work, Cody's work, and so on. I might be the guy who keeps coming back to this fandom, maybe most people are writing one-offs, but the fact that a superfan like myself can expect quality work like this as a baseline for BGC fanfic makes me think the future's bright... especially since I know of more than a few people who are working on new fics as we speak.

I say this with the utmost love: If you have a Story Of The Knight Sabers you want to bring to the internet, don't hold back. Give us everything you've got. Now is the time to rise together, to fill up the silent rift with light and noise.

its such prevalent and pervasive fanon i didn’t even realize i cant actually remember a time in canon (post blue team adoption) where wash tries to reject the BGC’s help. he’s appreciative of it, sure, but i cant remember him actually arguing he doesn’t deserve it and that they shouldn’t help him like he does in fanfic
