Danny blinked at the small children Ellie was holding the hand of, looking quite proud of herself. The small children- between ten and twelve so somewhere similar to Ellie’s age- who both practically stank of magic and Gods. 

He took a deep breath, pinching the bridge of his nose even as Dan cackled while opening the door more to let them inside. “Alright, what’s your name, kids?”

“B-billy…um, Billy Batson...” “‘m Percy! Percy Jackson.” 

“Nice to meet you two- any idea where in your family you have a god or two, because one of you definitely smells like Zeus and I’m pretty sure Poseidon and I am not dealing with either of my half-brothers.”

Extra: Billy is still hiding the fact that he's actually still a child from the rest of the League. Ellie is roughly his civilian age, so when the League asks to meet her, hijinks ensue as Ellie has to keep up the appearance of being far older than she actually is, both physically and mentally.

Alright here's my semi thought out rambling on the contenders of who could adopt Billy Batson.

Keep in mind, this is not based on the Shazamily Billy, but the homeless kid Billy who spent years running away from his abusive uncle, and then multiple foster homes, and squats in apartments.

BatFam: IMO, they would immulate a foster home too much for Billy's comfort. A large home with multiple bodies, all of them having their own issues and lives that Billy would either feel excluded from or strive to help too much. Likewise, to have all those eyes - especially as the Batfam - watching him and being aware of his every move would be incredibly invasive for him. Billy is an independent kid, but hes not a crime fighter like the batkids, so the others would try to help him in any and every way possible, that would inevitably push Billys boundaries. The family stability is questionable, but the loyalty is definitely something Billy needs. So i think theyd be best as like, the friends home Billy stays at sometimes. Not to mention its Gotham. That city is not for Captain Marvel.

Constantine: lmao. Listen. I love this disaster in a trenchcoat disguised as a wreck of a man, but he should not be in any parental role. Him and Billy work out bc they are around each other in doses. They're complete opposites in methods and morals, and continued exposure would do them both harm. Likewise, when John truly cares for someone he pushes them away bc everyone around him gets hurt. He actively chooses to hurt them sometimes, if theyre not used against him. It doesn't matter that Billy is Captain Marvel and can withstand more than John can throw. John will self destruct and keep Billy away. And that is what would hurt Billy most. Bc he would feel abandoned and unwanted, and that kid has too many issues surrounding that in particular. He needs a stable environment and Constantine can not provide that in the long run - especially in a domestic sense. They're wayyy better off as friends, or magical mentor/mentee.

Superman: The biggest obstacle here is Clark's insistence that Billy remain a child and live a normal life instead of being Captain Marvel. Even if Clark relents to having Billy be Marvel and stay on JL, it would be a continuous struggle for both of them. Not only bc Clark does not know how to be a parent, but also Billy would have a very hard time adjusting. Compared to the other two, I'd say Clark is the most stable, but perhaps not stable enough. Journalism and Superman take up a lot of Clark's time, and he'd really struggle with balancing having Billy too - especially if this is pre-Jon. What's more, unlike Jon, Billy's duties and abilities are different. Despite Superman understanding personal wants vs greater duties, he could not help with Marvel's duties, as much as he'd want to. And I think that would really stress Clark out. Not to mention gaining Billy's trust once its lost is an uphill battle. Cap can work just fine with Superman, but Billy would be a feral kitten - another differing aspect Clark would struggle to grasp. I think there's potential here, esp with help from Lois and Mama Kent, but they're both on such different wave lengths beneath the shallow surface, that they'd struggle with cohabitation and being a 'family' more than one would think.

Wonder Woman: Gonna be honest, I think she's the best candidate for taking Billy in. Not only does she understand Cap's duties from a divine perspective, but she's taken on such monumental tasks. She gave up living on her home island to do her divine warrior duty, but then she found balance in remaking her home life as Diana Prince. She had a loving mother and community that raised her, which she'd draw inspiration from for Billy. There'd be a balance of knowing he's a child that needs protection and he's a chosen champion that needs to learn how to protect others (and himself) - honestly, the same balance Diana's mother had to find for her, which she'd realize with Billy. Itd be a familial connection she has greatly missed since Amazon. And tbh I think Cap and Billy are on the same page with WW - respect and admiration and trust, and that divine tie of being gifted by the Gods (Zeus specifically). Plus being handled without kiddie gloves and respected as a hero would be something Billy greatly appreciates.

I just thought something, Captain Marvel isn’t an inherited title. In the OG comics and still in a lot of later ones it’s specifically a chosen one thing, we know that with Billy, but his entire family is honorary members and titles passed between close friends and family specifically to share the power. Not pass it on.

Billy has 3 potential candidates for succession depending on canons; The original being BillBat from the 30th century, Power of Shazam’s CeCe Beck from the 90th century, and Tanist of the 853rd century in the DC 1,000,000 comics.

Only one is actually related to Billy, and that’s BillBat of earth, his distant descendant. CeCe is from Bindermann and Tanist is from Mercury, both having stumbled into the RoE some how and have no prior relation.

No one in the current Marvel family as they know it is supposed to usurp Billy or replace him, he’s supposed to take the Wizards mantle fully later on in life and wait until his successor is old enough to inherit his power. Billy has to live to see that day, weather it’s 1,000 or 7,000 or 83,000 years into the future, he has to make it to pass the torch to the next being Pure of Heart and Strong of Spirit.

There is no replacing Marvel in the modern day, no keeping his name alive till the next guy needed, Conner has no expected inheritance or standards if he’s taken in as a member of the Marvel family. He can be whatever he wants as long as he’s a good person, he could wear his symbol and call himself Junior or another Lieutenant Marvel but he doesn’t have to.

There has to be a Superman once Clark’s gone, he’s too much of a symbol to fade, he means too much. But in a way Marvel doesn’t, and it’s not something bad or sad in context.

Being Captain Marvel is always shown as a thankless and isolating job, but one that has to be done to keep ancient evils at bay and the balance of Magic in order. That’s why Billy takes the job as Wizard only when Shazam dies, magic needs a warden but he doesn’t want that job right away, when he takes it he chooses Freddy as a champion to be Captain Marvel but they aren’t Shazam, he is. That’s what separates the Wizards champion, which is what Billy is, from the gods champions that his family is.

Conner has no expectation in his family, not because he isn’t good enough or because of a flaw in his upbringing, but because of a highly selective criteria for a job no one really wants.

After Eid yesterday both my older sisters spent the night and so all of today it was the entire family under one roof. And we had a moment tonight that felt how it feels when you want to press a flower in between the pages of a book in attempts to preserve it forever. Something you want to safeguard because of the fondness you have for it and how deeply you treasure it. However, despite the grandness of my words right now the moment itself objectively wasn't all that impressive. Yet, subjectively it was one I will forever cherish.

My sisters and I were all in the kitchen cleaning it. That is all. I was at the sink washing the drying the dishes while my eldest sister wiped down the counters and my other older sister was arguably not even contributing in the slightest (!!!!!) and we had my "my churiyan are clanking" playlist blasting so loudly (a bunch of our favorite bollywood songs we loved since we were children. Classics like Bole Churiydan, Make some noise for the desi boys and Chammak Challo type beat) and we were dancing and singing and of course I had to hit a little provocative shake of my shoulders and movement of my hips that had my ammi wondering where did the sharam of her daughters go.

And I was trying so hard to contain my sappiness to myself but in that moment I wanted to set the dishes and my heart down and hug them and tell them how much I miss them. Growing up, I did not have a strong relationship with my sisters because I was just such a troubled child. It makes me so regretful that I wasted the time I had with my sisters because of my own stubbornness and childish attitude. I would do anything asked of me if it meant I could take us all back to a time we shared the same roof. A second chance at it all in hopes they could forgive me for the hardship I brought onto them as their younger sister. But that's not possible so now I will accept what I am given gratefully. I will take what is poured into my cup and drink every last sip and lick every drop from the glass.

My sisters are my whole world. No one will ever give me their unwavering support and time like them. Billi especially with her unconditional love for me and understanding. I truly am blessed to have my older sisters there for me, for their advice and guidance and company. Sorry guys this was long and sappy but I had to get out somewhere

billy doesn’t even notice anything different when the voices first start. so used to listening to a constant stream of hate and resentment in his head. mean, spiteful words that used to sound like his father, but have morphed into his own voice as the years have gone by. his very own fucked up defence in his fight for survival. always the first person to put himself down. listing all the vile names he’ll end up being called anyway. reminding himself of his place in the world. of what he wants, but can never have.

when another voice is added to the mix, unfamiliar but wrapped around the same vicious words, it takes a while to register that billy’s not alone up there. takes a while to notice the intruder, poking around the cobwebbed corners of his mind, digging for gold. coming up with ten blood-tinted memories for each sun-bleached one. feeding off them. slowly taking over. 

max looks at him, and monster, echoes around his head, you’re the scary thing in her house. harrington locks eyes with him over sundae-stained tables, and the voice soars. shrills out a laugh that splits billy’s head in two, awful in its truth. oh, it says, this is golden. you think he’ll ever want you?

late at night, his father’s breathing taking up all the air in the room, the house, the entire world, billy lifts his mattress to take out the pouch hidden underneath. a couple more weeks, a few more swimming lessons. just a handful of dollars more and he’s out of this place. his hands are shaking. he’s not alone. at that moment, he knows. he’s never getting out.

no, the voice tells him, you’ve already lost. what fun we’ll have now.

I'm rewatching because of reasons and Lucas and Max are having the 'you miss it? The ocean? The waves? California? Hawkins must be lame in comparison' and oh god, the way Billy could have exactly the same conversation with Eddie while sharing a joint and use almost the exact same speech: 'no it's not that, it's just... My friends are still there. The thing is Neil found Susan, and decided that we all needed a fresh start, as if Cali was the problem with the whole happy family thing, which is total bullshit. So now I'm stuck here babysitting Maxine, who hates my guts. Neil has always been an asshole, but now he flips his shit the moment I step out of the line'
