Big Island Vampire be like "I vill Big Island Suck your Big Island Blood!"
#I just went to the Big Island Cinema and saw Sinners.#My sister had been asking me to find something else to obsess over other than OUR LORD BIM.#While this movie is excellent and undeniably one of the Big Island Best films I've ever seen (aside from League of Extraordinary Gentlemen)#It still pales in comparison to Big Island Mike and his ever present glory and love.#But Sammie sure did like those flavors in that one seen. So did Michael B. Jordan's character that wore red.#bimism

✂ ┈and i know now that i'm so down; your lipstick stain is a work of art. (i got your name tattooed in an arrowheart.)┈

⚲ sophomore year, east wing dorm hall. earlier.
the basketball team, for as long as they remembered, had called you mike. entirely based off the joke that you were the 'team mvp', since you always squeezed them in for a cheap haircut right before a date or a big game. mike was from michael jordan, basically saying you were their star player.
charlie missed that memo. in fact, he threw all the memos the minute he saw you. even though it was his second year at university, his teammates still bitched about how he "hadn't got a haircut from ol' mike yet" or how he "needed a touch up". it was relenting; every single practice it was somehow brought up.
clearly, he was a damn fool for thinking that mike was a male hairdresser, and an average one at that. he walked into a dorm on the third floor, absolutely swamped with people in basketball jerseys. well, at least he was in the right place, right? the right place being the inaugural homecoming party for the team.
charlie wandered around aimlessly, trying to find one of his teammates he could awkwardly stick next to for the party. but all of them were posted up with a girl, a lazy arm slung around her shoulder or waist and slurring their words already. sheesh.
as he backed up to give his teammate brody a wide berth (him and that random girl were getting hot and heavy for a public space), he bumped into someone. "ohmygosh! sorry about that, are you okay—" he whipped his head around to see a girl.
you were a blur of long, wavy brunette hair and wearing a black radio silence t-shirt, a pair of baggy jeans tied with a studded belt than hung low on your hips and black converse, plus some eye-catching silver jewelry. he gulped, his cheeks flushing the second he made eye contact with you. liking your outfit, he gave it one more appreciative glance before locking his nervous eyes onto your pretty face.
"don't sweat it," you assured him, smiling. "you new here? never seen you before."
charlie looked at you and gaped. when he realized that you were expecting him to answer, his mouth moved faster than his brain. "er— yeah. i'm a freshman." he blurted.
"oh? what's your major?" your interest not piqued, you swirled your drink around in a red solo cup. you'd had this conversation with seven different guys tonight already, you were not in the mood for this again.
"computer science. i know, it's kinda dorky, but i like it." he shrugged shyly, pink dusting his cheeks. "what, uhm... what about you?" you stare at him blankly until he clarifies, "your major, i mean."
it's almost as if a spark ignited in your mind. "oh! i'm an art major." he was, out of the seven, the first to ask you the question back. a low bar, for sure. "i love it, too. it's like... my passion." you started to talk animatedly, using your hands to communicate your excitedness.
you glanced back up at charlie, seeing him staring right at you with an unreadable expression. "you, uh, don't care.. do you?" you smile sheepishly, rubbing the back of your neck and feeling a little embarrassed.
his eyes widen comically. "nono! i do, i just—"
brody had found his way towards the two of you, stumbling and leaning on charlie for support, wrapping an arm around his shoulder. "dalgeish, my man!" he slurred his words, a charming grin crossing his face. "seems like you met mikey already, our mvp."
your expression is deadpan, but a smile tugs at the edge of your lips. "brody, flattering as ever." you reply sarcastically, shooting an apologetic grin towards charlie.
you were 'mike'? he wasn't expecting mike to be... a girl. and well, a pretty one at that.
brody slapped charlie on the back so hard it jolted him back into reality. "so mike, can you fix up our boy here before his big debut game? he's been killing it during preseason."
"really?"
charlie could crawl into a hole and die right now. seemed more preferable than this conversation. "uh. uh." he stammered, managing an amalgamation of noises that sounded enough like an agreement.
"i'll get you looking perfect for your big game. c'mon, dalgein, was it?" you smiled, gesturing towards the bathroom. charlie was so entranced by you that he forgot to correct you. more like he didn't have the balls to anyway, you intimidated him a little with that cool-girl aura you had, but nonetheless he followed behind you like a stray dog.
he sat on the edge of your bathtub as he watched you grab a hairtie, putting your long hair up into a messy bun. he could see the underside of your hair was dyed pink and light blonde, kind of making you look like his favorite ice cream flavor growing up, neapolitan.
"i like your hair. it's funky." he blurted before even fully realizing what he was saying, a mortified expression striking his face the second he processed what he just said.
a guffaw left your lips, instead of the noise of disgust he assumed. "that's quite the way with words you have."
"maybe i should be an english major instead," a genuine grin spread across his face, a goofy smile making his crows feet crinkle.
you lean your hip against the sink, shaking your head and chuckling. "i could never. too much sitting still."
he quipped, "my dyslexic ass could never," with a self-deprecating grin on his face, at the exact same time you quipped, "my adhd ass could never." you two burst into giggles at the realization you two made the same joke at the same time.
your hands were a little shaky, you'd only cut one or two peoples hairs before. assuming that boasting about your experience would get you more customers (it did) left out the part where you actually needed the experience. but you'd seen enough youtube videos and gotten your hair cut and dyed enough where you basically knew everything you needed to know.
charlie's hair was uneven in every angle at first, unruly and knotted in some places, though it didn't look it, but eventually you managed to tame it. it was a quick trim, nothing major, but you were determined to make it look good.
your tongue jutted out past your lips a little, which is what you always did when you were focusing intently― rather that be on cutting hair or an art final― and charlie couldn't help the thoughts invading his brain about how he wanted to kiss you stupid.
after he was done and you lead him to the mirror, a nervous yet anticipating smile on your face, he stared at his hair. and immediately seemed to light up. "woah!" he touched his face, as if he was making sure he was actually real. "i look hot."
"who said you didn't before?" you scoffed, immediately freezing as still as a wax statue. liquid courage was really something, huh? you'd regret that in the morning.
charlie's cheeks flushed an embarrassing shade of pink as he giggled shyly, pushing a freshly cut lock of hair behind his ear. he didn't reply to your comment, trying to ease your embarrassment from the brazen comment and instead kept admiring your handiwork.
after a few deafening moments of silence, he turned to you, a satisfied smile on his face. "thanks, michelangelo." he pulled out a twenty, folding it between his index and middle, holding it out for you to take expectantly.
plucking the dollar bill from his hand, you let out a confused "huh?" where did that nickname come from?
"well, that's what mike's short for, right?"
the smile on his face is too cute for you to ruin. so you lie. well, not necessarily, you just.. stretch the truth a little. "uh... yeah." an uneasy grin graces your lips. "no problem, dalgeish."
"charlie," he corrected gently.
"charlie," you repeated. rarely, and by rarely you meant never, did you do this, but your heart tugged at you to. as charlie walked back into the party, you grabbed a spare piece of paper from your coffee table and scribbled pay me by taking me out instead <3 onto the paper hastily, binding it to the $20 bill with a paperclip. yeah, all the other guys on the basketball team paid you, but taking money from charlie felt like taking it from a little kid.
smoothly, you walked by charlie, putting the note and his money back in his pocket.
it wasn't until after the game the next day, after he was changing out of his sticky uniform and into his casual clothes, about to go out with the team for a "winner's feast" (he had made the game-winning shot in the last ten seconds, and they insisted this was a moment that needed to be celebrated), he found it.
as he shimmied into his jeans, he felt around for his keys and found the crumpled up dollar with the note attached.
he smiled, seeing the name signed at the bottom.
your michelangelo. <3

From the "Creed" series to "Sinners", it appears that Warner Bros. knows how to treat Coogler and his muse Michael B. Jordan better than other big companies, like say Disney, that stifle Coogler from dropping captivating original work such as "Sinners". Initially I walked out of the film due to the first scene being one of sharecropping and a church, but then I found myself returning after the rave reviews and I was not disappointed. The film is an excellent study on the U.S. black struggle and what happens when something built FBA gets co-opted by other groups that promise unity but only do so at the expense of leaving FBA's in the guillotine. Though I did not like the transitions between scenes, effects wise I did enjoy the John Woo meets Tom Sevini bleedouts and Jayme Lawson holding a shotgun running off vampires is an image I wont be soon to forget. I am glad I did not allow U.S. history to get in the way of my viewing of "Sinners". I can say that B. Jordan is the best actor I have ever seen play split roles on one screen, and I saw a vet like DeNiro attempt to do the same this same year in "Alto Knights". I'm a 2000's kid - Mike Myers and Heath Ledger cannot hold a candle to B. Jordan's work as The Twins in "Sinners". B. Jordan deserves his praise and I give credit to Coogler for his script including rich FBA history as well as Euro-American history. There are a myriad of mannerisms and colliqual conversations and terminology that could only land with an FBA audience and with that, I believe Coogler delivered. The Anti-Christendom / Anti-Jesuit stance that Coogler takes throughout his script is also very powerful and courageous. But, if the controversial rumors are true that Jonathan Majors was removed from this film, that forced B. Jordan to take up double-duty, then that, as well as the decision to not recast Chadwick Boseman in "Black Panther" has not gotten Coogler out of the dog house for me. B. Jordan was irreplacable. Lawson irreplacable. Hell, Ludwig Goransson with the metal asesthetics for all those vamped out scenes, irreplacable. But I believe that a more seasoned director could have handled Coogler's script better than himself.
At least Coogler doesn't suffer from James Cameron or Ridley Scott's embarassingly long runtimes whenever they are allowed too much creative control, but in a film that showcases the enduring and hardworking nature engrained in FBA culture, Coogler has been found to not be able to carry the weight of a couple crowns while his star muse in B. Jordan has shown he can excel at that task and maybe carry a couple more.

Okay fine actual proper episode breakdown of lucky day.
I was sure the 2007 thing was gonna be a whole episode and am kinda frustrated that we didn't get that. Like come on, we could have done something cool like Rememberence there
The flashback to Ruby travelling with the Doctor was neat. I appreciate them putting a definite place in the season for that.
But on the other hand... THIS IS BELINDA'S SEASON OTHERDAMNIT I want to see Belinda the character who I like is Belinda can we actually get something with Belinda I want Belinda
I had a moment of wondering if we were gonna get autons. When are they bringing back the autons!
Look I get that the Redacted crew wouldn't have worked for this episode, but given how we opened, I started ranting at the tv about this and then had to explain to the non-EU fan I was watching with what Redacted was.
ooooooh romance i don't care actually
I like how Lousie Miller (I'm sorry her name is too close to Lucie Miller to not be funny to me still) has integrated with Ruby's family. It's a nice touch.
I really like how the Shreek functions in the story, from a biological and logistical perspective
I mean I'm looking for this at this point, but... a Ruby-centric episode that has a heavy political focus and a crucial story beat at a rural pub? This still feels like a rehash of last season
I really like Kate's characterization and focus. I will say that. Sad we didn't get any Mel, tho.
If Ibraham and Kate have an explicit romantic anything tho I will kill someone. Kate would not date her subordinate.
Okay I think they put enough emotion and whatever into the scenes to make it work, but what actually was Conrads plan here? Like, why did what he did make UNIT look bad? They responded to a potential threat like it was a potential threat. If you want to go at them for being overzealous and not having civilian oversight, the episode would still work and make a lot more sense. But accusing them of lying about aliens... like I can kinda see that I guess connecting into the point I made above, but it's still weird and indirect and I feel like I'm making the connection instead of the episode. How does you faking aliens make it look like UNIT was faking aliens?
I was suspicious of Jordan the moment he was introduced. Like if he's not gonna be something, why introduce him? If you're gonna do the Mike Yates thing do it with someone we've already seen.
I did like the bit where Conrad had applied to UNIT but Kate had forgotten about that. Felt very real.
Was nice to see Shirley. They didn't give her a ton to do, but I still appreciated her being there.
Kate unleashing the Shreek on Conrad... it, well. It makes sense for her character to me, but I think that's because I've seen an underhanded side to her that is mostly Big Finish's creation. Curious about how people who haven't listened to Big Finish UNIT took that.
THAT BEING SAID, Kate releasing a fucking monster on anyone should not have gone down well with the public.
The speech from the Doctor at the end... well, I liked him learning about Belinda through Conrad. It was a nice tie-up of that. That being said, how did he learn about Conrad? Like seriously, when did that happen? I don't feel like that one is gonna get an answer.
Ugh. Okay. Mrs. Flood. She worked better when she wasn't showing up every episode. Also this implies Conrad will show up later, which... like... he's so tailored to this episode that I don't see him working well outside of it.
Yeah I don't think I liked this. I can see what the episode was trying to do, but it shot itself in the foot by making UNIT as sympathetic as they did. ALSO WHY IS BELINDA BASICALLY NOT IN THIS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. I WANT BELINDA.

that was us part five
aka tease tidbit tuesday
but once again it is a full part and ah, thanks to @leashybebes for saying that she's kind of lowkey obsessed with this, because so am i.
who decided the first wedding anniversary gift should be paper? what do you even get for that?
it's paper or clocks, depending on the list you look at.
clocks are better?
depends. if you think of them as keeping track of all the time you've spent together, yeah.
god, you're such a romantic.
abby spends the rest of the day sending photos of watches to tommy. they immediately nix any watches that are skinny or square; abby's never seen sam wear one and they all look sort of… industrial. she bets it's exactly the type of watch that his firm would give out for the big anniversaries.
tommy vetoes a few companies because they're ripping off their designs from someone else. when abby asks when he got into watches, he tells her that jordan has a collection.
that's interesting. tommy had dropped jordan's name a few months ago, mentioning that he'd met a guy at the bar and they'd been on a few dates, but not much since. she's assumed it was going well because there was no text about them breaking up, and she and sal haven't been recruited for another bachelor style grindr lineup, but it's nice to know it didn't just fizzle out after a few dates.
now that she's got a watch picked out, it's time for her to do a little digging on tommy's new beau. even sal has been tight lipped, which has meant problems in the past — mike, for one, but there was also colin — though, to be fair, a lot more had been wrong with colin than just the fact that he didn't like tommy's best friend. in the list of crazy exes, colin was definitely at the top.
what's sal think of jordan?
they get along, abby, relax.
how well?
they're at the race track together right now, actually.
sal's into horses?
no, they're both into go karts.
aren't those for kids?
go karts, not bumper cars. they can still go pretty fast.
oh brother.
yep. gina and i are going to have dinner while they're out.
say hi to gina for me! it's been a while.
she says hi, and you still need to tell her what you thought of the time traveller's wife.
talk to you later, tommy!
do you two think eight months is too soon to move in together?
tommy, no, that's a reasonable amount of time.
it's kind of slow, actually.
sal, you asked gina to move in three months after meeting her.
we never officially lived together but sam asked me a few weeks after our six month anniversary.
aside from her questionable taste in supernatural movies, haven't regretted it once.
you watch twilight every year on her birthday.
sal, that's adorable. tommy, if you want to ask jordan to move in, you should.
she watches them, i read. and yeah, you should ask him. i think you have a good shot at landing the guy.
i hate you.
what happened?
abby, two days ago i walked in on those two in the middle of — well, let's just say it wasn't a pg rated movie.
don't exaggerate, sal. besides, you were the one who came in without knocking.
tommy! don't you lock your door?
i have a key. which i am debating returning.
that'll teach you to wait for someone to come to the door.
he's got a point, sal.
i'm leaving you weirdos now. gina and i have plans.
chicken shit!
i have to run too tommy, i've got to pick the girls up from the barn. just ask him! it'll be great.
thanks, abby. no thanks to you, sal.
jordan's out.
sal's text comes in just before a flurry from tommy, and abby scrolls through them curiously. ah, home renovation questions. once they'd started talking again — really talking, not the quick catch ups at bar nights — tommy had told her that most of the changes he'd made to the house had been done between relationships. she wonders if he's clocked why he does it that way, but she is very much not a therapist. she's also not going to get into that with her ex-fiancé.
he wants to know if she thinks a pale grey could work in the downstairs guest room (study, she'd suggested when he bought the place, even though neither of them had had an office job) or if it would clash with the yellow she'd picked for the living room. abby checks the time and gets him on a video call, making him walk her around the house. they decide that the grey will work, and abby reminds tommy again that he's been meaning to get rid of the tile and wallpaper combination in the laundry room.
sal is busy sending abby a rundown of everything that's happened in the last twenty eight hours. it's — a lot. tommy and jordan had gone out to dinner, some little indian spot that was jordan's favourite, and right before tommy could ask jordan to move in, jordan had told him that he'd gotten a promotion that meant he'd have to move to sacramento.
they'd argued — mostly about the fact that jordan hadn't mentioned a move and a promotion was a possibility, but also about the fact that jordan had suggested, once tommy said that he'd wanted him to move in, that tommy come to sacramento instead. tommy had asked if jordan expected him to give up his seniority in the fire department, his house, to follow jordan to sacramento, and jordan had said that he'd probably be moving again in a few years so it wasn't as if it was permanent —
and tommy had come home single after dinner instead of planning a day for jordan to move in.
i mean, it's not like i can blame him for taking the promotion, tommy texts later, when abby manages to get him talking about it. i knew his job was important to him. we just never talked about what that would mean. he didn't even talk to me first. not that he had to, but—
it would have been nice to have been asked.
if i'd known he was approaching la as an expiry date, i wouldn't have hoped for so much in the relationship.
that's just the kind of guy you are, tommy. one day someone is going to want that as much as you do.
yeah, sure. any chance you and sam want a platonic third?
i need someone to help me with the girls' show tack in two weeks, but we're good. besides, since you don't want to move, you should really ask sal and gina that.

My thoughts on the news about The Long Walk's film adaption
I have very little faith that The Long Walk will be a good adaption but maybe I'll be wrong! I can dream, and I've been wrong before. Here are my thoughts on the casting announcements and set pictures.
Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson are the leads, according to Deadline, which means they're presumably Garraty and McVries. Jonsson seems like a good actor but an awful fit for either character, and with Hoffman (presumably Garraty) it comes down to how good an actor he is, I guess, because I can see it working if I squint but I haven't seen anything from Hoffman to suggest he can do Garraty. And I reaaaaally doubt he could do McVries. McVries has a bite to him.
Joshua Odjick is Native American so he's presumably Joe or Mike (not to say that a different character couldn't theoretically be Native American in the adaption, but it's key to Joe and Mike that none of the other Walkers understand their culture at all, and only Baker defends their parents). It's odd that either of those two would have a prominent enough role to be cast already, so I wonder if either one of their roles is beefed up, or if Mike and Scramm will be a composite character and Joe won't feature at all. Alternatively, Odjick isn't playing a Native American character (or he is but Mike and Joe are adapted out), in which case I'd guess Parker.
Roman Griffin Davis is someone I've only ever seen in Jojo Rabbit so I don't know how much range he has. I think he'd fit best as Barkovitch but I wouldn't be surprised if he's been cast as Baker or Olson.
Charlie Plummer is Stebbins. I say this almost entirely because he's a long-haired blonde. If McVries is black then book descriptions (and characterizations, let's be honest, you can't make McVries a black kid in the 70s and keep his character the same) are thrown out the door already, but google Charlie Plummer and tell me he's not been cast as Stebbins. Also, take a look at this.
Ben Wang is Asian American and there are no explicitly Asian American characters, so we've gotta guess this one purely on Vibes (Olson and Barkovitch could both be canonically Asian American, but Barkovitch is openly racist, so). From Wang's YouTube channel and some clips of Chinese Born American I found, he's a nice and playful guy (hmu Ben let's get a lemonade, also tell me who you're playing), so I'd assume Baker or Olson or Abraham because they fit that the closest, I guess? But this is unfortunately a flawed way of guessing because actors playing lunatics are sometimes normal people in real life, walking among us, going almost undetected.
Tut Nyuot's a young, sweet-looking kid. I'd assume Percy? Again, weird to cast Percy already because he doesn't even have any lines in the book, but I can't imagine Nyuout playing a character who's supposed to be the same age as Charlie Plummer's character. Maybe he's unexpectedly good at playing deranged assholes like Barkovitch? We'll see.
For Garrett Wareing I'd say Olson, looking through clips and interviews.
Jordan Gonzalez gives me no strong impression. Sorry, Jordan. Feel free to give me a stronger one over lemonade (and tell me who you're playing). If I'm held at gunpoint then I'll say Abraham.
Mark Hamill is presumably playing the Major. He's absolutely not who I would have picked because he overflows with character and I always pictured the Major as a stoic, empty Big Brother type figure, whose moments of charisma and friendliness were obviously just an act. And I guess Hamill could play that, but I think the Major will more likely have a lot more personality and vim and vigor in the movie, if Hamill was cast - he's easily the biggest draw in the cast. Not necessarily a bad way to portray the Major, but easier to mess up. We'll wait and see.
Judy Greer as presumably Mrs. Garraty will presumably be fine.
Set photos look promising, aesthetically. No half-track, though. And there's a tank. Why is there a tank?
There's a Deadline article suggesting that there are only 50 kids and the pace limit is 3mph. But there's also an article suggesting it's still 100 kids so it might be a mistake? If it's 50 kids then that's presumably done for practicality but it's a bad change, the number will either get too low too fast or it'll drop too slowly (and also no 47 and 61 which would be weird but that's not significant). 3mph isn't necessarily bad, it's more feasible, but it does mean the "first into Massachusetts in seventeen years" can't happen. Maybe they'll make New Hampshire the record instead.
i want lemonade
Reblog with your thoughts! We've got news, people, and I'm sure someone somewhere is more excited about that than I am. Let's get some discussion going on in here.

Sebastian Murdock at HuffPost:
A new budget proposal by Republican lawmakers in Indiana would see funding cut to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which puts books into the hands of thousands of kids across the state — but the country star is trying to get them to reconsider. “We are hopeful that Governor [Mike] Braun and the Indiana Legislature will continue this vital investment by restoring the state’s funding match for local Imagination Library programs,“ Parton’s rep said in a statement to the Daily Beast on Tuesday. ”The beauty of the Imagination Library is that it unites us all — regardless of politics — because every child deserves the chance to dream big and succeed.” The program, which was started by the country music superstar and philanthropist in 1995, puts free books into the hands of millions of kids across the country each month. In Indiana alone, more than 15,000 kids under the age of 5 receive free books from the program, the South Bend Tribune reported. But a new biennial budget proposal authored by state Rep. Jeffrey Thompson (R) and co-authored by Republican Reps. Greg Porter, Jack Jordan and Craig Snow, would see funding for the literacy program gutted.
Last year, the state spent $2.5 million on the program, and the Indiana State Library requested $4 million to expand the program this year. Instead, Braun’s recommendation is to stop funding the program entirely. The state’s usual match of 50% funding was slashed to zero in the new budget proposal. (The charity group United Way helps finance the other 50%, according to the Tribune.)
Singer Dolly Parton urges Gov. Mike Braun (R) and Republicans in Indiana to not eliminate her Imagination Library program for kids.
