i made the silt verses season one into cds and a cd book!!!
i used the official art for the discs and created an original design for each episode for each cd folder!!! the fabric is canvas i dyed with natural dyes. i embroidered parts of the logo onto the fabric.
i'm very happy with how this project came out, and grateful that i was given the skills and resources to make this project i've wanted to create for a long time about this show that i love so much
let me know if you have any questions about my process!!!!!!!
My mom's birthday is in the middle of summer, and she's mentioned wanting a copy of the Chronicles of Narnia to read to my nephew. I've been interested in fore edge painting lately, and I've always loved gilded edges on books, so I've been doing some research on those--I haven't done either before. Because my usual policy is that I don't buy paper copies of books unless I'm prepared to read them more than once, and even then I try to get hardcovers--I have very few books I'm willing to risk with experimentation. I may need to go to the thrift store just for some test books.
I do have this copy of Joy of Cooking that now has an unplanned landscape edge painting, just to see how much bleedthrough I get with watercolors. (Answer: almost none!) I have some other stuff I need to do first, but I'm hoping that later I'll be able to do some tests with the shockingly large stash of heat-transfer metallic foil I squirreled away to use in metallic toner-transfer prints. IDK how well this will work, but...wheee! Project materials!
If this works well I'm definitely doing at least foil edges and possibly edge paintings on my Murderbot and Discworld collections.
I need to find a fabric I like to make into bookcloth. I'm trying to work as much as I can with stuff I already have, so I need to go through my fabric stash and see what I have. I know I have an entire hide of white leather, but I'm not sure I want to use that. I do know I want to design and gold foil on the cover and spine designs.
Luckily I have months and months to figure this out. If it works out and I ever get around to finishing the secret doordrobe, I'm going to make a second one for myself.
It's fanfiction writer appreciation day! This year I made a copy of when the sun goes out for @travelingneuritis. It's a modern-with-magic MDZS AU where Wei Wuxian uses technology to work with resentful energy. You should all go out and read it immediately. I really love how it hits all the important character beats, but doesn't rehash the plot. Plus, there's day-to-day cultivator work that we don't get very much of in canon, and wwx's affinity for the dead, in both the "help them move on" sense and the "go fuck them up for me" sense. (Both of these are heartbreaking, of course)
And the art! I've been wanting to bind this for ages, but I had to wait until I got a color printer to do this justice.
Lots of rambling under the cut!
It is somewhere around 550 pages long, which is apparently the exact max that my guillotine will take, so that was lucky. I tried an oxford hollow for the first time, and I love it! The text block feels so secure in the case.
The red on yellow design for the cover is supposed to look like the donghua talisman design - I'd hoped to make something that looked more like a talisman with circuit board imagery, but graphic design is not in fact my passion, so I just went with clipart.
I even learned how to turn a image into a font for the scene dividers! This is the circuit diagram symbol for a battery, because batteries are an important plot point and I'm a nerd.
And there are juniors! I love them so much.
Anyway, thank you @travelingneuritis ! I appreciate your contributions to fandom and had a lot of fun making this!
I am so excited to announce that my full-length poetry book "The Weeds Grow Anyway" is available for preorder. This first edition handmade Iimited run is going to feature a linocut printed soft cover and I will be binding the books at home.
A blurb about the book, by Mallory Everhart:
Nico Wilkinson's debut full-length poetry collection "The Weeds Grow Anyway' is a celebration of that which lies beyond resilience in the face of adversity: audacity. Writing from Colorado Springs amidst a time of anti-trans violence, they examine the relationship of trans people to this world through the lens of nature's relationship to humans. What makes a plant into a weed, something deemed unacceptable to the landscape? The poetry within much like the local flora and trans people who live there is rooted in the experience of queering the inhospitable landscape that is Colorado Springs.
About the book's creation:
Last year I made one hardcover copy of The Weeds Grow Anyway (pictured above) to visualize the manuscript I'd been working on as a real tangible book. In doing so, I remembered just how much lenjoy the bookmaking process. I realized it would be a joy to make these books myself.
I will share the book-making process as I go on my social media, mostly Instagram (and possibly YouTube, coming soon). If you are a poet who would like to learn how to create their own books, follow along and show you how.
This book is made possible by community. By the people I create alongside, the people who support my work, who connect with me about the experiences we have living in this world. It is such a gift to finally be able to share these words with my community, including poems that have been known and loved, and many, many poems that have never been seen before. I can't wait for you to read them.
The photos of the first hardcover handmade book above are by my friend Corri Mercy.

working on another mini A7 comic. I was thinking I might introduce a 'book club' patreon tier (maybe like £6) where you get sent a new mini story each month? like a physical book.
I really really like rhythm games but my carpal tunnel usually prevents me from doing any good at them so getting beatsaber has been like yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes AHAHAHAAA (smacks into the wall with headset on)
