You’re going to wish you were dead, instead.
Part 4 of T is for Trauma - The Series
Supercorp, Kara Danvers x Daughter!Reader, Lena Luthor x Daughter!Reader
Word count: 2370.
Warnings: kidnapping. Injuries. Next level angst.
Previously on the series – part 1, part 2, part 3
You open your eyes when someone kicks your stomach twice. You can’t control the vomit that comes right after, when your body finally understands that you’re up.
“Gross! Boss! The child threw up on my feet.” He walks away from you.
You want to appreciate that fact that you just did something to one of them, but everything hurts so much, like your skin is being peeled off of your body, that right now your only wish is that you could just die already so you don’t have to feel this unbearable pain anymore. Never in your worst nightmares, you’ve imagined you could feel so much pain you would wish you were dead instead.
“Stupid shit doesn’t die of over-exposure. It’s been hours! Maybe we should just shoot her, so she can bleed out to death.” One of them says and you pray they’re being serious.
“Please.” You plead. “End this.”
The boss kneels in front of you, with a creepy satisfied smile on his face. He looks behind him, to the other guys, and starts laughing like you just told the funniest joke in the world. His goons start laughing with him.
“I’m not going to end this. I wouldn’t want to stop all this fun you’re having!” He stands up, the same creepy smile still on his lips. “You know, you Kryptonians are funny. You act like Gods deciding everyone’s fate with some kind of morality no one even knows if you actually have. So, you’re ok with putting us through pain, but you can’t take any?”
“They are some weak Gods.” One of his henchmen says, and he looks back like he is telling him to shut up.
“Your world exploded for a reason. No kryptonian was supposed to survive. But then Supergirl and Superman came to Earth. Now, they are here dictating rules, expecting everyone to follow them. Who do they think they are? Those cockroaches.” He spits on the floor next to you, and you feel saliva hitting your face. “They’re not even supposed to exist, let alone procreate.”
“Then what are you waiting for?” You whimper, and he gives his maniac laughter again.
“I’ll do you a solid though, just because you’re just a little kid.” He raises a hand and quickly one of his goons puts a gun in his hand. He points at your leg. “I’ll make a little hole, to accelerate your dying process, ‘kay?” And he shoots your leg.
You scream as loud as you can, with all the strength still left in you. You thought you were already in so much pain because of the kryptonite, that this wouldn’t add up and you wouldn’t feel any more. You were wrong. The pain piled up on top of each other. So right now, the inside of your body is agonizing, your leg is burning and you’re bleeding out. Is this pain going to go on forever? It sure feels like it, because no matter how much you pray for it, you’re still not dead.
No, you’re not dead. You’re just lying there in your own vomit and blood, thinking about how much you want this nightmare to end, one way or another, when you hear gunshots. You close your eyes, thinking they’ve changed their minds and decided to shoot you multiple times to end your pain, but you don’t feel anything.
“Supergirl, I’ve been expecting you.” What? You open your eyes when you hear that. You can’t see her, the boss is in front of you with his body, but you get a glimpse of red and your heart beats faster. “As you can see, I have kryptonite and your daughter. Now, would you-”
“FUCK YOU!” She flies towards him with her closed fist, throwing him to the other side of the room. You can’t see him, but you know there’s no way he can recover fast from that. Kara kneels before you, and rips the chains with her hands, tossing the kryptonite to the other side of the room, like it doesn’t even affect her anymore. And if it does, it’s not as painful as seeing your situation.
You thought that once you were free of kryptonite, the pain would go away. It didn’t. Your body still feels like it is up in flames. Kara touches your face, you whimper. You can’t barely make up her face with your one functioning eye, but you see your pain reflected on her face.
She is still kneeling next to you, when she hears a noise coming from where she threw the guy. She blows her freeze breath, holding him back a little. Kara looks around, like she’s looking for something.
“I’ll be right back, my love. Ok? Momma is here.” She disappears right after, but comes back a few seconds later, hair blowing, and even though you didn’t see a thing, you know she just used her super speed.
“Mommy. I’m dying.” You whisper and Kara holds you up, carrying you in the most protective way she can.
“Shhh. You’re ok. Mommy is here. You’re ok.” Kara looks around again and you see aunt Alex going inside the room with the biggest gun you’ve ever seen. “He’s tied up in the corner.”
“J’onn and I got this. Take her to the DEO and put her under the sun light lamp, I’ll be there in a few.” Alex goes to the other side of the room, but you still can hear her. “Oh, you thought it was funny shooting my niece? I’ll show you funny!”
You don’t hear anything else. Kara is flying with you back to National City, and you look up to her. Hair flying in the wind, tears dropping from her eyes, she can’t take her eyes off you.
“I’m here. I’ve got you. You’re safe, baby.” She gives you the saddest smile you’ve ever seen.
“Mommy, I’m dying.” You repeat very slowly, because you don’t have any strength left to speak, and you know Kara can hear you either way. And you need her to know. She needs to know you’re probably not going to make it.
“No, you’re not. You’re ok. We’re going home, ok? We’re almost there. Mommy is here with you and your mom is waiting for you. You’re ok, baby.” Kara is crying so hard you barely make out what she’s saying.
“I’m sorry for what I said. I love you.”
“I love you, little one. I’m sorry. I love you. I love you. I’m sorry.” She keeps repeating that until you close your eyes. You can finally let go, you said everything. She knows you’re sorry, she knows you love her. So, you stop fighting the inevitable.
You thought you would die. You wished you had died. But you’re still here. You hear voices and you feel hands on your body. Someone’s touching your leg, it hurts like a bitch. Someone is squeezing your hand, it’s reassuring. Someone’s kissing your forehead over and over again, it’s calming.
You keep waking up and blacking out. But you don’t think they know this, because you can’t talk, can’t open your eyes, can’t move your body. All you can do is feel pain.
“Baby, my baby. I know you can do this. You can come back to us, please, please. I love you so much, babygirl. You’re my everything.”
“Mom, why isn’t she up yet? It’s been days! You said she would be awake by now.”
“Jamie, I-I don’t… She will wake up, honey. Just give her time, she needs to rest.”
“No. No, mom. She’s supposed to be up by now! Bring her back! Do something!”
“I’ve done everything I can, Jam. Come on, honey. Let’s go. Come.”
“Alex, there must be something else we can do.”
“Kara, you know how much I want her back too, I just- I’m sorry, it’s out of my hands now.”
“I wish I could switch places with her.”
“I know, Kar. I know. Go home, you’ve been in here for days. Go see Lena. Go be with your wife.”
You keep wishing you were dead. But you don’t die, and you also don’t come back to life. You’re half alive, and that’s not enough for anyone.
“Hey, little one.” You hear softly, and your heart beats fast. For the first time you feel you have enough strength to do something. You need to let her know you’re still alive. “I brought donuts, and your homework again.”
You try to ask for food, because you’re starving, but you can’t talk.
“I’ve been doing your homework for the past two weeks, and I have to say, I don’t know how you do this. It’s so much stuff, and you still find time to work on your inventions, and go to trainings…”
Yep, your life’s not as easy as it seems.
“Oooh, want to have a laugh? Your teacher sent me your physics homework yesterday and I obviously didn’t know anything, so I asked your mom for help and guess what? Apparently, Lena doesn’t know everything. It took her ten minutes to solve a problem. It was freaking hilarious.”
It sounds hilarious. You wish you were there.
“Hey. Was that a little laugh?” Kara asks and you try to smile again so she can see it. “I’ll tell Lena you laughed at her. Wait, no. I can’t do that, she’ll have hope.” She breathes heavily and your heart shrinks. “Shoot, I’m crying on your homework again. Your teacher will start wondering.”
You want to wake up so badly. You don’t know why your body doesn’t obey you. You’ve been in this bed under the sun for two weeks apparently. Is your body ever going to respond?
“Hold me.” You beg, trying to make your voice come out. It feels like you’re stuck in those nightmares where you feel like you’re screaming, but no one around hears anything. “Please.”
“Alex said we can take you home, with the lights and all. I’m scared, because I know that here, you’re being watched by doctors, but-” You feel her hand stroking your face gently. “I want you to be comfortable, and I want to lay in bed with you all day. So, should I? Should I take you home?”
YES. Please. Do it. Please. All you want is to go home.
“Yeah. I know. We shouldn’t move you too much. We don’t know what’s going on inside you, right? Besides-” You feel Kara’s warmth next to you. “I can lay in here with you, even though Alex tells me not to. We don’t have to tell her, right?” You feel Kara’s arms around and your eyes water immediately. “Baby, are you crying? Did I- Did I hurt you?” She moves away. “ALEX! ALEX! SHE’S CRYING. DO SOMETHING.”
There’s a weird taste on your mouth. Metallic and bitter. You need to get out of this bed, you need to go back to your life. And you feel it has to be now, or it will be never.
You open your eyes, slowly. It’s hard, it’s like they were glued together. It’s all blurry and undefined. You just see bright yellow, but it’s the first time you’re seeing some color in a while so you can’t complain about it.
“Baby! Kara, Alex! She’s awake!” You hear Lena’s voice and you see black and white mixed with the yellow. It’s probably her hair and face, but you can’t know for sure. There are no shapes, just colors. “Baby, baby, it’s ok. Mom is here.” Lena kisses your face and you feel hands on your body. There’s a very strong hand holding yours, and you know it’s Kara, because she is holding so hard it hurts. And you feel Alex’s hands touching your pulsing points.
“Hey, little one. Can you say something?” Kara asks and you open your mouth.
“My bones.” You whisper so slowly it’s pretty much inaudible; you’re sure only Kara can hear you, and only because of her super hearing.
“Oh, oh, sorry.” She stops squeezing your hand and kisses it, gently. “I forgot about the loss of powers.”
Wait, what?
“Ok, you two move away, please.” Now you see red, mixed with the yellow. “Hey kiddo, this is aunt Alex. Listen I have to do a few tests with you, ok? If you can hear me perfectly, blink once.” You blink once. “Perfect. You’re doing really well. Now, if you can see me perfectly, blink once.” You don’t blink. “Oh, ok. Is it blurry?” You blink once. “Ok, don’t worry, it will go back to normal with time. Now, I want you to move your left leg, just a little. Can you do that for me?” You do it.
She then makes you move every part of your body, and slowly but surely you do all that she asks. You hear Kara and Lena’s celebrations next to you and you smile proud of yourself.
“Hey kiddo, that was perfect! Next time you wake up, you will feel a lot better. I promise you.” You feel a squeeze in your hand, and you give her a little smile. “I don’t want you to get tired, so you can go back to sleep now, and we’ll work more later ok?”
“Wait.” You whisper and she puts her ear close to your mouth so she can hear you. “Lena.”
“She wants you.”
Lena takes Alex’ spot, holding your hand and putting her ear close to your face so she can hear you better.
“I’m sorry.”
“No, no baby, you don’t have anything to feel sorry for. Everything is alright. Listen.” You feel Lena wiping the tears from your cheeks. “You were right. I’m sorry I made you feel like you’re not the most important thing in the world for me, because you are. You are. Stop-stop worrying about it. Just use everything you have to recover, ok?” You nod weakly. “I love you.”
“We love you.” You hear Kara’s voice and you breathe deep.
“Mommy.” Your voice comes out a little stronger, but it is still just a whisper.
“Mommy is here, little one. I’ve got you. We’ve got you.” Kara says and you close your eyes again. Your body might still ache, but your heart doesn’t ache anymore.

Bad Day
Tumblr media
I know what you’re thinking. Another one? Yes, I can’t help my Shameless Hoe self. Steve brings it out in me and the picture above sure as fuck didn’t help. Plus it’s that time of the month and I’m hormonal and horny. This is another entry for the #shamelesshoeforchris by @stargazingfangirl18 and @navybrat817. I hope you enjoy!
Prompts:
“Oh god, did I say that out loud?”
“We’re not done yet”
“Please don’t go”
Words:4.2k
Rating: Explicit(seems to be a theme with me lol)
Warnings: Bad day, smut, period talk, language, unprotected sex, cockwarming
Well, today can officially go fuck itself.
It’s one of the worst days you’ve had in quite awhile.
Your alarm decided not to go off this morning so that made you late and threw off your whole day.
Then you couldn’t find your damn keys. You thought you put them in the bowl by your door but they just weren’t there. You had to spend an extra 20 minutes looking for them(they were in the fridge, how the fuck they ended up there, you’ll never know).
Now you were super late to work. You don’t even have time to stop at Starbucks to get your cold brew. And to top it all off, you started cramping. Signaling your oncoming period. You always got cramps a few days before the inevitable blood bath began. ‘That’s why I’ve been super moody and horny the past couple of days’ you think to yourself as you make your way to your car.
You manage to make it to work unscathed. You head into the Avengers Tower and put your head down to avoid any unnecessary eye contact as you practically run towards the elevators.
Just as the doors shut, your phone dings. Signaling a text.
From: ManChild
Hey, Y/N. Just wondering if you’re planning on coming in today.
You roll your eyes and throw your phone back in your purse not even responding knowing you’ll be seeing your boss in just a minute.
When you got the job as Tony Stark’s assistant you thought it’d be a dream come true. Try nightmare! He’s the biggest child you have ever met. He’s all over the place and it’s your job to try to keep him together. You’re damn good at it too. Some days you don’t even know how you pull it off.
The elevator stops on your floor and you head towards his office. Nat passes you on your way there. “Good morning, Y/N/N! Where’s your cold brew?”
“Good morning, Nat. And ugh don’t even get me started on my horrible day. I didn’t have enough time to stop at Starbucks.” You know you sound whiny but you don’t care. You wave bye to her and pick up your pace a little.
As you continue down the hall, you get a feeling in your lower abdomen that can only be described as a hot knife slicing through your skin. You grab at your stomach and rub as if that’s going to make the pain subside. Shocker, it does absolutely nothing to alleviate the pain.
You start rummaging in your purse trying to find your ibuprofen. You round the corner with your head still down and run straight into what you assume is a brick wall. You brace yourself to hit the floor, accepting your fate, when a hand grabs your arm to steady you.
You look up into the apologetic, blue eyes of Steve Rogers. That’s about the time you feel how wet and sticky you are. You look down and notice you are covered in some kind of brown substance.
“Oh my god,Y/N! I’m so sorry! I wasn’t paying attention and didn’t see you round the corner. Are you alright?” He asks as he stands you completely upright, noticing your stained clothing.
“What is all over me?” You try to start brushing yourself off, making the stain even worse. “My protein shake, I chose chocolate instead of vanilla today. I’m so sorry! I’ll go get you some paper towels.”
“No, I don’t have time. I’m already late and Tony is already pissed at me. I gotta get going. Just make sure to watch where you are going next time. Wouldn’t want your cute, righteous ass to get hurt.” You wink at him and continue your way to your office. Your eyes widen as you realize what you just said. What the fuck is wrong with you? You’ve never said anything like that before to Steve. Jesus, you must be hornier than you thought.
You finally walk through your office door and head to your desk. You hang up your purse on it’s hook and head over to the little bathroom in the office. You wet some paper towels and try to start wiping at the stain on your shirt and pants. You know they are ruined. Not even worth saving. You shrug your shoulders and throw away the soiled paper towels and head back to your desk.
Before you even get the chance to sit down Tony comes strutting out of his office.
“Oh, so you did decide to show up today! You could have at least let me know you were going to be late, Y/N. And not only are you late but you come in all sloppy! I thought you were better than this?” He raises his eyebrows at you expectantly.
Apparently he wanted an answer. “Sorry sir, I have not had the best morning. And on my way here I ran into Steve’s protein shake.” You sigh and look down at your ruined clothes once again. You can feel tears start to well up, god damn hormones. “And to top it all off I’m cramping really bad and could just really use a warm hug, chocolate, an orgasm, and a really long nap.”
Tony’s eyes went wide. “Uh, listen kid I-”
“Oh god, did I say that out loud?” You smack your hand to your forehead. “I’m sorry sir, can we just start over?”
“Actually no. What you can do is go home and get some rest. You clearly need it. And we can try again tomorrow.”
“But I need to work, I can’t afford a day off. Please I promise I’m fine. I won’t cause anymore trouble.” You beg, you really needed the money.
Tony walks over and takes your purse off the hook and hands it to you. “I wasn’t asking dear, I was telling. And don’t worry about the money, I’ll make sure you get paid. We’ll call it a sick day.”
Wow, he’s the best boss ever. You feel the tears welling up again. You reach forward and pull him into your arms for a quick hug, careful not to get any of the protein shake on him.  “Thank you Tony, I really appreciate it.”
“Don’t worry about it, kid. We all have off days. Now get going before I change my mind.” He winks at you and pushes you near the door.
You already start feeling a little better. Knowing your bed and heating pad are waiting for you at home.
You pass by Steve and Bruce on your way towards the elevators. They seem to be having an important discussion about something. You can’t help but take a minute and let your eyes travel over Steve. God he’s fucking beautiful. You’d give anything to be able to climb him like a tree. Just let him fuck your bra- ‘Ok I really need to get out of here before my hormones make me mount him’ you think as you shake your head and start chuckling at yourself.
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
You somehow make it home without anything else bad happening to you.
You head straight to your bedroom and strip out of your ruined clothes, throwing them away. You take a moment to grieve silently. Those were your favorite work slacks.
You jump in the shower and turn it as hot as you can stand it. You start to shampoo your hair when the water suddenly turns ice cold. “Jesus fuck!” You shriek as you jump backwards out of the offending water. You try turning the shower off and back on. But nope, the hot water was not working. “God fucking dammit” you murmur as you try your best to finish your shower in the freezing cold water.
You finish quickly and dry off as fast as you can. You grab a pair of snoopy pajama pants and a big sweatshirt. You also decide on a pair of fuzzy socks. You brush out your tangled hair and throw it up into a bun.
You then go call your landlord to let them know about your shower. He can make it there sometime tomorrow evening. You thank him for being able to come so quickly and head to your bedroom to grab your heating pad.
You stop by the kitchen on the way to the living room to grab something to munch on. You open your pantry and spy the jar of Nutella. You snatch it up and realize it’s empty. Oh well, probably don’t need it anyways. You grab a bottle of water from the fridge instead and head over and plop down on your couch.
You grab the remote and start up Netflix. You plug in your heating pad beside the couch and put it under your sweatshirt right up against your pulsing abdomen.
You start searching through Netflix, looking for something to put on as background noise. You know you’ll end up playing on your phone anyways.
You pick Young and Hungry. You’ve seen it multiple times but decide to start at Episode 1. It never fails to make you laugh.
You press play and then it hits you. You don’t feel any heat on your lower abdomen. You turn around and make sure it didn’t come unplugged. It didn’t. You pull it out of your sweatshirt to see the green light is still on. It isn’t heating up at all. Of course it would break on today of all days. That was the last straw. You break down and start crying. God you really hated your period.
You sit there and self wallow for about 5 minutes before you hear a knock on the door.
You quickly wipe at your eyes with the sleeve of your sweatshirt and walk over to the door, having no idea who it could be.
You open it up and are pleasantly surprised to see Steve standing there with a bouquet of daisies.
He takes in your appearance quickly and smiles at you. “Hi doll, I stopped by your desk but Tony said you went home for the day not feeling well.” He hands you the flowers, which you accept gratefully. “I just wanted to apologize again for this morning. And offer to give you money to replace your clothes.” He goes to take his wallet out of his jeans. You put your hand on his arm, “Really you don’t have to do that. It wasn’t your fault. I wasn’t watching where I was going. But thank you for the daisies. I’m having the shittiest day and you’ve just made it a little less shitty.” You then give him your best smile.
He feels his heart rate pick up. “Are you sure? I don’t mind paying. And I’m sorry you’re having a bad day. Do you want to talk about it? I know sometimes that can help.” He gives you a smile that makes your insides melt. “You don’t have to listen to my problems, but you can come in and hang out if you don’t have any prior engagements.” You step aside and gesture for him to come in.
He crosses the threshold and heads towards the living room, seeing your heating pad lying on the floor. He furrows his brows and wonders why you’d need a heating pad.
You head into the kitchen and quickly put the flowers in a vase with some water, wanting to get to Steve.
You head into the living room and see him looking at your useless heating pad. “Oh, that’s broken. I need to throw that away.” You head over to pick it up and go toss it in the kitchen trash.
You head back into the living room and see that Steve has taken a seat on your couch. You go sit beside him and turn to look at him. “Thanks again for the flowers, Steve. You didn’t have to do that.”
He turns towards you and smiles. “It’s the least I could do. Why were you using a heating pad? I didn’t hurt you when I ran into you did I?”
You blush and look down. “Oh, no. Don’t worry about that. I’m just having some pretty bad cramps.” You can’t believe you just admitted to Steve that you’re cramping. How embarrassing.
He gives you a sympathetic look. “I can’t say I know what those feel like but I’m sorry you’re in pain. Is there anything I can do for you?”
“Unless you give off heat, no unfortunately there’s not. I already took pain meds when I got home.”
He then reaches and grabs your arms and lays back on the couch, bringing you with him until your back is pressed against his front. “Steve, what are you doing?” You ask as you go to sit back up. He tightens his hold on you. “Just wait a second, doll. I’m helping.” He takes his right hand and moves your sweatshirt up just a bit making you gasp. He places his giant hand on your abdomen and starts massaging gently.
You melt into him. “Oh my god, you feel better than my heating pad. Why are you so hot?” You moan and realize how that could’ve sounded. He just chuckles. “Just one of the side effects of the serum. Is that feeling any better?” You nod and snuggle back against him, your arms curling around his.
“What else happened today, doll?” You start by telling him about your alarm and end with you breaking down after you realized your heating pad broke. “I still can’t believe I told my boss I needed an orgasm, I mean how fucking embarrassing. He probably sent me home because he was afraid of me.” You shake your head at yourself as Steve chuckles behind you. “Well, aren’t orgasms supposed to help with cramps?”
“What are you reading on the internet where you would’ve gotten that information Steve?” You tease. His hand has now dipped below your pajama pants just a little, settling on your lower abdomen. “Actually, I heard Nat talking about it one day. She said it really helps hers. Is that true for all women or just some?”
You close your eyes as he starts massaging your tummy again, “It makes my best friend’s cramps worse. I guess it really just depends on the woman.”
“Well, what about you? Do they make you feel better?” You couldn’t help but notice something hardening behind your ass. You gulp and whisper out “yes, they have in the past.” You can feel him press against you a little more, a small groan escaping his lips. “Well, why don’t you let me help you feel better?” His hand starts moving towards your panties. Then he stops suddenly and pulls his hand out.
“Wait, are you bleeding? I don’t want to make a mess on your couch.”  You turn around and face him, “No, I’m lucky enough to get cramps a few days before shark week starts.” You say sarcastically. “But Steve, you don’t have to help me. I can take care of myself. I’ve been doing it for awhile now.”
He tucks a strand of hair behind your ear that had fallen free from your messy bun. He looks into your eyes and smirks, “But what if I want to help you? Would you let me?”
You think about it for less than a minute and scoot a little closer to him, “If you really want to Steve. I’ll leave that up to you.”
He moves his hand to the back of your neck and pulls you in for a sweet kiss. You reach up and run your fingers through his hair as his left hand moves under you to rest on your back, pulling you closer to him. He moves his right hand down your body and grabs your leg to hitch it over his hip.
You gasp into his mouth as you feel how hard he is, pressing right into your core. He takes this opportunity to explore your mouth with his tongue. You kiss back eagerly and start rolling your hips against him. He pulls away from your mouth and moves slow kisses down your neck. “That’s right doll, take what you need from me. Make yourself feel good.”
You whimper as you roll your hips harder into his. The friction is delicious on your clit.  He moves his right hand to your ass and pushes you into his erection even harder making you moan out his name. “That feel good, doll?” You nod your head and continue grinding your hips against his. It doesn’t take long for you to feel the coil tightening in your belly. You’ve been horny all day. Your breathing picks up and you pull his hair to move his mouth back to yours. He pulls back to look at you, “You gonna come for me, Y/N? Gonna make a mess in your panties?”
You can only nod as you feel the coil winding tighter and tighter. You’re almost there. You just need a little something more to push you over the edge.
Steve moves back to your neck and starts kissing it again. He then bites down where your neck meets your shoulder and that’s what does it. You fall over the edge with a surprised shout. Steve’s name falling from your lips.
He continues grinding into you until you come down from your high.
He removes his head from your neck and smiles down at you. Placing another sweet kiss on your lips. You pull back, “Thanks, Stevie. I’m already starting to feel better.”
He looks at you confused. “Oh, we’re not done yet, doll. I can give you a better orgasm than that. If you’ll let me.” He looks at you, waiting for your answer. Your pussy clenches in anticipation for the possibility of another release.
You smirk at him and push him back and maneuver yourself so you’re resting on top of him, straddling his hips. You pull him in for another kiss, this one more urgent than the last. You take his hands and place them under your sweater. He gets the hint and moves until he’s cupping a breast in each hand and pinching your nipples, eliciting a loud moan from you. He smirks up at you. “Yeah, you like that?” You can only nod. “Oh yeah, they are always extra sensitive around this time.”
He sits up and yanks your sweatshirt off and tosses it away. He attaches his mouth to one nipple and starts sucking. His other hand continuing his pinching on the other.
You roll your hips against his, trying to pull his t-shirt off of him. He pulls back long enough for you to remove the offending article of clothing before attaching his mouth to the other nipple, sucking hard.
You throw your head back and moan, grinding your hips down against his bulge. “Please Steve, I need you.”
He takes his mouth off your breast and stands you both up. He quickly discards his jeans and boxers. You can’t help yourself as your eyes travel down his body. You take in the sight of his cock and you feel a new rush of slick gather in your panties. He was big. Not so big that it would be painful, but still bigger than you’ve ever taken. He must notice your expression. “Something wrong, Y/N? Does my big, thick cock scare you?” He smirks cockily at you.
You step forward and wrap your hand around his impressive size and lean up to whisper in his ear, “Not at all, Captain. I just can’t wait to feel you inside of my tight pussy.” You grin in satisfaction at the shiver that wracks his body.
You decide you’re not waiting anymore and push him with enough force that he lands on the couch. He looks up at you surprised and then smirks when he sees you look him up and down again. He starts stroking his cock slowly, waiting patiently for you.
You snap out of your gaze and quickly remove the rest of your clothes and walk to straddle him. He puts his hand on your stomach to push you away a little. You look at him in confusion. “Do you have any condoms? I don’t keep any on me.” He asks as he looks hopefully at you. You shake your head. “We don’t need one, I’m on the pill. We’re safe.” He nods his head in understanding and wraps his hand around your arm and tugs you forward.
You fall ungraciously on top of him and let out a laugh. You straighten yourself and throw your arms around his neck, leaning down for a kiss, “Someone’s eager.” He chuckles and returns the kiss eagerly. “Sorry doll, it’s just been awhile.”
You pull back and look down at him. “We really don’t have to do this, Steve. I’ve heard you talk about sex before and I know you think it’s special.”
He smiles at you. “It will be special because it’s with you, Y/N.” You can feel the butterflies in your stomach at his words. You nod and move your hand down to wrap around him once more. He hisses at the contact and grabs onto your hips. You move him towards your entrance and run the head of his cock back and forth against your slit, getting him nice and coated with your slick.
Once you decide it’s enough, you slowly start to sink down on him. You moan at the deliciously painful stretch of him filling you up. He throws his head back against the couch and tightens his hold on your hips. You continue slowly sliding down his girth until you are fully seated on him.
You give your body a minute to adjust to his size. You pull him into another kiss and start moving your hips against his. He matches your pace and moves one hand back until he’s gripping your ass. You start moving your hips harder against him, his cock hitting your g-spot in just the right way. He keeps up with your pace as he moves his mouth from yours and attaches it to your nipple again. He bites down and it makes you clench around him. He groans and pulls back to look at you. “That’s right, doll. Take what you need from me. Use my cock. You feel so good wrapped around me. So tight and wet.”
You can feel the coil in your belly, threatening to snap at any second. But you don’t want it to. He feels too damn good inside you. He can tell you’re trying to hold back. He can feel you fluttering around his cock. He moves the hand that’s on your ass and moves it to the front and continues his path down until his thumb is circling your clit. “That’s it, doll. Come for me. I wanna watch you fall apart. Wanna feel you come around my cock. Let go, Y/N. I’m right behind you.”
You speed up your hips a little more and tug your fingers through his hair as you feel the coil snap. The most intense orgasm you’ve ever had wracks through your body, making you shake. Steve’s name falling like a prayer from your lips.
He wraps his arms around you and continues thrusting into you as best he can with how hard your pussy is squeezing his cock. Trying to prolong your pleasure as he seeks out his.
It only takes him a couple more thrusts before he releases himself inside of you, coating your walls with his seed. You moan at the feeling and pull him into another kiss, wrapping your arms around his neck. You need him close to you. He must feel the same way because he moves you both onto your sides and hugs you against him, still inside of you, his face pressed into the crook of your neck.
You feel so warm and content. A happy sigh escapes your lips. Steve chuckles, “You feeling better, Y/N?” You nod, running your fingers down his back. You don’t even feel the cramps anymore. “Oh, yes. Thank you so much, Steve.” He pulls back and plants another sweet kiss on your lips. “I really hope this isn’t just a one time thing, Y/N. I know we are doing this backwards but I’d really like to take you out to dinner and see if this goes anywhere?” He asks looking into your eyes. His are full of hope and fear. Not that you’d want to, but how could you say no to that face?
You smile wide and pull him in for another kiss, “I would love nothing more than that, Steve. But I’m super tired now. Can we take a nap and then go to dinner?” You stick your bottom lip out earning you a chuckle from him. “Of course we can, sweetheart. But I don’t  plan on moving from inside you, you’re too warm. Is that ok?” You nod and grab the blanket from the back of your couch and drape it over the both of you. “Yes, please don’t go. I’ve got you right where I want you.”
He smiles and tucks his face back into the crook of your neck, moving his hands up and down your back. You close your eyes and fall into the most blissful sleep you’ve had in ages.

Okay, now let’s get to the fun part, shall we? Hope you’ll enjoy 😉
I walk from Matt’s office to my desk in utter shock.
*What the hell is going on?* Is all I can think about. What seemed to be the opportunity of a life time (career wise) is becoming a true nightmare. One I couldn’t wait to wake up.
“Hey, kid! My office, NOW!” Jeffrey screamed
*Oh God, that’s all I needed right now*
“Yes, Jeffrey?” I reluctantly asked
He urgently closed and locked his office’s door
“Why did you locked the door?” I ask suspicious
He ignored me and motions for me to sit down. He was so nervous that it would be irrelevant to try to do anything but obey him.
“Happy?” I said bitterly
“Did you knew I was being tracked?” He whispered
“What do you mean?”
“Someone wiretapped my house!”
“Wait, wait. What? Are you serious Jeffrey?”
“Do I look like I’m joking to you, kid?” He angrily whispered
“Why would someone wiretap you?”
“How the fuck would I know? The only thing I know is that it came from the Bureau”
“How do you know that?”
“Because we are the only ones who use that type of technology. You can’t find that shit on the streets! Which makes me think why the fuck is somebody from this building minding my business?”He whispered screamed again
“Ok, first of all, you need to calm the fuck down! You’re little temper is not helping me to think at all. And you’re practically demonstrating to the person who did that, that you know about the wire. So take a deep breath, old man” I whispered and in an attempt to calm himself down, Jeffrey lit up a cigarette.
“Alright, where did you found the wiretap?”
“On the cable modem. We leave it at the leaving room”
“Ok, have you had any problems with your internet signal?”
“No. Why?”
“Sometimes in order to place a wire inside the house, they cause an external problem in the signal so you’ll call the cable company and someone from investigation will get inside the house to put the wire, pretending to be someone from the cable company” I explained and he gave me a puzzled look
“What?” I ask
“How do you-“
“They did that in New York to catch the Mob bosses. What kind of cop are you Jeffrey that doesn’t know about the biggest take down of the five biggest mob families of New York?” I tease
“I’m getting old, that’s my excuse” He laughs
“So if nobody came to fix anything, they must have came in normally then....has anyone from the Bureau came to your house recently?”
“Oh fuck. Everybody, kid”
“Everybody?”
“Yeah, two weeks ago, remember?”
“Shit, your birthday party” I dropped my head in defeat
“We have at least 30 suspects” He mumble
Something tells me whoever is doing this is trying to put me against Jeffrey so I decided to come clean with him
“Jeff, someone requested for a tracker on Roman Reigns”
“Please tell me you’re shitting me” He murmured “Who signed?”
“Apparently me”
“WHAT?” He screamed
“Shhhhh, someone will hear you!”
“What do you mean with ‘apparently you’?”
“My DEA ID number was in the requested by space”
“And how could someone get that?” He asked
“According to Matt, anyone who’s smart enough. He said is not that difficult, you just need to know where to look” I sighed
“Do you know when it was installed?”
“Yesterday, as I was there. Whoever did it wanted to make sure the timing matched perfectly....My biggest fear is for him to find out before I can remov-“ I was cut off by my phone ringing with an unfamiliar number.
“Y/L/N” Was my greeting
“Good morning, agent Y/L/N.”
*Oh fuck no!* I thought
“Good morning Mr. Reigns, how can I help you?”
“Well, I would like for you to join me for lunch, I have a subject I would like to discuss with you”
“I’m afraid I can’t, sir. I have a lot of work and-“
“Oh I’m certain your work can wait agent Y/L/N. Since you have some explaining to do”
“I beg your pardon?” I was already preparing myself for what I knew it would be inevitable
Roman laughs amused “Y/N. Did you really thought you could put a tracker on me and I wouldn’t find out? C’mon baby, I thought you were smarter than that!”
“Mr. Reigns, it’s not what you think-“
“I’m not gonna discuss this through a phone call. Be here at noon!” His voice colder than a bucket of ice
He hung up, before I could even protest it.
“What is it?” Jeffrey asked
“He found out and wants me to explain it” I faintly whispered
“Fucking great!” He grunts “Are you gonna go? Do you want me to go with you?”
“I have to go, I got no choice. And no, if I show up there with you is just gonna make things worst”
He nods “What are you going to do, kid?”
“Pray Jeff...pray like a fucking nun!”
......................................................................
“There she is! The little sneaky spy” Roman smirked at me “Please, sit” He motions to his office chair. The same one I sat the first time I was there.
“So, are you going to explain to me about this little thing?” He dropped the tracker on my lap
“Mr. Reigns, I know how this looks to you but I can guarantee, I didn’t requested this”
“You didn’t? Then how come is your internal identification number upon the request by line?”
*Of course he knows about that too*
“That’s what I’m trying to find out, sir”
“So what? You’re not trying to pull up the old trick that somebody is setting you up, right Y/N?”
“I know is hard to believe and if was in your position I would have the same disbelief as you right now, but unfortunately that is the pathetic truth”
“Do you expect me to believe that, agent Y/L/N?” He chuckled
I stare at him, responding “No, Mr. Reigns. I expect you to be reasonable, I would be naïve to think that I could do such an immature move like putting a tracker on you and expect you not to find out about it. As a matter of fact I would be straight up dumb if I thought that, that would ever work. So no I didn’t do it, somebody else did and that’s the reality, now whether you want to believe it or not it’s not my problem” I was taking a big risk talking to him like that, but it was the only thing I could do right now, bluff.
Roman places both of his hands on my thighs, leaning down until our faces are uncomfortably close.
“You play a dangerous game, Y/N. A very, very dangerous game” He licks my bottom lip “But I like that, it turns me on” Roman dragged his nose upon my neck, breathing in my scent
“You turn me on” He whispers in my ear “The things I can see myself doing to you are pure torture because that’s all what they are: imagination, and I want them to become reality. I want to see you spreading your legs for me, I want you in all fours on top of my bed, I want your pretty lips around my cock, I want my face in between your thighs, I want to fuck you in whatever pace I feel like it, I want you to take every inch of my cock, I wanna feel you stretching around me baby, moaning for me to go deeper and harder”
This man...The things he says, his voice so deep, his cologne filling up my nostrils and intoxicating me on his scent, on him.
“Roman” I whispered, but he continued
“You know there’s a chemistry between us, I know you can feel it too babygirl, so why hide it? Why suppress it, when we can put this stamina to good use, baby? I want it, you want it, it’s a simple math”
“That wouldn’t be very professional, I’m afraid” I mumbled
He leans back to look me in the eyes
“The tracker isn’t very professional as well is it?”
“I already told you it wasn’t me”
“And do you think a judge in court will care? There’s your personal DEA number in there, a number that technically only you have access to it and as far as I’m concerned that little tracker would be considered an invasion of privacy, I could sue not only you but the DEA for that. I mean, I signed an official document allowing you to search for anything you want in my professional life, not on my personal one and that tracker was installed on one of my private cars. Do you see my point, Y/N?”
“You want me to fuck you in order for you to keep your mouth shut” I angrily murmured
“Well, biologically speaking I would be the one to fuck you not the other way around” He smirked
“You’re so low, Roman” I spat
“Roman? No more formalities I see, I like that” He smiled
“Not happening” I shake my head vigorously
“What? Do you find me so repugnant that the thought of sleeping with me is that horrifying?” He asked amused
“It’s not that-“
“Oh, so you do find me attractive?” He asks pretending to be surprised
“Modesty doesn’t suits you, Mr. Reigns” I mocked
“So what is it?”
“If I do it, it’s gonna be like signing my guilty sentence. I would be screwing you to somehow make me innocent” I answered
Roman pulled me up from the chair, hugged my waist resting his hands mere inches from my ass.
“No baby, screwing me would be the equivalent to not getting fired, not having a billionaire lawsuit filled against you and not spending the rest of your life in prison” He smiled, now caressing my butt cheeks
“So babygirl, what’s gonna be?”

I'll Always Be Yours (Part 3)
Part 1
Part 2
Tumblr media
Third Song : Sa Ngalan ng Pag-Ibig (In the name of love)
A/N : I didn’t realize that the end of the song was literally just the chorus twice despite listening to it for years now. Damn.
A little bit late but updating again which is more than I can say about some things that I'm writing.
Eh.
Also, forgot to add that the Italicized words are the lyrics that are translated. From google. Because my mind doesn't like translating when it doesn't need to.
Warning : Angst
How long will I wait as if no one will replace you
Wherever you are, my heart cries out for you even now
-
You’re sitting on a bench with Silvia and she hums as you sketch the pond in front of you.
“So did you find her?” Silvia asks and you drop your pencil as you flinch. You hum in confirmation and she takes your pencil before it drops to the ground. “Really? Where is she then?” Silvia twirls your pencil in her hand.
“Probably with her boyfriend.” Silvia stops and you take your pencil from her and begin sketching.
“God… did she-?”
“Silvia.” You say sharply and Silvia nods. “I don’t want to talk about it anymore.”
“Okay.” You hum.
-
You smile as you see videos of her saving people. The Battle of New York really did wonders for them. One video catches your eye… it was about you and her.
It was by a fan of yours who saw the similarities between the redheads in your paintings and Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow herself.
“It seems that Master Y/N knew miss Romanoff.” You scoff. Knew is a big understatement. You didn’t just know her. You loved her. Every single fiber of your being is buzzing when you see her. When she cries or has a nightmare, you were there for her. “Because the redhead portraits are so popular in Russia. She always donates these portraits despite news that people offered her ridiculous prices for it.” You sigh. It is true. The biggest offer was 20 million dollars and you didn’t even flinch when you said no. After all, you meant it what you told that curator. People shouldn’t monopolize the woman who is the love of your life… That’s why you don’t want to either. “People have theorized that they’re maybe ex-lovers? Childhood friends? No one knows but the Master herself. She always rejects interviews and appearances. She always said to let her art speak for itself.” You smile. “And so you can’t argue with me. When you can feel the love from the strokes.” You gulp. Wow, was this kid good. “The way that the master uses colors to portrait Miss Romanoff is nothing but extraordinary so there. Would you do that for a friend?” You shake your head. “Which is why I believe that Y/N is either a big fan of the Black Widow or they were lovers before.”
“Big fan is an understatement.” You mumble.
“Unrequited love is also on the table.” Then it hit you. Oh. Right. Damn. You clench your fist as the video shows Natasha’s portrait inside Louvre.
“It definitely is kid.” You cry. “It definitely is.”
-
If only you had seen the sadness in your smile, one morning you would did not come back
Wake up and when you see the sweetness of yesterday's moment will not return
-
Natasha scoffs at Steve who has his arms crossed. Clint rolls his eyes at them.
They’ve been at it for two days straight. Ever since the mission started, Natasha has been grumpy and is fighting Steve to let her go back.
“What is so important back there, anyway!?” Natasha and Clint glare at Steve.
“Cap, just because you lost Peggy doesn’t mean most of us don’t have anyone anymore.” Steve pales and he stumbles as he tries to apologize. Natasha looks away on the window and imagines you.
-
Natasha hums as she showers. She should call you… but she didn’t have your number. She didn’t know you anymore.
When she first left, she wanted to come back immediately. To remain and to keep loving you.
But you didn’t want her to. When she told you about defecting, you had a sad smile but you approved of it. You didn’t want the red room to control her life anymore and you knew that SHIELD, despite their secrecy and all that, is on the right side of things… Because you’ve met Peggy Carter yourself. The woman herself was friends with your mother and would visit sometimes while you were growing up. She didn’t openly talk about SHIELD but you figured how to listen while no one notices… Yeah, you were a nosy kid. SHIELD is a much better environment for Natalia. No brainwashing, just missions.
-
“Do it.” It floored Natalia how fast you told her to go. Did you not want her anymore? “Natalia, I know them. I’ve met Peggy and she… she was brilliant. Kind. Badass. You know? Just like you.” That made Natalia smile. You kiss her knuckles and smirk. “You should go there instead of here.”
“You don’t like Russia?” You laugh and sit on the bed, your bare chest for Natalia to see.
“No.” You bite her finger lightly. “Not when they hurt the love of my life.”
“I’m the love of your life?” Natalia says, teasing you and you chuckle. You smile at her.
“Right from the start, Nat.” Natalia’s heartbeat faster as you get closer to her. “You’ve got my heart and you never lost it.”
“I love you.” She says softly and you kiss her palm.
“I love you too. Nat. Always.”
-
Natasha wakes up from her memory of you and she sighs. All she wants now is to hold you in her arms.
-
Until the end of our eternity
Until the heart feels nothing
Even after forever
I will wait in the name of love
-
You sigh as you sketch her again. It’s been a month since you said those words to Steve. You’ve followed all of the fan accounts for her and you smile every single time there is a new video of her. You skim through the pages of your pad that’s specially for her and you groan as you realize that there are only a few blank pages left.
“Something wrong?” Silvia asks and you look up to her.
“Nah, just. I’m running out of pages.”
“Isn’t that one reserved for her?” Silvia doesn’t like to mention Natalia’s name anymore so she always just uses her pronouns.
“Yeah.”
“And you already filled it?? The last one was just three weeks ago.” You shrug at her and she gives you your tea.
“Thanks.” You mumble and sip.
“Wanna get one then?” You nod.
“Yeah.”
-
“Will you move on then?” Silvia asks as you paint a landscape.
“Move on from what?”
“From her?” You slowly stop painting and turn to Silvia.
“I don’t think so.” “What? Why?”
“She still makes my heart beat faster, Silvia. You know, like Miyuki does for you?”
“But you’ve already waited 10 years… and she has a boyfriend already.”
“I meant it when I said always to her, Silvia. I’ll wait for her forever.”
“But why?” You grin.
“In the name of love.”
-
Natasha grumbles as Clint drags her away from the apartment that they were living in. The mission has been going on for a month and they were going nowhere except for a few bits.
“Come on. Let’s go and you can tell me all about her.”
“Who?” Clint rolls his eyes as they enter a diner. They sit on a booth by the window.
“Don’t be daft. I know about her. I was there when you left her.” Natasha groans as she hits her head on their table.
“Do you think Tony can find where she is for me?”
“Yeah? If not, we can always blackmail him.”
“Oh. Yeah. Nice.”
“Now, come on. Tell me.”
-
How much longer will I endure, drowning in thought
You were the last one in my dream
You since then, you until now
-
You pant as you hover over her. She smirks as she runs her hand through your bare chest.
“Want to go again?” She asks and you laugh.
“You insatiable minx.” She laughs as you dip to kiss her neck.
“Only for you, Y/N. Only for you.” You smirk at her neck and bite her there. She moans and you begin making love to her again.
-
You gasp as you wake up. It was another memory of Natalia. Ever since you’ve seen her in that mall. All of your memories are attacking you…
“Jesus Christ.” You mumble as you run a hand through your hair. “Damn it.” You look out your window. You sigh as you get off your bed. You get yourself a bottle of water from the kitchen. You were drinking from it when your phone pings. It was another video of Natasha. You smile as you that it was her with a bunch of kids and she was laughing with them. Your phone rings and you see that it’s Silvia.
“What’s up?”
“You sure you wanna hire Miyuki?” You scrunch up your face.
“You don’t want to be with your girlfriend?” “WHAT!? Of course I do!”
“Then why do you keep asking me?” Silvia sighs.
“Never mind. When are we flying out of here?”
“Tomorrow.” You hear her hum. “So get some sleep.”
“Roger, boss.” You toss your phone on your bed and sigh. You get your new sketchpad and begin drawing her again.
-
“Nat. You okay?”
“Yeah… Clint?” Clint hums as they go to the living room of the compound.
“What’s up?”
“Since when does everyone call me Nat?”
“Since from the start… Do you not like it?”
“No. It just reminds me of her.” Clint smiles then drags her to Tony’s lab.
“Then let’s get Stark to find her.”

A/N: once again - just keep poking me until I start tagging you if you want tagged. @rampant-salamander, @bolontiku
...
I looked from Tony to Thor and back to Tony.
“I don’t understand your question,” I responded, and threw back the drink. To hell with being moderate. I was pretty sure I was about to lose my dream job on my second day, I may as well go out with a bang.
“Ella, there has to be something special about you to allow you to lift that hammer,” Tony spoke slowly. That was probably a bad thing. I suspected slow speech meant a really active brain. I was now a mystery that needed to be solved.
“There is nothing special about me at all,” I argued.
“You can lift Mjolnir. That is special.” Thor was like a sage who spoke in riddles.
“But being able to lift Mjolnir isn’t what makes me special enough to lift it. That’s a redundancy.” I, like Tony, was slipping into scientific method in order to try to sort things out.
“Do you have Aesir blood, Ella?” Thor asked.
“My family is from Washington. By way of Wisconsin,” I replied. Tony snorted and Thor shot him a dirty look.
“Before this Wisconsin?” He pressed. The way he said Wisconsin made it sound unfamiliar and strange.
“Norway and England.”
“Norway. That is where the Northmen resided.” Thor looked thoughtful. “In the time of the Vikings, the Aesir traveled on Midgard much more frequently than they do now.”
“Are you suggesting that some ancestor of mine got knocked up by a god?” I could feel my eyebrow rising. Tony smothered a smirk behind his hand. My tone was lost on Thor.
“We are not gods, Ella,” Thor corrected. “And I am unfamiliar with knocked up. What I suggest is that your ancestor was impregnated by an Aesir.”
“But in order to lift your hammer, wouldn’t it have to be you that got this mystery ancestor pregnant? I’d have to be your descendent?” I could feel the blood draining from my face. It would be just my luck that the hottest guy I’d ever seen would be related to me. Thor’s smile was mischievous.
“Not necessarily. I would have discovered offspring of mine on Midgard by now, and I know left none. But I think it reasonable to consider you may have Aesir blood in your veins,” he explained. “Which makes you very special indeed.”
“Can everyone in Asgard lift your hammer?” I asked. Thor shook his head.
“None but I.”
“Then I don’t buy it. I keep telling people, I’m nothing special.” I was getting frustrated with the scrutiny. I never thought I would be desperate for a cute guy to stop paying attention to me, but in that moment, I would have given anything to be able to just go hide in obscurity in the lab, building my washing machine.
“But that’s where you’re wrong, Ella,” Tony interrupted. I’d nearly forgotten he was there, Thor had such powerful bearing. I didn’t think it was possible to lose track of Tony Stark, but I guess in the presence of not-actually-gods… “You are something special. That’s why Pepper and I lept on your application like we did. How did you make it through university with such a bad self image?”
“I don’t have a bad self image. I know I’m a fucking amazing engineer. I just fail to see a correlation between my ability to understand math and build things and my purported mystical ability to lift a magic hammer,” I snapped. I turned back to Thor. “You’re sure no one else can lift it?” Thor glanced at Tony, almost as though he was looking for approval. Tony gave a slight nod.
“I believe that Captain Rogers would be able to lift it, should he have the opportunity. But that remains untested,” Thor admitted. I sighed.
“Of course. He’s a legit hero. Full of righteousness and honour and nobility.” My tone was more sarcastic than I’d intended.
“Yes, intangible and arbitrary measures of worthiness. Who is to say you don’t meet the parameters in some way?” Thor shot back. I looked into my empty glass, wishing it were still full.
“Did you not see me level that d-bag in the elevator?”
“Tis nothing I would not have done myself, and yet I am still worthy,” Thor shrugged. Pepper had walked in at some point during the conversation, and Tony turned to her expectantly. She sighed and blinked slowly.
“We’ve had a discussion about appropriate professional behaviour. He is aware that if there are any further incidents he will lose his internship.” Pepper reached out for the glass of wine Tony was offering her.
“It’s a bit of a PR nightmare if we lose a second intern in as many days, Pep,” Tony commented.
“It’s a worse nightmare if, right as we’re rolling out a gender equality program and girl’s STEM mentorship program, the media gets ahold of information about how we’re allowing someone guilty of sexual harassment to remain in a prestigious and competitive internship,” she retorted. He pursed his lips and paused. After a moment he nodded in agreement.
“What do I know? You’re the boss.” His acquiescence was met with laughter from Pepper.
“What do you know, Tony? How many times did you attend the SHIELD seminar again?” She choked on her wine. “Trust me. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt. He’s a smart guy, and I’d like to think he’ll be respectful from now on.” Tony responded with some other comment and I slumped back into my seat, watching the show. If you didn’t know they were stupidly in love with one another, you might assume they were on the verge of war. But I think Tony liked to goad Pepper, and she rose to the bait. Not because she was gullible though. At least, I didn’t think it was because she was easily duped. I think she rose to the bait because it was how they clicked together. I looked away from them and over to Thor, who was sitting back on the couch, completely relaxed. The hammer was propped up beside him, handle leaning against the bolster. It was uncanny how powerful he looked, even in jeans and a t-shirt. I relaxed a little and just enjoyed looking at him, taking in the contours of his biceps, and the definition of the veins in his hands. There was a lot of him to look at, and it was all very pleasing to the eye. At least, everything I’d seen thus far.
I didn’t realize how overt I was being until he smirked. He turned to look at me, and nodded.
“Is it not considered poor manners on Midgard to stare at others?” There was a teasing tone to his voice, but I blinked and looked away, feeling my cheeks colour.
There was really no way for me to deny that I was staring at him. The only blank wall in the entire place was right behind him. I couldn’t even beg being distracted by some of the weird art that seemed to be all over the building.
“I, uh, well,” I stammered. “I was looking at the hammer?” It sounded like bullshit, even to me. I heard a stifled laugh from Tony and shot him a filthy look. I pushed myself to my feet and glanced at Pepper. “If you don’t need me, Pepper, I’m going to try to catch up with Angela. I have some things I need to pick up for my suite.”
“You can order anything you need from distribution,” Tony offered.
“Except, apparently, towels bigger than a postage stamp,” I retorted. My ears were burning and I was having a really hard time not looking over to see if Thor was following the conversation. He probably was as there was no one else for him to pay attention to.
“You are aware there’s varying sizes of towel?” Tony’s tone was sarcastic. I rolled my eyes.
“Not that this is really a conversation I feel I want to have with my boss, but I grabbed the biggest one. It still barely covered me.” I was ready to pray for a hole to open in the floor and swallow me.
“Well, you’re not exactly supposed to be lounging around in your tow –“
“I wasn’t!” I interrupted. “I was just getting out of the shower when Thor showed up and I didn’t have time to be getting fully dressed before I answered the door, and then the towel slipped and oh my god I cannot believe I’m telling you all this.” I took a deep breath and looked back to Pepper. “Can I go? Please?”
“Let me walk you to the elevator,” she offered and led the way. As we walked away, I heard Tony clear his throat.
“You’ve seen her naked already, you sly dog?”
“That is enough, Stark. How you have lived so many years on this realm and not noticed how modest some of your women are, I have no idea. But you embarrassed her. Like many Midgardians, she lacks comfort with the physical form.” Thor’s words were a chastisement, and I somehow felt even more embarrassed about him having seen me naked. Because now, not only was I naked in front of the freaking Norse god of thunder, but also he took more notice of what a prude I am than that I was naked. I leaned against the wall and banged my head against it.
“That’s not how you call the elevator,” Pepper teased. “I know we all collectively keep telling you to relax, but, yeah. Relax. If Tony is already giving you a hard time, he’s assimilating you into his world as a permanent fixture. This will be something you laugh about in future years.” Her eyes were warm with empathy and it was so reassuring.
“You seriously need to do something about the towel situation, Pepper.” I stepped onto the elevator and pushed the button for my floor. Once the doors shut, I texted Angela to see how far she’d got without me. I didn’t have to wait long. I was swiping my passcard to get into my room when she stepped off the elevator.
“So, towels? Maybe a beer?” She followed me into my apartment.
“Yes. To both.”
XXX
For whatever reason, I expected getting beer with Angela would be more Sex-in-the-City than it was. She pulled me into a quiet bar after we’d found appropriate towels, and we ordered wings from the kitchen and beer.
“So I did some research today while you were meeting with Markus,” she volunteered over a heap of wing bones. I made a noise that was easily interpretable as curiosity and she continued. “I might have hacked some of Tony’s files about that hammer. Thor wasn’t kidding around when he said you shouldn’t be able to lift it. It was apparently forged in the heart of a dying star, of some crazy space-metal. And the Odin enchanted it so only Thor could lift it. Which is clearly a broken enchantment because apparently you can lift it too.”
“It says right on it that if you’re worthy, you can lift it,” I corrected her with my mouth full.
“Obviously it doesn’t take table manners into consideration!” She laughed. I hung my head in mock-shame, but made sure my mouth was clear before I spoke again.
“I don’t know how it determines worthiness. Honestly, isn’t that a little creepy? Is the hammer sentient? Does it consider the merits of each individual that touches it in that split second between grabbing it and trying to lift it? Or does Odin have some sort of approval system for worthiness, and he gets interrupted from whatever it is he’s doing to approve people in that same fraction of an instant?” I pondered.
“Way to ruin magic with science,” she groaned.
“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. That’s Clarke’s Third Law. The other two are pretty good too,” I shrugged.
“Oh, that was a kill shot! Come on, let me have some sort of fantasy about the mystical powers of the damn hammer, Ella!” Angela threw her hands up in frustration. I smiled and nodded.
“Of course. The hammer is mystical and powerful and absolutely should not be questioned,” I acceded. Angela swatted at me and flagged the waitress over for another round. I felt myself relaxing and forgetting about the overwhelming stress of the past couple of days as we decompressed over a second beer. When Angela dropped me back at the tower, I realized she may very well live on-site as well, but I was tired and had a bit of a beer buzz and forgot to ask before stumbling through my door and crashing on the sofa.

Summer Nights: Part 1
Tumblr media
Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairing: Charlie Weasley x Overweight/Plus size Female identifying Reader
Series: Summer Nights
Warning: Fred’s death, the series will mention issues such as guilt, grief, etc.
Writer:  @writings-of-a-hufflepuff (formerly imaginesofeveryfandom) aka @hufflepuffing-all-day-long
Summary/Request: You’d always had brief glimpses of Charlie Weasley throughout your life, but despite your closeness with the rest of the Weasley family and your friendship with the Weasley Twins, you had never officially met. Until Charlie Weasley decided to take the summer off from his work as a Dragon Keeper at the Romanian Reserve and come back home, to the Burrow, that is.
Notes: Gif is my own, using my art of Charlie Weasley which you can find on my art blog @artisticwarnug here. If you use please make sure you credit me and my art blog properly, that the ownership is clear as it is my own art and I would hate for it to be unclear that I made it <3 x
Reader was a Hufflepuff in school but it probably won’t be mentioned that much!
Prologue
After the war you’d found it harder and harder to spend long periods of time with your family. Not only were you working and living within a magical world that they were not a part of, but they didn’t know of the war or understand the true trauma of the experience for you and most of the wizarding community. You’d lost one of your best friends...Fred wasn’t coming back and your family had no idea that any of it even occurred. You’d seen your own friend alive one minute, and dead the next. Nothing could quite compare to the feeling, like choking on your own breath. Like drowning.
As a result you not only lived with the Weasley’s, Molly protesting whenever you tried to pay her money (you had Bill help you put some into their vault anyway, feeling the need to give them something for their kindness), but spent most of your holidays there as well, rarely returning home for Christmas, Easter, or the summer time. As much as you loved your family you struggled to be around them and they didn’t understand you either.
In your grief you’d found that helping others made it easier, or at least helped you forget the feelings of guilt and grief that sat so heavy in your stomach. Helping George get back on his feet, helping Lee get his enthusiasm back, helping Mrs Weasley with dinner and around the house, helping everyone just seemed to make it easier to handle. That and working relatively long hours as a healer at St. Mungo’s often took your mind off of the war and what had been lost. You often chose to hide your feelings from the war behind Hufflepuff cheer. But, sometimes you wished someone would notice. You didn’t blame them for not, everyone had their own problems, your remaining best friends most of all. Grief and running a business took much attention.
You woke up that Saturday morning fully aware that you should get out of bed, but that you didn’t want to. It wasn’t a particularly important Saturday, no plans had been made, no work to be done, no visitors expected. Yet, it would turn out to be a Saturday that completely changed your whole life.
Since moving into the Burrow, 2 years prior, you had been staying in Fred and George’s old room, seeing as George lived above the Flat. You had spent the first few weeks simply making sure the room was safe, the twins had left many pranks around their room, but also all sorts of potion ingredients. You’d packed everything up and taken it to the Flat...It had been hard, going through all their childhood things with George. Hard for you, but harder for George. Years on and George was doing better, but you knew he still didn’t feel complete, like something was missing. But he slept better, stopped having nightmares, and generally seemed to have some of his old cheer back. It helped that Angelina was there for him as well. He was moving on and growing happier each day.
The few things that you had been given by the Weasley family included clothes. At first it had been odd, being given some of Bill or Charlie or George’s old clothes to wear to bed or around the house. But, that had gone away quite quickly considering the oversized quidditch jerseys, jumpers, and shirts, were incredibly comfortable. Bill’s fit most snug, being a plump woman, with wide hips and a stomach, and Bill being one of the lankier of the Weasley’s. George and Charlie’s clothes fit much larger on you, however, seeing as they were some of the broader, stockier Weasley’s. It still surprised you that Charlie had been a seeker and not a beater.
The night previous you’d gone to bed in Charlie’s old quidditch jersey and a pair of pajama trousers with little snitches on, that had previously belonged to George. The trousers were much too long on you, covering your feet, and the Jersey while it clung to your hips was loose in every other aspect. It was a pairing that you enjoyed simply for its comfort. It was not something the Weasley’s even blinked at or questioned, after all you’d been gifted the clothes and had been wearing them for the last few years. So you hadn’t really thought twice, as you stumbled out of bed, feet hitting the powder stained floor, about going to breakfast as you were.
You yawned loudly, covering your mouth with your hand, as you walked into the kitchen, not really taking in which Weasley’s were at the table, being much too tired to do so.
“Morning” You sighed out as you grabbed a plate and collected your breakfast, Mrs Weasley having already placed dishes of eggs, toast, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, and sausages out on the dining table.
“Good morning, dear!” Mrs Weasley called back, followed by a variety of familiar Weasley voices, and one that you did not recognise, that gave you pause.
You wouldn’t say you were mortified to look up from your breakfast and realise that Charlie Weasley, the very attractive Charlie Weasley, was sitting in front of you, with an amused half smile and a raised eyebrow. But, you certainly were mildly embarrassed, simply because you were not exactly dressed for introductions and you were almost certain that you had a million knots in your hair.
“Uh, hello...” You wave awkwardly, a little stinted, with an embarrassed smile.
“Hello, love. I see mum finally gave away my jersey” You’re certain that Charlie is trying not to laugh, although you don’t feel hurt by this fact. Much like the rest of the Weasley’s Charlie comes across as laughing with you rather than at you.
“I can...you can have it back, I...”
“It’s alright, looks better on you than it does on me. Might be a tad small for me now actually.” You relax at his easy going manner about it. You were sure it would be a little weird for the second oldest Weasley to finally meet someone while said someone was wearing his clothes. But, apparently not.
“Y/N, right? I don’t think we’ve properly met?”
It had been two years since you’d last seen Charlie Weasley, that had been at Fred’s funeral and you’d not really taken much notice of him at the time. You had been, naturally, more concerned with and consumed by your own grief and the proceedings before you.
You’d forgotten how handsome Charlie was. With broad shoulders and deep red hair, pulled back into a ponytail. Charlie was by far the most freckled of the Weasley’s with dense freckles across his face and sharp jaw, down his neck, and over his arms. The last time you’d seen Charlie he’d been dressed in a full suit, covered head to toe, the time before that he’d been a teenager, now you realised that he had a tattoo that you had never previously seen. It was a beautiful tattoo, a welsh green on his neck that twisted its head and puffed smoke from its nostrils.
“We haven’t, just crossed paths, here and there. Surprising, really.”
“Considering you are not only friends with my brothers...” he pauses just a moment, before correcting himself, “brother, and have been living here, yeah, just a little surprising. Hufflepuff, right?”
“Yeah, managed to make Head Girl in the end, much to...much to Fred and George’s delight.” It was still odd wanting to mention them both, but realising that one of them wasn’t around anymore. But, it was true, Fred and George had teased you for weeks, over the fact that you, best friend to the biggest pranksters at Hogwarts, managed to make Head Girl. “Are you still working at the reserve in Romania?”
“Yeah, thought I'd be head keeper by now...but...”
“Bad boss?”
“He’s not bad, but we don’t see eye to eye when it comes to the dragons.” You raise an eyebrow, curious for him to continue. You’d never really been especially good at Care of Magical Creatures but that didn’t mean it wasn’t fascinating to you. “He wants to commercialise the reserve, make it a place people can come visit rather than a place for us to keep the dragons from the Muggles. Daft really, dragons’ll sooner eat a bunch of tourists than sit pretty for them.”
“The reserves aren’t supposed to be tourist attractions though...why would...surely that’s dangerous and also not exactly fair on the dragons?”
“Oh, it’s definitely dangerous, it takes multiple keepers to restrain a dragon and the dragons aren’t exactly in cages on the reserve like a muggle zoo. Luckily he hasn’t gone through with the idea...yet.” He frowns in a way that tells you he suspects it’ll happen anyway and his tone suggests irritation with the situation. You’re sure for someone who loves dragons so much and wants them to be kept away from muggles and left to their own devices, it must be terribly frustrating.
There’s a beat of silence as you continue eating. You feel a little awkward, although that certainly isn’t Charlie’s fault. It’s made worse by the sensation of Mrs Weasley’s eyes on the two of you. You were more than aware that Mrs Weasley’s one goal in life since the war had been to marry off each of her children, you included in that. Ginny had since been dating Harry, Ron was with Hermione, George was with Angelina, Bill was already married and Percy...you weren’t sure about Percy.  But, that left Charlie as the oldest single Weasley child, and yourself...still not dating much to Molly’s dismay. She was constantly asking you if you’d met anyone lately.
“You’re a healer right?”
“At St. Mungo’s, on the Dai Llewellyn Ward for Serious Bites, although I'm often dragged away if someone's had a few too many hexes that have interacted poorly.”
“Ever had any dragon bites?”
“Once, a Peruvian Vipertooth, lady was in a right state for a while. Came out the other end though.”
“Nasty bites, aggressive little buggers. You’d probably have a field day on the reserve the amount of bites and burns we have each day.” At that Charlie lifted his own arms to show an array of burn scars and old bite marks. Some had healed well, others less so.
You pointed at one, “Looks like you avoided seeing the healer.” You raise an eyebrow and make the face you learnt from Madam Pomphrey, the one that explicitly says you disapprove of avoiding proper medical care. You’d spent a great deal of time with Poppy not just because of the twins but also because she’d helped you prepare for your healer training.
He lets out a slightly nervous laugh and looks away from you, red rushing up his neck in traditional Weasley fashion at being caught, “Didn’t want to bother anyone, it wasn’t serious. No need to worry, love.” You grab his arm and pull it closer to get a closer look. Trying to ignore the fact he had very strong forearms and incredibly warm skin.
Working on the Serious Bites Ward meant that you had a good eye for bite marks and what might have made them. Some dragons had very distinct bite marks. A Peruvian Viper Tooth had a different set of teeth to a Hungarian Horntail for instance.
“Ukranian Ironbelly, right? Young one, by the looks of it.”
“Just a baby really, got a bit over excited is all. Hurt like a bludger to the head though.”
“You should always see the reserve healer, you know? You could get a serious infection from a bite like this.” You let go of his arm and lean back in your chair, arms crossed, fixing him with the same look again.
“I would if our healer was as nice as you. He’s got the personality of a fire crab who’s had its tail yanked.” You try not to take the compliment as more than it is.
“Grumpy and explosive?” You knew a few healers like that. They didn’t exactly have the best bedside manner and it made many a witch or wizard reluctant to seek treatment.
“Exactly. Augustus Pye still working on the ward? He tried to give dad stitches that time...”
“Yes...” You sigh, it wasn’t that Augustus was a horrible person to work with so to speak, but you’d had a few awkward encounters with him when you’d first started working on the ward.
“You don’t sound happy about that?”
“There’s nothing wrong with the man...he just...it's a very small ward you see and he may have...there were a few times where...”
“He asked her out on a date and she said no and embarrassed the poor bastard.” George’s voice comes from behind you with a laugh, before he takes the seat besides you. You’d been flattered, really you had, but, Augustus wasn’t someone you were particularly attracted to. Not physically, nor intellectually nor in regard to his personality. He was nice...but that was just it. You hadn’t expected to go into work and be asked on a date, either, it had been all a bit of a shock really...you hadn’t gotten a great deal of romantic attention in school. Being a big girl meant that boys were more inclined to tease you than date you. Not that you were upset about that, teenage boys were the worst.
“Thank you, George. I obviously couldn’t disclose that myself.” You roll your eyes
“I still don’t know how you did it, you’re far too nice to say no to anyone.”
“I...” You look at all the curious eyes watching you, feeling a wave of genuine embarrassment as you realise you’re going to have to tell them the truth...that you’d really struggled to say no and had instead, “told him I was already seeing someone, I didn’t want to hurt his feelings!” You protest as George lets out a loud laugh next to you.
“It’s not funny, George! I was very flattered but...I didn’t want to tell him he was just...meh! How do you let someone down nicely? At least this way he thinks it's because i’m already taken not because I find him lacklustre!”
“Just say it. You don’t find him attractive, you don’t want him to ravage you in the store room, it’s not that hard. You do know you’re an adult and not thirteen, right?”
You let out an unhappy moan as you let your face fall into your hands at George’s teasing.
“George Weasley!” You hear Molly scold him about talking about private matters such as ‘ravaging’ and teasing you so much, before turning her attention to you. “It’s okay not to like someone, dear, you don’t have to lie to save someone else’s feelings. Although, it would have been lovely for you to go on a date...it’s been a while, dear.”
“Mum.” Charlie gave his mother a look which you knew too well, many of the Weasley children had given their mother that exact same look whenever she tried to encourage them to find a date. It was a relief to have someone else tell her to leave well enough alone. You loved Mrs Weasley dearly, but you’d rather date someone you wanted to rather than date someone simply to please her.
“Oh, alright. Charlie, I need you and Ron to degnome the garden, you too George since you’re here. Y/N, dear, could you water the vegetables in the garden today?”
“Of course, Molly.” You’d long since learnt not to call her Mrs Weasley to her face. Molly hated any of her ‘adopted children’ calling her Mrs Weasley, Harry and Hermione still hadn’t quite gotten out of the habit yet though. Much to Molly’s dismay.
After much more teasing from George and a shy goodbye to Charlie, you rushed up the stairs to get ready for the day. A day that might very well end with Charlie Weasley being the death of you, death by embarrassment that is.

StackedNatural Day 7: 5x03, 6x01
StackedNatural Masterpost: [x]
September 24, 2021
5x03: Free to Be You and Me
Written by: Jeremy Carver
Directed by: J. Miller Tobin
Original air date: September 24, 2009
Plot Synopsis:
Sam decides to stop hunting but has a hard time after he receives a surprise visit. Dean and Castiel try to find the Archangel Raphael in their bid to stop the Apocalypse.
Features:
“Personal space”, the tie fix and the badge flip, explicit substance abuse parallels that will be dropped when inconvenient to the plot, the infamous brothel scene, Raphael's lightning wings, God is an absent father, Sam as Lucifer’s vessel.
My Thoughts:
First multiple episode day!
CLASSIC EPISODE. I rewatched this one pretty recently but it’s fun to watch it in the context of stacked! Absolutely love that we get to watch Sam meet Lucifer for the first time immediately after watching Sam have his first hallucination of Lucifer in Meet the New Boss yesterday.
This is definitely one of the big Destiel episodes of the early seasons. I forgot that Dean buttoning up Cas’ shirt and fixing his tie, the upside down badge, and the entire brothel scene all happen in the same episode. WHAT a gift to me personally, thank you Jeremy Carver.
I have never once been able to watch the whole brothel scene without laughing out loud. The absolute desperate gay panic on Cas’ face the entire time is hysterical. The fact that Cas mentioned Chastity’s dad and her reaction was to scream like she was being stabbed to death. Hers being the first mention of absent fathers in an episode explicitly paralleling Dean and Cas’ relationship with their missing dads. Triangulation of desire between Dean, Cas, and Chastity if you squint hard enough (or at least in retrospect with November 5th being A Thing That Happened).
Cas’ little smile in the alley while Dean laughs is so precious, and correct me if I’m wrong but I think it’s the first time we see that kind of expression on his face? He’s pretty stoic in season 4 from what I remember.
The two best portrayals of angel wings in this entire show are Cas’ first appearance and Raphael’s lightning wings in this episode. The whole Raphael scene has immaculate vibes. The lighting, the directing, the acting, all off the charts.
It’s so early in their relationship but Dean deciding that he has Cas’ back in his search for God. First instance of capital-F Faith that Dean has displayed. I cry.
Sam’s struggle to maintain his bodily autonomy is so tasty in this episode, it brings me back to my Samgirl days. It’s such a good narrative choice to have Lucifer so casually say he’ll bring him back to life if he kills himself right after he had demon blood literally forced into his mouth. Also, can we talk about the hypocrisy of Lucifer saying that he’ll never trick or lie to Sam when five minutes ago he was pretending to be Sam’s dead girlfriend? That’s fucked, dude.
I was finished writing this part and checking my quotes and the blocking notes after Dean and Cas’ last conversation in the transcript got to me: “DEAN looks over; the shotgun seat is empty. His smile falters.”
Notable/Kickass Lines:
“You knew there was something dark inside of you. Deep down, maybe, but you knew. Maybe that's what got me killed. I was dead from the moment we said hello.”
“So, what, I'm Thelma and you're Louise and we're just going to hold hands and sail off this cliff together?”
“When humans want something really, really bad, we lie.”
“There are two things I know for certain. One, Bert and Ernie are gay. Two, you are not gonna die a virgin. Not on my watch.”
“God? Didn’t you hear? He’s dead, Castiel. Dead.”
“Maybe one day. But today, you’re my little bitch.”
“I've had more fun with you in the past twenty-four hours than I've had with Sam in years, and you're not that much fun.”
Laura’s (completely subjective) Episode Rating: 9.8
IMdB rating: 8.6
------------------------------------
6x01: Exile on Main St.
Written by: Sera Gamble
Directed by: Phil Sgriccia
Original air date: September 24, 2010
Plot Synopsis:
Sam is mysteriously released from Hell and seeks out his brother, who is trying to have a normal life. Together the brothers must join forces with their maternal grandfather, Samuel, and begin the fight anew.
Features:
Dean pretends to be a PTA dad, Dean almost kills a yorkie, the Campbell Family Business, an abrupt change in the djinn lore for plot convenience.
My Thoughts:
I know that Dean is a good liar because it’s a necessary part of being a hunter but it is almost tragic how easy it is for him to lie to Lisa and how easily she accepts it. I think she knows he's lying but just doesn't really care.
Obviously in this episode he isn’t actually happy but I still got super pissed halfway through thinking about how they’ve been telling us for TEN YEARS that what he really wanted was to settle down with a family and then. You know. Rebar.
Seeing him pull out John’s old leather jacket gave me visceral flashbacks (flash-forwards?) to Cas’ trenchcoat in the trunk of the Impala. He really just carries around the coats of people who have abandoned him, huh?
I remembered the salient points of this episode (Sam, the Campbells) but completely forgot what happened in the monster plot so the Azazel jumpscare got me, haha. Also fully forgot that Bobby had known Sam was alive and didn’t tell Dean and I felt so betrayed personally. So miserable for Dean that he got what he wanted and all it did was make him more unhappy. Watching this back-to-back with Free to Be You and Me was whiplash. He was so much happier hanging out with Cas hours away from almost certain death than he is with Lisa or when Sam comes back from the dead. They didn’t even hug!! Dean, that’s your brotherson! Come on!
I like the soulless Sam arc. He’s just off enough from previous seasons to be eerie but it isn’t overplayed. The Campbells are annoying as hell though. I know it’s on purpose and they’re supposed to be irritating but like. Stop microaggressing my favourite boy! Let him play golf!
This is kind of a bummer episode but the thing that made me saddest was watching his nightmare hallucination of Ben drinking Azazel’s blood and thinking “oh no, his biggest fear is losing another son to demon blood”. :(.
Notable/Kickass Lines:
“You wanted a family. You have for a long time, maybe the whole time.”
“My God, you have delicate features for a hunter.”
“I should've known that if I stayed with you that something would come, because something always does. But I was stupid and reckless and...You can't outrun your past.”
“You know, you had ancestors hacking the heads off vamps on the Mayflower.”
Laura’s (completely subjective) Episode Rating: 7.4
IMdB rating: 7.8
In Conclusion: Trying to find time to watch 2 episodes today was tricky. I am anticipating a lot of late nights in October and November when we hit 4 episodes a day regularly. RIP.

Picks & Pens (I)
Hi! This is a brand new series for our boy Sirius Black. It’s a rockstar!au in modern days. I really hope you like it, I had the idea over a year ago and had a little something in my drafts but only now got to write it the way it deserves. Enjoy!
Chapter One: Press
Warnings: language
Word count: 1,7k
a/n: I know nothing about press or the music industry, so forgive me for any mistakes lol
Tumblr media
Sirius Black. What a perfect name for the typical arrogant and condescending rockstar who had just been declared artist of the decade by the magazine you worked for. Unfortunately for you, he also happened to be your ex-boyfriend.
You two had met in high school, way before he got famous. He already wrote music back then, you being one of the very first people to ever listen to it. Some of those songs were quite big hits today and you genuinely liked them, but that didn’t mean you liked him. At least, not anymore. Your relationship had ceased to exist seven years ago. What is it that people say about fame? Oh yes, it changes you.
As you walked past the countless desks in that white-walled office with tall windows, the latest edition of the magazine in hands, you thought about your boss’ proposition. She wanted you to interview the “artist of the decade” for the February issue – it was coming out on Valentine’s Day and she wanted an article about Sirius Black’s muse and writing process. According to her, it was impossible that there wasn’t a girl behind the lyrics of his songs, even though the man had been single for years now. You had told her you’d think about it and answer the next day. Well, today was the next day.
Brenda, your boss’ assistant, was on the phone when you approached her desk. She raised a finger at you as if to say “hold on” and kept talking to the person at the other end of that call. You knew better than to interrupt her, so you patiently waited.
“No freaking way, Rebecca! I told you he was going to the party regardless of what Charlie said! Now, don’t get me wrong, I think you’re much smarter than Mackenzie, but she’s got a point.”
You inhaled deeply, fighting the urge to roll your eyes. Was it naive of you to assume that people only took business calls during business hours?
“I’m wheezing! Literally dying! Oh God...” Brenda giggled. “Well, I gotta go. I’m at work. What? Bitch, you called.”
You watched as she hung up the phone and gathered some loose sheets of paper from her desk, organizing them in a pile.
“Brenda?” you said, catching her attention. “I’m here to see Mrs. Lennox. Could you announce me?”
“She’s busy.”
“Uhh… She asked me to come by her office at ten and it’s… ten.”
Brenda sighed and picked up the phone again, pressing the interphone button. “Mrs. Lennox? Sorry to bother, but Y/N says she’s here to see you. Yes. Not a problem. Okay.”
She hung up and went back to putting her sheets into piles. You raised an eyebrow at her before she finally looked at you and spoke as if it was obvious. “Go in!”
Was it unprofessional to flip off a coworker?
You opened the door slowly and found Mrs. Lennox sitting by her desk with her eyes focused on her computer screen. She looked at you and smiled, gesturing for you to come see what she was working on.
“These photos just came in. Look at him! Isn’t he just so handsome?!”
And there he was. His signature guitar lazily laying between his legs as he had one hand resting on it and the other supporting his weight. He was sitting on a white… box-shaped stool? The background was also white, contrasting to his all-black outfit.
“I think I want these in black and white, what do you think?”
“There isn’t much color in them anyways,” you though out loud.
“Oh…” Mrs. Lennox eyed the entire picture. “You’re right. Black and white it is,” she wrote it down on her notepad.
You kept looking at the photo displayed across the large computer screen. The little shit was handsome, there was no denying that. The problem was what was behind that smirk – arrogance, selfishness and a big big sense of self-importance.
“So?!” your boss’ voice snapped you out of your memories. “Have you thought about our conversation yesterday?”
“I have,” you walked around the desk and sat in front of the older woman as she took off her red cat-eye glasses. “But I need to ask you something first.”
“Go ahead.”
“Will it bring attention to the fact that I am his ex-girlfriend?”
“What do you mean, sweetie? Everyone already knows.”
“I know, but… will it be focused on that? Yesterday you mentioned that it’d be great to have some sort of reunion and that the public would love it. Your idea is an intimate interview, just the two of us in the room and all.”
“Yes...”
“I understand it. I agree that the conversation flows better that way, because the interviewees usually feel more comfortable with less people around and no cameras. However, this is my job. Just my job. I don’t want it to be publicized as a reunion with my ex-boyfriend. This is me, a journalist, interviewing him, a musician.”
Mrs. Lennox looked at you for a while, as if she was trying to read your thoughts. She placed her hands together on the desk and took a deep breath.
“Listen, Y/N. I’ve got to be honest with you. The subject that will be discussed in this interview is interesting, yes. A lot of people are curious about his lyrics. Myself included. But frankly? Anyone can ask him questions about that and put it on a website or a magazine. Anyone. Would it sell? Of course! He’s the artist of the decade, everyone adores him. Now, imagine if the person interviewing him is actually a former girlfriend. And not any girlfriend, but his high school sweetheart. The girlfriend from the very beginning of his career. The person who was there when some of the biggest songs of this entire decade were being written. It will sell like water in the desert, Y/N! This is really good for press.”
“So this is why you picked me, of all people. Press,” you looked down and bit your inner cheek. “I’m a journalist, Mrs. Lennox.” You looked back at her, “I am part of the press. And I know how they will eat me alive after this interview. They will chase me around, paps will hunt me everywhere. The whole nightmare will start all over again. Even after seven years, I still get the occasional question about him. After this interview, though? There will be no peace. And, as a matter of fact, I’m not quite sure if I like the idea of having my personal life used as marketing. God, I’m not even sure if I do want to ‘reunite’ with him.”
“I see,” Mrs. Lennox leaned back on her chair. “What is your answer, then?”
You looked in her eyes, thinking about the last three years you worked for her magazine. She was by far the best boss you’ve ever had. She took you under her wing and gave you enough space to explore your full potential and truly shine. She bent backwards for you several times in the past, helping you build your name in journalism. There was nothing in this world that she could ask that would make you think twice before attending. Nothing, except this.
However, there was a side of you that wanted to see him again. To speak to him again. Hear him talk again. A very curious side of you, that needed to see how he would act around you after so many years of no contact. Would he treat you like every other interviewer? Would he be as self-absorbed and pompous? Would he answer to your questions truthfully? That side of you would die to find out.
And that side won. Along with all the respect you had for your boss and the extra payment she offered the day before, of course.
“My answer is yes. I will interview him.”
Mrs. Lennox smiled widely, but before she could say anything, you added. “Under one condition.”
“Oh, Y/N. What is it?”
“It won’t get publicized as a reunion. Please, Mrs. Lennox, don’t publish it with something like ‘Sirius Black interviewed by former girlfriend’. Just put my name in there and let the press do their thing around it. That’s all I ask. Please.”
Mrs. Lennox eyed you for a while, just like before. She always seemed to crave the power to read minds, maybe even control them. She bit her lower lip and adjusted her wedding ring, looking down at her notepad now.
“Well, it does look good to treat it like it’s so casual. Like you’re still friends and it’s no big deal. You did end things amicably, after all.”
Right…
“Okay, Y/N,” she nodded. “It will be just your name, no mentions of the relationship.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Lennox.”
“Right. Look, Y/N, this interview is very important for us. Please, keep that in mind. I expect a really good show of professionalism on your part. The subject might be delicate to deal with, given your past, but I trust that you won’t leave out any details pertinent to the writing of this article.”
“You have nothing to worry about. The subject won’t be delicate at all.”
You hoped you didn’t sound insulted, because you did feel your ears burn slightly with the insinuation that you might care if he wrote songs about some other girl. You absolutely did not. It’s been seven fucking years.
“Great. That settles it, then. I will look into scheduling this interview now,” she clicked on her mouse and put her red cat-eye glasses back on. “I am predicting it will take place within two weeks from now, so no trips out of town during this time!”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“You can go back to work now, sweetie. If anything comes up, I’ll e-mail you.”
“Okay,” you stood up and grabbed your latest edition of the magazine, remembering why you had brought it in the first place. “Oh! By the way, there’s a typo on page forty-five of the January issue. Printing started this morning, so I think there’s still time to fix it before we lose too much material.”
“Y/N! What would I do without you?! Page forty-five, you say?” she immediately wrote it down on her notepad. “I knew I couldn’t trust Henry on this.”
“He’s a good kid,” you shrugged. “He’ll get the hang of it.”
“Right, right… Ask Brenda to call him on your way out, will you?”
“Of course,” you nodded, already feeling bad for Henry’s ears.
The next couple of weeks were going to be interesting, though.

Chapter 4 part 1
It took an endless moment to realize jauregui and I were still alone in the room, that the voice I’d heard had come through a speaker. Jauregui stood at the far end of the sofa, flushed and scowling, her chest heaving. Her tie was loosened and the fly of her slacks strained against a very impressive erection.
I had a nightmare vision in my head of what I must look like. And I was late getting back to work.
“Christ.” she shoved both hands through her hair. “It’s the middle of the fucking day. In my goddamn fucking office!”
I got to my feet and tried to straighten my appearance.
“Here.” she came to me, yanking my skirt up again.Mortified by the sudden intrusion into our privacy, I scrambled up and back into the armrest, yanking down my skirt.
“…two o’clock appointment is here.”
Furious at what I’d almost let happen when I should be at work, I smacked at her hands. “Stop it. Leave me alone.”
“Shut up, Camila,” she said grimly, catching the hem of my black silk blouse and tugging it into place, adjusting it so that the buttons once again formed a straight row between my breasts. Then she pulled down my skirt, smoothing it with calm, expert hands. “Fix your ponytail.”
Jauregui retrieved her coat, shrugging into it before adjusting her tie. We reached the door at the same time and when I crouched to fetch my purse, she lowered with me.
she caught my chin, forcing me to look at her. “Hey,” she said softly. “You okay?”
My throat burned. I was aroused and mad and thoroughly embarrassed. I’d never in my life lost my mind like that. And I hated that I’d done so with her, a woman whose approach to sexual intimacy was so clinical it depressed me just thinking about it.
I jerked my chin away. “Do I look okay?”
“You look beautiful and fuckable. I want you so badly it hurts. I’m dangerously close to taking you back to the couch and making you come ’til you beg me to stop.”
“Can’t accuse you of being silver-tongued,” I muttered, aware that I wasn’t offended. In fact, the rawness of her hunger for me was a serious aphrodisiac. Clutching the strap of my purse, I stood on shaky legs. I needed to get away from her. And, when my workday was done, I needed to be alone with a big glass of wine.
Jauregui stood with me. “I’ll be done by five. I’ll come get you then.”
“No, you won’t. This doesn’t change anything.”
“The hell it doesn’t.”
“Don’t be arrogant, Jauregui. I lost my head for a second, but I still don’t want what you want.”
Her fingers curled around the door handle. “Yes, you do. You just don’t want it the way I want to give it to you. So, we’ll revisit and revise.”
More business. Cut-and-dried. My spine stiffened.
I set my hand over her and yanked on the handle, ducking under her arm to squeeze out the door. Her secretary shoved quickly to his feet, gaping, as did the woman and two men who were waiting for Jauregui. I heard her speak behind me.
“Scott will show you into my office. I’ll be just a moment.”
she caught me by reception, her arm crossing my lower back to grip my hip. Not wanting to make a scene, I waited until we were by the elevators to pull away.
she stood calmly and hit the call button. “Five o’clock, Camila.”
I stared at the lighted button. “I’m busy.”
“Tomorrow, then.”
“I’m busy all weekend.”
Stepping in front of me, she asked tightly, “With whom?”
“That’s none of your—”
Her hand covered my mouth. “Don’t. Tell me when, then. And before you say never, take a good look at me and tell me if you see a woman who’s easily deterred.”
Her face was hard, her gaze narrowed and determined. I shivered. I wasn’t sure I’d win a battle of wills withLauren jauregui.
Swallowing, I waited until she lowered her hand and said, “I think we both need to cool off. Take a couple days to think.”
she persisted. “Monday after work.”
The elevator arrived and I stepped into it. Facing her, I countered, “Monday lunch.”
We’d have only an hour, a guaranteed escape.
Just before the doors closed, shesaid, “We’re going to happen, Camila.”
It sounded as much like a threat as a promise.
___
“Don’t sweat it, Camila,” Mark said, when I arrived at my desk nearly a quarter after two. “You didn’t miss anything. I had a late lunch with Mr. Leaman. I just barely got back myself.”
“Thank you.” No matter what he said, I still felt terrible. My kick-ass Friday morning seemed to have happened days ago.
We worked steadily until five, discussing a fast-food client and contemplating some possible tweaks to ad copy for a chain of organic grocery stores.
“Talk about strange bedfellows,” Mark had teased, not knowing how apt that was in regard to my personal life.
I’d just shut down my computer and was pulling my purse out of the drawer when my phone rang. I glanced at the clock, saw it was exactly five, and considered ignoring the call because I was technically done for the day.
But since I was still feeling shitty about my overly-long lunch, I considered it penance and answered. “Mark Garrity’s—”
“Camila honey. Richard says you forgot your cell phone at his office.”
I exhaled in a rush and sagged back into my chair. I could picture the handkerchief wringing that usually accompanied that particular anxious tone of my mother’s. It drove me nuts and it also broke my heart. “Hi, Mom. How are you?”
“Oh, I’m lovely. Thank you.” My mom had a voice that was both girlish and breathy, like Marilyn Monroe crossed with Scarlett Johansson. “Clancy dropped your phone off with the concierge at your place. You really shouldn’t go anywhere without it. You never know when you might need to call for someone—”
I’d been debating the logistics of just keeping the phone and forwarding calls to a new number I didn’t share with my mom, but that wasn’t my biggest concern. “What does Dr. Petersen say about you tracing my phone?”
The silence on the other end of the line was telling. “Dr. Petersen knows I worry about you.”
Pinching the bridge of my nose, I said, “I think it’s time for us to have another joint appointment, Mom.”
“Oh…of course. He did mention that he’d like to see you again.”
Probably because he suspects you’re not being forthcoming. I changed the subject. “I really like my new job.”
“That’s wonderful, Camila! Is your boss treating you well?”
“Yes, he’s great. I couldn’t ask for anyone better.”
“Is he handsome?”
I smiled. “Yes, very. And he’s taken.”
“Damn it. The good ones always are.” she laughed and my smile widened.
I loved it when she was happy. I wished she were happy more often. “I can’t wait to see you tomorrow at the advocacy dinner.”
Sinuhe Cabello Barker Mitchell Stanton was in her element at society functions, a gilded shining beauty who’d never lacked male attention in her life.
“Let’s make a day of it,” my mom said breathlessly. “You, me, and Cary. We’ll go to the spa, get pretty and polished. I’m sure you could use a massage after working so hard.”
“I won’t turn one down, that’s for sure. And I know Cary will love it.”
“Oh, I’m excited! I’ll send a car by your place around eleven?”
“We’ll be ready.”
After I hung up, I leaned back in my chair and exhaled, needing a hot bath and an orgasm. If Lauren Jauregui somehow found out I masturbated while thinking about her, I didn’t care. Being sexually frustrated was weakening my position, a weakness I knew she wouldn't be sharing. No doubt she’d have a preapproved orifice lined up before day’s end.
As I swapped out my heels for my walking shoes, my phone rang again. My mother was rarely distracted for long. The five minutes since we’d ended our call was just about the right length of time for her to realize the cell phone issue hadn’t been resolved. Once again, I debated ignoring the phone, but I didn’t want to take any of the day’s crap home with me.
I answered with my usual greeting, but it lacked its usual punch.
“I’m still thinking about you.”
The velvet rasp of jauregui's voice flooded me with such relief I realized I’d been hoping to hear it again. Today.
God. The craving was so acute I knew she’d become a drug to my body, the prime source of some very intense highs.
“I can still feel you, camila. Still taste you. I’ve been hard since you left, through two meetings and one teleconference. You’ve got the advantage, state your demands.”
“Ah,” I murmured. “Lemme think.”
I let her wait, smiling as I remembered Cary’s comment about blue balls. “Hmm…Nothing is coming to mind. But I do have some friendly advice. Go spend time with a woman who salivates at your feet and makes you feel like a god. Fuck her until neither of you can walk. When you see me on Monday you’ll be totally over it and your life will return to its usual obsessive-compulsive order.”
The creak of leather sounded over the phone and I imagined her leaning back in her desk chair. “That was your one free pass, Camila. The next time you insult my intelligence, I’ll take you over my knee.”
“I don’t like that sort of thing.” And yet the warning, given in that voice, aroused me. Dark and Dangerous for sure.
“We’ll discuss. In the interim, tell me what you do like.”
I stood. “You definitely have the voice for phone sex, but I’ve got to go. I have a date with my vibrator.”
I should’ve hung up then, to gain the full effect of the brush-off, but I couldn’t resist learning if he’d gloat like I had imagined she would. Plus, I was having fun with her.
“Oh, Camila.” Jauregui spoke my name in a decadent purr. “You’re determined to drive me to my knees, aren’t you? What will it take to talk you into a threesome with B.O.B.?”
I ignored both questions as I slung my bag and purse over my shoulder, grateful she couldn't see how my hand shook. I was not discussing Battery Operated Boyfriends withLauren Jauregui. I’d never discussed masturbation openly with a woman or man, let alone a woman who was for all intents and purposes a stranger to me. “B.O.B. and I have a longtime understanding—when we’re done with each other, we know exactly which one of us has been used, and it isn’t me. Good night, Lauren.”
I was so grateful to be home after the day I’d had that I practically danced through my apartment’s front door. My heartfelt “God, it’s good to be home!” and accompanying spin was vehement enough to startle the couple on the couch.
“Oh,” I said, wincing at my own silliness. Cary wasn’t in a compromising position with his guest when I barged in, but they’d been sitting close enough to suggest intimacy.
Grudgingly, I thought of Lauren Jauregui, who preferred to strip all intimacy out of the most intimate act I could imagine. I’d had one-night stands and friends with benefits, and no one knew better than I that sex and making love were two very different things, but I didn’t think I’d ever be able to view sex like a handshake. I thought it was sad that Jauregui did, even though she wasn't a person who inspired pity or sympathy.
“Hey, baby girl,” Cary called out, pushing to his feet. “I was hoping you’d make it back before Trey had to leave.”
“I have class in an hour,” Trey explained, rounding the coffee table as I dropped my bag on the floor and put my purse on a barstool at the breakfast bar. “But I’m glad I got to meet you before I left.”
“Me, too.” I shook the hand he extended to me, taking him in with a quick glance. He was about my age, I guessed. Average height and nicely muscular. He had unruly blond hair, soft hazel eyes, and a nose that had clearly been broken at some point.
“Mind if I grab a glass of wine?” I asked. “It’s been a long day.”
“Go for it,” Trey replied.
“I’ll take one, too.” Cary joined us by the breakfast bar. He was wearing loose-fitting black jeans and an off-the-shoulder black sweater. The look was casual and elegant, and did a phenomenal job of offsetting his dark brown hair and emerald eyes.
I went to the wine fridge and pulled out a random bottle.
Trey shoved his hands in the pockets of his jeans and rocked back on his heels, talking quietly with Cary as I uncorked and poured.
The phone rang and I grabbed the handset off the wall. “Hello?”
“Hey, Camila? It’s Parker Smith.”
“Parker, hi.” I leaned my hip into the counter. “How are you?”
“I hope you don’t mind my calling. Your stepdad gave me your number.”
Gah. I’d had enough of Stanton for one day. “Not at all. What’s up?”
“Honestly? Everything’s looking up right now. Your stepdad is like my fairy godfather. He’s funding a few safety improvements to the studio and some much-needed upgrades. That’s why I’m calling. The studio’s going to be out of commission for the rest of the week. Classes will resume next Monday.”
I closed my eyes, struggling to tamp down a flare of exasperation. It wasn’t Parker’s fault that Stanton and my mom were overprotective control freaks. Clearly they didn’t see the irony of defending me while I was surrounded by people trained to do that very thing. “Sounds good. I can’t wait. I’m really excited to be training with you.”
“I’m excited, too. I’m going to work you hard, Camila. Your parents are going to get their money’s worth.”
I set a filled glass in front of Cary and took a big gulp out of my own. It never ceased to amaze me how much cooperation money could buy. But again, that wasn’t Parker’s fault. “No complaints here.”
“We’ll get started first thing next week. Your driver has the schedule.”
“Great. See you then.” I hung up and caught the glance Trey shot Cary when he thought neither of us was looking. It was soft and filled with a sweet yearning, and it reminded me that my problems could wait. “I’m sorry I caught you on the way out, Trey. Do you have time for pizza Wednesday night? I’d love to do more than say hi and bye.”
“I have class.” He gave me a regretful smile and shot another side-glance at Cary. “But I could come by on Tuesday.”
“That’d be great.” I smiled. “We could order in and have a movie night.”
“I’d like that.”
I was rewarded with the kiss Cary blew me as he headed to the door to show Trey out. When he returned to the kitchen he grabbed his wine and said, “All right. Spill it, Camila. You looked stressed.”
“I am,” I agreed, grabbing the bottle and moving into the living room.
“It’sLauren Jauregui, isn’t it?”
“Oh, yeah. But I don’t want to talk about her.” Although Lauren’s pursuit was exhilarating, hier goal sucked. “Let’s talk about you and Trey instead. How did you two meet?”
“I ran across him on a job. He’s working part time as a photographer’s assistant. Sexy, isn’t he?” His eyes were bright and happy. “And a real gentleman. In an old-school way.”
“Who knew there were any of those left?” I muttered before polishing off my first glass.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Nothing. I’m sorry, Cary. He seemed great, and he obviously digs you. Is he studying photography?”
“Veterinary medicine.”
“Wow. That’s awesome.”
“I think so, too. But forget about Trey for a minute. Talk about what’s bugging you. Get it out.”
I sighed. “My mom. she found out about my interest in Parker’s studio and now she’s freaking out.”
“What? How’d she find out? I swear I haven’t told anyone.”
“I know you didn’t. Never even crossed my mind.” Grabbing the bottle off the table, I refilled my glass. “Get this. She’s been tracking my cell phone.”
Cary’s brows rose. “Seriously? That’s…creepy.”
“I know, right? That’s what I told Stanton, but he doesn’t want to hear it.”
“Well, hell.” He ran a hand through his long bangs. “So what do you do?”
“Get a new phone. And meet with Dr. Petersen to see if he can’t talk some sense into her.”
“Good move. Turn it over to her shrink. So…is everything okay with your job? Do you still love it?”
“Totally.” My head fell back into the sofa cushions and my eyes closed. “My work and you are my lifesavers right now.”
What about the young hottie bazillionaire who wants to nail you? Come on, Camila. You know I’m dying here. What happened?”
I told him, of course. I wanted his take on it all. But when I finished, he was quiet. I lifted my head to look at him, and found him bright-eyed and biting his lip.
“Cary? What are you thinking?”
“I’m feeling kind of hot from that story.” He laughed and the warm, richly masculine sound swept a lot of my irritation away. “sHe’s got to be so confused right now. I would’ve paid money to see her face when you hit her with that bit she wanted to spank you over.”
“I can’t believe she said that.” Just remembering Jauregui’s voice when she made that threat had my palms damp enough to leave steam on my glass. “What the hell is she into?”
“Spanking’s not deviant. Besides, she was going for missionary on the couch, so she’s not averse to the basics.” He fell into the couch, a brilliant smile lighting up his handsome face. “You’re a huge challenge to a girl who obviously thrives on them. And she’s willing to make concessions to have you, which I’d bet she’s not used to. Just tell her what you want.”
I split the last of the wine between us, feeling marginally better with a bit of alcohol in my veins. What did I want? Aside from the obvious? “We’re totally incompatible.”
“Is that what you call what happened on her couch?”
“Cary, come on. Boil it down. shepicked me up off the lobby floor, and then asked me to fuck. That’s really it. Even a guy I take home from a bar has more going for him than that. Hey, what’s your name? Come here often? Who’s your friend? What are you drinking? Like to dance? Do you work around here?”
“All right, all right. I get it.” He set his glass down on the table. “Let’s go out. Hit a bar. Dance ’til we drop. Maybe meet some guys who’ll talk you up some.”
“Or at least buy me a drink.”
“Hey, Lauregui offered you one of those in her office.”
I shook my head and stood. “Whatever. Let me take a shower and we’ll go.”

The Old Guard (Laurel/Nyssa; M) - Part II
Ships: Laurel/Nyssa
Summary: Laurel Lance and Nyssa Raatko are happily married - and have been for centuries. Along with Helena Bertinelli, this immortal army follows their equally immortal leader, Dina Drake, in the fights that they think are right.
But after one of their comrades makes a fatal lapse in judgement, Laurel and Nyssa find themselves trapped in their very worst nightmare - captured, as nothing more than lab rats. Luckily, the team has also just found its newest member, Sarah Diggle, so maybe all isn’t lost.
A/N:  Happy New Year everyone! Gonna start out 2021 with a new chapter of this, and then all that will be left is a bit of smut :D
Read at AO3
At Fuller Pharmaceuticals, Laurel breathed a sigh of relief when the scientist finally walked away, frowning at his clipboard and adjusting his glasses with one gloved hand. Turning a little on her side, she looked across her to the bed next to hers, and even though Nyssa was hooked up to a million machines just like Laurel, it was a relief to see her awake again.
"Hey," Laurel said softly.
"Are you okay, hayati?" Nyssa asked with concern in her eyes. "Laurel? What are you thinking about?"
"Honestly, I was, uh, thinking about - simpler times. When it was just the two of us, and the biggest thing we had to worry about was reconciling being from wildly different worlds yet still finding each other…"
"Dearest," Nyssa said with a smile, "it is like I told Ms Diggle. Some people are just meant to find each other. One way or another. And I realise, Laurel, that we are in hellish circumstances right now. But you have to know - I made you a promise, to spend however many centuries, or decades, or weeks, or days, or hours or even seconds I have left in my life with you. I swore an oath to you that I don't plan on breaking. Not now. Not ever."
Laurel smiled back, revelling in how Nyssa’s face lit up as she did so. “You know I love you, right?”
“I do, my love, but I will never tire of hearing it.”
“Remember Malta, habibti?”
“What time in Malta?” Nyssa asked, and Laurel met her gaze and arched her eyebrow. Laurel couldn’t help but chuckle because she could pinpoint the exact point when it dawned on Nyssa what she meant. A faint rosy blush coloured Nyssa’s cheeks and Laurel sighed - because even where they were, with the flecks of blood scattered on her forehead and her mussed up hair there was no doubt that Nyssa Raatko was the most beautiful woman Laurel had ever seen. “Ah. That time in Malta.”
“I could really use that Hilton honeymoon suite right about now.”
“That would be nice. What was it you said? Or did I say it - that we weren’t gonna stop till we passed out?”
Laurel laughed. "It was me, definitely. I think we must have lasted… sixteen hours, if I recall correctly.” Nyssa smiled, shrugging nonchalantly. “What if… what if we said that - if we get out of here -”
“When we get out of here,” Nyssa said firmly.
“When we get out of here,” Laurel said softly, “we… try breaking that record?”
“You promise?”
“You want me to cross my heart?” Laurel was probably deflecting a bit now, to fight off the emotion that threatened to break over her at any moment with a shaky smile that she knew Nyssa could see right through.
“I love you,” Nyssa whispered, “and we will be fine. I promise.”
Laurel held onto that confession from her beloved as tightly as she could in her mind, as the scientist returned with even more invasive and painful tests. She kept in her screams for as long as she could, not because she was afraid of showing weakness but rather because she knew Nyssa couldn't bear to hear them - only after the fifth extraction, this one from Laurel's brain, there was nothing she could do to curb her agony as the needle pierced her temple. Laurel's screams prompted Nyssa's, prolonged when the scientist kept the needle in long after she had collected the tissue she needed.
It was only when Laurel's lungs felt like they were being rubbed raw from the inside that the scientist finally seemed done with her. But then Laurel was filled with horror at the sight of the scientist raising a fresh needle and looking for the right spot on Nyssa.
Desperately, Laurel wanted to tell the evil woman to fucking take her again, not to touch Nyssa, not to lay a hand on her or so help her God - but nothing came out of Laurel's mouth except for a strangled croaky sound.
Suddenly the double doors nearest them burst open, and Laurel was shocked to see Dina, a gunshot wound at her side, unconscious, and Helena, who looked shaken but otherwise unhurt.
"Shit," Laurel croaked.
"Dina!" Nyssa shouted.
Ignoring both of them, the soldiers manhandling Dina and Helena strapped them into the beds next to Laurel and Nyssa. The scientist was at Dina's side in an instant.
"I want her alive," said another voice, and Laurel squinted as Max Fuller stepped into her line of sight.
"I'll need an IV in her, and some antibiotics," the scientist said.
"Good," Fuller said, clapping his hands together like he was a child. "Good. Work fast - I expect results. Even from the dying one. Even if you have to carve slices from these fuckers to do it."
"This is not what was agreed," Helena said hotly. "None of this is -"
Laurel was sure in that moment that her heart thudded to a complete halt. "What the fuck did you just say?"
"I can explain," Helena said, but the pieces were already falling into place in Laurel's brain, and clearly in Nyssa's too.
"Oh, Helena," Nyssa said in a hushed tone. "Helena. What have you done?"
"I'll let you ladies talk this out while you still can," Fuller said with a smirk. "As for what was agreed - even if it wasn’t between you and Ms Waller, do I really strike you as a man to keep to my word?"
With that, Fuller sauntered out of the lab, and Nyssa struggled against her restraints. "You selfish piece of garbage, Helena!"
"Nyssa," Laurel said, "don't."
"No, Laurel - I will not sit here and watch you be tortured because our friend decided to betray us!"
"They tortured you?" Helena said, and while she spoke, Dina began to stir. The scientist was still in the midst of changing Dina's bandage, before hooking her up to an IV bag.
"Did you think Doctor Evil over here would make me a cup of tea?"
To her credit, the scientist did not comment on this, instead pulling off his gloves and walking away. Helena grunted and tried to sit up. "I'm sorry, okay? This wasn't how it was supposed to go -"
"Damn right it wasn't," Nyssa said. "I thought we were your family."
"I just wanted a way out, okay?"
"And in the process," Laurel said bitterly, "you found the boss's instead."
"I didn't know she wasn't healing," Helena said. "I wouldn't have shot her if I knew that -"
"You shot her? As if being a traitor isn't enough on its own?"
"Stop it," Dina said weakly, and she was clearly groggy and not fully lucid, but it was enough to quieten everyone for a moment.
"Boss, you still with us?" Laurel said. "Boss?"
"Still kicking," Dina said faintly. "But everything really fucking hurts."
"You're going to be okay," Nyssa said, as she always did - but Laurel wondered if that was possible given their circumstances.
"Oh, Nyssa," Dina said with the tiniest trace of a smile on her dull lips. "I say this with love, but you are a really shitty liar."
"I'm sorry, boss," Helena said. "If I knew -"
"- it wouldn't have changed a goddamn thing," Dina panted. "We both know that. More than anyone in this room."
Laurel took this in in silence. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"You and Nyssa always had each other," Helena said. "From the beginning it was you and her. Always and forever. But me - all I had was my grief. And Dina too -"
"Don't you fucking dare bring her into this," Laurel snarled.
"I did want a way out," Dina admitted. "I was tired too. But it wasn’t supposed to be like this, Helena. Not with people who see us as nothing but lab rats. Just because I wanted an end doesn't mean I wanted it to be this messy. Or that you’d get our family involved. I can't believe you came to these people for answers."
"I made a mistake." Helena looked at Laurel pleadingly, but Laurel had no sympathy now towards the woman she would have died for mere hours earlier.
"Quelle fucking surprise."
“It just got out of hand. Waller didn't say anything about anyone getting hurt. And it was just meant to be me. None of you.”
“Shut up, Helena,” Dina said tiredly.
“Hear, hear,” Nyssa said.
“No, all of you, shut up! Listen!”
When they all quietened, Laurel could just about make out the sound of a scuffle in the next room, and it was only then she realised who was missing.
“Where’s Sarah?” Laurel said.
“She wanted out, got cold feet, so I gave her the car,” Dina said, panting and struggling to catch her breath as she groaned in pain. “But now I’m thinking -”
She was interrupted, though, when the double doors burst open and the soldiers guarding them fell on their faces in a haze of bullets - and in their wake was Sarah fucking Diggle.
Laurel was so grateful to see Sarah that her face broke into a smile, to the point that she practically forgot she had been scowling two seconds earlier.
“What are you doing here?” Nyssa said.
“Not that we’re not thrilled to see you, of course -” Laurel interjected.
“I figured we’re not gonna be family until I get to save your asses, right?” Sarah said with a grin, putting a gun in Dina’s hand. “You don’t look so good, Dina.”
“No shit,” Dina said, deadpan, but then she raised her gun and fired two rounds at the soldier that was about to run inside the room.
“You’ve still got it, boss,” Nyssa said with a wink.
“How did you find us?” Helena asked, with something of a pained expression on her face.
“Someone called Waller,” Sarah answered. “She said she’d made a huge mistake.”
“Seems to be going around,” Laurel muttered.
Sarah just shrugged. “Anyway. She helped me get in here.” Then, as she unstrapped Dina’s other wrist, Sarah asked, “You okay to move?”
“I was ready yesterday, kid.”
Next to Dina was Laurel, who Sarah freed from her restraints, and then Laurel jumped up to do the same for Nyssa. The two of them found their shirts underneath their beds, hastily pulling them on and buttoning them up.
When Sarah started to undo Helena’s restraints, though, Helena shook her head. “Just leave me here, Sarah.”
“I’m not leaving anyone behind,” Sarah said firmly.
“First time for everything,” Nyssa said, but Dina held up her hand.
“No. She’s coming. We’re gonna end Fuller and then will all walk out of here in one piece. Same as always.”
“She sold us out, boss!”
“I’m aware,” Dina said, grimacing in pain and scrunching her eyes shut as she got to her feet. “But she’s still one of us. Just like I am. Even though both of us have lost our way a bit.”
“Boss -”
“You and me, Helena, we’re still in this shitty game together, all right? Maybe I believed you all the times that you said that all we had was our own grief -”
“What are you talking about?” Nyssa demanded sharply.
Dina didn’t answer, though - Helena did. “You wouldn’t understand, Nyssa. Sometimes I wonder if you even see anyone in the world beside your wife -”
“Don’t you fucking dare start on her,” Laurel warned, but Dina held up her hand in finality.
“You’re gonna have her back and she’ll have yours, Laurel, Nyssa, and that’s an order,” Dina interrupted, and after glancing at Nyssa, Laurel nodded resignedly, accepting the handgun Sarah handed to her.
“Copy that.”
“All ready to roll?”
They moved out, and despite their fractured state as a team they still worked well together - they fought using the muscle memory that came with decades and centuries of being on the front lines flanking and protecting one another.
But this time one of their number was injured, and that slowed them in a way they weren’t used to. Sarah took three bullets for Dina, shielding her, and Nyssa, getting the same idea, followed her lead, doing the same by covering Dina on her left. Laurel brought up the rear, following the team into the reception area of Fuller Incorporated - but they were then hit by tear gas, making their formation scatter.
Faintly, Laurel could hear Helena saying that they were moving out, and Laurel reached around blindly in the gas clouding the air, searching increasingly desperately for her beloved’s wrist. When she found it she breathed a sigh of relief, but she then had the wind knocked out of her as two soldiers wrestled her to the floor and the bang of bullets sounded. Laurel felt a surge of adrenaline, white-hot with rage, as she kicked her assailants with such force that they were knocked off their feet; for good measure Laurel stamped on their throats, before the gas cleared and she could just make out Nyssa lying on the floor.
“Shit, shit, shit,” Laurel whispered. Nyssa was motionless, a bloodied wound on her head where she’d been shot, and all of a sudden and all at once, it hit her: she started to understand Helena’s forlorn expression as she spoke of loneliness and grief. “Nyssa. NYSSA! Awaken, my love. Please. Please don’t leave me. Not now. I can’t. I can’t do this without you, habibti. Habibti, please wake up. Habibti -”
With a gasp, Nyssa came back to life, and in a way so did Laurel, her intake of breath so sharp it was like Nyssa had breathed life into them both. Tears dripping down her cheeks, Laurel cradled Nyssa’s face, her jaw, her fingers meeting blood and dirt.
“Nyssa,” Laurel said reverently, and her love’s name tasted like a prayer on her tongue. “I thought I lost you.”
“I’m okay, ya Laurel. Let’s go - Dina needs us.”
In the end, their day only took one more strange turn, when Sarah defeated their enemy by running him out of a sixty-seventh storey window, crashing into a car. Nyssa helped Sarah to her feet, along with Helena, and they piled into a car and drove away.
So much went on in such a short period of time that Laurel, in the passenger seat beside Nyssa, only realised her legs were shaking when her wife's hand found her knee to still it.

CREEP RANKS EVERY SONG IN NIER... AUTOMATA (mostly) BY TITLE
Because, like, no one played Gestalt. Also this game has more songs.
Significance Like. I guess. It’s a title you can use. What is significant? We don’t know. The characters don’t know. They are struggling to find out. We all are. What is meaning? What really matters? I don’t know but we’re all crying. 8/10
City Ruins – Rays of Light / Shade Plays in the ruins of the city. Exactly as advertised. Sounds sad like you might imagine. 9/10
Peaceful Sleep This is the Resistance camp right? Peaceful things don’t tend to happen there honestly. At least not as we keep going. Sounds like a sleepy JRPG town though. Ok title for the mood it gives. I like this song a lot so I’m cheating and giving it more points than I know it deserves as just, like, a title. 8/10
Memories of Dust Sand is dusty. What memories? We’re making them. Cool title. Sounds like a YA novel though. 9/10
Birth of a Wish Genuinely often get confused with the Silent Hill 2 bonus story Born from a Wish whenever I try to remember what this song is called. This Cannot Continue / 10
The Color of Depression This is like… a really cool title. Thanks. That Scanner boy is not gonna live the happy family life you all for some reason keep suggesting he is. Bad things are gonna happen to him. He dies anyway. 11/10
Amusement Park Yeah. I guess. We certainly are in the amusement park level. Creep why does this one rank so much lower than City Ruins which was also just “name of location”. Amusement park is not a cool title. City Ruins is a cool title. 7/10
A Beautiful Song Would you say Simone has girlpower? Would you say Simone successfully used her girlpower to kill and consume countless androids and also turn them into near lifeless weapons and body jewelry? 9/10
Voice of No Return Sad title. Sad song. Exactly as advertised once again. I feel sad listening to the Automata OST most of the time. Is this quest complete in the camp? I think so. Anyway it’s really sad. I love to cry. 11/10
Grandma – Destruction Um so this is like. Genuinely a horrible title. It reminds me of the title of a darkweb video which I will say no more on. This song is REALLY good its a shame this title is so… uh. Bad. It’s just bad. 1/10
Faltering Prayer – Dawn Breeze / Starry Sky This is another really cool title. This game is about like… life after god. I’m not here to get thematic. I say in a list entirely about if the song fits the theme. Anyway this is a cool title. The song again… sounds sad.  One of them is a music box which I love. Cheating again. 10/10
Emil’s Shop EVERY DAY’S A SALE. EVERY SALE’S A WIN. 12/10!!
Treasured Times The fact this plays after Emil’s shop on the OST is the biggest tonal whiplash in the world. This song makes me feel an emotion I cannot describe. It’s something like sadness but not quite. This isn’t a review of the songs, just the title. But reading the title makes me feel that emotion too but stronger when I think about it. I don’t know. 9/10
Vague Hope – Cold Rain / Spring Rain Good title… Thematically very appropriate. Not COOL like some of the others but it feels right feels canon. I like it. It’s just the city ruins quest complete song but it also plays in one of the fucking… DLC fights. That makes me extra sad. 10/10
End of the Unknown Which unknown was ended. Genuinely think when this plays I had more unknowns than knowns. This song sounds like every song from the Gestalt DLC. 6/10.
Pascal At least Automata has far fewer “named after a character” songs. They just have named after a place songs. I love Pascal so if I give this a low score he might be upset. 8/10
Forest Kingdom It really… the forest huh. Random but one of the songs in Code Vein does a vocal thing that always reminds me of this song for some reason. That has nothing to do with this game or this songs title at all I just wanted to tell you. Long Live The Forest King / 10
Dark Colossus – Kaiju This song is also in Gestalt. It’s cooler here. More stakes. Song title suggests less stakes though? That’s kinda weird. Because of this it loses points. I’m sorry. 7/10
Copied City Dude I left this one off the list when I first typed it out lol. Someone not to @ anyone told me this was based on Nier’s village. Lie to me again. I don’t know what City is being Copied. One of them. It reminds me more of the Cathedral City from DoD3. Which is a bad horrible game that I completed 100%. 8/10
Wretched Weaponry Not to be confused with Wretched Automatons. Is this like, a remix? My ears don’t work so I don’t know. Don’t inform me because I love being stupid. Anyway, in the narrative it makes sense. It’s a good, cool title. Song is softer than the title would suggest. 9/10
Possessed by Disease COOL SONG TITLE. Thank you. This plays… somewhere. Uh. Hm. I’ve 100% completed this game like three times. 9/10
Broken Heart You think you’re gonna hear a sad song? SURPRISE. Sinister as hellllll. Subverted expectations baby. MCU take notes. I’ve never seen a movie in the MCU. Loving the dark tones in this. Broken heart but the emotion isn’t just sad. GOOD STUFF. 10/10
Mourning Again. You think it’s gonna be sad? But BOOM. It isn’t. I mean it still is, but in a dark way. These aren’t song reviews. These are title reviews. But if a title suggests one thing and delivers another that’s still a valid point right? I don’t know. Hey wait isn’t this just Shadowlord’s Castle? Yonah / 10
Dependent Weakling Well, it’s no Song of the Ancients – Fate, but it’ll do. In all seriousness, this is like, a great song title for Eve’s boss battle. Y’know, because he relied so heavily on Adam and all’a that. Maybe a little on the nose. Maybe a little rude. Eve sucks / 10
Rebirth & Hope Sounds hopeful. Plays during ending A where we see a Rebirth cos 9S super doesn’t die. This song is literally 30 seconds long why am I even bothering. Oh, right, because it’s on the OST at all. 30 second songs / 10
War & War Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here, this is the war room. It… sounds like a war room song. A preparing for a big battle song. Once again, exactly as advertised. Plays before a big battle. It really thematic naming! Peace was never an option. 8/10
Crumbling Lies Words cannot express how much I adore this song. First of all, title is on point. It’s the song that plays when you get to  Route C. Literally the moment I fell in love with the game. The Bunker is destroyed, which, again… maybe it’s a bit on the nose. I don’t care. This is the perfect song title to the perfect song. I will die on this hill. 12/10
Widespread Illness Red Eye except it’s robots now. Very thematically appropriate. Everyone is dying. There’s nothing you can do to cure it except kill them. They’re incredibly infectious. Zombie Virus but with Robots. Can you tell I don’t remember what it’s called? I’m writing this at 1am and I’ve decided it’s funnier if I don’t look anything up. Sounds very somber… I like it. 9/10
Fortress of Lies Not to be dramatic but when I read this English title I was like MMMMMMMNNN because like. I get it. It plays in the Bunker. Which… is built on lies. Again. Incredibly on the nose but when I learned what the song was called I just fucking DIED the first time. I’m stupid. I don’t care. 11/10
Song of the Ancients – Atonement Another song I died when I learned the title of. Devola and Popola in that game have nothing to atone for. They are atoning for sing they did not commit. Punished for the crimes of another set of Androids, possibly thousands of miles away. It’s not fair. They have nothing to atone for. They’ve done nothing wrong. 12/10 crying creeps.
Blissful Death FUCK. This one plays in the Devola and Popola like. Text Adventure part. Which is just. I love it so much. No one dies in that though. Well… maybe someone does. It’s not impossible that Popola hurt someone. It’s suggested that, maaaaybe she did. No one stops. No one Stops.
Emil – Despair Emil’s life has quite literally only been despair. Please don’t bully him with your song titles like this… 9/10
Alien Manifestation Vintage meme of that guy from the history channel with the impact font that just says Aliens.  This game has aliens, I will give you that. They’re all dead though. I guess the machines are aliens but. Eh. Wait doesn’t this play in the castle? There aren’t even aliens there what the fuck. 5/10
The Tower There’s a tower. This plays there. Thank you. Also the name of a tarot card I think? That could be cool if I knew a single goddamn thing about tarot cards. I don’t. 6/10
Bipolar Nightmare Cool flying section. Has anyone found Grun skip yet? Because the bounty for that was like. A lot of money. Vaguely a cool song title. I kinda like it. Although for some reason it reminds me of The Evil Within’s Japanese title, Psychobreak. So I think I like it less because of that. Not the worst title, but maybe the lowest of the COOL EDGY song titles. Fucking love the piano part in this one though. 7/10
The Sound of the End Really super cool and sexy song title. 2B is going to die but she can’t let anyone else get hurt because of it. She’s already done so much damage. This song is really dramatic sounding. The title is dramatic. Love this one a lot. The actual playable segment is kind of a struggle. But I think that’s the point… 10/10
Weight of the World / End of YoRHa I once got into an internet fight because I said this song is about every character except 9S because of the line “I’m only one girl”. I was corrected that the Japanese version is basically EXCLUSIVELY about 9S. None of this is relevant at all I just wanted to remember it. I still do not like 9S. Thematically a brilliant title. Everyone feels like they must do so much… but you cannot bear the weight of the world alone. Ending E legitimately makes me cry. Whenever I think about the messages from other players supporting me? It’s a lot. What the fuck. 12/10

Bound by Destiny II, part 1 ― Chapter 13: The Party
PAIRING: Kamilah Sayeed x MC (Nadya Al Jamil) RATING: Mature
⥼ MASTERLIST ⥽
⥼ Bound by Destiny II, part 1 ⥽
While struggling with nightmares of lives she’s never lived, a shadow from the past looming over her city, and the proposed idea that her life may just be a little bit too weird to handle alone, Nadya makes sure to tell herself that everything is perfect just the way it is. If only. When the self-proclaimed King of Vampires (and Maker of her sometimes-girlfriend and always-boss, can’t forget that little tidbit) Gaius Augustine returns intent on claiming Manhattan as the throne that was promised, she and her friends find themselves forced into the task of saving the world. But with millennia-old vampires and an Order of hunters on their heels as well as allies hiding catastrophic secrets at their backs… it won’t be an easy task. Too bad destiny didn’t exactly ask for her input.
Bound by Destiny II and the rest of the Oblivion Bound series is an ongoing dramatic retelling project of the Bloodbound series and spin-off, Nightbound. Find out more [HERE].
*Let me know if you would like to be added to the Destiny II tag list!
⥼ Chapter Summary ⥽
It's been one whole year since Lily was Turned and she refuses to let it be a bummer. Time to party!
[READ IT ON AO3]
Tumblr media
Nadya’s glad she never has to explain to anyone what the Shadow Den looked like before Jax joined the Council and made the Clanless, well, not-so-Clanless. It’s just such a different place. Sometimes that dark and dim tiny-flame-in-the-endless-night hopeful sanctuary for anyone seeking it seems like a distant dream rather than a memory.
Even if she tried, too, Nadya’s not quite so sure they would believe her.
That being said — Maricruz has really outdone herself.
Every bodega and small store in the city must be sold out of string lights. Not that Nadya’s complaining; all the bulbs put together like this form a weird kind of heated-lamp effect and being underground in the middle of January had been one of her biggest concerns about tonight.
The unofficial Fountain Square is a dazzling sight with multicolored fairy lights — and whatever stall can have streamers does have streamers stretching the whole length of the party. It’s kind of jarring when she spots the cutoff point. How everything just drops off into a dark abyss. But right now there’s probably no place safer on the entire island.
Adrian tucks his present higher under his arm and takes in the decorations with equal bewilderment. “I wonder where they’re siphoning the electricity from.”
There’s a little frown creasing between his eyebrows as he says it. Nadya knows that look and quickly diverts his attention. She doesn’t know either but she has a feeling the answer isn’t exactly on the right side of the law.
“I can’t believe you guys don’t do this for everyone.” This; a celebration for a successful year as a newbie-vampire. “Imagine what kind of party I could throw for you.”
Why is he looking at her like that? What does a 200 year old vampire have to be afraid of? Her party-planning skills are excellent, thank you very much. Or had he already forgotten the Fourth of July?
“Well, remember Nadya that for many people — especially around here — their Turning wasn’t something to look back on fondly.”
“Lily’s wasn’t.”
He’ll give her that. “Touché.” But his point still stands. “I can’t speak for some of the younger ones, but I definitely don’t remember the date on which I was Turned.”
“Because colonial America used different calendars?”
“Because we were in the middle of a war.” Which is a fair point, so Nadya concedes.
Only they’ve brought up his Turning — so of course Adrian goes uncomfortably quiet beside her. Thoughts lost a long time ago and with company way less cool than those at present. So instead she hooks her arm in his and points forward to where the alley of casual attendees empties out into the heart of the Square.
Hard to believe nearly a year ago they had sat in this very spot, Adrian on the run and Nadya just trying to keep up with everyone. They had sat together on the rim of the old memorial fountain and she just knew the weight of the injustice was something he demanded to carry. “So do something about it,” she had said — an offhanded thing when they were safe and sound.
But he had.
He had wanted to have a brand-new fountain made especially for the Shadow Den. Jax had refused, which was an argument Nadya’s too happy to recall at the moment, but his reasons were sound. Instead they worked together to renovate the one already down here. It wasn’t just a place to remember the lost and mourned; it was as much a part of the community as Jax, or Lily, or even little Lula.
Now, with cracks filled-in and worn edges sanded back to definition, the memorial stone in the heart of the Shadow Den was no longer something to avoid looking at. Now the pictures and names and memories of gone loved ones could be celebrated. As they were meant to.
Adrian takes it in; his passion project, his apology letter to the Clanless community. This can never make up for what we’ve done — but it’s a place to start. He starts blinking rapidly and Nadya squeezes his arm to draw him out of his somber appreciation.
Lily would kill her if she found out someone was crying at her party.
They leave their presents on a small pile by the fountain rim. What did you get someone for surviving death for the first time around — well Lily hadn’t wanted presents so much as the party itself, but if anyone wanted to bring something for the community they were more than welcome to.
As if Nadya could ever attend a party and not bring a gift.
“Nadi’Nadi’Nadi’Nadi’!”
Incoming. She braces herself for literal impact and somehow still manages to stumble as the whirlwind of child vampire comes at her like a tiny freight train. Pulls little Lula back to hold her at arms’ length and grin down at those tiny fangs and sparkling eyes.
“Hey kiddo,” she takes care not to ruffle the young girl’s hair, done up all special for the party with curls that look suspiciously like Maricruz’s, “wow, look at your dress!”
Lula spins in her frilly little frock, on one foot and with arms spread out, while her stuffed elephant is dangerously close to being hurled into oblivion. “D’you like it, do you do you doyou?”
“I feel like I’m looking at a movie star.”
Nadya elbows Adrian for good measure. He startles only a bit this time. “Absolutely,” he agrees, “you look like a little Shirley Temple.”
“Who?” Lula asks with her head cocked, and Nadya quickly slaps her hand over her mouth to stifle her laughter.
“I’m gonna let you handle that one.”
And if he’s going to try and get out of it the way Lula suddenly latches onto him insisting she knows stops that in its tracks. Nadya just winks and skirts off while she still can.
Because there’s only one place to find Lily Spencer at any party — and that’s exactly where Nadya finds her. Digging around in the wires underneath what looks like a pretty expensive DJ rig with wire strippers between her teeth and tangled electrical tape in her determined grasp.
She crouches down and taps Lily on the forehead. “Anything I can do?”
“I’ll call you if I want it to break.”
Not that they don’t grin at one another — Nadya’s fully aware of her technological ineptitude. Still she makes herself comfortable to watch a master work her art.
“You remember this is your party, right?”
“Uh-huh, your point?”
“Shouldn’t someone else be doing that?”
Stupid questions get stupid answers; in this case a look that’s so withering Nadya will see it every time she so much as trips on a shoelace. So she tries something else; “Where’re Mari and Jax?”
Lily spits out the roll of tape and Nadya grabs it before it can disappear in the crowd of feet. “Jax and Arnold are bringing in the kegs. Someone needed a boss so Mari went off. Hand me that, no, that thing right — no to your left.”
“You just said right!”
“Your other right!”
Lily all but yanks the god-knows-what from her hand and Nadya flicks her roommate’s nose for the trouble. “Don’t hang out under here for too long, okay?”
“Nadya — I can’t just sit by and not have a banger playlist going at a party with my name on it.”
“Really, will the party gods cast you out?” She feigns surprise, and quickly scrambles off of the small temporary stage before divine retribution comes upon her.
“You’d better run, Al Jamil!”
Only… Lily can’t see around the booth, so she doesn’t know just how right she is.
After all, why would anything ever go right for her? Why would she think she could enjoy a nice party and not turn to physically collide into the one person she had hoped she could just… yearn at from a safe and wistful distance?
Kamilah catches her faster than it takes her to realize she’s falling. Hands steady on her upper arms, making sure she’s not about to keel over and end up a pool of blood on the concrete underfoot.
Talk about falling head-over-heels.
“Uh — thanks for that…” says Nadya sheepishly, but Kamilah doesn’t respond. She just stares, eyes practically squinting, before leaning back with a nod.
“What,” Nadya pales, “something on my face?”
The woman shakes her head. “No. I was merely checking to make sure you had your contacts in.”
Oh. “Y-Yeah. Lily likes to — well this dance she invented is just spinning around and with her new speed I really didn’t want them to pistol-whip someone in the face.” Is she rambling?
Wow, she’s rambling. And Kamilah notices it too; likely in the same moment. The smile it gets is small but there. Like a secret between them even in the small crowd.
It makes Nadya feel not-so-bad for having one of her own.
“Thanks for coming,” she switches the subject quickly, “dunno if you know but… it—it means a lot to Lil’.” And to me.
Kamilah’s words are careful and measured. “Well then, you may tell Lily that I am grateful for the invitation. And wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to see her… enjoying herself.”
So this is a thing they’re going to be doing, huh.
Before Nadya can answer there’s a shrill whistle that makes the entire crowd—save herself—flinch. Sensitive vampires and whistles do not go well together.
A gaggle of angry glares all whip over to where Jax is smirking at the entrance to another alley of stalls. He lowers his fingers from his lips and motions at them with a wave. Before Kamilah even gets the chance to consider declining, Nadya nudges her with insistence. “Come on, we’re not gonna be those people.”
“And which people would that be?”
“The ones who get social restraining orders on each other.”
She doesn’t mention it, but Nadya doesn’t miss the little bit of relief that crosses Kamilah’s face under a string of purple lights.
Jax has alcohol (some thankfully not from a keg, though she knows Lily can and will live her fantasy of a keg-stand at some point tonight) which, thank god honestly. It helps that he’s with her too — because someone has to be here to back her up when Nadya will try to convince the world Kamilah takes a bottle of cheap beer from Arnold with a thanks and a long drink.
Adrian joins them shortly after; the huff he gives at Nadya with no real heat behind it. “Nu-uh,” she drinks her cider to avoid laughing too hard, “you dated yourself back there, old man.” Which makes Jax and Kamilah give equally confused looks — so of course the laughter can’t be contained.
Halfway through her bottle there’s blowback on unseen speakers — followed by chill-yet-classy electronica. When Lily’s sliding in with a manic delight that could only mean she’s ready to do something crazy…
Though she wants to wait for her grand ‘stand until Maricruz can admire her for it.
The music acts like a beacon. Summons vampires and humans alike from their scattered conversations and to the Square for dancing. Lily doesn’t give Nadya a choice in joining her — but her two left feet are a compliment to her best friend’s two right ones and they make it work.
Jax, too, gets dragged in with them — who in their right minds could possibly turn down Lula for anything, ever — and its with absolute amusement that Nadya watches the older seamstress Evelyn accost Adrian for something that’s a little too much like a swing for the current beats-per-minute.
And then there was one.
Under the guise of “needing a change in pace ohmygod,” Lily shoves Nadya away and heads back to the stereo stage. Only someone horrendously oblivious would think she wasn’t trying to do the obvious.
It’s Kamilah. Kamilah is horrendously oblivious.
She looks down at Nadya’s offered hand with lips pursed. “This isn’t the sort of music I’m… familiar with dancing to.”
“You think anyone actually does?”
Together they look out to the dance floor. Nadya’s point is proven in every direction, and then some.
“Nadya…”
But it isn’t dancing that has Kamilah hesitating. It makes perfect sense — Nadya was stupid for thinking they even could. “Nope, you’re right, my bad. I’ll —”
The familiarity of her hand is astounding. A drink of cool water on a blistering summer day. Nadya remembers a distant thought — that she had been happy to give up those sunny afternoons without a look back if it meant being with Kamilah.
And now; laughing until she’s pink in the face while showing a two thousand year old vampire how to improvise a groove?
She still would.
An hour and a second bottle later and Nadya’s sure she might die. No really, this is what dying feels like. Tightness in her chest, she can’t breathe, tongue dry and heavy in her mouth and her pulse racing through her body and pounding in her temples.
And just what will she say with her dying breath?
“Groovy moves, Jax!”
Thus Nadya can depart this world peacefully — or at the very least fall back into Adrian in absolute hilarity with the knowledge he won’t let her fall.
Jax glares but doesn’t let it stop him. He keeps on hustling, keeps on murdering Nadya with every jerky thrust of his hips.
Cause of death: aggressive hustle.
Though if she doesn’t get some air she’ll get dizzy at the very least. Adrian helps her back by the impromptu bar where Kamilah leans against a support column.
“I was under the impression we as a society had agreed to leave disco behind.”
Adrian snorts a laugh. “You did, but I’m pretty sure you were the only one.”
“If you ever visited a disco you must have done so behind my back.”
“No, but I can’t begrudge people going out and having a good time.”
“Ah yes, I forgot who I was talking to,” Kamilah rolls her eyes so hard it makes Nadya’s head hurt, “you’ve always been Mister Fun Entertainment.”
“Hey —”
She would be happy to watch the pair of them go at it all night, really. But when Adrian stops mid-sentence its enough to make both Nadya and Kamilah turn to see where Lily is running towards them… and with an all-too-familiar widened panic in her eyes.
Just one thing, can’t they have just one thing?
“What is the matter?” Kamilah sets on her immediately, but Lily ignores her for Nadya.
“You need to come quick.”
“Where’ve you been?” She distantly remembers maybe hearing Lily call out for her girlfriend, who had been mysteriously absent for how excited she was to throw this thing. “Lil’, what’s wrong?”
“Too much talking, not enough walking.”
Lily starts to shove Nadya down the way she’d come. The older vampires follow hot on their heels.
“Lil’ — stop shoving me I’m gonna fall. I’m com—I’m coming, okay? Jeez…” She has to practically force Lily to let her walk on her own two feet. And still with no questions answered.
“They’re just up ahead.”
They. Why does Nadya’s stomach fall out of her butt at that? Probably because the only ‘they’ in her life lately have been crazy killer lovers, maybe, possibly?
“Come on, stop for a second.”
“No, I don’t wanna leave her alone with him for long.”
Well now Nadya’s thoroughly lost. Thankfully when she looks behind to the others she doesn’t seem to be the only one.
Lily takes them all passed the unofficial border of the party; where the lights don’t reach but a few stragglers chat and feed with donor’s permission by candlelight. The farther they go the worse her anxiety; but there’s no stopping now.
They finally round the roasted cashew cart and her brain doesn’t really register the fact that there’s nothing to immediately panic about.
Maricruz looks up at them with her arms crossed over her chest, expression set grim. Behind her Nadya vaguely recognizes the entry to one of the Den’s closed-off feeding areas — because apparently performance anxiety was a thing vampires could have.
“Are you okay baby?” Lily asks, and immediately slots herself against the other woman’s side. Maricruz nods and kisses her temple — but it’s an absent act; a physical reaction. Her mind is definitely elsewhere.
“‘M fine, cariña.”
“But —”
“He’s almost done.”
He pushes aside the curtain before Nadya, Adrian, or Kamilah can even begin to process what’s going on. He has to duck because obviously the Den wasn’t built with people his height in mind.
Cadence thumbs away a drop of blood from the corner of his mouth almost sheepishly. Despite having—apparently—just fed he looks haggard; hair tied back in a messy ponytail but falling around his face almost gaunt in the hollows of his cheeks.
He hauls up the strap of his shoulder bag a bit higher and only then realizes they have company. Even his smile is exhausted.
Nadya knows that if she opens her mouth right now the only thing that will come out is some variation of “what the literal crap” so she does the smart thing… and keeps it shut.
But… is anybody gonna say anything? Anything at all?
“You know this man?” asks Kamilah, clipped and curt behind her. It takes Nadya a second to realize she’s asking Maricruz.
The smuggler kicks at the dirt under her heel. “Kinda.”
Adrian almost sounds relieved. “Cadence — what are you doing in New York?”
When did you get here? Why didn’t you tell Kathy? How the heck is this my life right now? Nadya still doesn’t say a word though which is probably for the best.
Though, thankfully, her stomach totally bottomed out on the run over here. So when the blond vampire looks right at her there’s nowhere lower it could possibly go.
“I’m here because I need the Bloodkeeper’s help.”
Silence.
When someone speaks; Nadya’s as surprised as any of them when she recognizes the voice as her own.
“We should talk about this somewhere else.”
“I agree.”
“C’mon,” Maricruz jerks her head back to the heart of the Shadow Den; the party still swings without them, “we’ll go back to Matsuo’s.”
Not that they have many other options — and even if they did Maricruz is already marching on, Lily’s hand in hers, very much not looking back. They all start to follow — or nearly all.
They’re already around a corner when Nadya notices Kamilah isn’t with them.
She looks back and the look on the vampiress’ face is… scary. Part of that fear is because she recognizes it too-well; because it’s the reason the two of them are the way they are right now.
The rest of it is because it’s so sudden; it takes Nadya by surprise.
“Kamilah?” she calls, and distantly hears the footsteps ahead of her stop, “Are you coming?”
It almost looks like she isn’t.
Then one step forward, and another, like she’s remembering how to walk. Nadya follows slow and purposefully at her side the whole way there.
Tumblr media
The first thing Nadya realizes once the door closes behind them — she’s stuck in a tiny apartment full of vampires. And it’s not like control has ever been on her side when it comes to these kinds of things.
Hopefully it won’t take long.
“I take it you haven’t made much progress with the Amulet?” Cadence asks, though judging by the already apologetic way he looks at Nadya he already knows the answer. “I see, I’m sorry to know that.”
“Why are you here?” It’s Kamilah who cuts to the chase; abrupt and almost rude; and she’s not the only one who realizes it.
Adrian throws Kamilah a look but it isn’t returned. She hasn’t looked away from Cadence from the moment he’d left the feeding den.
To his credit, the blond vampire remains calm even under her aggressive scrutiny. Not many can. “I came to try and help if I could. I spent a decade trying to find it; and though it might not have been any use to me personally I thought some of my research —” he pats the bag now resting in his lap, “— might prove useful.”
Which is great if it’s true. But Kamilah’s suspicion might just be rubbing off on her. Something about his attitude isn’t holding up.
“Why doesn’t Kathy know where you are?”
He doesn’t look away fast enough. Nadya doesn’t miss the flash of pain over his features. “This was an impulsive decision. I was going to tell her once I’d settled in… and once you had decided whether or not to accept my help.”
Adrian’s arms cross over his chest. “When did you arrive?”
“Just this afternoon. I spent the daylight hours at the train station and sought you out the moment I could. I have no desire to repeat what happened with Izzy.”
“Good move on your part.”
But Kamilah isn’t having it.
“I thought I was clear when I told you never to return to New York. Should I have followed it with a threat?”
“The threat was well-implied, Miss Sayeed.”
“And yet here you are.”
“I would think the threat the Amulet’s secrets pose were worth the risk.” He raises an eyebrow; meets her toe-to-toe and doesn’t back down. Nadya would be impressed if she didn’t know how badly things like this usually ended. And not against Kamilah’s favor.
“Do not speak to me of risks. I know better than anyone —”
Then Adrian is between them; Nadya didn’t register the distance slowly closing between the confronting vampires until he’s got a hand on each one’s shoulder and, from the looks of it, struggling to hold his fellow Council member back.
“Kamilah,” he tries to chide; actually has to swerve his head to get her to look away from Cadence and at him, “why are you acting like this?”
She doesn’t answer, but Nadya can guess pretty well on her own. Can’t say she hasn’t been feeling a little of that apprehension rolling off of the woman in waves herself, but she’s hoping it’s just Bloodkeeper projecting and not something she really feels.
But Cadence takes her silence as an opportunity to back down; literally. Instead he looks to Nadya.
“Not only that, but I wanted to apologize to you; to all of you.”
“For what?” Which might just be her stupidest question to date.
“For my actions at Persephone, and for not being there to try and give this kind of help before. But when night fell and I was able to get to the others, you’d already left Louisiana.”
She shrugs. “It was important we got back.” She had things to do after all. Vampires to break up with. Relationships to ruin. Depression to cry over.
“Of course, and I understand that. And I won’t do you the disservice of sitting here and saying my actions and intentions are entirely altruistic ones. I want to help you because it’s the right thing to do. But I hope you might return my offer with help of your own. Help only you, Nadya, can provide.”
And there it is. I’m here because I need the Bloodkeeper’s help.
Nadya holds up a hand to her friends before they can say anything in her stead. Whether they were planning to or not — she deserves the chance to speak first. They can’t begrudge her that, can they?
It’s her power. She can do what she wants with it. And frankly, after all the grief it’s caused her, the thought of doing some good with it is nice.
“You want me to try and find your memories.”
“Yes,” and it helps that he seems almost apologetic for asking, “because I hate to admit it — and I think I’ve been avoiding admitting it for some time now — you might be the only avenue I have left. Every single lead has come up dry. It’s been a century now… and I’m tired of getting my hopes up if I’m honest.”
Nadya wrings her hands together in her lap. “I don’t… I mean I want to help, Cadence, please understand that. And if I know that I can then yeah, let’s do it. But this isn’t something I have control of. I don’t even know if it’ll work.”
“It will.”
“I thought you weren’t getting your hopes up?”
“You misunderstand, see I know it will — because it already has.”
The only one who doesn’t look surprised is Maricruz, but she also doesn’t seem to have been paying attention since this began. She looks at Lily and judges the context from there.
Though even among those in the know the reactions are mixed. Adrian looks the good kind of surprised and that’s sensible; he was the first one to try and help after all. But Kamilah couldn’t be more opposite; she melts the emotion away easily but not before Nadya has a chance to see it for what it is — fear.
And Cadence, well, he’s getting kind of excited. “I’ve always known I served on account of the uniform, but I’ve never had a lick of a memory about the war itself. But now I do, Nadya, I do. It was so small, a roaring engine and fellow soldiers and what I think were bombs falling in the trenches. All fragments, really. Beautiful, wonderfully complex and confusing fragments. And it’s all thanks to you.” He leans forward and takes her hands in his. Nadya can’t tell if she’s the one shaking, or he is, or maybe they both are.
“Flechette, remember? You and Izzy.”
And she definitely remembers now. Awakening from unconsciousness, Isadora de la Rosa having been digging around in her head like she was an abandoned bin of winter clothes in the back of a garage. Cadence had been unconscious, and when he’d come to…
He sees the recognition across her face. “I should apologize for that, too. I couldn’t wrap my mind around it, and it was so fleeting… but you know how strange it is, don’t you. To have your entire life, all the things you can point to and know and name, and then suddenly there’s something new. Something you can feel in your bones is the truth.”
When Nadya swallows it feels like there’s glass in her throat. “And… you’re looking around, and you know what’s going to happen next because you—you lived it. But then you didn’t, and you’re still surprised.”
“But like a dream it never lasts long.”
“And you’re left wondering what was real and what was your imagination. Yes.”
If Nadya had known how good it would feel to have someone understand — actually understand; not because the memories were theirs but because they didn’t know what was going on just like she didn’t know what was going on — she would have laid out a red carpet for the guy.
Calling it nice doesn’t even scrape against what it really is, but there’s a relief there too. She holds on to that.
“You’re my last shot, Nadya,” Cadence insists; Nadya believes him utterly, “not only that you’re the only shot that’s yielded results. I think I’d given up a long time ago and not even realized it. Because to have hope for the first time… well, ever?”
She nods. She gets it — and not just because the longer her body heat has the chance to seep into his skin the more that starts to bleed through the cracks. Nadya yanks her hands away but luckily he doesn’t seem too insulted.
Adrian clears his throat and draws their attention. Pulls them out of their little world of someone who gets what it’s like to be someone and yourself and not knowing who either really is.
“Actually, this is a unique opportunity to study an actual measure to your abilities, Nadya.” He makes a point of ignoring the appalled silence radiating off of Kamilah beside him. “That is; if the both of you agree to a documented study.”
“Not a fan of how you’re making me sound like a lab rat.”
“You know what I mean.”
She does. And throwing a look Cadence’s way — he does, too.
“But we can hammer out the finer details tomorrow,” because he hasn’t missed Lily’s bouncing leg or the change of muffled music beyond the door, “because I think the hostess of the party has been away from it for long enough, wouldn’t you say Lily?”
“Lily would say,” Lily says, “Lily would definitely say.”
Cadence initially tries to back out but Lily won’t have it — though she does forget to tell him to duck before pulling him out of the apartment and he ends up stumbling with a red mark on his forehead. Maricruz follows at their heels and Adrian looks ready to join close behind — but he stops when he realizes no one else is coming along.
“Nadya? Kamilah? Are you coming?”
She knows what it looks like when someone is looking through you rather than at you. That’s why it hurts so much seeing it from eyes she’s always thought so beautiful; so boundless.
Nadya doesn’t regret ever falling for Kamilah. But at times like this — when she’s more content to twist herself up in her own concerns and shut everyone; shut Nadya out — she finds herself wondering how exactly she ended up doing so in the first place.
“Yeah, Adrian, I’m coming.”
She follows him out; and this time she doesn’t look back.

[bulletproof glass part 3] part 2
“choi san is dangerous”
those were the first words that hongjoong uttered after the fateful meeting in the warehouse. “maybe i underestimated him.”
yunho remembers hongjoong having a nightmare that night, ending with a loud shout of “YUNHO!” and the banging open of his door, a frenzied hongjoong barging in his room, gasping for air like someone was choking him. yunho remembers hongjoong startling him awake, only to have hongjoong gather him in his arms and mutter incomprehensible things into his ears while he just sat there, helpless and confused.
“they can’t take me, hyung. it’s okay. i’m here, i’m safe.”
a frantic shake of the head. “no, you’re not. i made you a target since the day i took you to see them. i shouldn’t have done that, but i couldn’t leave you alone.”
“i know, hyung. it’s alright. we’re okay. i can protect myself”
a muffled laugh. “as much as that gun is loaded, yunho, we both know you can‘t bring yourself to shoot.”
yunho purses his lips, drawing back and holding hongjoong at arms length. “i’ll shoot it if anyone threatens you, hyung. threatens us. you know that.”
hongjoong sighs, and wonders for the nth time why he brought this sweet soul into the tainted abyss of the underworld.
he sleeps much better after that, though, buried in 185cm of yunho.
“hello again, yunho ssi”
yunho, in his sleep deprived, coffee induced haze, barely recognises the person standing in front of him. “huh.” he manages to utter, sounding so incredibly dumb that even he himself winces. damn it, yunho. get it together
but then he realises he shouldn’t even be engaging with choi san, who’s holding a latte to his lips and grinning at him like they shared some kind of inside joke.
yunho thinks he should find a new cafe to frequent. he can’t keep being distracted by devilishly attractive mafia bosses while he‘s trying to work on his dissertation. shame, the coffee here is the best he’s had in a while.
“what do you want.” he sighs out, not bothering to try and intimidate san into going away. somehow, within three meetings, he already understands san more than most people do.
choi san cannot be cowed.
“like i said last time, nothing. just wanted to say hi. and good luck on whatever you’re doing, it looks difficult.” choi san hums, still staring at him, and yunho, much to his horror, finds the tips of his ears going hot.
san’s grin morphs into a smirk. “i told you before, yunho- we’ll probably be meeting a lot. and it’s probably to my benefit that you look cute almost all the time. even holding a gun.”
what is this guy‘s problem?!
yunho grits his teeth, willing himself to ignore the man. “i am busy. go away.”
“of course, of course. see you soon, cutie.” san winks, and to yunho’s horror, the blush on his ears creeps onto his cheeks.
“i hope not.”
“darling, we don’t always get what we want in life.” san chirps merrily, and yunho tenses. choi san is dangerous.
warning alarms go off in his head when san leans in closer, just like he did the last time they met. this time, yunho forces himself not to shrink away. he can’t shoot me in broad daylight. he’s a mafia boss, not an idiot.
“but i’m the exception. i always get what i want. and right now, jung yunho, i want you.”
yunho chokes on air, and san whirls around on his heels, strutting off, a satisfied smile decorating his chiseled features. making yunho flustered was his new favourite past time.
while yunho is still recovering, an employee brings out a piece of hazelnut cake and sets it on his table. yunho eyes it suspiciously. “sorry, i didn’t order that.”
“yes, but that gentleman just now did. told us to bring it to you. oh, and he left a message. enjoy, sir!”
a card is slipped onto his table, and yunho can’t resist.
eyeing the cake and gingerly picking up the fork with his left hand, he turns the card around with his right hand and blinks.
you intrigue me, jung yunho. hazelnut is your favourite right? i bet you’re wondering how i know, though the answer won’t surprise you. i’ll get to know you more, and maybe you’ll want me to know you too.
by the way, my name is san, since you never use it. here’s my number. i trust you won’t do anything with it, but maybe save it. i’ll see you again.
for gods’ sake. was a mafia boss flirting with him?
“san. what’s your intention with yunho?”
“god, seonghwa, you’ve asked me that so many times. i told you, he’s a bit of fun and amusement. such an innocent thing. maybe i want to ruin him. who knows? i just like messing with him.”
seonghwa pursed his lips, eyeing san cautiously while he spins in his leather chair behind his gigantic desk.
“there’s no time for amusement.”
you have to kill him.
“that’s where you are wrong, my dear stick in the mud.” san tuts at him. “there’s always time for fun, and jung yunho is the best fun i’ve had in a while.”
“usually you sleep with the fun on the first try.” seonghwa deadpans.
san laughs, and then contemplates. “true. but he knows me, knows what i am. he’ll take more effort, if i want to go there. but strangely, i’m not sure that’s what i even want out of him.”
“why do you care so much about him?” seonghwa bites his tongue, regretting his statement immediately when he sees san tense.
“i don’t. i’m just bored, seonghwa. don’t get anything screwed up inside your head.”
god, seonghwa wants to tell him so bad.
they’re going to make you kill him
stay away from him
i don’t want you to hurt
“i’ll have him soon. and then i won’t want him anymore, just like all the others.” san whirls around in his chair to face the window, the view of seoul greeting him. “they’re all so easy.”
seonghwa knows jung yunho isn’t easy. he’s not a toy, and he won’t fall for san.
at least, seonghwa hopes he won’t. he hopes that jung yunho is intelligent and cares enough about his own wellbeing to stay away from san. then maybe the elders would reconsider his target, and seonghwa won’t have to look hongjoong in the eye and tell him that his little brother is about to be killed-
seonghwa grips his phone tightly, standing outside an apartment smack in the middle of hongdae. he’s trying to decide whether or not to knock, when the door opens and decides for him.
kim hongjoong stands before seonghwa, in all the glory that one can at 4am in the morning.
“the fuck?” is the only thing he gets in lieu of a greeting.
seonghwa can’t help the little smile that crawls onto his face, or the little flame of warmth that blooms, just for a split second, in his heart.
this apartment is hongjoong’s secret hideout, away from all the filth and burden that he carries in his day to day life.
somehow, seonghwa has been let in on the secret.
“hey.” seonghwa manages, biting his lips to keep from spilling everything out.
“do you need something?” hongjoong’s voice is husky, and seonghwa feels slightly apologetic for waking him up. especially since he has no idea why he’s there, other than the fact that his feet took him there of their own accord.
so he decides to be honest. “wanted to see you. that’s all. i can go now.”
he doesn’t move, registering hongjoong’s slight widening of his eyes and the way he seems to be more alert.
god, if choi san knew how dangerous it was to be so, so attracted to the enemy, maybe he would stay away. but seonghwa is a hypocrite.
kim hongjoong is his biggest secret.
there’s a pale hand on his wrist, tugging him into the apartment, and seonghwa complies easily.
he has always, always been weak for kim hongjoong.
here, in this apartment, he tosses aside his persona as a senior member of the choi mafia, and hongjoong sheds the title of leader. at least for a while, they both pretend like they’re just normal people, enjoying each other’s company
and maybe they both secretly entertain the thought that they might be normal people, who don’t want to let each other go.
within each meeting on opposite sides, with the threat of dying ever present, hongjoong will never admit it, but he doesn’t think he could shoot seonghwa. or hurt him. or do anything besides gather the taller man into a tight embrace and press his lips against the tatoo on his neck. the insignia of his gang. maybe, if he kisses it hard enough,it will fade away and hongjoong can take him into his arms without feeling like he’s playing with fire.
there’s not supposed to be trust between them. but seonghwa bares his neck a bit more, and he knows he’s long gone , unable to stay away from hongjoong.
if it came down to it, they’d both shoot themselves before they would each other. of course, neither of them says that, because that would mean crossing a line that they couldn’t afford to. they’d trip over the web of strings and not be able to catch themselves. on the surface, they don’t speak of each other. but at night, seonghwa’s thoughts flit over to hongjoong automatically.
and seonghwa wants.
he wants so,so badly.
and he’s scared that san wants, too.
san, who covers for him silently and doesn’t use hongjoong as leverage against seonghwa. san, who has so much more on the line.
charming, seductive choi san, who wouldn’t be able to realise he’s in too deep because he thinks himself invincible and beyond attachment.
in hongjoong’s bedroom that night, buried under the sheets, seonghwa prays and prays, but he feels hopeless.
he’s always prayed to wake up the next day and still be here, next to hongjoong without a gun between them.
but tonight, he thinks of san.
there’s a mountainload of guilt in his chest. the knowledge that san will be tasked to kill, and seonghwa will be forced to choose between two sides of himself that have been clashing from the beginning
in his heart, seonghwa knows. he knows because he can read san like an open book. he’s grown up with san, and he feels suffocated at the thought that san doesn’t know himself as well as he thinks. san is plunging head first into the deep end.
san’s falling, and seonghwa might not be able to catch him.
A/N: i really didnt think this through. i dont know how i want the story to develop because i am an impatient prick who wants to get to the climax but can’t put together a good enough storyline to get there and shfhnfew i’m so frustrated

As Jidné got out of the castle, her stomach plummeted to her feet and her legs transformed into limp noodles—barely doing their job and instead dragged her along in every step. It was gradually sinking into her that the person who gave her the job was one of the most feared figures among the Jedi. She clutched her abdomen, crumpling the center of her jacket while waiting for the entry ramp to unfurl.
Not wanting to look back over her shoulder, she knew that she’d have the safety and privacy she needs within her vessel: a Dynamic-class freighter that she personally retrofitted and anointed the Crescent Scarab. It was a fine work of art that she greatly took pride in, so much so, that she has modified everything to her liking. She darted to the lounge of the ship, lousily putting down the canister and then splaying herself over the sofa.
Coming from the cockpit, an ID seeker droid acknowledged her arrival and greeted her. Its multiple claws on its tentacles flowed and twitched as its single eye panned left and right, scanning its owner.
“Hey, Eye-Dee Three,” Jidné greeted back.
The droid named ID-3, formerly Imperial property of another probe droid variant, is the only other passenger in the Scarab besides the pilot, Jidné herself. The droid chittered in its raspy, monotonous string of notes as it hovered closer towards its owner.
“Yeah, I’m okay, just… felt like jelly is all,” she brings her hand on the top of the black droid’s flat dome for a head.
The young bounty hunter detached the holster from her belt and set it down on the table, right next to the canister of credits. She stared at both objects for a good long minute, contemplating and pondering her strategy on how she’ll begin with this contract. Jidné reached out for her weapon holster first, taking it with both hands and then unbuttoning the flap—a polished, silver emitter pokes out of the lining.
She gently tilted the holster downward until an enough length of the weapon inside slid out. She caught the shaft before it could completely fall off. She rolled the hilt across her hand, feeling and tracing for the etchings, curves, and dips of the design. She held it high and proud, in the same way as she finished constructing it, the tassel that she knotted around the ring of her pommel caught her eye. Two strands, unequal in length, dangling at the very end of the hilt. The longer strand had seven turquoise beads, at the end of its thread is a cluster of feathers—three to be precise—though the wear and tear was very obvious; the short one had four beads of the same color but lacks a feather.
“Feathers are almost gone,” she hummed, fiddling the remaining tufts.
Her heart skipped a beat—it always does, even though she has done this many times. In her hand, the cold metal of the lightsaber’s sleeve stung the nerves of her palm. A small, somewhat satisfied smile curled along her lips—the weapon had brought her good memories, but also nightmares—and that smile became fleeting like a comet. Her thumb ran across the metal finish of the body and found the switch, the idea of igniting it was seductive—a temptation that she has no strength to fight back.
The snarl of the ignition took her breath away. A vibrant purple blade bore out of the emitter, its glow colored the paleness of her cheeks and reflected against the gloss of her brown irises.
“Jedi, huh?” she muttered to herself.
“Beeee-deee, trill?”
“That’s right, ID, we’re after a Jedi,”
Jidné sighed, and then switched her saber off before tucking it back into the pouch.
When her legs finally regained their strength, she walked to the cockpit and beckoned her droid companion—who still hovered close to her side—and joined her in the seat. As she put herself into work mode, she recalled the very helpful detail that Darth Vader gave. She breathed out a resigned sigh that drowned in the hollow hum of the Scarab’s engine revving up.
In a galaxy that stretched a thousand times more than the eye could see, how is she going to narrow down to finding a single Jedi?
“Say, ID, how likely are we to stumble into a redheaded Jedi on the run?”
“Beee… chirp!”
Jidné chuckled at the response, “I figured as much.”
With little base information she has, she knew she had to be resourceful. Lately, she’s picked up murmurs from Baz’s stronghold—as well as the gossips in the cantinas she frequented in Modala—that bounty hunters were also after a Jedi, solely for the bounty on his head, not because Darth Vader had hired others behind Jidné’s back or the other way around.
While gossip wasn’t exactly the best source material, she had to make do. The young bounty hunter swallowed her pride and entered the coordinates of her first stop.
Upon seeing the coordinates on the computer, ID-3 erratically chittered in protest.
“We have no other choice, buddy. They’re the closest we can get to the target,”
ID-3 lowed in disagreement, submitting to Jidné’s decision and continued assisting her in the ship, much to his chagrin. His owner sensed the disdain and petted its flat dome again.
“Don’t worry, you’ll stay close to me, right?”
“Beeep!”
Jidné smiled and boosted the ship’s throttle, following their course to Ordo Eris.
——————————————————–
Jidné piloted the ship with great care, evading the rock debris and asteroids that floated within the orbit. Her destination was dead ahead: one of the biggest rocks in the field, a needle of the infrastructure built within, a fiery orange glow encircled the central crater’s inner rim.
“I really don’t like this place,” she complained to no one in particular—except herself.
She slowed down the speed of the freighter until she got close enough to the outpost. A red blip flashed on her screen and vanished seconds after spotting it. There was a noticeable gaping crack of the arena’s ray shield wall that protects the outpost from the elements outside the planetoid, the young hunter added that to her list of questions once she lands.
The Scarab docked on the empty arena. It wasn’t entirely new for her see it devoid of animals and sentient creatures fighting for dear life, though it was a better sight than the deafening chorus of wild cheers mingling with animal roars. The Scarab’s landing gears disturbed the floor of the arena, creating clouds of sand around its pads, the exit ramp unfurled for Jidné and ID-3 to alight the ship.
A trio of bounty hunters approached her, there were more standing by the arena’s walls as well. Shortly after, they gave way for their Umbaran boss clad in silken, luxurious violet robes—he stuck out like a sore thumb around the orange light that filled his colosseum. For someone with sallow, prominent cheekbones and paper-white skin, he moved quite flamboyantly—contrast to his sickly appearance—perfectly matching up to the vibrancy of his rich, violet robes.
“We need to talk, Sorc,” the bounty hunter abruptly began, not having time for the dilly-dallying.
“Well, well,” he spoke in a singsong manner. He rubbed his goatee as he swayed. “It’s been way too long, dove. Come, come!”
Jidné didn’t come closer, even though Sorc beckoned her with his fingers covered in rings, so much so that the fingernails were the only ones exposed.
“Oh come on now, little dove, you act like we didn’t have history together!”
The bounty hunter rolled her eyes and shook her head, “Don’t call me that. Plus, that history was basically me being your delivery girl of animals and captives. It’s no big contract, just a sideline.”
“Ah, but you gave me a lot of good stuff for my arena! When you worked for me back in the day, I never ran out of customers—always looking for some mauling, goring, and all that crazy stuff!”
Completely uninterested of Sorc’s rambling about his business of arena fights between humanoids, humans or sentient beings against wild, senseless animals, Jidné cut to the chase.
“I don’t have time for stories, Sorc,”
“Of course, you aren’t. But, you know, intel—”
“Isn’t your expertise,” Jidné finished the sentence, even though that wasn’t exactly what Sorc was going to say. She put her hands over her waist, “But you’re the only one I know who could give me just that. Think of it as a compliment.”
The Umbaran pursed his lips, he opened his palm right in front of her. Fishing two gold chips out of her pocket and then tossing them to the hand, his fingers greedily caged the money into his fist and hurriedly tucked them into his robes.
“Always so hasty,” he rolled his eyes and smacked his lips. “Alright, what do you wanna know?”
“A boy. Redheaded Jedi.”
Sorc Tormo purred a long “Ahh” and wagged his finger at the girl, a mischievous grin stretching ear-to-ear on his pale white face.
“Handsome?”
Jidné’s eyebrows pulled together, creasing her forehead.
“I don’t see how that’s relevant, but okay, I guess?”
A throaty snicker rumbled from the Umbaran, still wagging his finger at the girl in a more teasing manner—it was almost childlike.
The surrounding bounty hunters subtly showed signs of hostility towards Jidné, her eyes already caught their movements with the slightest of side-glances: the ones standing closest to them were tightening their grips around their blasters, the ones who were a little far away but still within earshot had their hands slowly wandering towards their holsters.
She got the hint. Apparently, the Jedi was a prize indeed.
“Now that is an interesting subject—even for you, sweetheart!” Sorc Tormo guffawed, leaning to his knees while keeping his eyes on her.
She pointed at the damage with her thumb over her shoulder, without needing any words to make out the question, Sorc Tormo immediately has the answer.
“Ah!” he clicked his tongue. “We got a little… caught by surprise.”
“One hell of a surprise, if you ask me,”
“Oh honey, you don’t even know the start of it!” he swatted the air with his hand.
“He did that, didn’t he?”
Sorc Tormo’s boisterous guffaw startled the young girl as she awkwardly watched him laugh straight at her face. When he still hasn’t gotten all of the laughter of his system, he’s still chortling as he swings his arm at the air.
“Aww, ya shoulda see the baby go! Slashing away and getting chocked up by my pets and men. Crowd was wild, I had a full box that day!”
“You don’t know where he is, but you’ve seen him,” she insinuated.
Sorc got carried away with the compulsive need to tell it all, a force of habit, from the way she picked up his words, it was clear as the eye-straining color of his gaudy robes—the redheaded Jedi has engaged with the Haxion Brood.
“And you’re after him, too?”
“Hey, it pays the bills, sweetie!” he throws his arms to his sides, solely focusing on the topic of money. “Honestly, I could care less about the kid, but knowing the price on that pretty head of his, you really can’t blame us tryna make honest work, eh?”
“He’s mine!” she snarled, taking two steps towards Sorc.
Immediately, his bounty hunters became defensive of him, stopping her in her path by pointing the barrels of their rifles at her. That didn’t scare her, though, she takes another step close to the point that the holes of the blaster press against her body. She shot a dirty look at the pair of bounty hunters.
“If there’s one thing I hate: it’s competition.” She added.
Sorc chuckled, unintimidated and kept up his lurid façade, he gestured his hand in a circular motion that covered Jidné’s front.
“From what I could read in all this defensiveness, I strongly deduce that you have a contract out to get him.”
“Good job, man, do you want a prize for that?” she sardonically rebutted, keeping up with the Umbaran’s sarcasm with her own flavor.
There was no constructive reply from Sorc, other than another throaty chuckle. The girl’s patience is being stretched thin by the minute, not until she’s satisfied of filling the gaps that Darth Vader left in the job description.
Her sarcasm was quickly replaced with an imposing snarl through the clench of her teeth, “What else do you know?”
“He travels with that little gray grub that owes me a shitton of money!”
“A lot of little grubs owe you a shit-wad of money, Tormo, you’re gonna have to be much more specific.”
The syndicate boss sighed, often forgetting that this little bounty hunter was a persistent one—too persistent for her age rather. He shooed away his bounty hunters from being human barricades between Jidné and himself. They eased up, leaving a gap for Sorc and Jidné to converse with less distractions, but they still kept an eye on the girl—wary of her movements as she’s already starting to be aggressive.
“Alright, alright, fine! Your redhead is with the ship called the Mantis—it’s an S-161, you’ve been a mechanic part-time, right? You should know what that looks like. Now, for the grub that baby boy drives around with—he’s a stubby, little guy. Kinda old, wiry hair, bald on the top.”
“The companion—is he human too?”
“No, that grub is a Lateron. Stout, little thing. Four arms.”
Jidné tossed one last golden chip at Sorc, to which he skillfully caught into his hand; he fluidly slipped it into the inside pocket of his robes, making a soundless clink with the others, as he watched Jidné turn her back at him and walk away.
“Pleasure doing business with you, dove! Don’t be a stranger!”
“I plan to be!” Jidné clapped back before fully disappearing into the ship.
Sorc Tormo watched Jidné prep up the freighter, he even giddily waved goodbye at her to which she repaid with a fed-up rolling of the eye; she ignored him after that, focusing on the dashboard monitors of her ship as she eagerly flies the ship out of the rock. The freighter’s throttle blew at the entire arena—everyone’s capes and coattails flapped and smacked against their legs wildly as Jidné maneuvered the ship to face the gaping crack of the outpost’s wall.
“Are we gunna go after ‘er, boss?” one of the bounty hunters asked.
“Sure. It might be fun to have the baby boy and the baby girl together—they either kill each other or save each other, whatever and whichever works,” Sorc thought out loud, he rubbed his goatee with his ring-covered fingers and a grin stretched across his wrinkled, sallow face. “A ransom… no, a fugitive’s bounty on her head too! Yes, that would be very delicious. Go on now, SHOO!”
All of the bounty hunters dispersed, whooping in glee and greed as they gathered into their crude ships, bringing along the HURID-class droids for added muscle and brawn. Sorc Tormo stood idly in the exact spot he’s been staying in ever since Jidné came until she left, he listened to the barbaric laughter and chatter among his men; that greedy, coy grin never melted in his face—the only thing that ran around his brain was the idea of having sacks upon sacks of credits delivered to his private chambers, rewarded for the joint bounties of the Jedi and Jidné.
